A giggle came from your mouth as you looked at the board, you had only two names down from the 20 drivers you were supposed to rank from age. "I won." You decided nodding, a few laughs came from around making you relax and smile.

"I'm here." You placed your name above Meike. "And he's old as fuck." You placed Killian name under Fernando. "And him, I don't even know. He looks like he could be a dilf, but acts like he's three three." You places Max's name in the middle, with Lewis above and Lando below.

"He . . . Danny phanton is like three mentally, you can't convince me other wise." You chuckled placing his magnet above Max's. " . . . I- I know Magnussen has a daughter no?" "Two." "He has two daughters? Wow. Good luck with that. May the odds forever be in your favor."

"How good is that?" "Very good." The interviewer chuckled making you laugh." "You've got the bottom half right." You hid your face leaning down laughing. "Good enough, no?" You giggled watching someone take away the board and place a flip board instead.

"Oh no. What is this?" You flipped the first page, looking at the written text. "You have to guess who said that." "Not easy peasy lemon squeezy." You stretched you arms clearing your throat.

"Not me." You put a thumbs up smiling. "Is that a point? . . . Oh come on." You whined trying to think.

"Oooh, what's this?" You take the plaque handed to you. "Oh that's khofo." You turned board, pointing at the sfinx. "He looks way prettier in person." You chuckled, looking back at the photograph you admired the other famous landmarks and views from your home.

"Am I supposed to name all of these places? I haven't been that much around. Just luxor and delta." You chuckling looking confused. "Not Cairo or Giza?" You shook your head.

"You can see them next year then, when F1 goes to Egypt." You could feel yourself starting to smile as you looked at her unsurly. "What are you talking about?" You chuckled looking around the room confused. "I don't- wait no. You're not serious." You dropped your hands, jaw falling.

"Your joking." Your ran your hands through your hair. You could feel a wave of excitement rush through you as you jumped in your spot happily, fangirling. "We're going home! Yes yes yes!" You cheered throwing your fist up giggling happily.

"Oh my God. My family can come watch me." You covered your mouth as the idea dawned on you. "Oh my God. Yes yes yes yes! Yesss!"

"Lei— okay." Max pulled the tween up on his lap, continuing with his stream while she laid on his chest quietly. "Mate! You still have her?!" "She's my good luck charm." Max smiled weakly patting the girls back.

That wasn't the reason Leila was still with Max though. Max kept one if his hands free at all time, patting the French-Egyptian's back or stroking her hair to give her the most amount of comfort he can offer.

Max could feel Leila's hug tighten every few minutes and it made his heart ache. She's going through too much and she's just a child.

A jingle came from the carton box as you practically threw it on the floor next to the front door. Your shoes were kicked off and your travel bags flopped on the ceramic as you trudged into your home.

It was too quiet for your liking. And with the prime summer heat, you felt like you were going to melt.

Dings started to sound from your phone as soon as it connected to the wifi, and you could already hear the comments and posts, the tweets, the videos, articles, the memes, the drawings, you could hear of people making fun of you. It was buzzing in your ears. And you couldn't get it out of your head.

And in a moment of rage you threw your phone into down the hall, through the dinner table and salon, across the living room. SMASH. It wasn't going to bother you anymore. You dragged yourself upstairs, pulling the door to your room shut.

"Your tense." "OH WOW! I COULDNT TELL!" You turned to face your uncle's figure, tears welling up in your eyes as your hands visibly started to shake. "I have been working my ASS OFF. I PUT MY WHOLE LIFE INTO THAT GOD DAMN SPORT. I PUT YOUR TIME AND YOUR MONEY INTO THIS WASTE." You shouted, turning around your fist meeting the body mirror, panting heavily.

"Relax, nunu." "How can I relax?!" You turned into Marawan's body, hugging him tightly. "It's over. No one is going to want me now." Sobs escaped your mouth as you felt him softly brushing his fingers through your hair.

"Y/N— " "I'm just a stupid girl. I should've never even tried." "That's not true." "It is. I wasted my time. My effort. My childhood. My life!"

You collapsed on your knees struggling to wipe your vision clear. "What am I doing with my life?" You cried to no one, gripping your hair as you emptied your feelings on the ground.

"That's not true." You heard you mother assure, her cold hand gently caressing your back and she kneeled down beside you. "You made a friend, Max. You got closer with Leila. You baked, Y/N. When was the last time you baked? You took off your mask, how brave was that?"

"It wasn't on purpose." You muttered, chocking on your cries. "But you continued to be brave. You faced on your dad. You faced the world. And you raced with your brothers, you always wanted to do that."

"I raced against them. Not with them." You corrected her. "And it was Killian too. Your golden son crashed into me. And now I have a hole in my hip."

"You choose the sport, Y/N." You pushed her away before she could caress your head, turning away from her, hugging your knees. "No. You did."

"You're the one who got that stupid scholarship. You're the one who went to germany, met dad and married him. You're the one who got in that stupid car. You're the one who smoked. You're the one who put all your expectations, gave me all your dreams to complete. You're the one who died."

"And I was such a bad daughter." You sobbed to yourself. "I couldn't complete your wish. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

"Leila is going to live with that stupid woman—"

"Your mom's here." Leila shook her head wrapping her little arms around Max's neck. "No." She held him tighter. "I stay with Max." She begged in the little English she learned. "Yallah." The older woman pulled the tween from his wrist dragging her away. "Stop being a pain in my ass. Let's go."

Max was carrying the whole team on his back, struggling to stay in p2 and p3 through the races with the other teams taking his broken defence to their advantage.

🔸DEAL NEWS.. Prime Minister's Office:  The negotiating team regarding the hostage deal informed the Prime Minister today about the status of the talks in Doha (Qatar).  The team expressed cautious optimism to the Prime Minister regarding the possibility of moving forward with the deal, based on the latest American proposal (which is based on the May 27 outline) - which includes elements acceptable to Israel.

.. Per the US, the deal is only a few minor points away.  

.. President Biden: I spoke with the ruler of Qatar and the Egyptian president about the great progress made in the Doha talks over the past two days.  I am optimistic about reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. We have an opportunity.

.. Per Hamas, nothing has changed on the unacceptable points.

Senior Hamas official Muhammad Mardawi told "Arab TV" a short time ago that Hamas will not accept any solution that is not compatible with the proposal that was put forth on July 2nd.  Mardawi added that the Palestinian people will not pay the price of the American position covering for Israel and its crimes.

The occupation set new conditions regarding the Philadelphi border corridor after we previously agreed that Israel would withdraw from it.  The  Wall Street Journal regarding an Israeli withdrawal from Philadelphi is not true.

Netanyahu blew up the agreement from the beginning.  We will not allow an Israeli presence on any piece of land in the Gaza Strip.

Israel wants there to be a loophole in the agreement that would allow it to return to fighting.  Israel blew the Doha agreement, there is no progress.

The talk about negotiations, about coexistence with the occupation and about peace - is all a lie.

Moon trine Mars

Moon in Virgo trine Mars in Taurus is the perfect time to act on your instincts and explore desires of the heart, creativity and even take some financial risks as it activates attraction, passion and desire. July 2024 Important Dates

AKA my notes on The Astrology Podcast's July Forecast, hosted by Chris Brennan and Austin Coppock. We're going into this month right off of Saturn stationing retrograde on June 29th, and Neptune following suit on July 2nd.

June Recap: June was heavily influenced by the activity in Gemini, including a Venus cazimi and a stellium with other fast planets. The second half of the month felt heavy influence from Saturn finally getting within conjunction distance (10 degrees) of Neptune in Pisces. Right after the Venus cazimi on June 3rd, Claudia Sheinbaum was elected president of Mexico. Aside from Venus's association with women, the indigenous astrology of Mexico is also based on Venus cazimi cycles. Another Venus story is the launch of the Boeing Starliner--last month our hosts looked at the electional chart for its planned launch and noted that Mercury conjunct Uranus boded ill--and indeed an electrical problem caused them to postpone the launch until June 5th, when the Moon was in Gemini (with 4 other planets). However, with a Leo rising its chart ruler the Sun was separating from Venus and approaching a square with Saturn, and indeed there have been delays with bringing the astronauts back.

On the day of the Mars-Pluto square Hunter Biden was convicted on gun charges. A similar Mars transit showed up in politics with Donald Trump's conviction in May: Trump was convicted with Mars squaring his natal Saturn (ruler of the year for him), in the 9th and 12th houses respectively, fitting for a trial (9th house) over keeping secrets (12th house). There was also a Mercury-Uranus conjunction on his Midheaven (sudden development in public life), and on the July 11th, the day of his sentencing, the Mars-Uranus conjunction will be on his Midheaven. In Hunter Biden's case, Mars conjoined his natal Saturn, when he was convicted of illegally buying guns while under the influence. Saturn was also transiting his Midheaven, and with the North Node there natally it can indicate ill or shadowy reputation (A/N: in Pisces it also fits that he's known for his excessive drug use).

The second half of the month was dominated by a Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Pisces. A new AI video generator was released and saw an explosion of use, including animating still images. It's becoming increasingly difficult to determine what's real and what's an illusion--though in June with many planets in Gemini, we saw a lot of play with this technology.

The final news story this month is the US presidential debate, which occurred within 24 hours of Saturn stationing retrograde in Pisces--a debate between the two oldest presidential candidates in US history. Biden did horribly during the debate, and Saturn's subsequent station occurred right on Biden's Imum Coeli; during the debate the Moon was conjunct Saturn as both approached this point. At the same time, Uranus was transiting Trump's Midheaven while sextiling his natal Venus (ruler of his 10th house), and he did unexpectedly well in this debate for someone who doesn't care about telling the truth in public speaking. With Saturn generally, this debate has risen pressing questions around age and fitness for public office. Speaking of debate timings, Ronald Reagan's astrologer Joan Quigley would schedule debates for times that were good for Reagan and bad for Carter...and indeed this debate is scheduled unusually--it's much earlier than usual. The next debate is scheduled for the Pisces eclipse in September, in Biden's 4th house/Kamala's 10th house (A/N: Trump's 8th; not angular). Back in the year ahead forecast, Chris said there were three big factors in favor of Trump and one in Biden's favor: that eclipse in an angular house. However, the 4th house is also associated with endings (due to being located underground), and considering recent events, could bode ill for the aged president. (A/N: there's also speculation that Biden was experiencing a dementia symptom known as "sundowning" during the debate, and the 4th house is located deepest beneath the earth)

July Forecast:

The main energies this month will be Saturn-Neptune in Pisces as both planets station early in the month, Mars conjoining Uranus, the Capricorn Full Moon in the 21st, and Mercury-Mars tensions as they almost reach a square.

July 2nd - Neptune Retrograde, Mercury enters Leo Neptune-Saturn confusion has been present for us for a week or so already. We're having a difficult time predicting what events mean for the future. Other significations are the line between illusions and reality, idealism vs. limitations, disillusionment or disappointment when dreams collapse, confusion, fatigue or sapping of one's emotional energy, lack of mental acuity, side effects of age leaving to lack of clarity or focus. Whatever age you're at, you may feel the physical effects catching up to you as the conjunction approaches. Austin brings up that superhero movies have just about run their course (Iron Man was released in 2011 as Neptune first entered the sign), and now we're collectively tired of imagining this genre as Neptune gets within 4 minutes of the next sign. Saturn nearby adds an extra level of negation. With AI tools, boundaries are dissolved and new methods for creativity are being introduced as we gear up for Neptune/Saturn in Aries--expect to see new genres. Other Saturn-Neptune keywords include escapism, addiction, sensitivity and compassion. Chris also notes seeing tensions between science and religion or skepticism and belief: large numbers of people, including conservative influencers, are converting to Christianity at the same time as scientific skepticism rises--and astrologers may find ourselves on the negative end of both. Anyone with significant placements at 27-29 Pisces or other mutable signs should pay attention. A Neptune-Mercury trine softens communications; it's a good time for heartfelt conversations.

As soon as Mercury enters Leo it puts him in opposition distance to Pluto, foreshadowing the rest of the inner planets doing so later this month. Paranoia, power plays, and manipulation abound, though investigative journalism and hidden truths can come to light. However, Mercury moves closely into a happy sextile with Jupiter soon after.

July 2nd - Selected Elections for the month (not pictured) This month Chris has two elections, both on the 2nd, to try and take advantage of the Jupiter-Moon conjunction before Mars and Uranus start to complicate things.

The first chart is at about 1:00PM local time so that the Ascendant trines Jupiter in the 9th house, the Moon is applying to a conjunction with Jupiter, and the Ascendant ruler Venus in Cancer is in the 10th house, forming a trine with Saturn. The flowing, nurturing energy in Cancer and Pisces is highlighted in this chart (see New Moon for more). The downside is that you bake the Mercury-Pluto opposition into things, so beware of paranoia in communications.

The other variant of this chart is later in the day with Sagittarius rising:

At about 5:30PM local time, this gives you Jupiter in the whole sign 7th house in a day chart with the Moon still applying to a conjunction. This one is oriented more towards other people. These are much different than the electional charts earlier this year where he encouraged us to take advantage of the stellia; now we're entering more challenging territory.

July 5th - New Moon in Cancer

Both luminaries (14♋) apply to a trine with Saturn (19♓) soon after, while Venus (22♋) is within a loose conjunction of them in Cancer. Meanwhile, Mercury (5♌) sextiles Jupiter (9♊) in Gemini with reception (Jupiter is in Mercury's sign). Saturn's trine is constructive, helping us figure out how to work within our limitations and distribute our burdens more evenly. With Venus and Cancer there brings a connotation of caring for and nurturing something that can't survive without you like a child, pet, or house plant. And with care, duty is not far behind. Think sweet and compassionate. Mercury sextile Jupiter on the 8th will continue some of these good vibes for us.

July 11th - Venus enters Leo Venus is getting further from the Sun and begins to rise more and more visibly as the month progresses. When she's fully out from under the beams, we can finally see the results of work that was hidden while she was close to the Sun. We'll also see a return of themes from the Venus retrograde in Leo last year, but it's different for two reasons: 1) Venus is traveling direct and very fast through the sign, and 2) Pluto in Aquarius opposes her immediately upon ingress on the 11th-12th. Venus in Leo's fun-in-the-sun vibe is marred by shadow for the first few days. Significations include interpersonal paranoia, power plays in relationships and (my addition:) issues of control regarding women. In happier news she (12♌) will sextile Jupiter (12♊) on the 21st right in time for the next lunation, at the same degree where she stationed last year. Jupiter will assuage harsh Pluto aspects for planets transiting Leo this month.

July 15th - Mars conjunct Uranus This occurs on the 14th-15th at 26 Taurus, tightly conjunct the fixed star Algol. Mars-Uranus is already quite volatile, with Mars going fast and Uranus shocking or igniting it. Think accidents (warehouse explosions, for example), interpersonally "exploding," and in wolrd affairs violence such as wars. The US dropped atomic bombs on Japan under Mars-Uranus, and has the signature in its natal chart. This already volatile configuration is conjunct malefic star Algol, known as the head of Medusa, in Chinese astrology as the entrance to the Mansion of Corpses, and in Arabic as Ra's al-Ghul ("head of the monster"), from which we get the word "ghoul." Historically Algol coincides with terrible events, for example the bombing of Guérnica. Austin predicts that most personal lives will be unaffected, but that something atrocious will happen in one of the active conflicts going on right now (though hopes he's wrong about it). Algol also figures strongly into the British royal family, the chart of the European Union, and the modern state of Israel. The Republican National Convention will also begin under this inauspicious alignment. July 16th sees the Moon lighting up all this activity, so it's an inadvisable time to start new ventures.

More generally, Mars-Uranus brings sudden upheavals, rebelliousness, challenging the status quo, impulsiveness, unpredictable behavior & acting on whims, and a strong drive for freedom and independence--for example, the January 6 capital debacle happened right as Mars entered Taurus and began approaching conjunction to Uranus. On the positive side, this can indicate starting new adventures and innovative ideas. Mars and Uranus are both antisocial, so it's advisable to strike out on your own, even just for a few days, instead of trying to get everyone else on board or fighting over different directions. Fierce individualism abounds, though Mars-Uranus can also be quirky and spontaneous--Robin Williams had this aspect in Cancer. Thankfully, Mars leaves Taurus about a week later, leaving Algol's intensity behind.

July 20th - Mars enters Gemini In a new sign, Mars is headed for a conjunction with Jupiter in mid-August, though he'll square Saturn almost immediately after. Funnily enough, that's when the Democratic National Convention takes place--which we already know is going to be a mess. Austin points out the Jupiter-Mars conjunction will be at 16 Gemini, the same degree that Venus conjoined the Sun in June, connecting those events. Mars-Jupiter can be heroic and overcoming...but that requires something to heroically overcome. The lunation really kicks things off:

July 21st - Full Moon in Capricorn

A lot of different aspects are happening at once here. The Moon and Sun oppose each other at 29 degrees of Capricorn and Cancer respectively, with the Moon immediately moving towards a sextile with Neptune (29♓), and then conjoining Pluto (0♒) upon her egress from Capricorn. We'll see an immediate shift in tone with news stories foreshadowing the next month of Mars in Gemini. Mars is, by degree, in exact contra-antiscia to the Moon here. Meanwhile, Venus (12♌) sextiles Jupiter (12♊), so positive things are happening at the same time as this tense lunation. However, Merucry (26♌) squares Uranus (26♉), bringing tensions in communication. This will be one of the more memorable days of the month--ongoing negative developments will rear their heads, some nice things will happen, some unexpected things will happen, and the next day the Sun enters Leo, opposing Pluto in Aquarius.

July 22nd - Sun enters Leo Leo season starts off with the Sun opposing Pluto. For the next 20 years, every time the Sun enters Leo, it will oppose Pluto. The Pluto in Leo generation (mid-40s to 1959; Baby Boomers) will feel Pluto's opposition especially strongly, and the dozens of countries created right after WW2 have Saturn conjunct Pluto in Leo in their charts. We'll see what survives this 20 years and what fades away into history as Pluto opposes all that was built when it was 180 degrees away. Chris brings up that generationally Pluto in Leos may be resisting handing off the reins or trying to seize power back when they're past their prime. Austin brings up the accelaration of celebrity culture as a great distraction from those who are actually powerful during Pluto in Leo....maybe we'll get sick of it over the following decades. In other fixed signs, transiting Pluto now squares natal Pluto for Millennials (Pluto in Sagittarius), who are now having to wrestle with beginning to really age in their 40s.

July 25th - Mercury enters Virgo Communications become more direct and quick with Mars in Mercury's sign, but Mercury is going to retrograde close to a square with Mars at the end of the month, so we may expect some miscommunications, misunderstandings, and sharp words. Swift, smart, clever, and cool. Things may get argumentative and contentious.

By the end of the month, retrograde Saturn (18♓Rx) is moving into square distance from Jupiter (14♊), who will in turn square Neptune later--a signature that brought inflation recently. Saturn is trying to rein in Jupiter, who expands Neptune's dissolution of boundaries. Mars in Gemini further aggravates things. July leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger.

December 2023

The strawberries are here and the red decor too and now Christmas songs have started to play in cafés.

I want to reflect on this year and "wrap it up" so that when I look back at it, at 2023, at being 26, I have a narrative that feels comprehensive. But a narrative for whom? Myself mostly. But also for those I meet. I'm a storyteller. I like narrating everything. Like I'd probably tell that story about that spontaneous 2:30 am drive out the city in late February or the time I almost booked a flight to Chennai or that April night at the rooftop that felt out of smut booktok would obsess over or that midnight in late July when I felt at peace in the arms of a man for the first time. Would I want to tell them about that September evening at the beach holding a white rose and crying like my heart had floated away never to return? I do not know.

How to look back at these 11 months and counting? I don't feel arrogant enough like when I was younger to make lists that sound poetic and profound about my year and the things I learned when now I know the lessons keep repeating, that this is life of mine is very Sisyphean.

Nor do I feel like I want to be harsh on myself and marinate in feelings of incompentency and regret over wasted time and unmet goals and murdered dreams.

I am excited for 2024 but equally scared. But I'm not there yet. I cannot focus on 2024 until I feel like I've said my farewell to 2023. Time may be an illusion but it is my favourite tool to process life. One year ago this time, three years from now, when I was nineteen, when I turn thirty eight...I like to think in terms of time. It doesn't shackle me, it serves me.

December. What do we do with you this time? I'll eat the strawberries and I'll go to the parties and I'll try to find gratitude and reflect over things. But if I only mostly catch up on sleep and enjoy the cool breeze, will you let me proceed?

Retribution Epilogue - Author's Note

Summary: You had DID for most of your life, over forty years, since you were two. It wasn't until after you were forty-three that you were finally able to heal it and become a singular. You're a hunter and have been with Dean for a very long time. Once you become singular, you have to face the horrors that your mental illness subjected on those you cared about, loved. Can you get past seeing yourself as worse than any monster you've ever hunted down?

A/N: This is going to be very dark, darker than anything I've written thus far. It will include many triggers - abuse both sexual and physical - in memories and what happens to the reader. I'm hoping it will have a happy ending but right now, I am not sure where this will go. This is your main warning before you begin reading. A/N: Dreams and Memories are indented in italics. Thoughts are in italics only.

----------------------------------------- Epilogue - Author’s Note

I want to thank all of you as you walked along the path of this fic with me. This fic was therapy for me. See, I had DID from the time I was 2. It took a catalyst for me to plunge through the healing of it, though.

That happened in June of 2022. I did become a singular on July 19th of that same year. I didn’t do it alone. Therapists had attempted to help me, but it was a book I found on Amazon that truly put the pieces in place for me.

When I had DID, my personalities, known as persecutors, abused my husband almost every night over the twenty years we were together. They also deliberately started fights and would throw a completely unaware personality out to deal with the backlash.

If an outsider were to look in on our relationship, though, they would only see my husband as the abuser. The persecutors also tarnished my husband’s reputation and character, so it did look like that. That was not the case at all. It was the persecutors who had become the abusers, but I didn’t learn that until after I healed and became a singular. Did my husband always respond or react in the best way? No, but that is part of being human.

I have made amends with those that would allow it. My husband and I are still attempting to work through things. I do understand where he is at and what he is going through, even if I didn’t experience what he had. I know life is not like a TV show or a fairytale, so have no illusions on the reality that is life. Hope is always stronger than fear, though, at least for me.

I took the time to explain what had happened to certain friends and family, wanting to fix at least some of the damage that had been done. After that, I had to leave the choice up to them as to how they would proceed at that point.

I don’t have all my memories for the timeframe I had DID. I’m okay with that, though. I didn’t need them in order to heal. It’s odd, to go from 42 personalities to being a singular. It’s kind of like waking up for the first time in my life, like I’d been in a coma and only got glimpses of the waking world.

A lot of what the reader felt throughout the story, it’s what I felt and went through emotionally. I was in that dark place that happened at the beginning of the story. My personalities had put a suicide plan in place, which took me six months longer to fully get rid of. I am thankful to say that I worked through that completely.

Part of healing, shortly after becoming a singular, was that I was picking up the pieces of a life that wasn’t mine and figuring out who I even was without the DID. I did feel like a monster, in the beginning. I did what the reader did. I figured out what I wanted to keep, tossed the rest, and then filled the empty space with who I chose to be. 

I realized that everything in life boils down to one thing: making a choice and following through. Even if you don’t think you have a choice to make, you do. You may not like the options of choices, but they are still choices. You can choose one, as well as how you respond to it. The moment you stop reacting and respond instead, your entire life will change, I promise.

To anyone out there going through any kind of mental illness:

Seek help, but don’t let anyone bully you into healing any certain way. Specific things won’t work for you. Don’t be afraid to say that when they truly won’t work. Trying to heal when you have DID is probably harder than other mental illnesses, as it isn’t just “you” that you have to get on board with the idea. 

No matter your mental illness, someone is always rooting for you, even if you don’t know or don’t want to believe that. I may be a stranger, but I’m rooting for you, and I want you to know that, whoever you are and whatever you are going through. You aren’t alone.

The fallout from the New York jury’s conviction of Donald Trump on 34 felony counts last Thursday, May 30, continues. Trump’s team continues to insist that the guilty verdict will help him, but that’s nonsensical on its face: if guilty verdicts are so helpful, why has he moved heaven and earth to keep the many other cases against him from going to trial? And why are he and House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) calling for the Supreme Court to overturn the convictions? 

As political consultant Stuart Stevens put it: “I worked in five presidential races and helped elect Republican governors or Senators in over half the country. I have never heard anything more transparently desperate than a party trying to spin that there is some non-MAGA pool of voters who can't wait to vote for a convicted felon.”

On Friday, Morning Consult conducted a poll to gauge how voters were reacting to the guilty verdict. It showed that 54% of registered voters approved of it, while only 34% disapproved. Perhaps worse for Trump was that 49% of Independents and 15% of Republicans thought he should end his campaign. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 10% of registered Republican voters and 25% of Independents said that his conviction made it less likely that they would vote for him for president. 

Then, on Saturday, there was what Danny Westneat of the Seattle Times called a plot twist. It turns out the state of Washington has a law on the books that prevents felons from running for office. But because a candidate has to be certified to be on a ballot before they can be challenged, the issue can’t be resolved until Trump officially becomes the Republican Party’s presidential nominee at the July convention. Westneat asked, “Republicans: You sure you want to go down this road?”

On Sunday, Trump appeared on Fox and Friends for his first interview since his conviction. The interview was heavily edited, suggesting his comments were problematic in some way, but what was there was still bad enough. He repeated his plans to fire generals who refuse to do his bidding and to deport immigrants by using local police to round them up. Notably, considering his own looming sentencing, he claimed he never said “lock her up” about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a claim that reporters on social media promptly shredded with video clips of him doing exactly that. 

Media figures are puncturing Trump’s image. The verdict buried a story by The Apprentice producer Bill Pruitt, who is now free of a nondisclosure agreement, explaining how he and others created an illusion that Trump was a successful businessman and alleging that Trump used the n-word on set. On Saturday, an image circulated on social media of Trump leaving Trump Tower and waving as if to a crowd, but there was no one there.

Also on Saturday, top sports talk host Colin Cowherd pushed back on the idea that the trial was rigged, telling his listeners: “If everybody in your circle is a felon, maybe it’s not rigged. Maybe the world isn’t against you.” “Donald Trump is now a felon,” Cowherd said. “His campaign chairman was a felon. So is his deputy campaign manager, his personal lawyer, his chief strategist, his National Security Adviser, his Trade Advisor, his Foreign Policy Adviser, his campaign fixer, and his company CFO. They’re all felons. Judged by the company you keep. It’s a cabal of convicts.”

Cowherd went on: “[Trump’s] trying to sell me an America that doesn’t exist.” “Stop trying to sell me on ‘everything’s rigged, the country’s falling into the sea, the economy’s terrible,’” he continued. “The America that I live in is imperfect. But compared to the rest of the world, I think we’re doing okay.”

This morning, Robert Faturechi, Justin Elliott, and Alex Mierjeski of ProPublica reported that Trump’s businesses and campaign committees have funneled significant financial benefits to at least nine witnesses in the criminal campaigns against Trump, often at crucial moments in the legal proceedings. The pay of one campaign aide doubled; another got a $2 million severance package that barred him from cooperating with law enforcement. The daughter of one of the campaign’s top officials was hired onto the staff and is now the fourth-highest-paid employee, with a salary of $222,000. Payments to the companies of certain witnesses dramatically increased.

Faturechi, Elliott, and Mierjeski note that it is not uncommon for bosses to find themselves defendants, complicating their relationship with employees who might have witnessed alleged crimes. In such cases, lawyers advise the defendant not to provide any unusual benefits or penalties, to avoid the appearance of witness tampering.

Trump’s attorney, David Warrington, sent ProPublica a cease-and-desist letter saying that if the outlet and its reporters “continue their reckless campaign of defamation, President Trump will evaluate all legal remedies.” He demanded that ProPublica kill the article, keeping it from publication.

And then, this afternoon, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams, along with the U.S. Department of Labor and the State Department, unsealed an indictment charging Weidong Guan, also known as Bill Guan, the chief financial officer of the global news outlet The Epoch Times, with using the outlet to launder at least $67 million. The Epoch Times is affiliated with the ultraconservative Chinese anticommunist religious group Falun Gong and supports Donald Trump and other right-wing U.S. politicians with both press and cash. It was a major promoter of Dinesh D’Souza’s film 2000 Mules that claimed the 2020 presidential election was stolen. A voter depicted in that film sued for defamation, and just last week the distributor settled with the plaintiff, issued an apology, and stopped distributing the film.

The allegation that The Epoch Times is a money-laundering operation comes on top of yesterday’s story by Joseph Menn in the Washington Post, reporting that the editor of another media site that pushes disinformation from both the far right and the far left, The Grayzone, has worked for Russia’s Sputnik as well as taken money from Iranian government-owned media. One of the people who retweets Grayzone stories is Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).

In the middle of all this bad news for MAGA Republicans, it felt like desperation today when the House Oversight Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic tried to resurrect Covid conspiracy theories against Dr. Anthony Fauci. Fauci was director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from 1984 to 2022, serving under seven presidents. President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the U.S., for his work on combating the global AIDS epidemic. 

Fauci’s position as NIAID director put him at the center of U.S. attempts to grapple with Covid-19, and for his work on developing a vaccine, Trump awarded him a presidential commendation. But first QAnon and then MAGA Republicans centered him as a villain who either started or covered up the pandemic, or forced people to mask or to get vaccines they told their supporters were unnecessary or even dangerous. QAnon conspiracy theorist Ivan Raiklin and convicted January 6 rioter Brandon Fellows were seated behind Fauci today; Fellows made pouty faces when Fauci was describing the death threats he, his wife, and his daughters have endured. 

Video creator and political commentator Michael McWhorter noted that Raiklin has made dramatic threats of violence against those he considers members of “the Deep State” and that he should have been nowhere near Fauci. McWhorter also noted that the two men were likely invited to the hearing and that it would be useful to know who invited them.  

Committee member Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who has skipped seven of the last ten hearings and who has expressed sympathy for QAnon in the past, attacked Fauci by saying he should be prosecuted: “You know what this committee should be doing? We should be writing a criminal referral because you should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity,” she said. “You belong in prison, Dr. Fauci.” For all the nastiness, the hearing turned up nothing.

Later, Greene told Manu Raju of CNN that Speaker Johnson should shut down the government over the Trump verdict and prosecutions. “We're literally a banana republic. So what does it matter funding the government? The American people don't give a sh*t.” 

While MAGA Republicans are insisting that a Manhattan jury’s conviction of Trump means that President Joe Biden has weaponized the Department of Justice and that they must take revenge, the trial of Biden’s son Hunter on federal gun charges, brought by a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney whom Biden kept on, started today. Former top Justice Department prosecutor Andrew Weissmann noted that Biden is “living the rule of law…in the most personal way. He is not telling DOJ to stand down…. He is not pardoning his son…. He is living what it means to have a rule of law in this country…. If you want to know if he believes it, you can actually see what is happening with his own son.”

“Well well well, if it isn’t Julie Joyful. The little angel who believed she could pull one over on me.” Obsidian orbs stared down the angel who continued to hold on to Wally’s arm as if it were a lifeline. Shaking in fear of the man that stood before them. “Did you really think after a few months of making him slip under my radar that I wouldn’t notice?” The miasma surrounding his form began to solidly into black tendrils, causing the War Horseman to be more on edge, prepared to attack as he continued to stand protectively in front of Julie. “You have meddled in affairs that do not concern you. This mortal’s time was meant to end, yet you dared to intervene. “

Wally’s actions did not go unnoticed by Death, an amused smile graced his lips as he glanced at the general then back to Julie. She felt her heart dropped to her stomach, it was foolish of her to believe she could get away with what she has done. However, she didn’t regret it. Letting go of Wally’s arm, she made her way to stand beside him. Despite her fear of Death, her eyes were filled with defiance and determination, “I may have meddled in the affairs that do not concern me, but I could not bear to see him fall. What is the use of having the powers to heal if I am unable to help those who need it the most?” Julie bit her bottom lip and stepped forward, “He is not just a mortal to me…I love Wally and I would do it again if it meant I would be able to spend time with him like this.”

Wally froze as he turned towards Julie, surprised by her confession, however a sense of warmth and joy filled his heart knowing that she felt the same way. Death’s hollow laughter echoes across the forest that surrounded them, sending a cold tremor down the angel’s spine. “Love,” he scoffed, his gaze piercing through Julie like a dagger. “Love is but a fleeting illusion, a pitiful and useless emotion that clouds judgement. Because of your so call ‘love’ you dare to defy the order of things, you have defied me. For that, there must be consequences.”

Wally widen his eyes, before he or Julie could react, the tendrils quickly shot out and coiled around the angel. Engulfing her in a tight cold embrace before she could have the chance to evade them. “Julie!” He called out and made an attempt to help her until he was forced to dodge the solidified miasma from capturing him in its grasps. Wally shot two bullets at Death, however, the bullets phase through, causing the spiritual entity to laugh once more.

“Leave her be!” he commanded, his voice echoing with the authority of a leader born amidst the chaos of war. “If anyone should face your wrath, let it be me because I refused for her to be punished for doing what she believe was the right thing. I love her, if it meant losing my life to keep her safe. I will do just that.”

Death regarded him with an empty gaze, weighing his words with a silence that seemed to stretch on for eternity. Not wanting Wally to sacrifice his life for her, Julie decided to do what she believes what was best. “Death, I will make a deal with you…I will make a deal.” She pleaded shakily.

Interested, Death created a bubble around them, not wanting to be interrupted by the War Horseman. Wally shot a couple of bullets hoping to create an opening, however, it wasn’t enough. “Julie! Julie!!” He banged his fists against the bubble as he felt the icy grip of dread clutch painfully onto his stomach.

life update?

July is almost over, i think these days i'm seeing glimpses of light at the end of the 27 tunnel. why am i writing all these on tumblr, you may wonder? i'm attention-seeking, i seek attention, i fear.

these days i'm feeling relatively stable. i'm laughing a lot, i'm smiling a lot. i mean i was already starting to, then the whole Kamala effect kicked off and i find myself laughing at dumbass things - nothing's ever that serious lol

the astrology people on twitter were not kidding about Saturn's return. 27 has been so fucking difficult, i can see why Club 27 even exists in the first place.

i wouldn't say i was "fighting" the last few months, "fighting" to stay alive? nah. some of my friends know i'm absolutely not "fighting" in any way. i'm glad i hung around i guess?

the first thing - i'm not sure if i'm delulu or what, but please go with me here. these days i stare into the mirror, and my face looks like it's in the process of chiseling itself out. i can see my cheekbones. my cheeks look hollower. (but that could be an illusion? from the shadow of the temple of my glasses casted on my cheeks.)

i don't know if that is part of ageing. or if i lost weight. or if i'm sick. i feel fine though. but i would not be surprised if i secretly had lung cancer all these time from all those years of cigarettes smoking, and now vaping. who knows! i look hot so whatever.

the second thing - i've been listening to chappell roan a lot the last few months, just about the time i noped out of social media lol.

i've been returning to my punk/alternative/rock roots lately. i have too much pent-up rage lately methinks. rage from grief, rage from injustice, rage from.......... actually these two are mainly it. i can't really think of anything right now.

the third thing - penn badgley is so hot. haha. as a sapphic (mostly) no man has ever made me feel anything except penn badgley. not that joe goldberg persona though, it's dan humphrey and woodchuck todd. okay fine, there were. but i would like to mention penn badgley for now 😀

the fourth thing - i've been feeling a lot more social lately. being social online helps. talking to people helps. making plans with friends whom i love, trust, and respect helps.

i wonder if i wasted all these time isolating myself. maybe i'd be better quicker. or i'd lash out for no good reason. we'll never know. i guess it also helps when the trigger of my fight or flight isn't living down the hallway anymore?

Cast Away (2000)

A FedEx executive undergoes a physical and emotional transformation after crash landing on a deserted island.

JayBell: There are so many things about this movie that I love. The first part of the movie shows how much Tom Hanks' character is on the go go go. He's all about efficiency and productivity. Everything is on a schedule, even his personal life. At the same time, he's also a bit of a romantic.

It takes a while to build up to the big crash, but it's great for character building and raising the anticipation. The plane crash scene has pretty good special effects, even by today's standards.

I'm a big fan of survival movies, so I do love watching Tom Hanks' character make mistakes, learn, face setbacks, overcome obstacles. Having Wilson as a way for his character to bond with another "person" is so smart. Although it is strange to be sad about a man's relationship with a volleyball, it's done so well. You really feel like Wilson is the only thing keeping his character sane.

Usually with movies like this, it ends when they get "rescued." I like that they show some of his character's adjustment back into society. (the seafood dinner with food carelessly leftover, the lighter, the too soft mattress, him guzzling water from a bottle).

I only have a few gripes about this movie. One, why are there zero animals or bugs on the island? Yes, there are fish. But nothing else at all? Even a small scene of him killing a bug or chasing off an animal would be cool.

And second, I do think his girlfriend moves on a bit too fast, especially without the closure of his recovered body. If you do some of the math, she basically "grieves" for like 6 months or so, and some of those months were spent still trying to find him. I agree that they shouldn't get back together in the end, but I my brain couldn't help but do the math at the same time.

But I do feel like the ending fits. Now, Tom Hanks' character isn't on a schedule, he doesn't have a plan, which is so different from how he treated life in the beginning of the movie. And I like how the angel artist lady is included throughout the movie before finally appearing at the end, as if it was "meant to be."

P.P.S. I couldn't help but notice as he drives in the final scenes of the movie, he has a brand new Wilson. What on earth is he planning to do? Create a new Wilson with a face and talk to it and carry it around in society? Use it for volleyball? Doesn't that seem disrespectful? idk

Anzie: As this is my second time writing this review bc obviously the universe hates me and disagrees with my opinion on this ammmazing movie, this will be scathing. I hated it I don’t even wanna be nice anymore. I thought it was funny how Tom Hanks was obsessed with time and then forced to be on an island where time really is an illusion. I like the start when he’s still running fedex (totally thought he was ups but whatever) and the plane crash was really well done for the time and then when he’s on the island I start getting peeved. Has this mannnnn ever seen Naked and Afraid. Where’s the fire- it took him so long. He should’ve been a Boy Scout. Uggg. And the knocking his own tooth out. I’m triggered. And loosing Wilson. Lame. He so could got him. This is like Jack and Rose all over again.

And now my reallllll problem. I will not ever be able to watch Helen Hunt again. Okkk. So this guy that gives you a ring the last time you saw him on Christmas right as he’s boarding a plane that will crash- is stuck on an island for 4 years. Ok - Her kid is 2 years old - it takes 9 months to make a baby- ok so we’re already back in time where there’s 1 year and 2 months when she could’ve been hung up over him- soooo in the year following his disappearance- say she waited a month or two for them to find him- okkk we’re at a year grieved another 2 months- quick but okkkkkk met his Root Canal Dentist- which wowwwww- had a wonderful romance so in like 8/10 months after he was missing- I’m sooo sorry she got over him being missing grieved and dated and married this guy would is literally her fiancé nemesis and had a kid wayyyyy to quick. I mean I do t think I ever did anything so quick in my life everrrr. And I still can’t look at Chris Noth. I’m done. For my sanity I have to be. None of the math makes sense to read but you get it. After 2 months??? I think I’ve been dedicated to listening to a song on repeat longer than that.

I am glad he had his little friend to come back to- and I did like the whole angel wings artist lady plot but that veers to unhealthy kinnnnnda???

Rating: I can’t- it had 4/10- but for my mental health now it’s a 2/10 Crabs 🦀

The Ambush (The Gap Years part 20)

Coconino National Forest, AZ

After three weeks on the road, Marin's luck runs out. They're on the run from an entire empire, remember?

The car lurches to a halt, and if Marin hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt, he might have died right there. Well, not really, but his chest is going to be bruised. He’s about to ask if there is a deer or something in the road when Sierra calls out a magical glow. Only humans can sense magic on instinct. He looks behind his seat to see a cord of light clinging to their rear bumper. It’s about 9am on State Route 87, a narrow road with scattered pine trees on either side. There isn’t a single other car in sight. In a human story, the lack of other cars would mean safety. Here, the isolation means that there’s no reason for elves to hold back. They’ve planned for this, but they haven’t practiced. It’s time for their first real ambush. 

Unable to escape, Brian spins the car right to put a human and automobile shield between Marin and their enemies. The cord of light ties back to absolutely nothing, but the nothingness shimmers a slightly tan white. Colored light combines to white. That’s basic magical theory. He calls to the humans that they’re fighting multiple opponents of equal power. Sierra jokes that they’re all nothing compared to the power of gun. The fact that she’s kind of right is part of how they got into this situation in the first place. Seven billion wild, fanatic, humans armed to the teeth is a threat to anyone with a brain. Marin casts a spell over the car. It’s mostly an illusion to hide their actions, but should protect the car as well. Then they move.  

Clay’s job is cover fire. He sweeps the hair away from his eyes and balances the concussion rifle on the windowsill. It’s difficult to keep up an illusion when you’re being shot at. Honestly, few elves outside of his family have the skill and the raw power to pull it off.  As magical weapons, concussion rifles are especially dangerous, because the only thing that can reliably stop them is a magical defense. The soldiers will have to choose invisibility, or risking broken bones at the hand of the human boy who already killed a noble. The invisibility spell flickers for a moment and then breaks completely once the soldiers realize it has started to crack. There are five of them in dark gray armor and featureless helmets on the side of the road. 

Brian kicks his door open and crouches behind the front of the car. It’s electric, and there isn’t really an engine there, but it’s something to hide behind while he shoots with a magical pistol. The weapon is Zerada’s orange now instead of his green. He can tell from the sparks that it’s set to stun. Clay’s gun isn’t. However, Brian is drawing more of the fire. Probably because he looks more dangerous. Brian is a stereotypical wild human. He’s big and muscular and the scar on his jaw makes him look like a soldier, even if Marin’s learned that he got it tripping down the stairs as a toddler. Marin slips out of the car as well, and Sierra passes behind him to take the driver’s seat. The Audacity is her creation. She’s better behind the wheel than swinging a baseball bat. 

Are there more soldiers behind them? Probably, elves traditionally fight in teams of nine, but maybe the soldiers looking for them are spread so thin that there isn’t a full squad. Marin looks over his shoulder at the other curb while he climbs onto the roof. When he was little, he wondered why Lazarus Sondaica, the first Apex and the founder of his genus, chose to master illusions while on campaign. He fought with a staff and a greatsword, so wouldn’t strength or speed or a ranged ability be a better skill? There may not be soldiers on the left side of the road, but if there are, they don't see him judge the distance, plant his quarterstaff into the ground, and vault across the pavement. Now he knows that Lazarus chose the signature of his line because illusions are real magic. The Mercurali and the Eight-Points who follow them have their tricks, but the only thing that can truly stop an illusionist is a more powerful one. With the rest of his family in custody and Arjuna probably retired, he’s about as powerful as there is. 

Marin lands as quietly as he can and swings his staff in a wide arc.  He’s testing to see where his opponents are, and holds a dagger in his left hand. A soldier appears, then a second, and Marin moves quickly to get behind his target. On the other side of the street, Zerada flies through the air and pounces like the fox that is the symbol of her family. The humans probably need more help than he does, but it still stings. She’s fast, and her skill with charms means that she’s hard to keep down. Marin remembers a thousand- really, they’ve been doing this for decades- sparring matches against her, and the way he would always lose focus at the end. She jokes that he just can’t bring himself to hurt his betrothed, but Marin knows there's magic at play.

It’s not too challenging to stay alive though. Marin just keeps hidden and stays moving. The faceless gray armor has weak points, and these are commoners he’s fighting. They may be more physically capable of fighting with a few flesh wounds than he or Zerada are, but they heal slower, and they aren’t afraid to run. His mother would talk about commoners some nights, when he was quiet and she’d had a long week with the High Council. She told him how they didn’t care so much about legacy, and that even the Voyagers, who built their culture around hurricanes and rocket ships, didn’t worship danger like they did. Marin was struck by her wording. He’s been training since he could walk, but did he revere it? Marin weaves between three skilled soldiers without even being scratched. He certainly isn’t this good at anything else. 

Marin manages the final soldier with a strike below an arm. His dagger is short and he angles the strike to be less damaging, but they’ll have to get medical attention quickly. He’d have loved to capture a soldier instead, but his tutors were always clear that mind control only delays problems instead of fixing them. They can get intel from Zerada’s allies to the northeast without holding someone captive. Besides, a gun set to stun would be more helpful than a dagger for taking prisoners. A conscious elf can always switch worlds, unless they’re within range of one of the Betrayed. After a final check of his surroundings, Marin lets his spell end and walks back to the car. He leans against the now-dented front and smiles at Zerada. Her twin daggers are soaked red. There’s a splash of blood on her chest as well. It’s not hers. He can recognize the consequences of a messy strike. 

“Is anyone hurt?” Marin asks, looking at Brian, who has a history of injuries. The human can take it though.

He runs a hand through his blond hair. “I could feel a few shots, but I’m alright”.

“You messed up the car though…” Sierra replies. 

“I needed something to hide behind! There isn’t an engine in the front anyway,”

She rests her head against the steering wheel and sighs.

“And one of you needs to charge this rifle once we get on the road,” Clay adds.

The gun’s emerald detailing is duller than it should be. He hates charging gadgets. It burns him out and takes hours, but it’s the only way for Clay to make himself useful in a fight. Marin opens the back left door, which swings upwards instead of out like most car doors, and moves to step inside. Then there is light behind him, and he turns to face it, and something shatters. It isn’t glass. The bone in his upper right arm bends and snaps. He roars like one of his family’s sabertooths before he even registers the pain.

“GET IN THE CAR!” Clay yells, lifting the rifle to aim behind Marin.. They’re all yelling, but he’s the only one saying words. 

Marin has always been the son of the Apex. He was never expected to wield the scepter, but his quarterstaff feels like part of him, and Lazarus knows he can fight. That’s why the prince is able to keep his footing, even as a shot from a concussion rifle strikes right below his shoulder with the force of a cannonball. The shock is white-hot and familiar. Marin throws himself into the car and lifts his head to see the ninth soldier backing away. Brian fires a shot, but the enemy has gone to the other world before it can connect. In eighty-six years, Marin has broken several bones. High nobility are fragile like that. He knows how the next few hours are going to go. 

The shock will last a few minutes. He’s filled with adrenaline (so much more than from that easy fight), and the world is tinted green from his glowing eyes. That’s part of how Marin knows it’s bad. Usually the mind filters that out. He’s in the middle back seat with Clay to his right and Zerada to his left. The boy pulls supplies out of his messenger bag. There’s fear in his brown eyes, but his hands are steady. Brian may look more like a warrior, but Clay is a far more dangerous human. 

“I’m going to splint this and then we’ll figure out our next steps,” he says, holding a roll of bandages. His dying gun is forgotten beside him.

Marin closes his eyes and tries to focus. His arm burns and he can feel something shift when he breathes, but he’s a nobleman. He controls his body, not the other way around. Marin focuses on the break in his arm. Clay’s hands are cool, and he distantly realizes that he has begun to cry, but he needs to look deeper. The bone has broken into three pieces. One has shifted to nearly block an artery. He lets his magic coil around the break.

“Zerada better still have allies where we're going. You need more than my first-aid. An x-ray, at least”.

“The bone is in three pieces. I can hold them together, but it will take some of my magic,” Marin explains calmly. 

“Three pieces… that’s a segmental break. You need surgery,”

Zerada shuts him down. “He has magic. High nobility heal quickly. And I will have allies. Genus Adust is huge. They can’t have killed or captured everyone. It would look bad”. 

No one talks for a long time. 

“Normally people are in a lot more distress about a break this bad,” Clay says.

“I’m a prince, Clay. Pain is just your body giving a warning”. He remembers training with his mother. The scepter of his genus isn’t gold or bronze or any metal that existed outside of Lazarus’s void-cursed dreams, but it is dense and heavy. He flexes his left hand and thinks of proper form, and how long it took to learn. 

“How did you learn this anyway? I’d thought that the powerful human families were…” the first word that comes to mind is unfit. Unfit to rule, and maybe even unfit to live. Survival of the fittest. A proper plague will decrease the human population, but unless Ishtar has some tricks up her sleeve, the richest humans will fare better than the subjects they want. He finds a better word. “Soft”. 

“Some of the other kids I climb with taught me. Sometimes someone falls”. Clay narrows his eyes. “Calling an ambulance is a great way to get caught somewhere you shouldn’t be. They’re expensive too. That’s not an issue for me, obviously, but it is for them. And I can only throw so much of my father’s money at issues that are a whole lot bigger than us”. 

“You want to be a doctor?” 

“Whatever helps people when and where they need it.” 

“Well then you’re off to a great start,” Sierra adds.

“I was thinking more about general medicine at a lower cost, and less being a field medic for an elf prince with hollow bones”. 

His bones are not hollow. 

Brian scoffs. “Oh please. We’re off on an adventure. Try to enjoy it!” 

The humans don’t have all the details, but they certainly have found themselves on an adventure. Shooting soldiers, defending the last free heir to the throne, driving across their country just before it changes forever… they’re in a legend, really. 

But his injury is worse than he’s letting on. It’s going to take a lot of focus and magic to hold his humerus together, and his illusions have been their strongest asset this whole time. Still, Marin lets himself imagine a world where they win. One where they rescue Zerada’s brother and all of his cousins, and prove his grandparents’s lineage wasn’t a waste after all. He’d retake the throne with Zerada by his side and create a new age, and he wouldn’t even have to go mad within the void to do it. With the elven world revealed, Sierra would have all the elven tech she wanted. Brian would love the thrill of noble courts, (seriously, Zerada is a lot)  and Clay could finally fix the systems he hates instead of just kicking at the edges. 

Zerada told him a few nights ago that the humans all took a gap year because there was something they couldn’t face about the rest of their lives. It wasn’t just a joyride like what she planned. Well, win or lose, if they unite the realms or die trying, the humans will never have to face the world they grew up in. They get to matter, and they have hope. It’s not a gift equal to saving his life back in San Fransisco, but it’s the best he can offer from this deep in the woods.
