I’m not personally a headcanonner of Maglor living in Rivendell in LotR under a new name, but if he is, I adamantly believe that he is not Lindir (“song guy”) but rather Erestor (tentatively glossed “lonely brother.”) Tragic humor or bust!
i just got involved with the fandom on social media, and i’m surprised that the pearlrose “unrequited” misconception is still a thing, after all these years. i’m also surprised by how hated they are. as a ship, individually, etc.
even if sugar + burnett didn’t state that pearlrose was requited, i would know from the behavior of their friends.
in the movie, amethyst referred to rose as the “love of pearl’s life.” sapphire told pearl that she “swept rose off her feet.” pearl + rose lived together for centuries, but they also lived with garnet + amethyst. if the love was unrequited, they would have behaved very differently.
pearl herself would have behaved differently, too. she’s incredibly intelligent. many girls crush on her and she’s survived a lot, even prior to rose’s death. i could never picture a situation in which pearl lives with someone she is so clearly in love with for so many years, while that someone doesn’t feel the same way. pearl survived a war, escaped from homeworld, then raised a child & fixed the issues between her & greg during the early stages of grief. she loved and protected someone for thousands of years, and then lost her. if it was unrequited over 5,000 years ago, pearl wouldn’t be saying rose made her feel like she was “everything” and pearl probably would have taken space. rose would encourage this, because pearl’s happiness was always important to her.
their requited love and deep emotional connection that they had with no one else is evident, even without all the clear evidence in the episodes. rose wouldn’t blush and exclaim, “please don’t ever stop” as a response to pearl’s love confession if she didn’t feel the same way. she would simply say, “yes, you should imagine things on your own, but…” and they absolutely would not have nearly fused.
the flashbacks with greg are confusing and there’s information about pearlrose left out *because* this is a story told by greg to his child. of course there are missing perspectives and details left out. and also, there are thousands of years between the war flashbacks and the greg flashbacks. pearl and rose spent centuries together and we only see about ten years in total. the creators confirmation that pearlrose is requited *can* make sense.
every steven universe relationship is complicated with undesirable aspects. pearl and rose were two very traumatized individuals who went through so much together. yet they don’t seem to get much sympathy, from what i’ve seen on some platforms. one or both characters are often viewed as “toxic,” and their relationship being nonexistent and unrequited makes less sense than the opposite. are there some unhealthy aspects? of course! but i also think the unhealthy aspects of so many other relationships in the show are overlooked. just like how the beautiful parts of pearlrose are ignored. the *love* between pearlrose is ignored.
(Tw fatass rant on my personal opinion on batdr and biggest annoyance with it that I think about forever)
Forever thinking about how the bendy games were meant to convey a theme of how seeking perfection and trying to erase mistakes always resulted in the worst
Alice going mad seeking a 'perfect' cartoon face, Sammy spiralling and leading himself down terrible places in search of returning back to his 'perfect' human body, Overall Joey creating monsters and harming the entire studio trying to create 'perfect' cartoons, Wilson trying to make his perfect cartoon character and attempting to harm Audrey in the process and ending up dead himself, ect. (Even in smaller cases like Jane wanting her character getting into the butcher gang to go 'perfectly' and presumably killing herself to get her way somehow)
And batdr seemed to have an excellent setup to follow this theme, with exploration of the ink demons abuse, In the studio despite being nonhostile being rejected for not being 'perfect', and growing aggressive when rejected and hurt- and then batdr follows off of this, how hes experimented on and tortured into being 'perfect', how despite the cartoon form is visually appealing and the desired perfection, it is quite literally achieved through torture and subduing.
The ink demons speech towards Audrey is very clearly projecting, and is explicitly with the line "You're a mistake, a monster, like me." He's ashamed of himself, but only because that's what he's been taught. Regardless, he feels powerful and truest in that form, and the cartoon form just isn't him, even if it's what was desired or expected of him, it causes harm.
And then after they team up and use the end reel, starting everything over after defeating Wilson (and his torture machinery), prepared to do the cycle right, what form of the demon do we see?
... Ah.
Gotta love being marketable (internal screams of agony)
Anyways I just find it interesting how after all the themes stressing how seeking perfection no matter the cost is BAD and HURTS they switched it around at the end. I think it was purely for the omg cartoon so cute hype because there doesn't seem to be much else reasoning to just do that as the ending to wrap up a story trying to follow this theming.
Anyways I have probably ranted about this before.
Tldr: personally (personally) I want to kick the child
I keep assuming that people will find Lillie a controversial and unlikable character, so it's always a pleasant surprise to see people say "I love that funky little puritan let's goooo"
Hey question. Has anyone ever like. Been territorial over media (source especially if fictionfolk) and found a way to get over it. If you have I'd really, really like advice. Even if you haven't but have things to say I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Elaboration in tags, I suppose.
Please explain your Nailmaster Oro and Lost Kin headcanon, I would like to hear it very very much.
GLADLY !!!!!! (thank u sm for this ask :]]] )
so, assuming the vessels all have the same base experience when they escape the abyss and head into hallownest, Lost Kin in theory starts off with the same base abilities that you have at the start of a playthrough. no nail arts, charms, etc.
i bring up nail arts specifically, because one of the attacks that LK does in the boss fights: the dash attack
which. to me, personally, looks like the dash slash !! which is the nail art that you can only learn from Nailmaster Oro (in-universe, maybe you could also learn it from Sly, or one of the other Nailmasters despite it not being their speciality? but this is just going off what i think would be most likely rather than all the possibilities ever)
it has the same moment of charging up, and then the overall appearance of the attack just looks like the dash slash. it has further range, but LK is bigger than Ghost, so that could be one explanation for that
also, relatively to the rest of hallownest, the two of them aren't actually that far from one another ! and the path isnt too complicated. Oro is definitely the easiest nailmaster to get to from LK's room, so i dont think it'd be a stretch to say that they could've made the distance while not infected
the final 'evidence' point (and the weakest) is that LK does the same bow the nailmasters do, when they are beaten in the dream realm
i say that this point is a bit weak, because other characters also do a bow, like grimm and the mantis lords, so it may be more widely known in Hallownest's society to bow after a fight/duel/whatever. however, LK's room's closest (least complicated to get to might be more accurate?) character that canonically bows in respect after a fight is... oro ! so i choose to believe this is where they got it from
AND NOW... THE SPECULATION
this part comes second to the previous stuff i provided and is more just things i think about now that im committed to the hc
Oro is very reluctant to take Ghost on as a pupil, and remains very distant emotionally, especially when compared to his brother Mato. this could, technically, be explained by the feud between him and Mato leading to his isolation, and some other stuff going on in his past. which i do believe contributes to it !
but another thing that may also contribute to specifically having an aversion to accepting students and getting close to them... well... what if he previously had a student that left, or he got separated with for whatever reason ? and that student never came back ? the only company anywhere near his isolated hut, and theyre gone and he doesn't know where they went or what happened to them
final and strongest propaganda point:
reluctant mentor figure that eventually has to admit that he does enjoy the company of his mentee, and mischievous mentee that incessantly bothers the mentor trope dynamic. that is all
Not sure if people honestly forget or just kind of ignore how Dior explicitly took part in the Battle of Sarn Athrad one of whose main objectives (or at the very least RESULTS) was to retrieve the Silmaril. As if a huge part of the irony of the run-up to the Second Kinslaying isn't that Doriath are the ones who killed people specifically in pursuit of the Silmaril (that were longstanding allies of the Fëanorians and contributed in the wars against Morgoth as recently as the Union of Maedhros, even potential friends re: Curufin, and whose craftsmanship Beren has to thank for being able to cut the thing free from Morgoth's crown in the first place). Dior's connection to the Silmaril isn't just having it passed down from his parents, he actively fought for it (which I'll grant wasn't necessarily his chief motivation and more important to his father, but the larger point still stands). That's the context in which he refuses to even negotiate with the Fëanorians claim.
BENDY THE PEOPLE WANNA KNOW, WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON JEVIL'S PAST RELATIONSHIP WITH SPAMTON??🎤 (They're canonically exes I think)
i only see these two as rivals/enemies lol
but well tbh benvil is kinda similar to spamvil but in a different treatment ig since bendy can actually understands jevil's point of view and stuff and they both have so many things in common soo yeah.
bur well not to be against spamvil shippers (sometimes when i see spamvil i keep saying "man it should've been me"/j)
puppy...precious...[cradles photo and sobs] they'll never let me forget you
Favorite thing about that character
his voice....the growl- HHGHGH
Least favorite thing
this is hard...buuuut I guess I'll say the latest gas mask skin
there's a lot going on with the vest and shoulders like excuse me sir what are you packing
Favorite line/scene
too many from that one mission Alone in mw2....so I'll give 2
Ghost: “Narcos… they’ll take videos.”
Soap: “I’ll give ‘em your email so they know where to send them…”
Ghost: “I won’t watch ‘em… more than once anyway…"
Soap: “Sick bastard…”
Soap: "away and bile yer heid!!"
Ghost: "English, MacTavish"
Soap: "let me translate, go fuck yourself"
Ghost: "Much better"
Favorite interaction that character has with another
Alejandro: "I can't call Soap 'Johnny'...."
Soap: "Don't. Only Ghost can pull that off."
*giggling kicking my feet*
A character that I wish that character would interact with more
I think Soap would hang out well with Alejandro and Rudy! so them for sure
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character
Johnny Cage....(idk why either)
A headcanon about that character
actually, I think between Ghost and Soap, Soap's the kind of guy who likes salty, savoury things instead of a sweet tooth(to which I hc Ghost as) but he might be a lil weak for a good ol milk butter round candy
another is he has high alcohol tolerance, but he likes to act like he's drunk as hell just for fun
A song that reminds of that character
you know what? this probably ties in with the hc and the next question but this song...I just feel like Soap knows what it's like to be lonely
An unpopular opinion about that character
I...actually think. that Soap doesn't have a big family that many others has hc him to have.
I like to think he has a good family yes, ma and pa holds a special place in his heart, but no siblings and nothing.
