[A/N]: Wanted to try a bit of a different format for the summary, hope it makes sense.
Enjoy!
Harsh winds whipped past the shape of the land, bending around every mountain and down every ravine and valley like ribbon. Shivering harshly and clutching onto her heavy coat, Lara sighed, planting herself in front of the campfire she had set up. As the flames crackled to life and began to grow, she scooted closer, holding her hands out towards the blazing heat in an attempt to warm them. She huffed out hot air into her cupped palms before rubbing them together and shifting to hold them out again.
She repeated this motion a few more times before wriggling her fingers around a bit. Once she was sure they were warmed up enough, she slipped her journal out from her traveler’s pack and took her pen out. She flipped over to the next blank page, beginning to jot things down with stiff hands. It started with her summarizing all that had happened during the current expedition up until that point, but quickly shifted to her feelings of homesickness. It wasn’t the manor or her private apartment she was missing, however. She was missing the woman waiting for her back home.
A small smile of content formed on her lips at the mere thought of her.
“God, [Y/N], I wish you were…”
She shook her head as a chill ran down her spine, as if she was being reminded of the brutal conditions she was in. With a small struggle, she scribbled out the ending of the sentence before starting a new one.
“No, I wish I was there with you. I didn’t realize how much I’d miss you. Especially how warm you are. It’s freezing out here, although I’m not sure what I was expecting. Even when we stayed by the hot springs for a bit, my hands were too frozen to do anything. Writing this right now is extremely difficult because we’re headed toward the peak of a mountain where the snow is really dense. The altitude levels are getting high, and it’s making some of the crew sick, so we had to set up camp in the meantime. Aside from Jonah, the crew here doesn’t really care for all of this. They’re either doing it for the media exposure or for the money. The majority of them have made it clear that they aren’t doing it for the sake of discovery. I do kind of wish you were here in all honesty. Jonah is interested in what we’re looking for, but it always takes some convincing with him. With you, you’re always on board immediately. And, according to the others, you share the same level of enthusiasm as me. I guess I never really noticed it.
“Which is honestly a bit of a surprise. I know I can get a bit…aggressive about these things, or obsessive. People tell me I start getting picky about things once I realize they don’t have the same interests and intentions as me. And Sam wonders why I don’t like hanging out with other people.”
She laughed softly to herself, skimming over her words before she continued writing.
“Except you, of course. I wish I could bring you along with me to these expeditions, but I’m just…worried Trinity is going to get to you somehow, and aside from Jonah, you’re the only one I have left. If they got ahold of you, I don’t know what I’d do with myself. I’ve lost too many people already. I can’t lose you too.”
A small pause. She wasn’t sure what to do with herself during these trips anymore. Before she had met [Y/N], she had gotten used to sleeping alone and spending the majority of her time alone. She could go on journeys without worrying about returning home to someone. She didn’t want to die, that wasn’t what she was thinking of. She just didn’t feel guilty about trips taking longer than she initially planned. Deep down, though, she knew [Y/N] understood. Each time she’d make it home to her girlfriend, she was always greeted with relief and excitement rather than annoyance and resentment.
During the nights where she was alone on the expeditions, she could eventually get herself to fall asleep for short periods of time, pretending she was back home in bed with her girlfriend, cuddled up together under the blankets and sleeping in.
Another thing she had to readjust to was doing things solo. The only thing she tended to do on her own at the manor anymore was paperwork. [Y/N] would do everything with her there: researching, reading, cleaning, taking trips to different cities, and so on and so forth. She had grown so accustomed to that to where she found herself itching to talk to someone or move around at the campsites when she used to just sit there and think to herself.
She genuinely enjoyed the idea of having someone to come home to every time, but it still caused guilt when anything went wrong. There was a near-constant worry that her job was straining the relationship, regardless of what [Y/N] told her.
She had never been in a relationship before, so she really had no idea what to expect. It was stressful trying to learn how to open up to someone, but once she realized she could fully trust [Y/N], she found it much easier to start talking about her past.
Another sigh slipped past her lips, her gaze dropping down to the page of her journal again.
“I can’t wait to get home to you again. And honestly, I never thought I’d be able to say that. With how often I’m traveling, I figured I wouldn’t find someone who was willing to put up with my constant researching and preparing. I suppose I could take you on easier trips where I know Trinity won’t be. I could teach you how to go rock climbing and the basics of how to survive out in the wilderness.”
A sense of fondness washed over her, remembering how Roth would take her backpacking and traveling to random places so she could learn all of his tricks.
“If Roth were still here, I bet I could’ve convinced him to let you come with us to one of our training expeditions. He loved teaching all about journeying. He probably would’ve talked your ear off the way he did with me.”
Once more, a soft laugh escaped her.
“I’d honestly give anything to hear him lecture me about trusting my instinct again. You would’ve loved him. He was a good man.”
She studied her entry, repeatedly skimming over Roth’s name scribbled out in her shaky handwriting.
“I wish you could’ve met him.”
She frowned at the memory of what happened in Yamatai, guilt beginning to bubble up to the surface again. She sighed, trying to shift her focus to something else.
“I can’t wait to get back home to you. I miss you. Hopefully I’ll be able to see you sooner rather than later. I already want to come back just so I can be with you again. I love you.”
Gently, she shut her journal and tucked it away again, dropping her pen in on top of it before zipping the bag shut. Once she placed the bag to her side, she shifted to turn back to the fire, which had grown to a decent size. Her unfocused gaze watched the flames in front of her dance wildly to the bitterly cold gusts of wind. Soon, as she waited for Jonah to call her over, her mind wandered off, her body shivering, aching, and craving to be in her warm, plush bed by [Y/N]’s side again.
The expedition finally came to an end. Unfortunately, it had taken an extra three days thanks to Trinity’s operation disrupting everything. Lara was returning home with another artifact, one which she planned to donate to a local museum instead of adding to her personal collection. She asked Jonah to drop the artifact off for her, her expression alone telling him all he needed to know. He agreed, knowing she just wanted to get home to [Y/N] again and rest. Once the plane landed and they disembarked with their luggage, Lara instantly found her car still parked in a private garage she had paid for ahead of time.
She hopped in instantly after tucking her small amount of luggage into the trunk, started the engine, and sped off toward her home. The majority of the drive there, she reflected on what had happened during the expedition. Although she had been in a warm environment for hours on the way back, she still felt chilled to the bone after swimming in glacial waters for hours on end. All she craved was to get home and warm all the way up so she could sleep comfortably, even though she knew the moment the numbness subsided, her joints would ache even more.
Once she finally arrived, she parked her car in her usual spot and headed inside, completely forgetting about the bags in the trunk. Her body felt like it would collapse any minute, so she was desperately trying to get inside and find [Y/N].
With a great deal of effort, straining the aching muscles in her arms and back, she shoved the main door open leading into the front parlor. Before any of the servants could lead her somewhere to get her injuries treated or get changed into warmer clothes, Lara made a beeline to the stairs leading up to the second floor of the main building. She wobbled down the hall to her bedroom door, weakly pushing it open with a small grunt of pain. She didn’t spot [Y/N] in the bedroom right away, so she checked the bathroom attached to it.
She wasn’t there either. Odd.
With a groan, she forced herself to trudge back out of the room and down the hall, planning to check the library next. And if she wasn’t there, she’d search the main study. Before she could make it to the doorway leading to the library, [Y/N] stepped out carrying a couple of books. When she spotted Lara, her face lit up, excitedly placing the books aside on a nearby console table and rushing over to the brunette. At the sight of [Y/N] heading her direction, a small surge of energy bolted through Lara’s senses. She beamed over at her and opened her arms, sighing in relief when the smaller woman leaned heavily into her embrace.
“Lara, you’re back! How was the trip? Find anything good?”
Lara grinned wider at her enthusiasm–a breath of fresh air to have someone show genuine interest in her own passion. “Yeah, we found an old artifact, but I told Jonah to just go donate it to the local museum. I don’t have much space left on the shelves in my study, and I don’t want to clutter our room with them.” [Y/N] chuckled at her words, a small nod as her response as they remained in their embrace a moment longer.
At length, much to Lara’s dismay, [Y/N] leaned back. One hand dropped down to gently take hold of the brunette’s, and the other lifted to cup her cheek. At the feeling of warmth against her face, Lara leaned into the touch, her eyes shutting as she sighed. “C’mon,” [Y/N] started softly with a warm smile, “let’s get you patched up and changed. Then you can get some sleep.” Before she could try to refute, Lara yawned and nodded, wearily following the smaller woman’s lead as she carefully tugged her toward the bedroom again.
Once in there, she sat Lara down on the bed, retrieved the First Aid kit from the medical cabinet in the bathroom, and joined her on the mattress, which the brunette seemed to immediately sink into. She pulled out a damp rag she had also grabbed and began to dab cautiously at the scratches and cuts littered across Lara’s skin. When she began to apply the antiseptic, she earned a few hisses of pain, though they quickly died down with each passing second. All the while, Lara’s eyelids were growing heavier. She did her best to bite back her yawns, though most of them still snuck through.
After cleaning all of the visible marks, [Y/N] stitched up what she needed to, and applied bandages to what was left. She quickly packed the kit back up and stored it in the bathroom once more. Then, she helped Lara head into the bathroom and get undressed, helping her step into the bath when the warm water filled up enough. Once the brunette was situated and comfortable, [Y/N] took her hair down for her and began to rinse and lather it with the shampoo she had set up beforehand. Once her hair was clean, she then washed Lara’s back, shoulders, and mostly everything but her stomach, legs, and mostly whatever was underneath the water, which she let the Croft do on her own.
By the time Lara was clean and wrapped up in a towel after stepping out of the tub, [Y/N] left and came back in carrying a pair of clothes that had just been pulled out from the dryer. She gave the brunette a bit of privacy to get dressed. Lara hummed contentedly at the warm, soft fabric brushing across her skin: a pair of black fleece pants with a slightly oversized gray t-shirt.
She stood after tugging her clothes on. After folding the towel back up enough to hang on the rack on the wall, she flipped the lightswitch off and left the bathroom, finding [Y/N] standing by the bed with a tray in her hands. Curiously, Lara walked over and sat down at the foot of the bed with an eyebrow raised. Before she could question what it was, [Y/N] moved to hand the tray to her, revealing her favorite dish warmed up and placed nicely on a plate.
At the sight of it, she blinked, and soon looked back up at her girlfriend, who had moved to her own side of the bed. “Go ahead and eat. I wanted you to have something in your stomach so it doesn’t growl and wake you up like last time.”
With a pleased grin, Lara nodded and shifted up to her spot in bed to prop herself up against the headboard. She was quick to pick up her fork and dig into the dish, clearly grateful to have something prepared for her instead of needing to fix something for herself the way she had done the past few days in the wilderness. It saved her a lot of time and energy, all of which she could spend on recovering from the trip. Within minutes, the plate was clean and her cup was empty. She moved to get up and bring it to the kitchen downstairs, but [Y/N] was quick to stop her and take it from her hands. “Hey, no, go ahead and stay here, alright? I really just want you to relax for a while.”
Even if Lara had planned on refusing the help, it would’ve been no use, as [Y/N] was already by the door by the time she finished speaking. She quickly slipped out of the room, leaving Lara there to wait. She hadn’t even had a chance to nod. She sighed, shuffling downward to bundle up underneath the thick blankets layering her mattress and tugging them partially over her head. The moment her head made contact with her pillow, she groaned in relief, the plush surface welcoming her and pulling her into a partial slumber already.
She fought to stay awake a little longer, however, wanting to be cuddled up against [Y/N] as she slept so she could hear her heartbeat. Ever since the two had started sharing the bed, that’s how Lara fell asleep. It’s why going on long expeditions was so difficult sometimes–she had no heartbeat to listen to, no breathing she could hear but her own, and no warmth to lean into when she got a chill or had a strange dream that kept her eyes pried open in alarmed confusion. Another yawn pushed past her lips, her eyes slowly fluttering shut. Just as she was close to being lulled into sleep, the bedroom door creaked open again. [Y/N] stepped inside and turned the lights off, then headed over to the windows and closed all the heavy curtains, leaving a very dull light in the room.
She then crawled into her side of the bed, though she was quickly met with Lara scooting over and pressing her head against her chest, planting her ear directly over the girl’s sternum to hear the steady thumping of her heartbeat resting safely behind her ribs. A sigh of relief made its way from Lara. She wriggled over a bit, nuzzled her face further into the blankets, and finally settled for a position. With a small smile, [Y/N] rolled over just enough to wrap both of her arms around the brunette’s torso. She pulled her closer as softly as she could.
“Did you wanna talk about the trip?” She whispered softly. A bit of a delay, but Lara answered with a small shake of her head. “No,” she murmured almost inaudibly. “Maybe tomorrow.” [Y/N] nodded in response. She slid one of her arms over a bit, earning a groan of disapproval, though it was quickly replaced by an even fainter groan of pleasure once her fingernails began to gently rake through Lara’s brunette locks. [Y/N] repeated this motion for a while before changing to let her nails scratch soothingly at the sore muscles of the taller woman’s back. “Mmm, what about you?” Lara finally managed to slur out after a few minutes.
[Y/N] hummed, confused. “What about me?” She questioned quietly. Again, there was a pause before she got a response. “What about your day? Tell me…about your day.”
“Oh. Well, it wasn’t very eventful, to be honest. I just helped some of the maids and then read a few books. That’s why I was leaving the library when you made it in.”
“Mmh.”
Lara groaned and shuffled even closer. “I missed you so much,” she whispered. [Y/N] beamed down at her, pure adoration in her eyes. “I missed you too.” She pressed a kiss to the brunette’s forehead, to which Lara responded by scrunching up her nose and leaning her head forward, wordlessly asking for another one. The smaller woman complied after letting a gentle giggle slip in between breaths and pressed a longer kiss to Lara’s head, earning a small huff of satisfaction.
For a while longer, [Y/N] continued to talk about whatever came to mind. Lara wasn’t entirely listening, she just wanted to hear her voice, but [Y/N] already knew that. She didn’t mind. She could talk about seeing a bird on the window sill, and Lara would still find it calming solely because she could hear her speaking. She could hear the low rumbling and vibrations in her chest with every word spoken, and on top of the sound of her heartbeat, it was like the ultimate white noise for Lara.
She wasn’t entirely sure why it brought her so much comfort, but she certainly wasn’t complaining. It helped her fall asleep and stay asleep, which is something she struggled with for the longest time. Being able to get a proper night’s rest felt so refreshing.
Especially after having to be on high alert and sleep lightly for weeks on end during most of her journeys.
After a while, [Y/N] ran out of things to talk about. However, knowing that hearing her make noise was what helped Lara fall asleep, she opted to sing softly instead. An hour or so must’ve passed before Lara’s breathing deepened and slowed, evening out as her body signaled she was fully asleep. After finishing the song she had been practically humming at that point, [Y/N] stopped singing. When she fell silent, her own eyes beginning to droop from fatigue, Lara tugged her closer, unconsciously trying to find the source of the noise again. She settled after a moment when her hearing focused in on her heartbeat once more.
She mumbled something under her breath, though the blankets muffled most of it. The other half of the incoherent speech was caused by her lack of conscience. [Y/N] didn’t mind it though. Finally being able to hold Lara safely in her arms again after two and a half weeks was all she had been wanting. She glanced down at her, smiling tiredly and pressing a gentle kiss to her head again before yawning and closing her eyes.
Soon enough, she fell into a deep slumber as well.
The following morning, the sun crept in through the blinds, alerting everyone of its wake. Bright golden beams trailed their way into the bedroom, sneaking up the covers and making Lara suddenly aware of her surroundings again. She grumbled, calloused fingertips grasping at the hem of the comforter that had slipped from over her head and tugging upward, desperately trying to block out the warmth that stirred her awake. It had been years–until she met [Y/N], anyway–since she had been able to sleep in peacefully without the overwhelming worry of needing to constantly accomplish something. She wanted to stay asleep at least long enough to finish her dream.
For a moment, she smirked to herself, noticing just how soft she had gotten once her relationship had been established with the other woman. Had they never met, nor had they gotten as close as they did, she’d likely still be awake at this hour, buried away in her personal study with stacks of books and loose files strewn about.
With a sense of bitter hesitation, one in which she debated falling back into the dream she had been having just a moment prior–which thankfully wasn’t another nightmare keeping her awake–she let her weary eyes flutter open. A small shove downward let the covers fall free from over her head again, begrudgingly allowing the sunlight to caress her features in a more willing manner. A sigh of relief slipped past her lips once she was able to let her eyes adjust to the blazing beams of light dancing around with each small movement.
After a moment of gaining her bearings, she yawned, drowsily rubbing the exhaustion from her eyes as she shifted over to find [Y/N] still resting at her side. The corners of her lips perked up into a small smile of contentment at the sight. She hummed, shuffled up to let her head rest even in front of [Y/N]’s, and gazed over at her.
The light that had disturbed Lara of her rest now brought her a sense of peace. The warm glow of the amber streaks lighting up the room seemed to embrace every little mark across [Y/N]’s skin, highlighting each scar and stray freckle. Never before had she seemed so at ease in her slumber–or maybe Lara had been too focused on holding her close to have noticed. She noticed it now, though.
And she intended to savor every minute of it.
Moments passed, and her hands were itching to feel the softness of the woman’s skin. With a slight ounce of uncertainty, worried she might stir her awake, she finally lifted her hand from the spot on the mattress next to her and drove it up to let the backs of her fingers graze over [Y/N]’s cheek, huffing out a small sigh at the warmth as though she hadn’t been pressed tightly against her mere moments before.
Her fingers trailed up to tuck a few loose strands of hair behind the sleeping woman’s ear, slowly and silently shuffling forward to press a featherlike kiss to her forehead. At the feeling of soft lips and touches against her skin, [Y/N] began to wake, her brows furrowing together momentarily in thought, as if she were stuck between her dreams and lucidity. Her features softened just as quickly as they tightened, followed by her eyes flitting open and instantaneously focusing on the smitten gaze in front of her. She hummed, grinning and letting her hand slide up to gently take hold of Lara’s. With a small squeeze to her lax hand, [Y/N] turned her head to press an equally soft kiss to her palm.
“Morning,” she murmured against her skin, letting her focus flicker back toward the deep brown eyes now somehow filled with even more love than before.
“Morning,” came her faint reply.
“Are you feeling better now that you’ve slept?” Lara grinned, nodding almost unnoticeably. She carefully slipped her hand from [Y/N]’s, then letting it trail down to the smaller woman’s hip. Once moving a bit closer, as well as shuffling back down further into the comforter, she wrapped both arms around [Y/N]’s waist, tugging her closer and letting her head fall against her chest. Once [Y/N]’s chin moved to rest atop the brunette’s head, Lara sighed, her eyes fluttering shut once more. “Yes, but if I’m being completely honest, my entire body is aching right now. So much happened before I got back.”
She chuckled, wincing to herself at the sudden jolt of pain that erupted from the nerves in the skin taut against her stomach. “I don’t know if I can physically get up yet. Or if I'll be able to at all today.”
A playful snicker sounded above her, prompting her to lift her head and look up at [Y/N]. “Are you sure that’s why? Or do you just want to stay in bed and cuddle like this for the day?” Lara rolled her eyes with a smirk of her own. “I’m telling you: every single muscle in my body is painfully sore. I could get up if I absolutely needed to, but I don’t, so I’d really just prefer to stay here.”
With a moment in between the playful banter, Lara dropped her head back against [Y/N]’s chest. She waited, pondering what she wanted to say as her nails gently scratched at the soft fabric of the shirt she leaned against, sighing silently at the feeling of the motion being reciprocated in a far more soothing way. As she focused on [Y/N] tracing random shapes and words against her scarred skin, subconsciously wondering if she could make out anything specific if she focused, she closed her eyes.
“But even if I somehow wasn’t sore like I am now, I’d absolutely want to stay like this for the day. I missed you,” although her voice had already started off gentle, her tone only seemed to drift further into silence. Whether it stemmed from sheepishness or fatigue, [Y/N] didn’t know. She didn’t mind it, however, and instead pulled her closer. “I missed you too. So very much.”
She paused, one of her hands stroking the brunette strands sprawled out on the mattress behind Lara as her brow creased in thought. “I do worry about you though,” she admitted after what felt like hours, not sure if Lara was still even awake at the moment or if she had heard her. She had, however, and was quick to gaze back up at her, partially hidden way beneath the comforter. Her eyes, which had just been staring at her with a mix of blissful fatigue and love, were now a concoction of bleary concern and confusion. “Why?”
“Because sometimes I worry that something is going to happen to you while you’re away, and I’m never going to know. I mean, I know you won’t go down without a fight, but I’m still terrified that there will be a day where I see you alive for the last time. That thought alone plagues my mind every single time you leave, and it just…scares me?” She scoffed. “No, it’s so much more than just feeling scared. I’m terrified beyond belief that a thought like that could somehow become a reality.”
She hadn’t realized she had begun rambling until Lara shifted up to be eye-level with her again, a far more serious expression taking over. With her features creased with concern, Lara cupped [Y/N]’s face, the pads of her thumbs stroking away the tears that she hadn’t even realized had fallen. When had she started crying?
“I promise you I’m never going to let that happen, alright? There’ve been so many times I shouldn’t have been able to survive, but I did. Like you said: I won’t go down without a fight. And now that I have you here, I have all the more reason to fight to stay alive. I couldn’t bear the thought of never coming home to you. Just…don’t ever worry about me not coming home, okay? One way or another, I’ll find a way to get back to you.”
Her tone softened with every passing word, her heart and mind filling with relief upon seeing a gentle smile grace [Y/N]’s lips. She returned her grin and leaned forward to rest their foreheads together. “Even if it means I have to admit to Jonah that I’m wrong,” she added with a fake annoyance and a small roll of her eyes. [Y/N] couldn’t help but chuckle at her words, allowing Lara to finally let out a small sigh of solace.
“I wouldn’t trade my time with you for anything,” she reassured, trading roles and pulling [Y/N] into her chest instead. “Not for an artifact, not for a trip to some uncharted land, not for my studies, not for anything. I know I may not be the best at showing it, but I truly love you, [Y/N]. I promise you that I’ll always find my way back to you.”
At her reassurance, [Y/N] nuzzled closer to focus in on her heartbeat, unable to bite back the wide smile that stretched across her lips. “I love you too,” she whispered.
Her words were true, she just wished she could find a way to prove it to her every day. Regardless of how invested she could get in her studies or research for her next expedition somewhere far away, she wouldn’t trade these moments of serenity for the world. She treasured them far more than any artifact she had discovered, and would do anything to ensure more of those memories could be made. Not even the strongest forces out there would stop her from returning to the one person she could call home, and she vowed, one way or another, to make sure it stayed that way for good.

time spent healing.

lara croft x fem!reader
↳ we don’t have to be strong all the time. sometimes, it’s okay to lean on someone else.
continuation of lara’s journal.
Most of her life has been spent carrying the weight of impossible tasks. Solving ancient mysteries, navigating treacherous terrain, and pushing through pain when others would falter. But with you, she learns to rest. For the first time in years, Lara feels like it’s okay to stop running.
At first, she didn’t know how to show it. Vulnerability wasn’t exactly her strong suit. She’d quietly bring you small comforts after a hard day—an extra blanket when you looked cold, or a warm cup of tea when you seemed overwhelmed. These gestures weren’t grand, but they spoke volumes. Lara had a way of making you feel safe, even when the world around you seemed to be falling apart.
She noticed you were the same with her. You had a knack for recognizing when she needed help, even when she didn’t say a word. The first time you convinced her to sit down and let you patch up a nasty cut on her arm. Though, she had protested. “It’s fine, really,” she said, though the wince on her face betrayed her. But your firm yet gentle hands left no room for argument, and eventually, she relented.
You made her laugh as you worked, teasing her about her stubbornness. “You’re lucky I’m here,” you said with a smile. “You’d run yourself into the ground without someone to remind you to take a break.”
Those moments meant more to her than she could express. In a world where she’d learned to rely only on herself, having someone she could lean on was both terrifying and comforting. She wrote about it in her journal that night—how you made her feel like she wasn’t alone anymore. She underlined those words twice.
Lara had always been fiercely independent, but she’d never felt stronger than when she was with you. You gave her something she didn’t know she needed: a place to heal. And in return, she promised herself she’d protect you, no matter what.
“You’re always taking care of me,” she said one evening, her voice soft as you shared a quiet moment by the fire. “I don’t think I’ve ever thanked you properly.” You looked at her, surprised by the vulnerability in her expression. “You don’t have to thank me, Lara,” you replied gently. “That’s what people do for the ones they care about.”
She smiled, a rare, unguarded smile that made your heart ache. “I’m still going to try,” she said firmly. And you knew she meant it.

Hiii!!!! If you're taking requests, could you write something along the lines of the reader coming home in tears from a really hard day at work and Lara somehow ✨knowing✨ and showing up and comforting them? I love your writing!!!

I wrote this high as fuck and added my own little twist to it, I loveee Lara so bad gang. 😰🤟🏻
You went back to the break room, noticing Lara sliding the sunglasses off her nose, placing it on top of her head, your eyebrows shot up in surprise as she took a few wrapped up food in her hands.
“Lara?” You ask, it’s a nice surprise, finding her here at your work even though you’re exhausted as heck, “Hello, love.” She spoke, taking off her leather jacket and walking closer to you to kiss your blushing warm cheek, her rough hand squeezing at your waist lightly.
“What are you doing here?” You ask, taking a seat on the table as she opened the wrapped up burger she got you, knowing how much you love to eat when you’re upset, or exhausted. “The way you left this morning? Come now, you’re obviously so fucked off:” she starts, opening the can of soda for you also.
“Ah.” You nod, knowing how much Lara knew you and your really confusing moods, you often didn’t like to talk about what bothers you at your job or in general, but Lara just knew— always knew, she reads you like a book on artefacts she’s so fascinated with. “Didn’t think you’d hide that from me did ya?”
Lara sat ahead of you, starting to eat as you truly forgot the food and just admired her, she was so beautiful it was unfair.
“No I didn’t…” you bite your lip as you finally start eating, it was delicious— not having breakfast was the bad idea here, you were already crabby enough as it is.
Lara chuckled and just watched you eat, she really needs to visit you more at your job, not only does she love seeing you; she also loves buying you the junk food you seemed to adore so much, just watch over you and make sure she’s around whenever you needed her, not caring if it made her seem clingy or not; she loves tending to her girl.
“This stuff'll kill ya.” She jokes, taking a bite out of it anyway, her tone lighthearted.
“Lucky me to have you to find my dead body.” You chimed in, her eyes widened as she started giggling, it was so good having her around, a sight for sore eyes; your absolute soulmate who knew you like no one else did, or would bother trying.

Lara Croft x Fem! Reader CW: N/A WC: 1.1k+
"Are you sure we're in the right place, Lara?" I asked.
"I was the one who gave you directions," she sighed.
"That is true, but I didn't expect your house to be this..."
"Big? Huge?"
"Yes," I whispered.
She chuckled, "I get that a lot."
She pulled her arm from around my shoulders and limped towards the gates.
"S-Should you be even walking on that leg?"
"No."
"Then why are you?"
"I don't want to burden you with carrying me."
"I can carry you, Lara. No problem."
"You're banged up, too, Y/N."
"I know I am, but I'm not the one with a sprained ankle."
"I'll walk it off."
"If you walk it off, it'll need more than just a splint."
As soon as the gates were pushed open, I grabbed Lara by her shoulders to turn her to face me.
"What?" she asked.
"Get on my back. I am carrying you to the door."
"It's a bit of a walk from here."
"I don't care. Just as long as you're off that leg, that's all that matters."
Lara sighed, "There's no saying no to this, right?"
"No. I know your charismatic ways, Lara, but let me take care of you for once. Please."
She smiled, "What would I do without you, Y/N?"
"Walk on a sprained ankle."
She laughed and I turned to where my back was facing her. She jumped up and I grabbed underneath her legs. I started to walk towards the door of the mansion after she had closed the gates to it. It wasn't a terrible walk, but I underestimated Lara's body mass. Of course it was mostly muscle, but damn. She sure has a lot of it. Once I reached the door, I set her down and fell to all fours.
"You ok?" Lara asked.
"Yeah," I huffed out. "J-Just give me a minute."
Lara unlocked the door and pushed it open. When I got up, she wrapped her arm around my shoulders and grabbed my other arm, wrapping it around her waist.
"Let's just do it how we did before."
I nodded and I followed her directions as she led me through the house. When I entered her room, I almost fell once more. It was huge. There were a lot of artifacts from ancient places. There were taxidermy animals in every corner and even mounted on the walls. A large bed sat against the far back wall and there was a door to the right.
"What do you need? I can get it for you," I said as I set her on the bed.
"I just need to rest for now," Lara said. "Afterwards, I need to get back out there."
"You're not going out there."
"What do you mean?"
"With a sprained ankle? You're not going anywhere until it is properly looked at and healed."
Lara shook her head, "I can't afford to rest and relax."
"Yes, you can. You need it, Lara," I reached down and grabbed her hand. "Please."
She let out a sigh, "Fine. I wouldn't mind if you drew me a bath."
"Of course," I said and walked towards the door that was behind me.
"Wrong door," she said.
"There's so many damn doors in here!"
"One over there," she pointed to the door that was on the other side of the room.
I walked over there and opened the door. Afterwards, it was smooth sailing from there.
"Do you want extra bubbles?"
"Just a normal amount," Lara responded.
"Extra it is!"
"Y/N! Don't overdo it!"
Once the water was hot and there were a good amount of bubbles, I headed over to Lara and helped her into the bathroom. I stepped out and closed the door to let her have her private time.
"You're not coming back in here?"
"I-I didn't know if you wanted me in there with you."
"I want someone to talk to aside from myself."
I opened the door and almost fell for a second time. Her back was facing me and her hair was out of her ponytail. I could see where every muscle creased and flexed, where her shoulder blades were if she moved her shoulders back enough. Not to mention, the many scars and scratches that were on her back. I stepped towards her and lightly ran a hand over one I distinctly remember. I was the cause of it. It didn't happen too long ago, but it healed to where it left a white jagged line in its wake.
It was also the first time I had run into Lara, starting our friendship. I had stolen a priceless artifact from people who were going to sell it people in the black market. From there, with the money they got, they were going to do illegal trading in the ivory business. When they saw my not so sneaky get away, they were after me. I tried to get rid of them, but they had cornered me. Lara came in to save the day, but while she was fighting the men, one came up behind her and cut along her back with a dagger. After her fight with them, I took her to see a doctor. Afterwards, we had become inseparable.
"Don't blame yourself," Lara said.
"I-I just can't forgive myself."
"It wasn't your fault," she turned over her shoulder. "You did the right thing."
"I didn't want to hear anymore news of the illegal trade."
"You did your best. And so did I. That's all that matters."
I pulled my hand away and sat on the stool that was in the bathroom. I rested my arms on the ledge of the bathtub and rested my head on my arms.
"Look where it brought the both of us," Lara said softly.
"I guess there is an upside to that situation."
"Always has been."
"How did you not get lonely out there?"
"I had other people beside me, but with our line of work, I kept people at arms length. I couldn't get close to them because I was afraid of them losing me or me losing them."
"Have you lost anyone so far?"
"So far, no. I am grateful for it."
"I'm glad I haven't lost you either," I smiled, my heart beat faster against my chest.
"You know, Y/N," Lara inched closer to me, placing a hand on my forearm. "Out of all the people I met, you're by far my favorite."
"Really?" I smiled giddily.
"Yeah," she inched closer. "I told myself to not get close to anyone, no matter what circumstances. When I tried to push you away, you just kept coming back harder and harder. There was a fire in your heart, in your soul that I couldn't understand until recently."
"It was hard to get through to you, but I'm glad I did," I whispered as I leaned closer to where every word grazed her lips.
Her one hand came up and was placed against the back of my head while the other cupped my cheek. She pressed her lips against mine and I happily kissed back. Oh how I waited, how I longed for this moment. I pulled away and pressed my forehead against Lara's.
"Good thing I am taking some R&R," Lara said.
"Yeah."
"Will you spend it with me?"
"Of course, Lara."

My saviour.
Lara Croft x Fem!Reader
Summary: You thought all hope for you was lost, that was until a new prisoner arrived.
Takes place during Rise of the Tomb Raider. (I havent finished the full game yet so no spoilers please and sorry for any mistakes). Kind of the prison escape with Jacob and Lara but now its Reader.
Warnings: Imprisonment, canon violence, death (not reader or Lara's), abduction, blood, wounds, use of Y/N, maybe ooc, swearing, weapons, weapon use.
Word count: 0.9k

Cold, so cold. It's the only thing you've been feeling since you we're captured, since those men took you from your home. You've forgotten how long you've been here. Quite a while you believe, from the length your hair and nails have grown. It was always just you in the cellblock. That was until the guards walked in carrying an unconcious woman. She was tall, from what you could see, with brown hair up in a ponytail and an athletic yet slender build. They put her in the cell across from you, locking it and going back to their patrols. You could see her chest rise and fall, a sign she was still alive. Her face was tainted with some blood, but only had small wounds herself. You stood up to see if there was anything else you could discover about her. Standing at the bars you tried to take more of her in. She was undeniably beautiful, the serene look on her face highlighting her beauty.
Eventually a frown appeared, and she opened her eyes. She looked confused at first, but quickly took a hardend look. "Hello?" you asked, "Are you alright?" She looked suprised for a second, not realising there was another person with her in the cell block. Taking in her surroundings, she turned to you. "Where are we?" she asked hurriedly. "Trinitys prison." you told her. "You're the first person i've seen in a while." Her face turned panicked as she quickly approached the bars, trying to shake them without much succes.
"That won't do much," you said, "believe me i've tried it all before." Almost like she wasn't listening, she continues to kick and pull at the bars. After a while she gave up on the bars and started looking for different ways out. Not wanting to take all her hope away yet, you kept quiet and let her exhaust herself looking for an exit. When the woman finally sat down, you tried to make contact with her again. "What's your name?" She looked up, hesitating before saying, "Lara, Lara Croft. And you are?" You presented a small smile before saying, "I'm Y/N. You know it's nice to see a new face that isn't one of those ugly guards." The woman, now known as Lara, smiled a little.
She looked around for a little before saying, "I can't stay any longer, i have to keep going." Swiftly standing up, she looked at a pipe on the wall. Before you knew it she pulled the pipe off and was now hitting the wall. To your suprise the wall started crumbling, and inside was a bow. You quickly stood up, feeling hope start to bubble inside you. Was it finally happening, were you finally going to be able to get out of this hell? "You know how to use that thing?" you asked hopefully. She looked at you before saying, "I do, this might be the key to our escape." Before you could reply back she aimed the bow and shot at a block covered in rope above her cell, quickly making her way out before walking towards your cell. She hesitated for a moment, "What are you waiting for, open it!" you hurriedly said. "Can i trust you? she asked, a look of confliction on her face. Your gaze softened, it was obvious from the way she doubted to help you that she had been betrayed before. "Lara," you said, "i want to get out of here just as much as you do, so please let me help you." It only took a few seconds before she reached for the keys on the table behind her, unlocking your cell. "Thank you, thank you so much." you said.
Leading Lara out of the cellblock and into the staircase was easy, having seen those guards do it hundreds of times. "You know how to get out of here?" Lara asked. "More or less," you said, "i believe there is a way out not to far from here." Reaching the end of the staircase you entered a room with a projecter. Lara clicked it and pictures of the base started playing on the white screen. Walking over to the door you tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge. "Shit." you said. Lara looked in your direction before asking, "What's wrong?'' "It's locked," you said, "and i dont have anything to pick the lock." "Get back." She said, grabbing an axe before breaking the door open. She climbed out before asking, "You coming?"
This was bad. You know were you had to go, but there were to many obstacles. Guards with automatic weapons and a gate of which you had no idea where the controls were. "Stay here," Lara said, "i'll take them down." You quickly looked at her, staring as if she was insane. "Are you crazy? There's to many of them and i can't fight." you said. "Don't worry, i got this." she said, already making her way to one of the connected buildings before you could protest. She got behind one of the men, strangling him without a sound. You watched in awe of her skill, as she stealthily took down guard after guard. It wasn't long before the area was clear of any enemies and Lara signed for you to come her way. Hopping off the roof you walked towards her, seeing the controls for the gate that was blocking your way. "Where the hell did you learn to do that?" you asked her. "I had lessons when i was younger." She smiled. "I really enjoyed them so i decided to pursue them." Walking towards the open gate together, you knew this wasn't going to be the last challenge you had to win to get your freedom back. But you knew that if you had Lara by your side, no challenge was to difficult to overcome.

Hidden Relics
Warnings - none
The jungle was alive, humming with the sounds of unseen creatures and the whisper of leaves in the breeze. The dense canopy overhead filtered the sunlight into dappled gold, casting everything in an otherworldly glow. You trudged behind Lara, boots sinking into the damp earth, your breathing heavier than you’d like to admit. She moved with ease, her lithe form weaving through the underbrush as though she were born to it.
And you supposed she was.
You wiped sweat from your brow, your eyes lingering on her for a moment longer than necessary. Her braid swayed with each step, and her fitted tank top clung to her frame, damp with exertion. She’d been in her element all day, navigating the hidden pathways of this ancient ruin like she’d read the map a thousand times. Meanwhile, you felt like a tourist on a treadmill, struggling to keep up.
“You’re quiet back there,” she called over her shoulder, her accented voice cutting through the sounds of the jungle.
“Trying not to trip,” you replied with a sheepish grin, quickening your pace to catch up.
She smirked, the corner of her lips quirking in that way that always made your stomach flip. “Stick close, then. We wouldn’t want to lose you, would we?”
The playful glint in her eye made your heart race, but you covered it with a laugh. “I’ll do my best, fearless leader.”
The truth was, you’d follow Lara anywhere. Across jungles, through deserts, into ancient tombs with crumbling walls and death traps lurking around every corner. Not because you had a knack for adventure—you didn’t. It was because of her. The way she threw herself into danger with reckless abandon, yet always emerged victorious. The way she treated you like an equal, even when you knew you weren’t. The way she looked at you sometimes, like you were the only person in the world who mattered.
It was intoxicating. And infuriating. Because no matter how close you got to her, it never felt like enough.
By the time you reached the hidden temple, the sun was dipping low on the horizon, casting the clearing in shades of orange and purple. The structure was massive, its weathered stone walls covered in moss and carved with intricate patterns. Vines snaked their way up the sides, and the entrance yawned open like a mouth waiting to swallow you whole.
“It’s beautiful,” you murmured, awestruck by the sight.
Lara’s voice was soft, almost reverent. “It is. And dangerous. Stay close to me.”
You nodded, gripping your gear tightly as she led the way inside. The air grew cooler as you stepped into the shadow of the temple, the scent of damp stone and earth filling your lungs. Lara’s flashlight beam cut through the darkness, revealing a long corridor lined with crumbling statues. Each step echoed in the silence, the weight of history pressing down on you.
It didn’t take long for the first trap to spring.
The floor beneath you shifted with a low rumble, and suddenly you were tumbling forward, landing hard on a narrow ledge. Below you, jagged spikes glinted in the faint light, and your heart leapt into your throat.
Lara called for you, her voice sharp and panicked. She was already on her knees at the edge, reaching for you.
“I’m okay,” you called up, though your shaking hands and racing pulse said otherwise. You reached for her outstretched hand, her grip strong and steady as she hauled you back up.
The moment you were on solid ground, she pulled you into a fierce hug, her arms wrapping around you tightly. “Don’t scare me like that,” she muttered against your shoulder, her voice uncharacteristically vulnerable.
Your breath hitched, and you hesitated before hugging her back. “Sorry. I’ll try to avoid death traps next time.”
She pulled back just enough to look at you, her hands still gripping your arms. Her eyes searched yours, and for a moment, it felt like the world had narrowed to just the two of you. You thought she might say something else, something that would finally crack the walls you’d been dancing around for months. But then she released you, stepping back and clearing her throat.
“Let’s keep moving,” she said, her tone brisk. The moment was gone, leaving you to wonder if you’d imagined it.
As the night wore on, the two of you finally made camp in a small alcove within the temple. Lara’s sharp instincts and careful planning had kept you safe so far, but exhaustion was beginning to take its toll. You sat across from her, the faint glow of a lantern casting flickering shadows on the walls.
Lara was cleaning her gun, her movements precise and methodical. You watched her in silence, your chest tight with a mix of admiration and frustration. She was right there, so close you could reach out and touch her. But she felt a million miles away.
“You never let your guard down, do you?” you asked, breaking the silence.
She looked up, her expression unreadable. “I can’t afford to.”
“Not even with me?” you pressed, your voice quieter now.
Her gaze softened, and she set the gun aside, leaning forward slightly. “You’re the one person I can’t afford to lose,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
The weight of her words hung between you, heavy and charged. You wanted to say something, to tell her how much she meant to you, how every glance and touch from her set your heart racing. But before you could, the sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor.
Lara was on her feet in an instant, her gun drawn and her body tense. You scrambled to your feet, your own weapon at the ready. The footsteps grew louder, and then a man stepped into the light. He was tall, with dark hair and a roguish grin that made your stomach churn.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Lara Croft,” he drawled, his voice dripping with smugness.
Lara’s expression hardened. “What are you doing here?”
“Same as you, love. Chasing legends.” His eyes flicked to you, and his grin widened. “And who’s this? Your new sidekick?”
You bristled at his tone, but before you could retort, Lara stepped between you, her stance protective. “They’re none of your concern,” she said coldly.
Jonas laughed, the sound grating. “Touchy, aren’t we? Don’t worry, I’m not here to cause trouble. Just thought I’d say hello.”
He winked at you before turning and disappearing back into the shadows. The tension in the air lingered long after he was gone.
“Who was that?” you asked, your voice shaking slightly.
Lara’s jaw clenched. “An old... acquaintance. He’s trouble. Stay away from him.”
You nodded, but the encounter left you uneasy. And, though you hated to admit it, a flicker of jealousy burned in your chest. It wasn’t hard to imagine Lara with someone like Jonas—charming, confident, and every bit as daring as she was. The thought made your stomach twist.
Over the next few days, The strangers presence became a constant thorn in your side. He seemed to appear wherever you and Lara went, always with a cocky remark and a lingering look in her direction. She brushed him off at every turn, but it didn’t stop the jealousy from gnawing at you.
One evening, after a particularly tense encounter with him, you found yourself snapping. “Why does he keep following us?” you demanded, your frustration boiling over.
Lara sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose. “Because he wants what we’re after. And because he enjoys getting under my skin.”
“Well, it’s working,” you muttered.
Her eyes narrowed, and she crossed her arms. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means...” You hesitated, struggling to find the right words. “It means I’m tired of feeling like I’m competing for your attention.”
The words hung in the air, and Lara’s expression softened. She stepped closer, her gaze searching yours. “You have my attention,” she said quietly. “You always have.”
Your breath caught, and for a moment, all the jealousy and doubt melted away. She reached out, her fingers brushing yours, and the warmth of her touch sent a shiver down your spine.
“He doesn’t matter,” she said firmly. “You do.”
The vulnerability in her voice was your undoing. Without thinking, you closed the distance between you, your lips capturing hers in a kiss that was both desperate and tender. She froze for a moment, and then she was kissing you back, her hands tangling in your hair as she pulled you closer.
When you finally broke apart, her forehead rested against yours, her breath warm against your skin. “You’re the only one I care about,” she whispered.
And in that moment, with her arms around you and her words echoing in your ears, you knew it was true.

Summary: On a lazy rainy Sunday, you decided to surprise each of her boys by dressing up as the women who stole their hearts during childhood. What starts as a playful gift turns into something a lot more tender.

The rain hasn’t stopped all morning. It taps softly on the windows of your shared quarters, a soothing rhythm that makes the whole place feel like a slow, sleepy dream. The air smells like coffee and warm laundry, and somewhere in the rec room, you can hear the faint hum of a kettle.
The boys are scattered, relaxed. Sunday is sacred—no training, no briefings, no missions.
You’ve been planning this for weeks.
A little mischief. A lot of love. And just enough nostalgia to knock the breath out of each of them.
You’ve already told them you’d be “trying on outfits” today. You left out which ones.
—
THE CAPTAIN AND THE CROFT
You walk into the lounge first, boots heavy, hips swaying. The tank top clings to you in all the right ways. Cargo shorts ride high on your thighs, and the toy gun holsters bounce slightly with each step.
John looks up from his newspaper—classic, worn, and full of half-finished crosswords.
His eyes drag over you.
He doesn’t say a word. Not right away.
You walk to the center of the room and strike a pose, one hand resting on your belt, the other adjusting your braid.
“Well?” you smirk. “Got any ancient tombs that need exploring?”
John exhales through his nose, the paper forgotten. “Lara bloody Croft,” he mutters, voice gravelly. “Are you trying to make me short-circuit, love?”
You grin and strut closer, dropping into his lap. His arms wrap around you instantly, hands warm on your bare thighs.
“I wanted to give you something fun. Something for you.” You lean in, lips brushing his ear. “Remember the VHS tapes you said you wore out when you were fourteen?”
His laughter is warm, chesty, completely smitten. “You really are somethin’ else.”
“Say it,” you whisper.
He grins against your cheek. “You’re my dream girl, love. Always have been.”
—
GHOSTS OF CHILDHOOD PAST
Next stop: the armory. You ditch the tank top for a bright yellow cropped jacket, a fake news badge clipped to your chest. Your hair’s styled in soft waves, and you carry a cheap mic like it’s a weapon.
Simon’s alone, gloves on, doing a casual clean of his knives. The fluorescent lights buzz quietly overhead.
You lean in the doorway.
“This is April O’Neil, reporting live,” you say, voice smooth. “Today we bring you exclusive coverage of the most mysterious man on base.”
Simon stills. Knife mid-polish.
Slowly, his head lifts.
You step forward, hips swaying, mic tapping against your chin.
He sets the blade down with exaggerated care. “You can’t be serious.”
“I’m always serious, Simon.”
He stands fully now, towering and solid, eyes flicking over every detail of your outfit. His expression is unreadable—but his ears are red.
“April was my first crush,” he mutters, voice low, nearly reverent. “I wanted to be one of the turtles just so she’d notice me.”
You grin, hands curling into his vest. “You think she’d notice you now?”
He huffs a soft laugh and tips your chin up. “She’d fall to her knees.”
You blush, heart thundering.
And when he lifts the bottom of his mask just enough to kiss you—soft, slow, careful—you melt like butter in his hands.
—
SAVE THE WORLD, GET THE GUY
“Johnny,” you call sweetly as you step into the rec room again, “what’s the sitch?”
He looks up from the couch and immediately gasps like he’s seen a ghost—and maybe he has.
“Love, Jesus Christ,” he groans, sitting up straighter. “Is that—are you—Kim Possible?!”
You spin for him dramatically, gloves fitted tight, olive-green cargos hugging your curves. “Ron’s on leave. I’m handling missions solo today.”
He scrambles to his feet and rushes toward you, practically vibrating. “This isn’t fair. You know what you’re doin’ to me, lass.”
“Remind me?”
“You’re everything I wanted at thirteen and everything I want now in one body.”
You laugh as he sweeps you off your feet, spinning you like you weigh nothing. He presses you to the wall gently, nose brushing yours, forehead resting against you.
“Call me, beep me,” he whispers, voice low and hot, “if you wanna wreck me.”
—
PRETTY GUARDIAN POWER
You save Kyle for last—because his reaction is going to be the best.
You slip into the quarters where he’s reading, hoodie draped over his lap. He doesn’t see you at first.
Then you clear your throat and say in your brightest voice: “In the name of the moon, I will punish you!”
Kyle looks up—and freezes.
Full Sailor Scout getup. Skirt, gloves, red bows, fake tiara glittering on your forehead. You pose with your hands on your hips, your grin wide.
He drops his book.
“No way,” he whispers, eyes wide.
“Surprised?” you tease.
“You’re gonna give me a heart attack, babe.” He stands, walking slowly, reverently, like he can’t believe you’re real. “Sailor Moon?”
“I heard Sailor Jupiter was your girl.”
“She was. Tall. Tough. Gorgeous.” He stops in front of you, gaze warm. “But I think she just got replaced.”
You giggle as he lifts you into his arms, bridal style, spinning you toward the bed. “What are you doing?” you laugh.
“Dream-fulfillment service,” he teases. “Full package.”
—
Later, you’re curled up on the oversized couch you all had delivered after your last mission. You’re tucked between Simon’s solid chest and Kyle’s warm arm, your legs draped across Johnny’s lap. John’s hand rests on your knee, fingers brushing gently.
“You are ridiculous,” Simon mutters—but he can’t stop smiling.
“Ridiculously hot,” Johnny corrects, dropping a kiss on your ankle.
John chuckles. “I’m just impressed you remembered the details.”
“I remember everything about you boys,” you say softly.
Kyle leans in, his voice gentle. “You really wanted to make us feel special.”
“I always do.”
There’s a moment of silence. Warmth. Shared glances. Then, in perfect harmony, they lean in—kissing your cheeks, your forehead, your lips—until you’re breathless and giggling and entirely, completely theirs.

Hope you enjoyed! Please consider liking and reposting! -Midnight💜

[ROTTR/SOTTR] Lara Croft x Female Reader - "Mutual"
[Requested by anonymous: "Hi, I would like to ask for a headcanon in which Y/N and Lara have been friends since they were teenagers and as they grow up Lara feels a secret crush on her best friend but doesn't know how to tell her, because she thinks Y/N doesn't feel the same."]
Summary: Lara's known you all her life, and you've always been there for her through thick and thin. It was only a matter of time before she ended up falling for you.
Word Count: 2k Content + Warnings: Brief mentions of jealousy + yearning

[A/N]: So sorry this took so long, hun! I was overwhelmed with a whole bunch of requests between my own personal stories, so it took me a while to see your message. I hope this matches what you were hoping for.
Enjoy!
You met Lara when you were both teenagers
You had both been sent to the same boarding school, and although neither of you liked being there, you still managed to hit it off
You were one of the very few people at the boarding school she could tolerate, and eventually you became the only one she actually enjoyed being around
More often than not, she’d end up sneaking out of her room and into yours
After a while of this, combined with realizing she wasn’t entirely worried about getting caught beyond small punishments, the head of the school decided the two of you would share a room from then on so she’d stop causing issues at night
This helped the two of you grow even closer, which Lara was incredibly thankful for
Studies and grades were never really an issue for her, but she was more than willing to help you with whatever you needed to work on
Even if it wasn’t something she was studying herself, she would still figure it out so quickly and immediately find an easier way for you to understand it
She’s the main reason you ended up getting good grades
If it weren’t for her offering to reteach the subjects you didn’t understand (since the teachers often refused to elaborate any further, even after lessons), you likely wouldn’t have graduated on time
Instead, you both finally completed primary and secondary school without much issue
When high school rolled around, you both managed to find your own ways to leave the boarding school, and you ultimately ended up in the same high school, much to your relief
Before the events of the game, I can see Lara actually getting along relatively well with others. She didn’t actively seek out new friendships, since she prefers to be alone most of the time, but she wasn’t one to shy away or cause problems
Still, even with the occasional friend she would make, you were the only one she actually preferred spending her time with
You understood that she would hardly talk during most hangouts – unless she found a new study that caught her interest – so she didn’t feel pressured to constantly hold a conversation
It was nice to just be able to read in silence while you were there with her
Your presence was comforting, one of the only sense of familiarity and stability that she had anymore, and she found herself wanting to be around you more often
It was surprising to her
Having other people around, especially when she wanted to focus on one of her studies or touch up on some of her skills, always brought her constant annoyance
It was the main reason she spent most of her time alone
You, however, quickly became the exception
Even after meeting Sam when you both made it into college, Lara still preferred to spend the majority of her time with you
There were a handful of times where you and Sam would both come over, though those became more and more rare after she started to feel a sense of what she could only describe as jealousy
She knew Sam would never hurt her – same with you – but it always pained her to see you and Sam getting along so well
A lot of the time, Lara wondered if you preferred Sam over her
Whenever your attention would only be focused on Sam, she wanted to say or do something just to get your eyes back on her
Anytime you’d ask if Sam wanted to join in, Lara would lie and say that Sam was busy with something else
Of course, she couldn’t always fall back on this lie
It had to be believable, and she didn’t want you growing suspicious of her wanting to deliberately leave one of her best friends out
So, unfortunately, there were times where she had to invite Sam over anyway, just so you didn’t see through her lie
And this continued for a long, long time
She wasn’t even entirely sure why she wanted to be alone with you so much
It wasn’t until after visiting Yamatai that she finally began to piece everything together
Nearly losing Sam hit her hard enough, and it started to make her think of what she’d lose if she nearly lost you, too
Nightmares became common, and you’d usually find her awake at the oddest hours of the night
Your presence helped her sleep through them sometimes, mainly because a lot of them revolved around different ways she could lose you, but more often than not, she would give up on trying to get enough sleep
The thought of losing you felt so much heavier than the thought of losing Sam, though she didn’t understand why
Months passed, and after talking with Jonah about it a few times, she realized something
She had fallen for you
That’s why it stressed her out so much more – you were everything to her, and you had been for a long time
Reflecting on her childhood with you made her realize that she’d actually had these feelings for a long time, they’d just grown stronger over the years
She began to wonder if you felt the same, and her mind starting filling itself with different fantasies of sharing a life with you
So desperately, she wanted to tell you how she felt
But she was terrified that sharing her feelings would only drive you away
She’d already lost her family a long time ago
If she had any shot of building a family with you, that meant there also stood a chance that she could lose you, too
A year passed where she was helplessly yearning for you
She could often be seen staring at you, and if you weren’t in the room, she would almost constantly talk about you to whoever would listen
Jonah would tease her about it occasionally, even though she always shrugged it off, but he finally decided to sit her down one night for a talk
“Alright, little bird, what’s on your mind?”
She blinked, her brows furrowing
“What’re you talking about?”
“You know what I’m talking about. You know who I’m talking about, too.”
She instantly turned away, crossing her arms over her chest and shaking her head
“No, I don’t.”
He chuckled, bringing her attention back to him
Her features softened
There was no animosity in his tone when he spoke again, no sense of judgement or mockery found
“You love her, Lara. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. Besides, anyone can see it. I just don’t understand why you can’t tell her.”
Her eyes lowered, body leaning forward until her elbows rested on her legs
A small, shaky sigh slipped through her lips while she shook her head
“Because I know she doesn’t feel the same way about me, Jonah.”
“How are you so sure about that?”
She opened her mouth, then closed it, then repeated the motion a few times
There were so many words on the tip of her tongue, but none of them would form
Her voice wouldn’t let her express her worries, it never did
At length, she sighed again, this time much louder
“She just doesn’t. I don’t know how to explain it, but I just know she doesn’t.”
“I still think you should give it a shot. I think you’ll like her answer more than you think.”
Even though she denied the suggestion, she still found herself leaning more towards following his advice day by day
It was getting to the point where she couldn’t go a single day without thinking about how you’d react if she confessed to you
She couldn’t take it anymore after seeing someone random flirting with you when you were both out at a cafe
She didn’t step in, knowing you would handle yourself just fine, but you could tell she was more upset about it than you were
The entire drive back to her place, she was practically pouting, her eyebrows pinched together and her lips pulled back into a small sneer
You finally asked her what was wrong once you were halfway there
She turned to you, simply staring for a second
After a moment of saying nothing, she sighed
“I guess now is a good time.”
“Huh?”
She turned to you, her eyes now softening
She went on to explain how irritated she got when the random person at the cafe kept flirting with you, followed by how she has something she needs to finally get off of her chest
When you pried further, you saw her face glow red for the very first time
“I think… I think I’m in love with you,” she blurted, keeping her eyes on the floor of the car
You froze at her confession, quickly growing equally as shy
“Oh. That’s, uh, not what I was expecting you to say at all.”
She turned away again, scoffing
“Just tell me you don’t feel the same so I can get on with everything.”
“But I do feel the same.”
You watched as she stayed in place for a second
She was still facing away from you, but you didn’t fail to catch how her eyes widened a fraction and her brows lifted
Slowly, she turned to face you again
“You do?”
“Of course I do.”
“And you’re not just saying this to make me feel better?”
You laughed quietly, shaking your head and letting your hand fall on her arm
“No, of course not. I really mean it, Lara. I’ve had feelings for you for a long time, actually, but I figured you wouldn’t feel the same, so I just kept it to myself.”
She couldn’t remember the last time she felt so relieved to hear something
Her lips curved up into a smile and she lowered her head, now uncharacteristically sheepish
“Oh. I didn’t know.”
“Neither did I.”
The rest of the ride was silent, but it was comfortable
It felt incredible finally getting her feelings out, even if the confession didn’t go the way she wanted
After making it back, she was quick to step out of the car and walk to the other side, pulling your car door open and helping you get out as well
The two of you headed to her room, where you sat on the bed while she moved to her desk
It was awkward trying to think of what to say, but she finally asked the question that had been burning in her mind for years
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
If it was even possible, her eyes lit up even more when you said yes
After finally calming down from everything that had happened, you opened up about how long you had been feeling the same way about Lara
Her heart hammered against her ribs with every little admission to how much you’d been wanting to take things a step further, and she eventually found herself sitting next to you on the mattress
Slowly, she took your hand in hers
“I’m not the best at this stuff. I mean, I’ve never been with anyone before, so I can’t guarantee that I’ll be exactly what you need, but I can promise you that I’ll try. I want to make this work.”
You grinned at her then, your smile mirroring hers, and you shifted your hand a bit to squeeze hers reassuringly
“I want this to work, too. I know things won’t always be perfect, but if you’re willing to give this a chance, then I am, too.”
She hummed, nodding
“But,” you added a moment later, “could you promise me something?”
She nodded again
“Of course. Anything at all.”
“Promise me that, even if things don’t work out the way we want them to, you won’t ever leave?”
That familiar shimmer glistened in her eyes again, one that you adored so much
Her hand returned the action from before, squeezing your palm softly against her own
“I promise. I’ve waited so long to be with you. I’m not going anywhere.”

Do I Look Like Him?
You hesitated by the large double oak doors. There was a hint of light you could see through the cracks so you know Lara was in there. But whether she wanted to talk to you was a different story.
Her latest research led her to South Africa; an amulet that her father had suspicions about but never had the chance to see if it was true. She was within arms reach of the jewel but multiple surprise explosions from Trinity caused it to fall into the ocean, forever lost to the sea.
But maybe it was better that way. Now, no one had to worry about it landing in the wrong hands.
Lara thought differently. She never told you what happened during this trip like she normally would. If anything, she was quiet—tense even. It worried you.
You finally tapped your knuckles on the wood before cracking it open. Lara was sitting in her chair, hunched over her desk with an old journal opened in front of her. You thought your presence in the room went unnoticed until she finally spoke to you when you walked next to her.
“Why are you still up?” She asked quietly, her full attention still not on you .
”You weren’t in bed,” you said. “I figured you would be in here especially since you should be resting.”
”I’m fine.”
”Lara, you got shot in the stomach,” you said, your tone getting sharp. “You almost died.”
She muttered out a response. “It’s not the first time I got shot, love.”
”You almost died,” you repeated. “You passed out twice as I was patching you up. Figuring out where Trinity is can wait, you need rest.”
Lara didn’t answer but seeing her jaw tightened, you could tell she was getting annoyed by the conversation. You took a second to calm yourself.
”Listen, Lara, I didn’t come here to argue with you,” you said softly. “I wanted to talk to you…about you retiring.”
”Retirement?” Lara parroted, finally giving you a look.
”Everytime you come back from wherever the hell, you seem to get closer to death,” your voice was shaky but you powered through it. “And one of these days, your luck might run out and I couldn’t live with that! A-and not to mention this obsession you have with Trinity. I get it, Lara, I really do but you’re acting like your fat—“
Lara’s sudden and sharp tone cut off your small rant, not wanting to hear those words coming from you. “Y/N! I don’t have time for this right now. I’m trying to focus but I can’t do that with you here. So…please leave.”
You both sat in tense silence. Lara never yelled, at least never at you, so safe to say this was uncharted territory. You could only stare at her back in shock, noticing that she paid more attention to the written words rather than the ones said to you.
“Fine, Lara,” you scoffed, leaving the brunette to her endeavors.
The pencil tapped against her desk, the words in front of her not being processed. “Retirement,” she repeated, the word foreign on her tongue. “I bet you never considered that.”
The picture she was talking to, one of both of her mother and father, only answered her with silence. Over her years growing up, Lara couldn’t remember most memories with her father. It was always her and her mother, and the severents of the manor. But what she did remember of her father was the arguments he had with her mother, regarding him prioritizing his over his family. Then when her mother died, he only buried himself deeper.
Maybe if he did consider retiring, things would be different for Lara. Maybe her parents would still be alive.
And instead of listening to your words, Lara seemed to be following in her father’s footsteps.
”Fuck,” Lara muttered, rubbing her hands over her face. She sat alone with her thoughts for a little longer, thinking on what to say to you.
Lara stalled for time when she cleaned up the little mess that was in her office before walking to your shared bedroom.
Lara carefully pushed the bedroom door opened, expecting to see you still awake waiting for her. Instead, your body was turned away from her, body completely covered by the heavy blankets. Lara wasn’t sure if you were awake or pretending to be asleep but she was still extra quiet when she crawled into bed next to you; she left a small amount of space between you both, not sure if you were up for cuddling.
”I’m sorry,” she whispered. Lara could hear you release a soft sigh at her apology, but you didn’t interrupted her. “I shouldn’t have snapped at you.”
”I was only trying to help, Lara,” was all you said.
”I know. I know, and I appreciate that—you very much.” Her hand reached to caress your shoulder, urging you to turn and face her. “And…and I understand what you want. And you’re right.”
”I’m right?” Those were words you never really heard from Lara, at least seriously, so hearing this was new.
She had a hard time getting her words together. “I never…considered retiring, until you. The adventure, that’s all I’ve known. I guess you can say that I’ve grown accustomed to it, even despite my injuries. But, if it comes to you or my job, I will choose you every time.”
”Lara…”
”I will retire,” she said, placing her palm over your cheek. “And as long as you’ll have me, I’ll be with you.”
You stayed silent, searching her face for any sign of her second guessing; but all you saw was her undying love for you. Your own hand reached to cover the one that was holding your face, rubbing your thumb over Lara’s scared knuckles.
A wordless acceptance that eased most of Lara’s nerves.
”May I have a kiss?” Granted, she could get one whenever she wants but Lara didn’t know if you were too upset.
A soft smile was her answer before you softly pressed your lips against her pouted ones. And when your forehead rested against her own, Lara felt at completely ease.

First Time? — Lara Croft.

Lara X fem!reader
warnings: virginity taking, smut, fingering, pet names, lara being such a heartthrob. (proofread but sorry for any mistakes.)
anon request.
i finally finished writing this oooo, sorry i rushed the ending.
you were getting ready on the floor of your bedroom, your phone lighting up with a new text message from your girlfriend, Lara.
she promised she’d take you for a walk around town now that you have a break from college exams, random quizzes and all that.
you were very grateful she’s understanding, she did go to university herself, even if she was over five years older than you.
you dabbed some blusher on the apples of your cheeks with the mirror in front of you, then took a hold of your phone to remind her you’ll be there soon, you wouldn’t be late.
it was hours later as you begged Lara to sit down, your legs gave out from the walking you’d already done, sweat breaking out from your forehead.
“jeez, honey.. you’ve got the stamina of a baby.” she said, taking a seat next to you, opening her bottle of water to give you a sip, wiping your sweaty forehead with her palm, then wiped it over her shirt, you liked how Lara didn’t care much for such stuff, like getting your sweat on her clothes.
“drink up.” lara broke you out of your thoughts as you opened your mouth and took a sip from her bottle, lara fixed you up a little, patting down the flying out hairs off your scalp and the side of your face, grabbing a tissue to wipe your cheeks, she’s often motherly with you, at some point you did find it weird but now? you didn’t mind it one bit.
you liked how she took care of you without asking for anything in return.
as she allowed you another sip from her bottle you smiled and chugged it down your dry throat. “are you okay? damn, i’m afraid you’ll pass out on me.” Lara scoffed, smoothing down your shirt.
“i’m fine, sorry.” you finally chuckled, you had no idea why you were so lost in thought that day, you couldn’t help but think.
maybe what had you this hazed up is the thought of lara intimately the other night, and you forced yourself to sleep so you don’t have to think much of it.
Lara knew she had to take it slow as you were much younger than her, and she didn’t want to jump into anything that would make you uncomfortable, she’s so sensitive about the fact that she could do anything that would hurt you, or make you uncomfortable around her, so she hoped you’d initiate it first… until then she’s gonna wait, she’d wait forever for you.
but you? you couldn’t initiate shit, you were a nerve wreck, so damn awkward, maybe you were even slightly self conscious, Lara had no idea you were a virgin, she thought you had a wild past, considering you were in your early twenties, it’s valid for people this age to do so much and you didn’t wanna confirm nor deny things, so you kept quiet.
every time you tried to initiate something, you were worried you didn’t shave, or didn’t shower, you probably smelt bad, you’d just stand there like a fool and forget all about it, idea tossed to the side.
you brain was your worst enemy, and it didn’t help that Lara was one of the prettiest women you could ever be with, you can’t imagine being inexperienced with her, or doing something stupid or looking ugly in such a special moment.
Lara walked you home that day, then you insisted she spends the night, only because it would be fun… right?
Lara on the other hand didn’t think of it that way, she was so sure you’d finally initiate something, she felt so excited she couldn’t breathe at all.
as you opened the door to your bedroom, Lara walked in. just trying to act normal, for now.
she looked at your room, your bed, it was a single bed.. damn.
Lara cleared her throat and went through your books on the shelf, impressed by the variety of collections you had, small figurines she found adorable as you flushed in embarrassment, she was never in your bedroom, it felt nice to have her here though.
she finally took a seat on your bed then, stretching out on your single bed she’d definitely tease you for later.
“pretty room, never imagined your room to be this… singular though.” she giggled, leaning on her knees with a smirk, her brown eyes searching through yours, making your cheek flush a pink shade Lara adored.
“i… yeah..” you blushed.
“don’t be shy, singular beds can be nice too.” Lara said, kicking her boots off as she flopped down the bed, not having space much for you if she were to ever stay the night in your bed like this, she looked amazing on your bed, you couldn’t help but stare as a feeling pooled through you, your cheeks getting redder than before.
you were playing with the hem of your shirt as thoughts rolled around your head, listening to her breathe, her figure resting on your bed like that.
it was so tempting.
you wanted her.
every fibre of your being was aching for her, for her touch, but you couldn’t, you were so scared.
as your thoughts ate away at you, Lara caught on, she always knew, she just hated to pressure you.
she called your name, causing you to look into her warm brown eyes that looked yellow from certain angles and lightings.
“what’s wrong? you’ve been lost in that pretty head of yours all day.” Lara sat up on your bed, her hand taking yours as she placed a soft kiss to your knuckles.
you gulped, you’re gonna say it.
you’re gonna admit it, both the fact that you were a virgin, and the fact that you’ve been craving her for months.
you bit down your slightly chapped lip, turning on your bed to face her, there goes nothing.
it’s better than drowning in these thoughts and feelings, you have to be honest with her, it’s a commitment to do so and you were so committed to Lara.
there’s nothing wrong with being honest about your lack of experience; you knew Lara isn’t shallow and close minded.
you rubbed the side of your head as your breathing caught in your throat, your words choked, you needed to pull yourself together.
Lara took a hold of your chin with her free hand as she leaned her head closer to yours, seeking out your expressions, wanting to understand you and understand your feelings. Lara knew you were too hard on yourself sometimes and barely let it out.
she waited, squeezing your chin softly in her rough fingers.
“i’m..” you finally started, one step at a time.
“Lara i’m… um..” you paused, your tongue tied and your palms so sweaty.
“you’re what, honey?” Lara softly muttered, her fingers still placed underneath your chin, her other hand rubbing your thigh in comfort.
“a… virgin.” you whispered, your gaze averted, refusing to keep eye contact, your embarrassment was bad enough as it is, you can’t imagine how she’d look at you as your thoughts ate away every ounce of common sense you could have had over this.
Lara forced your chin upwards, your gaze falling back into hers.
“and that’s a problem, how?” Lara mumbled, leaning closer to you, the tip of her nose brushing against yours. “tell me.. how’s that a problem?” she asked, her fingers tightening against your chin.
“it’s.. n—not..” you breathed, unable to say anything, she made your brain a mush of mess, unable to think straight.
as if anything about her would make you straight.
Lara's lips made contact with your jaw, her hand on your thigh reached all the way up to hold your hip, pulling you closer.
“that’s right.. i’d get to be the first one to touch you, the only one who touches you…” she mumbled into your soft skin, she’d die doing this and she’d be the happiest woman ever.
“i wanna taste you so bad.” Lara moaned into your neck, bringing you by the waist on top of her, lying down on your small bed.
“Lara.. wait please.” you supported yourself on the bed, your hands on either side of her head as you stared down at your older girlfriend, her hands holding your waist.
“shh… it’s okay.” she cooed, placing soft kisses on your cheek. “i know… we don’t have to do anything, i just wanted you to be certain that i’d never judge you, never belittle you… so what if you've never had sex before?” Lara reassured you, her hand stroking your cheek softly, the pad of her thumb resting on your cheekbone.
“doesn’t make me like you any less, you’re still my girl.”
she smiled, nudging your nose with hers, her other hand gripping your waist in a comforting expression.
“is it… bad to say that i wanna do it with you?” you mumbled, staring at her brown eyes as she was beneath you, giving you the opportunity to be this close to her, her freckles like constellations, her scent so enticing and her warmth inviting, your lips found themselves on the corner of her mouth, feeling her hands on your lower back.
“not bad… i want the same thing, love.” her thick accent rang in your ears, her calloused fingers touching the inside of your shirt, the pad of her thumbs stroking every inch she can come across. your head dipped to the crook of her neck, her perfume even stronger as your nerves burned with desire.
this is the first time you’ve ever been this close to a girl, your lips attached to the soft skin of her neck, her moans echoing through the walls of the bedroom making your untouched pussy throb at the way she writhed and squirmed in your damned small bed.
Lara gripped your hips as she guided your hips closer to hers, “let me take this off.” she whispered, undoing your jeans, her fingers soft and tender.
you helped her take off the garment, Lara knew she can’t fuck up your first time in any way, so she got up from the bed and picked you up around her waist to place you down so she’s on top, your hands buried themselves into her soft hair, bringing your lips to her neck as Lara tugged at your waist, holding back her moans.
your legs were on either side of her, Lara felt so damn dizzy at the sight of your legs spreading for her, she knew you were ready, that you wanted it.
she couldn’t wait to stretch your virgin pussy.
“easy there baby..” Lara moaned, pushing you down the bed by the hips, her fingers moving to slide your panties down your legs, her breath caught over the sight of your pussy, you were so wet… such a virgin, Lara thought.
“oh my..” Lara breathed, bringing her pointer and middle finger to spread your folds, rubbing them into you as you closed your eyes and let her touch you just like how badly you wanted her to. “so pretty…” Lara smiled, rubbing her index finger against your clit, watching you drip.
“such a good girl..” Lara praised you as her wrist flicked and she pumped her index and ring finger into you gently, she made sure you didn’t get hurt, knowing no one’s ever touched you like that before, but oh how proud she felt, it was honour to take your virginity like that, and she was glad you picked her.
“does that hurt?” Lara asked, sticking her fingers into your hole briefly, seeking out your reaction, your body tensed and breath caught in your throat. “no..” was all you said as Lara pushed her fingers slowly just a bit further inside. waiting to see if you’re in any pain before she fucked her fingers into you.
you were so wet, and your muscles relaxed, you enjoyed this beyond words and Lara was so thankful you felt comfortable with her, her lips found your cheek as she slowly fingered you, listening to your soft moans and soft breaths, you were breathtaking.
“so beautiful..” Lara mumbled, smiling at the sight of you like this, it wasn’t long before you gently rocked your hips to match her pace. “don’t hurt yourself baby… let me do the work.” she cooed, holding your hip to keep you from doing anything that will cause you pain.
“need you deeper..” you whispered, Lara complied and moved her fingers deeper, only slowly and with so much caution, you were so tight. only wet enough to let her fingers get sucked inside of you with her movement calculated. “more…” you whined, making Lara smack her lips.
she couldn’t add another finger, that’s pushing it.. especially for a first time. the only moved her other hand to rub at your clit, her fingers buried inside of you just going faster. “that good..?” lara breathed.
“yeah… yeah, fuck fuck..” you moaned, your hips rocking along with lara’s movements, she couldn’t stop you now, she wanted you to cum on her fingers. “fuck!” you mewled out, squirming.
“cum for me baby..” lara rasped, both hands working on your tight sweet pussy, rubbing and thrusting. she leaned in and pressed a kiss to your neck, making you arch your back and rock your hips further into her thick fingers.
Lara slowed her pace just a bit as she saw you coming undone all over her, and all over your bed, mewling and crying into the pillow, she figured your first orgasm would be intense, so she let you ride it out then she pulled out her fingers gently.
she looked at how much you’ve gushed down her fingers and she couldn’t help but shove them in her mouth, licking it clean while rubbing a hand over your stomach to comfort you. “it’s okay baby.” she says, leaning down to press a sticky kiss to your cheek, laying down beside you to hold and comfort you. her arms wrapped around you securely, pulling a blanket over you both as you’re squished on your small bed.

New Year's Kiss

Lara Croft x Fem! Reader CW: N/A WC: 1.5k+ A/N: Happy New Year, everyone!
"You never kissed anyone on New Year's?" my friend asked.
"Nope."
"Wow," she sipped her drink. "That must suck."
"Don't rub it in," I sighed and smacked her shoulder.
"Hey, it's not my fault you're 1: a hopeless romantic and 2: scared to talk to women you're attracted to."
"Talking to people in general is scary. Why do you think I stay home Friday and Saturday evenings?"
"I thought it was work related."
"It mostly is, but it is because I don't like going out to party. I am not a party person."
"Then why are you out here now?"
"Because," I eyed the bartender.
It was none other than renowned archeologist herself: Lara fucking Croft. I had no idea she even worked here. It wasn't until I recently came here with a few friends about six months ago when I noticed her. It seems a lot of other people noticed her, too, as they were trying to get her attention. She just smiled at them and made friendly conversation. But I noticed her stealing glances at me.
"Go talk to her," my friend said.
"Are you kidding me? T-There's nothing special about me."
My friend smirked and my face dropped.
"Stop. No."
"Excuse me," she flagged down Lara.
Lara came over and smiled at the two of us. I turned my head and hid behind my hand slightly.
"My friend has never drank anything before. What do you recommend?"
"Well, what is it that you like to drink?"
"S-Something fruity," I murmured.
"We've got plenty of those. Are you a light weight or do you think you can handle your liquor?" Lara asked.
"I-I don't know. I don't really drink."
"Let me get you something that isn't too much on the alcohol. Are you allergic to anything?"
"No," I said.
"Alright. I'll be right back with that drink. What's your name?"
"Y-Y/N."
"Lara," she said and extended out her hand. "But you probably knew."
"I-I didn't," I said and shook her hand.
"That's a first. Give me five minutes and I'll be right back."
"See, I wasn't going to do anything embarrassing," my friend said.
"I thought you were."
"I may want to see you happy, but I don't want to embarrass you in front of someone. Especially if we're out in public."
"Thank you."
A few minutes later, Lara came back with a drink that was blue and it had that edible glitter in it. So when it swirled around in the glass, it looked like I was drinking the night sky.
"This is amazing," I said. "What do you call it?"
"Starlight," Lara said.
"I don't see it on the menu," I examined the chalkboard.
"Because I just made it."
"From scratch?"
"Yeah."
My heart beat harder and faster in my chest. If I didn't already have a small crush on Lara, I do now. Maybe it was much bigger than the first time I saw her working here.
"H-How late are you working tonight?" I asked.
"The entire evening. It's going to get rowdy as the night goes on."
"Right, New Year's."
"Yep. Thankfully, they're paying me double tonight."
"As they should," I said as I drank more of the drink.
The alcohol was warming up my entire body and made me feel a bit comfortable, looser.
"What else do you do, Lara?" I asked.
"I'm an archeologist," she said.
"And you work here?"
"Sometimes being an archeologist doesn't bring in the money. Unless I sell it to a museum or something of the sorts. So this is another way to bring in money to pay the bills and to keep food on the table."
"Your name sounds familiar," I said.
"I'm surprised you didn't recognize me," she chuckled. "Most people do. Actually, everyone does. That's why there's so many people here alone just for me."
"I think they're just trying to get with you so that they can be famous. So that they can brag to everyone that they were with thee Lara Croft," I said.
The alcohol really got to my head now. Damn, I was a light weight.
"So you do know me?" she asked, her smile turned into a disappointed one.
"Y-Yeah," I sighed.
She sighed and shook her head, "I thought you were different."
"I-I'm sorry, Lara," I said. "I-It's just that, it's not hard to recognize you. It's not hard to know who you are, but I didn't come here because of that."
"You really expect me to believe that?"
"Do you remember me? The first time I came in here?"
"I do. I try to remember most of the clientele here."
"And how long ago was that?"
"Over the summer."
"And have you seen me since?"
"No. But that doesn't mean anything."
"It does, because I knew who you were the first time I came in here. I had no idea you worked here, I came here with some friends. They didn't even tell me you worked here. I figured it out on my own. And since that discovery, I haven't been back here until now."
"You could have been busy."
"I was busy, but I also don't go out and party. I like to stay home and do my own thing. But even if I did go out, I wouldn't come here. I'd go somewhere else. And if I did come here, it wasn't for the intent of seeing you."
I widened my eyes slightly as that last part came out a bit harsher than it should have. My friend almost choked on her drink as I said that.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound like an ass."
"I get your drift," Lara said and walked off.
"Fuck," I swore under my breath and chugged the rest of the drink.
I got some other drinks throughout the night until my head was spinning and I couldn't get up without wanting to throw up. My friend was sitting beside me while all of this was happening. I was never one to drink because of the reaction I get from it. I was a sad drunk when I was in my thoughts and tonight was no better. Tears slid down my face as I silently cried at the bar. Lara would occasionally come by and make small talk with my friend, but I think she avoided me after seeing the sorry state I was in. It took me a long time to sober up. And when I did, Lara was there to greet me with some water.
"Here," she said softly.
"Thanks," I wiped my eyes and sipped the water.
"Drinking isn't your strong suit?"
"It never was," I sighed. "I have a history with alcoholism."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"I'm sorry about what I said to you. I-I didn't mean it like that."
"It's alright. You're actually the first person who has ever been real to me. They're not trying to get with me because of who I am. Even though you knew who I was, you coming here had no correlation with me."
I nodded my head, "Yeah."
Up until it was an hour before midnight, Lara and I kept talking to one another. She'd leave here and there to take care of customers, but after that hiccup of a first impression, she seemed to enjoy my presence. I enjoyed hers.
"Do you usually celebrate New Year's?" I asked Lara.
"Not really. I haven't really done much with this holiday. I don't really have anyone to spend it with."
"How so?"
"My friends have someone they love and care for, my parents are no longer around, and so I usually find myself alone on New Year's."
"Yeah," I whispered. "I get that."
"You celebrate alone?"
"Up until this year I celebrated alone. My parents aren't really on speaking terms and I don't want anything to do with them. My friends have always invited me out, but you know about that," I chuckled.
"What made you want to come out tonight?"
"To see if she could get drunk enough to kiss someone," my friend said. Now the roles were reversed. She was drunk and I was sober.
"Is that true?" Lara chuckled.
"Yes and no," I admitted. "I never had a New Year's kiss. But I don't really intend to if I am not dating someone or in a committed relationship."
"I totally get that, but," Lara's face flushed slightly.
"But what?"
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year!" the crowd in the bar cheered.
People who were dating kissed one another, friends hugged each other. Everyone was enjoying themselves, alone or with someone romantic or platonic. It warmed my heart to see everyone so happy. Maybe I didn't need someone special to celebrate New Year's. Those thoughts were interrupted when Lara reached over and grabbed my jaw. She turned my head to face hers and pressed her lips to mine. My eyes widened in shock. She pulled away and her face immediately turned red.
"I-I am so sorry."
I turned my body around to face the bar and reached out to place my hands on her cheeks. I pulled her in for another kiss that lasted a bit longer than the first one. Once I pulled away, both of us were as red as can be.
"C-Can I call you sometime?"
"Of course," she said and handed over a napkin with her phone number written on it. "You'll know where I'll be."
She winked at me before she disappeared behind the bar.
