After a mission while Shepard was taking off his armor he was humming to himself. Tali recognized it as a song from Fleet & Flotilla but didn't say anything.

Jack however, recognized the song and gave Shepard shit for it the rest of the time she was on the ship.

Shepard tried to spin it on Jack ("how do you recognize it?") but it didn't work on her because Jack has no shame.

So when they were in Anderson's apartment on the Citadel, Tali started playing the Fleet & Flotilla soundtrack over the speakers and laughed as Shepard started turning red.

WIP Wednesday

thank you for tagging me @korblez I can’t tell you how long this post-Archangel mission scene has been living in my brain rent free. Scene word count: 884

~~ “Don’t give me that bullshit Cassandra! You always have a choice!” Jason raised his voice even louder at her. Before anyone could move to intervene, Cassandra moved her hand to erect a barrier around and between her and her brother.

“If you want we can go and drop you off on the citadel after I recruit the salarian scientist but don’t you dare sit there and judge me when you are the one who has been playing dead for the last decade and a half; you have no idea what I’ve been through because I thought you were dead.”

Elysium. Akuze. Hell, everything that had happened since she enlisted was because she thought he died with their parents. What was everything supposed to mean if not that she should live out their dream for him?

"Commander Shepard," Another soldier's voice brought the former commander out of her thoughts, away from the ghost in front of her. She looked over her brother's shoulder to the Alliance personnel behind him. Did he set her up? The Alliance was supposed to know she was working for the council right now. This was definitely not what she needed right now. She lowered the Barrier around her brother to strengthen the one between herself and him. Regardless of what they said, she wasn't going to go with them quietly.  Not with the entire Galaxy counting on her to stop the Collectors. "The Alliance-"

"Lost its authority over Shepard when they put her name forward for the Spectres. Your Committee was made aware of this," Nihlus interrupted the soldier, placing a firm hand on the former commander's shoulder from behind. Cassandra kept silent, clenching her hands into fists.

Once again, Nihlus had to save her, it was just another time and place.

Still, she would be lying if she said she wasn’t grateful for Nihlus’ intervention, even if it was a little unexpected. She doubted that the Alliance was just going to let her go with him however. So long as she didn't actively fight either of there was nothing either of them could say against her that would hold up, or at least that was the hope. She had already cost Alliance lives doing her duty as a Spectre to save the council. She doubted she would be granted as much understanding to save her own skin however.

“Stay calm and play along. Power down your biotics; I won’t let them take you.”   Nihlus’ voice played through a transceiver piece in her ear. She looked at the turian standing behind her as he glared at the Alliance soldiers in front of them. She sincerely hoped that they couldn't hear it from the few feet in front of her that they were.

Her heart leapt into her throat and her shoulders slumped. Time seemed to start to slow down around her again as she struggled to calm down enough to hide her biotics.

Damn it.

“Cassandra Shepard.” Nihlus’ hand firmly gripped her wrist and moved it behind her. The familiar sound of a set of omni-cuffs stood out to her ear as he grabbed her other wrist. She pulled her arm back to pretend to resist him, only to realize her wrists were already locked together. “By Spectre Authority I’m taking you back to the Citadel for your connection to Cerberus. Your spectre status has been revoked. Your biotics won’t work against these.”

Cassandra continued to pretend to struggle against his grip, feigning a glare at the turian. She muttered a few curses under her breath at the Alliance soldiers, glaring daggers at her brother. The humans looked at one another before silently walking away from the former commander, but had they really bought the act? “I apologize if I hurt you, I needed [the Alliance] to believe I wasn’t going easy on you.” Nihlus undid the omni-cuffs once the soldiers had gotten far enough away that it was clear they werent coming back. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, a little roughed up but-”

“Not what I was asking, Shepard.”

“I appreciate the concern, but you really don’t need to worry about me.”

“I find that hard to believe considering everything that’s happened.”

“Shit happens. My ability to adapt part of why you thought I deserved to join the Spectres.”

“Show me another Spectre that’s been through what you have, Shepard.” Nihlus had hesitated before he spoke. “You can’t keep bottling it up like this, especially- eventually it’s going to catch up to you and boil over, what then?”

Cassandra could tell that he was going to bring up what Project Lazarus had done to her biotics before he caught himself. Another thing she didn't need to be reminded of. 

“You seemed prepared for if they showed up to cause trouble.” She quickly tried to change the subject

"The Alliance has reportedly been causing trouble for the Council since First Contact.” He continued. “It was anticipated that they'd have trouble cooperating if one of their soldiers ever became a Spectre and then went rogue."

"I guess that's at least part of the reason the Council sent you with me." Cassandra was almost certain that at least another part of the reason was because the Council didn't completely trust her, which she really couldn't blame them for considering her circumstances.

One of the things that April is an awareness month for is community college. So, have some fanfic with student//teacher characters or a school setting.

Mahogany (AO3) - "Shepard and squaddies are students at the elite Galactic Training Academy. (Think Starfleet meets Hogwarts. In space.) Reapers have been dead for hundreds of years, but there are still plenty of baddies out in the galaxy. Shepard-in-training rises to the occasion, with the aid of her squad and a certain snarky flight student. Currently Rated M for language and mature situations."

The Night Will Come but Not to Stay (AO3) - "Jazz is excited about going to Gotham University for college. It's halfway across the country from Amity Park and anyone who knows about her weird family or ghost nonsense. Finally, she can pretend to be a normal woman who just wants to go into psychiatry. She meets a cute guy named Jason, and they seem to be getting along great."

Form 23-C: Application for a New Roommate (AO3) - "After battling ninjas, aliens, madmen, mafiosos, other heroes and death itself, Jason was about to face his most unknown foe yet: a normal life. It's fine. He'd always dreamed of going to college and for once reality sort of lived up to expectations. He loves the classes, he can handle the workload and his cases too. His roommate is a total douche, but whatever. Jason's fine, he's got this. Then he meets his roommate's brother. Jason totally doesn't have this."

Holy Romantic Overtures, Batman! (AO3) - "After the heist of a lifetime, henchman!Jason decides to go legit and enrolls in college. The last person he expected to see there was Robin, and he certainly didn’t expect to fall for him either. But somehow it all works out. Maybe it’s all the labels?"

campus cryptid vs. future valedictorian (AO3) - "Mara Glass did not care about "weird hot guy," the supposed "campus cryptid." She had heard of him her first couple years and had him pointed out to her by a classmate once, but what was there to notice? Okay, he was probably thirty, a nontraditional student, so what? There were a number of those around. Apparently he was hot--well congrats to people who were into people, they could keep him. And if you asked Mara, from her extremely objective perspective, those Disney-green eyes were doing a lot of heavy lifting. There was nothing particularly noteworthy about a thirty-something guy who didn't talk about himself to twenty-year-old classmates. He probably had, like, a real life. There were rumors he was married, although Brittany noted that the only reason people thought that was because one time someone heard him finish a phone call with, "You light the candles, I'll bring dinner. I love you." None of that was remotely interesting to Mara. He sounded like a normal person, and she wished people would shut up about him. Then in third year, she had a history class with weird hot guy."

Bonus: Scholastic Nightmare (AO3) - "Nara Sayuri, a religious studies major from a traditional household, would be hard pressed to come up with a worse nightmare. It was her first time presenting a paper at a conference and apparently her paper was so wrong that one of her ancestors - a deified ancestor, the Shikabane-hime herself - came down from the heavens specifically to point out how off base Sayuri was."

Red must save her loving owners from freezing to death.

Jason and Y/N helplessly bang at the large double doors. They were trapped inside a freezer thanks to Joker. Their gear was not with them. Jason was wearing his shirt, his boots and jeans with his jacket. While his wife was wearing her H/N uniform.

"somebody help us!!" she shivered her throat shaking.

Just as they think their hope is gone.. They hear a faint bark, was it really her? "did you hear that?"

They hear it becoming louder "Red?!" Jason shouted.

She barked louder by the door. She looked for anything that could get them out or a command. She then whined unable to get to them.

"it's OK girl keep working at it!" Jason encouraged "the handle Red try the handle girl"

She moved to her hind legs trying to move the door handle down but the chains were preventing her to. She runs off knowing exactly who to get. Jason wrapped his arms around his wife tightly so they could stay warm. Their breaths were cold as were their body's. Jason takes his jacket off for her. He was a gentleman.

"n-nnno!" she pleaded shaking her head..

He wouldn't listen. He takes his jacket off putting it on his wife. He grabs her collar pulling her to him and holds her. He moved to the ground, sitting on the floor. He kisses Y/N cold and brittle lips that he still loves. He felt defeated. He couldn't get them out. Would they freeze to death in hear?

"I love you so much" she said scared they weren't going to make it out.

"don't.. Don't" Jason shakes his head and kisses her head "don't say it like that"

"it's so-so cold" she shivered

He held her tighter his heart beating fast "I know.. Just.. Don't close your eyes"

Batman was in the Bat-cave typing in his report. He was completely unaware of the fact that his loved ones were trapped and as fast as a heart beat they were slipping right through his hands. Red runs in instantly gaining her mates attention Ace. The two dogs run to each other while Bruce smiled. He waited to see if Jason or probably Y/N walked in but neither did. Red frantically barks to Batman spinning to the exit... They were in danger.

"no" he muttered truly frightened.

Batman runs following the Shepard with Ace. They came to the large stand in freezer. They had to be alive. They had to..

"Y/N! Jason! Stay away from the door I'm going to get you both out!"

They didn't speak but could hear as their teeth chatter. Their cheeks ice cold as they were shaking. Bruce used his bolt cutters to open the doors. He pulls the doors open. He sees both Y/N and Jason shivering in each others arms. Red quickly ran to her owners to lick their faces. She began to whine greatly worried for them both. Y/N and Jason smiled petting her. Their faces were pail and their hair was nearly frozen.

"good girl.. Good girl" Jason proudly said

Alfred flew the bat-plane and landed to the ground. Bruce carries his son while Alfred carried Y/N to the helicopter. Alfred laid his granddaughter on the stretcher. Bruce did the same laying Jason on the other stretcher. Alfred and Bruce grabbed heated blankets laying them on Jason and Y/N. Bruce whistled to the dogs. Red laid with Y/N close to her laying on her arm, while Ace laid with Jason. Bruce knew the dogs could help keep their body temperatures up. Moment's later.. Red stood in the hallway in Wayne Manor. On the left side of the hallway in the room, she could smell the sweat dripping from Jason and the hint of his musk. In the room with him was Alfred.. Alfred smelled like cookies and comfort. In the right side of the room in the bedroom was, Y/N. She smelled of her favorite shampoo/perfume and of sweat from the severe coldness. She also smelled Steph who smelled of the cupcakes. Red would always never touch the sweet treat because she was a good dog. With Steph and Y/N was Cass along with Barbara. Cass smelled of vanilla from her favorite candles and a hint of Chinese noodles. Barbara often smelled of floral perfume to block the smell of sent from her constantly working as Oracle and coffee but not as much as Tim. Red softly whines at Y/N's door. Stephanie opens the door. She runs into the bathroom to see her second but very loved owner stepping into the warm tub.

"H-hey girl" Y/N weakly says happy to see her rescuer.

She let out a groan in tiredness of her muscles from the intense coldness. She also feels nauseated, that she thought was probably from her fever. She yawns lowering herself into the water. Red approaches closer greatly concerned. She puts her paws on the rim of the tub. She smells Y/N to make sure she didn't have any blood. She then smells something.. Different. Something she never experienced. It was lovely but very different. She barks loudly to alert the girls, seeing Y/N's face turning a different color. Barbara rolled in her wheelchair to Y/N, with the Wayne daughter's right in front of her. Cass takes a bathroom trash can and placed it close to Y/N. She held it as she began to reek into the can. Red whined sadly licking Y/N's shoulder and back for comfort. Stephanie held her hair back. Y/N takes a deep breath as she finally stopped. Cass rids of the nasty vomit as Y/N cleaned herself. She then dressed in her long sleeve shirt and Jason's sweatpants he had left here. She loves wearing his clothes. Jason's hands try to shake as he leaves the tub. The coldness of the freezer weakened his muscles. Both him and his wife had a low grade fever. He dresses into sweatpants and a red hoodie. He really wants to go see her so he could hold her, but he's so weakened. He sits on the bed taking a deep breath. The door pushes open to see Red. She jumps on the bed and licks Jason's face. Jason softly smiled petting her.

"hey girl! How's my good girl? Have you seen my wife? Is she OK?"

Red barked happily. They are both OK! She smells that unique smell again from her owner. Jason smiled to see his beautiful wife standing right in front of him.

"I was going to come see you babe" he weakly said raising to his feet.

She opens her arms as he hugs her. They held each other just to be together from the near death experience. The weight of worry leaves. They wanted to cry. Y/N and Jason laid in the bed. Red laid by their feet sleeping from the exhausting day. Jason held his wife's now warm face in his hands. She feels her eyes shake. He kisses her as she begins to cry in his arms.

"it's OK babe. I was scared to" Jason admits to try and ease her to not worry about being emotional.

"that's not why I'm crying.. I mean I was scared. Though I.. I was throwing up earlier. I thought it was because of the fever but.. I took a test because I really wanted to know and.." she stammered unable to stop her emotions from taking over.

"Y/N are you?... Is their a baby?.. Is the baby ok?" his heart raced he was a dad or he was going to be. Those thoughts scared him. One would make him so thrilled the other would break his heart.

"yes! Yes! And yes!" she cried with a smile on her face

Jason let out a deep breath his chest heavy. Feeling like he was never more.. Happy and emotional at once. He kisses her with so much passion, wanting to show her his love. She feels his love in his lips. The rawness was nearly overwhelming.

"Aww babe.. I can't believe--" his eye's shake he didn't want her to see him cry but he couldn't help it. His throat shakes as he keeps trying to say all he, feels. She could've had a miscarriage. He could have lost both his wife and their baby. How is the baby ok after that? He couldn't believe it, but everything is OK "that's great" he leans forward kisses her and hugs her while burying his tearful face in her neck. So overwhelmed with relief that everything was OK "that's really great"

Jason and Rose are Earthborn but use the Alliance to run away from the Reds. They lie about their age so they can enlist without any real questions being asked and since they grew up in an orphanage their birth certificates were "misplaced" and the recruitment officer just pushes the paperwork through since Rose is a biotic.

Jason wants to shield Rose from what he can (even though he's the younger twin) and he's on another ship when Rose is on shore leave and is one of the frigates that responds to the distress signal and almost punches a hole in a wall when he realizes how close it really was and how far Rose pushed her biotics to save people.

So when the Alliance puts together a plan to hit Torfan, Jason asks to be included and uses that as 'revenge' and just...unleashes hell. Rose is the only person he trusts absolutely without hesitation (before Kaidan) so when he thought he was going to lose her, he had so much rage. When they were in the Reds, Jason took the hits and was the enforcer so Rose wouldn't have to. He kept her off the streets with the rest of the girls and trained her to fight so they could go on collection runs together.

She ended up excelling in math/accounting and had the idea if she was ever allowed to do the books for the gang, she'd skim enough so they could escape off Earth and start somewhere new.
