I love this storyline

Doom became POTUS and abducted Miguel, who is now practically being forced into two jobs as both Miguel and Spider-Man, Conchata almost killed Tyler Stone who is in critical condition, Dana has left Miguel for Tyler, Gabriel and Kasey are on the outs because he isn't Spider-Man....

And we still get panel where, when trying to contact Xina to let her know he's ok (since the last time she saw him he was being flown off by Doom's men) Lyla decides to project herself with Miguel's head because she knows what humor is now and is making everyone else's problem.

Spider-Man 2099

okay, so I barely post here anymore since tumblr is broken as fuck BUT

I read the Spider-Man 2099 omnibus vol 1 (didn't watch the Spiderverse movie since I fucking despise the concept of the Spiderverse. Simple as) and I have to talk about Dana.

Dana might truly be the most crap (female) character in the book. I couldn't get over how little she had going for her. Nearer the end I was making a mental list of women who'd work better as Miguel's love interest lmao (Xina, ofc; Jennifer - the sister is better; Kasey could've been a complicated and therefore interesting matter). I get the idea that she's sort of the suitable corporate wife for Miguel at the start of the series, when he's still Tyler's boy and should walk in his footsteps. But that message gets muddled imho when she doesn't grow any way - either as a true vapid stooge or someone who has more going for her than that.

It also doesn't work when you learn that Tyler had an affair with Conchata. There's a lot of ways to look at that relationship (why did it happen? Was there brief love there from her end? Was it just business), but considering Tyler probably had Kron when they were together, but seemed to already not be content with that, it seems absurd he would look at Dana, someone who was a perfect Alchemax poster girl, and think she could work for Miguel OR himself, when his relationship with Conchata must've had an element of "you are a more worthy woman for me, suitable to carry me a strong child I can rear as my heir". No shot he ever looked at Dana and thought the same thing. Crying over her and telling Conchata "I really loved the girl" my ass. The latter I can take as his usual bullshit, but the former is on the same tier as Doom crying over 9/11.

Also, how the fuck did Dana look at the conflict between Miguel and George O'Hara and go "oh, Miggy actually deep down cares for his dad and him crying at the funeral is proof of that". Girl, GIRL!!! Have some sense, I am begging you. You SAW how terrible it was between them, you saw how George baited him and how Miguel drew back, still afraid to do anything that would confirm he's his (step)father's son. And all you got out of it was THIS??? All the brains in the family went to Jennifer, it's insane.

Miguel was in the wrong to cheat on Xina, this is a fact. In a story sense it adds drama, it puts these old childhood friends who'd grown into lovers in a terrible place where they had to learn how to both apologize and forgive. But Miguel, baby. With Dana?

There were other things, but I had to get this out. Dana was infuriating.

Does he find out that Miguel is tyler’s son and that they're only half brothers or not? And if he does is it the same way Miguel finds out? Going to ty’s place with the intention of scaring the loving shit out of him only for him to find out the truth or is it another way that he finds out?

I can imagine Gabriel going to miguel’s place after finding out and just talking with himself like “how do I tell him- can I tell him- SHOULD I tell him??? Ignorance is a bliss they say”

Huhuhu I actually know exactly how this one goes.

This happens during the year and a half or so that Miguel is "dead".

Gabriel never gets the urge to murder Tyler Stone that Miguel does. So he doesn't ever go to his house to overhear anything.

But by a sheet coincidence that is Comic Books, the Prowler does. And on the same night Conchata goes as well, probably to dress Tyler down about Kasey, because even if Spider-Man keeps rescuing her, it's hard on Gabriel and Conchata knows something is up with him, even if she doesn't know what.

It basically plays out as it does in the comic, (although with more "you killed your own son" because nobody knows what really happened) but after Conchata leaves ... Miguel stays. He cuts off all communication devices to the house, leaves the guards and servants webbed up and paralyzed and goes to see Tyler directly. And takes his mask off.

There's probably some kind of big long dialogue here, I don't know but it ends with:

"I'm your father."

"Your son is dead."

And the rumor the next day is that there was a horrible accident involving a cyborg-tiger or something, because what in the world else could have done that to a person?

At least, that's the uptown rumor - official word is the Prowler isn't real. Downtown knows differently.

When Gabriel finds out what happened, he knows it was the Prowler too and goes to confront him. Not because he's upset about Tyler, obviously, or even about the fact the Prowler killed committed murder. He's mad because Tyler should have been his. He should have been the one to kill Tyler Stone, he owed it to his brother to avenge his death and now he never will.

For anyone who has read the 2099 comics, the implications of Miguel having children is TERRIFYING.

For anyone who DOESN’T know (SPOILER ALERT):

So: Miguel is the illegitimate child of the Alchemax CEO Tyler Stone who is the main antagonist of his series and his mother Conchata O’Hara, who was married to some guy whose name I don’t remember right now.

It was an affair from both their sides and everyone but Mr. O’Hara knew it. Stone’s wife and Conchata were friends even. Before Tyler Stone fucking murdered her, that is (his wife).

So, Miguel grew up thinking he was his mother’s and her husbands full biological son. He got his “Luke I’m your father” moment because he overheard his mom telling Stone NOT to tell Miguel the truth. Fun stuff. At least he took the time to deal with that bombshell on his own and got to clapback on Stone.

So from his mom’s side of the family he has this younger half-brother Gabriel. Family situation was EXTREMELY FUCKING BAD and not because of the cheating but because Mr. O’Hara was an abusive fuck who beat his wife and kids. Oh, and he was working at Alchemax, so he saw his genium STEM-field son Miguel as his ticket to a promotion. Not too many details given here but Miguel hadd this elaborate revenge plan to have the man live long enough to suffer from ALL the organ failures and face the humiliation of being utterly helpless at the old age and when the dude died too soon he cried because that got ruined.

Not that Conchata is a saint. Other than the whole cheating thing (I should mention here that she hates Stone’s guts for what he did to his wife), she’s also introduced being locked in a psych yard for unspecified reasons, having an also unspecified criminal past (enough to know how to get away with murder and being ready to commit it), and a drinking and smoking problem. She was also heavily favouriting Gabriel and the cost of Miguel.

So... now you may wonder what Miguel’s problem with Gabriel is! Enter the love triangles. Or rather, the dodecahedrons.

Short version: Gabriel was engaged to Dana and Miguel was engaged to Xina. Then Miguel and Dana met, fell in love at first sight and started cheating on their fiances. The previous engagements broke off and Miguel and Dana got engaged. There are still feeling flying around in all directions but at least Gabriel and Dana are still good friends and know how to communicate. Gabriel also has a new girlfriend Kasey. She becomes important. Xina is single and still wants Miguel.

So, Miggy stole Gabi’s fiancee and that’s pretty bad, right? At least they got a decent ending? WELL IT DOESN’T END THERE.

After Miguel entered Spider-Man mode, Kasey fell in love with Spider-Man and dumped Gabriel, but then she got the idea that Gabriel was Spider-Man and got back together with him. Problem, Gabriel knows that his brother is Spider-Man and while he knows Miguel isn’t responsible for his relationship troubles intellectually, dude already stole his old fiancee once so there’s some resentment here.

And speaking of Dana...

Again because of the Spider-Man thing and the typical relationship troubles that come with it, Dana starts emotionally cheating on Miguel with Tyler Stone. Yes, Miguel’s bio-dad. No, she doesn’t know.

“Wow, that’s nasty” you may say. Well it didn’t stay nasty for long because Dana got killed in a shoutout against Venom.

Who is Venom you may ask? Why, Tyler Stone’s legitimate child, of course!

Kron Stone is a right psychopath and half the reason why the Punisher exists in this verse. Kid tried to commit murder several times since he was a kid. Kill Miguel in particular because Alchemax has a private school for the children of the employees. Fun stuff.

And then Miguel gets sent back in time because of Superior Spider-Man. Enter the new GF and by far his most healthy relationship by far, Tempest Monroe. Lots of drama here too but it was mostly their parents screwing over her and Miggy instead of them having issues with each other. Btw, Tempest also got pregnant with Gabriel O’Hara junior and I won’t get into spoilers but eventual happy ending.

“But I heard Miguel married Xina?” Yeah, well, that’s in one continuity. Peter David tends to ignore that particular bit because of some behind the scenes chaos (and he didn’t write that part).

Anyway, if any part of this backstory applies in the new movie, then I’m extremely worried for everyone involved with Miguel.

Kairi, I have been curious and confused for a while.

I seen/skimmed through some fics with Miguel O’Hara’s family being involved and I know his brother, Gabriel seems to be a literal sunshine with some issues. His parents on the other hand, I read somewhere they aren’t the best role models.

I could be wrong about everything, but I want to learn about his family history since maybe in the future I would also write them in my work for plot reasons.

hello ☃️ anon :DD okay, so it was explained in the younger miguel o'hara parts of the comics that he and gabriel didn't have the best family life. their parents were, yes, not the best role models–when they fought, miguel would always protect gabriel. his parents weren't the best, and oh, spoiler !!

miguel's father isn't even george o'hara (gabri's dad) it's his boss (tyler stone) who he FUCKING HATES. he met him face to face back then and happened upon him a lot when he was testifying against tyler's son, kron (who's his half brother), for his bullying towards miguel and attempted murder in the locker rooms

miguel only finds this out when he spies on his mom and tyler stone talking, and then his whole world crumbles when he discovers tyler's his dad

bonus: it was also stated in the comic that bc kron hates miguel's guts and gabri hates spider man (bc kasey, his gf then, was only with gabri bc she thought he was spider man and kept telling her that wasn't the case-y even though it FUCKING WAS) when you put the two two of them together, it's like miguel has a whole brother who hates every bit of him
