Otome Prompt 2
Someone with no idea that they reincarnated into the world of an Otome game is reborn into the body of a young jester in training.
Using the jester's privilege to speak and mock people of power freely, they soundly dismantle the lovesick Capture Target's logic and behaviors as they fawn over the Heroine while neglecting their own fiancées.

I agree that Mushroom is not reliable at all, but I do think there is a lot of value to his testimony that I absolutely love and people may overlook.
He's a raunchy and often vile man obsessed with making everyone know that he has a huge penis, make no mistake, but at the heart of it, Mushroom is a court jester. And court jesters at that time had a specific political role that only they could carry out. Jester's privilege: they were the only ones in court who could say the hard truths out loud that no one else couldn't.
It's Mushroom who tells the tale of the Shepherd, the doomsayer who stirs up King's Landing to storm the Dragonpit. His take on it is sensationalized but still rather tame for a Mushroom account. Rhaenyra didn't think much of the smallfolk's civil unrest and thought she could wait it out in the Keep. This is how Mushroom recounts it:
“Mother, what if they kill Tyraxes?” the young prince said. The queen did not believe it. “They are vermin. Drunks and fools and gutter rats. One taste of dragonflame and they will run.” At that the fool Mushroom spoke up, saying, “Drunks they may be, but a drunken man knows not fear. Fools, aye, but a fool can kill a king. Rats, that too, but a thousand rats can bring down a bear. I saw it happen once, down there in Flea Bottom.” This time Queen Rhaenyra did not laugh. Bidding her fool to hold his tongue or lose it, Her Grace turned back to the parapets.
I think Mushroom is reliable here — if not in the exact details, then in spirit. A fool and a child are saying what the queen is refusing to believe. Common people can kill dragons. In a way, it's believable that Rhaenyra deludes herself otherwise, because the exceptionalism of her rule and dynasty would crumble if she accepted the truth unfolding right in front of her.
But it's absurd at its core, isn't it? Only a fool would have to tell us that kingdom-conquering dragons can be killed by starved rats.
Do you think Mushroom in F&B is ever reliable? How do you choose which of Mushroom's accounts to incorporate into your fics and which ones to disregard?
the hinges on this question would keep at the battle of Helm's deep and never shatter.
i don't think you can believe Mushroom at all. Any eye-witness testimony is questionable under the most fortunate circumstances - and Mushroom wasn'T even that. He's an illiterate dude who was stuck by Rhaenyra's side, and not even for the whole time, who reminisces about shit that happened at minimum 10 years before the Testimony is actually written down. I don't believe in saintly Targs at all, but Mushrooms sells a wholly oversexualised picture that speaks a lot more about who he is as a person rather than the topics of his stories.

Rulemaker AU
Manager Y/N, given the task to supervise the recently renovated Plex after it had burnt down under mysterious circumstances several years prior, deals with the precarious and dangerous legacy of the location. Monsters linger underground and spirits wander the halls by night.
The Daycare had been transformed into a theatre area, where Sun and Moon reign supreme as separate animatronics, finally enjoying the thrill of being adored by an audience once more. Various performances are given, from sublime and serious classical pieces, all the way to innocent puppet shows to entertain the children.
Sun relishes the opportunity to enchant thousands each day, making the audience wish for more. Moon plays a wonderful and devilish villain in many plays, a frightening and charming presence, descending onto the stage from wires or silken ribbons
They call Y/N their "darling rulemaker", teasing and taunting their cute little manager at any given moment, placing ridiculous complaints and demands, compensating for having been so neglected by management during the old Pizzaplex days. The two jesters are amused with how Y/N does their best to remain unphased by their nonsense, even when Sun sneaks a hand kiss or when Moon playfully places flowers in Y/N's hair as he passes them by. After all, a jester should be gallant with their aristocrat.
A security protocol pulses in Sun and Moon's inner systems, designed to awaken each time the two sense danger or a threat to both the Plex and those within it. Their minds forge a telepathic bond and together they think as one, forming a consciousness known as Eclipse. Intruders and robbers meet their gruesome fate at the hands of cackling jesters, eyes of silver and eyes of crimson glowing in the darkness as the celestial animatronics chase down their prey. Y/N is definitely not in a good mood when they find the walls smeared in blood in the morning. Not even when little hearts and stars are drawn around various unhinged messages such as "have we served our rulemaker well?" Fortunately, Y/N has plenty of coffee to keep dealing with such nonsense.

Quick story, bear with me...
So I'm at a public social event at which I am easily the youngest person there (which is funny bc I'm not really that young comparatively speaking but whatever). But I've been attending these meetings for many months, we all know each other, they are a bunch of catty old ladies, but we have fun.
Anyway, last meeting, one of these ladies just completely out of the blue drops a slur and starts to really rev herself up into a good transphobic rant and I can already see some of the other ladies starting to nod, eager to join in.
And here's the thing.
You spend a lot of time on the internet, you start to think you need to have a perfect reaction to things. Exactly the right talking point to change people's minds, educate, fight the good fight. But in reality? Most of the time saying *anything* is preferable to saying nothing and you're not going to have a textbook response on the tip of your tongue when you're put on the spot.
So what did I do in this moment? As soon as she dropped the slur, I theatrically rolled my eyes and went, "Oh God, Grandma's been hitting the sauce again. Now she's dropping slurs and the pants are coming off!"
And this immediately got a big laugh from everyone, even the person being transphobic. Because I know these ladies and they all know me as a joker and they like me so everyone immediately took it as me "just kidding" so there was no offense.
Was this some kind of perfect response that was going to change the minds and hearts of all assembled? No, it was just literally my knee jerk reaction, to turn it into a stupid joke. To call it out for what it was, even in a silly way, because I couldn't just sit there and let the comment stand.
But the thing was... it worked.
I was "just kidding," but it called attention to the fact that what she said was not okay. And when we all stopped laughing and the lady finished winking and telling jokes about her teacup being secretly filled with straight whiskey, we finally got back to what we were talking about and nobody else so much as hinted at a transphobic comment the rest of the hour and a half, even though the topic we were discussing gave them several openings.
Which is all to say, when someone is being racist or sexist or transphobic or shitty in any of the many other ways people can be shitty, calling attention to it at all helps! You don't have to have a perfectly measured, educational response ready to go. Never underestimate the power of a simple "not cool, bro" or pulling a face for making it clear that not everyone here is on board with their hate because it can and will shift the vibe.
Just my two cents.
