Prompt: “can you do a Kevin Price x reader where everyone teases Kevin that he loves the reader but he denies it (but he does) and eventually the reader asks him to watch a movie with her and he randomly kisses her which ends up being a makeout session”

Kevin watched as you let the door shut behind you, walking back to your own house. He was unaware of the small smile that had found its way onto his face, still looking at the door long after you had left.

“Oh boy, Elder.” A laugh sounded from behind Kevin, Connor pausing before continuing on, “You really have it bad for her, don’t you?”

“W-what?” Kevin shook his head as if to rid himself of thoughts of you, turning to face Connor. “No, no - I only have, uh, platonic, feelings for Y/N. Nothing more, nothing less. You could even call us acquaintances.” He stammered and stumbled over his words; perhaps talking fast would convince everyone around him of his lack of feelings.

“Uh huh.” Connor raised an eyebrow in response, evidently not believing a word that came out of Kevin’s mouth. “I bet if we asked anyone - and I mean anyone, Kevin - about the way you react around Y/N they’d tell you it was love.”

“They would not!” The indignant defense all but confirmed it for Connor; the boy was head over heels for her.

“Whatever you say, Kevin. Whatever you say.” A look of pity had found its way onto Connor’s face and he shook his head as he walked away, leaving Kevin alone to deal with his conflicting thoughts.

Kevin had never really understood his own feelings, especially his feelings in regard to you - first he thought they were purely platonic, a thought he insistently defended. But as you spent more time together, and even through the briefest of interactions, he grew more and more fond of you. Whether it was your laugh, the sparkle in your eyes or the ease with which you held a conversation, there was absolutely no denying it: he was in love with you.

Love. It was a scary thing. Kevin hadn’t been in love before, or at least he couldn’t remember ever being in love before. But the unknown feeling he had in the pit of his stomach every time he looked at you must’ve been love. There was no other explanation for it - for the butterflies in his stomach, for the thoughts of you that kept him up at night, for the way his attention was immediately drawn to you every time the two of you were in the same room.

“Something wrong, buddy?” Arnold’s soft voice sounded from behind Kevin and a hand found its way to rest on his shoulder.

“Maybe.” Kevin gave a defeated sigh, slightly folding in on himself as he turned his face towards Arnold. “It’s just-”

“Matters of the heart, huh?” Arnold nodded understandingly, as if he had abundant experience in such matters. “Is it... You know... Y/N again?”

“Y/N! Again?” Kevin laughed nervously, running a hand through his hair. Glancing around to ensure Arnold was the only one within earshot, Kevin dropped his voice to a whisper, asking, “Is it really that obvious?”

“‘Fraid so.” As soon as the words came out of Arnold’s mouth the handle of the door turned and you walked back into the room, evidently having left something behind. “Good luck, bud.” Arnold whispered into Kevin’s ears before attempting hasty exit, leaving the two of you alone.

“Um, hi, Y/N.” With a weak wave Kevin greeted you, internally cursing himself for his awkwardness - it seemed as though you acted as a repellent for any logical thought he attempted.

“Kevin! Just the man I wanted to see,” You smiled wide and Kevin’s eyes flickered down to your lips, tentatively licking his own. Picking up the jacket you had left draped over the back of the couch you took two steps closer to Kevin. “Do you wanna maybe come over to my place tonight? Like, to watch a movie or something? I’ve got some Disney movies I want to re-watch but not alone, so I thought to myself, ‘who’d want to watch these with me’ and you came to mind -”

“Yes.” Kevin thankfully cut off your rambling with a shy smile. “I’d love - uh, like, that a lot.”

“Great!” You felt your face flush as you watched Kevin’s eyes roam around your face, more often than not landing on your lips. “Well, I’ll see you soon?” Phrasing it as a question you crossed your arms and looked up at Kevin, awaiting an answer.

“How about I grab my stuff now and come with you?” It took everything in Kevin’s power to prevent himself from hitting his own face - your eyebrows had shot up at his statement, evidently because he came on too strong and probably scared you off. “I mean, if that’s alright and all...” Nice. Very obvious back peddling. Kevin cringed slightly, the skin of his forehead crinkling in embarrassment.

“Of course it is, Kevin!” Getting over your initial shock on how forward Kevin was you relaxed your face into a smile, a light blush dusting your cheeks. With a slight nod in your direction Kevin all but ran off in the direction of his room, rushing to collect the things he deemed necessary - his wallet, keys, phone - and shoved them into a backpack.

He reappeared in your line of vision, droplets of sweat beading along his hairline and a rosy glow to his cheeks. “Let’s get going then,” You smiled, continuing to do so as the two of you made your way out of the Elder’s accommodation and towards your own.

Kevin blushed just thinking about being alone with you, something he had never experienced before; at least three others were always in the same room as you both. Perhaps this was the chance he had to finally make a move, or at least tell you how he felt - how he had felt for the longest time. He followed you into your lounge room, placing his bag gingerly against the couch that stood facing the television.

“Is The Little Mermaid okay? It’s one of my favourites,” Your statement hung in the air between you and Kevin; somehow despite being able to talk for hours whilst surrounded by others, alone it seemed you were complete strangers.

“S-sure.” With an awkward, jerky movement Kevin nodded and you began to play the movie, sitting a respectable distance away from where Kevin was seated. But that didn’t last very long, as within about ten minutes both of you had readjusted your sitting positions, shifting closer to the middle until you were separated only by a distance wide enough for Kevin’s hand to rest.

The first part of the movie passed without incident, Kevin apparently awaiting the perfect moment to turn to you and -

And you don’t know why but you’re dying to try, you wanna kiss the girl.

Kevin gulped as he snuck a glance your way; you were completely engrossed in the movie, despite having seen it numerous times before. His cheeks turned red as the song played on, strangely mirroring the voice of his own internal monologue.

Looks like the boy too shy, ain’t gonna kiss the girl. Ain’t that sad? Ain’t it a shame? Too bad, he gonna miss the girl.

The singing, animated crab was right: if Kevin didn’t grab your attention in someway he would lose his chance - it was now or never.

Boy, you better do it soon, no time will be better.

“Hey, Y/N?” You turned your head to face Kevin, who had managed to grab your attention. Opening your mouth to reply you froze in shock as you felt Kevin press his lips hard against yours, having misjudged the force needed to carry him to you. You didn’t respond, initially unable to even comprehend the quick succession of events.

Sensing your hesitation, Kevin pulled back, a look of confusion on his face as he began to mutter out an apology. “Y/N, I’m sorry, I - I don’t know what came over me-”

To prevent his rambling from continuing, you mustered up the courage to press your own lips to his, shifting closer to him on the couch. He gasped and his eyes fluttered shut as he felt your lips press once more against his. Your hands had travelled up his body with a feather-light touch, resting in his hair and tugging slightly.

Kevin was nervous - you could tell from the way his hands shook against you, as if touching you in any way would make you stop; or worse, could hurt you. But his hands came to lay on your waist, the both of you turning to face one another whilst still sitting on the couch.

Tracing the curve of your body one of Kevin’s hands moved up to tip your jaw slightly further up, giving him more access to your lips as they parted. It seemed as though your lips were made for one another, moving together in harmony as your tongues explored each other’s mouths. You let out an involuntary moan as Kevin pressed himself flush against you, his kiss evidently becoming both more needy and passionate.

A knock sounded throughout your small house, the only noise able to draw you away from Kevin. “Excuse me a second,” You laugh, panting slightly as you stood up and walked to the door, a giddy smile remaining in place on your face.

“Hello?” You opened the door to a smiling face - Connor’s smiling face. Without realising, your face was still flushed, lips swollen slightly and hair mussed; all tell-tale signs of the deed you had just partaken in.

“Oh, Y/N, um, I needed to ask Kevin a question, but, uh, I see the two of you are... busy... So I’ll just leave you to it.” After raking his eyes over your appearance Connor’s cheeks were coloured with red, having understood the reason behind them. He promptly turned on his heel without waiting for you to respond, leaving you befuddled in the doorway.

“So I guess Connor knows now,” You stated simply, sitting back down on the couch, this time with your thigh pressed against Kevin’s.

“I’m sorry,” He replied, gently placing his hand on the top of your knee. You rested your head against his chest, falling into a calming rhythm together.

Breaking the comfortable silence, Kevin said, “I - I’ve always wanted to find and tell someone, ‘You deserve to be in an art museum because of how beautiful you are.’ And I think I found that person in you, Y/N.” Taking in a deep breath he continued, “I think I might actually love you.”

You gasped at his words and turned your head up, watching a blush spread across his face. Studying the way his eyes lit up by simply seeing your face and being in your presence you couldn’t help but smile. “And I think I love you too, Kevin.”

He laughed as he pressed a chaste kiss to your temple, wrapping an arm protectively around you. You moved in closer and placed a flat palm to brace yourself on his chest; the rhythm of his breathing and the feeling of happiness filling you quickly putting you to sleep.

🔥 If you request a character that is quite young in the fandom, I will typically age them up to at least the age of a young teen or young adult (12-20) for a dating/romantic X-Reader (if it’s for a platonic or familial X-Reader they can be their canon age). Though how far I age them up depends on what “activities” they are doing. Some examples being if you ask for when they first grow crushes on each other I would probably keep them their canon age or just a tiny bit older. For a soft first kiss scenario I’ll age them up from 12-15. Or if you want something like a make out session, they will be aged up around 16 or older. And of course, for anything NSFW related they will aged up to 18+. The only exception to this rule is if you specifically ask for them to be older than their canon age to fit your story as long as it is fit their actions.

Guardians’ Halloween

Okay, so there is very little actual trick or treating in this, but I’m pleased with the way it turned out :)

First time writing a fic that isn’t reader insert or features an OC, wish me luck, but I didn’t think this would work with another character to add to the mix

Ever since Peter had explained what Halloween was, the rest of the Guardians had become intrigued. In particular, Groot had gotten very excited over the whole idea. And Rocket hadn’t been terribly hard to convince get in on it. In fact, the only person who had needed a little extra convincing was Gamora, but once Rocket pointed out that a surprise Halloween party would make Peter really happy, she had to get involved.

Somehow, Rocket arranged it with Yondu, that Peter would be kept busy all day, while the other Guardians set their plan into action. Since everything that had happened with Ego, Yondu had been accepted back amongst the Ravagers, making the Ravagers as a whole, new friends allies of the Guardians - meaning that they were getting forced to take part too.

It was late by the time everything was sorted, but it looked sooo good. The decorations were up round the Milano, all skulls and bones and scary masks with ghosts and and ghouls and made up monsters. Everyone had their costume on, even Drax who still wasn’t 100% sure of the entire event. There was so much food, drinks, sweets and cakes, on the Milano and all of the Ravager ships too.

They had found a suitable location to land all the ships, using them to form a circle. The Ravagers had been told to dress up too - which, in fairness they had, but no Ravager had a costume as such, so they were all wearing either the only good clothes they owned, or undercover outfits - at least they all did dress up. They all did take part. In the centre of the circle of ships, they had set up dozens and dozens of tables, all with more food and drink. And because the Ravagers had taken care of that, there was a lot of drink. They had had no problem getting involved, once Rocket had explained that it was a surprise for Peter - and seeing as Peter was more or less Yondu’s kid, and Yondu was in on the whole thing, Stakar and the other captains took it as an opportunity to try to make things up to Yondu.

On the Milano, the Guardians received a message from Yondu saying that they were on their way back.

‘Everything ready?” Rocket called, a mischievous grin on his face. His costume was a ninja - ever since he’d been told about ninjas, Rocket had loved them. He was dressed all in black - he’d managed to get a hold of black boots from somewhere, but he’d struggled to find a mask, so he’d wrapped a long length of black fabric around his head and made it work. He looked pretty damn good.

“Everything’s been ready for the last hour, Rocket” Gamora answered - she was slowly getting impatient, waiting for her boyfriend to return to get this whole thing underway. She had found a mask a few days ago, at a market place, that had the feathers of a Terran bird, a peacock. She had based her costume off of that, wearing a long green and purple dress, and a ‘feathered tail’, she’d made out of patterned material over a wire frame. The overall effect was incredible.

“How long will Quill take to return?” Drax’s voice boomed as he entered the room. His costume (if you could call it that) was supposed to be a ‘warrior’ - it looked sort of like a very scantily clad Terran gladiator. He was wearing a leather stripped ‘kilt’ that came just to his mid thigh and just about covered his... dignity. Other than that, all he was wearing was a leather sash, and his normal boots. It was a... striking look.

“Not long, ten minutes if that” Rocket said, “Where’s Groot?”

“I am Groot!” came the little call.

Seeing the tiny Flora Colossus all dressed up, Rocket grinned wide. “This is gonna be awesome”

Peter’s day had been weird to say the least. Yondu had shown up out of the blue (ba dum tsh) going on about how he needed help with finding this ‘artifact’ and because it was originally Terran, Peter had to be the one to help find it. The story was bullshit, and he knew it, but he went along with it anyway, curious to find out what was actually going on.

It had been a wild goose chase from the off. Yondu had them round every port and market the thing - which Peter eventually found out was an ancient Egyptian statuette (which was pretty cool) - had ever been at. By the time they found it, and Yondu had gotten it sold at a ridiculously high price, and then had split the money between them both, it was late.

It was late. And Peter was tired. And he had no idea what this was actually about. And why the shit there had been an ancient Egyptian statue this far out in space. And why in the galaxies he hadn’t heard a word from the other Guardians (which was totally out of character). No. Peter had had a very long day, and he just wanted to go back to the Milano, and forget all about the weirdness the day had brought.

So, when Yondu touched down, who knows where, in a ring of ships, which (bar one) were all Ravager ships, Peter actually thought he might kill him.

Peter stood up, “Yondu what the f-”

“Wasn’t ma idea boy, don’ go shoutin’ at me. Now git yer ass out there and see what’s goin’ on”

“Okay, so first up - we’ve got some trick or treating to do” Rocket said.

Peter frowned, “...how?”

Rocket gave another smug smile, “Go round each of the Ravager ships - ya think they’re here for nothing?”

Peter nodded, “You guys are awesome”

Kevin Ayers was a charismatic singer with a demure voice, involved in the Canterbury Scene and the genesis of progressive rock, being a founder member of the Soft Machine. Joy Of A Toy, his first solo record, is a wonderfully anachronistic blast of poppy psychedelia, with not many standout songs but designed to be listened to all the way through. Nevertheless, swinging opener 'Song For Insane Times' and the unsettling 'children's' song 'Lady Rachel' are my highlights.

9) John And Yoko - The Wedding Album

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's marriage in Gibraltar, for various reasons I can't remember, and their 'Bed Peace' protest were documented in this lavish package. Musically, the album is truly bizarre. The first side is 22 minutes of the pair's heartbeats as they shout each other's names in various ways (yeah) and the flip is a sound collage of a bunch of recordings and interviews made in Amsterdam during Bed Peace. I wanted a copy during my phase of intrigue into the Beatles' experimental solo works, and somehow I got one!

Out of the full package that originally came with the LP, I own the gatefold sleeve that held the record, the large wedding photos, the cartoon poster and the booklet of press clippings. The cardboard in there may be original too, and there's a random photo of John Lennon I was given free at a record fair once. The box is not, it was lovingly replicated from a Reader's Digest box set of show songs. Original boxes had a facsimile wedding certificate glued to the inside. I am sadly missing the 'Bagism' plastic bag, the pop up cutout of the wedding cake and the small strip of passport photos. What a package - it must have cost a lot at the time!

8) Blonde On Blonde - Contrasts

Label: Pye, cat. NSPL.18288

Year: 1969, 12 tracks

Paid: £12 in Plastic Wax

Notes: I only have half the cover! Clearly someone wanted to have the pretty girl on their wall... The LP is in playable condition. It took some cleaning though.

This Welsh outfit came at the beginning of progressive rock, and the LP is surprisingly assured and complex straight from the bold opener 'Ride With Captain Max'. Hard rock, baroque stately ballads and in between are all present, with other highlights being the sitar-drenched 'Spinning Wheel' (a cover of Blood Sweat and Tears), the sneeringly humorous 'Conversationally Making The Grade' (I love the line 'America's gonna buy us, turn us into a national park') and the wistful closer 'Jeanette Isabella'.

7) Second Hand - Reality

Label: Polydor, cat. 583 045

Year: 1968, 10 tracks

Highest Discogs sale: £295

Paid: £50 on eBay

Notes: second press, with labels crediting Second Hand instead of their first name, The Moving Finger (also the name of the band who released the gorgeous 'Pain of My Misfortune' single which I'm still looking for). The cover is deliberately 'worn' as a pun on the band name, and the vinyl is not perfect but really nice.

Again, Second Hand were at the forefront of progressive rock, miles ahead of many more popular acts. Band leader Ken Elliott was a keyboard wizard as well as lead vocalist, and the rest of the band were also brilliant musicians, augmented by the cello and flute of Chris Williams on certain tracks. The album has a loose concept about a clown, Denis James, whose life hits difficulties and culminates in his eventual suicide in the bath. The first side contains many brilliant vignettes, with tough rockers alongside orchestrated psychedelia, culminating in the woozy and fatigued 'The World Will End Yesterday'. However, be ready to turn it over. There are four tracks on the second side, the first being a cheery entree to the Denis James character. What follows is a devastating emotional journey that grabs you by the neck, with heavy murk contrasting the swooning cello arrangements and jazzy flute. This culminates in the Bath Song, and the death of D.J. Brutal, and has to be heard to be experienced. I thought it was even more chilling as I was told Bob Gibbons, the lead guitarist, killed himself nine years later. However that's a stupid myth for hype, unfortunately it was an accidental electrocution.

6) The Graham Bond Organization - Sound Of '65

Label: Columbia, cat. 33SX 1711

Year: 1965 (obviously!), 12 tracks

Paid: around £40 in Plastic Wax

Notes: looks much rougher than it plays. First press with '33SX' in the catalogue number.

Graham Bond, a former radiator salesman, was an amazing saxophone player and keyboardist (and decent singer) who cut his teeth alongside the now legendary Don Rendell. Also in the Organization, the band he formed after leaving Rendell's Quintet, was the other great saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith, and two future members of supergroup Cream, bassist and singer Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker. The album is classy jazzy R&B, covering many well known standards with a few originals in there. 'Baby Be Good To Me' is my standout pick, a scurrying shuffle with darting saxophone and cool organ fills driving it along.

5) The Wailers - Catch A Fire

Label: Island, cat. ILPS 9241

Year: 1973, 9 tracks

Notes: the upper part of the cover, which swung off as if a 'Zippo' lighter, is missing. The LP is very scratched, but is the original pink rim 1st pressing.

Bob Marley and The Wailers made this iconic album debut in 1973, starting the ball rolling on their incredible popularity. A classic of the new reggae sound straight from the darkly grooving opener 'Concrete Jungle'. Nuff said really! Check it out, you'll enjoy it.

4) The Graham Bond Organization - There's a Bond Between Us

Notes: slightly shabbier than the other GBO LP (they were bought together). Still a solid player.

This second album sees the GBO expand their sound, and is arguably the stronger of the two. Not only does Jack Bruce's suave and strong voice get more of an outing, but the three instrumentals make it impossible to sit down listening to the album! Have a dance to the punchy opener 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?' and listen to the Eastern-flavoured Baker-led 'Camels and Elephants'.

3) The Kinks - Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire

Label: Pye, cat. NPL.18317

Year: 1969, 12 tracks

Highest on Discogs: £421

Book price: £150

Paid: £20 in Plastic Wax

Notes: much rarer mono issue. Comes with original Queen Victoria lyric insert, but cover and record are very battered. 'Victoria' will not play as there is something up with the grooves. Maybe an industrial clean is in order.

This album, the last in the series of roughly conceptual Kinks LPs, is a delightfully quirky musical take on end-of-empire Britain, taking various melodic cues from music of the time and combining them with distinctly British themes and some serious danceability. One could argue that 'Victoria' invented pub rock. 'Brainwashed' is a cool mod dancer and 'Shangrila', the second single from the album, is a complex ode to humble home life and a shrewd observation on class. The hits and commercial success was gone by now, but is now the most acclaimed part of the Kinks' oeuvre.

2) Trees - On The Shore

Notes: two large grievous scratches on the A-side - but they barely even sound, it's a great player!

Acid folk was practically invented by Trees, who had already laid down the wonderful Garden of Jane Delawney LP. The characteristic soaring vocals of Celia Humphris delightfully interplayed with fuzzy rock to create a new exciting edge on traditional folk songs and some startling original material. The short opener 'Soldiers Three' signals their intent clearly. Their arrangement of the infamous folk ballad 'Streets of Derry' lends it an excellent charging energy, but arguably the standouts are the ominous and cryptic 'Fool' and the soaring and energetic 'Murdoch', showing staggering songcraft. As if the album didn't have more than enough going for it, 'Geordie' was sampled by Gnarls Barkley on their track 'St. Elsewhere', leading to a renaissance of the band's work. Despite appearing on numerous samplers put out by the record label, Trees never became a commercial success, a fact which boggles the mind.

Arguably Hendrix's masterpiece, this album needs little introduction, mixing psychedelia, jazz, R&B and even more into a great cosmic double album. Just listen to '1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be') and you'll understand the sheer power and weight of this record. Glorious from start to finish.

His best friend Charlie is on sometimes, and his brother Gabe is in sometimes too when he comes for visits he loves to hop into the background and be like “YOU BETTER KEEP THIS IN THE FINAL CUT.”

Dean wanted to record him rebuilding Baby from the ground up one time and Sam edited it and made it more like a timelapse and told him he should put it on YouTube, so he did, for shits and giggles, and people really liked it. So now he does timelapses of him deconstructing and cleaning/reconstructing guns. As well as cars and other mechanical work. He’s done a few tutorials and Q&A’s. He also has a second channel, that he didn’t tell him main channel about, where he posts videos of him playing the guitar and singing covers of his favorite songs. (He keeps his face out of them).

Cas and Dean probably meet at a VidCon and become good friends.

They start dating and don’t ever announce it, but the fandom ships it so hard because of how cute/flirty they were at the con. They start noticing that Cas is wearing what appear to be Dean’s shirts, and some fans are in denial, and they ask both questions but they always just shrug it off.

Until one time, Dean wanders into one of Cas’s vlogs in only flannel pajama pants, holding two mugs of coffee, and hands one to Cas, gives him a kiss on the cheek with a husky. “Morning sunshine.” 

They start posting cute ass couple pictures after it and its just so cute.

Dean is either a marksmen or a martial artist. I can’t decide. Gabe is a sports photographer and Cas is a professional ice skater and he follows Gabe to one of Dean’s things and they end up talking after cause Gabe is at his interview after (he won gold obvi) and Dean was like “I liked your routine.” and Cas is like “You know me???” and Dean says Sam always loved the ice sports and because of Sam he took a liking to ice skating and he skates sometimes but he thinks its really cool. (Sam is olympic volleyball player as a side note.) but they exchange numbers and hang out more and watch Sam play and its hella cute and they kiss.

(long ass name ik but this is a random fuckin idea i thought of years ago and will never do anything with so i’m going to do my best to explain it here and share it with you)

SO. Heaven and Hell went to war, the world got *wasted*. A lot of angels fell and so did demons and their powers have been like diminished. The world is a wasteland and divided into segments and the demons kind of run the place and segments. The angels hide.

Dean and Sam are reincarnated. There is minimal food in this world and because of things and whatever, everyone drinks blood of various degrees to stay alive. Like they dont need much, but they need it. (If you’re rich, you have a lot of blood. It does make you stronger, but you can be fine with minimal).

Blood is also a currency. Animal blood is included in this, but its worth less than human blood.

So. Dean and Sam lost their parents early on, and Dean has always been caring for/fending for Sam. He gets caught stealing books, which are like rare as fuck but he hated that no one was reading them and he felt they were being wasted. (He was going to return them. He was a quick reader. He didn’t think they’d even miss them)

Anyways. Sam goes to jail. The price to free him (cause either he’s a repeat offender or the demon is like Alistair/another demon who recognizes their souls and ups the price cause they can) is like 4/5 liters of blood. Human blood. Sam tells Dean not to pay for it, he’ll be fine, but Dean pays with his own blood of course (cause thats how the whole human blood thing works. Rich people can pay in other people that they own but like you pay in your own blood normally).

Dean is like hella weak after this and tells Sam he’s fine. He takes a day off of work but his arm (where he cut himself) gets infected and like he gets really pale and collapses a few days later. 

Sam packs up all of their stuff and takes them to a miracle healer he’d heard about through the rumor mill.

Surprise. It’s Cas. And Gabe is with him.

Cas freaks out, cause they thought Sam and Dean were dead. Gabe stops Cas from telling him, tho, and like they heal Dean and Dean gets like a frickin flashback while he’s unconscious and being healed of like his previous life.

Also they have a horse named Impala. It was their fathers and its like the only thing they really own besides their tiny shack.

At some point, they get their memories back. They become friends with Gabe and Cas and like, maybe find some of the other fallen angels, and potentially even Crowley and like, do something? That’s all though.

I don’t love referring to what we have as an “addiction.” That seems too sterile and clinical to describe what’s happening to our brains in the smartphone era. Eventually, in late December, I decided that enough was enough. I called Catherine Price, a science journalist and the author of “How to Break Up With Your Phone,” a 30-day guide to eliminating bad phone habits. And I begged her for help.

Mercifully, she agreed to be my phone coach for the month of January, and walk me through her plan, step by step. Together, we would build a healthy relationship with my phone, and try to unbreak my brain.

‘A Bit Horrifying’

I confess that entering phone rehab feels clichéd, like getting really into healing crystals or Peloton. Digital wellness is a budding industry these days, with loads of self-help gurus offering miracle cures for screen addiction. Some of those solutions involve new devices — such as the “Light Phone,” a device with an extremely limited feature set that is meant to wean users off time-sucking apps. Others focus on cutting out screens entirely for weeks on end. You can now buy $299 “digital detox” packages at luxury hotels or join the “digital sabbath”movement, whose adherents vow to spend one day a week using no technology at all.

Thankfully, Catherine’s plan is more practical. I’m a tech columnist, and while I don’t begrudge anyone for trying more extreme forms of disconnection, my job prevents me from going cold turkey.

Instead, her program focuses on addressing the root causes of phone addiction, including the emotional triggers that cause you to reach for your phone in the first place. The point isn’t to get you off the internet, or even off social media — you’re still allowed to use Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms on a desktop or laptop, and there’s no hard-and-fast time limit. It’s simply about unhooking your brain from the harmful routines it has adopted around this particular device, and hooking it to better things.

When we started, I sent her my screen time statistics, which showed that I had spent 5 hours and 37 minutes on my phone that day, and picked it up 101 times — roughly twice as many as the average American.

“That is frankly insane and makes me want to die,” I wrote to her.

“I will admit that those numbers are a bit horrifying,” she replied.

Catherine encouraged me to set up mental speed bumps so that I would be forced to think for a second before engaging with my phone. I put a rubber band around the device, for example, and changed my lock screen to one that showed three questions to ask myself every time I unlocked my phone: “What for? Why now? What else?”

For the rest of the week, I became acutely aware of the bizarre phone habits I’d developed. I noticed that I reach for my phone every time I brush my teeth or step outside the front door of my apartment building, and that, for some pathological reason, I always check my email during the three-second window between when I insert my credit card into a chip reader at a store and when the card is accepted.

Mostly, I became aware of how profoundly uncomfortable I am with stillness. For years, I’ve used my phone every time I’ve had a spare moment in an elevator or a boring meeting. I listen to podcasts and write emails on the subway. I watch YouTube videos while folding laundry. I even use an app to pretend to meditate.

If I was going to repair my brain, I needed to practice doing nothing. So during my morning walk to the office, I looked up at the buildings around me, spotting architectural details I’d never noticed before. On the subway, I kept my phone in my pocket and people-watched — noticing the nattily dressed man in the yellow hat, the teens eating hot Takis and laughing, the kid with Velcro shoes. When a friend ran late for our lunch, I sat still and stared out the window instead of checking Twitter.

It’s an unnerving sensation, being alone with your thoughts in the year 2019. Catherine had warned me that I might feel existential malaise when I wasn’t distracting myself with my phone. She also said paying more attention to my surroundings would make me realize how many other people used their phones to cope with boredom and anxiety.

“I compare it to seeing a family member naked,” she said. “Once you look around the elevator and see the zombies checking their phones, you can’t unsee it.”

Withdrawal Sets In

Next, I gave my phone the Marie Kondo treatment — looking at all my apps and keeping the ones that sparked joy and contributed to healthy habits and tossing those that didn’t.

For me, that meant deleting Twitter, Facebook and all other social media apps, along with news apps and games. I kept messaging services like WhatsApp and Signal, and non-distracting utilities like cooking and navigation apps. I pruned my home screen to just the essentials: calendar, email and password manager. And I disabled push notifications for everything other than phone calls and messages from a preset list of people that included my editor, my wife and a handful of close friends.

Where you keep your phone is also important. Studies have shownthat people who don’t charge their phones in their bedrooms are significantly happier than those who do. Catherine charges her phone in a closet; for me, she recommended a locking mini-safe. I bought one and started storing my phone inside, which simultaneously reduced my nighttime usage and made me feel like I was guarding the queen’s jewels.

And I pursued activities that could replace my phone habit. On the recommendation of my colleague Farhad Manjoo, I signed up for pottery classes. As it turned out, pottery makes a perfect phone substitute. It’s manually challenging and demands concentration for hours on end. It gets your hands dirty, too, which is a good deterrent to fiddling with expensive electronics.

After a pottery class, I updated my wife on my progress. I told her that while it felt great to disconnect, I still worried that I was missing something important. I liked having a constant stream of news at my fingertips, and I wanted to do more of the things I actually like about social media, like keeping tabs on my friends’ babies and maintaining ambient Kardashian awareness.

“I’m sad that you’re having trouble with this,” she said, “because it’s been great for me.”

She explained that since my phone detox started, I’d been more present and attentive at home. I spent more time listening to her, and less time distractedly nodding and mumbling while checking my inbox or tapping out tweets.

Psychologists have a name for this: “phubbing,” or snubbing a person in favor of your phone. Studies have shown that excessive phubbing decreases relationship satisfaction and contributes to feelings of depression and alienation.

For years, I’ve justified my phubbing by treating it as a professional necessity. Isn’t it my job to know when news happens? Won’t I be neglecting my duties if it takes me an extra hour to learn that Jeff Bezos is getting divorced, or another YouTuber did something racist?

I put this question to Catherine, who reassured me that I wasn’t jeopardizing my career by being slightly later to the news. She reminded me that I’d been happier since I dialed down my screen time, and she gently encouraged me to focus on the other side of the cost-benefit analysis.

“Think of the bigger picture of what you’re getting by not being on Twitter all the time.”

A Thoreau Cleansing

The biggest test came with a “trial separation” — a 48-hour period during which I wasn’t allowed to use my phone or any other digital device. (Catherine’s program calls for a 24-hour separation, but I decided to try a more hard-core version.)

I had dreaded this idea at the outset, but when the weekend actually arrived, I got giddy with excitement. I rented an off-the-grid Airbnb in the Catskills, warned my editor that I’d be offline for the weekend and took off.

A phone-free weekend involved some complications. Without Google Maps, I got lost and had to pull over for directions. Without Yelp, I had trouble finding open restaurants.

But mostly, it was great. For two solid days, I basked in 19th-century leisure, feeling my nerves softening and my attention span stretching back out. I read books. I did the crossword puzzle. I lit a fire and looked at the stars. I felt like Thoreau, if Thoreau periodically wondered what was happening on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Instagram story.

I also felt twinges of anger — at myself, for missing out on this feeling of restorative boredom for so many years; at the engineers in Silicon Valley who spend their days profitably exploiting our cognitive weaknesses; at the entire phone-industrial complex that has convinced us that a six-inch glass-and-steel rectangle is the ideal conduit for worldly experiences.

Sadly, there is no way to talk about the benefits of digital disconnection without sounding like a Goop subscriber or a neo-Luddite. Performative wellness is obnoxious, as is reflexive technophobia.

But I cannot stress enough that under the right conditions, spending an entire weekend without a phone in your immediate vicinity is incredible. You have to try it.

Rewired and Renewed

Allow me a bit of bragging: Over the course of 30 days, my average daily phone time, as measured by the iPhone’s built-in screen time tracker, has dwindled from around five hours to just over an hour. I now pick up my phone only about 20 times a day, down from more than 100. I still use my phone for email and texting — and I’m still using my laptop plenty — but I don’t itch for social media, and I often go hours without so much as a peek at any screen.

In one of our conversations, I asked Catherine if she worried that I would relapse. She said it was possible, given the addictive properties of phones and the likelihood that they’ll only keep getting more essential. But she said that as long as I remained aware of my relationship with my phone, and continued to notice when and how I used it, I’d have gotten something valuable.

“Your life is what you pay attention to,” she said. “If you want to spend it on video games or Twitter, that’s your business. But it should be a conscious choice.”

One of the most unexpected benefits of this program is that by getting some emotional distance from my phone, I’ve started to appreciate it again. I keep thinking: Right here, in my pocket, is a device that can summon food, cars and millions of other consumer goods to my door. I can talk with everyone I’ve ever met, create and store a photographic record of my entire life, and tap into the entire corpus of human knowledge with a few swipes.

Steve Jobs wasn’t exaggerating when he described the iPhone as a kind of magical object, and it’s truly wild that in the span of a few years, we’ve managed to turn these amazing talismanic tools into stress-inducing albatrosses. It’s as if scientists had invented a pill that gave us the ability to fly, only to find out that it also gave us dementia.

But there is a way out. I haven’t taken an M.R.I. or undergone a psychiatric evaluation, but I’d bet that something fundamental has shifted inside my brain in the past month. A few weeks ago, the world on my phone seemed more compelling than the offline world — more colorful, faster-moving and with a bigger scope of rewards.

I still love that world, and probably always will. But now, the physical world excites me, too — the one that has room for boredom, idle hands and space for thinking. I no longer feel phantom buzzes in my pocket or have dreams about checking my Twitter replies. I look people in the eye and listen when they talk. I ride the elevator empty-handed. And when I get sucked into my phone, I notice and self-correct.

It’s not a full recovery, and I’ll have to stay vigilant. But for the first time in a long time, I’m starting to feel like a human again.

Inside the pay-for-post ICO industry

In a world where nothing can be trusted and fake news abounds, ICO and crypto teams are further muddying the waters by trying – and often failing – to pay for posts. While bribes for blogs is nothing new, sadly the current crop of ICO creators and crypto projects are particularly interested in scaling fast and many ICO CEOs are far happier with scammy multi-level marketing tricks than real media relations.

The worst part of this spammy, scammy ecosystem is the service providers. A new group of media organizations are appearing where pay-to-post is the norm rather than the rare exception. I’ve been looking at these groups for a while now and recently found a few egregious examples.

But first some background.

Oh yeah, Mr. Smart Guy? How do I get press?

Say you’re trying to publicize a startup. You’ve emailed all the big names in the industry and the emails have gone unanswered. Your product is about to flounder on the market without users and you can’t get any because, in perfect chicken-or-egg fashion, you can’t get funding without users and you can’t get users without funding. So isn’t it a good idea to pay a few dollars for a little press?

No.

And isn’t most PR just pay-for-post anyway?

No.

PR people are consummate networkers and are paid to reach out to media on your behalf and their particular set of skills, honed over long careers, are dedicated to breaking down the forcefield between the journalist and the outside world. They are your surrogate hustlers, dedicated to getting you more exposure. A good PR person is worth their weight in gold. They can call up a popular journalist and make a simple pitch: “This cool new thing is happening. Can I put you in touch?”

If a journalist’s mission is to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, a good PR person makes the comfortable look slightly afflicted in order to give the journalist a better story. Also, like velociraptors, they are tenacious and will follow up multiple times on your behalf.

A bad PR person, on the other hand, will cold-call hundreds of journalists and read a script that is half the length of Moby Dick. They produce little more than spam and their efforts begin and end with pressing the “Send” button. It’s also interesting to note that many bad PR people, of late, have found new life as ICO specialists.

Now meet the pay-for-post hucksters. As I wrote before, there is now a subset of the PR world that offers to get your press release or story on the top of various websites for the low, low price of between $500 and $13,000. For example, one set of hucksters created a small business selling posts on Harvard.edu by creating garbage WordPress blogs and posting press releases to increase SEO coverage. Further, I received a document that outlined the prices for placement in various blogs including this one. While it is impossible to buy a post on TechCrunch this way, it doesn’t stop many from trying.

What’s the difference between that price list and the job a PR person will do for you? The difference is trust. A pay-for-post huckster is dependent on convincing poorly paid freelance writers to add links and other dross to their posts in order to get a “placement.” I get requests like this almost every day and almost all the journalists I talked to reported the same.

Some entrepreneurs are savvy enough to avoid these scams. Even more aren’t.

“I’ve never paid since I think it’s almost always a waste of money but I’ve been offered this type of coverage many times,” said Rick Ramos, of HealthJoy.com. “The last offer was for Kathy Ireland’s Worldwide Business… A TV show that I’ve never heard of in my life. I’ve also been approached by niche publications like InsuranceOutlook and HealthCareTechOutlook that want $3,000 for a ‘reprint branding package.’ A quick Alexa.com search shows their rank as 1,725,207 and 1,054,501 globally. I think I get pitched at least every six months for one of these types of packages.

Unfortunately, many of these organizations hide their request for payment until the last minute. That said, how do you know when it’s someone selling pay-for-play vs. a real editor? It’s usually obvious.

“It’s usually pretty easy to sniff out based on their email blast. It’s pretty untargeted with no reference to what your company does or how it related to a story. Some people are up front about the payment but others want a ’15 min call to discuss.’ A quick LinkedIn search always shows them as a sales person versus a reporter or editor,” said Ramos.

It’s getting worse

This is a document I received from a company attempting an ICO. This sort of menu was quite uncommon until fairly recently when the “on-demand” economy melded with PR scammers. The completeness of the document is unique – you could feasibly plan your own PR efforts just by reaching out to journalists who work at all of these places. But you’ll also note that each spot has its own price, often in the low hundreds of dollars, which means that those spots are mostly pay-for-play anyway.

No PR company can promise coverage. In fact, many pay-for-play folks mention this in their communications, hiding it in plain sight. This snippet of text appeared in a contract for work from one of the pay-for-play providers. In short, you’re paying for something they cannot guarantee to get. Interestingly, the PR company below calls their product an IO – an insertion order – which is language used in ad sales. Further, they take great pains in explaining that it is almost impossible to achieve what they promise.

None of the pay-for-post folks I mentioned here would respond to my requests for comment.

Counter-point: Journalists are also at fault

Journalists should never expect money for coverage.

Yet many do.

“Lately I have worked on a number of blockchain technology pieces and I have encountered a wide variety of these asks,” said Brittany Whitmore, CEO at Exvera Communications. “A lot of the new, smaller blockchain-focused outlets seem to do a lot of pay-to-play, likely trying to capitalize on the ICO gold rush. The strangest request that I received was that the outlet would do a an article about the news for free but only if we paid them over $1,000 to promote the article with ads. I did not proceed.”

In one very detailed article on The Outline, Jon Christian explored this world and found that many writers received small sums for a single brand mention in a story, a sort of SEO flogging that rarely helps. He wrote:

An unpaid contributor to the Huffington Post, also speaking on condition of anonymity because, in his words, “I would be pretty fucked if my name got out there,” said that he has included sponsored references to brands in his articles for years, in articles on the Huffington Post and other sites, on behalf of six separate agencies. Some agencies pay him directly, he said, in amounts that can be as small as $50 or $175, but others pay him through an employee’s personal PayPal account in order to obfuscate the source of the funds. In a statement, Huffington Post said “Using the HuffPost Contributors Network to self-publish paid content violates our terms of use. Anyone we discover to be engaging in such abuse has their post removed from the site and is banned from future publication.” The Huffington Post writer also described specific brands he’d written about on behalf of one of the agencies, which ranged from a popular ride-hailing app, to a publicly-traded site for booking flights and hotels, to a large American cell phone service provider. “This is a classic example of payola,” he said of the brand mentions, invoking a term that’s been used to describe radio DJs who accept payments from record companies in order to play certain artists on the air.

Further, many influencers – folks who sell their Internet fame to the highest bidder – masquerade as journalists, asking for outrageous sums to flog an ICO on their YouTube channel or Instagram page. Pay-for-play services can also put out organic content like this in hopes of appearing in the news.

The rule of thumb? Paid posts and native advertising are not journalism. Ultimately, journalists who charge for coverage are marketers. No one at any reputable news organization will ask for cash but, sadly, there are a number of disreputable news organizations making the rounds.

ICO spamming/Don’t do it

All this still doesn’t answer the question: Should you pay-to-post?

“The short answer is no,” said Kevin Bourke of BourkePR. “I get asked all the time, and in fact, turned down another request just today. And I advise my clients to decline these offers as well.”

Pay-for-post disrupts journalism in a way that should be familiar and desirable to any modern-day entrepreneur. Middlemen are being knocked out everywhere and brands are approaching consumers from every angle including native ads in Instagram and Twitter. But the value of coverage – real coverage – from a journalists perspective is the opportunity to explain complex ideas to a ready audience. While posting a picture of a blockchain on Facebook and hoping for clicks is one strategy, explaining your views, opinions, and insights is far more important even if you approach it from a mercenary position.

“When you start paying for placement, you remove objectivity and credibility, and in my opinion, this is the reason you look for coverage of your company/products in the first place. That’s what influences readers/viewers. But I understand the temptation for startups. You come to believe that ‘all visibility is good visibility.’ I just can’t agree with that,” said Bourke. “I see the trend toward paid placements (now called sponsored content), paid awards and I can’t stand it – especially with the trade show awards in high tech. They’ve completely devalued the Best of Show awards in so many cases. Typically, only the big companies with budgets can afford them, so many of the smaller guys with no money but amazing products get left out. I understand that the publishing industry needs to figure out new revenue streams – these are very difficult times for them. But they need to figure out smarter business models and maintain the integrity of editorialized content, built on the opinions and perspectives of journalists and influencers.”

Part 3

Inside the Phalanx, Paige Guthrie awakens surrounded by what she thinks is a blanket but really is the stretched skin her fellow captive, Angelo...

...who has the mutant ability to stretch but lacks the elasticity of other heroes like Mr. Fantastic and Plastic Man which makes him kinda droopy. The captured mutant teens begin to access the situation, some are hopeless, Paige is hopeful and Monet, whom we met last issue, is catatonic. Paige then discovers that unlike the other mutants, she’s infected by the Phalanx and her assimilation has begun.

     What’s left of the X-Men travel to San Francisco to the home of Emma Frost to access her computer, which contains the blueprints to the SHIELD base in the Bay Area, where they can pick up on any spikes in Techno-organic activity. Banshee and Emma leave to find out if SHIELD can help. Leaving Jubilee and Thomas to bond.

        Frost mentallyblocks their bodies out from being able to be seen by the SHIELD agents but forgets to block the rain water dripping off them and they’re discovered.Banshee assists with a Sonic scream.

Meanwhile inside the Phalanx, Monet finally speaks and quickly disrupts the power source and takes out the big guy. She figured out he was a plant and part of the Phalanx.

        She then busts them out, even taking the sick Paige, showing that they're now a team. 

 End Part 3

  In San Diego Bay, the Phalanx, respond to the escape of their captives and have Clarice in their clutches. The others implore her to use her powers but she’s reluctant, finally she gives in and blinks them apart and Monet finishes the job. Only to discover that Harvest is back!

 The X-Men arrive on the ship. As they enter the boat, Jubilee and the Emma discover that the Phalanx on the ship have even assimilated the rats on board. Jubilee acts as the exterminator.

As Harvest closes in on the teens, Sabretooth saves them, apparently he just escaped to get his costume. With Banshee’s help they stop Harvest temporarily.

  They meet Paige and see that she’s infected and Sabretooth has a novel way to remove it by clawing at her. Paige completes the removal of the growth by showcasing her mutant power.

 Harvest attacks again and gets the better of Banshee and Sabretooth. Clarice realizing that she’s their only hope sacrifices herself to save her new friends. She’s trapped by her own power. She and Harvest disappear from existence.

 Skin, Paige, Jubilee, Thomas Everett and Monet regroup on the docks to mourn Clarice’s death.

 Worth Re-Collecting?

  One of the things that I liked about this series was the inserts with time lines of different X-Men characters, Bishop, Cyclops, Cable and Banshee, helping new readers learn about past X-Men stories. It was one of my favorite parts of the book as a kid yet I had forgotten all about it. 

This series was fun to read. The Phalanx was hard to describe as a villain, it’s a sum of its assimilated. And as a result, it was interesting to have Harvest cut off from the hive, so that he could be beaten because he lacked the power of the collective and began showing signs of individuality, symptoms of his being unable to draw from the hive. He was desperate enough to assimilate rats to take their energy. I also liked how the team had to bond together over Clarice’s sacrifice and learn to work together.

Part of the point of Generation X was to have less glamorous mutants and they sure delivered. Skin is like Mr. Fantastic without the elasticity, so he looks like he has extra skin, Husk is the traditional blonde pretty girl who can rip her skin off, later we would meet Chamber, who has Cyclops’ power of energy blasts but emitting from his chest and he blew off his own jaw. These X-Men were grittier and certainly not prettier than their predecessors and it made for a fun read. This is also the first time we saw Emma Frost as a member of the X-Men, she would play a major role ever since. Pairing: Kevin Price x Reader (Book of Mormon)

Prompt: kevin price takes reader to disneyworld on a romantic trip and they watch fireworks together and ride roller coasters and stuff

Author’s Note: My first BOM fic! I saw this musical three weeks ago in Melbourne and I fell in love (especially with Kevin, I relate too much to that boy). I really enjoyed writing this fic and I am going to try getting more fics out on this blog because I know it’s been like seven hundred years since I last posted :)

Warnings: Nothing, it’s just pure fluff

“Where to first, Kevin? Pirates of the Caribbean? Space Mountain? Big Thunder Mountain?” You wanted nothing else but to make this trip the best damn day of Kevin’s life. It helped that you shared a love of all things Disney, and were extremely happy to follow Kevin around the park, led by your hand and heart.

“Y/N...” There was a mock-scolding tone to Kevin’s voice and he looked at you with an expression of endearment. “You know we can’t do anything without ears on!” The bright smile on his face finally reached his eyes, giving them a sparkle you saw only on rare occasions.

With the hand not clutched tight to the map Kevin entwined his fingers with yours, leading you away from the entrance in the direction of Main Street. The two of you stopped abruptly at a small cart selling a wide variety of ears. Your eyes were immediately drawn to the pair of sequined ears that sparkled in the light of the early morning sun.

“What do you think about these ones?” With no mirror in sight you turned to Kevin for an opinion.

“Y/N, you’d look gorgeous in any of these pairs. But in those? You look absolutely stunning.” He pressed a quick, yet loving, kiss to your forehead after ensuring that the image of you, illuminated by the rays of light and with a smile almost as bright as the sun itself, was preserved in his mind forever.

“Shush, you.” You laughed, trying to distract from the rising tinge of pink making its way onto the apples of your cheeks. “Now let’s find you a pair of ears so we can get going.” You picked up a tacky pair of ears as a joke: a joke that Kevin obviously did not pick up on.

“These are perfect!” He placed the ears on his head and pulled you in close for a hug, whispering a quick, “Thank you, Y/N.” Giving you a tight squeeze he plucked the ears off your head, taking them to the cashier to both pay and get the tags cut off.

Kevin gently placed the ears back on your head, an expression of concentration present on his face as he stuck his tongue out a little, wanting them to be positioned perfectly for you.

“C’mon, babe, let’s get going.” You stood up on your tip toes to press a kiss to Kevin’s cheekbone, your lips lingering for a couple of seconds.

The two of you strolled away, hand in hand, down Main Street. “This is better than I remembered it being.” Kevin murmured, unable to tear his eyes away from the castle in the distant. “Maybe it’s because you’re here with me.” He tightened his grip on your hand, running his thumb over the back of your hand.

“You’re so cheesy, Kev.” A laugh followed your words, the two of you falling into a comfortable silence; taking in the sights, sounds and sweet smells of the park.

The music changed and the colours shifted into a mix of bright pastels - the two of you had walked past the castle (after many, many photos) and found yourselves in Fantasy Land. Your eyes were drawn to the sight of the signature blue of Peter Pan’s Flight, and, noticing the significantly short wait time, you tugged on Kevin’s sleeve. “How ‘bout we make this the first ride of the day?”

“It’s almost like you read my mind,” he laughed, taking long strides towards the entrance of the ride, pulling you along with him by the hand. It was cloudy, slightly cold and a Wednesday, so the line wasn’t very long and you practically walked on to the ride.

The hanging boat swung as you boarded it, Kevin first and then followed by you, both waving to the ride attendant as you passed by. You felt the familiar weight of Kevin’s hand on your knee as the ride progressed, the boat gliding over the fake miniature city of London, complete with glittering LED lights.

You and Kevin had watched many, many Disney movies in preparation for the trip, (Kevin had said that going on a ride based on a movie you hadn’t seen was one of the worst things you could do), and you hummed along with the soundtrack playing.

On your way out of the ride Kevin turned to face you, asking, “Are you related to Wendy, Y/N? Because you’re a darling.”

“Kevin,” You mock-scolded, laughing whilst simultaneously rolling your eyes. “Your extensive knowledge of Disney movies is both a blessing and a curse. And I’m not sure which one it is in this case.”

“There wasn’t a lot to do in Uganda apart from watch movies, to be completely honest,” Kevin appeared to be thinking out loud, wandering aimlessly through the park with you following one or two paces behind him.

He was caught up in thought and had not realised that you stopped walking, and he turned back to you, following your line of sight. A family of ducks had jumped out in front of you, waddling from one isolated plot of flowers to another. You bent down, taking your phone out to take pictures of the ducks rather than pictures of the rest of the park. Kevin had also taken his phone out, but not to take photos of the animals in front of you: the pictures filling up his camera roll were ones of you, smiling down at the waddling ducks.

“Do you want to come on Space Mountain with me?” You and Kevin had entered Tomorrowland and were now standing outside the entrance of the aforementioned ride - it was mid-afternoon and you had managed to avoid going on every roller coaster the pair of you had passed thus far. But Kevin wouldn’t let you spend a day in Disney World without setting foot on at least one roller coaster, so here you were. “I’ll keep you safe, Y/N, I promise.”

Sincerity was visible in his eyes and you didn’t doubt the truth behind his words. What you did doubt, however, was your stomach; especially with the addition of one too many sugary snacks.

“Fine.” You gave in to the request, making a wide grin appear on his face. “But this is the both the first and last time I’m doing this, okay?”

“You’re the best!” He almost jumped in the air at your agreement but restrained himself, instead pressing a hurried kiss to the top of your hair before pulling you into the line for the ride. “It’ll be fun, trust me!” He called back to you, already several steps ahead.

“Kevin, if the ride is going to be as fun as you claim, then why the heck are there so many exits?” You questioned after seeing the fourth doorway that lead away from the ride, back out into the park.

“They’re only there for the people who chicken out.”

“So they’re there for me?” You laughed, but were also quite serious.

The rest of the time spent waiting passed quickly enough - Kevin kept you laughing and distracted, regaling you with stories from before he met you.

Rounding a corner you got your first glimpse of the carriages shooting off at about one thousand miles an hour - from your perspective, at least - up the tunnel.

“Kevin.” You whispered in a hurried tone as you made your way closer and closer to getting onto the ride. “Kevin, are you sure it’ll be alright? Like, one hundred percent sure?  Would you bet -”

You stopped rambling as Kevin took one of your hands in his, bringing it up to his lips, peppering them with kisses.

“Nervous?” The voice of a cast member interrupted your train of thought, making you realise just how soon you’d be strapped in. “It’s one of my favourite rides here, you’ll be fine.” She gave you a toothy smile as the line moved on. “And between you and me, your boyfriend looks like he’ll take perfect care of you.” She had leaned in close to you, ensuring Kevin wouldn’t hear her side comment. You shot her a wavering smile and she winked in response; the playful attitude helping to quell some of your nervous tension.

“Alright everyone, make sure all hats and glasses are taken off and stored in the baskets in front of you with your bags!” Another cast member, with a voice more grating and an attitude more annoying than the last, stood above you. You and Kevin had been seated in the front row; it was a stroke of luck according to Kevin, and one of the worst things that could’ve happened according to you. “Safe travels!” A salute and wave sent you off, the movement of your hand to Kevin’s leg a subconscious reaction to the sudden jolt of speed.

You didn’t think you had ever screamed that much in your entire life. The many dizzying twists and turns, ups and downs, left you disoriented: how on Earth they had managed to construct such a long track indoors was beyond you.

“That was so fun!” Kevin was on an adrenaline high as you stumbled out of the building, practically bouncing down the exit path.

“Yeah that’s... One way to describe it.” The smile on your face wasn’t there because of the ride, but because of Kevin’s reaction to it. This was the happiest you’d ever seen him, every new ride, character interaction and sight only increasing his level of enthusiasm.

“I was thinking...” Kevin spread out a plastic cover on the ground in front of the castle for you two to sit on, making himself comfortable before continuing. “This has been the best day of my life. And it’s because of you. And, uh - jeez, I just want you to know I love you. More than I have ever loved anyone in my entire life.”

He wasn’t looking directly at you, too embarrassed to do so, and you could see the red tinge blooming on his cheeks. He crossed his legs and placed his hands in his lap, waiting for you to reply. What he couldn’t see were the couple of tears that had fallen down your face combined with the smile you simply couldn’t get rid of.

“I - uh - really, really love you too, Kevin.” You cleared your throat and shifted closer to Kevin, gingerly resting your head on his shoulder. He placed his hand on your leg, palm facing up, as an invitation for you to hold it. You interlaced your fingers with his, drawing your eyes back up to the castle, waiting for the fireworks to begin.

Suddenly, Kevin sat up a little straighter and turned to face you, accidentally pushing you off him in the process.

“Y/N. Will you-” The rest of Kevin’s question was cut off by the first note of Wishes and the following fireworks. You figured the question was not important enough for him to continue through the firework special, so you turned your attention fully towards the animation playing out on the castle.

A tap on your shoulder half way through, therefore, was a surprise: you turned around to see Kevin’s face about three inches away from yours.

“Need help with something?” You laughed, watching the reflection of each firework explosion in his shining eyes.

“Um, yeah.” Your eyes were focused on his and didn’t notice his hand reach into the front pocket of his backpack to pull out a small, black box. “Will, oh gosh,” He was extremely nervous but continued on; “Will you do me the honour of - uh - being my wife?” His eyes closed as he spoke the last word, as if not seeing your reaction would save him from any further embarrassment.

“Y-yes.” You breathed out, unable to do much more. His eyes opened as soon as you said that single word, his shaking hands finding it hard to take the ring out of the small box. He managed it, and his shaking hands met yours as he slid it onto your left hand, the diamond reflecting the different colours of the fireworks exploding overhead.

His eyes flickered down to your lips before moving in to kiss you. You raised your hands to thread through his hair, your lips moving in harmony as the most well-known Disney love songs played in the background.

You broke apart, your forehead resting on his as your hands moved down to cradle his neck. The fireworks illuminated the glittering tear tracks that had carved their way onto Kevin’s face just as they lit up the ones on your cheeks.

“You’re the best person on this entire freakin’ planet.” He murmured, evidently thinking out loud again. You simply smiled in response and placed your lips softly against his jawline, your heart overflowing with love for him.
