i've said this before but lapis and peridot are such queerplatonic partners to me

and i'm kinda surprised to see that it was never a more popular headcanon

but then again the show's fandom reached its heyday pretty close to the peak "ace discourse" era, so i wonder if people were too shy to make headcanons like that back then

like. at the time the show was airing, i myself as a young aroace was still having trouble accepting my own identity and wasn't yet ready to start headcanoning ships as qprs. in fact i didn't start shipping those two queerplatonically until i was an adult looking back at the show in nostalgia

Garnet is taken down early in the war, Sapphire is in the mirror, that was left in the top of the sea spire, Ruby got shattered and is part of the experiments in Prime Kindergarten

Pearl was bubbled by Rose

Bismuth decided not to bring up the Breaking Point to Rose, so she survives and is one of the gems Rose saved at the end

The other gem is Lapis, who was a CG

Peridot got stranded on earth early on and is now the resident fusion with Lapis

Amethyst is Amethyst, no notes for best CG

Lapidot was actually the reason I even made a tumblr and ao3 acct in the first place. My first officially posted fic was for lapidot. And the art was back in my old art blog that got hacked and deleted, but geeeeeze back then my art was just pencil scribbles on lined intermediate paper in photos taken from my shoddy phone camera. Can't believe I had as much followers as I already did back then.

My username, Barb Laz/Barbara Lazuli across all socials is even a Lapis reference. The Barb part was from the "Bob" joke

I personally feel like the peak of the Steven Universe fandom was around season 3 when everyone, no matter the context or plot of the fic, would go out of their way to get Peridot to say "what's a chicken?". It was chronic, and not even that funny. But that wasn't going to stop us from implementing it into our gem-human 136 part wattpad Lapidot college Au's feat. abusive ex gf Jasper that randomly stopped being updated in the midst of one of its 50 dramatic plottwists.

Propaganda for Lapidot:

They are roommates that are v close, Peridot is canon aroace and they do break up at one point but they're fine now

Peridot was confirmed to be AroAce, and I personally view Lapis as AroAce as well (specifically Greyromantic and Asexual). A lot of the fandom ships them romantically because they're quite close in the show, literally living together and showing deep care for each other. Peridot even becomes depressed at one point when Lapis ran away out of fear of the diamonds returning. But they're never actually shown to be romantic. And (as I mentioned), Peridot was confirmed to be AroAce. Aromantic people can 100% be in a romantic relationship if they want to, but Peridot doesn't seem like someone interested in actually being in a romantic relationship, she's more interested in observing romantic relationships (one of her special interests is a tv show called Camp Pining Hearts, and she is very into shipping characters in that show). Their relationship just seems much more like a qpr to me!

Propaganda for The Doctor and Jack:

Jack's feelings are canonically romantic and the Doctor's are canonically not. To me, they are so special.
