I Never Meant For You To Leave (Lab Rats One-Shot)
Because I was trying to protect my friends. And I'm still gonna protect my friends. That's right. You wanna send them away, you have to go through me first.
“You doing okay,” a voice asks. Chase looks up and sees Leo standing next to him.
“Oh yeah, I’m great, Leo. My best friend Sebastian turned out to be evil which makes both of my best friends turning out to be evil. So, why wouldn’t I be okay?!”
“Okay, I’m seeing it was a bad question, but I was checking up on you.” Leo sits down next to Chase.
“Yeah, I know.”
“Not all of your best friends have turned out to be evil, you know.”
“Both Marcus and Sebastian are both evil.”
“I’m going to pretend to not be offended by that remark because your hurting. I was talking about me, Chase. I’m not evil and we are best friends.”
“But your my brother. I’m not sure that counts.”
“Why wouldn’t it?”
“I don’t know, because your family.”
“What does that have to do with anything? In case you forgot, before we were brothers we were just friends.”
I'm the one who showed you the real world, Chase. I taught you what it means to be a brother.
“No. What I meant to say is that, Leo, you’ve always been more than just a friend… you’re different than other friends… you were my first friend… and Adam and Bree’s first friend too. Before you, we didn’t really have anyone besides Davenport and Eddie… it was pretty lonely before you showed up.”
Come on, Chase. I know my brother's in there. Where is he, Chase? Where is my brother?
“Your special to me too, you know. I never really had many friends or any before I met you guys. Mom was always working and I never met my real dad. I guess what I’m saying is that I was pretty lonely too before I met you guys.”
***
Maybe quitting your team wasn't enough. Maybe I need to quit being your brother, too.
Leo left the academy. That isn’t right. Leo doesn’t leave. He stays… always. It’s too quiet without Leo. Chase missed Leo. Well, everyone misses Leo.
“Was I too hard him? Yeah… probably was…” Chase ponders. “If I believed in him… If I didn’t doubt him… would he still be here?”
“Missing the kid,” Douglas asks.
Douglas sat down next to Chase. Chase is sitting alone the training room.
“Yeah… it’s my fault he left,” Chase starts, “I should have more faith in Leo.”
Leo, you're not ready to be a mentor, so stop complaining and start getting to know your fellow students
Douglas wouldn’t go so far as to blame Chase alone. Douglas has kept an eye on the kid for long time and grown to be very fond of him. Douglas has noted a shift on the kid’s behavior since coming to the island. Douglas put it down to the kid not being a mentor like the rest of the family. Douglas saw the matter deeper as just Leo’s ego and saw the matter as Leo wanting to just be his family’s equal. Douglas knew the feeling.
Douglas had foreseen Leo pint-up feelings that were bound to show up sooner or later coming for a long time now. Unfortunately, that Taylor kid got hurt in the process. It’s never a good thing to hold things in.
I got so frustrated, I punched the wall.
I can't believe you, Leo. Not only did you damage my brand-new academy, but you lied to me and betrayed my trust.
Douglas didn’t know who the blame when it came to Leo leaving. Maybe Donnie? Or Adam, Bree, and Chase for sidelining him? Douglas didn’t know. He wished now he had voiced his concerns for the kid to Donnie. Better yet, he should have told Tasha. That woman was force to feared when it came to her kids, especially Leo.
I'm very disappointed in you, Leo. But you took responsibility and you didn't leave Spin on the hook. You've learned a very valuable lesson today. As a student.
“Chase, its not your fault… not fully anyways.”
“What do you mean, Douglas?”
“You never noticed how upset the kid was these past couple months?”
“No… I should have.”
Douglas wondered if anyone here noticed how Leo was feeling. Douglas hasn’t even known the kid as long as the rest of them and he noticed. Did anyone pay attention to the kid on this island?
“Look, Chase, I’m not good that these kinda of talks… I do know this Leo hasn’t been the happiest since he’s been here. Leo never told me exactly why, but I know he wouldn’t want you sitting around here blaming yourself.”
“I’m his brother, Douglas! Leo should have told me. Why did he come to you and not me?”
“I don’t know. Maybe he did tell you and you didn’t listen. I don’t know. Now calm down. Getting all worked up isn’t going to help anything.”
Don't worry, Big D. We got this. Now, what exactly will I be teaching?
Nothing. You're a student.
A what? But you gave me a mission suit. You said I was part of the team!
Did Leo tell him that he was unhappy and he didn’t listen? How could he have missed that? How? Chase remembered that Leo was disappointed at not being a mentor at the Academy. Was that the reason Leo was unhappy? Chase thought Leo worked through that. Sure, Leo threw a minor temper fit after finding out he was student, but Leo seemed to okay with being student after that. Chase had noticed how hard Leo was training and was proud of him. Plus, it’s not like Adam, Bree, or Chase treated him differently because he was a student and he still got to go on missions. What was the problem?
Chase has had always thought Leo would happy not matter where he was and what he was doing as long as their family is together. Chase was wrong. “I guess I was wrong…” Chase thought. “I’m the smart one. I’m suppose to know what to do.”
“I’m his brother. I should have known.”
“Being brothers doesn’t mean know knowing everything about each other. Take Donnie and me, for example, he doesn’t know I’m banned from Vegas three time over for card counting. Don’t tell him. It’s best he doesn’t find out now.”
“How do you get banned from Vegas three times?”
“It’s better you don’t know.”
You should've stopped when I told you to. This just proves you're not ready to lead your own team.
I am more than ready. And maybe I wouldn't feel like I need to prove that to you guys if you weren't always looking down on me.
Chase thinks overs all the things he said to Leo the days leading up Leo departure. Was the award ceremony the start of all this or was this deeper? Did Leo really believe that his family looked down on him? And did his family look down on him?
Chase realizes that there was a lot of truth in what Leo was saying. They did look at Leo as just their little brother yet they still let Leo jump in the line of fire for them over and over again. Chase thinks back to all missions where Leo saved his life or Adam or Bree. Other times, Leo saved all of them at once.
Leo just saved our lives. That was supposed to be us.
He didn't need bionics to be a hero.
Did Chase and everyone else just take Leo being there for granted? Leo had always just been there since he stumbled into his life. Now he left. That wasn’t right. Chase began to wonder for the first time ever if Leo had a life before meeting Adam, Bree, or himself. Chase was starting to realize just how little he knew about Leo, his own brother.
Leo, we don't look down on you.
Yeah, we have total respect for all of your shortcomings.
When are you guys gonna stop treating me like I'm an idiot?!
Maybe when you stop acting like one.
“Did I really call Leo an idiot? I mean if anyone in the family is an idiot then it’s Adam,” Chase wonders. “How could have not seen how unhappy Leo was? Am I am bad brother for not realizing it?”
Chase looks over at Douglas who was still sitting next to him. He begins to wonder just how close his biological father was to his brother. The brother who he wasn’t related to by blood rather related to by friendship, love, and bond. How could he been so blind to Leo’s pain and troubles?
“Hey Douglas, did Leo ever tell you how he was feeling?”
“Once or twice, yeah… but Chase— Leo isn’t one to make his needs known. Don’t feel too bad about it.”
“I still do…”
“I know. I know… If it helps, I feel bad about it too.”
***
I'll tell you what's up with me. I am tired of everyone treating me like some kind of non-existent bionic hero.
“I would ask how you are doing, but I can tell by all your faces that your not okay,” Donald Davenport says to bionic trio.
Adam, Bree, and Chase are in their private mentor quarters. Adam stood over Chase and Bree. Chase and Bree were sitting on the couch. Chase had his arm around Bree. It’s only a day or two after Leo left. This was a strange new Leo-less world was not okay in any one of the Davenports’ mind.
I'm going back to Mission Creek. I don't belong here anymore. I'm quitting the academy.
“Why would we be okay?! Leo left,” Adam practically shouts.
“Take it easy, Adam. I’m sure Leo will be back before we know it,” Bree says trying to comfort her brother.
No one wanted to believe Leo would stay away forever. This was Leo. Leo didn’t just leave. Somehow… everyone in their little family knew this was different. That maybe… Leo wasn’t coming back.
No. Chase was right. I'm not cut out to be a leader.
I never meant for you to leave.
Chase meant that. He never meant for Leo to leave. He never wanted to Leo to leave. He wonder, not for the first time, if drove his brother away. Douglas seemed to think that he didn’t, but Chase wasn’t sure. Leo seemed so heartbroken when he last saw him.
Part of being a leader is making mistakes. You learn from them, and you move on. I mean, look at Chase. Think of all the mistakes he's made as mission leader.
“I don’t know guys… Leo seemed pretty upset. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him this upset before,” Chase states.
“Yeah…” Bree adds. “That didn’t mean he had to up and leave.”
“Yeah! We could have helped him through this like we should have been doing this whole time,” Adam almost shouts.
But his never hurt anyone. Taylor has to live with my mistake for the rest of her life.
So you're just gonna give up and leave? What about our team?
Logan, you deserve a better team. Or at least a better leader. I'm not gonna put you or anyone else here in danger ever again. Here. Give it to someone more deserving.
Leo, I'm not gonna let you--
Yes, you are, because it's not your choice. It's mine. Bye, guys. Sorry I let you down.
“I hate to say it, but Chase is right. Leo might not come back,” Davenport adds.
“He has to come back,” Adam mutters, “he has to…”
Not too long after that was said, Davenport had to leave and deal with stuff on the island. He had given the kids the rest of the day off to just deal with this. He understood how much they missed their brother, because Donald Davenport misses Leo too.
After their father had left, the bionic trio sits in silence until…
“We should have listened to him,” Bree says.
“Yeah…” Chase absently agrees. “If only we had treated him better… Do you think we drove him to all of it?”
“Yeah, I do. We never really respected Leo…” Adam, in one of his rare moments of wisdom, says.
I told you Marcus was evil. "Leo, he's a nice guy", "Leo, give the guy a break". Wool, eyes, pulled over.
Look, Leo. We're sorry we didn't believe you.
“I hate to say it Adam,” Chase starts. “But you’re right. We never did respected him. And we took for granted the best friend we’ve ever had. Now he’s gone.”
Sometimes, you say something very personal before thinking and don’t even realize you’ve actually said it. Chase just did that and luckily for him Adam and Bree didn’t notice either.
I wanted to tell you, but he threatened to report your secret to the authorities.
That makes sense. He was just looking out for us.
“Leo’s not dead. He just left the island…” Adam says, trying to lighten the mood. “But I know what you mean. It’s not right without him here.”
“No, it’s not,” Bree agrees.
Leo, what is he doing here?
It's okay. I brought him. He's the only one who can help you.
I don't know about this.
We don't have a choice. Do you wanna be bionic or not?
Bree thinks back to the time Leo brought Douglas to help her get her chip back. Leo was the only who thought to even ask Douglas. Leo didn’t even seem to care about consequences of doing so. Bree never thought much of what Leo did that day until now. She wished she had now.
He tried to warn us about Marcus and we ignored him.
How often did the Davenports ignore Leo when he tried to tell him something? He tried to warn them about Marcus and they didn’t listen. His family didn’t listen back then. How little has changed in past few years?
“Guys,” Adam break the silence, “do you think that Leo would come back if we said we were sorry?”
Was Leo leaving a chain of events or just one of Leo temper fits? As much as everyone wanted to believe that it was the latter, it was really former. If it was just one of Leo’s fits, then he would come back after apology.
“Adam, this feels deeper than something an ‘I’m sorry’ can fix,” Chase says.
“Then what do we do?!”
“I don’t know, Adam, I don’t know. I wish I did.”
You can break up the team but you are not breaking up my family.
Chase remembered when the team broke up and the three of them stop speaking. Leo became a bit of peacemaker between them. None of them even had to ask Leo to do this he just did it. Chase never thought about it much until now. Now that Chase thinks about it, Leo tended to that. He stood by them without needing to be asked or did things for them without being asked. He ran into the line of fire to save them all the way back to that party he threw for them or jumping to save them at the garage dump.
What did Adam, Bree, and Chase give in return to all of Leo’s kindness and friendship/brotherhood? Nothing is the answer Chase came up with. Chase realized Leo never asked for anything when he help them. He just did it. Chase wasn’t sure he understood completely why someone would do half the stuff Leo has done without gaining anything.
I remember your first days out of the lab. So young, so naïve. You needed a strong hand to guide you.
Yeah. But all we got was you.
Leo was the first real friend that any of the Davenport kids ever had, and only now did they start to realize just how good a friend is. Leo became more than a friend. He was their brother after all. There are very few friends or even brothers who give up their spare time to do half of what Leo has done.
Chase never really thought about how unique of a friend Leo is. Marcus and Sebastian made Chase feel bad and rethink his friendship with them, but never rethink the other people in his life. Now that Leo has left, Chase started to think why would Leo leave. It wasn’t like him to leave. Chase never expected Leo to leave… no one did.
You're the best surprise brother we've ever had. No offense, Leo.
Yeah, we still like you. You're just old news.
“Is that how we repaid Leo with? Calling him old news? I really am the worse brother in the world…” Chase thinks.
Chase wonders if maybe he was better brother and better friend then maybe he would still be here. Maybe if he believed in Leo more or trusted him more. Why did he have to drive Leo away?
***
Adam, Bree, and Chase have tried multiple times to try and get Leo to come back. He keeps saying no. Leo is just so stubborn sometimes. Adam has also started carrying around cardboard version of Leo. “Like that is good replacement for our brother… I wish… oh never mind,” Chase thinks.
Adam, get rid of that thing.
No! When real Leo watches from home, I want him to feel like he's still an important part of our team.
Have you lost your mind? This is not our brother, it's a piece of cardboard.
To make matters worse, Adam wants to bring that cardboard out of Leo off the island and into the real world. Chase wished that Adam would just get rid of that thing. Chase missed Leo too, but cardboard Leo is not a solution. Chase just wanted to have the real Leo back. Well, everyone wanted the real Leo back.
***
The past few weeks have been difficult and hard being away from Adam, Bree, and Chase. This is the longest they’ve been apart since they met. Leo knows he made the decision to leave and he stands by that decision, but that doesn’t mean living with that decision any easier.
When Taylor had called, Leo was glad to hear from her. He is still carrying guilt for what happened. He had hoped to hear how she was doing not that his family was in trouble.
I know you quit the team, but your family needs you.
If there is one thing to know about Leo it’s that if his family needs him then that’s exactly where he’s going to be no matter what it takes. Even though, he doesn’t feel worthy of being on the team right now, but that doesn’t matter. His family is trouble and needs him.
***
Leo, you have to let go or it's gonna take you with it.
I’m not letting go.
Chase wonders for a brief moment if the reason he wants Leo to let him fall was out of guilt for everything. Chase knows that stupid reason and he might need to talk to professorial if that really is his way of thinking. If he actually makes it out this.
When Leo finally reaches out and pulls Chase out of the limo, Chase feels like he finally sees Leo properly for the first time. In that moment, when Leo saves him, he doesn’t see his little brother, he sees a hero. Before, when Leo did something heroic Chase always saw his little brother acting as hero, but never as a hero. Chase wonders why out of all the times Leo has save him and their family is this the time he sees Leo differently?
Leo, you did it. You saved my life. Sorry I ever doubted you.
I'm just glad you're okay.
Leo meant what he said. He is just glad Chase is okay, not approve or anything else. That’s really matters right now, at least for now. Leo looks over at his brother. It’s the first time they’ve seen each other in person since he left the island and he almost had to watch him die.
Chase looks at Leo. He wants to tell Leo more than ‘I’m sorry I ever doubted you’. He wants tell him how much he regrets not being a better brother and friend to him and how he will be one now. He wants to tell Leo that things will be different now. He will respect him and will listen to him like he should have.
There is so many things that both Leo and Chase want to say. So many regrets and apologies that need to be said, but not now. For this moment, these two brothers hug. Its quick, but it means the world and is a silence message of ‘it’s all okay now’.
***
Not only is Leo back at the island, but because of his bravery and leadership on the bridge mission, I have officially made him a mentor.
Couldn't be prouder of you, buddy
After party/ceremony of Leo’s grand return, Leo found himself sitting alone in a random room of the island. Strange how much can change in so little time.
“Hey Leo,” Leo recognizes the voice as Chase’s. “Do you mind if I join you?” Leo shrugs and Chase sits down next him. “I know we haven’t had a chance to talk since you got back, but there are some things I want to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything. It’s okay.”
“No. It’s not okay. That’s the point.”
“What’s this about?”
“Leo, when you left the island, I did some thinking… and I realized that I should have been a better brother and a better friend. I am so sorry.”
“It’s okay. Chase, I let my need to try and prove myself get the better of me… and I got Taylor hurt. We both made mistakes. It’s over now.”
“I was still a terrible brother. I should have realized how much you hated being just a student and none of us taking you seriously.”
Leo is a little surprised to hear those words out of Chase. He didn’t think that Chase would even remember how much that bothered him. “I should have been better at telling what was going on sooner, but that’s all the past now. Forgive and forget?”
“You’re not mad?”
“No. Being honest, when I first got the island I was mad and I guess I didn’t stopped being mad until after I left this place. I was mad at you guys, Big D, this place— Well, you get it. I don’t think I ever truly stopped being mad I never really dealt with it and just let it fester until you know… I didn’t even realize how mad until the ceremony came up. The point I am making is that I am done being mad. I’m sick of it.”
“I am still sorry for everything.”
“I know and I forgive you. I should told you guys what was going on.”
“And we should have been willing to listen.”
“Looks, we could past the blame all day, so lets just forgive each other for everything and promise to do better?”
“Sounds good… so we really are good?”
“Chase, for crying out loud, you are my brother! That means I love you no matter what you do, so get used to it. Meaning we are good! You are forgiven!”
Chase and Leo laugh, then hug. Things have difficult these past couple weeks for this pair of brothers, but now it’s things are starting to look up. Leo is now a mentor and his three bionic siblings have newfound appreciation and respect for their brother, Leo. Every now and then, through life’s worst tragedies brings about some of the greatest the changes.
Author’s Note: This is first fanfic I’ve ever written diving into Chase mind. This fic started out as a short conversation with Leo and Chase after the rebellion, but I sort of got carried away when I thought what if On The Edge happened and we see them fall out and come back together. I have also long since had a document with Quotes from the show for photos edits and other stuff, so I just pulled from that to add the quotes in. I thought the quotes would be a fun way to further tie in Leo and Chase’s friendship throughout the show along with their falling out in On The Edge. The quotes are best view as the characters reflecting back on their own memories as that was my intention when I was writing. Yes, I did put references to Daniel’s episode due to Leo still being a student in that episode. I had also planned on dealing more with Leo, but didn’t as the fic was already so long. I know I also dealt with On the Edge another One-Shot not too long ago, but I just felt like making this. As y’all can tell On The Edge is a special I’m sort of obsessed with as I see as the big hooray of Leo and finishing of character arch. I honestly wish that was final of the show. Anyways, I hope y’all enjoy my LONG fanfic.

Katie's Fic Rec Master List
I wanted to make a master list of all my favorite fics in the hopes of introducing others to the fics I love and showing my appreciation for all the work authors do. I’ve also done like four fic rec lists in the past (you can find them here), and it’s time I organized everything into one list that I can update as I go. I will also make this a page on my blog so you don't have to scroll through this massive post.
UPDATE 1/25/2024: Hello! So it turns out Tumblr has link and character limits on posts now, which means I can't make this rec list as long as I'd like, and I don't want to make multiple lists. So I took a page out of Lou (@impossibleknots)'s book and made a spreadsheet! You can find it here, and I'll be updating that rather than this list.
I aimed for a mix of what I call “classic” fics and some lesser-known fics to give something for everyone. I have a lot of fandoms and I’ve been reading fics for a long time, so this is a pretty extensive list.
Updated: November 29, 2022 (minor edits made 11/22/2023)
Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra
God Bless the Child by slacktension (T, 9,391 words, complete)  Missing scenes from Legend of Korra 01x08: Mako, Bolin, and Asami are stuck in jail after the raid on the Dragon Flats District. I really liked how this fic touched on Mako and Bolin’s childhood working for the Triple Threat Triad.  Warnings: references to past violence, swearing  Ships: Mako/Asami
Keraunopathy by celluloid (@miikkasakari) (NR, 15,000+ words, incomplete)  Mako’s relationship with lightning has changed a lot. He first learns of lighting bending when he reads a book of Iroh quotes. After a fire bender kills his parents, Mako’s relationship with lightning changes, even after he learns to generates it himself. I really liked how Ari made lighting bending a big deal again—in ATLA it was a huge deal, then in LOK it became much more common and less dangerous. Mako and others being able to lightning bend with ease is glossed over, and I enjoyed Ari’s take on Mako learning to generate lightning.  Warnings: mentions of abuse and violence, character death  Ships: None
No Church in the Wild by slacktension (M, 4,000+ words, incomplete) Mako and Bolin’s childhood, from before their parents die to living on the streets to meeting Korra. I really liked how slacktension explores how Mako and Bolin’s relationship changes once their parents are killed and they are forced to live on the street. Slacktension really dives into how Mako became Bolin’s caretaker and parent, doing his best to keep himself and his brother alive on the streets and with the Triad.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of abuse, descriptions of violence, character death, discussions of death, drug and alcohol use, smoking, swearing  Ships: None
Big Time Rush
Where I’ll Be Found by kasuchi (@kasuchi) (T, 6,104 words, complete) After Jo leaves for New Zealand, Kendall has a hard time coping and starts to crash and burn. Luckily he has his family and ‘90s music to help him. I loved how kasuchi used '90s song titles for each section (I forgot about Kendall's long-lost '90s music addiction!) and tried to stick with artists that would probably exist in the BTR universe. I liked how they dealt with his breakup with Jo in the show, but I liked how kasuchi took it an extra step and really made Kendall crash and burn. The best part of BTR is the friendship/family element—the boys and Katie and Mrs. Knight (and even Kelly and Gustavo) are really a family, and kasuchi did a great job of showing that. I also liked how kasuchi did the "turn real things into fake things" that Nick always does.  Warnings: underage drinking, swearing  Ships: Kendall/Jo, Kendall/OFC
Chronicles of Narnia
A Call Rattling in Her Bones by dirgewithoutmusic (@ink-splotch) (G, 3,145 words, complete) Susan Pevensie returns from Narnia changed. She is a woman pretending to be a child, a queen without her kingdom. She has lived and lost and loved in ways her classmates will never know or understand. In England, the trees are only trees, the water only water and nothing more. So she adapts: she joins the newspaper, throws herself into her studies, and makes a new life for herself. Then her own horn calls her back to Narnia and a Lion tells her she can never return. So Susan decides to live, to build herself a new life in England. Her life will no longer be anything but her own. I feel like a lot of people hate on Susan for choosing to live and move on rather than dwelling on Narnia, and it’s nice to see a take on post-Narnia Susan that doesn't do that. Susan is a fascinating character, and as usual Inky really does her justice here. Warnings: major character death  Ships: None
A Power in Every Breath by PanBoleyn (G, 3,288 words, complete)  After the lies of Shift the Ape, religion in Narnia starts to change. The Great Lion hasn’t been seen in generations, so Narnians begin to turn to new gods: the Seven Friends of Narnia. I really loved this exploration of a Narnian world that didn’t end in The Last Battle but instead got to grow and change. I loved the exploration of the religion and mythology of Narnia, and especially how each of the Friends of Narnia came to be associated with specific animals, virtues, and symbols. Religion isn’t always one-size-fits-all, and I loved how this story dives into that.  Warnings: None Ships: None
A Sea of Golden Sand by Andi Horton (K+, 121,897 words, complete) The Horse and His Boy from the Pevensies’ point of view. Prince Rabadash comes to Cair Paravel to ask for Susan’s hand in marriage. All seems well, and Susan decides to make a visit to Calormen. Upon arriving in Calormen, however, it becomes clear that things are not as they seem and Rabadash is not the charming prince he claims to be. Andi Horton captures C.S. Lewis’s writing style perfectly, this reads almost exactly like one of the Chronicles of Narnia books.  Warnings: references to violence   Ships: None
Counted Among the Traitors by WillowDryad (T, 73,916 words, complete) Ten years into the Golden Age, evil forces are at work in Narnia, causing High King Peter to lose faith and trust in his brother. Edmund must work to clear his name and save his brother before it’s too late. This was one of the very first fics I read and fell in love with way back in 2012. Each chapter had me enthralled and waiting for more. WillowDryad does a great job of developing the Pevensies and writing them as adults who have reigned for ten years. I have been endlessly inspired by WillowDryad, and I highly suggest checking out the rest of their work.  Warnings: graphicdescriptions of violence, illness, discussions of death   Ships: None
Into the West by elecktrum (T, 89,879 words, complete)  A year after The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, a curse Jadis put on Edmund is awoken. Peter and Philip must adventure to the Garden in the West to retrieve the only means of saving Edmund's life and breaking the curse. If you like tales of adventures and family and heroes saving the day, this is the fic for you. This is the fic for me and I have reread it a bunch of times. Every character, from the Pevensies to Aslan to the smallest OC, has a unique personality and brings something to the story. The Pevensies have such a wonderful dynamic with each other and the other residents of Cair Paravel (especially Peter and Edmund and Oreius), and I just want to jump into this world and live in it.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of violence, discussions of death  Ships: None
Nighttime Demons by Sentimental-Star (T, 45,000+ words, incomplete) After Colin Pevensie returns from the war, he notices that his children are not as he left them: Peter is more grown-up, Edmund is no longer beastly, and Susan and Lucy are no longer the little girls he remembers. Told from the point of view of Colin, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, this is a wonderful story exploring the effect Narnia had on the four Pevensie children and how Aslan can affect even those who have never met Him. I like how Sentimental-Star touches on why Susan decides to stop believing in Narnia and examines the relationships between each of the Pevensies and their parents.  Warnings: descriptions of violence, discussions of death, panic attacks    Ships: None
No Greater Love by WickedForGood13 (K+, 14,311 words, complete)  The aftermath of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Peter and Edmund have a lot to talk about following their return from Narnia, and hopefully they can heal some of the rift between them in the process. I love a fic that explores the impact Narnia and returning to England had on the Pevensies, and WickedForGood13 does a great job at it. This fic focuses on Peter and Edmund, but Susan and Lucy also make appearances.   Warnings: references to past violence, dissuasions of death   Ships: None
Only Children by Thalion King’s Daughter (K, 74,110 words, complete) A Golden Age tale following the adventures of Jaer and Jaerin Peridanson, sons of Lord Peridan, as they come to live at Cair Paravel with their family. What they hope will be a peaceful move takes a turn when Peter is captured by Ettin Giants. This story follows Thole and A Blessing of Rain by elecktrum as Jaer and the others race to rescue Peter from the Ettin Giants. I love Jaer and Jaerin, they have such a lovely dynamic with each other and the Pevensies. Jaer, Jaerin, and their family fit perfectly into the world of Cair Paravel, and I love how Thalion King’s Daughter gives Lord Peridan a backstory and more depth than he got in The Horse and His Boy.  Warnings: implied/referenced violence, discussions of death   Ships: None
Return and Pushback by summer_days (@squirrel-princess)(T, 13,000+ words, incomplete) A year after they left, the four Pevensies return to Narnia and start to push back against what they find there. This Narnia is wild and dangerous, but she cares for her people and will do anything to protect them. I am obsessed with sentient Narnia and I adore the Pevensies with subtle Great Cat traits. A Narnia that is sentient and takes care of her people brings so much more depth and heartbreak to the Telmarines’ invasion and the Pevensies’ return to Narnia. I loved how Summer explores the Pevenies’ connection to Narnia, especially Peter’s, and delves into the magical aspects of Narnia.  Warnings: descriptions of violence  Ships: Past Peter/OFC
The Lion and the Fox by Rayven49 (T, 125,579 words, complete) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as told by Peter and Edmund. Here is the story of how Edmund changes from a bratty little boy to Just King and repairs his relationship with his brother. I love how Rayven49 explores Peter and Edmund’s relationship and how it grows and changes throughout LWW. There’s angst and heartbreak but there’s also joy and heartwarming moments. I really loved reading Edmund’s transformation—he becomes a full, three-dimensional character and gets to fully grow and change. The lion and fox metaphor is frequently used in the fandom, but I think Rayven49 uses it in a way that's not forced or cliché.  Warnings: descriptions of violence  Ships: None
To the Radiant Southern Sun by Wordsintothevoid (T, 6,000+ words, incomplete)  “An exploration of love, grief, and finding faith again.” After the train accident, Susan is left alone to mourn her family. Eventually, she resolves to forget about Narnia, not let her grief consume her, and live her life the way she wants to. I loved Wordsintothevoid’s characterization of Susan, she really did Susan justice here. This whole story broke my heart, especially the scenes of Susan packing away her siblings’ belongings and writing down her stories of Narnia. Susan gets to be angry at the injustice of being left alone, and she’s given space and time to feel everything and process all her emotions. I loved how Wordsintothevoid played into Susan's supposed love for nylons and lipstick as a sort of coping mechanism, both for being essentially banished from Narnia and for her family's deaths. Warnings: major character death, graphic descriptions of violence, suicidal thoughts, grief Ships: None
Descendants
Beautiful Scars on Critical Veins by aletterinthenameofsanity (M, 3,398 words, complete)  Auradon trapped the VKs on the Isle for twenty years, leaving them to rot and starve and die. Mal knows the pain of starvation, the pain of death and abuse and doing anything and everything to protect your gang, your family. Nothing changes once she gets to Auradon, except now her magic is free. Mal is Fae and she is a Dragon, and Auradon will learn that Mal and the others are not the villains of this story—they are the heroes. My favorite kind of Descendants story is one that isn’t Disney-fied and truly shows the horrors of the Isle. I love the concept of using Mal’s full potential for fae magic, and aletterinthenameofsanity delivers. Mal is protective and ruthless and badass, and this story showcases that perfectly. Warnings: graphic descriptions of violence, character death, mentions of abuse and violence, swearing  Ships: Mal/Evie
I Don’t Know if You’re Looking for Romance by hara_leah (@thesunoneyelashes) (T, 2,372 words, complete) Everyone has a mark: the place where they first touch their soulmate, black until they make contact with their soulmate. Evie, Mal, Jay, and Carlos aren’t all soulmates, but you can choose your soulmate, right? I love a soulmate AU, and I especially love Harley’s take on it. It’s not dark like many other soulmate AUs, and I think it’s a very interesting take on the differences between Auradon and the Isle.  Warnings: descriptions of violence, descriptions of abuse, swearing Ships: Evie/Jay/Mal/Carlos, Jay/Carlos, Jay/Mal
In Loco Parentis by RottenKidNextDoor (Portal of Worlds) (@unapologeticallyjaylos) (M, 81,699 words, complete) Jay and Mal are two runaways with a knack for illegal activities and adventures. They are perfectly happy with just the two of them—they might be broke and struggling, but at least they have each other and the grand adventure of being runaways. But when a car crash unexpectedly brings Carlos and Evie into their lives, Mal and Jay’s little family gets a little bigger—and a little more complicated. I really liked the Core Four’s dynamic in this one: a reluctant family, but a family nonetheless. They have a lot of demons to face, but they face them together. I really liked how Mal especially is given the space to face and then move on from her all-encompassing need for revenge and do what’s best for her and her friends. This is a very heavy story, please be careful and heed the warnings and tags.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of abuse (including sexual abuse), discussions of rape, references to child pornography, abusive relationship, brief nudity, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, crime, violence, alcohol use, homophobia, swearing  Ships: Jay/Carlos, Mal/Evie
Mistaken for a Miracle by RottenKidNextDoor (Portal of Worlds) (T, 112,000+ words, incomplete) What does love mean to two boys from the Isle who have never experienced it before? Do they even deserve love after everything they’ve been through? These are the questions Carlos must wrestle with as he finds himself falling for Jay. I really liked how RottenKidNextDoor (Portal of Worlds) showed Carlos and Jay’s growth and gave them room to process their traumas and didn’t rush them into a relationship. This is tagged underage, but that’s only because Carlos and Jay are 16-17.   Warnings: descriptions of violence, descriptions of abuse, implied/referenced sexual content, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, swearing  Ships: Jay/Carlos
This is Not for Us to Ponder (This Was Preordained) by ElixirBB (E, 15,427 words, complete) Ben decides to let Isle kids come to Auradon Prep, but his kind action has unexpected consequences. Aurardon learns the hard way to never underestimate kids who have revenge on their minds and nothing to lose but each other. I don’t normally go for Jay/Mal fics, and I generally don’t recommend E-rated fics, but this one is so good: the romance (for lack of a better word, this is certainly not a romance story) doesn’t overshadow the other relationships, and the more explicit scenes are tasteful and add a lot to the story. I really enjoyed ElixirBB’s exploration of the relationships between the VKs and the people of Auradon. This is not the Disney version of Descendants and has some very dark themes—please heed the warnings and tags.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of violence and torture, graphic descriptions of abuse, explicit sexual content, character death, underage drinking, imprisonment, swearing Ships: Jay/Mal, background Mal/Evie, background Jay/Carlos, background Mal/Evie/Jay/Carlos
WAR by hara_leah (@thesunoneyelashes) (T, 1,951 words, complete) Soulmates feel each other’s pain, carry each other's cuts and bruises and scars. In Auradon, soulmates are celebrated, and discovering yours is akin to marriage. On the Isle, soulmates are a sign of weakness, a burden to never speak about. When Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos learn that they are soulmates, they are determined to love freely. So the Isle kids band together to take Auradon and stand up to the adults that banished them. I love Harley’s soulmate AUs because she uses soulmates to showcase the differences between Auradon and the Isle while not being too dark.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of violence, graphic descriptions of abuse, major character death, mentions of past prostitution, swearing    Ships: Evie/Jay/Mal/Carlos, Audrey/Ben, Gil/Harry/Uma
We Gotta Be Free by siriuslyrose (@siriuslyrose) (G, 14,139 words, complete) Opening the barrier was supposed to make the VKs safe from their parents and from the Isle. It was supposed to give every Isle kid a chance at a better life. It was supposed to make everything better. So why didn’t it? Delving into the logistics and emotions of the barrier coming down, this fic explores the friendships between the Isle kids and the Auradon kids. I really liked how Mel made the Descendants 3 ending make sense and really showed how opening the barrier would impact the Isle kids. Warnings: references to abuse, references to violence, swearing Ships: Ben/Mal
We Talk Just Like Lions (But We Sacrifice Like Lambs) by Chill_with_Penguins (T, 9,951 words, complete) After the events of Descendants 2, Mal tries to put the Isle out of her mind but realizes she can’t. After all, you can’t bleach and princess away sixteen years of pain. A queen has to look out for her people, no matter what the cost. So Mal and the Isle kids come together to finally take back what’s theirs. I have read a lot of Descendants fix-its because canon stinks sometimes, and this is one of my favorites. What I liked most about this story was how, instead of bringing the Isle kids to Auradon, the VKs return to the Isle and make it better. This is the Descendants 3 movie I wanted to see. Chill_with_Penguins’s version of Mal is everything: badass, powerful, ruthless, and magical, but still wanting to do right by her people. This fic hurt, but in the best way. Warnings: descriptions of violence, references to abuse, PTSD, swearing Ships: Ben/Mal, Mal/Evie
Glee
Promises Broken by GleekMom (M, 93,061 words, complete)  Blaine is removed from his home after CPS finds out that his parents have been abusing him. Blaine goes into foster care and then to Sydney House, a group home for LGBTQ+ youth. While he’s there, he learns that sometimes family can be found in unexpected places. I really liked how Kurt and Blaine’s relationship and Blaine’s relationship with New Directions is portrayed in this: they struggle and make mistakes because they’re teenagers dealing with very serious matters, but they right their wrongs and make it through in the end. I also really liked how Chess the musical was integrated into the story. This story deals with some very heavy topics; please heed the warnings and please be careful.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of abuse and domestic violence, discussions of past underage prostitution, implied sexual content, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, drug and alcohol use, homophobia, divorce Ships: Kurt/Blaine, Burt/Carole, background Finchel
Straight Campby foraworldundeserving (T, 138,520 words, complete) Nick and Jeff (the Warblers) and Blaine are sent to Wildwood Springs Health Camp for the summer. Will they make it out, or will this experience destroy them forever? Sarah does an amazing job of fleshing out Nick and Jeff, developing their relationship, and balancing very heavy angst with friendship and even some romance. I also really love the OCs Scott and James, they are some of the best-developed OCs I’ve read. This is an incredibly sad story, though it does have a happy ending. This story is set at a conversion therapy camp and deals with very heavy themes, so please be careful. Warnings: graphic descriptions of abuse and domestic violence, graphic descriptions of self-harm, graphic descriptions of attempted suicide, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, descriptions of drug addiction and past underage drug use, homophobia, bullying, conversion therapy Ships: Nick/Jeff, OMC / OMC
We’ve Got Tonight by katjandante (T, 23,895 words, complete) “Kurt tries to measure Finn’s life in love, but it’s so much harder than he remembers it being.” Kurt, Blaine, New Directions, and the Hudmels come together to remember Finn and mourn his death. I know there are a lot of fics about Finn’s death out there, but for me this one was different. It gave me closure in a way that many other fics didn’t, and it was so easy to connect with the characters’ struggles. This fic is emotional and raw and it feels very real. I shed many tears while reading this.  Warnings: major character death, sexual content, underage drinking, homophobia Ships: Kurt/Blaine, Burt/Carole
Harry Potter
He Will Have Powers the Dark Lord Knows Not by dirgewithoutmusic (@ink-splotch) (NR, 11,809 words, complete) What if Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, had been born a Squib? Harry Potter cannot do magic, but you don’t need magic or powers to teach or play Quidditch or make friends. In this world, Harry is still friends with Ron and Hermione, and he still plays Quidditch and sneaks around school under an Invisibility Cloak and saves the day year after year. There are many things in this magical world that don’t require magic at all. But Harry also befriends Anthony Goldstein, whose big sister is a Squib, and instead of using magic he uses theory and books. Harry learns you don’t have to have magic or powers to be a hero, even if you are the Chosen One. I love Inky’s exploration of the nature of magic and how it can be both inherent and earned through hard work and studying. I especially love how Harry’s relationships with Filch and Mrs. Figg change when they and Harry have more in common.  Warnings: canon-typical violence, mentions of abuse, bullying   Ships: Ron/Hermione
Look Beyond What You See by hachoo (K+, 59,561 words, complete) Deathly Hallows from the point of view of Fred and George. After the Battle of Little Whinging, it becomes clear that there is more to George’s ear injury than meets the eye. Fred and George have to learn how to cope with the side effects of George’s missing ear and the realities of war. I love how hachoo portrays Fred and George’s relationship and keeps their sense of humor without forgetting that they’re nineteen-year-olds who voluntarily join a war. Fred and George are given a lot of depth that I think they were missing in the books, and it was really nice to read them as well-rounded characters. I cry every time I read this, even though I know exactly what’s going to happen.  Warnings: major character death, canon-typical violence, descriptions of blood and injuries Ships: None
Stay Ahead and Stay Alive by aletterinthenameofsanity (T, 16,737 words, complete)  Ron Weasley, a sixth son of a seventh son, grows up in his brothers’ shadows: Bill is a curse breaker; Charlie a Quidditch star and dragon tamer; Percy Prefect and Head Boy and Ministry official; Fred and George are businessmen and inventors. No matter how hard he tries, Ron always falls short of living up to his brothers. When he comes to Hogwarts, he finally has the chance to change his fate and do something for himself: Ron Weasley becomes the first Weasley in three generations to be Sorted into anything but Gryffindor. This is a fantastic take on Slytherin Ron: he gets to exist and find himself outside of his family and Harry and the war, and I feel like he truly lives up to his potential instead of being side-lined. Aletterinthenameofsanity writes Slytherins so well, giving them personalities and traditions and development beyond being evil blood-supremacists.  Warnings: None  Ships: Ron/Viktor Krum, Ron/Blaise Zabini, background Draco/Harry, background Percy/Marcus Flint, background Tracey Davis/OFC
The Heir of Something or Other by dirgewithoutmusic (NR,  14,305words, complete) When Harry Potter is under the Sorting Hat, he doesn’t whisper “Not, Slytherin, not Slytherin.” Instead of Gryffindor, the Boy Who Lived is Sorted into Slytherin. Harry’s path is not easy, and at times he considers running back to Privet Drive. This world is much like the one where Harry Potter wears red and gold on his robes: Snape still hates him, and Draco Malfoy is still a bully, and Harry still saves the day year after year. However, when Harry overhears that there’s a girl crying in the bathroom when there’s a troll on the loose, he isn’t the only one who hesitates: Millicent Bullstrode hesitates, too. In this world, Slytherins fight side-by-side with Ravenclaws, Gryffindors, and Hufflepuffs, and old grudges are finally put aside. I really love this take on Slytherin Harry, and I really like the parallels between Dumbledore’s relationship with Tom Riddle and Dumbledore’s relationship with Harry. Harry as a Slytherin gives more depth to his relationship with Tom Riddle and Dumbledore, and it feels like Dumbledore is seeing Harry as Tom Riddle and thus makes the same mistakes.  Warnings: major character death, mentions of abuse, bullying   Ships: None
The Life and Times by Jewels5 (M, 613,762 words, complete) The tale of James and Lily’s sixth and seventh years at Hogwarts, how they joined the Order of the Phoenix, and how they went from enemies to friends to lovers. I really liked how Jewels wrote James and Lily and the Marauders’ dynamic: true to the little we know about them from the books, but fleshed out into full characters. Jewels gives all the characters personalities and backstories, even more minor characters like Lily’s parents. Jewels’s OCs are also extremely well-written and developed into full characters with their own plots and personalities (I especially loved Donna Shacklebolt).  Warnings: canon-typical violence, graphic descriptions of attempted suicide, implied sexual content, minor character death Ships: James/Lily, Frank/Alice, James/OFC, Lily/OMC
The Marauders Get Sorted by byebyebluejay (G, 4,356 words, complete) Remus Lupin has never had a friend before, and he’s the first werewolf to ever attend Hogwarts. Needless to say, he’s pretty anxious. After a terrible train ride, Remus is Sorted into Gryffindor, the House for the brave at heart, and meets Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, and James Potter. I loved this glimpse into the origin of the Marauders.  Warnings: descriptions of panic attacks  Ships: pre-Remus/Sirius
How to Get Away With Murder
The Art of Holding On by IronicAppreciation (NR, 5,143 words, complete)  Somehow, between the murders and the law school competition and her father’s drama, Laurel found something she didn’t expect: a family. She’s not sure when Micaela, Oliver, Connor, and Asher became more than classmates and coworkers, but here they are, sitting in their decrepit house at four in the morning, falling asleep on the couch because they can’t be bothered to go upstairs. The found-family dynamic we all deserved from season 5.  Warnings: mentions of past violence, swearing  Ships: Connor/Oliver, Laurel/Frank, past Laurel/Wes
Safety Net by a_good_soldier (T, 1,281 words, complete) After Murder Night 2.0 at the Hapstall mansion, Connor and Michaela show up at Connor and Oliver’s apartment, scared out of their minds and barely holding it together. Even though he has no idea what’s going on, Oliver tries his best to take care of Connor and Michaela. I liked how Frank filled in some of the missing scenes from 02x09 and dove into the effects Annalise and Sinclair’s murder had on Connor and Michaela.  Warnings: canon-typical violence, panic attacks, ableist language (crazy, insane, etc)  Ships: Connor/Oliver
Julie and the Phantoms
Are You for Me or Against Me (Hold Yourself Against Me) by siriuslyrose (@siriuslyrose) (G, 14,094 words, complete) Modern everybody lives/nobody dies AU in which Caleb adopted Willie. Five times Alex thought Caleb hated him, and one time he was proven wrong. I love Mel’s writing, and this does not disappoint. Mel does a great job of integrating Carrie and Bobby into the group and creating the character of good dad Caleb. Also I love Willie’s dog. Warnings: descriptions of panic attacks, homophobia, swearing  Ships: Alex/Willie, Flynn/Carrie, Bobby/Reggie, Julie/Luke
Far Away From Hurt Is Where Healing Occurs by chickwiththepurpleguitar (@chickwiththepurpleguitar) (G, 12,299 words, complete) After the Orpheum, Julie has to explain to Ray that there are three sort-of-ghosts living in their studio. Luckily, Ray is the best dad ever, but when caring for the boys means forgiving Bobby/Trevor Wilson, Ray finds it a little harder than he expected. Sometimes time really does heal all wounds. I love how Lilly explores the relationship between Bobby/Trevor, Ray, and Rose, as well as the relationships between Luke, Alex, and Reggie and their parents. Warnings: homophobia  Ships: Julie/Luke, Alex/Willie
First Things First by Irratia (@on-irratia) (NR, 8,670 words, complete) Modern everybody lives/nobody dies AU. Three firsts in Alex and Willie’s relationship: meeting the parents, sharing clothes, and sharing a bed. This is a lot of fluff and it’s so sweet. I love supportive Molinas/found family, and this fic delivers. Warnings: panic attacks, homophobia  Ships: Alex/Willie
Gave Me No Compasses, Gave Me No Signs by weneedglitter (@weneedglitter) (G, 5,611 words, complete) After the Orpheum, Julie discovers her powers go beyond magic hugs, and the bond she has with Alex, Reggie, and Luke is stronger than she thought. This is pretty similar to Know That It’s Probably Magic by thessalonike (starblessed) (it was inspired by that fic), but the premise is just different enough to make it special. I really loved Morgan’s take on the Orpheum and how Julie was able to pull the boys to her. Warnings: None Ships: pre-Julie/Luke, pre-Alex/Willie
Give Me Something to Hold On To by sunsetcurbed (@sunsetcurbed) (T, 47,148 words, complete) Modern everybody lives/nobody dies AU. As Kay puts it, “Alex and Willie meet young, fall in love young, and fall apart young. But some things have a way of making sure they’re meant to be in the end.” I was hesitant on this one at first, because I don’t usually go for breakup stories, but Kay’s writing won me over. This story is so well thought-out and beautifully written, and Kay captures the emotions of a breakup perfectly. As you might expect, this is a sad story, but I promise the end is happy. Warnings: alcohol use  Ships: Alex/Willie, Julie/Luke, Wille/OMC
Heaven Has Got Nothing On Us by spiral_the_pretzel (T, 5,072 words, complete) After he dies, Willie realizes he can’t see color. For five years his world is black and white: until he meets Caleb Covington. Willie joins the Hollywood Ghost Club with the promise of getting color back, but soon realizes it’s not at all what he thought it would be. Rainy gives a very interesting take on how and why Willie joined the Hollywood Ghost Club. This is a fascinating take on the relationship between Willie and Caleb Covington. Warnings: character death, discussions of death Ships: Alex/Willie
How Long Till My Soul Gets It Right by partyghost (Arokel) (G, 1,351 words, complete) Willie spends his life looking at the stars, knowing he’s destined to uncover the secrets of the universe and maybe even get a constellation named after him. But he dies before he ever gets the chance. This is probably my very favorite Willie fic ever. This story gave me Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe vibes (that’s a compliment, I love that book). Warnings: character death, car accident  Ships: Alex/Willie
I’d Fall Anywhere With You by novaquill (NR, 59,297 words, complete) Everyone has a soulmate, except for Alex…or at least that’s what he thinks. The boys of Sunset Curve learn that soulmates can be found in unexpected places, and sometimes the soulmates that really matter are the ones you choose yourself. It’s not until after he dies that Alex realizes a mark has finally appeared on his skin. I love a good soulmate AU, and this did not disappoint. I loved this fic because it explores the boys of Sunset Curve’s friendship and how best friends can be your soulmates. Warnings: major character death, discussions of death, implied/referenced abuse, homophobia  Ships: Julie/Luke, Alex/Willie
Know That It’s Probably Magic by thessalonike (starblessed) (@julies-butterflies) (T, 4,652 words, complete) “A study in grief, loneliness, and the nature of haunting.” Julie thought Alex, Luke, and Reggie were haunting her house, but Flynn might be onto something when she says the boys are haunting Julie. This realization brings Julie’s world crashing down. They can’t be haunting her, right? This fic is beautiful and deep and perfectly written to be emotional without being over the top. There are amazing Double Trouble moments, and Flynn especially is very well-written. Warnings: discussions of death  Ships: None
Lie a Little Better by @willexxmercer (NR, SMAU on Tumblr, complete) Modern everybody lives/nobody dies AU. Alex needs a getaway from the hectic Hollywood life, so he goes to a resort in Canada. While there, he falls for Willie Covington, nephew of Caleb Covington and the one person Julie and the Phantoms swore to stay away from. When Caleb finds out about Alex and Willie, well, you can imagine what happens. I love this SMAU because it’s sweet but also suspenseful and keeps you wanting more. Kit is masterful at the cliffhanger and makes you really, really hate Caleb Covington. Warnings: manipulation  Ships: Alex/Willie
My Safest Place to Hide by @willexxmercer (NR, SMAU on Tumblr, complete) A Willex modern everybody lives/nobody dies AU. When Alex gets sick on their honeymoon, Willie must put his worries about Caleb and the gossip columns aside to take care of him. With Caleb threatening to make Willie’s life worse, Willie learns to lean on his husband and friends and accept their help for once. Kit does a great job of world-building using only texts and social media, and each chapter leaves you wanting more. Lots of sweet Willex moments and hating Caleb Covington moments. I also love Kit’s OCs. Warnings: implied/referenced abuse   Ships: Alex/Willie, Julie/Luke, Bobby/Reggie, Flynn/Carrie/OFC
Raw Nerves Can’t Kill Me (But God Do They Want To) by HearJessRoar (@hearjessroar) (G, 1,083 words, complete) Julie has a bad day, and it’s up to Flynn and the boys to cheer her up. Spider, Beetle, Bee by by WhatsYourNameMan (@wr0temyway0ut) (T, 8,970 words, complete) Alex and Bobby—though they aren’t Alex and Bobby yet—meet for the first time on the playground in kindergarten. From there, they become each other’s best friend and favorite person. They’re inseparable, and not even death can tear them apart. I saw Jamie (@bright-patterson)’s art on Tumblr and knew this would hurt going in, and yet I still cried the entire time I read it. I really love Rio’s handling of Bobby/Trevor: acknowledging what he did (and giving a reason that’s not “he’s a terrible person”), allowing the boys to forgive him, and making him a part of the family again. Bobby is depicted as just as valued and important to Sunset Curve as Alex, Luke, and Reggie. I promise it’s not all sad: there are so many moments of joy and friendship to balance the heartbreak. It’s Not Sunset Cis Either is essentially canon in my mind and Netflix can’t tell me otherwise. (You will need an A03 account to read this) Warnings: major character death, implied/referenced abuse, transphobia, homophobia, dysphoria, some misgendering and dead naming, drug and alcohol use, grief, swearing  Ships: Alex/Luke, Alex/Willie
The Spotlight’s Your Hiding Place by WhatsYourNameMan (NR, SMAU on Tumblr, complete) Enemies-to-lovers modern AU. Nick, Willie, and Bobby are in Julie and the Phantoms’ rival band. After discovering that Caleb Covington has been abusing Nick, Willie, and Bobby, JATP comes together to help their rivals escape Caleb’s control. Each chapter left me on the edge of my seat and wanting more.  Warnings: descriptions of abuse  Ships: Alex/Willie, Bobby/Reggie, Flynn/Carrie, Julie/Luke
Lab Rats/Lab Rats: Elite Force (Disney XD)
Because Family Matters by scribbler123 (T, 150,514 words, complete) A series of one-shots exploring Chase’s relationship with his wacky, wonderful, loud, bionic family. I really liked how scribbler123 looks at the relationship between Chase and Spike and makes Spike his own character rather than just a glitch in Chase’s bionics.  Warnings: canon-typical violence, bullying  Ships: None
Cacophony by Duck_Life (T, 26,209 words, complete)  During “Taken,” Bree is captured by Krane and turned into one of his bionic  soldiers. Nine months later, Krane is defeated and the Triton App is disabled. Bree must reconnect with her family while reconstructing the past nine months and making peace with what she did. I really like how Bree’s character is written and how Duck_Life explores the relationships between Bree and the rest of the Davenport-Dooley family. Bree’s struggles aren’t watered-down, she faces real problems and has to confront and process the trauma of the nine months she was under Krane’s control. Warnings: canon-typical violence, character death, PTSD  Ships: pre-Leo/Taylor
‘Cause It Feels so Frightening (Hits Me Like a Bolt of Lightning) by aletterinthenameofsanity (M, 5,407 words, complete) They’re heroes, they’re saviors of the President and princes and the world itself. They’re the best humanity—and Caldera—has to offer. But they’re also survivors, lovers, children, and they’ll do what it takes to protect those they love. When Chase and Kaz are captured by shapeshifters and a death rattles the Elite Force, the world learns what its heroes are truly capable of. I love Tasha's protectiveness and how this fic touches on the Lab Rats' relationship with Donald. Honestly he's not the best father, and I liked how this fic acknowledges that and the darker side of the show. Sometimes the show and the fandom forget that a lot of the characters are essentially child soldiers, especially the Academy students who were never given a choice but to be Krane's soldiers or Donald's heroes. Arguably, Adam, Bree, and Chase were never given a choice either—they could have (and did) walk away, but they're guilted into coming back. I love Chase and Kaz's relationship and Bree and S-1’s relationship—neither are ships I was ever really into, but I am now sold on them. I suggest reading part two of the Dares to Claim the Sky series first. (You will need an AO3 account to read this)  Warnings: major character death, graphic descriptions of violence, graphic descriptions of abuse, descriptions of torture, implied sexual content Ships: Bree/S-1, Chase/Kaz, past Chase/Sebastian, past Kaz/OMC,
Rat in a Cage by Duck_Life (T, 5,016 words, complete) Adam, Bree, and Chase are taken by the government in “You Posted What.” Bree tries to stay hopeful that the government agents will see that they’re on the same team, but it’s hard to believe when every day brings new struggles and horrors. Meanwhile, with the Lab Rats in a detention facility and Donald in jail, it’s up to Leo to convince the public that his family should be let go. I really like this take on the Lab Rats being taken by the government. Discovery was the biggest threat on the show before Krane, but if the Lab Rats had been taken it would have been “Disney-fied.” I like how Duck_Life’s take is realistic without going over the top or being gory.  Warnings: descriptions of torture, imprisonment Ships: None

A Flashback and a Film Reel by ybeecharmer (@yrbeecharmer) (M, 62,000+ words, incomplete)  Ten years after the Second Giant War and seven years after Nico broke Will’s heart, Nico goes on a mission to the Ancient Lands with Percy. Only to turn up, injured and fading, on Will’s doorstep. Will and Nico learned long ago to expect the unexpected, but this was not part of either of their plans. Apparently the Fates or the gods or someone had other ideas. I liked how Will and Nico get to process both their relationship and break-up as well as all their trauma from life as demigods. Katherine gave a really good, in-character reason for Nico breaking up with Will, and I also liked their reasons for having Will be where he is in his life as well (no spoilers!).  Warnings: graphic descriptions of self-harm, alcohol and drug use, implied/referenced sexual content, PTSD, depression, swearing  Ships: Nico/Will, past Will/OFC, past Will/OMC, past Will/Connor Stoll, past Nico/OMC
Altri Cinque Minuti (Five More Minutes) by AthenaFire (T, 17,646 words, complete)  Mortal/real world AU. Will, Nico, and the others attend Chase-Dare University together. Each winter, they make a trip to Rachel’s house in New York. They call the trip Saturnalia, after their old camp director Mr. Brunner’s obsession with Greek mythology. This is mostly fluff and friendship, but there is some angst too. I really liked the friendship and Solangelo moments in this (also Nico with Estelle is the cutest thing). Warnings: discussions of death, swearing Ships: Percy/Annabeth, Nico/Will, Frank/Hazel, Leo/Calypso, Sally/Paul
As the Ichor Flows by Phrophetsam (@phrophetsam) (T, 32,000+ words, incomplete)  After they return from Tartarus and win the Second Giant War, Percy and Annabeth are not the same. They are angrier, darker, and more powerful than ever. Told by friends and enemies and family, this is how two of Olympus’s greatest heroes destroy the very beings they were meant to protect. I love dark Percabeth, and boy does Phrophetsam deliver. I am 100% of the opinion that if Percy really wanted to, he could bring the gods down by himself (and if Luke had managed to sway him the Titans would have won the war, but I digress). Percy only becomes more deadly when he’s fighting with or for Annabeth. I especially liked Phrophetsam’s interpretation of the Olympians and their views on Percabeth turning against them. Warnings: major character death, graphic descriptions of violence,  implied sexual content Ships: Percy/Annabeth, Nico/Will, Frank/Hazel
Bloodlines by peachsocks (@peachhsocks) (T, 61,512 words, complete)  After the Second Giant War, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood after avoiding his friends (and everything demigod) for a year. Exhausted and traumatized from the past six years, Percy thought this month at Camp would be a time to reconnect and take a break from quests. Joke’s on him for thinking the gods would ever change. When he, Nico, and Thalia have the same dream about a group of young demigods, Percy is forced to deal with everything he’s been through and stop pushing his family away. I love how peachsocks gives Percy (and the others, especially Annabeth and Nico) a more realistic reaction to everything that happened during Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus. Warnings: canon-typical violence, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, minor character death Ships: Percy/Annabeth, Nico/Will, pre-Piper/Thalia
Gods at the Dawning of the World by FractalBeliefs (M, 34,587 words, complete)  A Solangelo AU based on The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. After the Second Giant War, the demigods of Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter find themselves at war with each other. Nico tries to stop the war, but can he keep history from repeating himself? After all, war is what demigods seem to do best. I’d read The Iliad and The Song of Achilles before I read this. I knew exactly what was going to happen. I still cried for half of this story. The parallels between the stories of Achilles and Patroclus and Nico and Will are very well done: subtle but not so subtle that they go right over the reader's head, but also not forced or obvious.  Warnings: major character death, graphic descriptions of violence, implied sexual content, discussions of anti-Semitism, the Holocaust, and Nazis Ships: Percy/Annabeth, Nico/Will
How Icarus Fell From the Sun by fictionbyanyothernamewouldsmellassweet (T, 57,942 words, complete)  “Nico felt like Icarus. Fly too close to the sun, and your wings will melt. Fly too close to the sea, your wings will grow heavy.” Nico swore he wouldn’t let anyone in—the last time he had done that was with Bianca, and she had joined the Hunters and died and left him alone with a broken heart. He tried to let Percy in, only to fly too close to the sea and drown. Then he met Will, and, against his better judgment, Nico decided to fly too close to the sun. I loved how fictionbyanyothernamewouldsmellassweet gave Nico and Will's relationship a realistic (and very in-character) progression and depth that the books kind of skipped over. I also really enjoyed how they incorporated Icarus and Plato's soulmates into Nico's story. I feel like Nico's trauma and everything he went through went unaddressed and under-appreciated in the books for the most part, and it was nice to see it acknowledged and how it has impacted every facet of Nico's life and character. Warnings: canon-typical violence, homophobia, outing of a gay character, character death Ships: Nico/Will
Of Gods and Men by plottingalong (@plottingalong) (T, 39,687 words, complete)  The old order is changing: the rules are different, old gods are awakening. Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, must come to terms with his own mortality…or lack of it. Plottingalong does an amazing job of showing how Percy’s relationships with his family, his friends, the Olympians, and even Camp Half-Blood itself change as he does. This is the best take on Percy becoming a god I have ever read. Plottingalong explores the nature of immortality within the PJO universe and really brings a different view of Percy’s godhood. Percy the god is different from—but still, in so many ways, the same as—Percy the hero, and I love how Plottingalong explores that. The story is grounded in the mythology of the PJO universe, but also ties up some loose ends in the universe really well. Warnings: major character death, canon-typical violence, discussions of death Ships: Percy/Annabeth, background Nico/Will, background Frank/Hazel, background Sally/Paul
Percy Jackson, Son of Aphrodite by wysteriaxx (NR, 34,000+ words, incomplete) “A half-blood of the eldest gods/Shall reach 16 against all odds/And see the world in endless sleep/The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap/A single choice shall end his days/Olympus to preserve or raze.” Everyone knows this prophecy. Everyone assumes it means a child of the Big Three—but there is one Olympian who is just as old: Aphrodite. I really liked this different take both on the Great Prophecy and on children of Aphrodite. Aside from Piper (and maybe Selina and Drew), Aphrodite’s children are generally pretty shallow in the Percy Jackson universe. This fic goes beyond cabin stereotypes and allows the children of Aphrodite to be more than just gossipers.  Warnings: canon-typical violence Ships: Percy/Annabeth, Nico/Will, Jason/Piper, Selina/Beckendorf, Sally Jackson/Poseidon
Slowly Dying by Valkyrie_Kain (NR, 66,000+ words, incomplete)  Pain and suffering have always been Nico’s best teachers. After the Giant War and his stay in the infirmary, Nico takes what little parts of him still remain and waits for his inevitable death. Unfortunately for him, Will Solace, Clarisse La Rue, and Salem, daughter of Dionysus, are more stubborn than he thought. Though not even all of Will and Salem’s magic can fix everything. My favorite thing about this fic is that Nico is given the chance to process his trauma on his own and with support—a lot of fics I’ve read kind of rush his healing process or make Will the cure-all for Nico’s trauma. Nico comes to want to work though his trauma rather than have it forced upon him. I also loved how Clarisse gets to shine: the books paint her as a bully and little else, and I liked seeing a different side of her. The two main OFCs, a daughter of Dionysus and a daughter of Aphrodite, are amazing. Aphrodite’s children are often one-dimensional and shallow, and Dionysus’s kids get barely a footnote. I especially liked Valkyrie_Kain's exploration of the “madness” aspect of Dionysus.  Warnings: graphic descriptions of violence, graphic descriptions of self-harm, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, PTSD, eating disorders, discussions of death, underage drinking, discussions of sex  Ships: Nico/Will, OFC / OFC
The Great Techno-Pop Debate of 2011 by cali-chant (girls_are_weird) (@girls-are-weird) (T, 5,500 words, complete)  When Will, Kayla, and Austin learn that Nico’s favorite genre of music is techno-pop, to say they’re shocked is an understatement. Who would have guessed that Nico di Angelo, the son of Hades who dresses exclusively in black, doesn’t have eau du MCR running through his veins? So they take it upon themselves to introduce Nico to emo music. There’s a little bit of angst, but this is pure fluff for the most part. I liked Cali’s use of Austin’s POV and the way they had Nico explain how he relates to “Welcome to the Black Parade” but doesn’t really like emo music.  Warnings: discussions of death, mentions of fascism  Ships: Nico/Will
The Logistics of Falling in Love by Fl_utterby (T, 72,000 words, complete)  College/mortal AU. If asked, Nico would say he isn’t a romantic. Will would say the same about himself (except they both totally are). If asked again, Nico would say Will is definitely not in love with him, no way. Will would say the same about Nico (except they’re both very wrong). This is the story of how they fell in love, told through books, music, and steady employment. I really liked Nico’s progression from someone who is kind of a jerk and won’t let people in to someone who is proud of himself and working to let people in again. The character and relationship development Nico and Will go through is so well-done. Warnings: None  Ships: Nico/Will, Percy/Annabeth, Frank/Hazel, Jason/Piper, Piper/OFC
Too Much Too Soon (And Now You’re Coming Unglued) by buoyanysaturn (@buoyantsaturn) (T, 22,342 words, complete)  College/mortal AU. When Will meets Nico freshman year, he thinks Nico is the love of his life. Then things go bad and Will can’t be around Nico without crying or fighting with him, and Will has to change his entire life. Three years later, it’s Will and Nico’s final semester of college and Will is finally forced to take that dreaded math class—only Nico’s in the class too, and worse the two end up being project partners. Feelings get in the way, and before they know it Will and Nico are secretly dating again. I love CJ’s writing so much, and they do a really good job of showing Will’s more overbearing side and demonstrating how that impacts his relationship with Nico. Will and Nico’s relationship is far from perfect, and I like how CJ gives them time apart to come to terms with what happened and grow as people.  Warnings: implied/referenced sexual content, mentions of internalized homophobia, mentions of outing of a gay character Ships: Nico/Will
What if Percy Did Become a God? by The Secret Life of a Fangirl (K+, 1,322 words, complete) More character study than plot, this explores what might have happened if Percy had taken Zeus up on his offer at the end of TheLast Olympian.  Warnings: None  Ships: Percy/Annabeth
Would You Wait for Me as I Long for You by buoyanysaturn (T, 48,938 words, complete)  After the events of The Tower of Nero, Hades gives Nico a task—and an ultimatum—that takes him away from Camp Half-Blood for three years. Now that Nico has returned to camp, he needs to face what he’s done and the rest of Camp Half-Blood—not to mention a very angry and hurt Will Solace. I really like how CJ writes Nico: the same person we all know and love, but beaten down by everything he’s been through and just wanting to do right by the people he loves. I also really like Drew in this fic: she’s more than the bully Lost Hero makes her out to be, and she really helps Nico. CJ has officially started my obsession with the “Nico disappears for a long time and comes back miraculously out of the blue” trope. Warnings: graphic descriptions of self-harm, graphic descriptions of panic attacks, character death, canon-typical violence  Ships: Nico/Will
Supernatural
Ex Nunc by orphan_account (NR, 10,038 words, complete)  Death is the beginning and the end. Neutrality. He’s been around as long as God, though neither of them can remember who was created first. Death is lonely, doomed to carry the weight of all the souls he takes. The other Horsemen can take some of the burden, but sometimes even they aren’t enough. Or Team Free Will (and Crowley) as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I really like how this fic incorporates canon relationships into the AU (I especially like how Dean and Benny’s relationship is portrayed).  Warnings: canon-typical violence, character death, grief   Ships: Dean/Castiel, Sam/Jess, Dean/Benny
Free Falling by malagenabolakaful (T, 5,731 words, complete) Episodes 15x18-15x20 from Sam’s point of view. First Sam lost Cas, then Jack, and now Dean. His entire family gone, Sam spirals out of control—and never stops. He tries to live a normal life like Dean wanted, but it’s harder than it was when he left for Stanford or even that year with Amy. This is the best finale fic I’ve read and captures my feelings about episodes 15x18-15x20 perfectly. Malagenabolakaful gives Sam his voice back and explains why he chose a wife and kid and “normal” while still keeping in line with canon. This is a very, very sad story. Not a fix-it or AU.  Warnings: major character death, canon-typical violence, graphic descriptions of panic attacks Ships: Sam/Eileen, mentions of Dean/Castiel, Sam/Mystery Wife
Frostbite by abcdefuk-off (@abcedfuk-off) (T, 111,000+ words, incomplete)  When Sam was fourteen, he got severe frostbite that resulted in permanent nerve damage in his hands. This makes hunting difficult and sends Dean’s protective instincts into overdrive. Set in season one with pre-series flashbacks, this story is full of brotherly bonding and action as Sam and Dean work a case. I love all of Sam’s works, especially their episode tags.  Warnings: canon-typical violence Ships: None
Hello My Old Heart by AndSoIWrite (T, 42,000+ words, incomplete)  The story of how Bobby met Sam and Dean, and how they wormed their way into the old hunter’s heart. I love how Bobby is pretty clueless when it comes to kids (Sam’s five and Dean’s nine in this story), but he really tries his best to do right by Sam and Dean. Warnings: references to abuse and neglect Ships: None
Measure My Life in Coffee Cups by KCS (T, 27,195 words, complete)  Ten significant cups of coffee in Sam’s life, from hunting with John and Dean to leaving for Stanford to reuniting with his brother and everything that comes after. KCS takes a creative approach to showing Sam and Dean over the years—the coffee theme ties everything together so well, and the snapshots are extremely well-written. The final deleted scene (post-series end) is so good and arguably better than the ending we got (this fic was written after S10 aired, for context).  Warnings: major character death, canon-typical violence Ships: Sam/Jessica
The Winchester Three by insearchofcheez (T, 166,934 words, complete) Six months after Sam leaves Stanford, Sam and Dean get a call: their sister Laney is in trouble. They race off to help her, only to find things aren’t exactly as they left them. Turns out Laney has abilities of her own—abilities which might get her killed. I love Laney as a character, and I love how she and the boys interact. Insearchofcheez does a great job of incorporating Laney’s story and abilities into canon. Warnings: major character death, implied/referenced rape, canon-typical violence, underage drug use, hospitals Ships: None
Trialculosis Sam by fogsrollingin (@fogsrollingin) (T, 115,000+ words, incomplete) The long, drawn-out, AU version of Sam taking on the Trials. Set after the second Trial, this story follows Sam and Dean (and later Kevin) as they struggle to come to terms with Sam’s impending death and try to alleviate the effects of the Trials. I enjoyed this different take on the Trials and how Alexandria upped the stakes. I also liked how Alexandria changed the third Trial to make it more exciting and dangerous.  Warnings: canon-typical violence, illness Ships: None
The Maze Runner
Tommy by Marcellebell (@marcellebell) (T, 39,000+ words, incomplete)  Twelve-year-old Thomas must face the realities of the Glade while dealing with the fact that someone—or many someones—wants him dead. I love how the relationship between Thomas and Newt and Minho is portrayed in this fic. I also really liked how Marcie changed the story so Thomas and Teresa are brother and sister instead of love interests.  Warnings: major character death, canon-typical violence, descriptions of abuse, descriptions of panic attacks, mentions of suicide Ships: None
The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunters (TV)
A Shared Life (The Male Drabble Alphabet) by RadientWings (@radientwings) (T, 35,798 words, complete) Getting together hadn’t been easy, so why would it be any different once their relationship is out in the open? Well, turns out staying in a relationship is both harder—and more enjoyable—than getting in one. An A to Z series of snapshots about Magnus and Alec’s relationship and life together. I love Magnus and Alec’s relationship so much, and RadientWings does a great job of bringing them to life.  Warnings: canon-typical violence, implied/referenced sexual content Ships: Alec/Magnus, background Clary/Jace
Forever and Always by ninwrites (@ninwrites) (G, 10,048 words, complete) Alec loves Magnus and wants to spend the rest of his life with him. Of course, in true Alec fashion, he doubts whether Magnus wants that too. Luckily, Alec has Jace and Izzy to talk him out of thinking Magnus wants anything less than to spend the rest of Alec’s life with him. I love a good proposal story, and I love Malec and everything they stand for. I love supportive parabatai, and Nin writes Jace and Alec’s dynamic so well. This story is so sweet and I smiled the entire time I read it.  Warnings: None  Ships: Alec/Magnus, mentioned Isabell/Simon, mentioned Clary/Jace
I Was Born to Tell You I Love You by Ayanfe (@lacascabel) (T, 2,611 words, complete)  “Isabelle has just turned sixteen when she asks Alec a question that breaks his heart. Isabelle is nineteen when Alec tells her something she didn't know she needed to hear.” Alec never thought of Izzy as insecure: she wore makeup like armor and she always had control and confidence. Turns out, she’s more insecure than he thought. Good thing Alec, Jace, and Clary are there to remind her she’s loved. I really liked how Ayanfe writes Alec and Izzy’s dynamic and gives Izzy some more depth as a character. She’s always portrayed as very confident and self- assured (and she is), and I liked seeing this different side of her.  Warnings: None  Ships: Isabell/Simon
The Umbrella Academy (TV)
I’ll Never Ask for More by lunalou (@lunal0u) (G, 7,142 words, complete) Klaus has been gone for three days, supposedly doing “extra training” with Dad. None of them have ever gone on extra training this long, and Diego and the others start to worry. Diego never does find out exactly what happened to Klaus, but maybe he and Ben can keep Klaus from falling apart when he returns. I really liked the exploration of the relationship between Diego, Klaus, and Ben—they’re kind of the odd ones out (Allison and Luther have each other, as a child Viktor supposedly has no powers, and Five thinks he doesn’t need anyone), and the three of them have a unique relationship because of that.  Warnings: underage drug use, character death, mentions of abuse, Ships: None
No Rest for the Wicked by InvitingNonsenseWorld (T, 30,054 words, complete)  After stopping the apocalypse, Klaus is totally fine. Being sober doesn’t suck, he’ll get to talk to Dave again, and he can handle the nightmares. No need to get the others involved, not when they have Viktor to focus on. Klaus is getting by fine on his own…until he isn’t. I really like how InvitingNonsenseWorld showcases the relationships between Klaus and the rest of the Hargreeves and gives them the time and space to confront their problems.  Warnings: implied/referenced abuse, alcohol and drug use, smoking, blood and injuries, discussions of death, Ships: Klaus/Dave
Say It One More Time (That the Universe Was Made for My Eyes) by CursedWonders (@cursedwonders) (T, 3,038 words, complete)  Before Ben died, he taught Klaus the constellations from the Academy rooftop. They would listen to music and gaze at the stars and pretend the ghosts that always followed Klaus didn’t exist. Then Ben dies and Klaus doesn’t know how to cope. Good thing he’s really good at pretending. Klaus and Ben have such a unique relationship, and I liked how this fic explores that. I love the song “Saturn” by Sleeping at Last (which is where the title comes from), it’s such a beautiful song and it fits this fic so well. Warnings: major character death, underage drug use Ships: None
Tell My Father (This is My Life) by aletterinthenameofsanity (M, 38,682 words, complete)  Ben pushes Klaus to convince Luther to let Viktor out of the cage in the basement. This changes everything: the apocalypse doesn’t happen, Klaus stays sober, and the Hargreeves siblings can finally begin to heal. I really loved how aletterinthenameofsanity explores each of the Hargreeves’ pasts and their powers, especially Allison and Five, whose sections were my favorites. Allison’s in particular gave the character so much depth and made her more relatable—her powers allow her to alter reality, and it was interesting to see how that would impact her throughout her life. I loved reading these characters exist and live and thrive without an apocalypse. Note: this was written before S3 came out, so Viktor is still Vanya.  Warnings: major character death, graphic descriptions of violence, implied/referenced child abuse, self harm, body horror Ships: Klaus/Dave, Diego/Patch, Viktor/OFC, Five/Delores
The Dead Aren’t Good Company by PosyPages (@thesevenumbrellas) (G, 14,763 words, complete)  They’d stopped the apocalypse and Five successfully transported them back in time to the Academy. Less than a month later, Reginald locks Klaus in the mausoleum again. This time, however, Klaus’s siblings are determined to do the right thing. This is the season 2 I wanted (though I loved the one we got).  Warnings: implied/referenced abuse,PTSD, discussions of death, drug use, descriptions of blood and gore Ships: None
The 100 (TV)
I’m Not What I Have Done (I’m What I’ve Overcome) by OsleyKomWonKru (T, 4,293 words, complete) What if Octavia took the Test instead of Clarke? How would the Last War end? I love Octavia, and I wish she had gotten redemption sooner in the series. I’m glad she got it, but I wish Spacekru and Clarke had tried to better understand what she went through in the bunker. This fic felt like a redemption and closure for her as a character, especially with Bellamy’s death.  Warnings: discussions of grief and death Ships: Octavia/Lincoln
Young Royals
And That’s How You Make History, Baby by waybeforeyourtime (T, 60,000+ words, incomplete) The story of Wilhelm and Simon: how they met young, fell in love young, and fell apart young, only to learn that some things were always meant to be and love is the most important thing. This is a story in three parts: Wilhelm, Simon, and Wilhelm and Simon. This is not one of those stories where they are apart for 99% of the story and then get together at the very end—them being together is part of the story, but it takes a while to get there. I loved this fic because Wille and Simon are given the time and space to grow and figure themselves out after the video and everything that came after. I also really loved Wille’s friendship with Maddison and Felice.  Warnings: implied sexual content, mentions of suicide, panic attacks, drug and alcohol use, mentions of racism Ships: Wilhelm/Simon, Wilhelm/OMC, Simon/OMC
Screwed by fandom_commitment_issues (@zee-has-commitment-issues) (T, 173,813 words, complete)  Erik lives, but the video of Wille and Simon still goes viral, August is still August, and everything is still a mess. Zee developed Simon and Wille’s relationship so well, and I loved how Wille has a real support system beyond just Simon and Felice. Erik is also developed into a real character with an excellent side-plot rather than just a plot device. Zee balances angst, humor, fluff, and romance so well throughout this fic. I laughed and cried but also yelled “f*ck August/Kristina” at my phone several times. I think it can be easy to forget that Wille and Simon are teenage boys caught in an impossible situation, but Zee captures that perfectly. Warnings: implied sexual content, implied/referenced alcoholism, implied/referenced abuse, descriptions of panic attacks, outing of a queer character, alcohol and drug use, mentions of restrictive eating Ships: Wilhelm/Simon, Erik/OFC
Crossover:
Chronicles of Narnia x Harry Potter
Noble Heart Such as Yoursby aletterinthenameofsanity (NR, 21,398 words, incomplete)  Harry Potter and Dean Thomas meet as kids, well before Hogwarts, and become best friends. One of Dean’s moms, Susan Pevensie, tells the boys stories about Narnia. Susan warns the boys not to put their faith and trust in gods and old men who claim to be good and wise. In this world, Harry has green on his robes instead of red and a family that loves him (and one that doesn’t). The kids have adults they can rely on, and cunning and ambition are celebrated instead of scorned. I never read crossovers or Drarry, but I gave this a shot because I love aletterinthenameofsanity’s writing. It did not disappoint. They meshed the worlds of Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia perfectly (and the mention of Hufflepuff Peter Pevensie!). I especially loved how they handled Susan Pevensie. She has a very special place in my heart, and I love to read stories where she gets to live and love and thrive post-Narnia. Comparing Harry and Edmund was brilliant (Slytherin Harry is my favorite Harry, and don’t even get me started on Edmund). The Slytherins get to grow and change and prove they aren’t their parents, and I applaud that. The main story is complete, the additional chapters are companion pieces. Warnings: major character death, canon-typical violence, references to abuse, mentions of racism, use of racist slurs, discussions of death Ships: Draco/Harry, Ron/Hermione, Seamus/Dean, Susan Pevensie/OMC/ OFC, Tonks/OFC

have some reborn au i wrote last night. itachi pov, both double times as the start to tori's book club adventures and itachi's fake dates
there's a joke about not microwaving styrofoam.... i just wanted to note before someone "corrects" me that i know there are some supposedly microwave safe styrofoams (like, for example, some types of cup noodles) but in general i would avoid microwaving styrofoam because they can leech toxins into your food and like. melt.
--
Itachi was relieved when Tori pitched an idea for their first date herself.
“Hey,” she said, snagging his arm in the ANBU breakroom. ANBU Rat looked up from intently watching her lunch in the microwave. “Can I talk to you about something?”
“You’re not supposed to be here,” Itachi told her, although part of him was pleased. Gossip in ANBU ran fast. Rat would surely be telling everyone about Tori spontaneously appearing to talk to him.
He didn’t ask about how she’d gotten into ANBU. If Tori decided she was going somewhere, she went there. She had her lab coat on, which meant she’d probably just wandered over there from R&D. Tori loved talking about how people just listened to people in lab coats, and no warning signs or fancy fuinjutsu was going to stop her.
“And you make yourself hard to find,” Tori countered.
This comment was undoubtedly bad for their budding relationship’s PR. Itachi quickly course-corrected.
“Why don’t we talk over dinner?” he suggested. “I get off at six.”
Tori’s eyes narrowed, suspicious. The microwave dinged and ANBU Rat removed a take-away box.
“My treat,” Itachi offered. “We haven’t caught up in a while.”
“Yeah, okay,” Tori agreed. She’d always been easy to bribe with a free meal. She turned on her heel and pointed accusingly at ANBU Rat. With evident disgust in her voice, she asked, “Did you just microwave styrofoam?”
Itachi decided Rat would be a valuable witness, as she’d be able to report Itachi neither chastised Tori for sneaking in nor did he do anything to prevent her from telling Rat off over her microwaving etiquette. This was clear favoritism.
Itachi’s shift ended late, which wasn’t unusual, and he found Tori in one of the chunin breakrooms flipping through a book catalog. She filled him in on her conundrum on their walk over the restaurant: she’d enjoyed her trip to the fan convention, and wanted to start her own fan club in Konoha to recapitulate the sort of mindless fun only a group of people united in love for bad genre fiction could share.
“Kakashi said he’d join whatever club, but he refuses to talk Icha Icha with me and the Konoha chapter won’t let me in anyway,” she complained. She flapped the catalog at him. “So I have to find a different series.”
Itachi chose a restaurant with outdoor seating along a busy street. Through some minor genjutsu, he convinced a couple to leave early and then a waiter to clear their table immediately so they could be in full view of the passing crowds. If Tori noticed, she was too busy gesticulating with the catalog and reciting prices to say anything.
It was true that Itachi was a connoisseur of bad ninja fiction, a hobby cultured over long days of uninterrupted travel with Akatsuki. He hadn’t allowed himself much time in this lifetime to read, but he still remembered his favorite inane plots and ridiculous depictions of ninja. It would be interesting to see if his old favorites had stayed the same or not in this timeline, and he found himself missing his old hobby.
“I’d be happy to join,” he said, perfectly sincere, when the waiter left them with their menus.
“Oh, good,” Tori replied, eyes brightening. “Okay, so we have three people. Do you think we could convince Deidara?”
Deidara had… mixed opinions on consuming bad art intentionally. As far as Itachi could tell, Deidara was in a constant tug-of-war between his artistic principles and his own personality, and the appeal of bad media seemed to go completely over his head unless he were in the mood to be mean about something. This was fine for a bad movie night, but maybe not the mood Tori was looking for with her little book club. Then again, Itachi was fairly confident he could simply tell Deidara a single opinion on art, and this would incite a lively debate lasting hours.
“I figured if we host it at our place, he’ll be forced to join,” Tori said, drumming her fingers on the table in thought.
“That could backfire,” Itachi pointed out. Deidara was so dedicated to his art that he often didn’t care if he lost his own possessions to it. “You can’t expect Deidara to let a quiet evening continue to be quiet if he even suspects he’s been manipulated into it.”
“Well, maybe we should pick a series first,” Tori backtracked.
They ordered, and Itachi leafed through the catalog while they waited for food. Tori told some story he could barely follow about how when she was growing up, some books would come with cheap costume jewelry attached to them, and she always begged for those books even though she knew she wouldn’t like the story.
“They were always about unicorns, and unicorns are just fantasy horses. And I am not a horse girl, Itachi,” she said very seriously.
Itachi assumed she was talking about her previous life. When Tori shared details of her childhood in this timeline, they were usually more disturbing, but at least they made sense.
“Although it was a great marketing tactic,” Tori continued, picking up her chopsticks and clicking them together thoughtfully. “Imagine if Icha Icha did that. ‘Free anal beads included with every purchase’--”
The waiter chose this moment to arrive with their food, and Tori’s cheeks went pink. Itachi had to duck his head to hide a smile.
“I thought you said Jiraiya was afraid of anything anal,” Itachi said when the waiter left. That had been one of her favorite rants. Apparently Jiraiya’s homoerotic obsession with Orochimaru manifested as internalized homophobia or something, according to Tori.
“Ugh,” Tori replied, performatively holding a hand over her eyes. “Listen, just tell me what PG-13 series we could read so I don’t embarrass myself in public again.”
“So do you want me to exclude the ones with horses…?”
Itachi eventually suggested a series which was one of his personal favorites. The first installment lent its name to the whole of the series, and was called Kitty Girl Stabby Ninja. The plot followed a kunoichi sent to assassinate a male missing-nin from her village, but a jutsu gone wrong turned the kunoichi into a cat instead. She was then adopted by the missing-nin, and shenanigans ensued. It was, as far as Itachi had gathered from interviews with the author, written as an inside joke among friends, and she’d simply kept going when the book had received unexpected popularity, writing about increasingly absurd scenarios about people (and once, the concept of a ninjutsu itself) being turned into cats. In Itachi’s opinion, what made the ridiculous shinobi-themed adventures fun rather than puzzlingly inaccurate, was that the narrative never once took itself seriously, except in a handful of a character interactions and emotional beats. The overall result was that the series was a light, charming read.
“There’s four books out now,” Itachi said, watching Tori’s face as he talked, “and I believe a fifth one should be out soon. I haven’t been following it recently.”
By “recently” he meant “in this timeline.”
Tori had been listening to him with the sort of intense concentration she used when listening to mission briefings, her brows furrowed and her gaze focused on the food in front of her. It was one of her funnier quirks, how seriously she could take relatively unimportant things like a book club. Itachi had thought it made her seem flighty and bad at prioritizing when he first met her, but given it seemed to incur no cost to her ability to concentrate on her actual job, he’d decided it was more endearing, the way Kakashi’s perpetual lateness could seem almost charming after you’d just accepted it as part of personality.
“No, you’re right,” she told him. “The catalog had a full-page advertisement for the new one. I guess it is pretty popular.”
“I believe it spurred several sister series,” Itachi said. “And the author started hiring ghost writers at some point, so there will always be a new book a few months away.”
Tori hummed, pleased.
“That means the lore must be intricate,” she said. “That always makes for good fannish activity. Bonus points if it’s also slightly incohesive– that’s what really gets people fixated.”
Itachi didn’t know how to comment on that. But Tori seemed happy about the idea, so he held back a comment about the drop in quality that also happened with the introduction of ghost writers.
“Alright, I’m convinced,” Tori declared. “We’ll start a Kitty Girl Stabby Ninja book club. I wonder if there are official clubs? I know Ebisu somehow got their Icha Icha club to be officially sanctioned despite the whole secretive ninja village thing, but that one seems a little different because… well, you know…”
When the waiter cleared their plates, Itachi asked for a dessert menu.
“I think we should share this,” he said, pointing at an item at the bottom of the menu. It was their special house sundae, which he had been coveting for months now. It had three types of ice cream, every in-season fruit you could think of, and both white and dark chocolate shavings. The only thing that had prevented him from ordering it sooner was that it was too much for one person, even him.
“Ah, I see your game,” Tori said, eyeing him knowingly. “Sure, I’ll help you eat your weight in dessert.”
Itachi could feel the tips of his ears going pink, but it wasn’t like he’d invited her out just to have an excuse to order a sundae. No, he’d just concluded that sharing an ice cream in public would be an undeniably romantic thing to do and also sufficiently in-character for him for his parents to believe it. The fact that he’d also once had a dream about the sundae was simply an added perk.
“How many people do you want to recruit?” Itachi asked while they waited for their dessert monstrosity.
“Ten people or fewer, I think,” Toro replied. “Too many and then the discussion can’t be as good. But I figure the first few meetings will have more, and people will drop out because they don’t like the book or they don’t have time or, like, Deidara will scream at someone. And then eventually we’ll get it down to a few dedicated people.”
Itachi thought it would be equally likely that Tori herself would assert something like Only a moron would microwave styrofoam and rub someone the wrong way, or Kakashi would be so intentionally annoying at someone that they’d hide from public for the rest of the week. He held himself back from saying anything, though, even though he’d be entirely correct, because their dessert arrived.
The ice cream’s size was so great that the waiter needed both hands and they had to clear a space on the table themselves. Tori’s eyebrows rose only slightly as she took it in. A woman at the table next to them grinned knowingly at them. Good, good.
“Your place is too small for ten people,” Itachi observed, grabbing his spoon.
Tori seemed to think this over for a few moments. Then she said, “But there’s nowhere else, unless you want to volunteer your place.”
Itachi held back a wince. His parents would probably agree, but then he’d have to go through the awful process of navigating his parents’ attempts to monitor his personal life, and then also dodging the inevitably of Sasuke wanting to join and him having to say no. No, this would suck any ounce of joy he might find in a silly activity like a book club.
“I thought so,” Tori said, without him having to verbalize any of this. “Maybe we could pressure Kakashi into it, but I don’t think he has much space either. Plus he’d be tempted to like… lock us out on purpose or something and pretend he forgot.”
This seemed plausible.
“Kushina-sensei would let us,” Itachi offered. Tori immediately made a face.
“No one’s going to want to meet at the Hokage’s residence,” she protested.
“Why not?” Itachi asked.
“Because the Hokage could be there,” she said, and Itachi noted she’d only eaten a single strawberry off the sundae. “No one’s going to want to talk about their dumb headcanons under threat of the Hokage overhearing.”
“None of the potential members you listed will care,” Itachi pointed out.
Tori frowned, very carefully shaving off ice cream with her spoon in some sort of exact ratio with chocolate. Itachi was right, of course. If anything, Kakashi would be more open at Kushina-sensei’s house, and no one from Team 4 would care. Hokage-sama was a less intimidating host than Itachi’s parents, anyway.
“But I want to recruit normal people,” Tori said eventually. “Random career chunin. Civilians. You know, new people.”
“Alright,” Itachi said. “Like who?”
Tori stared back at him. She held her gaze while he had several bites of ice cream, her face slowly screwing up as she wracked her brain for “normal” people she thought she could conceivably approach about a book club. Itachi was fairly certain she wasn’t going to think of anyone.
“Perhaps one of your labmates?” he suggested.
Tori averted her gaze, looking mildly peeved. So she was still failing to make friends with anyone in lab.
“I don’t think it being at the Hokage’s residence will be more of a deterrent than the presence of any of your other members,” Itachi said slowly. “You picked… an intimidating group.”
Tori actually rolled her eyes. “Like you’re all that intimidating,” she said.
“My performance review says I’m unapproachable and mean and my reputation prevents people from commenting on it in pursuit of a solution,” Itachi countered, which actually provoked a laugh from Tori. He didn’t think this review was very fair, because he was almost always correct so why would anyone need to argue with him, but he acknowledged Hokage-sama kept having increasingly stressed talks with him about it.
“Okay, so you’re awful,” she allowed, “but Kakashi? Please. Anyone who’s met him knows he’s just a weird dog man.”
“I think your perspective might be skewed,” Itachi told her.
He did not point out that Tori herself had an extremely strong personality, and that the only reason she didn’t already have her own reputation was that forbidden jutsu were by necessity kept secret, so very few people knew how routinely she churned them out. It wasn’t as obvious as his or Kakashi’s or Deidara’s because she was a smiley fifteen year old girl who intentionally carried herself like a civilian, but once you peeled back the several layers of facade, Tori was someone who’d crafted her personality under Orochimaru and the Akatsuki. It was probably why she wasn’t good at making friends– the other shinobi in R&D could undoubtedly sense there was something deeply wrong with what was going on with Tori under the surface.
Part of what was deeply wrong with her was that she wanted to rope a bunch of normal, unsuspecting people into a book club where she’d probably start spouting conspiracy theories, but that wasn’t the point.
“Are you trying to use this club to pretend you’re still clinging to your civilian life, because you feel that’s what your normal should be?” Itachi asked.
Tori’s lips thinned. In a perfect deadpan, she said, “What the fuck, Itachi.”
Too far then, okay. Probably something he shouldn’t push in public, especially when he was pretending to be on an extremely romantic date.
(This meant he was right, though.)
He deflected by saying, “Have you considered Kushina-sensei and Hokage-sama might want to join?”
Tori groaned loudly. “I just said–” she started.
She didn’t want any commanding officers at the club. Itachi pointed out her only guaranteed members right now were himself and Kakashi, who were both celebrated Jounin and ANBU captains. Deidara was also a rather infamous Jounin. Tori seemed to get frustrated with his completely sound logic, and switched to asking him what snacks he thought they should have.
“I think I’ll have to come up with discussion questions too,” she said. “Do you want to help with that?”
“Discussion questions? Why?” Itachi asked.
Tori’s lips quirked up. “I forgot,” she teased. “You’re uneducated.”
Itachi didn’t think this was fair. The Tori of this timeline had never had any sort of formal schooling.
“Don’t pout,” Tori told him, performatively sticking her nose up. “You know it’s true. Anyway, the point of discussion questions would be to provoke conversation and keep people from going off topic. We wouldn’t necessarily use them all, but they’d be there for structural purposes.”
Itachi ended up eating most of the ice cream himself, and he felt uncomfortably full as he offered to walk Tori home. She shot him a confused look.
“Why?” she asked. “I’m out of your way.”
“I want to…” Itachi started. Mostly he wanted to be seen with her, doing boyfriend-like things. “I want to walk off…”
She laughed at him again, needing no further context to understand what he meant. It wasn’t mocking, but rather that she found his predicament genuinely funny.
“Fine, let’s go along the river, then,” she decided.
It was a slightly longer walk, but it was undeniably prettier, with the promenade lined by trees. The sun was setting, and the orange glow reflected back at them from the water. It was much more romantic too, he decided. Couples in romance novels were always walking along bodies of water.
That wasn’t bad at all, Itachi decided when he left Tori at the corner of her street. It had been fun, even. That had really been no different from spending time with her as a friend, although perhaps next time he should come up with an excuse to hold her hand. Itachi very rarely had time to spend casually with friends, but he always enjoyed quiet time spent with Shisui, and, he supposed when he thought about it, he did largely enjoy time with Team 4.
Why didn’t everyone just date their friends? This was the best idea he’d had in a while.

hii savee!! i must ask... How is Warren to Shrignold? And how is Shrignold to Warren? Asking this because idk if you are seeing them as a happy, healthy couple or as an okay relationship( an relationship with fights but in the end they forgive eachother and etc.) 😁🌼
Welb, when i ship characters im not the kind who just wanna see them together and aaah love hearts and flowers, but im not a problematic topics fan either, i just like see them like lab rats and explore their dynamic through fanfics or fanart. So, i think that, at first, it would be some complicated.
Warren is egocentric and annoying, He would probably be desperate for attention at first and wouldn't like Shrignold doing his responsibilities. Besides, surely he would care little or nothing about the cult, therefore he would not take into consideration the time that it drains from Shriggs or even he would not have the proper respect for the place. Too cloying that it's stressful. He would eventually learn that this way he would not win over Shrignold (who, by the way, is not the type to let himself be bothered.), and, as I say, he would finally be somewhat more domesticated in the area of being intense and a jerk.
On the other hand, Shrignold would probably be so focused on his community that he wouldn't have the energy to deal with someone like Warren at the end of the day. He is a leader, someone who is authoritarian, but that would weaken him for his special one, therefore he would sin by not him back into the fold. when it is due, and he would also show clear annoyance at the worm's insubordinate attitude. However, he would not have enough patience and would finally "educate" him( w ) little by little to measure the bad side of Warren.
At the end of the day, they are quite different and equal characters at the same time, they would have their clashes and similarities of course, but they would solve it.
Personally, I am not the cheesy kind, I do not believe in happy endings or science fiction, I do not believe in anything that is unreal in all its senses, therefore, I would not classify them as a "healthy relationship" or "ok(?) relationship ", theyre just like, arguments from time to time, forgiving each other later, learning from each other's good and bad things... like a real relationship!

Not to like take funny joke and turn a lecture out of it like somebody’s dad, but as one of the five people who actually thinks Micheal Morbius is kind of a fun character in the comics, I think how terrible the movie is merely a symptom of how the mainstream American populace conceptualizes the medium of comics.
Traditionally American comics, especially those created by the big two publishing houses, Marvel and DC, has been dominated by the superhero genre. There are of course outliers, most of the newspaper strip industry is slice of life comedy, romance and teen comedy books like Archie show up from time to time, and sci-fi, fantasy, horror and noir books pop up from time to time but the public perception of “what comic books are” in America has always leaned towards the Batmans, Supermans, and Spidermans.
However even within the realm of superhero comics there are characters that don’t quite fit into the narrative framework of the superhero quiet as neatly as you’d think. Michael Morbius for example tends to be written as a a tragic little mad scientist gremlin man who lives in the sewers (but still wears a costume with a plunging neckline for some reason) who occasionally shows up, waxes poetic about how tragic his lot in life is gets chased by Spider-Man and lays low for a bit afterwards. Not exactly superhero material but entertaining in a wet rat kind of way. The problem arises however when the film studio got a hold of him.
Basically the way I figure it whenever an American film studio gets a hold of a comic license for adaptation they try to turn it into a cut and dry superhero movie (protag is good guy, here is bad guy, protag must beat up bad guy, protag wins thunderous applause). This works with characters like the avengers because that’s what their stories tend to be about, however not so much if the character(s) you’re adapting aren’t traditional superhero comics characters. Take the Fantastic Four for example, a lot of the strength of their books comes from their open and curious exploration of the unknown, and the familial dynamics between all the team mates. They arguably share more fictional dna with Star Trek than Iron Man. However when they made both the originals and Fanfourstic, they tried to just have the plot be a knock down drag out fight with Doctor Doom. Sure Doom is a cool villain but their fights with him isn’t the reason why fans really like the F4.
Similarly with Morbius, Sony tried to make a fairly simple superhero narrative when most fans like Michael for classic mad scientist/vampire angst. He’s not a character who’s most interesting in a fight, he’s most interesting brooding in a subterranean lab. Honestly with the whole fixation tumblr has on horrible little rat men, I think they could’ve had something great on their hands (provided they changed the casting) if they just stocked closer to that character concept. However, because the Marvel name was slapped on it the directors probably felt like they had to do something traditionally super heroic.
Of course the idea that American comics are purely superhero affairs is a false one as I outlined before, however the movie going public, especially a non-comic reading public, doesn’t realize that. So when they go to see a comics adaptation, that’s the kind of narrative they expect. Now while their’s something to be said about playing to audience expectations, it does a disservice to the narrative in this case, and also does not help shift the public’s idea of what kind of stories comics can offer as a medium.
TLDR: Morbius didn’t work because they tried to put doctor Frankenstein in a cape and thought there wouldn’t be any resultant tonal issues.

Maze Runner Books Ranking Worst to Best
I finally made myself read thr 4th TMR book, which I had been putting off for months because it didn't have Thomas in it. So yup, this is how I rate them,
1- The Fever Code- The Gladers' childhood? Finally seeing how Thomas was involved in making the maze? Seeing W.I.C.K.E.D.s full cruelty and torture regarding its 'lab rats'? Like, YES! I loved loved LOVED the gladers' dynamics and how they met each other and how they sneaked out of their rooms/cells at night to talk and had their little-kid-moments despite everything that was happening. And damn that opening scene with Newt and Sonya was CHILLING! And that was immediately followed by a 6yo (as i remember), being TORTURED into forgetting his own NAME! And wow the way he just goes to sleep repeating the wrong name after days of holding onto his real one coz he finally breaks like...wow... and dang that Minho torture scene with the Griever was INSANE- and Thomas's reaction to it!!!!! It just had that perfect mix of light hearted-ness and disturbing-ness that I look for in fiction.
2- The Kill Order- Ikr, I was suprised too. But it was actually so good and interesting- learning how it all started. And the Cranks just- wow. The books don't have a lot of cranks in them, and the ones in the movies are nowhere near as close to being disturbing (which is rly the only thing i can criticise about them). It hardly has any light-hearted moments tho, which is why it's 2nd. But OMG THE ENDING!!! The way Mark KNOWS that he's going crazy and does sadistic things but he and his friends hang on to sanity as much as possible to get DEEDEE (TERESA, ikr) to safety and wow poor Mark definitely did NOT mean that when he told W.I.C.K.E.D. to "use her", like damn, after all that effort Teresa still dies!?!?! Omg James! And usually I'm not a huge fan of romance but that ending was just *chef's kiss*- the way Trina finally remembers him and they kiss and then the Berg crashes and they both fricking die! And that Prologue really gave an insight into how Teresa has been groomed since she was 4 into believing "W.I.C.K.E.D. is good". And the Epilogue, wow, poor Thomas.
3- The Maze Runner- I honestly prefer the movies for the TMR trilogy, but there were definetely some cool parts in the book. Loved the whole "Griever takes one each day" scenario- that just builds up so much suspense and the way Gally goes insane from waiting and throws himself at a monster! And the way Thomas waits till it takes one and then jumps on too to get stung really shows how much of a survivalist he is. And I gotta say I prefer the Grievers in the books cause in the movies they're just typical monsters. But some parts were too dystopian-ish. The door in the sky and a few other stuff were too messy, ig.
4-The Death Cure- Defs preferred the movie for this one. Also had the same problem of being too dystopian. Didn't like how he moved on from Teresa so easily, like, she didnt really do anything wrong, she just wanted to save him and sacrificed herself for him! I liked Newt's "Please Tommy, please" line and how Thomas was the one who killed him. That was much more impactful. But overall, I prefered Newt's death in the movie. But yeah the movoes were amazing so
5- The Scorch Trials- The books just SUCKED for this one. So boring and long and I hardly understood anything cause of all the advanced technological shit. Ig that is the point- to get the needed data, Gladers have to be confused, and the book's in a Glader's pov so we dont know what happens either. But it would've been better if they at least found out later. Like, how did the brick walls appear on the windows? Where did the bodies come from? Where did they go? Who killed them? How did the tattoos appear? How did Ratman get there? Why was Teresa in the Scorch (i get that wicked wanted to confuse them, but that was just weird, but maybe that was the point)? Teresa's whole betrayal plan was weird. Why did the walls randomly start saying that Thomas was the leader? Why did they have to fight weird glow blob monsters? Yeah that was a horrible read. The movie wasn't exceptional compared to the other 2, but still a 1000× better, really fun.

So, I just gotta say this, I love a little bit of spice in my fan fictions(if you don’t know what I mean you don’t belong on my page lol.) I saw a lab rats elite force “spicy” story, and so I checked it out. It was a good story, but the best part was the author calling back to the fact that Kaz wears two pairs of pants. As you can imagine, this set a mood for the rest of the experience!!! 😂😂😂 oh lord I need help.
(P.S. I could link the story if anyone wanted to read it…)

They created a monster and blamed me for becoming one
Sorry this is my first fan fiction so I’m sorry if it’s absolutely dog ass. You can read this on Ao3 just look up my user Akittysuki14
Warnings: violence, swearing, gore
you awoke in a cold damp cell, you have never been so cold in her life, the air was to damp and fridged. The little clothes you had on did nothing to block out the frozen air, you could hear you teeth chattering echo in the cell. Where were you? You had no memory of getting here. You were just back on your way to the orphanage from school before everything went black. Was this some prank? Was the boys from her orphanage trying to make fun of you again for never having a chance to get a family. You were always different than the other kids you would admit to that but you always thought there was always the smallest chance that somebody somewhere would want you.
you pushed those thoughts into the back of your mind. You took a look around your cell nothing to special. A window that barley let in any light but let into much cold air. A bucket in the corner for your business and a small cot with the thinnest blanket, no enough to get you warm or stay warm. The cell smelt like mold and sewage. You knew somehow someway you where gonna be here for a long time that this was going to be your new home. no comforts, no blankets, no books, no nothing. Just you and your cell with a damn near empty bed that was a damn rock with a single sheet. This cage was going to be your life and this cage was gonna be your hell.
You knew you’ve been in the cell for years, being pulled out by masked man in suits to protect themselves as if you were a virus always having a gun pointed to your back. One wrong move and they shoot, you’ve had to learn that lesson multiple times. You were a lab rat, but you weren’t the only one. From what you could tell most of the people here were orphans from all over the world many from the americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East but never any from their own country. I think it’s to assume that they didn’t want you to know what they were doing. If you couldn’t speak their language you couldn’t fight back as much. You knew the others didn’t speak a lick of Russian, neither can you but you did pick on some that was bound to happen. “Sit, stay, move, etc.” just the basics they allow.
They called you 23614 they didn’t care for your actual name they never cared to asked or seem to want to ask. Day after day they would inject you with something that would course through your bloodstream like lava making you scream and writhe around only thing keeping you still was the straps holding you down. Vladimir talsov was the man you feared. Talsov always enjoyed what he did, he loved hurting people and experimenting on them.
“Ah yes (y/n) welcome back, ready for another round?” Talsov said with a smirk on his face. “No please, please I can’t do this anymore it hurts!!! IT BURTS TO MUCH” you screamed. “ just as I intended darling, you’re the only one that’s been able to handle this better then the others. Your special, you are gonna be the to complete my expiration that I’ve been doing do 56 years. Body after body none have been able to handle it but you my dear are going to be the one I can feel it in my soul” he laughed “Fuck you, you have no fucking soul you monster” you screeched your voice cracking. “That may be true, but I am finally going to create my master piece after all these years and I am going to make sure you are the best thing that has ever been created! I will make you the strongest thing to walk this earth even if it means I have to break and kill you over and over to do so!” His eyes shown with a light of a mad man. You knew that he was right you’ve been here for years and he was going to make sure that you would be here for more. Made sure that you were what he has always wanted to create.
He had his men come in and made sure that your straps were tightened correctly making sure you wouldn’t be able to escape. You were unable to move an inch of your body and were only forced to watch as talsov got his station ready for you. All you could see was the tray he rolled over with all the tool he was going to use on you. So many sharp objects, vials with unknown substances. This was going to hurt worse then anything he’s done to yo hand you knew it. He was excited for it, he was humming underneath his breath in Russian. “ Did you know that I used to fight a war?” He stated directly at you asking with a grin. “I don’t care what war just do what you have to and FUCKING KILL ME TALSOV!!” You were screaming and writhing in your restraints, you were scared and tired of this you just wanted it to end, you were desperate for it to end willing to do anything. “Oh but I won’t do that dear, you see when I was a young boy I was giving a type of freedom no other man has gotten. You see I was allowed to experiment on thousands and do just about anything to them as long as one they died or two they became a weapon. You see most of them died the Jews you see there was always an abundance of them and us nazis well were damn near allowed to do anything to them. You see I had a deal with a man a very important man you might say one of the most important and powerful men during this time. If I were to created the most powerful weapon in the world I would be considered one of the best scientists of my generation. My face and name would never be forgotten but by the time I was getting somewhere the war was over and I was forced to go into hiding and my research slowed a bit so I made a deal with the Russians” he said as he was preparing his vials for ejections.
“I was willing to never have my name mentioned in the books as long as I was able to continue, why would I go this far to not finish by work hmmm? At the end of the day my name doesn’t matter but my master piece does and that master piece has finally after years of trying and failing over and over it has finally been found. You my dear are going to be my master piece and you will always remember my name.” He laughed manically. “What are you going to do to me this time talsov?, what sick plan do you have now to make me your strongest weapon, you sick fuck!” You were screaming terrified to what was to come. “ after 56 years I have finally created the serum to create the ultimate weapon but don’t worry dear this is going be the worst pain your going to endure” he grabbed the syringe and filled it up with the substance the tube was glowing it was almost a spiderweb of colors black, pink, purple and blue it was constantly shifting like it was alive. When he sucked up the contents into the syringe the substance seem to get aggressive like it was alive, you knew that this, this thing was going to change you as a human being.
He grabbed your arm and injected it he pushed it in slow and the pain, you couldn’t even fathom the pain can’t even begin to explain the pain it felt like something was crawling inside your blood vessels attaching itself to every part of your being. A thing hiding inside of you making you it’s vessel. It felt like it’s class were made of razor blades cutting and flowing into the cuts and burning it’s way into them and then healing them and repeating it over and over again. Your screams were echoing off the wall, you were screaming so loud you could see talsov cover his ears. You could taste blood, feel blood you were bleeding from your eyes, ears, both and mouth. You were decomposing and being rebuilt over and over. The pain was too much and you blacked out the last thing you saw was talksovs smile of pure joy. You knew that he had finally created his masterpiece.
(Sorry I’m quite new to writing and I don’t mean to offend anyone with the mention of Jews or nazis. I apologize if I have and I have to admit I’m not the best writer so my grammar is bound to be terrible)

on behalf of stranger things & eddie munson fans,
og fans who are annoyed of all the eddie stan’s, first of all, why? why are you so mad at these fans for loving eddie? second, respectfully, calm down. not trying to be mean right now, but towards the side that’s mad about all the eddie stans, please calm down. these fans clearly kin with him or have a crush on him or eddie is there comfort character. you probably have one too, and you’re probably obsessed as well. there is absolutely nothing wrong with being in-love with a certain character, seeing yourself in a character/kinning one, having them as a comfort character, editing the character, or mourning the characters death. just because they’re fans of the show because of eddie (or bigger fans if they were already fans) does not mean you have to attack them just for liking eddie munson. joseph quinn gave an amazing performance as him and he deserves the recognition he’s receiving. i, personally, am not a hardcore eddie fan. i do love the character and love joseph, i just wanted to say something on behalf of that particular side of the fandom. an example is the lab rats fandom. yes, it’s an underrated show, but i love the fandom. the vast majority loves chase. i am one of the hardcore chase lovers. he’s my comfort character and he’s my fictional crush. no one attacks us because we’re obsessed with chase, so we shouldn’t attack eddie stan’s either. anyway i hope no one is offended by this because that’s not my intention and take care loves :)

Overlooked(Lab Rats One-Shot)
Douglas hadn’t planned on coming out the Academy this soon, but he had heard about something with the kid. Douglas had a soft spot for Leo, even if he wouldn’t usually admit it out loud.
Douglas has searched the whole of the side of the Academy and no Leo. Next, he starts looking outside. Douglas ends up finding Leo sitting by himself on a beach outside with his arms and legs close to his chest. Leo is staring off at the horizon.
“I thought I’d find out here kid,” Douglas says. Douglas sits down next to Leo.
“It’s not like I was hiding.” Leo comments.
“I heard about the whole nearly sinking island fiasco. I came to see if you were alright.”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Don’t sound fine.”
“Look Douglas, it doesn’t matter. I am still stuck as a student…”
“Kid, why does it bother you so much? I get the whole wounded ego thing… this is different isn’t it?”
“Douglas, I’m not exactly the strongest guy here or even smartest one. I am just me… and clearly that’s not enough…” Leo cuts himself off leaving his thought unfinished.
“So, this isn’t about status either.”
“All I’ve ever wanted is to be seen and treated as an equal in my own family. Turning me into a student rather a mentor like the rest of them just shows how they really see me… Leo, their barely bionic little brother…”
“Even Adam got to be mentor and if I had to guess Douglas will too,” Leo thought. Leo wouldn’t hold against him. It just wasn’t fair that he only member of the family stuck as a student.
“Leo, I don’t see you that way… and I get being overlooked. Donnie was always the golden boy when we were growing up…”
“What did you do about it? The whole being overlooked thing, I mean.”
“Well, it sort of helped lead me into my evil days. Not exactly advice I’d recommend.”
Leo laughs. “Do you think that they’ll ever see me as something more than this?”
“I can’t say for certain… but hey, you and me can still train! I can help you work your way up Donnie’s ranks faster!”
“Thanks Douglas.”
“You’re welcome.”
Douglas a firm hand on Leo shoulder and the kid smiles in return.
***
Douglas was planing to just head back to house, but something in him couldn’t leave this alone. He knows the kid won’t always say what’s really bothering him… and his brother or anyone else won’t bother to ask Leo what’s really wrong. Darn this kid.
Douglas sees his brother and walks up. Douglas is mad.
“You know, Donnie, it wouldn’t kill you to consider the kid’s feelings ever once and awhile.”
“What on earth are you talking about Douglas?”
“I’m talking about Leo.”
“Leo? This is about Leo.”
“Yeah it is. Look, I get that I’m not his dad, but you are.” Donald starts to up his hands as if to say ‘no I’m not’. Douglas takes a finger and points at his brother. “Yeah, ya are, Donnie! He’s the only one in this whole family that’s not a mentor. Didn’t you think for one second that maybe making him a student would upset him?”
“This is a pattern for Leo. He doesn’t get where he wants to go fast enough and he throws a fit. Leo is old enough now to not need to placated to. Douglas, he still has a lot to learn about his bionics and being a hero.”
“I’m not arguing that kid has a lot to learn, but the kid shouldn’t have to be just a student.”
“He is still member of this family. And, Douglas, I’m not changing my mind just to satisfy Leo’s ego.”
“Yeah, yeah...” Douglas waves his hands in a dismissive way and starts to walk away, “I figured as much. You’ve always been stubborn.” Douglas mutters that last part.
At least Douglas can’t say he didn’t try to help the kid out by talking to his so-called step father. Douglas wonders that when he gets to house that maybe he should tell Tasha. That woman is a force nature, especially when it comes to her kids. Douglas quickly decides that’s not a good idea. If Leo wanted his mother involved, then he would have already told her.
Douglas later decided to not take on official mentor status at the academy. Douglas knew that wasn’t much, but at least the kid wouldn’t have to watch one more member of the family be a mentor.
A few months down the line when the kid formed his own team, Douglas couldn’t say he was shocked. He couldn’t even say he shocked over the fact that the president didn’t include in the kid the award that the team was getting. Douglas was shocked when he heard about the accident with Taylor. He was even more surprised when Leo quit the team and academy.
***
Donald about a day after Leo led the academy went and found Douglas. Donald’s mind keeps going back to that conversation he had with Douglas awhile back. He has to know.
“Douglas, I need to talk to you.”
“That’s a little ominous, but okay.”
“Remember when you talked me about Leo wanting to be a mentor. Was Leo feeling like how he was feeling when he made his own team?”
“Why else do you think I talked to you about it, Donald?! It’s not like I’m all touch-ie feel-y.”
“I’m not a mind-reader.”
“He’s your son.”
“Then why didn’t he tell me how he was feeling rather suppose I’d know? What he is?! A girl?”
“He was raised by his mother. Or maybe he did say something and you just weren’t listening.”
Donald sigh. He doesn’t pay the best attention to his kids. He gets so wrapped up in work… “I really mess this one up, didn’t I?”
“Can’t argue with that…”
***
“Leo, honey,” Tasha had been trying to get Leo out his room since he came home a few days ago. It hasn’t worked. “You can’t stay cooped up in your room forever. At very least come out and eat something.”
Leo sighs. He knows she’s right… mom usually right. Not that Leo would tell her that. Leo gets off his bed, realizes it’s past noon, and he’s still in his PJs. He goes the closet grabs the first clean shirt and over shirt. Then Leo grabs a pair jeans off the floor along with his shoes and socks.
Leo doesn’t look the best once he finally dressed, but he is presentable and not still in PJs. Leo exits his room where his mom is waiting just outside. She holds her arms wide open and Leo melts in the embrace.
After a few minutes, Tasha guides her son to kitchen where she had a sandwich already made for him. Leo eats in silence and Tasha lets him.
“Leo, I think it might a good if you go back to school,” Tasha says after Leo finishes.
“Back to Mission Creek High? Without Adam, Bree, and Chase?”
“It’s not Perry is there anymore and school will help you wake up on a more normal sleep schedule. Don’t think I don’t know you were just getting out bed when you came out.”
“Mom, it’s just going to be weird without them there.”
“I know, but it’s happening.”
“So this was one of these where you are not asking if I do to something or not, you telling me.”
“Sorry, honey. This is one I am asking, maybe reconsider counseling. It could do you some good. Counseling is just someone who listens to you that’s not me. For my sake please, think about trying counseling.”
“Let’s say I do go. If I don’t like it after going two or three times, I won’t have to go back.”
“I think that would be reasonable, if you went in with a open mind.”
“Then I think, yeah, I’m willing to try.”
Tasha nods. This wasn’t much but, it was first step in helping her son get some much needed healing.
***
About a week in, Douglas finds the kid sitting in the living room alone without the tv or his phone on. Douglas sits down next to the kid.
“Douglas, I don’t need another talk.”
“Kid, I wasn’t going to get to go back to the island or anything. I just wanted to see if you are okay.”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Kid.” Douglas looks at Leo unconvinced.
“What do you want me say?! That’s I’m not okay. That I hurt my friend. That I hurt her permanently. That I really royally Leo-ed this one up.”
“Kid… I know that things aren’t great… but you can’t hide from everything.”
“I’m not hiding. I won’t let anyone else get hurt because of me.”
Douglas nods. “At the very least, don’t just sit here and do nothing. Let’s watch a show or play a game.”
The kid smiles. Douglas is pleased with himself. It’s good to see the kid smiling again.
***
After a day or so, Douglas wonders if there is way to help Taylor get around better. Chase, Donnie, and himself have already tried to fully restore her sight with no luck. Douglas decides he will try and come up with a way that will help move around the world close to as she did before.
Douglas has always felt partly responsible for Krane’s solders. He gave Krane the secret to bionics and he used it to create an army. Douglas felt he had a duty to try and help these former solders the best he could. Even if Taylor, formerly S-1, did hurt him. Granted, she didn’t couldn’t help what she was doing. None of them could.
Douglas hoped that maybe if he could help Taylor that maybe it could help the kid heal from this. The kid was so guilty ridden by what happened. He hoped that maybe seeing Taylor not too badly effected might help… it might also make things worse. Either way, Douglas is still going to help Taylor.
***
At the Academy, Adam has started carting around a cardboard cutout of the kid. That was worrying. Douglas is alone with Adam in mentor bedroom and Adam has the cardboard cutout watching a show with him on a computer. This keeps getting worse.
“Adam, are you planning on bringing that to the ceremony?”
“Of course I am!”
“You know it’s a cardboard cutout—”
“Of Leo. Which is why I have to bring it! That way Leo will still be up there with us… like we should have planned from the start, then maybe the real Leo would still be here. Besides, I have tux picked out cardboard Leo and everything! I can’t let it go to waste.”
Douglas nods and finally sort of understands what Adam is doing. It is weird, but also sweet. This would be something to explain at the award ceremony… and it would fun to watch everyone be weirded out by it. So, he’ll just leave Adam alone on this.
***
At award ceremony that Leo got to be apart and get the actual award, Douglas can’t help but feel little bit of pride and joy for the kid.
Leo pulls Douglas aside after the ceremony, “hey Douglas, thanks.”
“For what?”
“I don’t know really… just everything and nothing…”
“Think nothing of it, Leo.”
***
After ceremony back at the house, Douglas finds his brother sitting in the lab.
“So, proud of the kid?”
“Yeah… I am. I really should had more faith in him.”
“Yeah, you should have, but you can’t change the past, Donnie.”
“There is something I think I do need to change and that’s Leo becoming a mentor.”
***
The next morning, Donald announced Leo becoming a mentor and everything was good. Leo finally was a equal with his family and that’s all Leo ever really wanted.
Authors’ Note: this is just me adding a bunch scenes into Lab Rats that I think could have been there. Like Douglas checking up on Leo after the first day on the Island, Donald feeling guilt about Leo leaving, etc. All with the running theme of Leo Dooley and Douglas. It’s not the most cohesive in terms of theming, but I think it works well enough. Plus I always wanted to see more of Douglas and Leo on the Island. They don’t interact as much once the cast was on the island. Also, it didn’t feel right that in On the Edge, Leo-focused special, Tasha didn’t appear. She was only mentioned. So I wrote a scene in cause, Tasha needs all love. Plus, I just don’t see Tasha taking interest in Leo’s mental health considering how concerned she is about everything else considering Leo.

Potential Character for Mrs. Kelsey and Tumblr 5/17/2023:
Dr. Natalie Chambers, Mad Scientist-Turned-Sewer Samurai:
Appearance (currently): (See above. Also, NO, I do not have a picture of her as a human).
What she might be in: “Big Apple Sewer Samurai”.
Background:
Once a rising star among the scientists of Toshigawa Technologies (or “T-Tech”), Dr. Chambers’ life turned upside down during the Fall of T-Tech. She and her lab partner were experimenting with rodents, and, at some point, her lab partner got jealous of the attention Dr. Chambers was getting, so he began putting things into the rats, to throw off the results.
One of these things was a strange substance appropriately referred to as “The Goo”. During the Fall of T-Tech, Dr. Chambers was frantically getting her test subjects out of the lab, when one of them escaped. Desperate to re-capture the rat in question, Dr. Chambers accidentally wound up bitten by the creature. Shortly after leaving, Dr. Chambers became dizzy, and ultimately collapsed in an alley.
When she awoke, she found herself with increased senses, and realized a foreign limb of some sort had sprouted from her rear. Turns out, she had somehow turned into an anthropomorphic rat! Understandably alarmed, she ultimately fled into the sewers, where she encountered a being similar to her: A fellow calling himself “The Rat King”, who seemed to have a major crush on her.
With the King’s help, she wound up creating a lab in the sewers, where she works to try and figure out a way to return to normal. In the meantime, she has helped out a number of “Sewer Samurai” on various matters, and has been constructing various Weird Science gadgets out of junk she finds lying around. Also, she’s pretty upset that her old lab partner has found success and fame… using HER WORK! She also records her notes and findings and a journal of sorts on her current state.
How she is like me:
We both can get pretty upset on certain matters (like having to deal with frustrating people, and having to keep calm during frustrating times… I find music helps soothe me during such times, as does going somewhere else to cool off), are nigh-obsessed with our interests, and are adjusting to a new world (in my case, the world beyond my fan fictions).
Kelsey Notes:
She was sabotaged by her lab partner- might be named Lester
She got bit trying to save things from the rats that Lester sabotaged
The Rat King was born a rat and mutated into a human form.  He found a burger king hat and decided to “go with it”
He can control some of the rats within in his kingdom, hence the rat king
She is unable to change her form so she flees to the sewers where she will stay until she can find a way to transform back into a human
Ultimately the direction her story goes will depend on her ability to find something that transforms her back to human
How will she feel if she finds something that can only transform her back once?
Will she find some acceptance with her “unplanned” transformation to where she would want to be able to go back and forth between human and rat?
We can make many transformations in our lives- for example we can lose weight and transform our bodies, but how long will we be able to sustain the healthy lifestyle that helped us transform in the first place?
