Tatiana Maslany speaks out for Palestine during her Canada's Walk of Fame acceptance speech in her hometown Regina on June 26 2024.
We are witnessing the genocide of the Palestinian people at the hands of the Israeli settler-colonial state, and we watch and we do nothing. And I would say with whatever platform I have that we can't do nothing and I would demand that our government demand a ceasefire, stop funding the genocide, stop being complicit in it... Free Palestine!
Dex: *breaks into the registery files aka supposedly the one of the highest security databases in the whole world and while he’s doing it breaks into all the other intelligent species networks as well. Supposedly manifests at twelve but he says he’s always been good with gadgets so he probably manifested before that. Manages to restrict the abilities of a literal super elf who was ‘made’ by some on the smartest elves and gnomes to ever exist (they spent years ‘making’ her by the way.) does this all before he turns 14*
litterally everyone in the series: yeah that seems normal
Nerdy thoughts about characters and the world in the au under the cut (Slight spoilers for plot of both BSD and Reverse:1999 I guess?)
ok ok so:
Dazai is the Time Keeper and works at the St. Pavlov Foundation. The ADA would basically be the small branch of the Foundation that Vertin oversees in the actual story. To that end, I can snag a couple character rolls for the BSD characters.
Dazai is Vertin, obviously. He was just as rebellious as a kid as she was, and made friends with the outside world (Oda) only to watch them die to the storm. So now the Foundation makes him go to the different time periods and collect data on why he and his suitcase are immune. Since I know Vertin is like 16 in the game, I thought I should age everyone down just slightly to fit that teenagers-doing-dangerous-things-that-should-be-left-to-adults vibe, so now he is 18 when he finds Atsushi, who is 14.
Kunikida would probably play a Sonnetto role, being the studious type who tries to follow all the rules and make sure the Time Keeper stays on track.
Yosano would probably be best suited as a Doctor in the Foundation but is saved strictly for the ADA’s branch. Probably a Medicine Pocket type of character? I actually have a draft of her where I take heavy inspiration from X’s butterfly scarf thing because thematically I think it’s perfect. I don’t know if she would exactly fit Mesmer Jr.’s role, since it includes a betrayal against Vertin along with Dubious medical practices within her family. Although the dubious medical practices thing could fit well, I don’t think the betrayal really suits her character in that regard.
Ranpo wouldn’t be an arcanist, but we have actual human characters in the story who are playable (like Ezra is human I believe), so he could use his deduction skills that way. They’d probably try to keep him away from the front lines when possible, so as not to risk him if the storm appears.
Thematically, Atsushi would be Regulus, since she’s the first to be found by Vertin in the actual story. Otherwise, Atsushi would be completely different in terms of backstory. It’s hard to tell in these sketches, but I tried to give him a coat similar to Regulus but not recognizable as such. He’d be a Beast Aflatus, obviously. Arcanists are very much discriminated against in the actual story, so that would fit really well with him. I figured Atsushi could be immune to the storm too, since his tiger has the power to cut through abilities, similar to how Dazai can nullify them.
Ango would be Madam Z, because of his strenuous relationship with the Time Keeper due to past betrayals, and his want to keep the Time Keeper out of harms way. Mori could be his direct supervisor for a time, and Ango can be complicit in the “trap” made for Dazai to get him to be more agreeable. He’d help reduce the influence the Foundation has on the Time Keeper’s decisions. Fukuzawa could be good for this role of “overlooking the team” as well.
As for the Foundation itself, I think it would be a mix of the government and the port mafia, while having Manus Vindictae be the Decay of Angels/Rats (Fyodor would make a really good villain in that regard). Although it’s hard to picture some of the port mafia members working at the Foundation, I can still pick and choose who goes where.
Every other character probably wouldn’t have a direct comparison, but that’s what I have so far. This is probably WAY easier to follow if you know the plot of Reverse: 1999 but I’ll come up with a more comprehensive doc later.
It's been really interesting to see so many people wanting Jensi to manifest in book 10, but I personally DON'T want that to happen. It would be so much more impactful if instead...he became okay with being talentless. Because all of those feelings of inadequacy he has been feeling? Those are cool. Those have impact.
But those emotions aren't going to have an impact anymore if Jensi manifests.
Instead of being an actual character arch of overcoming harmful personal and societal norms and expectations will just turn into a "phew, that was close!" moment once he manifests.
Without manifesting, he as a character can achieve what Sophie can't actually do. He can PROVE that those without talents shouldn't feel shame. He can PROVE that he and other talentless are just as much as a elf as a Vacker. Sophie can talk all she wants about unfairness and blah blah blah, but her words cannot carry the same weight as Jensi's would.
So I was thinking about the whole elves-being-naturally-prettier-than-humans thing because that was always sort of weird to me when I FINALLY think I figured it out.
Humans used to know about the elves, and there are some things they still remember—hence myths about Atlantis and such. Reality is, humans and elves resembled each other in a lot of ways, but elves put themselves on a pedestal as better than every other species (that’s, like, canon, and better be addressed more fully at some point?) and that’s probably a part of the reasons humans “betrayed” the elves—they got sick of hearing that elves were better.
But it was just sort of implanted in their minds, though they weren’t fans of the idea, and elves didn’t go to great lengths to erase that idea from their minds. So humans remember myths and some things about elves, and Atlantis being the underwater city………and beauty standards.
It’s not that elves are naturally prettier than humans. It’s that human beauty standards are shaped around the natural looks of elves.
This damn comic is fucking A N C I E N T but as far as like, the content of it- not necessarily the art because I always hate my older art, but the presentation, what is objectively here- still feels right to me, so I'm sharing it. again
transfem keefe choosing her new legal name would either end in her taking the last name of someone special to her and it being a really profound moment or her registry file going from “Keefe [I’M NOT YOUR LEGACY BOY] Sencen” to “Keefe Leaf Reef” or something else that rhymes all the way across for the bit (with some comment about how she was sad to let go “not your legacy boy”).
she could also just keep “[I’M NOT YOUR LEGACY BOY]” for the bit too
My favorite part of the anime messing up the timeline is that it imply that Akane just doesn’t give a single fuck about nene in the slightest and Hanako doesn’t give a fuck about his job as leader of the 7 mysteries like in the manga it’s established here that Akane is aware of Hanako in the weird hair style even with his glasses
The same scene happens in the anime but with out the clock keeper arc and thus the following scene with Nene and Akane in home economics
So like the implication is that Akane saw this random ass ghost just absolutely harassing this classmate who he’s like mutual friends with (like in the since they there both besties with Aoi) and just was like welp ok then I’m not gonna address that.
He even talks to Nene later in the episode and is just like “yea Aois the best I’d rather die than not have Aoi” (which looking back is also wild) like I get Aois in that scene to so he can’t go “why you being harassed by the ghost my grandpa says is slimy” but still he really just went yea ima ignore that
ALSO on the opposite side of the coin Hanako:
He’s also clearly shown to be able to sense Akanes magic and stuff. SO HANAKO IS ALSO BULLLSHITTING HERE. Bro also went: lol I sense a school mystery ima ignore that. It’s not like that could be like important or anything lololol.
Anyway the anime version of this scene is basically Hanako and Akane going: yea that seems like something I can ignore and not address fr fr
In conclusion, just like maybe dont mess up the timeline of manga in the anime?????
Surely someone must have written the Everlark Gilmore Girls AU right? Because like -
Fiercely independent single mother Katniss Everdeen raising her sweet, intelligent daughter Prim (who is so close in age they’re practically sisters), and friends with the bakery/café owner Peeta who keeps her fed in cheese buns and bread, and sees her everyday while quietly and patiently pining.
FT: Best friend Madge who Katniss later opens a business with. Grumpy town eccentric Haymitch. Flamboyant dance studio owner and gossip Effie. Prim's best friend Rue who Katniss also ends up mothering because that's who she is. Estranged mother Mrs Everdeen who Katniss felt abandoned by but adores Prim. Local fashion designer Cinna who took Katniss in when she first arrived.
And then Prim’s father and Katniss’s teenage sweetheart Gale comes back around periodically wanting another chance but doesn’t realise they’ve changed too much to ever be together.
You know those dairies with a heart shaped lock that were everywhere in elementary book fairs? Those are the Secret Life task books to me. Each player has a key that only works on their lock and it’ll only open when they have an active task or a new one to complete
Ok but I haven't seen anyone talk about the fact that Scar, while processing that he won and it was all over, let a random Zombie get him down to an inch of his life before seemingly deciding to actually hand his task in instead of letting himself die just yet. In his POV he kept glancing at the zombie and back to where he thought Pearl to still have been alive moments prior, making no effort to fight it as if to say "it's okay for me to die here, then?"
And if we go with the idea that he is stuck in a loop of handing in his task only to get the task to win again, imagine that as he remains on half a heart eternally. Where's the fan content for THAT
(If there is any and I just missed it please let me know!!)
ft the fact that i plan on having a combination of rick's design of olympus & everything being in ny, but also keeping the mythology with its people (tho that's a bit nebulous, but whatever)-
aka camp half-blood stays in long island, yeah
camp jupiter? - still in california
but also: the world trade centre holds an entrance to olympus which is still on mt. olympus and the people do not need to leave their home continents to go to a safe place- olympus is still on olympus, the mountain, rome is still rome, etc- it's just the gods are no longer restricted, they are everywhere-
also kinda just like. rick did this for the egyptians and the norse??? why couldn't the greeks and the polytheistic romans (as compared to the christian/catholic romans) have multiple places of existence???
like. i'm also getting rid of the place-specific things, like álfheimr (alfheim) and niðavellir (nidavellir) not resembling boston and shit but also valhǫll (valhalla) and ásgarðr (asgard) being. like where they were modelled after in norse mythology-
also bye-bye bifrost bc that Did Not exist b4 like snorri sturluson-
actual norse mythology is super interesting, like immensely so-
rick did freyr & freyja so dirty- like, yeah, odin and thor were important, but. uhhhh ppl worshipped freyr & freyja as MUCH bc they were the FARMING gods and important
i feel like this post does a bit to establish my love for sociology, psychology, and anthropology- i love learning abt ppl it's amazing-
