Pray for Matthew Gray Gubler.
I would say that there is nothing wrong with him but with the amount of bleach I'd wash my mouth out with if I was him he's probably gonna have problems.
Tumblr media
Poor boy. He didn't sign up for making out a pile of shit.

I’ve been wondering, how do you think that First died? Do you think it was natural causes (i.e. old age or sickness)? Or maybe died while fighting a monster? Or something else?
Oh, I always was a great fan of the whole 'First was absorbed/hosted by Nomicon' theory aka First didn't die die, but his mortal body and soul became a founding/essential part of Nomicon and he joined with it, sorta like what we see happen to Plop Plop, but more epic!
Tumblr media
Many people seem to believe that First's spirit being in Nomicon happened because Randy changed the future (at least according to wikias it seem to be a leading theory for many), and that before Randy intervened, First just wiped his memory like it was implied/used as demonstration in Ninja Identity/Supremacy and just continued his life without his memory as a Ninja, but that kinda doesn't make sense to me at all???
First was born into Ninja Clan, his Clan created the mask, heck his Clan (seemed to have) founded Norrisville all the way away from Japan and on Americas continent! - did he just wipe his whole life and stumbled around confused how people knew him??
Tumblr media
Amnesiac/Mind wiped First is an interesting thought (damn, it actually would make such a cool angsty AU lol) but its personally not my favorite headcanon for First.
Though of course we can argue that First did get mind wiped but it doesn't stick. So there would be a copy of First's memories in Ninjanomicon and First with his memories but like...without his mask and title? Which also doesnt' make much sense to me?? Does he just.... continues on without his mask but still fighting? (Likely - but also ??? why not just continue it in the mask??) Does he just grows older and watches as the new ninja bounces around? (Less likely - So in that case what's the point of giving NinjaNomicon to Messenger if he is still around???) It seems to me as a sad sort of end to his legacy.
Tumblr media
(Would make a banger sad and angsty Retired!AU too tho lol)
I feel like First is too passionate/determined to end that sort of way. So to me it would make much more sense that he would try to keep fighting/protecting in any way possible and leaving his spirit behind would be one of the most sure ways. Also makes sense to me that to create NinjaNomicon a sort of 'sacrifice' was needed, and since First is the, well, First - he is the building block upon which the Ninjanomicon started to grow and "live". (and yes i am completely ignoring the whole time paradox with Nomicon because I love it as a funy haha episode joke but absolutely hate it for lore and it gives me a headache xD).
So, my personal headcanon is that after defeating/capturing the Sorcerer, First spent at least a decade meticulously writing down his Clan's history and all the knowledge they ever possesed (and basically pouring his soul into Nomicon thru writing ;) ), settling his affairs and making insurances/plans/backups and etc. all the while also still keeping Norrisville safe, before he finally handed over the Nomicon to the Messenger, stepped into it for one last Ultimate Lesson and just went poof. And no one ever saw him again.

OPLA is the #1 show in 84 countries right now. I havnt been this happy about One Piece in a long time. Its just so nice that a show you love is getting some deserved attention.
I see a lot of posts where the writer is like "I couldnt get past rhe first episode." And or "This movie is trash"
And people are intitled to their opinions. But what saddens me is that sometimes I feel like its force hate. Like they hate that they like something from something they orginally didn't like. I get it its scarry to like other things or new things. I was like that when I was younger too. I refused to watch anything else other than Sailor Moon. I didnt care to try anything else and 'hated' anything else for a long time. I was afrid to think something else was good because I didnt want to let go. Than finally I gave other things a shot. And if anyone else feels that way, I hope that you will grow too. Stay up one night and watch something random. It doesnt have to be popular. Thats what I did.
Anyway. I've seen also posts of fans who were not OP fans and even people who dont like anime watch this series and are enjoying it. It amazes me that one series that started off I feel like low on the potum toll grew to such massive lengths and did such an onpact on the world. When I first started to like OP no one knew of it or liked it. I was the only one buying the DVDs that anytime a new one came out the girl at FYE put it aside and waited for ne to ask if I was buying it. LOL that was back when Funi first got the rights to it. Like seriously though other than a couple online friends I was the only one in my home town group of friends that watched it and enjoyed it. Now my 11 year old Nephew is watching it! How times have changed haha.
So I happy One Piece Live Action is the first lice action to be good. Like if it was any anime to break that its One Piece. Haha

duuuude finding a fellow conan dub appreciator in the year 2022 🙏 the english dub is criminally underrated imo-- it was clearly localized with love and the VAs gave a lot of unique personality to their roles. (Viktorin + Jewell do a killer job as Conan and the use of the Shinichi voice for the internal monologues is so. good.) (also I finally have the info I need to determine if my SAVE copies are bootlegs like i've always suspected so thanks!)
I've found that there are actually quite a few FUNimation dub appreciators still around!
But yes!!! Totally agree. FuNi's English dub is genuinely my favorite way to watch DetCo, and it's so nice to see it get recognition for what it did well. I mean no disrespect to the new Bang Zoom! dub; my most popular post on this site is celebrating a Bang Zoom! dub, after all (unfortunately not captioned, though I did put together a sub/dub breakdown here). It's exciting that Conan is getting official English-dubbed releases after years of nothing, and there are some real skilled, experienced folks in the cast and staff.
And admittedly, I've only seen Bang Zoom!'s rendition of Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small despite having every DetCo Blu-ray that Discotek's released sitting on the shelf in front of me right now, but I can't help but feel that in trying to correct the inaccuracies of the FuNi dub, they've lost a lot of the charm. Conan thinking in Shinichi's voice isn't faithful to the original Japanese performances, true, but it's a perfectly fair way of adapting the manga and a choice that resonates so much more with me. Why would you think in a voice that you don't consider your own? Conan thinking in Conan's voice strikes me as contradictory to the character, in all honesty. It was such a disappointment to me that the Bang Zoom! dub didn't continue this practice.
The Bang Zoom! script itself often comes off to me as stilted, too; one of the biggest strengths of FUNimation's dub, in my opinion, is how natural it could sound. But part of that is due to the loosey-goosiness of its translation. It takes a lot of creative liberties—definitely too many at times!—but for the most part, I think it's absolutely excellent at making the dialogue really work in English. The Bang Zoom! production sells itself as a more accurate Detective Conan, and I sincerely do respect that, and I love that it uses the original names, but I also feel that in striving so much for accuracy, it loses the naturalness that FuNi's dub absolutely shone in.
Of course, a quick glance tells me that other Bang Zoom! Conan projects have different ADR directors and script writers, so maybe the films still wrapped in plastic on my shelf have a different feel to them than Episode One. But gosh, while I initially watched Detective Conan in Japanese with subtitles because I was turned off by the name changes of the FuNi dub, actually experiencing it all these years later told me that you can still have a fantastic dub, even if it's not 100% faithful.
Sorry to ramble! I'm super passionate about dubs and subtitles and that sort of thing. Happy that my S.A.V.E. bootleg post was helpful! Still can't believe that Case Closed of all things got so bootlegged, though I must say: for anyone interested in collecting the old FuNi dub on disc, I can't recommend the original art box releases enough. Sure, they're not as nice and compact as the seasonal sets, but you get more extras (dub bloopers!) and the occasional English dub subtitles and video options. I really regret not getting them initially!

tv show watching  each  decade
so generally  everyone knows, form  1950 to 1960, there was  no  video machine, but  people   would tape the  show on tv with a  home made movie projector recorder,  for  later play back on  their home movie projector,.,. the main item to consider was that it  had ot  be a show worthy of being funy, liek the  Jack Beeny show, or the Late Show, with johnny   Carson, which was still popular even in Britian and austrlia
tv shows in 1980,
now that we had the  Vidoe recorder,  we could watch any show at all, whenever, we just recorded it for later playbac,, usally popular american shows, that are aired, lets say september to march ,. in australai they are reversed til 2010, when digital tv and onlien streaming madei it instantanious,, but we in 1980, 1990, even til 2010, had to wait  for the march to november time line ot  what a show that was aired in america  even in september the  year before
tv show watching with tumblr, well, what can one say, watching a 20  second  grab is far easier on a person who  has watched 50 years of TV, , one can feel the tension in peopels  expressions,  and one doesnt  need to  sit through  3 hours of a 12 episode  tv show  or movie, when its  20  seconds  moments online,
tumblr is the place to even see, 1960  parents  childresns reactions who are now parents, of  children who  react as 30 year olds, to old shows, ,. to  reatiosn of  generational reactions , is liek an online change,
its an  education of familiar themes, yet, we all get  educated in tumblr

ive never had the time or energy to fully get to watch princess sapphire... but ive been curious about it for a while now. what is it about it that you particularly enjoy? and what would you say about it to someone whos trying to get into it? have you read the manga, or is the anime the best way to experience it?
There's not too much on The Princess Knight unless you're fluent in Japanese and can access original episodes and manga pages somehow
I first got interested in The Princess Knight since I heard she was technically the prototype for the magical girl genre (which I've sunken myself into recently) and because she has the same creator as Astro Boy (love his art style in general, mwahh!) then when I researched bits and pieces about her story and watched what was available of the Princess Knight sub (do NOT watch the dub, the voice acting is awful)
I noticed that though it's never been fully confirmed by Tezuka or anyone who worked one it, I think Princess Sapphire was supposed to be genderfluid, since even when she received her "girl heart" she REFUSED to give her "boy heart" to Tink and started exploring her femininity while keeping her masculinity as the series went on (at least according to the manga lol)
So all in all, an awesome main character with a awesome story, aesthetics/vibes, designs and just an amazing artist and storyteller behind this lovely series who had Sapphire go through a lot of character development and its lovely to se (or hear about in my case)
Plus the villians esp Nylon were a blast to watch since they were both funny af (and Nylon has a funy and adorable design)!
Thank you soso much for asking me about this, this was so much fun to talk about, hope to see more asks like this again soon!!

unrelated to sweatshirt chaos but i just learned that crunchyroll is getting rid of its free ad-based anime streaming, starting with the new spring season of anime. so basically you can’t watch any of the NEW anime as it’s airing, unless you pay for it.
i think this fucking sucks. CR controls well over half of the western anime market and removing free streaming for current season anime is like??????? why???? why would you think this is a good idea?
like how are they going to handle the massive drop in viewers lol i can’t see them doing too well in that dept unless they, like, increase the amount of free passes that subscribers can hand out? or something? i don’t know?
and this comes right after sentai removed its whole catalogue from CR, and they added all of funi’s, so like....where do i go to legally watch new shows, now? when every streaming services either bogs down its site with ads, or has a horrifically awful user interface, or is entirely paywalled...
i don’t watch enough anime anymore to consider paying for a subscription to multiple services! i guess i’ll just watch whatever episodes i can and Buy the whole dvd sets for shows i Know i want to get (ones based on manga/ln i’ve already read) when they get released u.u

I just watched Wonder Egg episode 11 - raw because Funi’s behind but I’m a WEPcord mod so I want to be in the loop more than I would for any other show. This would be a good episode of another show, certainly a solid exposition dump with pretty decent visuals considering the production issues and based on reading some translations and whatnot in WEPcord’s spoiler channel I do think the info seems neat. But fuckin, I still hate how much of a plot this wants to have - and the fact that girls’ suicides are being attributed to an immortal AI girl made a decade ago by two middle aged men, like that’s stupid. This show’s plot is clashing so hard with its themes and I just hate that. Oh well. Will watch subbed later, possibly not even today.

First Impression: The Heike Story
Tumblr media
The setting is medieval Japan in an era where a loose word against the local lord can cost you your life—or that of your family member, as young Biwa learns tragically in the opening moments of this episode. The child has heterochromia, a fairly common visual trope in anime, but this particular case of the condition of mismatched eye colors is not purely aesthetic, and Biwa’s struggles with her eye are far more deadly than the anxiety that Ai suffered in Wonder Egg Priority. No, when Biwa covers her naturally-colored brown eye, her pale blue right eye is filled with visions of the future, and it seems that all she ever sees is death. After wandering for an undisclosed amount of time disguised as a boy minstrel, the self-named Biwa (a name chosen after the instrument she plays) encounters a lord, Shigemori, who also possesses a special eye, though his powers of sight are weaker than hers and his eye coloring less pronounced. He is determined to win Biwa’s trust because she has seen the destruction of his clan, the Heike, and he is hoping to persuade her to help him avert their disastrous future which, although he has not seen with his own sight, he has been able to anticipate according to the unavoidable fact that all tyrants fall and his clan are becoming tyrannical. They were responsible, after all, for killing Biwa’s father. And so begins a tale of found family and family feud; of politicking and intrigue, poetry and coming of age; of special abilities and the limits of power; and potentially of the healing of one little girl’s heart.
Tumblr media
Shigemori, Biwa and her, um, biwa. And the two maids who have to deal with her fleas and ill manners. Ora ora!
I have so much to say about this premiere episode and all of it is very, very good. Let’s begin with the most striking feature of this episode: the cinematography. It’s not very often that cinematography stands out so startlingly in anime, but it does here, rendering what otherwise might be a throwaway opening shot of a butterfly into a poem on the profundity of stillness. Naoko Yamada (K-On, A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird) has long since been recognized for bringing a uniquely cinematographic quality to her directorial work. Indeed, she aspired to be a filmmaker before joining KyoAni as an inbetweener and sky-rocketing up the ranks to become one of, if not the, youngest female director in the industry. If you appreciate the details of camera angle, framing, deep focus, delicate character acting, lighting, and other features of filmmaking, you will enjoy this series.
Tumblr media
Framing, shifting focus, and the juxtaposition of narcissus in bloom and the late snowfall are just some of the details that make this such a cinematic and poetic work.
The story itself is based on the Japanese medieval epic, Heike Monogatari, the tale of bloody conflict between the Taira and Minamoto clans during the Genpei War of 1180-85 that was translated recently into modern Japanese by Hideo Furukawa. The story has served as inspiration for many forms of cultural expression in Japan for centuries, including woodblock prints. I mention these because the art style of the anime strongly recalls the woodblock prints or ukiyo-e of the 17th-mid-19th centuries, the most famous of which (for a Western audience) would be Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The colors are rich but with minimal shading, yet with a textured finish reminiscent of ink on thick vellum or watercolor paper that softens the  shadowless kagenashi technique. The linework is clear and light, and the character designs a sort of modernized take on the stylized figures of the woodblock prints of the Edo period. Kensuke Ushio’s musical score likewise combines modern rock elements with the traditional sounds of the biwa and shamisen in an unexpected yet evocative way.
Tumblr media
Aoi Yuuki works her usual magic with Biwa, managing to inject an already expressive, independent little girl with an extra helping of gumption and winsome grumpiness. This first episode has done a great deal to set up a range of distinct personalities and relationships that are going to be both hilarious and heart-warming to watch play out.
Tumblr media
This has been my most most anticipated series of the season, and possibly the year (despite the Cold War level top secrecy about the project! Nary a whisper of its existence until just a couple of weeks ago!), and it looks set not to disappoint. Yamada and Ushio are my anime power team, my OTP of anime creators, and it’s wonderful to see them working together again, and alongside veteran collaborator Reiko Yoshida (who has written all the good things), no less. I am a little concerned that the dynamic trio have shifted studios from KyoAni to Science SARU, but the latter has done some beautiful work in the past (Ping Pong the Animation, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, Ride Your Wave) so my hopes remain high that The Heike Story will become a favorite for years to come.
Tumblr media
Also looking forward to this dude (not Shigemori) getting his comeuppance!
=====
The Heike Story can be streamed on Funimation. Oh, and did I mention that we’re getting it an entire season before Japan?!? Well, we are. Thanks, Funi!

Fruits Basket 53 (s3 ep 3) | Wave, Listen to Me! 3 | God of High School 7 | Kemono Jihen 8 - 12 (FINAL) | Visual Prison 1 | Mieruko-chan 1
Fruits Basket 53 (s3 ep 3)
You only want what you can’t have in a lot of cases…whether that be something from the past you can only live through once, like this…
Wave, Listen to Me! 3
Now that I’m in a server where one of my fellow admins is a trans gay dude…I wonder if it’s okay to enjoy gay people being the butt of a joke like this (quite literally, in one sense)?
INGRY MONGRY.
…what are the turtles for(?) Update: Oh, the turtles are Mizuho’s.
I think Minare thanks Jupiter because of the Maroon 5 song, Drops of Jupiter…I feel like that’s the only way to explain it, even though the chart rankings on Wikipedia say the song never charted in Japan.
God of High School 7
*38-year-old high schooler* - LOL, wut?
LOL, the swearing finally hit its limit on Crunchyroll, eh?
I seem to remember people who read the source text said the pacing was too fast, but I don’t feel that, as an anime-only watcher. Then again, they increased the focus on the fights, so I’m not complaining.
LOL, Sixsung. The only Korean word I know well is “chaebol”, so I think it’s used here. (<- did not use volume)
Kemono Jihen 8
“Inugami” is written as “hidden god”. Hmm.
Nobimaru, you asshole!
Kemono Jihen 9
LOL, Kabane’s on the floor.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww…an eight year old and…how old is Kabane again? 15 at best? Please tell me you’re joking…
Kemono Jihen 10
(no notes, sorry!)
Kemono Jihen 11
(no notes, sorry!)
Kemono Jihen 12 (FINAL)
Get some clothes, Kabane! More than Shiki’s jacket!
LOL, Kabane is such a derp!
Okay, that was really fun, albeit not quite finished. Also still barfing at how Aya seems to be in love with Kabane…See you next time while I recover...
Visual Prison 1
Checking this out because I am 7 episodes from approaching the (self-imposed) threshold on my spreadsheet – that is, I had over 100 eps accrued on that thing and, once I finish those 7 I’ll have exactly 100 old episodes, so I can move on to checking out the new anime.
Of all the things in the world this anime needed, why did it have to be a panda cat? *raises eyebrow*
I like a concert-like experience, but I swear it’s the same yells on loop! Gah!
These twins(?) remind me of the Beppus (Boueibu s2).
There’s a member of the Discord server who likes Iori of Paradox Live, so I am reminded of Iori when I see this Saga guy *sweatdrops*. (Note: I am currently an admin of a Discord server for Hypnosis Mic. This was one of the reasons I fell behind on my simulcasts – the conversations there would happen for most hours of the day and always sucked up anime-watching time.)
Waiwaiwaiwaitttttttttttt…microphone swords???? That’s something not even Hypnosis Mic does and you know how much I love that series! You have my attention!
What’s with the “Bro”??? Honestly, there’s not much to comment on if it’s just music video after music video…
*vampire gets bitten into, he screams in ecstasy* Uhhhhhhhh…there is clearly a sexual metaphor here, but I will refrain from commenting on it…
When it says “thank you”, Ange specifically seems to be saying “thank you for helping me” in the Japanese. However, it seems to be readily apparent from the previous text he is saying this, too, hence the simplification. (Also, it’s possible I misheard him. I suck at listening to Japanese these days.)
Hah…that was…interesting, to say the least. It’s threadbare in plot, hard to comment on, but a fun viewing experience, if campy.
Mieruko-chan 1
To be honest, I wasn’t planning on watching this one - I heard about the fanservice when reading others’ first episode impressions. However, I kept hearing about it from someone in the Discord server and so it got to the point where I checked it out anyway.
Question for all the writers out there: is in medias res always a good place to start? (<- might write a blog post about this)
*cringe* What’s with Hana’s boob shots?
*cringes again at the panty shot*
*gives sus eyes to the butt shot*
Funi translated “uneasy”, but they didn’t translate one of the other calligraphy on the walls, which is 虚構 (kyokou), or “fictitious”. A different one says “hope” (kibou) and ye another says “despair” (zetsubou).
I think the moment where Miko is proven to be haunted is a masterclass in how to scare people – I mean, the build-up (establishing Hana wasn’t there with the camera angle and the photo appearing many times until you could see a different face) was slow but steady.
I knew this was a horror-comedy going into it and I knew the entire premise, but…seeing it in execution now is…kinda disappointing. Miko has the ignorance down to a T.
*cringes again at butt shot* The fact most of my reactions here are cringes…is a bad sign, really.
*sighs at unnecessary underwear line/camel toe*
The bag actually said “Kanata no Shio” (Faraway Salt/Salt Over There)…it’s probably a Japanese brand I’m not familiar with. Update: Checked it and it seems to be a brand unique to this anime.
“Gangle”, LOL.
Welp, it’s a horror-comedy that executes on the horror, but not on the comedy much. It’s a shame too, because it’s just in time for Halloween.

i love all the English vas though??? two specific parts that always stand out to me are coby's "whyd you hit me" and luffys "whats going on?" after he ate his devil fruit idk why but theres something so charming about how those are said you know??? i def stopped watching the english dub and switched to the og audio before robin came like i swear to god ive never heard her voice before (in either 4kids or funi) - and by extension the rest of the crew. ive heard clips of the 'i want to live' scene and bro... her scream was heartbreaking.
i love namis voice too!! it keeps making me laugh and her mental breakdown made me cry. im a crybaby anyway but god the voice acting is so good. both sets of vas are so so so talented!!! i listen to the 4kids and odex dubs too!! And those had good casts! the 4kids dub suffered from bad direction but ulimately it was lack of talent that did it in. i saw the odex dub on asian channels and. theyre good vas but i didnt feel like... they fit their characters you know?? like they shouldve been swapped with others or maybe its just. fucking weird to me to hear luffy being voiced by a guy - more clowny than child-like but in comparison to 4kids it had a more accurate script.
but even if it had a better script the poor production quality and bizzare casting and direction dragged it down, and ngl i LIKED the 4kids dubs. theyre funny and i liked the jokes which is why i probs have old man humor now. i remember seeing some of the episodes for rent here and there but 4kids was like. On Tv so i didnt watch odex if i had access to cable the 4kids dub Carried u know. iconique
