How were BBC Sherlock shippers so rancid about a WOMAN who wasnt even in the SAME SHOW?????

Martin Freeman of BBC Sherlock insulted Elementary and specifically Lucy Liu in the press. He straight up called Lucy Liu a "dog" in an interview APPARENTLY as a joke, because calling female actors ugly is hilarious. Benedict Cumberbatch was more measured about it, but he still said he was cynical about Elementary because it would lose the "male friendship" dynamic, which of course Johnlock shippers used against Joan Watson fans. Even the lead BBC Sherlock actors got in on the yaoi victimization of Joan Watson... 😔

she wasn't even in the same SHOW as the yaoi I've been convinced she deserves to win the entire poll. I was a Johnlocker but I did watch the first season of Elementary and it was fine????? It was totally okay????? Especially in hindsight given how hard Sherlock season four flopped. Also Lucy Liu is a queen and deserved zero vitriol for *checks notes* playing a character???? A fucking fictional character???????? Oh my god we were all SO mean to this show and we (or at least I) thought it was like The Good Fight™️, like we were defending BBC Sherlock against copyright infringement and straightwashing and Jonny Lee Miller's bizarre scarf, (it wasn't a good scarf I do stand by that) but then Elementary didn't make Holmes and Watson a couple either???? And also it didn't insult its audience constantly etc etc we've all seen the Hbomberguy Sherlock is Garbage video. This is really long sorry hashtag justice for Joan Watson

She's Spock's canon partner in AOS, and I get it because they're not a great couple, but she gets villianized in fic so much. They constantly make her an asshole (which totally has nothing to do with her being black /sarcasm) and abusive just for the crime of dating a man headcanoned as gay. And I mean, I think Spock is gay and her being a love interest was unnecessary but still! She's cool!

Oh my god so in the Star Trek reboot she’s Spock’s girlfriend and the fandom has no idea what to do with her??? Like she is ALWAYS either such a bitch or like the mom friend? And there is so much more to her character than that? But they always break down her character AND find a quick and easy way to break up her and Spock. I’m not even mad at that but at least treat their relationship with some weight instead of just being like ‘it never mattered’. People can love multiple people throughout the course of their lives. You know that right? Just because you loved someone before doesn’t make your new love any less special. And even headcanoning Spock as gay… you realize he doesn’t need to be attracted to Uhura for their relationship to have mattered, right? Even if he confused friendship for romantic attraction, him feeling such strong friendship and openly expressing it is so monumental for him!!! 

she's dating Spock, who people ship with Kirk, so fans have decided that it's horrible writing and "really, they're just defending her, the movies turned her into just a love interests," which is not at all true. The movies do so much more for her to the point that the fans who have only seen the movies think that the main characters are Kirk, Spock, and Uhura instead of the Kirk, Spock, McCoy of the original series. Also having a black women being shown as being desired and loved in mainstream media, particularly by one of the most popular characters of all time, is a good thing, not making her "just a love interest"

without further ado: sick boy headcanons ✨

we all know simon's a total james bond/connery fanboy. i imagine this stems from a real place of childhood innocence and admiration :,) little simon staying up late to watch old james bond films on tv in his pajamas, just completely in awe. his childhood bedroom has a bunch of 007 memorabillia and connery posters, and he'd spout trivia to his friends at school and rant about how cool he thinks bond is, still tired but buzzin from staying up to watch the rerun the night before. total fanboy nerd shit, a really pure sort of excitement. he still loves it, but he's toned down the geeking out over it as he grew up to appear cooler, but james bond will always be a childhood idol. it's a reminder of a simpler time for him, when all the world's grodiness had yet to corrupt him. mark definitely remembers spending recess staring into space, listening to simon gush about connery. just sweet and innocent times. before the world went to shit. "downward trajectory."

imagine going thrifting with him. vibes. would definitely push you around in the cart. i just did a robert fischer hc where i said rob might like to go shopping. if rob likes it, simon loves clothes shopping. loves to keep himself looking sharp. it's mostly thrifting but when he comes into a bit of money he'll splurge on luxury stuff. i highkey hc he buys his s.o. those matching barbed wire rings. whenever he gets in a fight and he sees the nick of the wire on the other guy where his fist landed he just does a little :) bc he's... not a good person ! but it reminds him of s.o 💕

there are definitely days where mark, simon and s.o. hang out in the bathroom to touch up each other's hair. just smoking and buzzing rents' head, touching up simon's roots with a toothbrush, lying in the empty bathtub/sitting on the sink counter while waiting for simon to rinse his hair out, chatting shit.

also a lot of playing football with the guys/cheering them on and going out to celebrate or complain afterward depending on how the game went (i feel like the guys are pretty bad at football but they'd never admit it)

in the movies simon ends up owning a pub but i feel like in another life he'd be a good businessman. become a real city slicker, a little bit of a wolf of Wall Street existence

-You would walk into the room and stop in the door way, looking around at the people, wondering who to greet first

-No one would notice you, they would all be involved with their games and conversations

-But someone would clear their throat behind you, startling you

-Turning you would be greeted by a smirking George Knightley

-After greeting each other he would lean down and whisper to you “Look up”

-Doing so you would immediately blush at the realization of where you were standing

-Mr Knightley would smirk even more at your reaction before clearing his throat and telling you a small fact about the mistletoe tradition

-Wondering how you were going to get out of this situation (not that you wanted too) you tried to rack your mind for a joke or reason to leave

-But before you could Mr Knightley would lean closer again before speaking quietly to you “It would be a shame to break the tradition”

-Not knowing how to respond you only nodded lightly

-Smiling, Mr Knightly would gently take you face in his hand and press a kiss to your lips

-You would be surprised, having expected a small peck, but instead getting a more passionate longer kiss

-After pulling away he would smile at you before glancing at the others in the room, all of whom were unaware of what was happening in the doorway

-He would then take your arm in his and lead you into the room without a word

-The rest of the night would go on normally, but this time, every time you and Mr Knightley would make eye contact you would smile about the secret the two of you now shared

Simon doesn't share.

When Mark & Simon first move in together it’s strictly a platonic arrangement. Mark moves what little stuff he has into Simon’s spare room and Simon’s surprised at how seamlessly they fall into a domestic routine. Mark finds a job and comes home most nights to Simon cooking dinner. They watch movies together; lights off and volume up. When Simon gets tired he lays down on the sofa and rests his head in Mark’s lap. Mark plays with his hair and they don’t overthink it. When Mark starts seeing someone, Simon becomes needy and petulant. He’s jealous. When Mark brings her home for the first time Simon barely speaks a word but he joins them at dinner and glares daggers at her from across the table. Simon knows it’s childish. He doesn’t care and Mark doesn’t notice. Si bides his time. It’s three and a half weeks of third-wheeling and back handed compliments but he finally makes his move one evening while the three of them are watching a Connery movie. He yawns, he stretches and without a second thought he reclines back against Mark (Because of course Simon would make a point of sitting beside Mark so that his girlfriend couldn’t). Mark’s eyes never leave the screen as Simon’s head falls into his lap and Mark automatically threads his fingers through Si’s thinning, bleached mop. It’s routine. This is the kind of blind intimacy they’ve both grown accustomed to. Simon doesn’t have to look to know they’re being watched but when he does, his eyes meet hers. She’s glaring and Simon smirks; it’s sadistic, pitiless and so typically Sick boy. He silently mouths the word “Mine” and that’s the last he or Mark ever see of what’s-her-name.

If you could cast any Holmes actor for the role of Raffles, which one would you choose? Could you imagine any Watson actor as Bunny?

Ooh interesting ask! I would love to hear others' thoughts on this too. I kind of want to consider them all xD or at least the ones I've seen the most of, if i may....

Ronald Howard is the first one to come to mind, i think bc of his curly hair and the mischievous nerdiness of his Holmes. He doesn't have enough darkness or edge that i think a Raffles should have, so he's not my pick.

I have wondered what Jeremy Brett would be like as Raffles, of course! I could see An Ideal Husband (1969) era Jeremy as a good movie Raffles. Beautiful, nimble, and a bit naughty and quirky.

Yuko Takeuchi (Rest in Peace) would be excellent. She's funny, an aesthetic snob, and can run in heels which feels like something our athletic Raffles would be able to do. Her Sherlock cares deeply about her Watson/Wato (played by Shihori Kanjiya who would be perfect as Bunny btw). I and many others headcanon Miss Sherlock as autistic, and i think that could be really interesting for the character of Raffles. Raffles and Bunny's relationship is messy with lots of back and forth, like Sherlock and Wato. And some find Raffles to be cold and inconsiderate but he's really not--and that's something a lot of autistic people are faced with, sadly.

RDJ would do a good job and he'd make a fun Raffles but he's starred in so many things, I'd rather see Raffles played by someone who hasn't had a big breakout role yet. Perhaps 90s RDJ?

Vasily Livanov i think would be the best Raffles out of all these! Based a lot on his looks tbh 😂 i meannnnn

That is a Raffles face if i ever saw one. His Holmes was also a playful nerd 👏 and i can totally see him as a cricketer, an artist, and a jewel thief. 👑

Benedict Cumberbatch has the eyes, the physicality, and the sexiest voice, but i want to say that like RDJ he's played some bigger roles and is maybe too famous for my liking to play Raffles. Sherlock or pre-Sherlock era Ben would be a skinny nerd Raffles and I'd love that :D

Jonny Lee Miller: I've only seen 2 episodes of Elementary and I'm more familiar with him as Sick Boy in Trainspotting. Based on that i think he was quite Raffles-ish (and Renton was Bunny-ish), a thief, a sensitive bad boy, a punk who eventually finds a way to live an outwardly respectable lifestyle as a criminal. He could be a good Raffles.

Robert Stephens: he had the classical background and also was good at comedy, handsome, athletic looking...i *think* i saw him in a cricket scene with Tim Curry in an old movie.. He'd be a capable Raffles.

It’s been a hot minute, how are you?

Random headcanon for you: Holmes doesn’t like rounding time even in casual conversations, Watson will be like “how long until we need to leave?” and instead of saying “about twenty minutes” Holmes will say something like “well it’s 4:57 so we have exactly eighteen minutes”. Mycroft does this too, and gets genuinely annoyed people say things like “we have about ten minutes” instead of giving exact numbers. Holmes is generally okay with other people rounding time (with the exception of investigations where he needs exact times) but hates doing it himself. Watson eventually starts giving exact times as a force of habit just from living with Holmes for so long.

Pretty sure it was prior to JLM and Angelina’s marriage (early ‘90s, and Jonny/Angelina were married in 1996). But good lord, the possibilities. She would’ve had all three of them on their knees begging (or, my own personal headcanon: Ewan and Jonny sub, and Jude pretends that he is, too, but is really in on it with Angelina because he wanted a threesome with Ewan and Jonny but was unsure how to make it happen, hence bringing in Angelina...a.k.a., the British Threesome Fairy Dom-mother)...
