Apparently it has a title, synopsis, and release date?? Not sure when all this info dropped but dang, I’m excited!
Edit: oh also, Villains Realm? LOVING the title, sounds so cool
Now let’s just hope it actually releases when it says it will (not holding my breath)
Here are some things I’m hoping for in this book:
The parents talking about their fight with Ursula
Some actual continuity with the Fairlies (change Storey’s name back to Mattie PLEASE)
I’m desperate for at least a mention of Wayne (I know he’s probably dead because he’s ancient but c’mon, the people need to know.
Some more crossing over. There didn’t seem to be much in the first book.
Edit: I also wouldn’t mind if the villains “won” in this one, and all the villain’s realms got built. It would 1) fit the title and 2) set up SUPER high stakes for the 3rd book. The KKs jobs would get so much harder with villains parks built

you know, inheritance may not be done super well but there is something about seeing the keepers be such close friends that their children canonically think of themselves as cousins and refer to them as their aunts/uncles that just does it for me

wait so do all of the in-laws want grandchildren…?
I don't see all of the TWST in-laws pushing their sons to have children. But some of them, due to differing circumstances, might encourage or even require (You) Yuu and their son to have children.
Here's a list of characters that I think may face such expectations from their families:
Draconia Family: Malleus is one of the last known surviving members of the Draconia bloodline, alongside his grandmother, the current queen of Briar Valley. There are only 2 Draconias left, as far as we know. As royalty in the fae world, lineage is crucial for both political stability and the continuation of magical traditions. It would be expected that Malleus, upon marriage, should have children to secure the continuation of the Draconia line and ensure that the legacy of the fae kingdom persists. His family—and the broader fae community—might consider it his royal duty to produce an heir to maintain the kingdom's strength and heritage. Ensuring that they will still have a Draconian ruler should time come to pass.
Shroud Family: The Shroud family carries a heavy legacy of responsibility and duty, they need to continuously manage S.T.Y.X. As keepers of Tartarus/Phantoms, tied to life and death, it’s likely that they would expect a successor. In the case of Idia, his introverted nature might make this pressure even more overwhelming. I imagine Idia might be reluctant to bring another Shroud into the world given their curse. However, the need for a capable heir to continue the Shroud family’s responsibility is expected of him.
Kingscholar Family: As a member of the royal family of Sunset Savanna, Leona’s position as the second prince places him in a complicated situation. Though he is not the crown prince, there might still be an expectation for him to have children, especially if something happens to the direct heir (If Falena's direct line, Cheka is affected). Royal families typically focus on ensuring the continuation of their bloodline, and it does not exempt him from the weight of these expectations. There could be pressure from his family to contribute to the royal line’s security, ensuring the Kingscholar's leadership for future generations.
Al-Asim Family: The Al-Asim family is one of immense wealth and power, with a significant focus on maintaining their influence and control over their business empire. As the heir to this massive fortune, Kalim is likely to face pressure to marry and have children to secure the family’s continued prosperity. Having an heir would not only ensure the Al-Asims remains powerful but would also provide continuity in leadership, safeguarding the family’s wealth and influence across generations.
Ashengrotto Family: Though Azul's family is well, 'normal' in this context, there may be societal or even personal expectations for him to have an heir, particularly if his business empire continues to grow. Azul, particularly his maternal lineage are notable mages in the Coral sea. I imagine there will be unsaid pressure for him to continue his Ashengrotto line. He is a shrewd businessman and Azul may view having an heir as securing a legacy, someone to inherit and manage the empire he will build in the future. His goal to have an heir is maybe more of a personal ambition rather than familial or societal demands.
Leech Family : The Leech twins come from a very different perspective, the other chaotic, while the other one relishes in chaos. It is said that their family manage successful businesses in both land and sea. If we consider the Leech family as akin to mobsters or powerful figures in the merfolk world, their business operations likely extend across various places, possibly using both legal and less-than-legal means to expand their influence. With such a network, there is a strong sense of obligation to ensure that the family's control and legacy continue into the next generation. In this case, Floyd and Jade, despite their chaotic nature, would be expected to contribute to the family line to preserve the power structure their family has built.
Or Jade, and Floyd would just want to have children just for the fun of it. Who knows, really. ;))

Let's talk books. Sorted in threes by vibes.
-------
I Support Women's Wrongs (murder, slaughter and body horror galore).
---
Tumblr media
How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ by Django Wexler - A woman from Earth is dropped into a magical realm, meant to save the Kingdom from the FoRCes of DaRKneSSss... except, unfortunately that might have been a thousand years worth of time loops ago, so it's rather time to lose one's temper and decide to become the Dark Lord herself.
Main character -> basically Deadpool (measured in sanity, humor and levels of bisexual horniness)).
Someone You Can Build a Nest In ⭐⭐⭐⭐ by John Wiswell - Shesheshen, a shapechanging monster who's rudely interrupted during her hibernation by hunters. Manages to to eat one of them, unfortunately she also gets shot by an arrow and falls off a cliff. On the bright side she meets a lovely human woman she might end up falling in love with so much... she'll want to build a nest in her (it's possible there's some Cultural Differences that need to be worked through).
Hench ⭐⭐⭐⭐ by Natalie Zina Walschots - Anna's latest temp job for a villain (because even supervillains need office help) ends with her carelessly injured by a superhero, laid off and with injured mobility for the foreseeable future (because human bodies don't see much difference between getting hit by a truck and getting moved out of way by someone able to pick up a truck). Angry, disillusioned, and looking for some vengeful payback she starts compiling the statistics of exactly how much suffering gets left behind the heroes and in quick order finds a new job working for one of the worst supervillains in the neighborhood.
-------
Extremely Competent Women Show Up to Fix Everyone's Shit (with a whallop of romance which was actually sweet instead of irritating)
---
Tumblr media
The Witchwood Knot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ by Olivia Atwater - Winifred Hall was invited to the Witchwood Manor under the pretense of being the governess for a very bratty kid, but when said boy suddenly turns into a very quiet and perfectly bland boy overnight it's very obvious her charge has been stolen by faeries (and it might have something to do with the actual reason she's there). Rescue however is complicated by some factors, one, there being something terribly dark and wrong about the house (normal houses don't have screaming faces in the walls), another, the faerie man posing as the manor's butler who would very much like to make her run screaming the way so many servants had before her (unfortunately for him, she's not even half as scared of him as she is the eyes of the father of her charge).
This one's about dealing with past trauma, and otherworldly terrors paling in comparison to mundane monsters, set in a very beautiful and dark and shiver-inducing Victorian time world where the Fair Folk are very real.
(Same world as her Regency Faerie Tales trilogy that Started with Half a Soul but it's not necessary to read that one first to enjoy this one)
Keeper of Enchanted Rooms ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ by Charlie N. Holmberg - Merritt Fernsby inherits a house only to be immediately taken hostage by what turns out to be a very stubborn and opinionated magical house. Hulda Larkin of the Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms goes there to facilitate the relationship between the house and its new owner.
It's supposed to be a very simple job. Unfortunately there's a third POV character in this book (no, not the Whimbrel House, though I adore that house and *insert here the Rosa Diaz gif about her new puppy and how she would kill everyone in this room and then herself if anything were to happen to that dog*). Anyway, they're a bit... uhhh... let's go with Bad News.
Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ by Heather Fawcett - As one might expect from the title, Emily (a Cambridge scholar) wants to write the first ever encyclopedia of faeries. And she's brilliant enough to do it, what she's terrible at is people (*insert autistic character alert here*).
Someone else might then say it's lucky that a fellow scholar with a far easier time at charming people has stuck his toes in her reaserch trip into the Hidden Ones... that person however doesn't understand how irritating, frustrating and maddening her academic rival Wendell Bambleby actually is.
What follows is a story filled with winter snows, some terrible fae, some adorable fae, some not-very-secret fae, the goodest of good dogs, and lots and lots of squabbling. It's the best.
-------
Dark and Impactful Stories about Children Who Decide on Their Own Paths
---
Tumblr media
A Skinful of Shadows ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ by Frances Hardinge - Kate, an orphan and the illegitimate daughter of some stuffy (and evil) aristocrats runs away because being a bastard doesn't mean she didn't inherit the family magic that allows her to get possessed by the dead.
A dead bear ghost is one thing, a Get Out situation is something else entirely.
A Sorceress Comes to Call ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ by T. Kingfisher - Cordelia isn't allowed friends or the privacy of closed doors, and whenever she's done something she shouldn't - a category too unpredictable to guard against - she's not allowed power over her own body.
Because her mother is an evil sorceress (think Regina and Cora... except somehow even worse). An evil sorceress that has found herself a Squire to lure into a marriage.
Hester is an old maid living with her brother, a Squire (well look at them coincidences), when said brother acquires a woman clearly set on his fortune. The plan is only to save her brother, except Hester can't help noticing how the woman's daughter keeps flinching in her mother's presence.
In The Lives of Puppets ⭐⭐⭐⭐ by TJ Klune - A family can be an android inventor, his human son (*homoromantic asexual alert*), a sadistic nurse droid, and a very emotional roomba.
And it can be a very happy family. Until one uncovers and wakes up an android that shares a very Skynet past with one's father, said father gets kidnapped, and one has to go on a journey to get him back.
(A book I like to call Sci-fi Reverse Pinocchio)
-------
Unraveling an Unjust System (and a hero that - on a scale from occasionally to constantly - hears a disembodied voice directly in their heads okay the connection between these three is a bit of a stretch but they're all great books so shut up)
---
Tumblr media
Hell for Hire ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ by Rachel Aaron - 5000 years ago Gilgamesh conquered the heavens, enslaved the demons and made it so that the only road to magic humanity had access, was through him.
Now, however a mercenary team made up of free demons gets hired by a Blackwood witch to protect him (and his familiar, the talking cat named Boston) while he puts down roots (literally) inside the new forest grove he's about to start so that he can stand up against the warlocks after him.
The witch quickly becomes the best client Bex and her crew have ever had (after all, warlocks under the rule of the Eternal King Gilgamesh are slavers of their kind, they are delighted at the chance to kill some).
Vespertine ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ by Margaret Rogerson - In a world where the veil between the living and the dead has been kinda broken Artemisia (*another autistic character alert*) is training to be a Gray Sister (magic nun).
Until her convent gets attacked by possessed soldiers and she has no choice but to pick up a Saint's Relic containing a malevolent revenant to protect it.
Problem. Only a Vespertine is supposed to do it. Another problem. The only one "alive" who can teach her to be a Vespertine is the revenant. Another another problem. The revenant cannot be trusted and if she loses control to it, the death toll will be counted in cities.
Terminal Alliance ⭐⭐⭐⭐¾ by Jim C. Hines - Post Zombie Apocalypse, where some aliens showed up, sort of cured the zombies and took the (mostly) cured zombies into their military.
Which leads us to Marion Adamopoulos, also known as Mops, the Leutenant in charge of Shipboard Hygene and Sanitation of the Earth Mercenary Corps Ship Pufferfish.
Right up until a bioweapon turns the entire crew except her crew back into zombies. Congratulations, she's the captain now.
(Space Janitors save the universe story).

maybe i have been watching/reading too many period pieces but i’m kinda digging the whole forbidden love trope
like imagine princess reader and peasant schlatt (or vice versa) and they are so incredibly in love but they can’t let anybody know
OHMY GOD I JS GOT REMINDED OF A LITTLE THING I WROTE BACK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL N ILL USE IT HERE OMG
Tumblr media
in your kingdom, alcohol was to say the least, taboo for royalty, it was a “peasant drink” and strictly forbidden for you.
you could never get a drink which would be fine if you didn’t have the curiosity to taste it. you just wanted a sip or two, not too crazy or anything.
you had gotten fed up one night, so you had waited until everyone in the castle had fallen asleep and snuck out. you had made sure to completely hide yourself and your identity, wearing peasant clothes and a large black cloak as you walked through the streets to a tavern.
for the first time, you had truly experienced freedom, drinking beer after beer and flirting with the handsome tavern keeper who kept on offering you free drinks.
somehow you had ended up drunk and in his house as he tried to sober you up.
he gently patted your back and held your hair as you threw up into the toilet. he brought you water and whatever else you needed to go through your first time drunk.
somehow, that had only helped make it a weekly occurrence.
you would visit the bar once a week, getting drunk and flirting with the keeper you had soon learned was schlatt. he told you how he had inherited the tavern from a wizard that lost to him in a gamble and decided to keep it.
he only spruced up the place a little and added drinks. you were interested in his stories and how he got to experience the world while you remained within the walls of your kingdom, never even getting to step close to the borders, but how you dreamed of it.
you were almost tempted to run away with him, to leave your life behind and run far away from the world you had long gotten bored of, a world full of manners and being proper, being perfect.
around schlatt you never had to be perfect, you could laugh and choke on drinks from how hard you laughed, you could get drunk and have fun.
the world you had grown so used to could wither and fade, become nothing and you wouldn’t care less as long as schlatt was there. he could ask you to leave everything you’ve ever known behind and go travel the world with him and you’d do it in a heartbeat.
you would go seeking adventure and joy, living life underneath the stars and skies. you could see the world.
but you knew you couldn’t.
your loyalties lie in ruling the kingdom, that’s what’s been engraved into you since you were born. you couldn’t humiliate your family by running off with a tavern keeper, despite it feeling right in your heart, you knew it would humiliate your family for generations to come.
you knew it would break their hearts if you up and left. not just that but the ridicule they would receive for their only daughter had chosen to elope with a peasant, much less one that sells alcohol.
you could leave with schlatt, never to be seen again and to enjoy your life as your heart desired, but if you did, it would be at the cost of your family.
so you would rather stick with sneaking out in the middle of the night, the secret kisses when no one else is around, the secrecy of schlatt’s home and what happens behind closed doors over permanently damaging your family.
while your kingdom could wither and die, your heart must, in order to help it prosper, to help the people you were born to protect.
it is what you must do
that doesn’t mean a stolen kiss or two can’t help your heart prosper
even just a little

I feel like I could make a neat fic series out of the Usher kids' name meanings
Like a series of character studies through the lens of their names' etymologies.
FREDERICK: Peaceful ruler. Control freaks shouldn't be spineless, it's awfully frustrating for them. He wants to be in charge but is a conflict avoidant suck-up, insecure and petty. A peace-time king, no glory to his name, inheriting from a warrior and a sorceress who fought and bit and clawed. Under real challenge, he crumbles. A peace-time king becomes known from one of two things: that which they build and that which they heal. A peace-time king who is sung about? Bridge-builders, feeders of the poor; castle-builders, patrons of the arts; church-builders, tenders of the sick. But Frederick does not focus on the kingdom that has already been built, on the legacy to be preserved. Instead he longs for new lands to conquer, and new legacies to write. Outside his castle gates, the poor starve and the sick die and the artists are forced to take new jobs. I weep for bridges never built.
TAMERLANE: Iron. Cold and sharp and inflexible. A sword, a gun, a railroad track, an imposing bridge, an unassailable gate. She thinks she's invincible, but impurities and brittleness remain: she is not yet steel and ultimately never became steel. In the end, the fire does not cleanse or forge her: she simply melts away. We inherited iron from the dying stars of eons ago: it is in our blood, it gives us energy and strength and without we waste away to nothing. This is actually a boy's name, which is FASCINATING. How many women in history were buried beneath the legacies of their fathers and brothers and sons? So she hardened and sharpened and tried to prove herself.
VICTORINE: Victory. Locked in competition with her siblings, particularly Camille. She does whatever it takes to "win": arguments, pissing contests, "at life", against death. When Roderick reveals his CADASIL diagnosis, Victorine is the weapon he and Madeline attempt to wield against the disease, as if she can "beat" the deal they struck. She constantly tries to position herself as allied with Tammy and Frederick, on the "winning" team, on the side of the "legitimate" children. She lies, she cheats, and refuses to give her medals back when she's caught. Her nickname, 'Vic', is also cop show slang for 'victim'. She thinks these things happen TO her, not BECAUSE of her...but all of the kids are Roderick and Madeline's victims. He ruined her. Like he ruined all of them. Pyrrhic Victory indeed.
CAMILLE: This name can mean "perfect" or it can mean "acolyte", and either one can work, but I lean more towards the second meaning. A young initiate into a cult (here meaning the organized followers of a particular god, not the Lifton style destructive cult) there to spread the myth and carry on the traditions. She is the keeper of secrets and the teller of stories, isolated from the outside world, steeped in ritual for ritual's sake. Priests and priestesses may have employed psychedelic drugs and illusionist tricks to awe and entertain their followers or indue holy visions. Female cult initiates were often unmarried priestesses: either through widowhood or refusing to marry when young. Mystery cults were hidden or secret traditions, often focused on mystical re-interpretation of the mainstream tradition.
NAPOLEON: So the best translation for this name that we have is "Lion of Naples" or "Lion of the New City". Focusing on the "Lion" part, lions are social and lazy, most active at night. Males orbit the periphery while females form the heart of the unit. Male lions hunt alone, often as ambush predators, but general misconception is that they do not hunt at all, due to "failing" at it, compared to females. Furthermore, male lions will form "coalitions" with other males as opposed to priding up with females and cubs (Asiatic lions in particular are prone to this) and lions are one of the primary species in which we have observed bisexuality among males. Finally, lions make great dads and Leo is one of the only siblings who shows genuine grief over the family's losses.
PROSPERO: Prosperity or Fortunate. His name is symbolic of the changing tides of fortune, and is a reference to Fortunado itself. He was only 16 when he became a legitimized heir. That's a hard age to adjust to all that. He is gluttonous and lustful, soaking up every little bit of the privilege his family money gives him. What is the point of gull eggs, exactly? He is blessed with beauty: so much of it that even Verna comments on it. He assumes his blessings will never run out, and plays with fire by attempting to commit mass blackmail and ignoring all the red flags about the party venue, yet, at the same time? He thinks the world still owes him something more. Everything must be handed to him. It is his birth right, all of it. Earning it is for the unlucky: he is blessed.

so i read the kingdom keepers: inheritance books and here’s what many things i didn’t like vs what little i liked about the plot:
what i liked !!
- the kids weren’t carbon copies of their parents (kinda). like i enjoyed how blair maybeck-turner wasn’t an artist or have an “artist’s eye” like her dad. she’s her own person!
- the mention of how dillard’s d**th caused series mental problems for finn. this is extremely important to finn as a character & i am glad to hear how it’s something that just doesn’t go away, but still matters to finn.
- the kids weren’t chosen as replacement dhi’s. after the absolute crazy ass trauma the keepers went through for so many teen years, i am glad they didn’t allow their kids to be famous faces for disney!
that’s pretty much it….like that’s all i enjoyed
what i didn’t like !!
- the lack of og characters !! i know it’s time for new characters to shine but this is a kingdom keepers continuation! why is there so so little mentions of philby & willa ?! they are keepers, the fandom love them and love them together, & Ridley knows this….so where are they?! where are the other og characters?! why don’t we see maybeck, charlene, and jess more?!
- where’s wanda kresky ?! she could’ve been like the new wayne for the new keepers !!
- i wanted to see moments of the og kingdom keeper’s parents helping them overcome the worry of their kids fighting OTs. like where is mrs. whitman and her famous cookies comforting her son & daughter-in-law while they worry about eli in book 1?!
- eli is overpowered. i understand he gets his “push” abilities from his mom, i am 100% okay with that. but why communications with animals too? why did he but no other fairlie get an extra power?!
- speaking of overpowered, idk how i feel about fairy godmother. like she just uses insane amounts of magic at these kids every whim. like where were you back when the og keepers were risking their lives nightly?! instead of being dhi’s we get her?
- didn’t ridley say fairlie parents all are d**d? or was imagining that. if not, how are the whitman and ranjels still alive?!
- the weird ass mix up between mattie weaver’s reading ability suddenly given to story?!
- isn’t there a dhi dillard alive(?) somewhere? and why does finn’s mf son and the other kids only know him as Finn’s old friend and not uncle dillard?! or sh*t even dillard or mr. cole?! (he deserves an uncle title after everything he did to help the keepers).
- the whole shimmer concept was confusing and weird.
- WHY ISN’T WAYNE MENTIONED MORE ?! the man who formed the damn group is mentioned in passing like once. like wtf. (in my personal opinion, eli’s middle name is wayne, but that’s just my idea)
- book 3 includes breaking all laws in this damn universe by casually introducing time travel, and have them go to like a week before. what if they check security feeds like the og keepers did or another form of high tech, not CASUALLY INTRODUCE TIME TRAVEL!!
- if he were to use time travel, it should have made the kingdom kids go back to their parents as young keepers to ask for help or something i would have LOVED that.
there’s a lot more i didn’t like, maybe i’ll do a part two, but here’s the last thing that i REALLY didn’t like.
- WHY ON EARTH are the kingdom keepers letting their kids do this, especially on their own. finn mentions how he understands what eli is going through, and tells him to be careful. and that’s it !! not “let me help you son, if you’re doing something that is a life or d**th situation that i’ve been through multiple times before, let me and your aunt and uncle’s help you.” NOPE! just “good luck I guess lol please don’t d*e. see you at dinner.” THE KINGDOM KEEPERS I KNOW WOULD NEVER LET THEIR KIDS DO THIS ON HIS OWN, THEY WOULD HELP!!

Stuff about the Royals AU
Basically in this au all the ninja are actually literal royalty and rule their own kingdoms and stuff. They eventually become friends/ allies but it takes a while. Here's some info about the characters and their kingdoms in the beginning:
Kai Jiang (using that name because it fits the story better) is the soon-to-be Emperor of the Inferno Peaks islands (basically Hawaii). He actually has very little power, even after actually becoming
emperor because the hierarchy is set up like Shogunate Japan. They have minimal contact with the other kingdoms. Krux is the Shogun. Kai doesn't really care about running the kingdom.
Nya Jiang is the princess and diplomat for the Inferno Peaks islands. She visits the other kingdoms often to keep up their diplomatic relations. She is trained as a Samurai by watching Kai train. Nya would love to become the Empress one day but knows it isn't possible.
Cole Brookstone is the prince of the Shintaro Mountains, his father is the king, but only by a technicality. Queen Lily was the one who inherited the title. His father sends him away on diplomatic missions because Lou sucks at being a dad in the beginning. Cole eventually becomes friends with Jay.
Jay Walker was adopted by Ed and Edna Walker, two eccentric inventors who live in the Southern parts of The Keepers Isle. The Keepers Isle are ruled by the King or Queen with the help of the Keepers Council. The current Queen is Raeden Gordon. Oh yeah Jay is bi ig not much to say here.
Zane Julien is the son of Doctor Julien, who also happens to be an eccentric inventor (how did I not notice this before??). They live together in the Birch Wood Forests of the Frozen Kingdom. The Frozen Kingdom is currently being ruled by the previous Ice Emperor's nephew whose freaking out trying to figure out who his uncle gave his powers to.
And finally, Lloyd Garmadon. Lloyd Garmadon is a rascal who ran away from school. He is around 15-16 years old and spends a lot of time getting into trouble and stowing away on ships.
And that's all, folks.

Hellooo Mr. Haitch!
Since you're a former literature prof., which is what I happen to be studying, I was wondering what books you like recommending to people? Genre doesn't matter, just interested in what your literary tastes are (^-^ )
What a dangerous question. I'll focus on the books that profoundly affected me and a few reasons why.
Red Shift/The Owl Service by Alan Garner
I lump these two together a lot, because they're thematically linked. The Owl Service is an easier read, being an early YA novel but there's a feeling to it that's profoundly disturbing - three young people in rural Wales forced to play out a love triangle from Welsh mythology that typically ends in betrayal and murder. Red Shift is also concerned with time but it yanks you back and forth through large stretches of history, and in each episode a young man tries desperately to be loved and understood. It's weird, sometimes challenging to follow, and overwhelmingly sad at times.
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin
Jemisin's impact on fantasy cannot be overstated, and this book is where that impact was most keenly felt. She dumps out the inherited tropes of fantasy and inspects each in turn, destroying what is no longer helpful, and cherishing those of enduring value. An, ostensibly, white powerful monarchy has enslaved the gods - leaving the world paralysed beneath their heel. Love it
The Daevabad Trilogy by SA Chakraborty
Picking up where Jemisin left off, Chakraborty's trilogy about djinn and daeva locked in a (initially) cold civil war in a holy city is fundamentally about intergenerational trauma and our place within messy historical contexts. Complex, sometimes harrowing, but endlessly brilliant.
Finders Keepers by Stephen King
I didn't get along with the rest of the Mr Mercedes trilogy, and there are better King novels out there but none that I love as much as Finders Keepers. It's a love letter to literature about the transformativel power of stories, as well as the dangers of obsession.
Slaughterhouse 5/God Bless You Dr Kevorkian by Kurt Vonnegut
I love Vonnegut's work, his voice, his outlook, and I find it hard to choose between these two. Slaughterhouse 5 is, on the one hand, a novel about WWII, but it's also about time travel, death, and looking for meaning. God Bless You Dr Kevorkian is just lovely. No other word for it - it's lovely, a hug in a book where everyone is embraced with love and humour.
Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
A lot of people wrote this book off when Oprah and her ilk praised and elevated it, but I know they missed the point - because nothing changed. Put simply it's about a jaded environmentalist receiving history lessons from an intelligent and telepathic gorilla, who teaches him an alternate history to the world - history according to gorillas. There's a lot of ruminations about the nature of stories and culture here and it is WELL WORTH YOUR TIME, although you might not be the same person once you've finished reading it.
(Non fiction now)
Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher
Mark Fisher was brilliant, in spite of the transphobic nonsense he embraced towards the end of his life. Capitalist Realism is often the book I suggest to people when they're overwhelmed by a fundamental feeling of wrongness, that there's just something bad in the world that they can't put their finger on. Fisher hits most, if not all of the key points you might need to understand why. His The Weird and the Eerie is also fantastic.
We Need New Stories by Nesrine Malik
A book about prevailing cultural and political narratives, with a good deal of depth without getting stuck in the weeds. This helped me unpack a lot of my own thinking when I was doing my own PHD and I'd strongly recommend it.
American Holocaust by David Stannard
MASSIVE CONTENT WARNING: I recommend this whole heartedly but it is a graphic detailing of the horrors of European colonialism in the Americas. It will challenge and uproot a great many beliefs or suppositions you might have about history, but it will leave its scars. Necessary but painful.
The Human Planet by Lewis and Maslin
The anthropocene is at the heart of my work, and this is probably the definitive book in my mind that's accessible to the general reader. Persuasive and detailed but also accessible.
Zen in the Art of Writing by Ray Bradbury
This book should be essential reading for every creative writing class. Read it and you'll see why.
[I'll stop there as I could go on endlessly]

Hey it's me the new follower of you can I request again if I can I want to request about honkai star x reader , I'm a Filipino and there is one favorite series on TV it's a encantadia and Encantadia is a Philippine television drama fantasy series broadcast by GMA Network. The series is based on a 2005 Philippine television series of the same title. It served as a reboot and the fourth television series in the Encantadia franchise and the reader is amihan, Amihan is a major character from the Philippine fantasy television series Encantadia and Etheria produced by GMA Network. Among the four elemental Sang'gres, she is considered as the main protagonist, having appeared in the First Episode. Amihan is the guardian of the blue Brilyante ng Hangin / wind
Sang'gre Amihan of Lireo, Rehav of Sapiro, was the fifth Hara / queen of Lireo. She was born in the Kingdom of Lireo during the War between Sapiro and Hathoria, as the second daughter of the Hara Minea of Lireo and the only daughter of Rehav Raquim of Sapiro. As Lireo's monarch, she was also the keeper of the kingdom's Air Gem. She became the mother of Lira and the lover of Rehav Ybrahim.
Amihan is willing to sacrifice her life for the sake of Lireo and all of Encantadia; a trait inherited by her only daughter, Lira. Despite Danaya's ( her sister) protest on her plan, using Lira in order to persuade her, Amihan countered that her sacrifice is also for Lira's welfare, to ensure a future is possible for her especially she is the successor to the Diwata throne.
the character is Dan heng, Jing yuan , welt, gepard and luocha
And take care of yourself , sorry if it's long I hope you can do my request
-----♡
A/N: Hello! Thank you for this very interesting request! I was however a little confused on what you wanted me to write about and I tried my best to understand everything as much as I could, so I'm sorry of this is not what you wanted. I was just really confused, but intrigued. So yeah, I made something up with what that you gave me and hope you'll like it!<33
Summary: Hsr men stopping you from sacrificing yourself for your kingdom.
Content: Established relationship, some angst, fluff, mentions of sacrifices/death(?), still mostly sfw(?)
Reader has no set pronouns!
((Not fully proofread))
-----♡
》Welt Yang
Tumblr media
Welt would absolutely not let you even consider going that far. He'll try coming up with solutions to any problems and give you advice on how to proceed without anyone getting hurt. The last thing he wants is to lose you too.
If you're insisting on your stance on the topic, then he'll try persuading you gently into understanding that he won't let you do that and that he'll find a different way to keep the kingdom safe.
Either way, he'd take your protection into his own hands and make sure, you won't have to worry about a thing with him around. He cares about you and your kingdom, which is why he won't let you just die on him. It's impossible to go through with it, when he's there, that's for sure.
-----♡
》Dan Heng
Tumblr media
Dan Heng would want to know about all possible outcomes and every single detail first, before proceeding with his next move. He wouldn't let you sacrifice himself either and help you and your kingdom out in more productive ways.
He doesn't underestimate your abilities to take care of yourself and therefore encourages you to fight first, instead of sacrificing yourself. He doesn't want you to die on him either. He couldn't fathom losing you.
If things come to a head, he'd rather sacrifice himself, before you get a chance to do so. He'll protect you with his life and he always tells you so, even if you don't want to hear it.
Trying to fool him or trick him won't work either. He knows everything about you and would stop you from doing anything foolish. Even if he has to restrain you physically himself. He won't let you die, no matter what.
-----♡
》Gepard Landau
Tumblr media
Being the Captain of the Silvermaneguards pays off greatly here, as he could use his expertise and knowledge to guide you into better strategies than you sacrificing yourself.
He however understands your will to die for your kingdom, as he endangers his life out on the front lines practically everyday for his city. But even so, he does it to protect his loved ones and you count too ofcourse, which is why he wouldn't want you to outright sacrifice yourself.
He'll keep you close and safe, never out of his sight. Trying to fool him or going behind his back to proceed with your plans wouldn't work either, as he'd be your personal guard in everything. He just wants you to stay alive and happy. If he has to die instead for it, then so be it.
-----♡
》Jing Yuan
Tumblr media
As a General, he has enough manpower and intelligence to keep you and your kingdom safe and sound from any threats. You don't need to worry about a thing with him around and he makes sure you know, that he'll always be there.
Whilst he understands the want to sacrifice yourself for the kingdom, he still would definitely stop you from going that far. He thinks that there are more better ways to handle the situation and will make sure you never get that far.
Don't try going behind his back either, he'll know if you try anything. He'll find it even a little amusing, that you think he wouldn't notice what you're doing, but alas, he'll keep you close and tell you that he'll deal with all your issues. He just doesn't want to lose you.
-----♡
》Luocha
Tumblr media
Luocha is very calm and collected, never losing his cool once, when you tell him about your plans. He'll just simply listen to you speak, trying to weigh out the options, before dismissing your plan completely, telling you that there won't be any need for such drastic measures.
He'll make up a whole, more effective plan for you, showing you that there is still so much you could do, instead of just outright sacrificing yourself. He's just so convincing with his intelligent and calculated words, that it actually makes you reconsider everything.
If you however insist, he'll still not budge on his stance and keep you out of any trouble himself. Maybe he'll even ask your family to help, but he won't let you get hurt no matter what. You still have a long life to spend with him, after all.
-----♡
A/N: I hope this was alright! I'm sorry again, if I got it wrong and hope you liked it anyways. Thank you again for the cool request!<33

Day 6: Star Gazing
Whoops I missed a day :/ Here to catch up, though!
This time, I got one for one of my OC's. She's from the little world I've been building, though I haven't posted much about it yet. Kinda inspired by Avatar and She-Ra, its got elements and magic stuff, blah blah blah I'll talk about it when I'm more confident about the whole concept.
I did wanna try writing for it though. This is like almost 900 words so it aint too much. Hopefully it's worth your time.
===
From the moment she could properly comprehend anything, Jianne was trained for her future as Queen of Crystallis.
She was taught all the right etiquette. All the right things to say and do, and how exactly to act. How to dress and style herself properly. The right people to make friends with.
There was no time for childish daydreaming or frolicking. She had a duty to prepare for. The King wasn’t going to live forever, and Crystallis needed a monarch and Keeper to keep the magic and citizens in check.
Her future wasn’t her own anymore. Everything she said, did, and thought was for the kingdom.
…Most of the time. Not to say that she didn’t have her moments.
When the day was over and her rigid schedule done with, Jianne would retire to her room for the night, as she does. Most nights, however, she opened up the doors to the balcony, letting the evening breeze in. She’d take a deep breath of it in, and she’d feel herself relax.
Making her way outside, she’d tilt her head up and find the most lovely sight.
Stars.
Millions of pretty little dots all over the sky, twinkling and shining. Just like the shining, Crystal walls of the palace, but far out of her reach. There would always be curiosity about the forbidden or unreachable.
She’s been told stories that say that when someone dies, they become a star in the sky to continue watching over their family.
Sentimental, she figured. But she was mostly out for the stars not only because they were glittery and pretty, but also a nice change of pace compared to her day. She liked taking her time to count them, sometimes staying up all night just to do so.
Sometimes, she’d even end up falling asleep on the balcony for that. Or even sleeping at a far too late of an hour. Or a mix of both. She’d face the reprimands and anger, but she knew she’d keep going there anyway.
Later on, her studies took up more and more of her time. She rarely found time for the star gazing she loved so much. She vowed that she’d still find a way to visit them, though, even if much less than before.
-
Rumors were spreading around about the King and his deteriorating health. Around the palace staff, who’ve overheard the family’s hushed whispers of worry. It spread to the staff. Through their own families. Whoever else heard it. Crystallis found itself in a tight spot, concerned for the King.
But Princess Jianne’s18 th birthday was coming up. Such concerns were momentarily forgotten to give way for the celebration. In case her father was to die, indeed, she would at least be of age to inherit the throne.
And celebrated her birthday they did. No matter how tired or drained he seemed, her father still got up and attended the festivities. Jianne, despite her anxiousness for her dad, tried her best to keep him entertained, at least. They partied on into the night, until the stars made their way into the sky.
He seemed happy and satisfied that evening when she bid him goodnight.
He was found dead the following morning.
Jianne found herself empty. Hollow. Grief-stricken.
In the solitude of her room, Jianne let her tears flow.
She couldn’t dwell on it too long, however.
There’d be so much to attend to. The wake, the funeral…
Her coronation.
-
At some points throughout the party, Jianne found herself struggling to maintain the perfect image. Her dad, and how she felt as if some of it was her fault. Did she exhaust him too much at their dance? Why didn’t she go say hi to him in the middle of the night, or something? She wasn’t there for a proper last goodbye…
She itched to get out of the room and back to her own balcony, where she could watch the stars for as long as she wanted.
Such thoughts only lasted a short while. To her guests, she was as cool, curt, and confident, already fixing herself into her new role. She shook hands with all the right guests. Smiled and laughed at all the right moments. Said all the right things and talked about the right topics.
She had after the party to look forward to. Everyone would be gone. She’d be left to her own devices.
But for now, she was just doing her part. And she was going to do it perfectly.
-
Even after all the guests left, Jianne wasn’t done. She had quite a few things to attend to.
Actually, few was a lie.
Not only were there many incomplete duties left behind by the previous monarch, but she also had new things of her own to work on. Laws and petitions she had to read over, individual concerns, taxes, the other nations, the war…
The stars had to wait.

i liked some things about kk: inheritance book two: villains' realm... it was certainly better than the first kk: inheritance book, and with them literally announcing the real villains' world at d23 like two days ago, there's something kinda cool about that... but it's nowhere near as good as the first 10 books in the series. and there are weird editorial mistakes and typos that seem strange for a book with so many eyes on it??
also for real, why did charlie twice refer to his father being a kingdom keeper as if his mother... wasn't also one. i liked getting to see more of charlie, and i still think blair is the best character in the sequel series. the "notorious FGM" joke got a little old. i liked seeing tiana. and the idea of "we have to find the places in these two disney parks that correlate to each other" (sleeping beauty castle in paris and disneyland) was neat.
also why didn't the jungle cruise skippers make jokes. the jungle cruise skippers should've made jokes.
