#knitting with adhd

every project i’ve started in the past week…….. i’m at the point where i have to bargain with my adhd to finish two projects before i can cast on a new one 😩

Self-taught one work-in-progress at a time so that there’s some beginner stuff I don’t know and advanced stuff that I do know and I will forever be making silly beginner mistakes in complex projects that I’ll probably never complete :)

isn't it weird how if you get up at 7 or 8, do your work all day, then have free time and go to bed at 11 that's absolutely fine

but if i said i get up at 10, do fun stuff in the morning then work in the evening and go to bed late, i could be called lazy, nevermind that i'm getting just as much or MORE work done as i would in a traditional work day

maybe unpopular opinion but probably one of the least useful pieces of advice I've ever got as an auDHD person to the question of "how tf does one make friends" was to go and join clubs/groups that do hobbies I enjoy. Not only does this not actually answer the question of how to make friends (yknow, how to approach people, how to start a conversation, how to appear friendly enough that they don't immediately reject you for existing, how to actually keep them as friends later on, etc), but also the chance of me choosing to force myself into the discomfort of "making smalltalk with random strangers" is absolutely nonexistent when the alternative of engaging with a hyperfixation is not only socially acceptable but even encouraged

So I have a nervous stim where I rub the palm of my hand and I’ve rubbed it completely raw. I’ve been really struggling to find a way to not do it so my hand can heal. I made this, super simple, single crochet in a round that fits around my hand, attach a chain around the thumb and then more single crochet. So far it’s worked pretty well. I can still rub it, and I don’t damage the skin more. So yeah this is a thing

I like to knit and baking as hobbies, and I understand where people are coming from when they're like, "When are you opening your etsy shop/bakery!!!" Like i get it, they're just giving me a compliment its nice. However, sometimes I just want to scream, "ID RATHER DIE THAN LEARN HOW TO DO BOOK KEEPING FOR A BUISNESS LET ME ENJOY MY LITTLE HOBBY WITHOUT CAPITALIZING ON IT"

Crafting is really just a series of going:

"No, you can't start a new project. You need to finish an old one first"

"But I **promise** that I'll finish this one!!"

"Okay, fine"

And then you add another unfinished project to the pile

not even a headcanon- he's probably checked out hundreds of "[insert skill here] for dummies!" and he does what he can with them until he defaults to playing video games

here are a pair of socks knit for someone in exchange for a handmade penannular brooch!!! i love having a little barter community 💕

no pattern, i just did math with my gauge! but for those who care about the technical bits these are toe-up socks with a k5, p1 rib knit on size 5 needles.

yarn is knitpicks chroma twist worsted in the color way “fathoms” and knitpicks wool of the andes worsted in the color way “ciel”

So here it is…the third picture in my knitwear series. I had abandoned it, but playing around with textures on the “Coat” series made gave me the confidence to have another crack at it and finally finish it. I’ve never drawn an older lady in my life, so this was a real challenge in more ways than one, but I learnt a lot from it.

In an effort to finish the sweater I started in January and then abandoned for Other Projects, I’m trying to do “30 Minutes of Knitting Making” a la Knitty Natty. And it’s only been a few days that I’ve been doing it but I’m finding my attention span to be soooo short, even though I have a podcast or something going too. I keep reaching for my phone and then putting it back like “No, bad brain! Focus!”

Anyway, the 30 minutes a day is working - I’ve made a lot more progress already than I expected, and now that I’ve started the decreases it will go even faster. So I’m accomplishing what I set out to do. And maybe I can also do a little brain-training while I’m at it?
