Monopoly

Prompt: “The future of the world is in your hands.”

“The future of the world is in your hands.”

Kerwin raised one eyebrow, accentuating the shaved line in the middle. He sat criss-cross at the bunker’s war table, surrounded by the other members of The Boys. Frenchie was already bankrupt, having thrown the game to go spend time with Kimiko. And Butcher was in jail for the millionth time because he never followed the rules. It came down to Hughie and Kerwin, the Monopoly champions. 

Milk was the banker, holding the little ziplock bag with the cheap green house figurines, “Kerwin. Make your choice.”

Butcher scoffed, grumbling in his barely distinguishable British accent, “S’ just Monopoly, mate. Now would you bankrupt the kid already, or we’ll be here all week.”

Hughie and Kerwin were infamous for leaving the Monopoly board up for weeks on end, the game never quite reaching a conclusion with those two. And it’s safe to say, Butcher wanted his table space back.

If Kerwin bought and placed those houses, Hughie was cooked.

“Kerwin,” Hughie interjected. “If you let me win I’ll… I’ll, uh… I’ll get Annie to hook you up with The Deep.”

“Playing dirty,” Butcher whistled. Milk rolled his eyes, ready to be done with this infernal board game.

Now, Annie hated The Deep. Haateeddd. She wouldn’t talk to him for a millisecond, even if Hughie was the one asking. The logical part of Kerwin’s brain recognized this flaw in Hughie’s ultimatum. But the part of him that had a hopeless crush on the aquatic superhero wasn’t going to listen to reason.

“I fold,” Kerwin announced quickly, as if they were playing Poker rather than a childrens’ board game. A collective groan came from the men, save for Hughie whoop of excitement.

“Don’t know what you see in that twat,” Butcher grumbled, taking an obnoxiously long swig of beer.

“He’s a sensitive soul,” Kerwin batted his blonde lashes dramatically, shoving all his cards, money, and pieces towards Milk.

Milk begrudgingly put away Kerwin’s pieces for him, “Hope you like being the smart one in a relationship. Deep’s brain is smoother than a marble. ‘Bout that size, too.”

Kerwin mumbled what sounded like ‘shut up’ before grabbing his phone and running upstairs to call Annie to ask what kind of style Deep seemed to like. He had a date to plan.

Bunker Things #1

Today, Kerwin tried to make British scones. They tasted alright but ended up thick and doughy. Butcher was so offended by how bad they looked he threw them away and sat Kerwin down to make new ones.

While Butcher bitched and moaned about how "you cunts can't even cook right", Kerwin had a huge grin on his face.

He knows exactly how to make scones. He just wanted Butcher to hang out with him.
