something i was thinking about.

i started a new book last week and it touched my heart in the first twenty pages, left me crying.

pack up the moon by kristan higgins is about a couple josh and lauren. lauren has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and she knows she's dying. to help him with the grieving process, she writes 12 letters to josh to give to him after she dies.

my physics teacher passed away on april 3rd, 24. i've known her since i was a kid, and she really watched me grow, learn, and mature.

when she knew she had ovarian cancer, she put herself on planes, cruises, she breathed the air by the cliffs and touched the sky. an ocean could not put out her fire.

the day she'd told her classes she'd be retiring from teaching, i just remember walking in the hall, and not a single eye was dry. i was practicing violin and i didn't even notice i was crying.

that's how i felt reading about lauren and josh. lauren's worry, not for herself but for her husband, is so raw but it's so real. the fact that mrs reina probably felt the same way, yet somehow kept the biggest smile on her face is why she is such a role model.

josh's grief is gut wrenching. he is empty and he is hollow because ipf tore his heart out as well as his wife's lungs.

thank you, kristan higgins, for the one of the most beautiful books i've ever read. heartbreak with some humor to break the fall.

to those who have lost a loved one, you can do it. it's normal to feel everything you are feeling, but one day it'll feel okay again.

Ho appena finito di vedere un drama cinese che inaspettatamente mi è piaciuto molto, si tratta di:

HIDDEN LOVE

Trama: Sang Zhi si è innamorata a tredici anni di Duan Jia Xu, l'amico di suo fratello maggiore, che ha cinque anni più di lei. Il suo amore non ha mai vacillato seppur tenuto segreto e quando ormai al primo anno di università lo reincontra il suo cuore gioisce. E anche lui ora che la vede adulta e la frequenta si rende conto di quanto gli sia cara e non come una sorellina minore, ma come qualcosa di più, che non ha mai conosciuto prima.

E' molto meno pieno di clichè, più lineare e meno drammatico della maggior parte dei drama cinesi, perciò ve lo consiglio se vi piace il tema: lei che si innamora del migliore amico del fratello.

Joshua possui autismo nível 1 de suporte, isso o faz ser mais retraído, com ansiedade social, poucos amigos e obcecado pelo trabalho e não tem ideia de como continuar sem a presença de Lauren do seu lado. Lauren, contudo, bola um plano para ajuda-lo a passar pelo primeiro ano de luto.

Que livro precioso! Confesso que eu parei de ler por algumas semanas pra digerir, é um assunto muito sensível, onde a gente se coloca no lugar dos protagonistas toda hora. Eu não tenho costume de ler romances ou dramas, eu sou mais do suspense psicológico ou thriller, então quando leio romances, eu acho fraco ou meio brega. Mas esse... eu realmente derramei algumas lágrimas lendo. Joshua é um personagem muito real. Eu consegui me conectar totalmente com ele. O fato de toda hora o livro voltar no tempo pra contar da história da Lauren me entediava um pouco porque eram coisas que eu não queria saber. Mas achei que valeu a pena por conta da cena em que mostra como eles conversaram pela segunda vez e finalmente começaram o relacionamento. Assim como gostei de terem deixado pra mostrar a morte dela de fato apenas no final. Isso fez eu sentir mais. O final pra mim foi perfeito, eu amei que ele conseguiu seguir em frente com uma outra pessoa. Mas na real, eu realmente estava torcendo pra que ele desse certo com a Sarah. Quando ela começou a ser uma babaca no restaurante do nada, eu fiquei sem entender porque ela foi legal durante o livro todo. Achei um pouquinho forçado o lance dele com a Rose faltando poucas paginas pro final, mas como eu disse, ele merecia isso. Ele merecia ser feliz novamente. Ele continua amando Lauren, isso nunca vai mudar, mas agora vai sentir outros tipos de amores também. No final, minha nota não poderia ser menos que 5 estrelas. Esse livro é o que vai me fazer procurar outros do mesmo gênero. Minhas favs: A cena dele com o pai biológico | Lauren chamando ele pra sair | Josh se consultando com a cartomante | Lauren partindo ☹ | Todos reunidos no final para plantar a árvore da Lauren, inclusive Rose.

I have just read "Pack Up the Moon" By Kristan Higgins like two days ago, literally read it in one day and it was so good. It is a very sad book, I honestly don't remember when was the last time I was crying the whole time while reading a book and that's exactly what I did reading this one. So I guess it's not for everyone, cause if you don't like sad books you probably shouldn't read it. But the story was both excruciatingly sad and beautiful.

And I don't know maybe it is a popular book in other countries, but it's not very popular in Poland, cause it's not even translated in polish but just wanted to recommend for anyone who is looking for a good read

New Blog: A Quandary, A Conundrum, A Dilemma

I have a quandary, a conundrum, a dilemma. I have a new book by one of my favorite authors and I am struggling to read it.  Not because of the characters; they are very interesting.  Not because of the story lines; I just read a similar book by another author.  It is because it is about Shakespeare and somehow I just missed the gene that finds him interesting and his writing superb.  So what do I do?  

Meanwhile I read another book online about Werewolves, wolves and people.  Again the wolves were broken down into packs with an Alpha and a Beta with their mates being called a Luna.  This time they added another category of wolves, called the omegas.  The lowest of all the classes where they are expected to be housekeepers and cooks, and seamstresses to the pack.  The book was called The Omegas Best Friend by Sasha Johnson.  I ended up reading it online at a site where it was free, however, quite often there were pages that were all messed up and perhaps in a different language.  I was never sure.

I also read Kristan Higgins’ newest book Look On the Bright Side.  What a great novel that was. I enjoyed the main character of Lark and her family.  I enjoyed the story line, although I did need tissues, a bunch of tissues.  The story line does go back and forth in time (staying with Lark).  There are also chapters with other characters being the narrator to tell various parts of the story.  The book was fascinating in that respect.  I really enjoyed it.  

Elise sent us in an interview with  Alyssa Maxwell about  two of her novels (Murder at the Elms and Murder at Vinland).  The novels take place during the gilded age in Newport RI.  Along with the historical aspect of the rich and famous people, there is a mystery to be solved in each book by Emma Cross.  Both of the books sound like fun reads.  Elise also sent us a review of the newest Tom Clancy Shadow State books written by M P Woodward featuring Jack Ryan.  

Meanwhile I am going to read another book…not about Shakespear.

Lark Smith is an MD who’s been ‘demoted’ from the oncology department to emergency medicine. Dr. Satan (Dr. Santini), a world renowned surgeon colleague, reaches out to her and asks her to be his fake girlfriend for his sister’s wedding to ease his elderly, and ailing, grandmother’s concerns for his future in exchange for money. She’s not interested, but when he tells her he’ll put in a good word with the oncology department, tenderhearted Lark agrees.

While this might seem like a great setup for a super fun and fluffy rom-com, it’s not that at all. It’s sooooo much more and it wound up being, for me, a book that I ignored my pending TBR list for, and wound up reading in three sittings.

Wow, this one brought me to both laughter and tears on a few occasions - I loved revisiting the Smith family, as first read about in Little Ray of Sunshine and reading Lark’s story was wonderful. The additional POV’s of Ellie (Smith family matriarch) and Joy (Lark’s landlady and friend) are terrific and one of Joy’s scenes had me smiling immensely.

The characters are well developed and the reader is quickly invested in them (I’d love to see future stories set back within the Smith family and I’d also like to see Dr Satan in a story of his own).

Kristan Higgins is an autoread author for me at this point and I fully enjoyed this and can’t wait to read more in the future.

**I’d suggest reading the previous novel - while this isn’t part of a series, the family is introduced and it’s also a great read.
