But he’d show interest in other ways, without realizing it himself.

Noticing his attempt, you straight up ask him about it. “...Do you like me, Jimmy?” “What?? I-” … “Yes. I do.”

Once it’s said and done, he eventually asks you out on a date.

Listen… Jimmy may be overconfident, especially when it comes to his seduction skills

However, there’s something about you that makes him nervous.

What you think about him and how he comes across matters to him.

That’s why he plans a date weeks ahead, trying to make everything perfect

He tries figuring out what you like and dislike so he can use that to make a good impression. 

He takes you out to some fancy restaurant (RIP early season Jimmy’s wallet 😭)

The date goes well and he is very smug with his effort.

After a few dates, Jimmy realizes he’s fallen for you.

At first he tries to hide it. He doesn’t want to come across as “desperate” or “needy”. 

But then again… He’s not good at hiding his true feelings.

Luckily, you feel the same and eventually you become a couple for real. 

He was the first one to say “I love you”, and did so without realizing it.

You were leaving for work or something and he just goes: “Bye, love ya!” Completely flustered when he heard what he just said.

When you say it back, he feels a wave of relief. 

After that, he makes sure to say ILY as often as he can.

He won’t shut up about you. Like ever. 

“So then my partner said…” “My partner brought me this shirt!” “I’m taking my babe out on a date tonight” And everyone else will eventually be like: 😐”Shut up”😐

He’ll refer to you as his spouse/wife/husband, watching everyone confused “You’re married?” “I will be soon” 🤭

Jimmy’s a sucker for cute pet names. And yeah, some of them are probably “cringe” but that won’t stop him

He loves it when you wear his shirts. Especially as lounge clothing or when sleeping.

Jimmy also finds matching outfits adorable. 

Would probably take you shopping for either suits/blazers or just hoodies that you can match. 

He also buys matching jewelry, towels, morning robes etc etc… He’s one of those guys 😭

He has a picture of you standing on the desk in his office, as a way to carry the sweetheart with him all the time. 

…And also to brag about you to anyone that enters his office (but he puts the picture away when dealing with some of his unpredictable clients, homeboy is overprotective)

Speaking of being overprotective: He deals with a lot of shady people, so he’s very careful with who he chooses to trust when it comes to talking his love to you.

He prioritizes your safety over anything else. 

Ofc he’s scared for his own safety too, but pretty much puts it aside to make sure you’re safe first off. 

If danger comes up, he’d make sure to find somewhere safe for you to stay whilst he deals with it.

He would go so far as hiring a bodyguard for you tbh.

Being with him might be a struggle too

Homeboy is a bit unpredictable and impulsive

No but literally, you’ll sometimes have to stop him from acting out on his weird revenge ideas or stuff that could get him into trouble.

But honestly? He prefers cuddling at home and watching movies with you.

He is not a good chef, so he buys a lot of food from restaurants and brings it home if you’ve had a long day at work.

He makes sure to be a romantic bastard too. 

Candlelit dinners, taking baths together, picnics… You name it. He loves spoiling you. 

He wouldn’t admit it to anyone else but hear me out… Home-spa dates 👀

He did use to have his office at a nail salon, so he knows his way around those things

If you allow him to, he likes painting your nails - with him choosing the color

Like I said, Jimmy enjoys cuddling you.

He has a lot of feelings, traumas etc pent up, which he dares to let out around you.

He has learnt that he can be vulnerable with you and not get judged, which he appreciates.

That’s why he loves coming home to you after a long day and simply resting in your arms.

He prefers being the little spoon - to feel protected and loved by you. <3

To summarize: It might take him a while to put the pieces together and actually confess his feelings for you - but once he does he spends every day letting you know how much you mean to him.

i don't think jimmy had very much to move. kim loves one (1) homeless man.

i think in a scenario where he had an apartment in abq, they might've alternated spaces longer (thinking of kim making that drive up to santa fe to spend the night with him there so often!! a little era i want to spend more time in!)

but after they reconcile and he quits, they clearly just keep spending their nights together in the big bed that has running water and a fridge in the local vicinity, not the one surrounded by waving clown suits and that maybe cant even unfold anymore now that there's a huge fuck-off cocobolo desk in that space 😂

that said i always like how this law-office-for-love show kind of parallels some form of moving-in-together conversation with the creation of wexler/mcgill. they don't talk about jimmy moving in (on screen? at all? who cares) but they do talk about linking their initials together on a business card and taking on a huge shared expense, 50/50.

was the canon ending of lacho - nacho dying by his own hand in the middle of nowhere and lalo's only mention of him being a one liner - your worst outcome for lacho? or do you think it could've been worse?

This might be controversial, but I don't think that the ending we got was all that bad for Lacho. It didn't retcon or negate their season 5 story line. It didn't give Lalo a secret wife/girlfriend. It didn't have Nacho suddenly become a raging homophobe. I made a Lacho Power Point presentation a while back about how their fates are eerie echoes of each other, so even if we didn't get them together on screen again, we got a link between them. Maybe it would have been nice to hear Lalo say something about him, but who on the show would he ever share his true feelings with it? Having Lalo react to learning of his death would have been interesting, excpet Lalo never found out that he died.

I can't really think of an ending for them that I would have liked without completely changing the plot of BCS and ignoring BrBa canon. They were doomed from the start (which is part of the reason I love them, because I love star-crossed relationships).

Because there was no way Lalo would have forgiven Nacho in canon. I love to imagine different scenarios in the context of fic, but specifically in canon, it would not work. Maybe if it was just him being a spy, Lalo could look past it, but Nacho made an attempt to assassinate Hector and ended up crippling him in the process. That secret was bound to come out sooner or later (and honestly, just having Lalo never find out would be pretty unsatisfying). There's just no way for it to make any sense for Lalo to find that out and decide to forgive Nacho anyway within such a short span of episodes.

And if Lalo doesn't forgive Nacho, his only other option is to kill him, which means Nacho's only option is to try to defend himself. One (or both) of them killing the other is a really bad Lacho ending for me, even if it meant that the Lalo/Nacho plot was more prominent in the story and we got another few scenes of them. It would feel completely pointless, particularly since the beef that set them against each other in the first place was the one between Hector and Gus, using Lalo and Nacho as their pawns. It wouldn't feel cathartic at all, the way it felt for Will and Hannibal or Louis and Lestat, for example.

An ending where they put their differences aside to team up against their common enemy, Gus, would have been really fun to see...in an alternate reality where BCS is an action/adventure show instead of a tragedy and also isn't a prequel with certain elements of canon that cannot be altered. As a premise for a fic, it's fantastic. But BCS is a prequel, and we already know that Gus makes it. Lalo and Nacho teaming up, only to be killed by Gus, is a bad Lacho ending, especially since there was not room for a slowburn plot about their relationship. Them hating each other and then immediately dying before their relationship was given time to evolve would not have been satisfying.

Basically, any ending that would have been "good" for Lacho would have been bad for the show. Maybe if the show had ten seasons, Nacho and Lalo's relationship could have been a more central plot point. But it was six seasons instead, and as much as I would love more BCS and more Lacho, I know in my heart that ten seasons would have ruined it. Making it longer would have involved making it more episodic, like shows like Star Trek or Buffy, which isn't the right format for the story they were telling - the fall of Jimmy McGill, with all of the other plots being tools to tell that story.

So I think all of the best case scenarios for Lacho are the sole domain of fic, which is fine! I've always considered canon as just one way to experience characters, with reading/writing fic being just as enjoyable

I'm rewatching s1 of BCS (as one does) and I keep noticing how big Chuck's house is. Nothing new under the sun, but. I was wondering, do you think Chuck knows that Jimmy is living in his office (and what kind of office)? Do you think that if he knew, he would offer a spare room in his house? (It's really big, even for two people, for sure it's gotta have a guest room).

I'm not saying that Jimmy would have immediately accepted the offer but... Idk, i wanted to know your opinion abt this bc i really love how insightful your metas are and the relationship between the McGill brothers is MESSY.

ah, thank you! that's honestly a really interesting question. i've never thought about it before. my best guess would be that he didn't know because he didn't ask. he didn't seem to know that jimmy was broke in the first episode, which leads me to believe he didn't know much about jimmy's living situation. however, had he known, i don't really think that he would have offered, but that's kind of complicated by the fact that he doesn't leave the house. the way that i see it, a lot of his neurosis regarding the house and electricity seems to be about control and needing to control his environment. considering that, i wouldn't really hold it against him if he didn't want jimmy to live there since his inability to control jimmy seems to be a major source of anxiety for him. especially back in s1 he also seemed to feel that his expression of kindness towards jimmy was in holding back the all resentment and bitterness that had accumulated towards him, basically that his contribution to their continued relationship was in not constantly attacking jimmy (i think this ultimately did way more harm than good, but he had good intentions). that also leads me to believe that jimmy living there would be a major stressor because i don't think he'd be communicating, he'd be repressing more and more, and the tension would start building faster than it already was. it's definitely not impossible for me to imagine alternative scenarios, but that seems the most likely to me, and if on i'm the right track then i think it was probably for the best. i feel like jimmy and chuck as roommates would start as a sitcom and then very quickly turn into a horror movie.

don’t worry you didn’t come across as anti sansa! i don’t think sansa would ever end up as the chuck to arya’s jimmy (she’s far more compassionate than chuck is), but at the i do think their relationship has some interesting parallels to the mcgill brothers. i feel like sansa being the chuck to arya’s jimmy would be a fascinating (but depressing) darkest timeline scenario.

The books and show focused so much on Arya's jealousy and resentment of Sansa, it would be a very dark and interesting wrinkle if as they grew up, the feelings reversed.

Nearly finished The House at Midnight by Lucie Whitehouse. It's a bit similar to the Secret History, one of my favourite books ever, so I really enjoyed it! Plus, Whitehouse's writing is so lucid and elegant, precise and descriptive without being purple, the kind of writing I could read forever!
