“Wow, this place is amazing!”
You could not help but agree with Kawaii~Chan this is certainly the nicest place you ever lived in.
“I know, right? It’s so big and nice looking.” You smile complimenting the exterior of the house. It looked newly built ( it probably was ) The house had two stories and was made out of brick.
Oh, and the grass was so green too!
“I’m glad you guys like it so much!” Aphmau smiled, admiring the new house she purchased with the help of her friends.
Katlyn looks at the house skeptically “Are you sure we can even afford this place?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” Aphmau replies immediately.
“What do you even do for a living?”
“Uh well-” aphmau stumbles on her words “It's a night job..”
Aphmau notices how Katlyn looked at her and tries to clarify. “I don’t want word getting around on where exactly I work… it’s a part of my contract.”
But Aphmau's vague answer doesn’t seem to satisfy Katlyn’s curiosity “That’s weird? Never heard of that before.”
“Trust me the whole job is weird.”
Both you and Kawaii~Chan look at each other, raising your eyebrows at the strange situation.
“Weird, how?” Kawaii~Chan asks.
You knew how nosy your best friend was. If she doesn't know the answer to something, she’ll ask millions of questions or unintentionally annoy them till she finds out.
“No comment..” Aphmau leaves the conversation at that.
“Wahhhh! You can't trust us?!”
Aphmau sighs, “Kawaii~Chan! You're the one who was snapping pictures of me and Aaron on the side! Of course, I don't trust you! But I'll live with you.”
“Aww, poo…” kawaii~chan pouts.
Katelyn chuckles “Heh, fine, keep it a secret. We live with you now, so we'll find out eventually.”
“B-but, Katelyn~Sama! Kawaii~Chan wants to know now!” Kawaii~Chan wines.
“Patience, Kawaii~Chan. Let's play Aphmau's game. If she's keeping it a secret, then this is gonna be good.” Katelyn gets one last snarky remark before walking inside the new house.
Aphmau looks baffled at Katelyn’s statement. “Uh.... okay...What did she mean by that?”
“I’m sure she’s just playing around?” You suggest but honestly, you had no idea what she meant by that either...
Granted, you didn’t know Katelyn that well.. heck you didn’t even know Aphmau that well either.. Your first time meeting her was last week to talk about the whole rent situation.
The only reason why you moved in with them was because Kawaii~Chan so kindly suggested you to aphmau as their fourth roommate knowing how desperately you wanted to move out of your brother's apartment.
It’s not that you hated your brother.. quite the opposite you adored him. But he’s already in the stage of his life where he has a child and a fiancé, you just didn’t wanna feel like you were freeloading off of them.
Kawaii~Chan nods in agreement with your suggestion “Oooh, you know Katelyn~Sama... she just likes to get in a snarky remark.”
“Anywho, Aphmau~Senpai! You should have the biggest room! Katelyn~Sama, Y/N-Chan, and Kawaii~Chan all agreed before we came out here, that since Aphmau~Senpai is paying more on rent, you should get the biggest room!” Kawaii~Chan explains excitedly.
Aphmau looks at Kawaii~Chan in surprise “Uh, what? No, no. Kawaii~Chan, I-I'm fine with whatever!”
“Nono you deserve it! You did all the work to find the house and you’d even let me live with you, without even knowing me well.. the least you deserve Is the biggest room,” you added, you wanted Aphmau to know that her having the biggest room is just a gift of gratitude from all of you for her for setting all of this up.
Aphmau looked genuinely touched by your words, and she placed a hand on your shoulder. Her eyes gleamed with gratitude, and her words were soft and sincere. “Thank you, Y/N, seriously. I appreciate your offer, but I truly don’t mind which room I end up getting. Plus, you’re a pretty cool person to hang out with, so I don’t mind you living with me.”
You smile at Aphmau, appreciating her kind words.
Kawaii~Chan lightly pushes Aphmau towards the house. “Now, go on and pick! Kawaii~Chan is going to be here to get her stuff down!”
Then Kawaii~Chan goes into the van and gestures for you to follow.. and you do.
Aphmau gives you and Kawaii~Chan one final grateful smile, before grabbing her stuff and heading inside the house. While you help Kawaii~Chan get the boxes out of the van.
You smile at Kawaii~Chan, taking out your first box from the van. “I can’t believe we’re living together! I’m so excited.. this is the first time I’m living without one of my siblings.”
Kawaii~Chan returns your smile, as she puts a box onto the ground too. “It’s such a huge upgrade from your old place.”
“I know! It was so cramped living with my brother and his fiancé.. it was nice— don’t get me wrong but I felt out of place. Y’know?” You explain trying not to come off as ungrateful towards your brother for even lending you his space.
Kawaii~Chan nods in understanding, her expression soft and empathetic. “Having personal space is one of the best things about moving out. But kawaii~Chan is sure your brother and his fiancé appreciated having Y/N~Chan around.” She chuckled, picking up another box. “Although, Kawaii~Chan is sure they needed some privacy too—”
Kawaii~Chan winked at you, giggling to herself.
You roll your eyes at your best friend, not wanting to think about the implications of her joke. “Though, I’m sure they never do with their son running around.”
“Oh yeah, kids can be quite the barrier when it comes to that.” Kawaii~Chan laughed in agreement, taking one of your last boxes out of the van.
While you pull one of your many paintings out of the van.
Kawaii~Chan smirked teasingly and glanced at the painting in your hand. “Ooh, is that another painting? Can Kawaii~Chan see?”
You hand Kawaii~Chan the painting, “Sure even though I’m sure, I’ve already shown you it before.”
Kawaii~Chan carefully takes the painting from you and inspects it closely. The expression on her face lights up as she looks at the art, and lets out a quiet ‘whoa’.
“Geez, Kawaii~Chan swears, how is your art always so good?! Like, Kawaii~Chan is pretty sure you’ve definitely shown her this painting, but no matter how many times she sees it, it never fails to impress her.”
You blush at your best friend's compliment. “you say that every time.”
Kawaii~Chan laughs in return and continues to admire the painting for a few more seconds, before handing it back to you. “Of course Kawaii~Chan does! She is not lying when she says you have a talent. Kawaii~Chan is serious, if you opened an art shop, you’d be rich in seconds.”
“It’s just a hobby.. y’know that! Plus I’d be way too shy to ever do something like that.”
Kawaii~Chan nods, knowing exactly how introverted you can be. You know she can't help but feel a bit worried about it since you have such a difficult time making friends or even socializing properly.
“Kawaii~Chan knows. But still, she wishes you were more confident. It would be so good for you if you put yourself out there a bit more, and maybe get yourself a man in the process?”
You scoff at your friend “Nana.. men don’t even notice me.”
Kawaii~Chan rolls her eyes, and gently punches your shoulder. “Men are just blind and have no taste, that’s the problem. You’re perfect! Well… except for you being a social recluse, that's a problem. But honestly, you’re a catch! Any guy would be lucky to have you.”
“Nana, that's really sweet..” you smile, getting the last of your paintings out of the van.
“Wanna check the house with me?” You ask
Kawaii~Chan shakes her head no, probably because she has a few more boxes to take out of the van. “You go ahead, Kawaii~Chan still needs to take care of a few things.”
“Kawaii~Chan, come to find you when she’s done here, so try not to get lost, okay?” She chuckled while wiping some sweat off her forehead.
“no promises!” You tease grabbing your boxes and paintings before heading inside the house.
⋆˙⟡♡
You place everything down in your room. It wasn't the biggest but it was more than enough to hold all your stuff.
You open your biggest box named “room decorations.”
It was mostly fake plants, posters, and tiny anime figures...
You had a massive collecting problem..
And that brings a dent in your wallet with your librarian salary...
You wouldn’t be able to set up any of your figures today because your desk and all your bigger items wouldn’t be here till later this evening...
You sigh just deciding to decorate your room with posters till then...
You pulled out a few of them from the box, most of them were posters from your favorite game series, Animal Crossing, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy..
You weren’t the biggest gamer.. You’ve always been more into books rather than games but you quickly got into those franchises once your sister introduced you to them.
Since your sister introduced you to games you in return begged her to read some books that you thought maybe she would love.
She agreed.. Even if it took a while, she ended up loving it.
Ever since then it’s been a tradition between the two of you to recommend each other video games or books.
You smile at the memory fondly.. reminding yourself to text your sister later about the move.
Suddenly you hear Katlyn’s crazy laugh running down stairs as Aphmau chases her.
You walk out your room to figure out what’s happening to only see Katelyn nowhere in sight and aphmau trying to catch her breath by the stairs .
You walk down the steps and you hear
Aphmau mutters “Geez, Katelyn, get back here! I- I swear, Katelyn, I just- ugh-”
You were about to ask Aphmau what happened exactly, only to be shocked by Kawaii~Chan's voice.. you didn’t see her in the kitchen.
“Aphmau~Senpai! Y/N-Chan let's go introduce ourselves to the neighbors! Come on!”
Aphmau lets out a groan, looking at Kawaii~Chan with slight irritation. Her jet, black hair is messy, and she looks out of breath and extremely annoyed.
“Y-yeah, sure, we can introduce ourselves.”
Aphmau sighs in defeat, before a small smile appears on her face. “But we’ll have to be quick, I think I need a mini break after all that.”
“But do we have something to give them?” You ask
Kawaii~Chan picks up a fruit bowl from the counter.
“Here, Kawaii~Chan has a fruit bowl. She only has one, so we can only meet one neighbor.”
“Uh, alright. I guess that's better than nothing. Come on, let's go.” Aphmau says before just leaving through the front door expecting yall the follow along.
⋆˙⟡♡
Aphmau points at a house
“Let's go over there.”
You look at many houses, they all look the same but slightly different but you guess that’s just how all suburban neighborhoods look.
“this whole neighborhood looks really nice!” Kawaii~Chan exclaims looking around in child-like wonder.
You smile at your friend's excitement and nod in agreement, “Every house here is so fancy..”
Aphmau nods, glancing at the houses she passes by, “Yeah… it looks better than what I expected. I guess we just picked the good side of the neighborhood, huh?”
Once you were at the front door, Aphmau stopped in front of it, and turned towards you and Kawaii~Chan.
“Alright… So who's going to ring the doorbell?”
Both you and Kawaii~Chan look at aphmau shaking your head no..
Aphmau does it with a sigh, The door opens behind her, and she turns to see a guy with black hair and green eyes at the door.
“Well well well. I didn't know cute girls were delivering pizza these days.” Your neighbor flirts with yall with a smile.. but it came off as more dorky than anything else.
“Are you serious? You live here, Brendan?” Aphmau sighs.
“You know this guy?”
You meant to say that softly towards aphmau but it was accidentally loud enough that everyone heard.
Brendan turns his head towards you, before turning back to Aphmau with a look that clearly says 'is she with you?’
Aphmau crosses her arms.
“Yeah… this is Brendan, he's a friend of mine and he’s also an idiot.”
Brendan rolls his eyes, clearly not amused by her statement. “Oh c’mon, don’t be rude, Aph. At least I’m a charming idiot.”
“Hahaha, um, no, anyway we actually just, uh, moved next door. Kawaii~Chan and Y—“
“BRENDAN~KUN! LONG TIME NO SEE!” Kawaii~Chan interrupts Aphmau, seemingly happy to see this guy.
“K-K-K-K-K-KAWAII~CHAN! I DIDN'T THINK Y-YOU WOULD BE—”
Then he faints..
You and Aphmau both jump a bit in surprise, not exactly expecting Brendan to suddenly just… fall on the ground. Aphmau quickly shakes off the shock, and crouches down next to him.
“Oh jeez, he just… fainted.”
Aphmau lets out a small huff, glancing at Kawaii~Chan.
You all turn when you hear noise and look across the street.
There was another moving van by the house across from you
“Huh? Uh, someone's moving in right across from us. The same day we are? What a coincidence! Come on, we should go say hi.” Aphmau suggest
“Maybe we should bring the unconscious man into his house first?” You look at the unconscious man on his own doorstep.
Aphmau looks down at Brendan’s still unconscious body, and her expression shows a hint of disbelief. “You’re right… We should probably get him in his house. I would hate for him to wake up on the ground, that can’t be comfortable.”
She stands up, and turns to you and Kawaii~Chan. “Can you guys help me out here? I’m way too weak to carry him on my own.”
You and Kawaii~Chan nod, and go over to Brendan’s body, each grabbing one of his arms and hoisting him up from the ground. You try your best to carry him into his house, though he’s pretty heavy.
You got him onto his couch .. and you caught your breath. This was definitely the most athletic thing you did all year.
“I hope he’s okay.. I’ve never seen someone just faint like that”
“Yeah, I hope so too. But knowing Brendan, he’ll probably be okay in a few hours? He’s a lot tougher than he looks… which is kind of sad.” Aphmau walks out of Brendan's house then turns to you.
Aphmau waves at you and Kawaii~Chan to follow her. “Come on, we can check on him later. Right now we have new neighbors to greet.”
⋆˙⟡♡
“Hey there, new neighbors. My name is Aphmau, and this is— Garroth?! Dante?! Laurence?! Uh—”
Aphmau looks at the mystery men in shock.
You're just shocked you’ve never seen such beautiful men before..
Well you have but only in movies, not in real life.
The first guy you laid eyes on, had the most striking appearance in your opinion.. He had medium-length, dark brown hair, and a captivating shade of blue or green you couldn't exactly tell.. but it really matched his tan skin!
Oh! And he was stylish too, wearing a sorta dark academia type of outfit.
The guy in the middle was a total hottie too!
He had a very noble appearance. Like he’d be a knight or as a prince in a fantasy novel? Maybe even both.
He had short neatly kept blonde hair that compliments his strong facial features. His eyes are very striking blue, and he was tall and muscular..
The last guy was cute too!
He had a more approachable appearance, He has longer dark blue hair but it looked more dyed then your roommate's more natural blue. That didn’t mean you hated his hair, you loved it actually! It reminded you of the emo hair you’d seen on tumbler.
His whole vibe just screamed “I’m in a band.”
Especially since he had so many piercings. You noticed a lip piercing, an eyebrow piercing, and from what you can see a few ear piercings also.
You blush a little.. shaming yourself for looking at these men like eye candy..
Your twenty-four for Irene sake!
Pull yourself together!
“Yo!” The guy with the dark academia vibe said to aphmau.
“Wow.. Do you guys just know everybody in this neighborhood?” You ask Kawaii~Chan but she just shrugs her shoulders without giving any clear answer.
“Hey, Kawaii~Chan. Let me ask you, do you think I'm handsome?” The guy with blue hair ask
“Huh? Why do you ask such a question?”
“Hm, just trying to prove a point.”
“Well, Kawaii~Chan thinks Dante~Kun is cute, but... she can't see her shipping you with Aphmau~Senpai or anything like that.”
“W-What!?” Dante looked shocked by Kawaii~Chan words and the other men just laughed.
“Told you he was no threat.” The brunette man gloats.
“D-don't you start with me!” Dante argues
Kawaii~Chan chuckles awkwardly “Speaking of shipping, uh, Kawaii~Chan has to go set up her... uh, never mind! Be back, and don't follow me! Especially you, Aphmau~Senpai!”
“Uh, well, that was weird.” Aphmau glances back at the road where Kawaii~Chan went down, a bit confused.
Aphmau turns back to the boys, and crosses her arms, giving them a bit of a frown. “So, why are you guys all here? This isn’t exactly where any of you live.”
“Now now, we can explain... you see, since you were moving, we... uh, decided to move as well! And uh... this place just so happened to catch our eyes, and uh... so we moved here! W-we had no idea you were moving here as well!” The man with brown hair rambles, refusing to make eye contact with Aphmau.
“Laurance, look me in the eyes. Are you lying to me?” Aphmau asks Laurance.
“Lie? To you? Pft, No, never! I mean, you know what, G-Garroth can answer that. GARROTH!” Laurance runs into the house, leaving Aphmau to walk up to Garroth with you in hand.
“Garroth.”
“Garroth, did you guys find out I was moving here, and decide to move here as well?” Aphmau ask again
“Y-Ye-NO! Dante was the one who moved us here because he was um... he set up the viewing this morning! YEAH! THAT'S IT! GO... TALK TO HIM!”
Garroth runs into the house too, just leaving you, Aphmau, and Dante..
“I— Garroth, Garroth! Ugh! Oh my gosh, rgh! I swear, these guys are just—” aphmau takes a breath “Fine. You know what, I will go talk to Dante. Dante!”
Dante walks over to you and aphmau with a smile, “Why hello there Aphmau” then looks at you “oh! And her very cute friend”
You blush at his compliment, not used to people, noticing you at all.
Aphmau scowls when Dante starts to turn his attention towards you, giving him a glare.
“Oh no you don’t. You’re not getting distracted. I’m not done talking to you. You’re going to give me a straight answer, right now, mister. “
Aphmau taps her foot on the ground with impatience.
Dante flinches, and holds his hands up in surrender, a nervous smile on his face.
“Okay, okay! Jeez, you’re intimidating when you want to be, you know that?”
Aphmau rolls her eyes, “Yes, I do know that. Now. No more distractions. Did you all move here because you knew I was moving here?”
“I did... you know why? Because I wanted to be next to the two most beautiful girls in the world.”
Dante blows kisses specifically looking at you and you feel like your heart is going to explode.
Aphmau rolls her eyes once again, becoming annoyed by Dante’s flirty tendencies. She glances over at you, and huffs a bit.
“Dante, stop it. You’re embarrassing Y/N…”
Dante chuckles, and shrugs his shoulders. “ Aww, come on. I’m just complimenting her. Plus look at her. She’s cute when she’s blushing, don’t you think?”
Aphmau’s expression deadpans, not amused by his words. “I see you’re being as persistent as usual. You know I'm not happy about this, right? I mean, you all just decided to move here, with no warning or anything, just because I’M here.”
“What can I say? I love looking at beautiful things.”
“Anyway I’m ordering pizza tonight, I’d love to see everyone there.” Then Dante looks at you with a smile “Especially you cutie! But seriously it's just going to be a nice housewarming party and a treaty for you not to kill me aph.”
Aphmau sighs, and pinches the bridge of her nose.
“Oh my gosh… Alright, alright. We’ll come, but keep your hands to yourself, got it? You can’t just flirt with Y/N. Or me, for that matter.”
Dante pouts a bit, and lets out an exaggerated sigh. “I can’t even flirt? Not even a little?”
Aphmau gives him a look, and crosses her arms.
“No. Absolutely not.”
Dante pouts a bit more, clearly not happy by the fact he can’t flirt. Before putting on his signature smirk.
“Aw, you’re no fun, you know that?”
Aphmau rolls her eyes yet again
“Yeah, and you’re a pain.”
With that you and Aphmau walked off back to your guys house..
Aphmau walks along with you, holding your hand as she gently rubbed her thumb against it.
“I’m so sorry about Dante. He can be so… annoying at times.”
“Nono it’s fine.. I’m just flustered..”
Aphmau nods her head, and gently squeezes your hand. “Yeah, I get that. Dante, and hell all the boys really, can be pretty flirtatious. They don’t know when to back off sometimes.”
“I’m sure most of them are only flirty with you though.. I mean you are very pretty” you suggest
Aphmau flushes a bit
“Oh, stop. You’re just saying that. And besides, I don’t think I’m that pretty… They don’t flirt because they think I’m pretty. It’s just because I’m a girl.”
After Aphmau words yall just silently walked the rest of the way home hand in hand.
⋆˙⟡♡
You ask Kawaii~Chan to help you pick out your outfit for tonight at Dante’s house.
She excitedly helped you, being more than happy to assist with anything to do with fashion. You and Kawaii~Chan sat on your floor with a few different outfits spread all across the carpet.
You wanted to find the most perfect outfit to wear to Dante’s housewarming party to make a good first impression.
You cringe about how silent you were earlier when you first met him.. He probably thinks you are so weird.
“So have you picked an outfit yet, Y/N~Chan?” Kawaii~Chan asks, her words break you out of your train of thought..
You liked all the outfits on the carpet but you didn’t think any of them were good enough.
“I don’t know which to choose.. I don’t want to make a bad first impression”
Kawaii~Chan picks up an outfit, and holds it up for you to see. It was a simple white dress with matching shoes and hairpins.
“You’re overthinking it, Y/N~Chan. Even if you wear your PJs to that party, kawaii~Chan guarantees the boys are just gonna think you’re as cute as always.”
“Nana, I’ve just never hung out with anybody besides you.. I’m just a little nervous”
Kawaii~Chan smiles, and sets the outfit back on the floor. She grabs your hands, and squeezes them gently. “Don’t worry, Y/N~Chan. It’s going to be fine, she promises . The boys are really nice. They won’t think anything bad of you! Besides, kawaii~Chan will be there the whole time!”
“you will?” You ask
Kawaii~Chan nods.
“Of course she will! You’re her best friend, kawaii~Chan wouldn’t just leave you by yourself.”
The two of you continued to go through your boxes, laughing to each other as you searched through the mountains of clothing.
“You have so many clothes, Y/N~Chan! Have you ever even worn half of these?” Kawaii-Chan picks up another piece of clothing.. and after inspecting it, she seems not to like it, she then throws it to the side of your room.
“Not all of them.. most of it is my sister's old clothes she didn’t want anymore..”
Kawaii Chan nods her head, a smile on her face.
“Makes sense. kawaii~Chan has a bunch of clothes she doesn't wear anymore too. But kawaii~Chan don’t think she has nearly as much as you do.”
Kawaii~Chan starts to go through a box in the back, pausing as she pulls out something.
“Oh~! What’s this?”
Kawaii~Chan holds up a black and white dress, and looks at it with a curious expression.
“Have you ever worn this, Y/N~Chan?”
“A few times.. I use to be obsessed with stripes back in highschool”
Kawaii~Chan laughs, holding the outfit up to you.
“kawaii~Chan can see why you look so cute in stripes. You should wear this tonight!”
“Really?” You replied
Kawaii~Chan nods her head, a big smile on her face.
“You look adorable in it! Try it on, go on!”
You go into your closet and put on your old dress.. With a few accessories you added. A red beret with some funky tights and a long brown boot!
You thought it gave tumblr girl vibes.
You walk out the closet and you hear your best friend clap her hands together and grins as she sees the finished outfit. She let out a small squeal.
“Cute! Adorable! You look amazing, Y/N~Chan!”
“I.. I do?” You questioned.
Kawaii~Chan nods her head again, her grin only growing.
“Definitely! You look super pretty!”
“I bet everyone love your outfit too, Nana” you says softly
Kawaii~Chan grins once again, and twirls around in her own dress.
“You think so? kawaii~Chan did try to look her cutest tonight.”
You loved, Kawaii~Chan style. It's so unique.
“and you did a great job!”
You hear a scream from down stairs. It definitely sounds like Katelyn.
“Hurry up! I’m ready to go eat, I'm starving!”
Kawaii~Chan giggles at Katelyn’s demand.
“Oh boy, Kawaii~Chan guessing someone’s getting a bit impatient.”
Kawaii~Chan grabs your hand, and leads you down the stairs.
⋆˙⟡♡
When you finished walking downstairs you saw Katelyn was wearing a red tank top with black shorts, and casual sneakers. Aphmau on the other hand, was wearing a black long sleeve crop top, and matching leggings with a pair of black combat boots. Both of them turn to look at the two.
“Oh, you guys look cute. Ready to go?” Aphmau compliments, gesturing towards the door.
Both you and Kawaii~Chan nod your heads, then the four of you leave outside to walk to the house next to yours.
When you get there aphmau knocks on the door.. The group waits for only a few minutes before Dante throws the door open, the same signature smirk on his face.
“There you all are! I thought you would never get here!”
Dante ushers you all inside, seemingly excited to spend time with you all.
When you're all inside the house you see Laurance and Garroth casually playing Mario kart. Once they noticed your presence they looked over their couch and smiled after seeing everyone but especially Aphmau.
Laurence and Garroth pause their game and get up from the couch, quickly moving over to greet the group of girls.
“Hey, you guys made it!” Garroth greets you all warmly
Laurence slings his arm around Aphmau’s shoulders, and smirks a bit. “It took you all forever to get here, we were starting to think you all were ditching us.”
“Nono, just some people took forever to get ready…” Katelyn says, looking at you and Kawaii~Chan.
Both you and Kawaii~Chan roll your eyes at Katelyn’s comment, giving her a look. The guys chuckle a bit, and Dante pipes up with a smirk.
“Well I think both of you look great. You took just the perfect amount of time to get ready!”
“oh um thank you?” You responded sorta hiding behind Kawaii~Chan.
Dante looks over at you, “Wait, now that I think about it, I never caught your name. Mind giving it to me, beautiful?”
“Y/N..”
Dante smirks and nods his head.
“That's a pretty name, Y/N. It definitely fits someone as cute as you.”
Dante notices Aphmau’s look, and just smirks at her, trying to get under her skin. Laurence seems to notice all this, and gently taps Dante on the shoulder.
“Dude, knock it off. You’re gonna piss her off again.”
Laurence turns to look at you, and gives you a smile. “Hey, I don’t think we ever properly met this morning. I’m Laurence.”
He gives you a small smile, and extends his hand out for you to shake.
And you accept it by shaking his hand..
It surprise you how firm his grip was
“it’s nice to meet you..”
Laurence gently lets go of your hand.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Y/N. Hopefully we’ll be able to make your first real hang out with us guys a good one.”
You nod in agreement..
Hopefully you do have a fun night tonight
laurance pushes garroth forward probably for him to introduce himself also.
Garroth gives you a quick, awkward smile
“Oh, um, hi. I’m Garroth. It’s nice to meet you, Y/N.”
“Same..”
Now that formalities were out the way Garroth asked the whole group a question “Since we’re all here, you guys wanna play Mario Kart?”
Kawaii~Chan smiles a bit, and gently pat you on the back. You two loved playing games together even if you both weren’t the best at it.
“Hell yeah. We’re totally gonna kick all three of your asses.” Aphmau started competitively.
Dante looks at all the girls, a smug expression on his face.
“Ha, as if that’s ever gonna happen! I know none of you can out race me.”
Laurence rolls his eyes at Dante’s comment, obviously disagreeing.
“Please, Dante. You get last in every match, there’s no chance you can beat any of us.”
“It’s true, bro. You almost always lose.” Garroth laughs, agreeing with Laurence.
“Oh whatever, all of you guys are just jealous of my Mario Kart skills. I could totally kick all of your asses if I wasn’t so nice and let you guys win.”
⋆˙⟡♡
You and Kawaii~Chan cuddle on the couch with a blanket. Next to you was Dante and at the end of the couch was Katelyn.
While Laurance, Garroth, and Aphmau sit on the floor with the Wii remotes.
“I’m not that good at mario kart..” you tell Kawaii~Chan.
Dante turns to look at you, and jokingly rolls his eyes.
“You'll be just fine. Trust me, the game is easy as crap. All you have to do is not crash, which really isn’t very hard!”
“but everyone says you suck at this game?” You questioned.
Dante looks at you with a fake offended look on his face, before laughing.
“First of all, rude. Secondly, that is not true! They’re all liars, don’t listen to them! I’m a Mario Kart legend!”
Aphmau throws a pillow at Dante.
“Dante, we all know damn well that you can’t race in Mario Kart to save your life.”
Laurence and Garroth burst out laughing, Dante just looked at them all with a pout, annoyed that they were all ganging up on him.
⋆˙⟡♡
You played Mario Kart for at least an hour, the game consists of constant screaming and yelling.
And occasionally Aphmau would flip off one of the guys if they beat her in a race and they typically didn’t..
She was like really good
Everyone had their main and there own playing style
Dante only played as Mairo because he said “Playing as the main character will get me plot armor” He explained to you and kawaii-Chan that’s the way to get first place..
But he constantly got last place.
Kawaii~Chan just played princess peach because she’s pink and cute. She didn’t really care about winning the game; she was there for the vibes.
Aphmau played Rosalina, and absolutely killed it.. the lowest she got was second place but consistently kicked everyone’s asses
And since she’s so competitive she wouldn’t let it go that she was in fact Mario Kart legend and Dante’s wasn't.
Katelyn played toad, she was also extremely competitive but not as bad as the rest but she constantly threw the green shells at laurance to piss him off.
laurance played Luigi, you were surprised on how competitive he was he seemed so laid back but no he constantly looked like he was one Banana peel slip away from throwing the controller across the room.
Garroth played Bowser, for the most part he was chill and actually gave you a few pointers on what you should do during the game. He was very helpful.
and you played Daisy cause you felt like she was underrated.
Though you feel like you didn’t do your girl justice cause you constantly got last place.. and often not even finishing the course.
Though you still had a good time playing with the others and watching them all get riled up over a simple video game.
Once the pizza came ( That Laurance very kindly paid for. ) Everyone started eating in their own groups.. Laurance and Garroth stay close to Aphmau eating on the couch, while Katelyn and kawaii Chan chat sitting at the table.
So that left you and Dante eating pizza together on the kitchen counter.
You sat on top of the counter criss-cross while Dante just stood.
You looked around the house realizing how furnished the house was already.
They had pictures on their walls, their tv set up, already built their couch and kitchen table and chairs..
It looked lived in versus your house it was still so empty in comparison.
“Your house is very furnished for only being here for less than a day.”
Dante looks at you and shrugs, taking a bite from his pizza.
“Eh, Laurence and I like things to be organized and clean, and I guess we also like our furniture, ya know? We might have just moved in, but all my stuff is from my apartment before that, and Laurence had most of his stuff from home before too.”
“What about the other guy?” You ask
“Garroth? Hah, you have no idea. That guy’s so damn picky with all his stuff and how things look. He was practically nitpicking everything Laurence and I were bringing in while we were moving everything in.” Dante rambles.
“I would’ve never guessed that he seems very chill? If not a little awkward.”
“Yeah, he’s a good bro, but when it comes to his stuff and his looks, he’s the total opposite. You should’ve seen his face when he saw a single scratch on one of his desks. He damn near freaked out! It was hilarious.” Dante snickers as he takes another slice of pizza.
You laugh “you all seem to know each other so well.”
“Well, we've all been friends since high school. The three of us just clicked, and became super good friends. The guys even let me move in the house with them when my old apartment got too expensive.” Dante chuckles a bit, taking a bite of his pizza slice.
“they seem like good friends”
Dante nods, setting his other pizza down.
“They’re the best friends I could ask for.” He takes a sip from his soda. “Hey, I realized I never asked, but how are you friends with the girls? I’ve never seen you around before…”
“Uh.. I know of aphmau and Katelyn through Kawaii~Chan.. she’s my best friend” you clarified
Dante looks surprised for a moment, but then smiles a little. “Oh, okay. So you and Kawaii~Chan have known each other for a while, I’m guessing?”
“Since college.. My sister was her dorm mate my freshman year and I would often crash there cause I hated my roommates.. Me and Kawaii~Chan got pretty close from there even after she graduated we still stayed in contact.” You explained
Dante nods his head, “Ah, I see.. I didn’t know you had any siblings.. Is she still in college, or is she out too?”
“Oh she’s my triplet.. She’s off living in New York with her best friend Ava” you stated
Dante raises an eyebrow at that, looking a bit amazed by your words. “Triplet, huh? Man, is it true that people who are triplets get some kind of weird triplet connection thing?”
You giggle “That be cool but no”
Dante chuckles a bit at that.
“ Damn, that’s a shame. I was hoping you could read each other's minds or something. That would’ve been cool as hell.”
“Sorry, it’s not as cool as you imagined. Total let down.” You joked, acting hurt by his words.
“You’re not a let down, I swear. I think you’re plenty cool, especially for a girl who supposedly sucks at Mario Kart.” Dante smirks at you, and leans in a bit.
“I got last place every round..” you lean in
Dante chuckles a little, and gently pats your head.
“Yeah you did, and honestly, it was hilarious. You do not have the skills to become a professional Mario Kart player, sweetheart.”
You place a hand on your chest acting wounded “Aww man.. my dreams of being a professional Mario kart player are crushed..”
Dante laughs again, amused by your response.
“Yeah, I’m so sorry to break it to you, but it wasn’t looking good for you. I’ll start a go fund me for you.”
“thanks, I need it desperately”
You look over at the other boys and Aphmau and they look downright obsessed with her.
They were truly in a whole other world with her..heart eyes and all.
“Wow.. those two are really into aphmau they have been hogging up her attention all night” you blurted, not meaning to say it out loud.
You place your hand on your face in embarrassment but Dante looks over in the there direction, and smirks a bit.
“You’re just noticing that now? It’s pretty damn obvious that those guys are in love with her. They keep fighting each other over her attention, and honestly, it’s pretty funny to watch.”
“Do you think she’s into them?” You ask curiously.
Dante shrugs, and looks back over at them.
“Honestly, who knows. She seems a little oblivious to their flirting most of the time. I honestly doubt she likes either of them, but with those two dumbasses fighting over her every chance they get, we might never know for sure.”
You hum in response leaving the conversation at that.
Dante pulls out a blunt and light it, gesturing to you if you want to try it but you simply shake your head no.
“oh.. I don’t smoke.”
Dante takes a puff from the blunt, and nods his head. “Ah, okay, that’s cool.”
He blows the smoke out into the air, and turns a bit to face you
“I’m guessing you probably don’t drink too, do you?”
“nope” you answer immediately.
Dante chuckles a bit, probably not finding it surprising.
“Damn, you’re pretty straight edge. So I’m guessing you don’t go to many parties then, huh?”
“never been too one”
Dante nearly chokes at your response, honestly looking stunned.
“Wait, seriously?! Goddamn, you really are straight edge. You’ve never been to a single party? At all?”
you shrug your shoulders “it’s not my scene..”
Dante nods his head, and takes another small puff from the blunt. “I get what you’re saying, but damn, never going to a single party ever seems a little excessive. Like, you should at least go to one, live a little ya know?”
You shake your head in disagreement “I’m very much living my life at home”
Dante smirks a bit, leaning forward so he’s facing you more.
“And what kind of life is that, huh? Never having any fun, never going to a single party? That’s a pretty dull life, sweetheart.”
“maybe for you.. I quite enjoy my life, it's peaceful” you counter his response.
“Peaceful? What, do you sit at home, watch tv all day, and knit or something?” Dante huffs a bit, and shakes his head.
You don’t look Dante in the eyes anymore, looking anywhere but him.
Dante bursts out laughing.
“Are you telling me you’re really like, little miss perfect? You actually sit at home and knit or something dumb like that?”
“It's not dumb..”
Dante snickers, and takes another puff from his blunt. He thought this was the funniest thing he ever heard.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, you’re right, it’s not dumb, it’s hilarious.”
Dante looks behind you and then taps a bit on your leg.
“Hey, hey, look at that. I think the girls are about to head out.”
You turn around and you see the girls getting their stuff to head out, so you get off the counter.
“Oh really? It feels like we just got here”
Dante nods in agreement “Yeah, I know what you mean. Time really does fly by when everyone’s talking, huh?”
“mhm, it really dose”
Dante looks back over at the other specifically garroth and laurance.
“Yeah. The guys are gonna be pretty bummed that they won’t get to drool over aphmau much longer.”
Dante jokes taking a final puff from the blunt.
“Well I’m sure they’ll see her soon. We are neighbors after all..” you say before turning to leave but turn back because you forgot to say something.
“Dante.. I had a lot of fun tonight talking to you”
Dante’s eyes widened a little at your comment, “Yeah, I had a ton of fun chatting to you too. You’re pretty cool.”
“Well.. see you later?”
Dante smiles at you one last time then nods his head.

Blushing Game
(Mystreet boys x reader)
How long does it take to make them blush?
Garroth
- bro folds almost immediately lmao
- He definitely tries!! After all, he was used to putting on a face in front of others back in O’Khasis. Surely this wouldn’t be too different
- But there’s no hiding things from you
- All it takes is one sweet nickname for him to start melting
Dante
- He… also tries
- He’s definitely more competitive than Garroth. A few of your first few flirts are only met with smug smiles and comebacks
- It only takes a minute or so for all the compliments to finally get to him
- He looks away as he tries to hide his red face from you
Laurance
- for a moment, you thought this man was nearly unbreakable
- Nearly all of your flirts end with him shaking his head and smiling back at you
- He tells you “try harder, love” and “aww you can do better than that”
- If anything, you’re the one that starts getting flustered
- You start to lean closer, whispering in his ear
- You tell him you love him, how much he means to you, how you can’t imagine loving anyone else
- The closeness, along with how sincere you are, is what finally gets to him
- He curses under his breath as he leans his forehead on your shoulder
- He mutters that he loves you too, just loud enough for only you to hear

MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
GARROTH
As someone who has always dreamt of being a guard, you didn’t exactly have the schedule of one.
After sleeping in for what seemed later than normal, your eyes quickly shot open as you remembered what today was.
Shit.
Your weekly training with Garroth was this morning.
As you quickly shot up from your bed, you ran around your house putting on the first pieces of clothing you could find.
After slipping over a plain tunic along with some boots, you swung open your door, slamming it behind you as you sprinted towards the training grounds.
As you passed through the town, many of the other villagers looked at you with amusement as you exhausted yourself on the way there. They had gotten used to watching you run late to almost everything.
Ever since you were younger, you had always aimed to be a guard.
Except, with the village guards being scarce and always so busy, you were never able to train. This was the very reason that got you rejected from the training program in O’khasis.
Of course, since things have been more and more easier under Lord Aphmau’s rule, the guards have increased, and with that, so has their availability.
After seeking out a guard to help train you, the Head Guard, Garroth, gladly accepted. Even though he himself learnt his sword-fighting in O’khasis, he always mentioned that it wasn’t required to make a good guard, and that all that mattered was the strength in one’s loyalty.
Since you met him from when he arrived, he always showed himself to be loyal.
Ever since then, your hopes have been raised.
It has been weeks since you began training with him, your sword-fighting skills increasing almost tenfold since the first day.
And yet one thing has never changed.
Your tardiness.
As arrived at the training grounds, you keeled over, hands on your knees as you breathed deeply. A disapproving Garroth watched from afar, smiling at the scene.
“Yet again you're late.” He noted, leaning against the guard tower.
“Yeah,” You panted. “No shit.”
He frowned at your response. “Watch your tone, we’re supposed to be prepping you to be a guard, remember? Guards do not speak that way.” As you finally caught your breath, you stood up straight, nodding. “Right… I’m sorry.” “Great.” Garroth pushed himself off the bricks, reaching for his sword. “Now, are you ready to begin our training that was supposed to start at sunrise?” He teased.
“Haha, very funny.” You sighed at the remark, reaching for the hilt of your sword… before finding it not there.
You frantically patted yourself down, quickly realizing that you had forgotten your sword at home.
“You know, I was waiting for you to notice.” Garroth chuckled. He motioned his head towards the guard tower. “Go grab an extra sword from the armory.” You groaned as you made your way over there, picking up a random sword.
As you made your way back over to the training grounds, you noticed Garroth watched you with a smirk.
All you wanted was to wipe that stupid look off his face.
As you took your position, readying your sword in front of you, you let your eyes focus on the trained knight before you.
This man had been trained amongst would be Jury Of Nine members, so of course he’d be tough to beat.
It wasn’t until he counted down that you brought yourself back to the present, focusing.
As the word “go” left his mouth, he rushed towards you, unrelenting on his force.
His first contact with your sword was strong, catching you off guard. You held your stance, pushing against his blade, causing him to jump back to regain his own footing.
“Nice defense, your hold is getting stronger.” He smirked, slowly circling you like a shark staring down its prey.
As it seemed he was going to keep taunting you, never truly moving towards you, you decided to take the opportunity to take the lead.
You rushed towards him, putting all your strength into the swing of your sword as it collided with his.
He held his stance, before you both pulled back, colliding your swords once more.
It wasn’t until you shared several more blows that you started to feel sweat pooling on your forehead. This singular match has gone on longer than your usual time, so it wasn’t surprising that your muscles started to ache in response.
Out of nowhere, Garroth swung his sword with all his might, causing your own blade to go flying off towards the bushes behind you.
As you fell to the ground, the blonde stood above you, holding his sword towards your throat.
“You need to work on your grip.” He heaved, before sheathing his sword, offering his hand out to you with a smile.
That’s when you thought of something devious.
You swept your leg under his, causing him to fall on top of you with an “Oof!”.
“And you should work on your stance.” You giggled.
Garroth adjusted himself, his hands caging you in on both sides of your shoulders. As he took notice of your current position, he paused, just looking at you in the eyes.
You couldn’t help notice just how beautiful his cerulean eyes were. You were so lost within the blue that you didn’t notice how his pupils dilated, his position above you growing stiff.
It was then that his eyes wandered down to your lips, almost watching them impatiently.
With that, you practically couldn’t stop yourself from looping your arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
As the two of you sat in silence, it wasn’t long before Garroth spoke.
“Can… Can I kiss you?”
A sense of wonder filled his eyes as he watched your expression switch into one of joy.
You smiled, slightly tilting your head. “Yes.” When he kissed you, it felt like all pieces of a puzzle were finally connected. With his lips locked against yours, you savored the feeling as much as possible.
He pulled back for a breath for only about five seconds before diving back to kiss you once again.
His lips hurriedly pressed against yours as if the two of you were running out of time and his goal was to taste your lips on a dying breath.
As if a knee-jerk reaction, you slowly moved your hands from around his neck to his hips, pulling his lower half closer. Garroth couldn’t help but groan at the friction.
His face was flushed, tinted pink all the way to the tips of his ears.
As you lay beneath the blushing blonde, it wasn’t long before your perfect moment was interrupted.
“Sir Garroth! Come quick! Kiki’s animals got loose and-”
The two of you whipped your heads around to see a dirtied Dante, covered in hoove marks and mud, looking at you both all flustered.
He quickly brought his hand to his face, covering his eyes. “Oh my- uh, nevermind! I’m sorry to interrupt-” He stuttered as he began to quickly rush away.
Garroth stumbled off of you, rolling over in the grass before stumbling as he went to chase after Dante “W-Wait! It’s not what it looks like!”
You couldn’t help but giggle at the guard’s reaction to being caught, catching his attention.
He turned around, puffing his cheeks. “Don’t think you’re getting away from this!” He yelled, before giving you a soft smirk. “I’ll swing by your house later this evening to continue where we left off, okay?”
And with that, he ran after the younger blue-haired knight.
Now it was your turn to flush, as your mind conjured up several images within your mind that left not much to the imagination.
And you just couldn’t wait.

LAURANCE
Who in Irene’s name suggests training in the middle of the woods?
As you made your way through the shrubbery, pushing aside all sorts of branches and leaves, you kept asking yourself if you were going the right way.
When you left the gates of Phoenix Drop earlier in the day, you felt something in your stomach twist. Perhaps it was a bad omen as to your situation now?
The training area Laurance had told you to meet at was somewhat northwest of the wall, in a clearing in which you could see the ocean.
As if such directions would be easy to follow within an overgrown forest such as this!
He had originally suggested it in an empty area so the two of you “could have no distractions”, which in hindsight, you seriously should have doubted more. That charmer of a man always had ulterior motives.
The brunette himself had gone ahead of you earlier in the day, saying he’d set up the area with equipment and some rations.
Why the hell did you let him go ahead of you?!
As you continued to stumble over tree roots and unforeseen rocks, your eyes eventually caught sight of the ocean.
You had to be close!
You continued to trudge forward, your new boots practically covered in dirt. As you made your way into the clearing, you saw Laurance polishing his sword, his hair tied up into a small ponytail.
While you approached him, you stepped on a twig, alerting him of your presence.
“Took you long enough.” He smirked, raising his head to look at you. “For a minute I was beginning to think you stood me up.”
You scoffed, taking off your satchel and placing it next to what seemed to be the bag of rations he had brought. “Maybe I would have gotten here sooner if someone had at least made it more obvious where this “secret” area was.”
“You do know what the word secret means, do you not?” He chuckled. “And besides, I’m sort of glad you had to stumble through the woods by yourself. I mean, just look at the state you’re in right now!” He held back a laugh, covering his mouth with his hand as he pointed at you.
You quickly looked around your clothes, seeing countless spots of dirt littered across it, before patting your head to find leaves scattered amongst your hair. You picked out as many twigs from your hair as you could before finally dusting yourself off.
You swung your head back towards his direction with a pout. “I can’t stand you.”
He smiled at the comment, before standing up with his sword in hand, throwing away the cloth he used to polish the blade beforehand.
“So, are you ready to face the all mighty, powerful Laurance?” You guffawed at the comment. “My, it seems you're even more full of yourself than usual.” You unsheathed your own blade in response.
As the two of you began to circle the area, an unspoken commencement of the training between you two, you kept distance from the brunette as you surveyed his moves.
You kept watching his stance, waiting for an opening, until out of chance his foot slipped up just slightly.
Perfect.
You lept towards him, raising your blade above your head before bringing it down with such might that even he was surprised.
He blocked it easily, sure, but his stance was still unstable. Your first move had caused him to move his feet to re-adjust himself.
A great play indeed.
Your eyes watched as he let his feet move back.
He must have sensed your motives, as his eyes followed yours to his feet. Of course, being the trained guard he was, he wasn’t about to just let you defeat him so easily from a minor slip-up.
The Shadow Knight decided to turn the tables on you, swooping beneath your own feet, causing you to slam into the ground.
He followed you soon after, pushing his sword against yours whilst on top of you. Your eyes trailed over his body, trying to find a weak spot to escape your soon defeat.
Soon, your eyes landed on the side of his lower abdomen, and your foot instinctively kicked him, causing him to fall off to the side.
You took the chance and jumped onto him, your knee pinning down the arm in which he held his sword, with your own blade aimed at his neck.
As you straddled his waist, pinning him down by your blade, you couldn’t help but breath heavily.
“I won.” You smiled, watching as his light blue eyes never left your own. “I won!” You repeated, only this time cheering.
He smirked as you took pride in your victory. “Really? Because right now it really feels like I won.” His eyes wandered, looking you up and down.
You couldn’t help but slightly flush, realizing the position the two of you were in. “You know I can slit your throat if I wanted to, right?” “And yet you don’t seem to be doing it.” He smiled smugly. “Seems to me that you might care for little ol’ Laurance.”
You rolled your eyes as you sheathed your sword back within your scabbard. “In your dreams.” You responded, before turning to get off of the knight.
That was when he grabbed your hand, pulling you flush against him, before he rolled you both over; switching your positions.
As he towered over you on the ground, he brought his hand to your cheek, cupping it gently, before whispering your name.
Your face flushed, the color change obvious enough for Laurance to notice with a smirk. He began to lean down, closing in the proximity between the two of you.
Before simply plucking a stray leaf from your hair.
“You missed a spot.” This. Asshole.
The look of disappointment seemed to have shown as your face, as his smug grin grew even wider. “Hm? What’s wrong? You look a bit frustrated.” He teased, basking in the fruits of his actions.
You puffed your cheeks, sighing. “You know, if you’re thinking about doing something, just go ahead and do it instead of humiliating me.”
A confused look spread across his face before he smiled again, leaning closer to you. “So you do want me.”
“Shut up and kiss me already.”
It took only a moment for that to process in his brain before he swooped in and planted his lips upon yours.
Your heart fluttered as you felt Laurance battle to take the lead. His lips almost fight against yours as if you were dueling once more.
At some point, you decided to just let him win, seeing as you beat him in your duel.
That’s when he turned you over, both of you laying on your sides as his hands flew to grip your hips. The action caused you to let out a gasp on Laurance's lips, which he took as an opportunity to let his tongue explore. His knee popped up in response, placing itself between your thighs.
You felt like you were going to die. From the way he kissed you, to the grip he had on your hips, and the friction he was causing between your legs? Oh my Irene, it was incredible.
As he pulled back to take a breath, you suddenly realized the two of you were outside… anyone could see you.
But your worries were quickly assuaged as you realized… This place was secret after all.

Caught a Vibe!
Wanted to write some headcanons to boost my motivation for drabbles so enjoy!
Minecraft Diaries vs Suprise kisses from reader!
Feat: Garroth, Laurance, Zane, Vylad, Gene, Jeffory, and Cadenza
Info: G/N Reader.
pre established relationships, Zane and Gene sure are themselves lol. Pretty much just fluff. Reader instead of Aphmau in all except for Jeffory, Zane and Gene. Abby is around 5-6, Sasha and Zoey were supposed to be in this, but I got bored of this one and wanted to get it out- if yall want more or I randomly decide to write a part 2 on my own they will be the first ones in it i promise.
Warnings: (I know i said mostly fluff but im sorry) Zane is for sure his own warning but there is mentions of Jeffory's murder in his part and a implication of threatening reader in the past. Genes also not great, his reader is a little naive and he a little frames them. His powers are used but not against reader.
Requests are still open and enjoy under the cut!
Tumblr media
Oh, Garroth, sweet, sweet Garroth.
He thinks he's so subtle, but he is not.
Your lovely boyfriend is so starved for affection but so unwilling to ask for it.
He thinks it would be improper being a guard... or at least that's what he says, but it surely stems from his affectionless household.
you catch him sometimes watching your hands or his gaze moving to your lips for only a moment.
It's incredibly endearing. And gives you an *incredibly* devious idea.
really, can you be blamed for Garroth being so fun to tease? He's such a pearl clutcher!!
Patrol reports are boring. you fully understand why they need to happen. But there's never anything to report yet. Somehow, your lovely guards can take 20 minutes to describe *nothing* .
and that's where you sit, listening to Garroth go on about the state of the forest surrounding Pheonix Drop. Turning to you asking if you have anything to add. before doing it *again* .
Crystal blue eyes looking to your lips for just a moment before they are averted.
oh, he makes it too easy.
with a simple smirk, you lean across the table to kiss him.
He goes unbelivably stiff for a moment in his shock before positivley *melting* when your hand moves to cup his warm cheek.
He lets out something between a small whine and a groan when you deepen it, His kiss is soft and sweet, with just an edge of desperation. One hand moving to cradle the back of your head a silent plea for you not to pull away just yet. eliciting a small chuckle from you.
but eventually, it must come to an end. And when you pull away, he chases after your lips for a moment a lovesick haze in his eyes, as if the entire world outside of *you* has fallen away from him. A look that warms you from the inside out and reminds you just how much you love the man in front of you.
'No nothing to add,' you coo softly before fully pulling away, looking to your other two guards. Dantes eyes wide and mouth parted, Laurances eyes were wide as well but there was a sense of amusment to it.
You cheerily excuse yourself, letting them know you will be working on some upgrades for the Plaza if they need you. Leaving behind a sputttering malfunctioning Garroth who crashed back down to earth.
You really will be the death of him.
Tumblr media
He's just so handsome.
And his cooking smells so good, His voice is so smooth as he talks about the dish he's making, and you're so in love with the man in your kitchen.
Your relationship is already so affectionate, but will you ever really be satisfied?
You're so busy watching him and fanaticizing you dont even notice that he's stopped cooking to talk to you.
'Hey, you with me?' He asks with a chuckle, snapping you out of the daze.
You look at his slightly crooked smile, giving him a slight smirk, giving you a mischevious idea of your own. His eyebrow raises as he notices the new look in your eye.
You surge forward to kiss him, His eyes widen in slight surprise before closing and leaning further into you. But just before he can move his hands to hold onto you and deepen the kiss, you pull away. He looks down at you with a mixture of amusement and confusion one hand on your hip....
You stare into marble blue eyes for a few moments. Before lifting his hand off your hip so you can dash away laughing, the shout of 'Hey!' and the stove turning off lets you know he's in chase.
'What was all of that about?' he asks, giggling himself as he sets your feet back on the ground.
Even with your head start, you only get halfway down the stairs of the hill to the platform before you feel arms wrap around your midsection, hoisting you in the air and spinning you around with a triumphent shout. Laying quick kisses all over the side of your face as you laugh.
You just let out a contented sigh and turn your head to kiss him for real. Sweet and tender and full of giggles when you remember his shout as you ran.

Being the spouse of the high preist of O'khasis is certainly....interesting.
you know he cared for you in... some real extent. After all, he went through a lot of effort to ensure your engagement. Sabatoging your other suitors and persuading your parents.
That wasn't all it took to convince you. You're not dumb and know of the vast political advantage he gained from marrying you. You were the hier of a village that rivaled Scaleswind in size. If you were dumb you doubt Zane would hold you in any regard.
But Zane does have small moments that convince you that you mean more than just a political pawn.
You still share a bed. You knew no matter what, you would need to share a room to keep appearances, but if he didn't want you in the bed, you were certain you wouldn't be in the bed.
Most nights, you were already asleep when Zane went to bed. but sometimes you would wake up in the middle of the night, and his arm is draped over your side.
He also can be affectionate at times, mostly in public... but there are times in private his hand will find yours, or a quick kiss will be placed to your temple, hand, cheek or very occasisonally the corner of your mouth.
And in a twisted way. You had to care to make threats.
it wasn't anything overt. It was a meeting for the jury of nine. You were seated on the armrest of his throne at his behest. Which wasn't too odd. Whenever Zane saw the opportunity for a power move, he took it. and you still dont know who it was against. The audience he held... or you.
You're stuck staring at the Corpse of Jeffory the Golden Heart laying on the carpet. Zanes pitch black sword still stained with the fathers blood, tossed onto Zanes desk as he makes his way back to his throne.
He pulls you into his lap as he sits. Arms wrapped around your waist and chin resting on your shoulder.
'Let this be a lesson to the rest of you.' He looks around at the rest of the Jury of....well.. Eight gathered. 'This is what happens to those who betray me.'
His arms tighten around your midsection after that.
It's been a while since then. It's getting late, but as usual, Zane is at his desk going through paperwork. The sound of quill on paper and the crackling of the fire makes this moment feel peaceful.
You don't really know what possesed you to do this, maybe the soft light of the fire off of your husbands cheekbones in his rare moments without the mask.
That is what most makes you feel most like he cares for you.
Getting to see the freckles dusting across his light baby face. A view reserved just for you.
'Yes Lamb?' Zane speaks up, making you jump out of your thoughts. He hasnt moved his gaze from his paperwork.
You steel your resolve and get up from your spot, walking to your husbands side, He turns his head to look up to you, one eyebrow raised. Icy blue eyes bearing into you.
'Just heading to bed,' you mummer, leaning down to press a feather light kiss to the corner of his mouth. 'Good night'
you pull away pretending not to notice the way Zanes face flushes the darkest shade of red you have ever seen. And his eyes are wide in suprise.
It's actually pretty adorable, but you know it would take quite a turn if you pointed this moment out.
you go to leave the room when you feel his hand grip onto your wrist.
'Someones feeling *bold* tonight.'

Your boyfriend never really grew out of the whole 'Dissapearing act hide in the trees' thing. Even in times of peace, he goes off to watch and brood.
You suppose you can't blame him. He's been through a lot and is still constantly working towards... welll whatever his goal is. He's pretty elusive about it, but you trust him implicitly despite his insistence. You should be more cautious.
But you feel at some point that it has to be unhealthy to live amongst the trees, stewing on past atrocities rather than fostering genuine connections with people. Something you won't let stand.
'Vylad! Vylad, come on, it's time for dinner!' You call walking through the woods, trying to lure your elusive lover out.
He does not come out immediately, but you can tell you're being watched. The tell tale Goosebumps and raise of unease in your chest, The Feeling of a rabbit being stalked by a wolf and the silence of the forest confirms to you that its a Shadow knight.
You let out a huff as you immeaditly clock the game he's playing.
Vylad likes to test your survival skills from time to time. Letting people in was hard for him. A million times more difficult with the romantic context between you. Sometimes, he needed to assure himself you weren't going to do something stupid and die.
'Fine! But this isn't tag this time! I promised Levin and Malachi we would be eating dinner with them and I don't want the food getting cold' you shout out, knowing full well if Vylad had his way he would be slipping around until either you physically restrained him or he took pity on you.
So you get to work hunting through the trees. Actively going towards what causes all your instincts to scream in protest.
You grip onto the tree and swing around to meet his Pine green eyes, looking back into yours.
'A real enemy isn't going to stick in one spot because you have dinner with your sons.' Vylads voice is muffled behind his scarf as you give him a deadpan.
You reach forward to loosen his scarf just enough to free his mouth.
He instantly assumes you just didn't hear him properly and goes to repeat himself. But you press your lips to his before he can... Vylad always takes a moment, surprised that you'd want to kiss him no matter how many times you have. But he always becomes incredibly passionate, kissing you like it could be the last time.
When you finally part for air that... one of you needs much more than the other. Hands still gripping his scarf, you reply.
'Yes, I know, and Im *very* greatful you did tonight now come on they are waiting' you laugh tugging him along with you back to the village.

Being with Gene means accepting that you never really know when he's gonna drop by, He is fond of you... that's the word he uses. But of course, his plans will always come first.
So, he kinda pops in and out of your life at random, spends Irene knows how long with you, then leaves for Irene knows how long again.
Rinse and repeat.
So you've learned better than to wait around for your hell born partner.
And today you need to go on a trip to the market.
You dont actually live in a Village, you live in a cottage a fairly short walk away from Nahakra.
You make sure to only bring enough coin for what you need and decide to get a covered basket to carry it in that you could keep hooked around your elbow. Trying to minimize the chance of being targeted by any members of the Thieves' Guild. And then you head out!
The walk and most of your shopping goes without a hitch!... the keyword is most.
You had been looking at some blueberries at a stall, You had read about a blueberry tart recipe and wanted to try it out, but with the addition of lemon. Unfortunately, blueberries need much more acidic soil than your plants could handle, so the market was your only go-to.
What's worse is that you apparently weren't early enough because all of the blueberries either were under or overripe, and the ones that were good enough for you to consider taking were way out of your price range.
With furrowed brows and a huff as you stare at the price before putting down the small carton to get your last few items. You're halfway to reaching a new stall when you hear shouting
'STOP you, little Theif!' Well. It is the capital of the Theives Guild. You dont pay it any mind.... until you feel someone harshly grip your wrist and yank
you squeal and grab the wrist of the Stall owner, holding you, trying to pry your arm free from his crushing grip all the while he is screaming obscenities and accusations at you.
Apparently, the blueberries you had been scrutinizing went missing, so he assumed you must have done it.
He's shouting about what the guards will do to you, that you'll be lucky to keep your hands all the while you try to defend yourself. Insist that you didn't do it, but he's ignoring you.
'No one stole anything.' The stall owner goes silent, Gene in the villages armor... somehow? He has one arm over his shoulder and his other hand pressed against the mans forehead, his voice eerily calm. 'You were straightening out your stall, and you knocked the carton over, remember?'
The stall owners eyes are empty. Completely devoid of original thought as he nods, slowly slurring out a yeah.
'Exactly' Gene continues, taking his hand away from the mans face, light slowly reappearing in the vendors eyes as he does.
You always have to suppress a shiver in your spine seeing Gene use his Magicks.
'Now, don't you think you should give this *poor* civillian a apolagy?' He finishes, his arm tightening around the other mans shoulder .
You start to protest, but the man hurriedly apolagizes as genes arm tightens once more,
'You accept that?' Gene asks you. You nod in response, feeling relieved when he lets the vendor go
'There we go all fixed, now why dont you head back to your stall huh?'
It always amazes you how Gene can sound so polite yet so... threatening. The man wisely chooses to run back to his stall.
Gene smirks at you when you're both alone again.
'Wow, theiving, huh? Didn't think you had it in ya Doll' he starts walking away, leaving you stammering for a few moments before you jog to catch up.
You insist you didn't do it, causing him to laugh and pull out the very carton of blueberries from his bag, much to your shock and horror.
'Yeah I know' he hums handing you the offending fruit 'Honestly those prices were *criminal* someone needs to put a stop to that man' he laughs as if he didnt nearly get you arrested???? The audacity???
You proceed to ask him what the *hell* is wrong with him??? You knew he was a criminal, but you had to *live* here! You nearly got dragged to the guards over blueberries!
The man has the *Gall* to look offended, leaning over, so he's at head level with you
'Really Y/N im hurt, I get you those little blueberries you clearly wanted so bad, *and* swooped in and saved you with that guy back there and this is how you repay me??? Not even a thank you for your *Knight in shining armor* Tsk tsk'
You are feeling a mixture of emotions, annoyance, the urge to appease, ..... and a strange warmth. For better or worse, this is the man you fell in love with, horrendous quirks and all.
You lean over and press a chaste kiss to his lips and mummering a small thank you.
He blinks a few times in suprise before smirking wide to egg you on or tease when he notices you rubbing the wrist that man had grabbed, while not bruised it was certainly discolored and sore.
His already lightless eyes darken...
Irene help that mans soul.

Having just arrived home from the market, you watch from the doorway smiling wide.
Jeffory and Abby are in the den playing pretend with swords. Abby is wearing a hood to show she's the villain shouting out and attacking her father.
You loved moments like these, where the Jury of Nine didn't need your fiancée and you all could just be a normal family together. No expectations or glaring preists looming over you.
Your broken out of your thoughts by Jeffory letting out a shout, holding the sword between his arm and side as if hes been stabbed, dramtically leaning backwards slowly and dropping to his knees monolouging about how evil would never win and he would find a way to save the kingdom even in death before fully laying down on his back and letting his head plop to the side with a dramatic groan.
you can NOT help but laugh at this, You love this man, but he is a SHIT actor, and... the idea of a Jury of Nine member defeated is kinda funny, even if it was just pretend.
That alerts both of them to your presence, Jeffory cracking open one sage green eye suprised, but smiles wide moving to get up and help with your basket when Abby whacks him in the head with a sword
'Gah- Hey!! Abby, not nice!'
'You're supposed to be dead! Lay Down!'
After a quick chastizing about using her words, he does as she asks, After all, he's never reeaalllly been able to say no to her.
She gets back in character, laughing manically and saying the kingdom will finally be hers! Then, walking away from her father laughing all the while
You're getting very caught up in the drama when Abby tosses off her hood and then walks back over to Jeffory's 'body' to gasp in horror
'No!! Sir Knight!!' She cries promising to go and get help when her eyes *lock* on you.
uh oh
She runs over to her toy box and brings you a toy crown whispering to you to put it on.
You obviously do, duh.
' Your Majesty!! Your Majesty!! Sir Knight needs your magical healing powers!! Hurry before it's too late!!' she calls, grabbing your hand with her little one to pull you over to where your fiance lays on the floor.
you hold back a chuckle as you kneel on the floor next to him. " Oh, Poor Sir Knight, I see what you mean, Miss Ah -"
Abby opens her mouth to share whatever wildly elaborate name she has setled on for the game when there is a knock on the door and the muffled shout of one of the neighborhood children.
'Abby!! Abby!!! We are playing pick-up sticks, and the winner gets a sachel of candy! come play!!'
double uh oh
There's a LOUD gasp from the girl next to you. Giant puppy eyes pointed to her father, letting out a series of high-pitched pleases.
he huffs, shaking his head lightly but letting her know she can go but to be back before the sun starts setting.
She runs off , and Jeffory gives a light-hearted eye roll at the attention span of kids moving to sit up when you gave him an amused look.
"I thought you were dead, Im supposed to revive you"
He looks at you with a mixture of confusion and amusment.
you lean down to kiss him, his eyes widening in realization and excitment.
his hands wind into your hair, cradling the back of your head, entrapping you in a loving and passionate kiss.
you cradled his face in your hands in turn, reluctantly turning away when your lungs started protesting, panting for a few moments before chuckling at him.
"Healed you~ Now come on, help me put away the produce," you coo to him, standing up and heading over to your basket, hearing him rushing over to you.
he is just insaciable <3

You always made sure to have Cadenza accompany you when traveling to Metelli.
Not only for her to visit her father and friends, but because your favorite activity with each other can only be done in her home village.
A short walk from Metelli is a HUGE lush wild flower field.
The very same fields that Cadenza used to frequent before you met.
Always setting aside a afternoon if not a day of your trip to devote to your girlfriend and the flower fields, Picnics, exploring, finding flowers that remind you of the other most, making flower crowns, and to end it all off lying in the field together.
Sometimes, you accidentally find yourselves waking up there the next morning, breaking out into hushed giggles and sneaking back to your group.
You're both sitting down in the flowers, fruit sandwiches rest on napkins at your sides, Cadenza carefully crafting a very intricate flower crown while you read your book aloud to her.
Some fantasy novel you're only half paying attention to, Irene your girlfriend is so pretty. it's no wonder that a village nearly went to war over her, Irene knows you would.
That's the thought that led you to stop reading and just watch her, waiting for her to look up from her craft.
She does after only a few moments, confused and ready to ask why you stopped when you rush forward, giving her a sweet yet quick kiss.
With that out of your system, you look back to your book to continue reading to her.
Cadenza has other plans though, after processing the pleasant suprise she squeals loudly and launches forward, pratically tackling you to the ground and peppering your face in quick adoring kisses, the type you can feel her smile through, full of laughs from both you.
Only after every inch of your face has been sufficently kissed does she properly connect your lips, Her long firey hair curtining over you, completely surrounding you in *her*
And there is no place you would rather be <3

The cold of the wedding band was a stark contrast to the hand that put it on his finger. Your hand was warm, soft. Laurance found himself tangling his fingers with yours, holding onto the comfort and joy of the moment.
He hoped—prayed—that one day the wedding band would be a comfort, too.
“Irene has brought these two souls together. It is with her guidance that the couple standing before us has found the courage to hold each other no matter what comes their way.”
Laurance did the same to you. He picked the silver band from its box and put it on your finger with care. Your gaze had been lowered to watch the action, but when you lifted it there was a smile caressing your features that was brighter than any sun or blessing Laurance had ever seen.
He couldn’t help but give you one of his own, and he intertwined your fingers in a way to hold you closer.
“Legend says that Irene split her soul to give her lover eternal life, so he could stand by her side no matter the cost. We have no proof of this, however it is evident that the relationship shared between Laurance and Y/n is one that has been blessed by the Divine. One that will withstand the trials fate may have in store for them.”
A chuckle left your lips as your lover tried—and failed—to tear the silk fabric on the table in two. His eyes flicked to yours and he found himself laughing as well, complying when you gently took the fabric from his hands.
“Turn it,” you said, and when you did Laurance found it to be much easier to rip the white fabric. Together, the two of you tore it into two pieces. As your lord kept talking, you tied the ends together before handing it to her.
“Let this silk represent the strings of fate that connect these two.” Laurance took your hands in his, his thumbs rubbing soft circles across your knuckles as Lady Aphmau looped the fabric around your joined hands. “This silk will serve as Irene’s blessing on this marriage. It is with this tie that the people of Phoenix Drop . . . the people of Phoenix Drop . . .”
Aphmau stuttered, laughing to herself as she struggled to tie the fabric around yours and Laurance’s hands. She wasn’t new to her duties as lord, but she had never officiated a marriage before. Tying the knot in the way she had been shown was proving to be more difficult than she imagined.
Another laugh slipped past your lips as Garroth approached the altar. He was without his armor and helmet, a rare sight to see. Garroth reached out to guide Aphmau’s hands, effortlessly tying the knot and joining yours and Laurance’s hands.
Aphmau mumbled a brief thanks to him before clearing her throat and continuing. “As I was saying. It is with this tie that the people of Phoenix Drop wish you a happy, prosperous marriage. May Lady Irene take favor with your love and never let you go hungry. May you face minimal hardship, and may your union bring about the hope of joy in the lives of many.”
Aphmau draped another fabric—this one sheer and light blue, the color of the village—over your hands. Laurance’s hands stilled against yours. Instead, he held onto you with a steadfast grip, his hold on you unrelenting and sturdy.
“With the power that has been trusted in me as Lord of Phoenix Drop, I bind this marriage. Laurance Zvahl of Meteli, do you swear to promise yourself to your wife? Do you swear to hold her throughout life, no matter the difficulty you may face?”
Laurance smiled at you, his celestine gaze unwavering. “I do.”
Aphmau repeated the vows to you, turning her head to face you. There was a smile on her face as she spoke to you, asking if you would promise yourself to the conditions marriage posed.
You nodded, uttering a breathless, almost disbelieving, “I do.”
Aphmau bowed her head and took a step back. “Then I, Lady Aphmau of Phoenix Drop, give you my blessing. You may share your first kiss as husband and wife.”
Lotus petals—the flower of Irene—were thrown in the air. The sound of cheers and clapping were drowned out as Laurance kissed you with an unbridled passion and excitement you’d never seen him show before. He slipped his hand out of the knot, out from under the sheer fabric, to reach up and cup your face.
“You’re beautiful,” he mumbled into the kiss, hardly giving you a moment to breathe before his lips were pressed against yours again.
The day was cloudless and you were the picture of perfection against the cerulean sky. Laurance could think of no better atmosphere to get married under, and he hoped the rest of your marriage would bring about the same feeling he felt that day.
He refused to leave your side during the following celebration. He watched his sister and father welcome you into their family with open arms. Cadenza kissed your cheeks and Hayden placed a crown of white lilies on your head—an old tradition in the village of Meteli. Laurance smiled at the sight, pressing a brief kiss to your temple.
“And this is for you,” Cadrnza said once Hayden had gone. She handed you the box she had been holding.
“What is it?” you asked. It was tied with a green ribbon, and you held the end of it between two fingers, poised to open it.
Cadenza gently set her hands on yours, stopping you. “A little surprise for later.”
She winked at you and your eyes widened in embarrassment. You spared a glance to Laurance and found that his cheeks were red, though you weren’t able to look at him long.
Laurance cleared his throat. “Cadenza, that’s hardly appropriate.”
“Get your mind out of the gutter, Laurance,” Cadenza scolded. She rolled her eyes, pushing her long hair behind her shoulder. “My little brother just got married. Am I not allowed to gift him and his wife something they’d both enjoy?”
“Oh,” you squeaked, surprised. Your face heated and you reached up to push the neckline of your dress away from your body in a sad attempt to cool down. “Well . . . Regardless of what it is, we thank you, Cadenza.”
She gave you a warm smile and nodded. She placed an arm over your shoulders and pulled you in for a brief embrace. “Of course. I’m glad you’re the one Laurance chose.” She lowered her voice, whispering in your ear, “Between you and me, though, I don’t quite understand why you chose him, but-“
“Cadenza!” You couldn’t help but chuckle at Laurance’s short outburst. He reached over to playfully swat at his sister, but she effortlessly dodged.
“I’m only saying! Honestly, it’s a wonder you even got married considering how flirtatious you were with every girl you came across.” She scoffed. You could tell she had started getting hot under the sun because she began fanning herself with her hand. “Although, it doesn’t surprise me that Y/n is the one you chose. Irene, you never shut up about her. Every day he’d come home going on about-“
“That’s enough.”
Cadenza laughed, rolling her eyes before leaving you and Laurance alone. She left with the excuse that she was taking too much of your time, but from the way she gave you a wink as she walked away you assumed she’d be back.
Laurance wrapped his hand in yours, bringing it to his lips and leaving a soft kiss against your fingertips. “Ignore her,” he said. “She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”
“So she was lying when she said you never shut up about me?” you teased, giving Laurance’s hand a squeeze. His cheeks turned pink, and he softly shook his head.
“I will neither confirm nor deny.” You chuckled as Laurance kissed your palm. “All you need to know is that I’ve been smitten with you for quite a while.”
“Oh, I’m sure.”
Laurance led you to a table where you dropped Cadenza’s gift off among he many others placed there. After, you found Lady Aphmau and thanked her for performing your ceremony. She apologized for messing up the knot, but you quickly reassured her by saying that it would only make you and Laurance stronger.
And for a fleeting moment of time, a period that would seem like seconds as the world moved forth, everything was perfect.
Laurance’s hands were not soft. They were calloused and the tips of his fingers had hardened from his years spent wielding a sword. Despite that, he brushed his hands against your body like you were a precious statue—one that would break if he applied too much pressure. Despite his rough hands, he took care in making sure to touch you gently.
“I love you,” he mumbled against your lips. You hummed in response, your fingers tangling in his hair. “I’m glad to have you as my wife. I must be the luckiest man in the world to have been able to charm a beauty like you.”
You smiled, pulling away just enough to look into his eyes. They were partially closed, clouded with the love and desire he held for you. That look was always there, but it was even more evident now that the two of you were alone.
You admired him. The slight bump in his nose, the curve of his lips. The way his hair was soft beneath your touch. The way his hands were wrapped around your waist, holding you as close as you could possibly be.
“You should let your hair grow,” you said after a moment. Laurance’s lips turned up.
“Yeah?  You think I should do that?”
His touch—his always gentle touch—travelled up your spine. It was hardly there, making you shiver beneath the brush of his hands.
You nodded. “I liked when you had long hair.”
“You liked when it was orange?”
You huffed in amusement. You played with the strands of his hair, your hands not once faltering in their actions. “Maybe not orange. But I did like when you had long hair.”
Laurance hummed, and he leaned forward to kiss you again. He mumbled an agreement against your lips as he slowly lowered you to the neatly made bed. As his hands traced your figure—slowly and deliberately, as if he was memorizing your form—you relished in the feel of his warm body against yours. You took in every tingle his movement sent up your spine.
You circled back to the brief conversation from earlier. You needed to know if he felt the same toward you for as long as you had. “Cadenza said you never stopped talking about me.”
“I’d prefer it if we kept my sister’s name out of our bedroom,” your husband joked. He smiled down at you, his gaze flitting between the features of your face. “But she wasn’t lying. I do talk about you a lot.”
You couldn’t help but smile, the warmth of the moment enveloping you like a much needed embrace. “You are so in love with me,” you teased.
Laurance rolled his eyes. “And you are just as in love with me, so you can’t say anything.”
He kissed you before you could say anything else. His lips pressed against yours with such desire that you didn’t know what else to do but kiss him back. Again he traced your figure with his hands, his touch and hold filled with such softness you felt like melting.
Laurance pulled away. Just enough to say, “I’d like to see the lace Cadenza gave you.”
You chuckled against his mouth. Your eyes fluttered open and you gently pressed on his chest, pushing him far enough that you could properly look at him. “How do you even know it’s lace? Did you already look, Laurance Zvahl?”
“Why else would she have been so secretive about it?” he replied. He was still smiling. Irene, you loved that smile. “Is it a crime to want to see my wife in lace?”
You playfully scoffed. “Oh, Laurance, you are an insufferable man.”
He huffed in amusement, brushing his lips against yours once more wirh a featherlight touch. “Clearly I’m not insufferable enough. You married me.”
“That I did.” Laurance grabbed your hand, lifting it to his lips to press kisses to your fingers. “And I would do it again.”
He smiled, pressing your palm against his cheek. “Good.”
The two of you stayed like that for a moment. Your hand against Laurance’s face, grounding him. Reminding him that he retained his humanity despite what he had faced in the Nether. His pinky brushed against the band on your wedding finger, and his gaze flitted down to stare at it.
“I’ll get you a nicer one,” he said, noticing that the band had already begun to withstand scratches over months of using your hands. “Something made of more durable silver. Or gold. Diamond, if you want. I’ll get you anything.”
“I don’t care if the ring is paper, my love, so long as you stay beside me.”
Laurance smiled. He couldn’t help it, really. Any time he was with you his heart was filled with insurmountable amounts of joy. A happiness he couldn’t explain, and he found that he wanted to do nothing except hold you close and shower you with all the love he had.
His touch was gentle, as it always was. It stayed gentle, and he took great care in making sure you felt safe. He handled you like a priceless item and whispered praises in your ear, relishing in the way you held him in return.
“I love you,” he breathed. He peppered brief kisses across your face, your neck, your shoulders. Wherever Laurance could reach, he would kiss.
You felt like the luckiest person alive.
“I love you, too.”
The embrace you held Laurance in lasted so long that you were the only one left to board the ship. You weren’t entirely sure where it was going, but you had volunteered your help in taking care of the children that went.
Laurance had found you before you went. He’d grabbed into your hand and pulled you close while the ship was being loaded. Now, Zoey was standing at the ramp with Levin in her arms as she waited for you.
After a while, Laurance pressed his lips against your hair. He didn’t even kiss you, he just . . . stayed there.
“Please be safe,” he whispered to you. You couldn’t help but laugh.
“I should be saying that to you. You’re the one going off to fight.”
“I know, but . . .” Laurance took your hands in his and pulled away enough to look at you. He rubbed soft circles across your knuckles with his thumbs. “We’ve only been married four months and already we have to deal with something like this.”
You lightly exhaled, pulling your hands from his to cup his face. “I know, but this isn’t something we can’t handle. I will be safe with Zoey and the others, and I know you’ll come back to me soon enough. My husband is one of the best, after all.”
Laurance chuckled at your playful boasting. He leaned forward to brush a kiss against your lips and for that moment nothing else existed. There was no threat of looming war, no high priest intimidating your village, no worry of the inevitable death that would fall upon many families. For a fleeting second, the world was at peace simply because Laurance held you in his arms.
“This will pass and we’ll look back on this as a brief moment in our lives,” Laurance mumbled against your lips. He rested his forehead against yours, basking in your being. “Wait for me?”
You smiled. “I will. I’ll wait for you as long as it takes.”
“Y/n!” Dale called. You looked back to see him standing over the rail of the boat, urging you to board. “Come on! We have to go!”
You gave him a nod, turning back to Laurance. You smiled at him, leaning forward to kiss him again. One that was more sure. It sealed the promise that you would wait for him.
“Come back safe to me.”
“I will.”
You pecked his lips once more before reluctantly pulling away. Before you did, you gave his hand a firm squeeze.
Laurance watched you run up to the boat and up the ramp. He watched Dale push the ramp away and untie the roped holding the boat to the shore. You stood behind the rail, smiling at Laurance. You gave him a wave, which he returned.
He watched the boat until it was out of sight. Then, Laurance stepped away from the beach.
Fifteen years.
That fact hit Laurance differently each time he thought about it. Although, seeing what Meteli had grown into—what his sister rebuilt from the ashes with the help of their father—was the hardest hitting rock yet. He had spent all this time away—all that time that only seemed like minutes to him.
And where were you? Levin hadn’t said anything about you. Neither did Malachi. Dante barely uttered your name and avoided Laurance’s gaze the first time he asked. Dante acted like Laurance hadn’t even spoken any other time you were brought up. Donna had mumbled something about you that he couldn’t quite make out and was too nervous to ask her to repeat. And Cadenza, your best friend, hadn’t spoken a word of your being.
Were you dead? Laurance promised his time away from you would only seem like a fleeting moment on the beach. He promised it would be just a second of borrowed time until everything returned to normal and you were in his arms again. But since so much time had passed . . .
Where were you?
Laurance walked by Aphmau’s side, hand poised above the hilt of his sword, ready to strike at a moment’s notice. Aphmau was talking to Cadenza, though Laurance wasn’t sure what about. He was almost positive he was meant to be listening, but he couldn’t bring himself to. His mind was racing, panicking in the absence of you. You hadn’t been in Phoenix Drop. Cadenza hadn’t said anything about you so he assumed you weren’t in New Meteli, either. Bright Port wasn’t too far. And there was always Scaleswind . . .
It felt like a weight was lifted from his chest when he heard Cadenza say your name. He became even lighter when she said you were living in New Meteli.
Laurance walked with a pep in his step after learning that. It might have been his imagination, but the journey to New Meteli felt quicker than it had been going. He was glad for that. Laurance had always hated traveling.
“Alright,” Cadenza began. In her arms she carried a basket of fresh fruit, going around and offering some to Aphmau and her friends, along with the guards of New Meteli. “Since all of you will be staying for a couple days, we’ll need to figure out sleep arrangements. I can probably take a few people here. Zack, is the guard quarters open at all?”
“I’m afraid not. If they had come any other week then it might, but with the new recruits from the guard academy the guard quarters is filled,” the black-haired guard, Zack, said. Laurance assumed he was the head guard.
Cadenza pressed her lips together, humming to herself as she thought. “Y/n’s still in Bright Port . . .”
“I believe she comes back today,” the blond one said. He was clearly younger than the other two Cadenza had called to her house, and his voice was softer. More timid.
Laurance perked up at your name, and so did Cadenza.
“Does she? Okay, that works out fine, then.” She murmured to herself for a moment. Something about you owning an inn that Laurance and his companions could stay in. “Vincent, will you wait at the gate for her? Oh, and tell her that she has a visitor.”
Vincent bowed his head. “Of course, Lady Cadenza.”
Laurance was glad when Vincent left. He no longer felt that suffocating thickness of air, but he now worried about you. He was afraid that Vincent—no matter how in control he said he was—would become a Shadow Knight and slice your head from your body.
But, he reminded himself, you had been living here for some time. There was no doubt you had been around Vincent, and if Cadenza still spoke your name then it meant he hadn’t killed you. Laurance calmed himself, loosening the hand he had unintentionally clenched.
Everything else that was said went in one ear and out the other. Laurance heard the words exchanged between Aphmau and his sister, but he couldn’t quite pin any sort of meaning to them. And when you followed Vincent through the door, every other sound seemed to dissipate in the air.
Laurance gaped. He almost couldn’t believe it was you. Your eyes were tired, your hair pulled out of your face with a bonnet. Your dress seemed worn and was faded, like it had gone through more uses and washes than it was made for. The sleeves were pulled above your elbows and you wiped your hands on the fabric wrapped around your waist. You looked nothing like the clean, proper girl Laurance had made his wife. Like Cadenza, you had made yourself into a more practical person as the years passed.
However, it was still you. The shape of your eyes was familiar and they still shone as brightly as the sun, despite the circles beneath them. The curve of your lips still made Laurance’s own curl up, and he let out a soft breath of relief.
Your gaze flicked to him. Your expression froze, smile slowly fading. Laurance feared for a moment that you weren’t happy to see him, but he realized it was only shock when you softly gasped and lifted a hand to your lips.
“Laurance?”
“Please can we move to Bright Port?“
You chuckled, glancing back at your son. You lifted a hand to protect your eyes from the blazing sun. Your ring sparkled in the light. “Enzo, we are not moving to Bright Port.”
“Why not?” Lorenzo groaned. He leaned back against the wall of the wagon. “There’s way more stuff to do and there’s actually kids my age there. Plus, with that many people, business will be better.”
You rolled your eyes, readjusting your daughter in your arms and turning yourself in the seat so you could face Lorenzo more clearly. “We can’t just up and move, darling. Carlos would have too much to take care of with the inn. Besides, Cadenza is in Meteli. She loves seeing you.”
Lorenzo groaned. “Yeah, but I’ve barely been able to see her since grandpa died.”
“Lady Cadenza has just been busy with adjusting to her duties as lord,” your husband cut in. His hold on the reigns didn’t falter and he kept his eyes on the road ahead, but Lorenzo turned his gaze to him. “Once she gets used to it she’ll want to see you again.”
Lorenzo groaned again. “But she’s been lord for almost two years now.”
“Hey,” you scolded. The gate of Meteli came into view, and you thanked Irene that you only had a couple more minutes. “Being a lord is hard work. Your aunt is still working on rebuilding the village to work in her favor and she’s facing a lot of societal pressure on top of that. Besides, your birthday is coming up. You can bet she’ll want to see you then.”
Lorenzo sighed, slouching down where he sat. It was clear there was more he wanted to say, but the wagon was closing in on Meteli and the conversation would go unresolved anyway. You softly exhaled, reaching back as best as you could to take his hand and squeeze it in comfort.
“We’ll talk more about this later, okay? Maybe you can convince me and Carlos to move.”
Lorenzo gave you a tight lipped smile and dropped the subject. You turned back so you were facing forward, adjusting your baby in your arms accordingly.
“How’s Maureen doing?” Carlos asked, his gaze flicking to you for a moment before turning back.
“She’s slept most of the way. I think the movement helps her,” you mused, brushing your thumb across your daughter’s brow bone. “I remember when Lorenzo was this small. He wouldn’t sleep for anything.” You smiled fondly, glancing back at your son. He had taken to picking at his nails and didn’t look up.
You softly hummed, your fond smile turning into something more bittersweet. As Lorenzo grew, he only looked more and more like his father. It was something that sent a sharp pang through your heart every time you looked at him and realized he was growing into his features.
“Lady Y/n!” Your head turned at the sound of your name. Carlos pulled the wagon to a stop in front of Meteli’s gate, where Vincent stood. You furrowed your brows in confusion, leaning forward to hear him better. “Lord Cadenza has requested your presence.”
“Really?” She hardly ever called for you if she thought you were on a trip or recovering from one. The last time she summoned you had been two years ago after a brief trip to Phoenix Drop. It had been to tell you and Lorenzo that Hayden was dead. “What for?”
Vincent shrugged. “We recently welcomed a group and she was wondering if you had any space in your inn. She also said there was someone you’d be interested in seeing.”
Now you were even more confused. You stared at Vincent for a moment, mouth slightly agape, before shaking your head and regathering your thoughts. “Of course. She wants to see me right now?” Vincent nodded. You sighed, turning to your husband. “I guess I’ll see you. Get settled at home and then meet me at Cadenza’s house, ‘kay?”
Carlos nodded. He leaned forward to brush a kiss against your temple and take Maureen from your arms. You turned to bid Lorenzo a brief farewell before Vincent helped you down. Once the two of you had gotten out of the way, Carlos urged the horses pulling the wagon forward.
“Did she say who I’d be interested in?” you questioned, walking by Vincent’s side.
He shook his head. “She didn’t say who, but I think it’s someone you used to know.”
You hummed. You ran through a list of people in your head, but you couldn’t think of anyone that would want to see you. You had just come back from visiting a friend in Bright Port. You had seen the residents of Phoenix Drop not too long ago. Nicole often exchanged letters with you to keep track with each other’s lives, and anyone else you could think of wasn’t someone you had built a relationship with before.
So who was it?
You were laughing at something Vincent had said as he pushed open Cadenza’s front door. Your laughter rang like a bell throughout the foyer and living room as you stepped inside and swept your gaze over the room.
And then your eyes caught sight of familiar faces—ones you hadn’t seen in over a decade. Your laughter and smile slowly died as your gaze ran over Aphmau. And then Katelyn, and Emmalyn. And then . . .
You softly gasped, lifting your hand to your mouth. You couldn’t believe your eyes. Right there—right in front of you—stood the husband you thought had been dead. Right in front of your eyes was the man that made you feel alive and in love all those years ago.
And he looked exactly the same as he did when you departed at the docks of Phoenix Drop. You must have been dreaming. No one could look so . . . unchanged after fifteen years of living.
“Laurance?” Your voice was breathless, his name coming out as a disbelieving whisper from your lips. You stood frozen, not knowing whether to jump for joy or back away from something that was so obviously not real.
Laurance stood. He nudged Cadenza, who had been talking with Aphmau, out of the way and was in front of you in a moment. His hands were on your arms, almost like he was making sure you were real. You found it ironic, since he was the one that had disappeared for fifteen years.
His lips were on yours before you could even form a coherent thought. He held you like he had been waiting. All the while you still had a hard time knowing if he was real. You heard Cadenza gasp and softly curse to herself.
You stayed frozen, not knowing what to do. Not knowing whether to kiss him back or stay still as a statue. Whether to push him away or bring him closer. The back of your neck burned, and you found yourself choosing to pull away for a breath of air.
Neither of you said a word. You spent a moment just looking at each other, taking each other in. Tears sprung to your eyes and you took a strangled breath. You cover your mouth to muffle it and take in the moment further, sure that you were dreaming.
That’s when Laurance saw it—the golden band embellished with a circle diamond on your finger. His gaze hardened, and once again it hit him that you hadn’t seen him for fifteen years, no matter how short that time felt for him.
Laurance could only afford to buy you a silver ring—one that easily dented and scratched—but during that time away you had found someone that could get you better. Someone that could provide you with stability and wealth.
You had lived what seemed to be an entire lifetime without him.
“Are you real?” you found yourself whispering, slowly lowering your hand. Your voice came out quiet, scared, almost. Like the dream would shatter if you acknowledged its illusion.
Laurance found it in himself to nod. “I am. I’m here, Y/n.”
“Oh, my Irene,” you gasped, covering your mouth again. You still couldn’t believe it. You had dreamed of the moment you would be able to hold Laurance in your arms again. You dreamed of the moment you would be able to sit with your old lover and tell him everything that had happened. The moment you would spill all of your grievances and regrets to him. The stolen moment where you told him he had a son.
Tears slipped from your eyes, falling in hot streaks down your cheeks. You didn’t know what to do. You had imagined your reunion over and over, hundreds of times before. You rehearsed what you would say, guessed what Laurance would say, but now that the unbelievable moment was staring you in the face, you didn’t know what to do.
“Thank you, Vincent.” You hardly processed the sound of your husband’s voice ushering Lorenzo into Cadenza’s house. Standing there, barely a foot across from Laurance, made the rest of the world disappear in the same way it did fifteen years ago on your wedding day. The rest of the world disappeared the same way it did that day on the beach, the last time you saw him.
“Mom, are you okay?” Lorenzo placed a gentle hand on your shoulder, pulling you out of your astonished stupor. You softly gasped again, turning to face your son. The spitting image of his father.
You managed to softly nod, your gaze flicking between him and Laurance. You still found it hard to believe. You could walk to the grave you had given Laurance, and yet here he was. You never imagined you’d be able to see him standing next to his son.
You cleared your throat, nodding more surely. “I’m fine,” you said with a hoarse voice. “Fine. Uhm, Carlos.”
Your husband stepped forward. He held Maureen in his arms, but the moment you held your arms out for her, he handed his daughter over. He stayed close, however, and wrapped an arm around your shoulder.
“I’m right here,” he whispered, only loud enough for you to hear it. You nodded, unable to meet his gaze as you held Maureen close. There was no doubt that he recognized Laurance. You and Cadenza had both shown Carlos pictures of him. You’d both told him about the man you thought had been dead.
You swallowed the pit in your throat. “This is Carlos,” you said, nodding slightly to the man next to you. “My . . . husband.”
You struggled to say that last word. It felt weird to say, even though it never had been before. The entire situation felt surreal, and the way everyone else in the room seemed to be closely watching the interaction didn’t help.
You watched Laurance’s mood change. It was evident in the way his eyes dulled and his brows pulled together by just a fraction. Despite that, Laurance played nice and held his hand out for Carlos to shake.
After the two shook hands and exchanged pleasantries in meeting, you motioned to the baby in your arms. “This is my daughter, Maureen.” Laurance smiled at her, the same one you had fallen in love with years ago. Finally, you lifted your hand and placed it on your son’s shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze. You took a breath, your voice softening as you spoke. “And this is Lorenzo, my son. Lorenzo, this is Laurance.”
Realization flashed across both of their faces. Laurance’s gaze flitted all across your son’s face, recognizing the bump in his nose, the curve of his lips, the line of his brows, the shape of his eyes. Even Lorenzo’s hair and eye color was a near copy to what Laurance had seen countless times in the mirror.
Lorenzo’s head turned to face you so fast you were almost surprised his neck didn’t snap. His brows were pulled together, bunching in the exact same way Laurance’s did. “You told me he was dead,” he said.
“I thought he was,” you whispered. Carlos hadn’t said another word, but the weight of his arms across your shoulders served as a way to ground you. Even if you felt like you were going to shatter any moment.
“Lorenzo, how old are you?” Laurance asked. The crease in your son’s brow smoothed as he looked at Laurance. The action nearly sends you down a spiral.
“Fourteen,” he replied. “I turn fifteen in three weeks.”
Laurance’s eyes slightly widened. His gaze flicked to you, his celestine eyes seeming to search in the depths of your heart for any sort of information. “Is he . . . ?”
You nod, suddenly feeling very overwhelmed. Seeing your son and former lover standing together was something you never thought you’d experience. Not only was it like you were seeing double with how identical they looked, but for the past fifteen years you had grappled with the fact that one of them was dead.
You opened your mouth to speak, but a soft cry fell from your lips instead. It was completely involuntary, and the small action made you realize that you couldn’t handle whatever was happening, dream or not.
“I can’t do this.” You had whispered it to yourself, but Carlos heard your comment and in response softly squeezed your shoulder. The weight of his arm fell away and he reached for your daughter without being asked.
“Go outside and take a moment to breathe and clear your mind. I’ve got Maureen, my love,” he told you. You didn’t move for a moment, marvelling in the fact that your husband somehow knew what you needed. You sniffed, softly nodding before turning and leaving Cadenza’s house.
For a long moment, you paced up and down the steps to Cadenza’s front door, trying to get control of your breathing and stop yourself from crying. You realized that wasn’t happening, though, and sat yourself on the bottom step. You pulled your knees to your chest and wrapped your arms around them, laying your head against your crossed arms and allowing yourself to cry.
You hardly heard the door open and close behind you. It wasn’t long until you felt someone sit beside you and place a gentle hand in the middle of your back, rubbing small circles as a way to comfort you. When you looked up to see who it was, Cadenza offered you a soft smile.
“Are you alright?” she asked, her voice hushed. You lifted your head and used the heels of your hands to wipe at your tear stained cheeks.
“Of course not,” you bluntly replied. Despite yourself, you laughed. A headache was starting to form behind your eyes, so you closed them and began rubbing your temples to soothe it. “Cadenza, this isn’t real. It can’t be. He- Laurance is dead. He’s been dead for fifteen years, I- How is he here?”
“I know,” your friend said. She wrapped her arm around your shoulders properly, pulling you closer so she could embrace you. “He came into Meteli with Aphmau and everyone else a few hours ago. He and Aphmau explained that they got stuck in the Irene dimension.”
You scoffed, opening your eyes and facing her. “The Irene dimension? Seriously, Cadenza? I’m supposed to believe that he was not only in another dimension, but that he was in a dimension that not even the most knowledgeable scholars of Irene believe is a real place?”
Cadenza pressed her lips into a line. “I still don’t fully believe it myself. But, it makes sense, doesn’t it? All those theorists say a minute there is a year in our world . . . Besides, it’s what everyone that went missing is saying, so maybe it isn’t so unbelievable.”
“Well it’s ridiculous.” But was it really? Both you and Laurance had been devout followers of Irene. On more than one occasion the two of you had entertained conversations about sanctuaries she created for herself—ones where she could rest without the hassle of mortals. She was a Divine Warrior, and Enki did know how to create other worlds.
You considered the fact that Laurance was in this other dimension. “If . . . If I had known he were still alive I would have waited.” Even though you promised him all those years ago that you would.
Cadenza didn’t need you to elaborate. She knew that you would have waited for him to come back, no matter how long it took. In response to your comment, she huffed. “And waste the time you spent building the life you have now?”
“It would have been different if I had known that Laurance was alive.”
“Even so, there would have been no telling how long you would have been waiting,” Cadenza stated. “You would have spent fifteen years being miserable and missing him? You would give up everything you remade for yourself? Your husband, your children.”
Cadenza’s words hit you. She was right, as much as you didn’t want to admit it.
“You are who you are because Laurance was dead,” she continued. You stared off at the village paths, watching citizens walk along the road. They were accompanied by children or pets or lovers, and something about it reminded you that everyone lived their own life. “Lorenzo is who he is because his father was dead. You cannot let yourself dwell on what could have been, Y/n, because there is no way we could know how waiting for him would have turned out.”
She stopped talking, allowing you a moment to stew in her words. After a minute, you sighed and closed your eyes again.
You wished with all your being that you could have waited for him. You wished that life had gone just a little differently, that one small thing would be changed in the past. Where would that put you now? Surely you’d still be happy with Laurance and your child.
But Cadenza was right. Dwelling on what ifs wouldn’t help anyone, and the realization made your eyes burn.
“I don’t know what to do,” you whispered, your voice cracking as you fought another wave of tears.
Cadenza squeezed your shoulder again. “Just do your best. That’s all you can do.”
You gave her a soft nod, letting out a heavy breath.
You and Cadenza sat together on the bottom step leading to her house for what might have been hours. Neither of you spoke. Neither of you needed to. You both knew that you simply needed to be together in that moment because reflecting on it, what had she been thinking when she saw that she hadn’t lost all the family she’d ever known? She had you and Lorenzo, of course, but you couldn’t replace Laurance and Hayden and Joh and you knew that.
You wrapped your own arm around Cadenza’s shoulder and rested your heads against each other. You had always been each other’s support. She was there for you throughout both of your pregnancies. You had been there for her during the death of both her fathers. Together, the two of your mourned the loss of Laurance.
And you would continue to support each other, no matter what happened.
Hours later, long after the sun had set and you had recuperated with Laurance and your family, you found yourself basking in the soft breeze in a meadow on the outskirts of New Meteli beneath the stars.
Laurance had told you everything. He started with the war, explaining how he watched you sail off with Zoey and the other women and children of Phoenix Drop. He said he had been completely unaware that you were pregnant, just as you had been.
He went on to detail Garroth’s betrayal and how it led them to the Irene dimension. He told you about the battle and how Zoey rescued them. When he shared that they had to leave Garroth behind in order to prevent Zane from also leaving, you teared up. Laurance told you that he and the group that went had been trying to figure out how to get him back.
After that, you had gone home for a bit. The six of them followed your family to the inn and settled in their respective rooms. Lorenzo turned in after tucking Maureen into bed, which left you and Carlos.
You told him everything from that day. When you told him that Laurance had kissed you and that you had considered kissing him back, Carlos didn’t blame you. He said that if Mary Ann suddenly came back to life, then he likely would have done the same. You had smiled and kissed his cheek, saying you were thankful he understood your situation.
“I love you, Carlos,” you had told him. He had pulled you into an embrace and planted a kiss on your temple.
“I know you do,” he had said, rubbing your arm. “I love you, too, but I also know what it’s like to lose a spouse.”
“You’re not mad at me?”
“I could never be. Not for something like this.”
Now, you sat in a meadow. Your eyes were closed and you welcomed the chill of the breeze around you. You didn’t know how long you had been sitting there, but it had been long enough for you to mostly clear your mind and regather yourself.
“I thought I’d find you here.” You opened your eyes and turned your head. Laurance approached you, his old armour shimmering under the moonlight. “You always did like contemplating in nature’s company. Especially beneath the stars.”
You couldn’t help but let a small smile grace your lips as Laurance settled himself beside you. “I guess no matter how much time passes, some things don’t change.”
He hummed. The moment reminded you of your first couple rendezvous with him. The ones where you were aware of each other’s feelings but too shy to act on any of them.
Laurance blew out a breath. “So.”
“So.”
Laurance chuckled, looking up at the stars. “How have the past fifteen years been?”
You softly shook your head, glancing down at where your hands were intwined in your lap. You picked at your cuticles as you spoke. “Good, I suppose. I had Lorenzo. I stayed with Dante for a bit in Phoenix Drop before deciding to help Cadenza and Hayden rebuild. After a while I met Carlos. We got married, had a daughter . . . You know.”
Laurance hummed again. He kept his stare trained on the sky, tracing the constellations he knew. “Carlos . . . Is he good to you?”
You nodded. “The best. He grounds me when I go too high, makes me breakfast every morning. He treats Lorenzo like his own son.” You smiled fondly, finally looking up to Laurance. “He’s a lot like you, actually.”
“A hopeless romantic and flirt?” You laughed, but nodded all the same. Laurance brought himself to meet your gaze and a smile graced his features. “Wow, you really do have a type.”
“Oh.” You reached forward to playfully smack him in the shoulder, and suddenly you were reminded of why you had fallen in love with Laurance in the first place.. He was so easy to talk to. It didn’t take much for you to be charmed by him and the two of you never had a dull moment. You playfully rolled your eyes. “He’s a lot like me, too, so it isn’t just that.”
“How so?”
You shrugged. “We’re in the same boat. His wife succumbed to an illness eight years ago. Her name was Mary Ann. It was actually why he came to New Meteli in the first place. He had been living in Borobos with Mary Ann and her family, but once she died he decided to come back to his own family.” You looked back down at your hands, picking at your nails again. “It’s actually how we started talking. I told him I knew how he felt and told him about you. He told me about Mary Ann, and we just kinda . . . went from there.”
“But you’re happy with him?” There was a lightness to Laurance’s voice. It almost seemed as if he hoped your answer was no so he could swoop in and save you.
You nodded, looking up to meet his gaze. “I am.”
Laurance pressed his lips together and didn’t say anything else. The two of you spent a moment in silence, just looking at each other. You looked at the man you had lost so long ago and Laurance admired the woman you had become.
“What’s Lorenzo like?” he asked after a long moment.
You smiled, pushing hair out of your face and pulling it over your shoulder. “Surprisingly a lot like his father,” you teased. A breath of amusement fell from your lips. “He’s incredibly restless, always wanting to help others. He says he wants to become a guard.”
Laurance’s lips curled up. “Just like his dad.”
You laughed, tears pricking at your eyes. You reached up to wipe them away before they had a chance to fall. “Yes, just like his dad.” Another moment of silence passed. The breath you took broke it. “You’ll be proud of him.”
“I’m sure.” Laurance noticed the tears building on your waterline and reached forward to brush his thumb against your cheek. After a fleeting touch, you pulled back and turned your head away. Defeated, Laurance let his hand drop. “What’s your daughter’s name?” he asked after a tense second.
“Maureen,” you replied. “We named her after Mary Ann since Carlos didn’t have a kid with her. And because Lorenzo is named after you.”
“He is?” You nodded. “Why?”
You let out a heavy breath, looking back down at your lap. “I was scared that if he ended up looking like me then you’d be gone forever.”
Laurance softly laughed to himself, trying to make light of the situation. “Well, he’s the spitting image of me.” The comment made you laugh as well. “Honestly, I looked at him and thought I was looking in a mirror.”
“I know,” you laughed. “I’m glad he does. It’s a reminder that you’ve been with me all these years.” You sniffed, shaking your head and looking up at the sky. The tears burned in your eyes more persistently, and you hoped that looking up would stop you from crying. “Oh, I was so mad when he came out with blue eyes and brown hair. He looked nothing like me, and when he was born I thought you had just . . . left me. I didn’t want Lorenzo to be a painful reminder of that.”
“And yet, you named him after me?”
You waved him off. “Don’t question what I was thinking. I was pregnant.”
The two of you laughed. For a moment, you were taken back to when you first met. The easy conversation and laughs, the way Laurance could pull any response from you that he wanted despite how nervous you made him
When your laughter died you sniffed, wiping your eyes and turning to look at him. “It’s really nice to see you again, Laurance.”
And just like that you were crying. You tried not to—you really did—but the bizarreness of the entire situation made you unable to hold anything back. Laurance reached forward and you let him pull you into his arms. It was an embrace you had missed for fifteen years. One you never thought you’d feel again so you let yourself be pulled in the moment. You let yourself, for just that moment, pretend that Laurance hadn’t been gone for fifteen years. You let yourself pretend that the two of you had stayed together, that you had waited for him. For a moment, you imagined what that life might have been like.
“I love you,” Laurance,” you softly said once you were able to catch a full breath. His arms tightened around you and he hid his face in the top of your head. “There will always be some part of my heart that belongs to you for the rest of my life. But I’m not the same person as I was. I’ve grown and have come to accept that you died, and . . .”
You trailed off. Now you knew he wasn’t dead. You knew seeing him wasn’t just another dream. You knew that, if you really wanted to, you could take him back as your husband. But . . . You didn’t want that. You were happy with Carlos. You understood each other and had helped each other grieve. Maybe if you hadn’t married Carlos, if you had stuck by your promise and just waited for Laurance, you’d have taken him back. But nothing could replace the relationship you had built with Carlos.
“I can’t be with you again,” you said. It was hard to say, especially when Laurance held you in his arms. “And it’s not because-”
“It’s alright.” You were almost thankful Laurance cut you off because you weren’t sure what you were going to say. “I understand. You thought I was dead, and before that you thought I’d deserted you. I don’t blame you for moving on.”
You nodded against him, letting go of the breath that had been caught in your throat. It felt as if a weight had been lifted from your shoulders.
“I’m sorry I didn’t wait for you,” you said. It wasn’t something you felt guilty about, but you still felt that you owed Laurance that apology.
“Don’t be. You had no way of knowing I would come back. Or when, for that matter. I would rather you move on than spend fifteen years being miserable and lonely while waiting for me.”
You hummed, a faint smile painting itself on your lips. “That’s what Cadenza told me after Dante’s daughter was born.”
Laurance laughed, the sound giving you the same feeling as hearing the birds chirping on the first day of spring. “Cadenza was right. Maybe it’s because she’s my sister.” You laughed, finally pulling yourself out of Laurance’s embrace so he could see the way you teasingly rolled your eyes. As you reached up to dry your cheeks, Laurance caught sight of your golden ring and a wistful smile found itself on his face. “Are you really happy with Carlos?”
You nodded. “I am, Laurance. I’m so happy with him.”
“Then don’t worry about us.” He reached up to give your shoulder a comforting squeeze. “As long as you’re happy with Carlos and he treats you right, then our time has passed. You’ve moved on from me, and it’s clear you don’t love me in the same way you did.”
You smiled at him. “Thank you for making this easier.”
“It would be cruel of me to make it more difficult. I know it’s already hard seeing me again.” You nodded in response. This time the silence that enveloped the two of you was comfortable. There was a new air of resolve and you no longer felt any pressure. “My only request is that you and Carlos let me spend time with Lorenzo. I know he also thought I was dead, but . . . I’d like to be a father to him.”
You laughed, finding it ridiculous that Laurance thought you would take that away from him. “Of course I will, Laurance. I was actually thinking about letting him go back to Phoenix Drop with you, if that’s alright.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. You could show him all the places that are important to you. Tell him what they mean.”
Laurance smiled. This time, he looked like he was about to cry. He lifted a hand to rub the back of his neck and nodded. “That would be nice.”
Maybe in another timeline you were still happily married to Laurance. Maybe the two of you were still in Phoenix Drop, living happily with Lorenzo and a happy girl named Mona and another boy named Daniel. The two of you would be living in a house built on the shore with the help of Lady Aphmau and Garroth and Dante and whoever else had decided to pitch in. Every day Laurance would go off to fulfill his duties as second in command and every day he would come home and greet you with a kiss. The two of you would spend dinner with your children every day.
He would hold you just as gently as he always had. You’d laugh against each other’s lips and every night he would hold you close in his arms. The two of you would age together and watch your children grow, living life in the same way you had.
But that wasn’t in this lifetime. In this lifetime, you had mourned the loss of Laurance and healed from it. Part of you would always belong to him, as you had said, but it was no longer the right time for your love. You had grown into a different person, one you weren’t sure Laurance would like the same way he did.
You were okay with that. Your love had run its course and it was time to grow apart. You would stay in each other’s life, but no longer would your fates be entangled as it was years ago.
Sometimes, when the day was cloudless and the sky was cerulean, Laurance would look up and wonder what that life would be like. He would yearn for a life where he hadn’t disappeared for fifteen years and sometimes he would beg the Divine to give him back the lost time. They never answered, and Laurance was left feeling like a fool for wishing for something that was so far out of his reach.
But as time passed, he would long for those dreamlike days less and less. He would learn to grow with you not as a lover, but as a companion. It would take a long time, but Laurance would find happiness in the days that had become his reality. He would eventually find it in himself to feel content, even if this was far from what he wanted.
No matter how much time passed, though—no matter how at peace he felt with the life he was living—some part of Laurance would always long for skies of blue.

i accidentally posted this when it wasnt finished so I lost the ask but thankfully I ss fucking everything
anyways some warnings for blood
enjoy!
Once more, you headed into the forest.
Recently, Lord Aphmau asked if you could travel to the woods and collect some herbs for Lady Zoey. You, of course, were ecstatic to help! Lord Aphmau had already done so much for your little village, the least you could do to repay her was collect a few measly herbs.
And so, every day, you would head into the forest. But not alone. Lord Aphmau had assigned you a guard to keep you safe.
Well.. it's more truthful to say that he assigned himself. Sir Laurance, second in command of the guards, had taken it upon himself to keep you free from dangers while you trek through the woods. It was.. eye-opening, to say the least.
Many would say that the two of you made an unusual pair, a respected guard and a humble villager. And at first, you would agree.
You and Sir Laurance had seemingly nothing in common, and you would often question why he came with you in the first place. His answer was always the same.
("I could never let a pretty thing like you wander alone in these dangerous woods now could I?")
Always accompanied by a cheeky grin, his words lit little embers in your heart, and soon you found those embers growing into a steady blaze. How lucky you were to have a guard, a sworn protector of your very village, smitten with you.
Every morning, you would wake up, get ready for the day -however, you have begun to put more effort into your appearance lately- and look forward to your trip with Sir-
("Someone as lovely as you need only call me Laurance.." his words echoed in your mind, interrupting your morning routine with his soothing, sultry-)
Ahem.. Every morning, you would wake up, get ready for the day, and look forward to your trip with..Laurance into the woods.
The trip itself was nothing special, and definitely not dangerous enough to warrant a guard- it was a simple hour-long trip there and back.
The herbs you needed grew by a small river and usually, it was the perfect resting place. The cool water provided much-needed refreshment for you and it often soothed your sore muscles.
Crouched down to the river, you splashed a bit of water on your face to cool off, it had been particularly hot today and Laurance’s not-so-subtle flirting certainly hadn't helped you cool down either. He was always present behind you, but never too far that he wasn't able to voice his silly one-liners.
(“It’s lovely weather for a walk, isn't it?” His voice echoed through the winds, somehow meddling wonderfully with the forest’s own calm and serene symphony.
Your head turned to gaze at him. He stared at the treetops while the sun peeked through the leaves, seemingly lost in thought. But just as you were about to answer, he locked eyes with you and tilted his face towards yours, smiling mischievously.
“But not as lovely as the beauty in front of me.”)
Cheesy, yet endearing: if you hid a smile or a small laugh behind your hands then it would forever remain unknown to anyone but you.
You say on your knees, face peering up to look at your -hopefully- equally smitten companion, intending to restart the chatter that had died down when the two of you reached the river.
But.. something was off.
Instead of looking at you -like you had suspected- Laurance was instead looking into the surrounding forest, a hand tensed on his sword’s grip. As if he was waiting for something to strike.
For all your trips into the woods, never once had you seen him like this. No longer was it your charming and silly Laurance in front of you. It was the second in command, Sir Laurance of Phoenix Drop, tense and waiting for battle.
His posture screamed danger and the hair on your arms stood at attention. Like a deer in the path of a hunter’s arrow, you remained still, ready to bolt at the moment Laurance gave a sign.
But you were never prepared for that hunter’s arrow to fly right by your face, only thrown off course by Laurance's quick sword. A thin red sliver opened up on your left cheek, steadily dripping as the arrow lodged itself in the trees behind you.
Laurence was already gone, dashing through the woods. A hastily yelled “Go!” was your only sign to start running.
Rushing through the woods, the only thing on your mind was Laurance. He was the second in command so surely he was fine. But those people in the woods.. They were unlike anything you had seen before.
..That's not true.
Once, before Lord Aphmau settled into Phoenix Drop you saw it. Saw him.
A man with eyes so red they could pass for blood. He was covered head to toe in blood with a crazed look in his dark red eyes. He was.. too far gone to notice you in his haze. But you would never forget the crimson and coal armor he dawned.
And it was only a glimpse, yet you saw it. The bow that had carved through your cheek was held by red claw-like gauntlets.
Trees blurred past you and you found yourself running faster as if spurred on by the sight of ill-gotten crimson armor. You were going too fast and knew that it was only a matter of time until you slipped and fell onto the harsh ground below. Yet you continued on, perhaps putting enough distance between you and the battle would at least allow Laurance to fight at his best without having to worry about protecting you.
Cold, rocky ground met your palms as you inevitably tripped over something and fell. Harsh breaths fled from your lungs out into the air and hoped your heaving wouldn't give away your position.
“Oh Irene,” you prayed, hands clasped over your heart and kneeling despite the pain in your legs. “Please, watch over Laurance. Let him come to no harm and-”
*Crunch*
A frightened, high-pitched noise left your lips and you cursed yourself as you scrambled to get up. They're coming for you, you know it.
Their footsteps were loud in the quiet forest. They had nothing to worry about if they were making this much noise. You tried to run, but your earlier fall had injured your legs. All you could do was pathetically scamper, each step held up by your hands fisting tree bark.
Tears cascade down your cheeks. The salt stung your wounded flesh but you paid it no mind. You had to get as far as you could-
“..me].”
They were gaining on you. Gods, is this how you die?!
“-ame]..!”
You were just a simple villager with an interest in plants and this is where it gets you? You would have stayed at home today if you knew this was going to happen. In fact, if you make it out alive today you'd make it a point to never go into these damn woods ever again! No matter what Lord Aphmau needs, it's certainly not worth your life-!
You nearly jumped out of your skin as a cold, clammy hand gripped your shoulder.
“[Name]!”
It was-
“Laurance!” Flinging your arms around his shoulders, you almost managed to topple the both of you to the forest floor when you jumped on him.
Heavy sobs racked your body as you relaxed in his arms. Calloused and steady hands brushed the tears from your face before his fingers caught on the cut on your face.
He pulled back from your embrace and guided you to look up at him.
“Hey, its- it's ok.. Just a small scratch..” his voice was a soft, steady thing for you to focus on while he tried to placate you.
Though his words remained drowned out by your cries, you still found solace in them and managed to calm your sobs enough to get a good look at him through your tears.
Your vision was still blurry so you started with what was closest to you, his hands. Faint scratches marred them and you could smell an iron scent emanating from his palms.
Gods, he was probably more hurt than you and here you were, crying like a baby in his arms because of one measly scratch.
You wiped your eyes, surely smearing dirt all over your face with how dirty they were. But you couldn't care less, you just had to see him. You had to make sure he was alright.
His hair was disheveled and a leaf or two aly beneath light brown strands. Sweat dripped down his forehead and mixed with dirt, likely from the fight before.
His eyes were-
You pushed him away.
“Wha- [Name]?-”
He looked at you, confused. You were just clinging to him a second ago, what had happened? He took a look behind himself to see if any pursuers had managed to get back up and follow him but he was met with nothing but forest.
He turned back to you. You were slowly backing away. It was odd, had he done something?-
A soft whisper broke the rising tension between the two of you.
“..Your eyes.” your voice was faint.
Blood-red eyes locked onto you.
(Just like the man from before, with bloodied armor, bloodied hair, and bloodied eyes.)

A Lovers Support
Pairing: Laurance x FemReader
WARNINGS: slightly suggestive ending but that’s it.
Y’all. I’m getting to that point in my young adulthood where I can’t indulge in tasty treats as much anymore 😔 my metabolism…is SLOWING DOWN. I knew this day would come…the tummy isn’t so bad, but you know how you’re feeling great about yourself and then you notice that one thing and you’re like “wait, that kinda makes me insecure” that happened to me the other day when I bent over and all the rolls kinda bunched up (if you know you know) and I just had to write this to make me feel better 😭💔
Anyways, enjoy some Laurance love 💕
Tumblr media
"What're you doing, my love?" A soft voice whispers behind you and you turn away from the stove, meeting the pretty blue eyes of your lover.
You smile softly, adoring the way Laurance stands with his hair sticking up every which way and his sweats hanging low on his hips. His shirt was gone, though you recall him going to bed wearing one. He always gets so hot in the night which is his own fault really. He just couldn't be more than two inches away from you, even during the hottest of nights he'll at least have his hand touching your back or waist. He is such a cuddle bug.
"Making you some breakfast. Just bacon and eggs, nothing special." You shrug, turning back to the stove and the smell of sizzling bacon.
You wanted to make him pancakes too, seeing as he almost always gets up before you and fills the kitchen with delicious smells and food for you to wake up to. But things didn't go as plan, especially when he was holding onto you so tightly less than an hour ago. How could you possibly pull away from that?
"Just?" he grumbles, and you hear the soft pattering of his bare feet on the ground. A strong arm wraps around your shoulder and in a quick move, he plants a wet kiss on your cheek. "You could've given me a frozen waffle and I would've been happy."
You giggle softly at his words, flipping the bacon in the pan. "This is nothing compared to the food you make me. Remember when you made croissants?"
"Croissants are a simple and classic French breakfast."
"Not when you make them from scratch!" You shake your head and you feel the hot air of Laurance huffing into your shoulder. "Plus you paired it with that delicious jam you got from that farmers market."
"The amish know what they're doing." He shrugs, clearly not realizing how impressive his cooking and baking skills are.
His hand then grabs onto the pan and playfully he nudges you out of the way by bumping his hip into yours. "Scooch. I got the rest."
"But this is the breakfast I'm making for you." You pout and he raises an eyebrow your way.
"I know. But you only have enough bacon in the pan for one person, and I can't let my darling girlfriend starve." He smiles at you, but you only feel your stomach churn at his words. "It'll be quicker if I finish this so we can eat together."
You hum thoughtfully, hands drifting down to your stomach when he looks back to the stove. "Well...I was actually just planning on having a cup of coffee and piece of toast."
Laurance pauses, suspiciouseyes peeking over his shoulder.
"What? Why?"
Why? Wasn't it obvious?
You nibble on your lip nervously. You don't want to admit it out loud. It is a natural occurance when you get older. You lose that fast metabolism and without consistant exercise and a decent diet things just...get a little thicker in places.
At first you thought it was a change in your period hormones. A few extra pounds was normal when a woman menstruates so you weren't concerned, especially when everything hurts and you're just trying not to bleed all over your furniture. But when the weight didn't go away you just began to feel and notice things you wish you didn’t.
Laurance is so passionate about cooking. He talks all the time about wanting to open a resturant of his own one day with all his favorite cuisine and recipes. He constantly wants you to try new things with him, going to all sorts of resturants and enjoying delicious home cooking. When you got together you adored that passionate side of him and ate just about everything he made for you.
Now you wonder if the calories are finally catching up to you.
"I'm just not that hungry. Oh and I saw on a fitness blog that breakfast should be the smallest meal of the day and-"
"But you love breakfast," Laurance says, voice sounding so dejected that your mouth snaps shut almost immediately. He looks back to the pan and then you again. "I don't...I don't understand. My girlfriend who loves food wants a plain piece of bread?"
"Maybe with butter."
"With butter."
You stare at each other for a long moment, a whirlwind of emotions raging in Laurance's blue eyes. His gaze then drifts downward to where your hands rests against your stomach and you can see him making the connection in seconds.
"Oh, my love, is this what this is about?" He turns the stove off quickly and then walks over to where you stood. His hands cup your face and he squishes your cheeks together. "Are you worried about gaining a little extra weight?"
"There's a better way of saying that..." you grumble, voice muffled from the strong force of his hands kneading your face like bread dough.
"No, there isn't." He smiles, amused. But it doesn't last long as his face grows serious. "Its alright you know. It just tells me you're healthy and I'm feeding you well."
"Too well."
He sighs softly before bending over and planting a kiss on your forehead. You melt under his touch and he slowly begins to drift his lips down your face. He lightly pecks your nose and cheeks, tracing over your freckles an beauty marks before finally hovering his lips right above your own.
"Why are you truly worried about it? Does it bother you? Or is it bothering someone else? Or perhaps..." he looks you right in the eyes, capturing your full attention. "you believe it'll bother me?"
You ponder his words. Why did it bother you? Your body changes all the time from pimples to ingrown hairs and even the occasional white hair or two. Those never bothered you before and this...this is something that is hardly even noticable to anyone but you.
And Laurance…you love him. Dearly. You would’ve told him if someone had said something about the way you looked. But perhaps he is right in a way. You didn’t want him to think lesser than you because you couldn’t enjoy his food and keep down the weight. He is fit and strong, going to the gym multiple times a week. You didn’t want to look bad at his side and embarrass him in front of his family or friends.
"I'm just...adjusting to the change. Growing in pant sizes isn't something I just ignore. Especially when it’s affecting my bank account,” you try to joke, putting on a smirk.
“If buying new pants was your only concern, I think this would be a different conversation.” He frowns, tilting his head at you. “But I don’t mind giving my girl a little money for a shopping spree.”
“I don’t want your money.”
“Then what is it that you do want, my love?”
You sigh softly, a hand reaching up to cup his face. “I just…want to eat a little healthier. So I can feel good and look good for you.”
“Ah, so you are concerned about how I feel about this change that I hadn’t even noticed till now.” He then pinches your nose playfully, causing you to reel back in shock.
“Laurance!”
“What? It’s the truth! And besides, I didn’t get with you because of your looks.” His face softens and you practically kiss him right then and there as he stares at you so lovingly. “I got with you because you’re kind and generous and you care so deeply about others. You love my food and you aren’t afraid to call me out on my faults and admit to your own. You’ve taught me to be a better person and I am proud to be your boyfriend. In more ways than one.”
“Laurance…”
“And this change just makes me want to cuddle you even more than before.” He grins and you smack his chest.
“I can’t lay in bed with you all day, Laurance!!” You scold, smiling as he begins to laugh loudly, tipping his head back.
“Yes, you can!” He leans down again to kiss you on the lips quickly. “We can sleep in late and then I’ll cook you a breakfast for the queen that you are.”
“I have work you know.”
“Call off.” He shrugs.
“Don’t even start!”
He chuckles again and before you can even let out another word he wraps his arms underneath your ass and throws you over his shoulder with ease. You squeal, surprise and then excitement flooding through you as he carries you over into the bedroom.
“Laurance!? What are you doing?”
“Taking you back to bed. You obviously need to be shown how much I love you.”
“B-but what about breakfast?”
“Leave it. You’ll be starving for something different very soon.”
Your face warms almost immediately. But with his strong arms around you and your bed cushioning your fall as he plops you onto the soft comforter, you no longer care about breakfast or coffee or even that lousy piece of toast. All that matters to you is Laurance and his unwavering love for you.

Soooo… I was itching for so long to make a Laurance x reader fanfic but every time it was either too ambitious or too complex so I decided to start with something short(?) and sweet based on something that happened to me with some slight changes.
There is no need for a trigger warning and the work contains around 1709 words.
Pairing: Mystreet Laurance x reader
Enjoy! ;3
Charming smiles and a dazzling pair of sky blue eyes were all you could remember once you woke up that morning, almost feeling the need to bury yourself the pillow to groan with how vivid it felt.
It was quite uncommon for you to get dreams, and when they did occur, they were a jumbled mess of memories, thoughts and ideas you seemed to have throughout the day but never something so ridiculous like having the equivalent of a wet dream for a hopeless romantic. Apparently you were one of them. The most infuriating part about it all was that you completely forgot the face of the supposed prince charming and that for some reason upset you. All you could recollect was the fact that he had beautiful blue eyes and a handsome smirk.
Sitting up, you start the day by thinking about the chores that awaited - laundry, vacuuming, and grocery shopping to name a few. Lamenting your dream in bed wouldn’t have helped you finish them faster so begrudgingly you got into the shower to clean yourself up before going out. The warm spray of water did help to say the least, your mood lightning significantly. You go to wipe a hand over the fogged up mirror caused by the hot vapor lingering inside the bathroom when a blush suddenly graced your cheeks as you seemed to recollect one of the moments.
Inside the dream you were getting out of the shower, towel wrapped securely around yourself when a pair of arms circled your waist as the offender nuzzled his face in the crook of your neck, mumbling about something that you could not quite comprehend but it must’ve been domestic in nature. You once more wiped the condensation from the mirror just like you did before the flashback and you could feel an insurmountable amount of warmth pooling into your heart as you could get another glimpse at those mystifying eyes, staring right back at you through the reflection with what you could only describe as a sleepy yet deep affection.
The shiver that coursed through your spine really broke you from your daze and with it you tried to wipe the bittersweet image out of your mind. Why did it all give you this feeling of loneliness? You were used to being by yourself. Being independent was all you knew. Was it sad?
.
.
.
Yes. But you could always blame it on “high standards”- the idea of your perfect prince charming coming up and sweeping you off your feet but with age you started to know better.
Freshly washed and dressed, you set out to start the day with some light cleaning before heading into town for your weekly grocery trip. Laundry sorted, yesterday’s dishes washed and shelves dusted was all that you focused on while putting away anything that was in your way when. You were about to get to a shelf that you could only reach on your tiptoes, only to trigger another flashback of your cursed dream.
You were in the same predicament trying to reach the top shelf, grumbling to yourself when another pair of hands reached out from behind you, helping to retrieve the object and once you tried to steal a glance back only to be met by a pair of lips lightly pressed to your cheek, completely obstructing your view. The man was chuckling about something that didn’t quite reach your ears before he separated from your back to offer you the item before turning around the corner. It was as if he was hiding his identity intentionally and yet with another sigh you abandoned the mission so you could trudge towards your bedroom and change into some outside appropriate clothes.
Feeling as if you were about to go insane if in the next minute you didn’t get any fresh air so with neck-breaking speed, you were out the door and onto the familiar streets that led to your trusted supermarket. But you couldn’t help yourself from stealing a second glance at any man that happened to pass you by that had blue eyes, just in case. It was as if you had this heavy hunch that something would happen. As if the dream was some kind of premonition for the day.
The walk to the supermarket seemed to have helped settling your racing heart as you entered through the automatic doors, finally getting back into a rhythm. It was partially because with every face you peeked at extinguished that burning sensation in your chest, as if there was no meaning to that damned dream. Now that you are back to being in line with the average shopper, you started to peruse the aisles, getting everything that you put on a list, carefully planned out the prior day as if you weren’t just going to give into temptation and get a bag of chips or a pack of gummies along the way.
Just when the train of thoughts that plagued you from that morning seemed to leave you alone, you caught with the corner of your eye another pair of blue eyes but this time the gaze felt different. One glimpse alone could make your heart thump loudly inside your ribcage, as if begging to leap out of the cavity and chase the man itself.
Disregarding the list altogether, you set out to follow the man, trying to steal just another peek at him if only to confirm the fact that he was the cause for your heart beating a tad bit too fast and not because you were showing early signs of cardiac problems. From his back profile you could only gauge the fact that he was slightly taller than you, enough to reach the highest shelf in your home with ease. He had a nice, lean physique. Maybe he used to do sports?
The chase ended on the candy aisle when you finally got a good look at his face. His mesmerising blue eyes were scanning over a variety of sweet snacks, laughing quietly to himself, exposing his dimpled smile that drew you deeper in, before he said something. That was when you first noticed the earbuds in his ears- he was talking to somebody else on the phone. His broad shoulders were covered by a striped hoodie that could definitely become your new favourite clothing item in your idyllic scenarios that you involuntarily indulged into now that you could put a face to your problem.
Maybe it was the way you were unabashedly ogling at the brown haired man but he ended his conversation to then quirk a brow at your behavior, and yet that damned smirk never left his lips as he asked:
“Hey, is there something on me? Is it my hair? I knew I should've used some hairspray from Dante before leaving…” He lamented while his fingers combed through his bangs, pushing it back.
No. It was quite the contrary. It was the perfect ratio between messy and purposely styled, the light brown strands framing his lean face. A few moments passed you two by before you mustered the brain capacity to rebuke:
“No, nothing of the sort!”
“Then? Is it because of my good looks?” His tone was infuriatingly cocky, his eyes creasing slightly under the action of his widening smile and that caused your cheeks to redden significantly, unable to formulate a response.
“Wow… now my good looks have a body count… I killed a pretty lady like yourself with them.” With a fake sigh he leaned over the self closest to himself and reached the back of his hand to his forehead. The image was quite comical to say the least. “Double the offense, really…”
“No… I just… you-... have really pretty eyes, that’s all” With the meekest of voices you said the simplest of explanations to your dilemma. That’s all?! That’s all you could come up with after the existential crisis he just caused by just existing?! And pretty eyes! What man would be flattered by the word pretty? But that seemed like just the right word to describe his gaze.
That left him speechless, completely forgetting any cheesy line he was about to throw your way, leaving the two of you in dead silence before he straightened himself, lightly trudging his voice and marvelled: “Well, thanks?”
A minute of awkward silence followed before he took once more the initiative to add:
“I’m Laurance. And who is the fair lady who seems to fancy my eyes?” Sending your way an unexpected yet charming wink.
Stumbling over your syllables you managed to say your name while gripping harder onto your shopping cart for both physical and moral support. He was actually real and he had a name and he was standing in front of you in the candy section, smiling unabashedly at you. Laurance walked smoothly over to you, going around the cart so he lean a bit down and examine your face with a glimmer of knowing something that seemed to pass you before saying:
“Have I met you somewhere before?”
That made your heart stop. Could dreams be linked? Was it some kind of soulmate scenario you always read about in those cheesy yet endearing romance books? It couldn’t be real.
“Because I swear I dreamed of such a walking angel among mortals like you before.” Or maybe it was just a chance for a corny pick-up line…
With the up-tenth resigned sigh you replied:
“I’m sure i’m not the first girl you’ve tried this one.”
“You wound me so… to assume such a vulgar thing when I, a mere knight, only wants to impress this gilded princess…” To emphasise his point he placed his palm over where his heart would reside, that same palm who could envelop yours into and eyes closed fluttering the long lashes up in the air.
It seemed like silence was the most common reoccurrence in this conversation and only once the proclaimed ‘knight’ opened one eye up to peek at your expression, gauging your reaction that you reached into your jean pocket to retrieve your sacred phone offering it explaining.
“We can exchange numbers and you might make this ‘gilded princess’ accept your cheesy tricks.”
“We have a deal, princess!” Maybe fate was somewhat real.

Laurance X Reader
One Night Stand
Tumblr media
First post, hope you enjoy 😧🙈
Laurance X Reader
TW: NSFW, bad writing (?) 🥲 (Kawaii-Chan)
Laurance Zvahl.
You had always been one to find him annoying. From the way he carried himself, always with confidence and sunshine surrounding him. From the way he smirked and talked so flirtatious that it caused your stomach to twist in turn in so many ways.
You especially hated the way he was always there. No matter where you went, it’s as if the two of you were connected. At parties, at dinners, at the store, at a festival. He was even there when you were still in highschool, at Phoenix Drop High.
But the worst of all, was when he stared. He never really talked to you or anything but it felt as if he were always staring at you.
Of course, this may you feel shy and a bit nervous. I mean, who wouldn’t be right? He didn’t notice your blush either, right?
You had been attending one of Kawaii-Chan’s parties when Laurance suddenly approached you. Usually you would see him flirt with girls with such confidence, but when he tried talking to you, it seemed as if he was stumbling over his words and stuttering. His hands fiddled and crunched the red cup occasionally.
You stared at him, somewhat jealous by the way he was able to be so fine. Yet you found his demenaor amusing, intrigued by the way he acted around you. His clear blue eyes would occasionally flicker up to your face,
The next thing you knew, he was at your house, pinning your hands above your head. He was letting out trembling breaths as your entire body quivered.
The both of you were so close together. So close.
“Fuck, I never thought..” He started, squeezing his eyes as he blinked before focusing back on you. He didn’t finish his sentence as his eyes found their way to where the both of you connected, your pussy greedily sucking him in. He muttered something to himself, admiring the view.
One of his hands was pinning both of your wrists together against the headboard of your bed. The room smelled of skin and desire. There was clothes scattered all over the floor, showing the excitement.
You scrunched your eyes at him, suddenly moaning as he gave you a teasing thrust. “Laurance..” You called out, sighing his name deliciously.
That caused him to shudder, leaning down to feverishly kiss you. His hand reached up to cup your face. His touch was gentle as he kissed you.
He was a good kisser. You wondered where he learnt to kiss that well before he leaned back and stared at your disheveled state.
His eyes were swirling with a mix of desire but also adoration. You became nervous again, glancing away from his gaze. It felt as if he were studying you, watching you for a long time as if this may be the only time he’ll ever get this close to you.
“I love when you say my name,” he mumbles, leaning down to place another mark on your body.
With his lips on your skin, he just caused you to crumble and melt onto your messy bed. You wanted to scratch his back or anything but you’d already learned your lesson with that as your hands greedily tried to escape his grasp.
You couldn’t help but buck your hips at him, growing frustrated by the way he was teasing you. He had already come into multiple condoms already.
Wasn’t he exhausted already?
You stared up at him, your breathing heavy and tired. “Laurance-“ he groaned “-Fuck me please. Make me come,” you plead out sweetly, not knowing your limits.
His soft brown hair was plastered against his forehead, slight sweat dripping down his face and chest, making him glow under the moonlit sky. I wanted to touch him and I tried to reach over but his hand tugged me back into his restraint.
He chuckled at your words, causing your mind to turn a bit fuzzy.
“As you wish, m’lady,” he left a tender kiss on my neck, smirking as he leaned back.
You were about to reprimand him about such a name but he already began to pound into you, causing you to shut your mouth. Your hands clenched around each other, your back arching as he began to ravish you.
Moans slid right past your mouth, high pitched hiccups along with those as he leaned down and pressed his lips against your skin once again. You hummed, savoring the moment.
Finally, he let go of your hands and as soon as they were free, they went straight to his face, to his chest, or to his arms. His hands glided and gently squeezed your waist, admiring your gleaming skin.
His hips moved at a steady pace. Fast and passionate was his style as his grunted with each thrust. You whimpered at each thrust, each time the tip of his cock touched your sweet spot, it caused you to squeeze your eyes and clench your jaw.
“You’re so pretty..” Laurance whispered huskily, groaning as your hands went to scratch his bag again. This time he didn’t pull you away but he did bite down on your neck, a curse slipping past your lips as he did so.
“So precious..” he moaned, his face centimeters away from yours.
His forehead was pressed against yours, his breath brushing against your lips. His eyes locked with yours as you fluttered your eyes open to stare up at his presence.
“Laurance.. I’m close,” you sob, feeling overstimulated and coming faster than the previous times.
Your legs were tightly wrapped around his waist, afraid you might fall through your bed and into the nothing if you let go. He whispered something unintelligible, your mind blurry as you felt a knot form in your stomach, tightening faster and tighter.
He moaned, pressing his body against yours.
Tears started to well up in your eyes, beautifully rolling down your face. Laurance watched you with furrowed brows, kissing the tears away with such tenderness that you forgot he wasn’t yours.
But for tonight, he’s yours. And you’re his.
You threw your head back, whining his name as you gasped at each pounding thrust. With each thrust, the bed creaked. With each thrust, your heart hiccuped. With each thrust, your need for him grew stronger.
“You feel so good,” he mumbled against your skin, peppering soft kisses against your face.
Finally, you felt your entire soul leave your body for a moment, going into a state of nothing but heavenly bliss. With you, was Laurance and his presence. His eyes brought you back and you came, gripping onto his shoulders with so much pressure it may have left bruises.
He also came, a low moan leaving his soft lips as he did so. His voice vibrated against your skin, causing you to shudder and collapse onto your bed.
The both of you stayed like that for a long moment, laying together. He admired you, watching as you closed your eyes and breathed heavily.
He chuckled before pulling back. “You’re not going to sleep, are you?” He smirked, pulling out of you which made you feel empty and clenching around nothing.
Suddenly everything came back to you and you instantly felt shy, grabbing onto the discarded blanket on the floor and wrapping your body up in it. “I-.. no?” You whispered cheekily.
He stared at me for a few moments as he threw the condom away before shaking his head with a laugh. You blushed, watching as he put some his boxers on.
You looked away, squeezing your eyes shut as you burrowed your face into your pillow. What just happened.
You felt a hand gently travel down your back, causing you to look at Laurance and watch as his amused expression teased you. You blushed once again and hid your face in your blanket, pulling it over your head.
“Aren’t you going to shower or.. something?” You asked, your muffled voice making its way through your blanket.
He shrugged, laying down in your bed with you. “I don’t think so, I just wanna lay here and sleep.”
You hummed, feeling the blanket be pulled down to reveal your face. His breath hitched, his eyes darting all over your face as he watched you. You furrowed your brows, looking away.
“You’re disgusting,” you fake gagged, giggling as he feigned a playful offense to it.
“Right, right. Then why don’t you shower with me?” He wiggled his brows.
You rolled your eyes, gasping as he picked you up, still butt naked and dragged you into the bathroom. You pressed your body against his, hoping that would hide the view away from him but he blushed instead from the skin on skin contact.
You blushed as well, huffing as you crossed your arms over your chest, hiding.
The door closed and the water turned on.
Extra:
The Next Morning
You walked out of your house, ready to go to work when suddenly you felt a presence behind you. You turned around quickly, getting into a defensive stance when you realized it was Kawaii-Chan.
“Oh, Kawaii-Chan, it’s you,” you sighed in relief.
“What are you doing here?” you asked, looking at her strangely.
She had this cheeky grin on her face. You narrowed your eyes at her, crossing your arms. “What’s the matter?”
“Oh nothing.” She smiled suspiciously.
“But Kawaii-Chan may or may not have seen Laurance-Kun and (Y/N)-Senpai sneak off last night at she party,” she giggled to your horror.
“Don’t worry, Kawaii-Chan is not mad,” she said, raising a finger up to her lips before scarily walking backwards into a bush.
You stood there in horror, afraid of the things she might do.

How do you think each of the myst men would react if they were gonna be told by their s/o that they were gonna be a dad? (The garroth oneshot of his reaction was so cute)

He’s excited. Of course, he’s excited! You two are having a baby! But there’s a small part of him that fills with dread, and it’s not the idea of you being a mother—no, you’re going to be perfect. It’s the fact that he is going to be a father.
He doesn’t think he won’t love them enough. Hell, this baby is an extension of your and his combined love, how could he not? But he will never forget certain aspects of his father when he was growing up, and while he can never imagine making your kid feel that way, he is still his father’s son. What if he somehow begins to act like his father one day and lets the both of you down? What if, what if… what if?!
A deep, reassuring talk is all he needs, and that anxiousness fades away for his real excitement. He will do everything he can to be the best father he can be, and he’ll be damned if he’s anything less.
GARROTH, Zane, Gene, Aaron, Zenix, Ein (Daddy issues gang!)
Tumblr media
Bro gets so excited, he lifts you in his arms and runs around the house like he just scored the winning point on the most intense sports game of his life. It takes you shrieking for him to stop when he realizes maybe he shouldn’t necessarily toss around the woman who is actively pregnant with his child, and he sheepishly and gently sets you down.
Still, he practically vibrates in his seat as he talks to you about what this means for the two of you, any technicalities of money or difficulties ahead clearly his last thought. No, you two can figure that one out later. He wants to find out everything, now! Will the baby have your face? His eyes? Will they have his personality? Whatever the case, he’s gonna have a mini version of him and you running around and causing trouble! He’s stoked!
Expect him to yap everyone’s ear off about your pregnancy, from the people you know to the poor cashier at the grocery store just trying to do their job.
BLAZE, Dante, Garroth
Tumblr media
He’s so soft. Oh, so soft. You watch as his eyes gather with tears, his lips crumpling into a watery, grateful smile as his hands land on your stomach. You can’t even bring yourself to be worried about his emotional reaction, though, not when he shakily laughs as he leans forward to press kisses on your face, quiet whispers of thank yous in between. Don’t expect to go anywhere after giving him the news, because this sap is going to hold you in his arms and whisper how much he loves you and your baby until you’re absolutely sick of it.
His reaction honestly is the most calming, any anxieties you may have now quelled into just a future problem that you know you won’t have to solve alone. After all, knowing your child will have a father so full of love and care, what could you complain about?
JEFFORY, DANIEL, Rylan, Garroth
Tumblr media
He is locked in. House? Already baby proofed. He’s ordering the best quality equipment, setting up a baby registry, and researching every new parent forum he can find, all within a few hours of you telling him. Bad habits? Consider them gone. Any lingering alcohol or cigarettes are thrown out, and the house is clean. Can’t be a bad influence on the baby, after all.
Anything you need during the pregnancy, he’s either already one step ahead of you or rushing out the door to get whatever you want as soon as the words leave your lips. The older ladies around you awe at his dedication, teasing you about how jealous they were. He’s so perfect! They wish they could’ve had a husband so diligent when they were pregnant with their kids!
He merely shrugs it off, shaking his head. After all, it’s the least he can do for the love of his life, especially when you’re carrying the proof of your love.
LAURANCE, Gene, Zane, VYLAD, Aaron
Tumblr media
thefatherofyourchild.exe has stopped working. He’s gone. The words, “I’m pregnant,” leave your lips as he stares down at the positive pregnancy test, but there’s not a thought on his face. Is he even breathing? No. No, he’s not. His lips are parted like a fish out of water, eyes wide and very far from holding any train of thought on this earth. Careful, he might start drooling soon.
After a few calls of his name and waving your hand worriedly in front of his face, he finally snaps back to you, a wheezed, “holy shit,” leaving his lips. He looks like he could possibly pass out, and you may have to shake his shoulders to get him to focus again.
This shock honestly doesn’t leave him; every reminder that you’re pregnant makes him freeze and stare in absolute awe and shock, and honestly, he'll keep doing it after the baby is born.
“Babe. I’m a father,” he whispers as he stares down at your newborn, a whole hour after their birth.
“...No shit?!”
ZENIX, Dante, Travis, Ein, Daniel
Tumblr media
You think you’re surprising him. But oh, no. No no. He’s had this all planned out since the beginning. As soon as you tell him, he’s pulling out a whole notebook with baby names, nursery ideas, tips he’s heard from other parents and the internet, how to make your pregnancy the most comfortable, etc.
Now it’s your turn to be the surprised one as he yaps to you about how he’s already planned out a savings account for their college fund, future trips to take them on, and the kinds of things he wants to teach them about life. He’s wanted to have a family with you the very moment he realized he was in love with you, and now he can indulge in showing you every one of his notes and Pinterest boards without looking crazy. Cause, you know, it’s not like he was plotting on starting a family with you for years or something… (he was).

pairing: laurance x romeavesister!reader
a/n: I don’t know what this is I wrote it like two years ago when I was obsessed with him and only used wattpad for reading… in all its lowk really cringe lmao
content/summary: cliche younger sister x brothers bestfriend dynamic, laurance being a complete “casanova” flirty freak, me writing my heart out to fulfill my delusions of being loved gently, overprotective garroth, fluff? takes place in pdh
total word count: 454 words
uhh kind of new to all this so don’t flame me for the above content thingy
"no! i never said thattt~" y/n mused, playfully punching the brunette who was about a whole foot and a half taller than her. his bright icy eyes squinted as he smiled down at her, locking eye contact.
laurance and y/n had met after garroth introduced him as his bestfriend in middle-school. y/n and laurence hadn't really gotten close until y/n's freshman year of high school.
even though y/n had been in the year below the boys, they constantly hung out together.
laurence invited y/n to the park to hangout, alone. he had now offered to walk her home.
"y/n." laurence brought his hands around y/n's, bringing her fist up to kiss her knuckles. watching y/n's face heat up brought a smug grin to laurence's face.
the brunette's hands were soft, they were gentle with the smaller girl's.
"laurence... w-whats this?" y/n melted under laurence's gaze as he towered over her.
y/n always saw how laurence made girls swoon under his charm, not to mention she was secretly one of those girls. though, she covered it up by playfully teasing him about his flirting.
this was EXTREMELY different from his usual casanova charm.
besides the fact that the charm had never been used directly towards y/n. actually that was the main fact, the fact was that the chestnut haired boy was flirting.. flirting with y/n.
"I've wanted to talk to you about something for a while now..." laurence clasped her hand in his own, causing y/n to tense up.
no way. y/n's face grew even hotter as she internally screamed.
"I really like you." laurence stroked y/n's hand with his thumb.
"i..." y/n mumbled, her face now as red as fire and as hot as it.
"i like you too, laurence.."
laurence's eyes widened, like he actually thought she would reject him. he let go of her hands to pull her closer into him, he tucked her hair behind her ear. leaning forward towards her ear he whispered,
"y/n, may i kiss you?"
the soft whisper excited y/n, and before she knew it she closed a gap between her and the brunette.
oh. my. gosh. it was happening. now. all infront of her own eyes, and garroth's.
"LAURENCE!"
the brunette pulled away to see a fuming blond across the street. frantically sprinting towards the two.
"laur..." she ran her fingers through his hair with a smile,
"you should start running."
the chestnut haired boy nodded and smirked, quickly pecking her cheek before abruptly running down the block.
"IM GONNA CUT OFF YOUR HANDS, LAURENCE! POSSIBLY YOUR TONGUE TOO!" garroth screamed as he chased laurence.

LOOKING AFTER YOU
pairing : mystreet travis, laurance x gn reader synopsis : your boyfriend takes care of you while you're on your period! tags : periods, cramps, comfort, cuddling, support word count : 1.2k | around 550 words for each one! a/n : as someone who ends up reading comfort fics of my favorite characters comforting me on my period while cramping, i thought this was a really fun request to right! hopefully this can bring some comfort to someone while they're in pain! - just going to clarify that this is still gender neutral! the only thing that is physically canon within this is having a period, but that does not define the gender of the reader!
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Like clockwork, your time of the month had come.
I mean, it wasn’t like you were that shocked, as your calendar predicted it would come any day now. But… did it have to be today? Really? The day that you and your boyfriend were planning on going on a date?
I mean, come on!
You hadn’t even gone to the bathroom to check the bloody mess you probably caused, knowing you’d have to move around to clean it.
And your bones just ached.
You found yourself lying in bed, groaning, as a familiar voice knocked at your door.
Shit.
Tumblr media
TRAVIS
“Hey, babe? You okay?” Travis called from behind the door.
A particular strong cramp hit you just as you were about to respond, causing your voice to waver and sound almost cracked.
“Y-Yep! Just peachy…”
There was a bit of silence as Travis processed how you sounded.
After a few seconds passed, he asked. “Can I come in?” He slowly turned the handle, ready to open the door but pausing to hear your response.
“Fine…” The word was drawn out, mumbled as you turned to your other side, squeezing your pillow.
As he opened the door, he saw you curled up on your bed, your hair frizzy after the amount of tossing and turning you’ve done ever since you woke up.
He quickly rushed over to the side of the bed, kneeling down. “What’s wrong?” He worriedly put a hand to your forehead, looking for a temperature. “Do you feel overheated?”
“No need, Travis. I’m not sick.” You made what sounded to be an inhuman noise as you turned over onto your other side to face him. “I’m just on my period. These cramps are killing me.”
He blinked twice before running to the bathroom, opening up the bottom cabinet and frantically looking for any menstruation products he could find.
He came back with boxes of tampons and pads stacked in his hands, laying them down on your dresser. He began lifting each up, reading the labels to find ones for heavy flow for your first day.
“Let’s see… thin, overnight, swimming…” He kept looking over the boxes, picking up several ones that seemed good for first day flows. “Do you want pads or tampons?”
You groaned out your answer and he nodded, grabbing the box and placing it next to you on the nightstand.
You grabbed his arm and pulled him in, wanting a sense of pressure (his arms) around you.
Travis got the message almost instantly and crawled across the bed, curling in next to you.
He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close and putting pressure on the exact spot you needed it most.
As he put his head into the crook of your neck, he snuggled against you. “You know, you’re going to have to get up eventually.”
You frowned at the thought. “But I don’t want to walk to the bathroom…” You groaned, stuffing your face into the pillow.
“Well then.” He released you from his arms and got off the bed. “How about I just carry you there?” “What-”
Before you could answer, the man already picked you up, passing you the box you chose earlier, and walked towards the bathroom.
“T-Travis! What are you doing?”
He smiled at you as he placed you down on the lidded toilet seat. “You said you didn’t want to walk over here, right? Well, problem solved.” He then turned the shower on, making sure it was just the right temperature before he headed to the door. “I’ll go make your bed so we can cuddle when you’re out. And if you need anything else, don’t be afraid to ask, okay?”
“But what about our date-”
“Don’t worry, we can always reschedule.” He reached for the door handle, winking at you. “Besides, I prefer to spend the rest of the day cuddling with you instead!”
Tumblr media
LAURANCE
“Laurance…” You groaned his name from your bed.
He slowly opened the door at your call, worriedly peaking in before pushing the door open.
As he looked at you curled up in a ball, he sat on the side of the bed, petting your head. “Cramps, huh?”
You nodded, inhaling sharply as your insides felt like they were twisting.
“I’m going to get you some Advil and heat up your heating pad, alright?” He wasted no time and quickly made his way out of the room, heading for the kitchen.
He hurriedly put the heating pad in the microwave and fetched you the bottle of Advil from the cabinet. He tapped his foot as he hummed a tune, waiting for the heating pad to finish heating up in the microwave.
On his way back, he made sure to grab a water bottle too. He didn’t want you to get dehydrated now, did he?
It wasn’t long before he came back to your room with both hands full of the items, smiling warmly.
It felt like Irene truly blessed you by giving you such a caring man.
He helped you sit up, opening the bottle cap for you and passing you the water as you took the medicine, before finally placing the heating pad on your abdomen. You couldn’t help but sigh as you leaned back against your pillow.
This man would hold the world up for you if it meant you were comfortable, huh?
You scooched in, patting the space next to you, welcoming Laurance into your bed.
He giggled at the sight before laying down next to you, pulling the covers over himself. Laurance quickly wrapped his hands around your waist, holding you tightly. The pressure against you felt almost heaven sent.
“You know, I think this is better than going out on a date.” He nuzzled his face into your hair. “Just the two of us cuddling in bed for who knows how long… I prefer it like this.”
You hummed onto the sheets, before turning yourself around so you could shove your face into his neck. “Mhm… I’m sorry for ruining our date, though.”
Laurance snickered. “How is this your fault in the first place? What, did you manually turn a bleeding switch on or something?”
“No… it’s just that we had everything planned out, with reservations and-”
“Well, we can have just as much fun at home compared to going out to eat.” Laurance grinned, pulling out his phone and opening YouTube. “We can have our own make-shift date right now! Do you want to watch something to help distract you from your cramps?”
You snuggled closer to your boyfriend, humming in agreement as you begin to watch a bunch of funny cat videos.
By the time the videos finished, your Advil had kicked in and you were feeling way better.
You turned to tell Laurance but found him fast asleep, head against your shoulder, breathing softly.
He looked downright adorable.
It wouldn’t be so bad if you took a picture of him like this… right?
You reached over him, trying to get your phone from the nightstand, when all of the sudden you hear him stir, mumbling your name.
With his arms still around you, you were pulled down against the bed as he pulled you to his chest.
The way his arms slid around your back just felt too good to be true.
He makes your cramps just a little bit better.

Hey there! I really like your blog (っᵔ◡ᵔ)っ · 💐 🥞
Would it be okay if I requested the mcd boys x sick reader, please?
Also, what does your fan base call you?
Hey there bun!!!!!! Long time no see!!!!
You are so incredibly sweet!! Absolutely of course you can have those headcanons, just what I needed!
I don't think i have a fan base lmfaooo but your so sweet for saying so!!! I go by Mello here on the interwebs! You are all free to call me so ^^.
Since you didn't specify a gender reader will be G/N, and since you didn't specify anyone I'm just gonna throw whatever man strikes my fancy in the moment at this lmfao,
Warnings: Sickness of various variety hopefully... i remember to come back and edit this as I write and go-
Without further ado! Let's get into it!
Tumblr media
Worry Wart.
Like honestly, almost immeadite panic based on how sick you are.
Like seriously has a internal crisis about whether to take care of you or do his actual JOB
After all the village can't reeeaaallly function without the lord and head guard all day out of nowhere.
Like your laying in bed, sick as a dog, head feeling like your getting squeezed in a vice.
You can see Garroth standing in the doorway, wearing his basic linens for under his armor. His eyebrows are pinched, and he's worrying his lip between his teeth. And it's just so clear he's having a violent internal conflict over abandoning all his duties to care for you.
You have to be the responsible lord and tell him to go, that you'll be fine on your own.
Otherwise your village will be in disarray and you'll have people rushing in, in a panic.
He is very hesitant to leave, asks if you're sure, and leaves all while looking at you with the most pitiful wettest blue eyes you've seen.
Hes back at your shared room within the hour.
Your immeaditly just like 'S I r. What are you doing back here???'
But is it any suprise when he sits at the side of your bed with a cold damp cloth and tenderly wipes the sweat from your feverish form before placing it across your forehead.
All while assuring you in a whisper, he could *never* have left you alone miserable and in pain, that he only left long enough to give instruction to his second in command to ensure Pheonix drop could run easily until you feel well.
.....
Andalsotogetadvicefromdonnaresidentnursecoughcough
Garroth is gentlemen through and through and takes very good care of you.
He will NOT kiss or cuddle with you tho when your sick, major red flag of him (jk)
Due to his royal upbringing he wasn't exposed to illness a ton as a kid so, his immune system?? Shit. If what you have is airborne he will be bedbound twice as long as you lol.
Please don't pout or bed though he is a WEAK man and you will see him going through all 7 stages of grief in record time every single time.
If you reach out for him in bed and your voice break a little with just a tiny 'please..' he nearly bursts into tears about it.
When you wear down his incredibly weak resolve he will start sleeping in a chair next to your bed holding your hand.
As if that's any better for his health, the loser lmfao.
Point is 9/10. Love him.
Tumblr media
Oh Laurance, Laurance...
The moment you start coughing, he looks over with a raised eyebrow and asks if you feel alright
And obviously, you brush him off because come on, laurance, it's just a little coughing. I probably need water or something.
Yeah, the next day you're in coughing fits so bad, curled over, and you feel like your ribs may crack.
Laurance is ushering you back to bed. And albeit playfully, scolding you for even TRYING to go about your business in this state. I mean no offense obviously your the most breathtaking person he's ever seen but you look horrible.
Laurance doesn't even entertain the idea of leaving. Poor Garroth (or if this is while he's a head of Metelli his second hand) has to storm into the house demanding to know if everything's okay and why he's shirked duties.
Laurance just looks over and very casually is like ' oh yeah I'm going to be out for a while something more important has come up, you understand keep it covered only get me if it's a real emergency thanks'
And you don't have a choice here, now he's not going to straight up neglect his duties he loves you but he's also very serious about his guard work. But Metelli has a excess of guards and he's not the head at Pheonix drop, he knows Garroth can handle it without him for a while. So there's no need for you to feel guilty.
Just lay back and let him take care of you love <3 yeah?
He will cuddle and smooch you even while your sick, the cuddling is obvious but you will have to ask for a kiss anywhere more than the forehead.
He also takes your temperature by pressing his lips to your forehead every time
The tease, single handedly rasing your temperature
He's also the best cook so.... you are eating WELL fresh and from scratch.
10/10 but do we expect anything less
Oh yeah also even before he became a shadowknight and therefore couldn't get mortal sicknesses cause his body runs to hot for most viruses to survive. He just as a guy had a STUPIDLY great immune system. So he just doesn't get sick no matter how I'll you are and it's kind of infuriating.
Tumblr media
Okay party people, this one... it depends. lmfaooo
Your request was specfically for being *sick* so I can only assume that means have a virus or infection of some kind, a bug if you will.
Which is VERY different from like.. recovering from a injury or like... morning sickness or something.
Which i will write if people want it but anyway.
Sorry Pookies he's not going to be personally there holding your hand or feeding you soup.
Germs and sickness freak him out and he wants nothing to do with it at all. He won't even sleep or hang in the same ROOM as you.
He arranges for only the best care though. And OH Irene help and preserve that entire staff team if he hears the staff are treating you in anyway he deems... unfit.
You'll have a full new staff within half an hour
All MUCH to afraid to treat you in a way that didn't reflect divine reverence.
Yeah... Zanes is rather short because he's pretty absent.
He makes sure to get reports on how you are frequently.
But once you're better, you can expect a lavish gift
Also, he's more likely to end work early and go to sleep the same time you do when your better.
He won't admit it but he missed your warmth beside him.

Oh Travis my sweet boy!! Welcome to being included in the fics mwah.
This might be controversial (I hope not, tho)
Travis would be the best in this regard.
He has a freaky 6th sense for knowing three days before you get sick, that your *gonna* get sick.
Like your feeling just fine and you look over and he's running around and already prepping for you to be sick.
Reading books on it, making medicine, meal planning etc. Etc.
Oh yeah I MEANT making medicine, mfer goes out and forager for his remedies to any and all ailments.
He takes top notch care of you. Diagnoses you easily, lays you to rest, spoon feeds you, lightly wipes your sweat away, supports you through enough exercise to keep your strength and whispers encouragement.
My advice... don't ask how he knows to do this.
Even through fever its heartbreaking to hear him explain how he had to care for not only himself but... when she was alive... his mother.
All alone on that mountain... everytime he got sick he had no one to brush his hair... clean his sick... make his meals.
In order to survive that... you have to learn to figure it out...get ahead of it prepare what you need so you don't have to scavenge through it.
He will NEVER let you go through that alone. Not while he lives.

Well hello and welcome to the club Aaron
well, my version of you anyway.
Aaron is a good man, but he's also a very focused and fleeting man.
What does that mean? Oh just that he is not sticking by your side unless you are actively journeying with him on his quest for revenge.
Even if he cares deeply for you, your already in.... well... honestly i hate to use this term for medieval fantasy but its more a situation ship then a relationship. He has.. a VERY hard time handling the idea of being with someone else after his wife.
If you fall ill at a village, perhaps your the lord.. something is tying you where you are.
Your not going to see alot of Aaron im so sorry pookie.
When you don't show up where he normally sees you he will pop up.
He went to ask what happened but... he can tell just from looking at you . If your asleep, he watches for a moment... taking in your gaunt state and letting it sink into himself that your still breathing and then he leaves.
You'll wake up to a little vial of medication on your bedside.
How often you see Aaron after that depends on what he was doing there, he's not putting his plans on hold for you.
If hes able to stay in the village and investigate he will. Checking in on you occasionally and bringing you medicine.
But...if he needs to leave to pursue Zane.... He will leave you Medicine and a note telling you to stay safe.. don't look for him... He will try to come back to you but... if its over a year don't wait for him.
Yeah Aaron totally what a sick person wants to read.
For him though....leaving a note is a big deal. Anyone else he would have just vanished.
Now! However! if you are actively travelling with him for any reason, he can NOT just stomach leaving you while your sick.
SO he does stop.. works on setting up a more long term camp. Reinforces the tent, sets up a fire pit, and makes a Cooking spit.
He takes care of you.. kind of, he thinks you should have some layer of independence even when your sick so he will still have you do some tasks on your own.
For him its very a 'just in case, you need to capable. What if next time i'm not here?'

Jeffory Golden Heart What a sweetheart.
He won't find out you're sick till about midday.
When Abby's teacher shows up to his Patrol to tell him that you never showed up to pick her up from school.
Which instantly worries Jeffory because that's very unlike you, if you weren't able to pick up Abby for some reason you would tell him even with his early hours.. A note or at dinner before.
He has to hold back at jumping to any conclusions, hoisting up Abby on to his shoulders and heading back to your shared home while chatting about her day to keep her at ease.
He has a million thoughts in his mind working with Zane...its hard not to he finds himself hoping that you had a lapse in memory, that this was going to end with him mildly annoyed over anything else.
But he arrives to your Home and when he calls out your name he hears just a pitiful little croak he S P R I N T S through the house to your bedroom where, he doesn't see some horrible crime scene but you in bed, flushed and clearly miserable and he just feels all his muscles relax.
Jeffory is so sweet, but he can't care for you as much as he wants to with Jury of nine duty and caring for Abby, but he still makes sure when he's not on duty your getting his attention, his poor sick little dove he makes soup, washes and brushes your hair, and brings in the best doctor O'khasis has and once your cleared as non contagious he pulls Abby into the tasks so you can have even more care.
Help making the soup, help braiding your hair, and reading stories at your side.
You get two caretakers for the price of one with this one.

Scaleswind was a grand city with towering buildings and beautiful architecture. Your mother used to tell you stories about Irene and where she was from. Scaleswind was one the cities your mother visited the most, the other being O’Khasis. Standing in the same city the goddess was born and raised was a surreal experience you never thought you’d have.
“Aphmau!” Laurance called. You turn your head, coming out of your awestruck stupor as he stepped away from you. “Aphmau!”
A woman with hair as dark as pitch turned her head. Although you were far from her, you watched her gasp and run towards Laurance, her arms opening to embrace him as she came closer.
“Laurance!” she shouted. Her arms wrapped around Laurance in a tight hug when she got close enough to pull him in. She was significantly shorter than him, needing to lift her heels off the ground just a bit to properly reach his shoulders. When she pulled away, she held him by the shoulders. “Where did you go? You ran off after we left that castle. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Aphmau,” he replied. You watched as he took hold of her hands and squeezed them. “You know I can take care of myself.”
Aphmau exhaled. She squeezed Laurance’s hands back, her brows pulled together. “You worried me sick. Nicole found me after you ran off and told Katelyn and I to come here and wait for you.”
“I apologize for making you worry.” Laurance gave Aphmau a soft smile, which she returned. Watching them, you felt as though you were interrupting a moment meant to be private.
Were they together? The way she had been so worried and the way Laurance was looking down at her made you think so, but he hadn’t mentioned being in a relationship in your hours of talking.
You said goodbye to whatever hope of romance you had delusioned yourself into having with him when Aphmau turned to you. She must have seen you shift uncomfortably behind Laurance from her peripheral.
She smiled widely. The stare she had been gazing at Laurance with was gone, replaced by a warm greeting. She let go of Laurance’s hands to give you a soft wave, which you awkwardly returned.
“Oh, right.” Laurance turned to you, holding a hand out as he introduced you. “Aphmau, this is Y/n. I met her yesterday and she tagged along.”
You gave Aphmau a smile and said, “A pleasure to meet you.”
Aphmau returned your smile and bowed her head, bending slightly at the knees in a curtsy. “The pleasure is mine. How did you come across Laurance? He tends to be impossible to find when people are looking for him.” Aphmau side-eyed him.
You chuckled. “Uhm, he more so happened upon me,” you said, but you hesitated to say the rest. Laurance’s reaction to you in your tower had been . . . interesting. How would someone else react?
Aphmau caught on to your hesitation, and she tilted her head. “How?”
You awkwardly scratched the side of your neck. What was the least outing way to say it?
“It’s complicated,” you settled on.
“She lives in a tower,” Laurance said. You deadpanned, glaring at him. “Basically alone, with no real way in or out.”
Aphmau furrowed her brows, her mouth falling agape. “I . . . What? A tower?” You reluctantly nodded. “If there’s no way in then how did Laurance get in? And then how did you two get out?”
“I climbed the side,” he said. You nodded in confirmation. “And then Y/n tried threatening me with a kitchen knife.”
“Well,” you cut in, defensive. You didn’t want her to think you were dangerous. “If you were in my position you would have done the same.”
Aphmau raised a brow, her confusion evident as her gaze flicked between you and Laurance. “Huh?”
Laurance waved her off. “I’ll tell you later. Did you find anything about Irene?”
“Katelyn and I started looking, but the library here is so big and there are so many religious texts. We barely scratched the surface and could only manage to find a few books that might relate to the relic.”
You were confused. This conversation felt like you had been thrown in the deep end and needed to figure out how to make sense of what was going on in order to talk to them. But you felt a strange pull to Aphmau. Something about her presence was . . . Pure. Untainted by any evil or ill intent. It felt as though a string connected the two of you somehow, and standing close to her made that string give a gentle tug.
“Irene, I wish Emmalyn were here. She would be on top of this in a minute,” Aphmau groaned, running a hand through her pin straight hair. She softly huffed before turning her full attention back to you. “Say, do you have anywhere to go?”
“Not really,” you said, your voice soft. It was embarrassing now to admit now that you were actually doing it. You hadn’t realized how humbling it would be to say you knew no one. “I’ve been kind of pinning on the fact that Laurance has been with me. There wasn’t really a plan for . . . after.”
Which you now realized was dumb. Had you really been so excited to get out of your tower that you were only focused on the present and the immediate gratification that followed? Maybe your mother was right and you were too naïve to be in the world on your own.
“Is it alright if she stays with us?” Laurance asked. “It’ll be just for a little bit, right?” Laurance looked to you and you nodded.
“Of course.” Aphmau met your gaze, nodded. “Absolutely, if you want to. Laurance, Katelyn and I are probably gonna stay in Scaleswind for a little bit, but you can absolutely stay with us. I’m sure Nicole wouldn’t mind.”
“Hey, lady.”
Aphmau jumped at the sound of the voice. When she turned to look behind her, she revealed a child, maybe seven or eight, with messy blue hair looking up at her.
“My mom wants you,” the boy said to her. He pointed behind him, where you noticed a red headed woman speaking with a man that had cat ears. “She says someone you might know is in the caravan over there.”
Aphmau furrowed her brows, her gaze flicking up to where the red headed woman stood. She squinted, trying to see better, before letting out a breath. “Okay, I’ll go over. Hey, Dmitri? Do you mind taking Laurance and Y/n here back to the house?”
Dmitri nodded, looking between you and Laurance. He waited until Aphmau bid Laurance goodbye and started walking away to beckon you and Laurance to follow him.
The two of you did, though you hardly looked straight ahead as you walked. Instead, you focused on the buildings around you. All the people bustling around in the far off marketplace and the pairs of friends taking strolls through the city. You faintly smiled. You had never seen this many people before, and being around it gave you a boost of happiness, despite the headache that had accumulated near your temples.
You followed Dmitri into a building across from a church. He led you up staircases and through more rooms than you could count before he stopped in front of a door and turned back.
“Laurance, this room is yours,” he said, pointing to the closed door. “My mom said you like being by yourself, so she gave you the room furthest from everyone.”
Laurance let out an amused breath. “Nicole said that?”
Dmitri nodded, and then he turned to you. “Lady—“
“Y/n,” you interjected, but he kept talking.
“—no one said anything about you coming, so you don’t have a room. Sorry.”
You pressed your lips together. Were children always so blunt? “It’s alright. No one knew I was coming, so I don’t mind,” you said, forcing the corners of your lips up into a kind smile.
“You can rest in my room for now, if you’d like,” Laurance offered. “I need to talk to Aphmau and Katelyn about a few things before I can, so the room will be empty.”
You nodded, appreciative of Laurance’s offer. You weren’t sure if you’d take it, you wanted to explore the town a bit, but your headache was getting worse by the second. What had been a faint throb was now a stabbing pain, and it hurt to blink.
“Thank you,” you softly said, though your voice sounded muffled to your own ears. “I’ll see you later, then?”
Laurance gave you a nod, and turned to leave. As he did, your vision blurred. You placed your hand on the doorknob to steady yourself and turned it, black spots cascading across your line of sight quickly. You weren’t even able to process what was happening before you hit the floor.
The warm compress laid across your forehead was the first sense of feeling you got when you gained consciousness. The next thing you felt was the soft blanket beneath your fingertips. Your head didn’t hurt nearly as much anymore. It was just softly throbbing now.
You let out a soft, distressed breath. It felt like something heavy was weighing down on your chest, though you couldn’t imagine what it was. Your eyes slowly fluttered open, the bright light of the room making a sharp pain shoot through your head. When that subsided and you were able to fully open your eyes, you were met with the sight of green vines, wisteria flowers hanging from them, crawling across the ceiling.
What?
When you flexed your hand, trying to get the tense muscles to relax, the vines grew and the flowers bloomed more fully.
No, you thought. The last time this had happened you had been out for three days. Your mother had been trying to wake you with an assortment of her potions and spells. It had been so bad that she had employed the help of her sister, Hyria. After you awoke the three of you were cleaning up the vines around your tower for days, and Hyria was gone after leaving a healing draught for you to drink. That was fifteen years ago—you were eight. You had gotten a headache so bad you could hardly move.
What was triggering that again now?
You huffed out another soft, distressed breath, inspecting the ceiling again. If that’s what the ceiling looked like, then . . .
You turned your head just enough to see the walls, horrified at the sight of flowers and weeds and vines growing out of odd crevices and cracks in the hardwood floors. There was so much foliage that the actual walls were hardly visible beneath it. You could imagine what the floor looked like.
You turned your head to the other side, noticing that Laurance sat in a chair with his head bowed and his eyes closed. When you sat up, grunting softly with the effort, he lifted his head.
He was out of his chair and beside you in a second, placing a hand between your shoulder blades to help you sit up.
“Y/n,” he said. His voice was quiet. You couldn’t tell if that was intentional or if it was still from your headache. “Are you okay? What happened?”
It was hard to catch a good breath. That weight you felt on your chest made you want to keel over and die. “I don’t know,” you breathed, your voice hoarse and tired. Your mouth was dry, and you had to peel your tongue from the roof of your mouth to talk.
“Has that ever happened before?”
You nodded. You swallowed in an attempt to hydrate your mouth before opening your mouth again to speak. Before you could get any words out the room door was pushed open and three people filed in.
Your brows furrowed. Aphmau was first. She was followed by the same red headed woman you had spotted earlier and a tall, young man with glasses. The tall man wore a white coat and carried a clipboard and pen.
“Oh, thank Irene. She’s awake,” Aphmau muttered, running her hands through her hair. She was clearly stressed. Your mother did the same thing when she was.
The tall man was looking around the room in wonder. He must have been a scholar that recently graduated, based on his age. Your mother had told you that the population of Scaleswind included more scholarly minds than any other. She found it annoying anytime she visited because they always wanted to know more.
Curiosity killed the cat, she would always tell you. Those fools will wind up dead before they find what they’re looking for.
She sometimes used that as the excuse to keep you in the tower.
“Have the plants stopped growing?” the man asked. Laurance nodded.
“For the most part,” he said. “A couple more sprouted when she woke up, so I don’t think they’ll really stop. They aren’t growing as rapidly, though.”
The man nodded, noting something down on his clipboard. He mumbled something to himself, but it was incoherent to you. Then, he turned to you.
“Has this happened before?” he asked. He pulled up the chair Laurance had previously been sitting in and sat beside the bed.
You gave a nod, clearing your throat before saying what you meant to when Laurance asked. “Only once. It happened when I was eight, so fifteen years ago.”
“What triggered it that time?”
You shrugged. “I’m not sure, but it happened the same. I got a terrible headache and when I woke up plants covered my tower.”
You saw the red headed woman’s brows pull together from your peripheral, mouthing your words to herself.
The man voiced his thoughts. “Your tower? What do you mean by that?”
“I-“ The words died on your tongue. Your gaze flicked to Laurance, who gave you a soft nod of encouragement. “It’s where I live,” you said, hoping he wouldn’t question any further.
Your hoping was useless. “Was this tower isolated?”
“Yes.”
“Were you able to see other people?”
“My mother.”
“How often did you see her?”
“Maybe once a month?” It was a guess. You didn’t actually know, but she was gone on a trip more often than she was with you.
“And you saw no one else?”
You didn’t respond, but he asked again more insistently.
“Martin,” the redhead interrupted. You were thankful for that. “Is she okay?”
The man—Martin—breathed out. You could see the desire to ask more questions burning in his eyes, but he didn’t. “Based on what she said—which is not sufficient information, by the way, Lady Nicole—I would guess the isolation she’s experienced was a precursor to a depressive state, which—“
“I’m sorry,” you cut in, your gaze cutting between Laurance and Aphmau and Nicole. “Is there any way this can be more private?”
Martin sighed as Nicole turned to Aphmau and Laurance and ushered them out of the room. You weren’t sure why Nicole was staying, but based on her fine clothes and expensive looking jewelry (as well as the way she carried herself), you assumed she was a leader of some kind.
You watched Laurance and Aphmau slip out of the room, and you watched their silhouettes in the door’s window. You watched Laurance reach for Aphmau’s shoulder, taking a gentle hold of her before beckoning her away from the door.
“As I was saying,” Martin continued, now looking at you, “I assume your isolation led to a depressive state, which depleted your health as a result. The neglect you may have done to your body is evident in passing out, but I can’t explain the flowers.” Martin lifted his pen and tapped the end to his chin, looking around. “Tell me, flowers sprouted last time as well?”
“Plants sprouted, but not flowers,” you said. You didn’t have to dig deep to find the details of your memory. You remembered how sore and torn up your hands wound up like yesterday. “It was mostly thorny vines and brambles last time.”
“Interesting.” Martin jotted something down again, mumbling to himself, “Could it be her mental state that affects it? Are the plants even coming from her?”
“Yes, they are mine,” you said. Martin’s gaze snapped back up to you. “My mother is a witch and passed some of her magic to me, but it’s not normally this powerful. I can usually only heal wilted flowers and perform one or two minor spells.”
“Fascinating,” Martin breathed. “So-“
“Martin, is she going to be okay?” Nicole cut in again.
Martin waved her off and she rolled her eyes. “She should be fine. Just make sure she drinks plenty of water and feeds herself sufficiently. Now-“
“You have another appointment, Martin.”
Martin let out a soft breath, pressing his lips together. His gaze lingered on yours before he turned to Nicole. “Yes, my lady.” He bowed his head and stood up, walking towards the door. “Have a good day. Both of you,” he said before clicking the door shut behind him. Nicole breathed out, crossing her arms and turning to you.
“Sorry about him. He recently graduated top of his class from the University of O’Khasis. He was transferred here to further his education, and his professor chose to put him to work as a doctor,” she explained. “I apologize if he asked any personal questions.”
“It’s alright,” you said. You had seen the look in Martin’s eyes. You imagined yours held the same one when looking out your tower window. “You’re Nicole, right?”
She nodded. “Yes. Nicole von Ronsenburg.” She bowed her head. “Lord of Scaleswind, top graduate of the guard academy, descendant of Irene, and a whole bunch of other titles I can never remember.”
You let out a huff of amusement, and she smiled at you when she lifted her head. “Do you feel okay?” she asked.
You nodded. At some point when Martin was asking questions, the headache had subsided. “I’m alright,” you said. You glanced around. “I’m really sorry about all this. I’ll help clean it up.”
Nicole shook her head. “No, no, it’s okay. Believe it or not this isn’t the craziest thing that’s happened to me.” She flashed you another smile. “Besides, I have hired help that would be glad to clean this themselves. They’re so picky.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m positive,” Nicole said. “You need to get rest before you’re too active again. Laurance said he needed to speak to Aphmau, but I’m sure you could find Katelyn somewhere and speak to her.”
You nodded. You didn’t have a clue who Katelyn was, but you weren’t planning on finding her anyway. If you stayed with Laurance long enough, you’d likely meet her.
“Okay. Nicole, I have a question.” There was one more thing you needed to know.
“Yes?” she asked.
“How long was I out?”
Nicole hummed, looking out the window across from the room. “Only a couple hours. I’d say three and a half. Why?”
“Just wondering. Last time I was out for a couple days.”
So it was significantly less time than fifteen years ago.  You wondered what could’ve caused it but drew no conclusion. There was no common event that happened either time, so there was no connection.
None that you knew about, anyway.
“Weird,” Nicole mused. Down the hall, you heard the loud clanking of footsteps drawing near. “Maybe you could find something in our library about it. Scaleswind is-“
“My lady.” Nicole turned her head when the door to your room flew open. A guard stood in the threshold, his hair askew and panic in his eyes. He struggled to catch his breath as he spoke. “They’re back. Those- Those things from earlier are at the gates again.”
Nicole was up in an instant, the chair she sat in scraping against the floor before getting caught on a vine and falling over.
You couldn’t understand the rushed words that spilled from Nicole’s mouth. It was nearly impossible when she walked out of the room and started down the hall, the panicked guard close on her heels. Your brows furrowed in confusion, and you stood from your bed to peek around the corner from the room.
You didn’t know what had happened—you weren’t sure you wanted to know what happened if it evoked that kind of reaction from Nicole. Instead, you took a deep breath before uncovering yourself and standing from the bed, looking around at the room.
You didn’t care what Nicole said about cleaners being glad to help, you would contribute. It would be rude to be such an inconvenience and leave your mess for someone else.
The cleaners weren’t nearly as strict or bossy as Nicole had made them out to be. You helped them peel the vines and flowers from the ceiling and tear up the roots that had made a home in the floorboards. Once they were taken from their places, the plants immediately shriveled up. You found it odd. That didn’t happen last time. What was different now?
At some point, your head had started aching again and you found it difficult to catch a full breath. It only happened for a moment, but it was long enough for the two kind ladies cleaning the room to force you back onto the bed. Your eyes squeezed shut and you softly groaned, waiting to faint again but it never came.
The headache subsided before you even realized it. One moment you were struggling to breathe your head hurt so bad, and the next you were up and about like nothing had happened.
Despite your protests and statements of feeling better, however, you were still pushed to sit at the edge of the bed until the room was cleared of wilted plants and frail flower petals. One of the ladies even went as far as to push you to lie down and cover you with blankets.
You got up when she left, tucking the blankets back where they were meant to be before giving the cleaned room a once over. It was simple—a comfortable bed beneath the window and a cushioned chair by the bookshelf. There was a solid oak desk against the wall opposite the bookshelf, on it a pad of paper and pens and a lamp.
You decided to step out. Even though Laurance had offered you the room, you felt bad for hogging it. Especially after making it a temporary greenhouse.
As you stepped into the hallway, you ran into the man himself. His blue eyes were downcast, and you were glancing out the hallway windows so you almost didn’t see him. When you did, you held out your arm and placed your hand on his shoulder to prevent him from running into you.
“Sorry,” you instinctively said. Laurance lifted his gaze to meet yours. He looked . . . regretful, almost.
No. Regretful wasn’t the word, but he was definitely deep in thought.
“It’s alright,” he said. Your hand dropped from his shoulder. “Don’t apologize. I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
You smiled at him. “Well, neither was I.” He chuckled. “What happened earlier?”
“When earlier? When you passed out?”
You shook your head. “No, I mean when I woke up. You and Aphmau left and then a few minutes later Nicole sprinted out of the room. She looked worried.”
Laurance hummed. “Aphmau and I needed to . . . discuss a few things. Nothing important.” Although he said that, his tone indicated that their conversation may have meant the world to him. “And earlier, when Nicole ran out, it was because a small group of shadow souls were at the gates.”
Your brows furrowed. “Shadow souls? What are those?”
“Right. You aren’t . . .” He trailed off, shaking his head. “Shadow souls are the extremely weakened form of shadow knights, undead beings from the Nether.”
You hummed. You had read about the Nether realm before, and your mother had told you about the brief time she spent there to gather materials for her spells. It didn’t seem like a pleasant place, and you wished you never found yourself in its nightmarish depths.
“Shadow souls aren’t typically very strong or a big problem, but . . .” Laurance hesitated. His lips pressed together briefly before he blew out a breath. “Sometimes, when they possess a body or encounter an angered shadow knight, they become more powerful than even the strongest mages we have.”
Your eyes widened. Laurance beckoned you to follow him, and you did. “And they’re from the Nether?” Laurance nodded. “How did they get into our realm, then? The only portal to the Nether is—“
“With the Southern Wolf Tribe,” Laurance finished. You were back in the room you had just cleaned, and you settled on the bed beside Laurance. “I know. In the past fifteen years, however, the Southern Wolf Tribe has fallen into disarray and a few rogue shadow knights managed to escape and open small portals. I also think . . .”
He trailed off again, your brows pulling together. “You think what?”
“Fifteen years ago,” he began after a breath, “the High Priest of O’Khasis began a war between Scaleswind and Phoenix Drop.”
“Yes, I remember.” You pulled the end of your long braid into your lap, fidgeting with the tresses. “My mother came home in a rush to ensure my safety. She boarded up the window and slept in the same bed as me for nearly a month.”
Laurance’s expression saddened. “I’m very sorry.”
You shook your head. “It’s okay. She was just protecting me. I was a child at the time.”
“That’s not . . .” Laurance trailed off again, deciding not to prompt any sort of debate with your upbringing. He cast his gaze downward, fidgeting with his thumbs. “That’s beside the point. The High Priest Zane actually kidnapped Nicole for his own purposes and prompted the war. Once Scaleswind surrendered, Aphmau, myself, and a few others followed Zane into the forest. He had . . . He’d brainwashed a close friend of ours and used him as a pawn to help open the Irene dimension.”
Your brows furrowed. The Irene dimension? The place was a myth. Unheard of by most. But if it was a figment of someone’s imagination, then how was it that Laurance had been there?
“I think opening the Irene dimension ripped the realm barriers between our world and various others,” he finished explaining. His eyes turned up to meet yours. “That’s probably what let a couple shadow souls and shadow knights slip out of the Nether.”
You nodded in understanding. Now you were trying to piece together the Irene dimension. “And the Irene dimension itself? It’s real?”
Laurance nodded. “Yes. We were there for fifteen minutes.”
“And that was . . .” Fifteen years ago. Laurance and Aphmau and whoever else had been with them jumped through time. “Wait, you think the Irene dimension opening fifteen years ago ripped the realm barrier?” you asked after a moment in thought. That would have been the same time you passed out and grew plants the first time. You remembered because when you woke up the board had been taken down from the window and the first question you’d asked your mother was if the war had passed.
It had to be a coincidence. Those two events couldn’t have been related, especially since now there was nothing to do with Irene and powerful otherworldly magic to trigger your most recent episode.
Laurance nodded.
“That’s when I fainted for the first time,” you said.
Laurance’s brows furrowed. You could see the gears in his head turning, his irises seemed darker as he thought. “Did you happen to feel anything earlier this year?”
You thought back. “Yes. In early spring I felt nauseous for a few days.”
“Early spring . . .” he repeated to himself. “And earlier today. You passed out again, but a couple hours after that did you feel anything again?”
You nodded. “I had a terrible headache not too long ago. I didn’t faint, though.”
You watched the lightbulb go off. “Aphmau used her . . . What all do you know about Lady Irene?”
You shrugged. “Not much. Just that she lived long ago and was kind and benevolent, hence her title. My mother never really taught me anything. I know basic information about her, but that’s all.”
“You may be connected to her,” Laurance mused. Your eyes widened, and you physically recoiled from shock.
“What?”
“It’s just- Okay, that was sudden. I only mean that any time you’ve felt odd, something happened that was related to Irene.”
You raised a brow, tilting your head and waiting for him to explain. He was talking like you had been with him for years and knew everything he did.
“Fifteen years ago, you passed out the first time. At the same time, the Irene dimension was opened with an unstable method. My comrades and I returned in early spring, when you felt nauseous. While we were in the Irene dimension, Aphmau absorbed Irene’s relic. She used those powers twice today, so . . .”
You were even more confused. The more Laurance talked the more you were convinced he was messing with you.
Aphmau absorbed a relic? Not just that, but Irene’s relic? Which was in the Irene dimension. The same Irene dimension that doesn’t exist.
You shook your head. “No. That can’t be real.”
“My theory is just a theory, but I promise that everything I’ve said about my comrades is true,” he said. He met your gaze, a glint of sincerity shining in his eyes. “That’s why we’re here. We need to find out more about Irene and her life.”
“How do you expect me to believe that you went to a realm that has no evidence of existence?” you asked, crossing your arms. “That is absurd.”
“I don’t know how I can prove it to you,” Laurance said, “but I promise I’m telling the truth. And I do think you are somehow related to Irene. It can’t be a coincidence that you fall ill when something having to do with her happens.”
You let out a breath. You knew he was firm in whatever he believed. You could tell that much from the way he told you stories of Irene with wonder in his eyes. Knowing that made you assume he’d be adamant about his theory.
“If I were related to Irene or had other abilities my mother would have told me,” you plainly stated. “She would have helped me hone that magic.”
“Your mother has also kept you locked away your entire life,” Laurance countered. He gave you a blank stare. “I’m sorry to say, but I don’t think that’s a valid defense to say you aren’t somehow related to the goddess.”
You scoffed, tearing your gaze away from his and rolling your eyes. “Okay. Even if I were to be related to Irene—which I am most definitely not—how do you propose finding out information? I can’t stay out of my tower forever. I have to go back eventually.”
“Well, my friends and I are looking for information on Lady Irene,” he said. He held his hand out and gestured to the air, as if doing so would create an image in your mind of what to do. “You could stay with us until you need to go back to your tower.”
You considered his offer, realizing how much thought you hadn’t put into this whole situation. You hadn’t planned how long you’d be away—you weren’t even sure when your mother would be back at the tower. You didn’t have anywhere else to go now that you had left your tower except with Laurance, who had gotten you into this in the first place.
“I’ll think about it,” you said, standing up and wiping your hands against your skirt. “I’ll leave you alone for now, though. You seem drained.”
Giving Laurance a proper look, his eyes were dark and seemed droopy. You weren’t sure what had happened, but it was clear to you that he needed rest.
He gave you a nod. “Thank you. I’ll see you later, Y/n.”
You gave him a soft smile before stepping out of the room. Down the hall, after you clicked his door shut, you spotted Aphmau turning the corner, probably to go down the stairs that were over there.
You followed. You needed to ask her some questions.
“So you can just . . . Do that by will?” Aphmau asked, admiring the wilted rose you had brought back.
You nodded, handing her the flower. “I can only really heal plants on my own, though. Sometimes my mother will gather something from my hair to heal herself, but I think that’s mostly her.”
As if to demonstrate, you pulled your long braid over your shoulder and caressed the strands. You weren’t sure how to begin harnessing whatever magic your hair held, but you had tried everything under the sun. Not a thing worked for you. The only thing you knew was that it softly illuminated every name you healed plants.
Aphmau took the rose from your hand by the stem carefully, holding it up to the light as she inspected it. Her mouth was agape in awe, and you swore there was a soft sparkle in her eye.
“Laurance thinks I’m related to Irene,” you whispered after a moment. Aphmau snapped her head towards you. “I told him I wasn’t.”
Aphmau hummed in consideration, continuing to inspect the flower. There was still some of your power radiating from it, and Aphmau was likely taking in the feeling. Not to mention that you felt that same pull to her as you did earlier.
“I doubt it, but this does feel . . . familiar,” she admitted, meeting your gaze again. Her eyes were the color of warm honey, and there was a sense of comfort in them. You could practically see the gears in her mind turning as she thought. “Hey, we were planning on leaving for Phoenix Drop tomorrow morning if you want to come with us. I know a wonderful scholar there that can probably help us figure this out.”
You weren’t positive who the we she referred to was, but you could assume it included Laurance and whatever other companion she had brought with her. You thought about her offer. You had seen countless maps of the world before, and the village of Phoenix Drop was a long way from the city of Scaleswind. It was nearly a two day boat ride. The time would have been cut nearly in half if you travelled by land, but the Ru’aun region was separated by a sacred forest that was nearly impossible to get through if you didn’t know your way. Hell, it was difficult even if you did. You doubted they would be taking the shorter route.
Still, you agreed. You still had nowhere to go and you would rather stick around something familiar until you decided to return to your tower—the familiarity being Laurance. You weren’t sure how long you’d be gone. Would you even consider going back?
Of course you did. You needed to. Your mother would send a region wide manhunt for you if you didn’t go back eventually. But it wouldn’t hurt to at least spend your time away with an acquaintance, right?
“I’ll go with you guys,” you said, giving Aphmau a small smile.
She returned it, though hers was much brighter than yours. She handed you the rose back before standing up. “Great! I’ll make sure to tell Nicole so she can get enough supplies for us ready. It’s going to be a long trip, but I hope you don’t mind?”
You shook your head. “Not at all.”
You exchanged a few more words with Aphmau before she walked off, leaving you on the sidewalk bench by yourself. You watched her until she turned the corner and your gaze couldn’t follow her anymore, and then you softly sighed.
The air in Scaleswind was fresh. It also felt clean, though you were used to the slightly stuffy air of your tower, so maybe the air would feel clean everywhere. The city was beautiful, with its towering buildings and flowering plants. If this single place alone held so much beauty and wonder, then what did the rest of the region have?
You were excited, to be frank. Spending time away from your tower made you less nervous about traveling around with what was practically a group of strangers. They seemed to be nice strangers, though, and Laurance had already helped you tremendously.
You smiled as you stood from the bench. You breathed in the fresh air and started walking back to Nicole’s house, your dance shoes clicking a seemingly happy tune against the stone beneath your feet.
