Let's talk about the prison scene:

This has always been my favourite scene in Ghostbusters. I know it may seem a bit weird to find this scene amazing but bare with me.

This scene is their most vulnerable moment, they are in a state of limbo at whether they are going to jail or walk free. No one is in control here, they have no idea what's going to happen, meaning we see the true and hidden characteristics of each Ghostbuster.

Egon

Egon mostly proves to be everything we thought. He is logical and intelligent, he seems to be the only one who has done any form of in-depth research on Dana's case. He found the architect's name (Ivo Shandor) and all his history while working full time as a Ghostbuster, inventing their equipment and keeping an eye on the storage facility's data, reinforcing the preconception that Egon is a workaholic and incredibly smart. However, it's also a moment you see a new characteristic - confidence. When Egon tells Venkman, Ray and Winston what is happening, Egon is only expecting them to listen, when everyone else in the cell decides to listen you see that Egon is shocked. It's obvious that he doesn't expect anyone to listen but when he comes to terms with the fact the other prisoners are listening, Egon gains confidence. When stating facts about Shandor, Egon becomes increasingly confident and he even stands up at the end to prove the severity of the situation. This is never seen before as Egon is usually subdued, quiet and rarely ever uses body language, and in this whole scene he is completely different. This shows that Egon has the characteristic of confident and that he can command a presence, which is shown by the fact that everyone starts listening to him. He is a confident individual when it comes to his science and facts, especially when explaining them and this is completely shown here. Egon is not always the reserved scientist we thought, he has confidence but just expresses it differently.

Ray

Ray is shown to be intelligent in multiple different ways. Ray is completely involved in the investigation of Dana's apartment as he does his part of the research and learns the foundation that the architecture is weird, it's a conductor and these are all facts Egon builds on. This shows that Ray is a intelligent individual who gives facts that are as valuable as Egon's, and along with this a different type of intelligence emerges. In this scene, Ray is the only one who realises that Venkman has been lying the whole time about studying. This took a lot of intelligence to work out as you usually trust people, especially ones you have known for a long time and come from a credential background. The fact Ray works it out shows that he has a deep knowledge of his friends, proving that he has amazing intelligence when it comes to understanding people. However, it also shows Ray's bravey. Making an accusation that big could have backfired as Venkman may have become deeply offended, if he actually had studied. Therefore, it shows that Ray is an individual who is intelligent and incredibly brave as questioning people's credentials, could result in a massive argument or a falling out. This whole scene shows that Ray has an amazing perception and intelligence of people as he deduces Venkman's lies immediately and that he has confidence in each of his analysis, as he said that Venkman was lying with full confidence, despite the only legitimate evidence being a feeling.

Winston

Winston is showed to be intelligent and logical. In this scene he seems to be the only one whose genuinely concerned about going to jail, as he's the only one who shouts at the guard, trying to get out. The rest are not really bothered, they're more concerned about sharing information on Gozer, but as much as Winston believes in it he understands that being in jail is the more important problem, as they can't stop Gozer if they're locked up. He is also the only one who realises that the reality of Gozer coming is just going to look insane in court, as to the outside world ghosts are not really considered real, never mind a ghost attack. All of this reveals that Winston is intelligent and logical, he is a realist and has an amazing perception of the outside world and social situations. He's as intelligent as Egon but in a completely different way, his intelligence lies in his knowledge of the real world, and this gives him a vital role within Ghostbusters as without Winston's intelligence of the outside world they would have no real idea of how to navigate it.

Venkman

Venkman is shown to be helpful and caring. After Egon is finished explaining that Gozer is coming back all the prisoners are still around him. This would make Egon uneasy as he hates social situations and he has no more science or facts to make him feel confident as he's finished explaining. Venkman knows how uneasy Egon is and helps as he starts singing. He does this to draw attention away from Egon and while singing he forces everyone back, and he keeps going they are all far away from Egon. It's a small thing but it shows how much he really does care about Egon and all of the Ghostbusters. Venkman obviously understands them all on a deep level as it took him about a second to realise that Egon was uncomfortable. This all shows that despite all his faults Venkman is helpful and more importantly caring, he will do anything to insure that the rest of the his colleagues are happy and secure, even if it means embarrassing himself.

This is why I absolutely love this scene. We see glimpses of their personalities that we never see in any other situation. It's the most honest they all are, it shows their character development and more importantly gives us all a million more reasons to love them.

I haven’t read these books in years WHAT is the angel fetuses. What is happening

LMAO yeah there's actually been three instances where Warrior Cats made fetuses into StarClan characters. We're joking about Moonpaw's absorbed fetus twin (Starpaw/The Voice) meeting with Clear Sky's first dead wife's unborn kids.

The first time they did this was in the last book of DOTC, on Gray Wing's deathbed. Bright Stream, last seen in early pregnancy and being carried off by eagles to be gruesomely eaten alive, shows up accompanied by Tiger Tail and Pale Sky. Her embryos.

Because they show up in this big fanservicey montauge of all DOTC's fridged wives happily living as eternal mothers in StarClan, I sardonically call them the Dead Angel Fetus Children.

(It's dark humor to cope with how much the concept freaks me out)

And with Moonpaw, I have to explain how fusion chimerism works.

There are a few types of chimeras, but when a single individual is created from the combination of two fully fertilized zygotes, that is called fusion chimerism. That's what Moonpaw is.

And you have to understand, we're talking zygotes as in cells. The fusion of haploid gametes. NOT embryos (developing major organs) or fetuses (has major organs). When multiple embryos or fetuses are detected during pregnancy, but one vanishes, that is called Vanishing Twin syndrome (VTS).

There is actually very little linkage between VTS and the chance of a baby being born with fusion chimerism. At best it's an overstated link. At worst, it is a general misconception of Vanishing Twin syndrome.

Fusion Chimeras can happen in a lot of different ways, most of them fertilization errors, very few of them involving the multiple embryos of VTS. Likewise, the vast majority of VTS cases do not result in fusion chimeras. I explained Chimerism in-depth over in this post, and I encourage you to follow my citations to learn more if you're interested.

Sooooo... we're not even talking fetuses for Starpaw and Moonpaw. If they ever were separate, it would have been as embryos at best.

Which means that Moonpaw is haunted by cells that hadn't even developed major organs.

Cells at Work x Eri?

Eri was no doubt scared out of her mind since a bunch of cells started to yell and direct their weapons at her, however the Cells become confused about why Eri isn’t attacking since none of them are familiar with who or what type of bacteria she is or the fact that the White Blood Cells’ sensors aren’t responding to her as a threat

However, when the Bacteria that she came with started attacking, Eri tried to defend some of the cells, only for her Quirk to activate and give the White Blood Cells, Killer T Cells, B Cells, Macrophages and NK Cells a boost in energy while also healing their injuries and tiredness to a minimum

Eri is believed to be a Probiotic, a special type of Microorganism that helps support and boost the immune system by enhancing all the White Blood Cells to work better

She likes everyone, but her favorites are WBC, RBC, the many Killer T Cells, Platelets and the Macrophages (And is willing to help out the Platelets in construction by carrying stuff)

Eri adores the Helpful Bacteria as they’re so cute and cuddly as she shares her snacks with them (Probiotics support Good Bacteria)

-There was mass panic and a fast response by the strongest combat cells when you suddenly appeared, many thinking you were bacteria that was going to hurt them, but as the White Blood Cells and Macrophage surrounded you, weapons drawn, they realized there was no reactions on the White Blood Cells sensors, telling them that you weren’t a threat.

-You didn’t know where you were and you were quickly in tears, your little hands lifting to your eyes as you cried, which got several of the Macrophage surrounding you, trying to console you while others tried to figure out what you were.

-You introduced yourself as Y/N, but none seemed to recognize that name as a type of cell or anything that could be found in the human body.

-You were confused to learn you were inside a human body, and these individuals were all cells of different types, with different jobs and abilities, working together to keep this human body healthy.

-They were discussing on where to take you, since they didn’t know what kind of cell you were, when bacteria attacked, sending Red Blood Cells scrambling and the warriors, Macrophage, White Blood Cells, Killer T Cells, and others, ran in to defeat the bacteria.

-You were scared, unsure of what to do as you watched many of these nice new people being hurt, being blown back head over heels by these powerful bacteria.

-You saw one of the Macrophage get blown back, her weapon flying out of her hands as she landed with a sharp cry of pain and you ran to her, scared for her.

-Your horn started to glow, coming to life to the surprise of everyone around you as your energy surrounded her before moving to the allies, healing their wounds and giving them a boost of energy, giving them exactly what was needed to fight back and defeat the bacteria.

-When everyone was dealt with and cleaners appeared to handle the carnage, the Macrophage held you up as you seemed a bit flushed and tired.

-They decided you were a probiotic, a cell that boosts the power of the immune system, and while you were still confused, you seemed content in your new life, as you got to play with other cells, like Platelets and younger Red Blood Cells, being a normal child and you felt good that you were helping others.

-You did your best in helping where you could, no matter how small, even if it was just carrying paperwork around the offices that oversaw the management of all the cells involved with the immune system.

-Many admired me for your willingness to help, despite not looking as strong as White Blood Cells or Macrophage, and many were quick to adopt you, treating you like their child, making sure you were always safe.

-You’re still not completely sure how you wound up actually inside a human’s body, but being surrounded by so many who cared about you and treated you with respect was nice and you never wanted to leave. You wanted to stay here forever!

So this is a theory that has been gnawing at my last brain cells these days. Spoilers until chapter 1050~

Btw don't expect big words or something mind breaking, I haven't slept much reading this damn novel so this is the rambles of a mad woman who needs to lay these things somewhere so she can focus on her two cuties making out.

From the get-go, the novel's name always intrigued me. "Turning". Meaning change. And the novel deals with a hell of a lot of changes that happen to the world or to some individuals.

The most noticeable change being, of course, the red stone. It changes people's core and awaken in them the power to change their lives and destinies. It's like... literally said in the novel: most awakeners get their powers when they're desperate for something. The desperate need to hold his vessel (Kishiar), the desperate need to have someone take his place to confront his harsh reality while he hides in the shadows (Gakane), the desperate need to protect herself and her village (Ever) or the desperate need to get out and save his master from a burning building (Hosanna). You get the gist.

But what if it's part of some bigger scheme? Hear me out:

- Divine power precedes all the other abilities, it's said that it's the power of the sun God. But it probably wasn't enough to resolve the great destruction that happened a thousand years ago. And guess what (coincidentally?) appeared a thousand years ago...?

- Magic: it's described as something akin to how awakeners appeared. Mages could *instinctively* know how to use their powers. Mages even had their own specialties (for example, Luma saying to Enon he wasn't a master of all magic types but the specific magic that is "connection" circa chapter 1055, i think). But I've read some spoilers a bit ago (I like reading some spoilers so I can be attentive to details sometimes) that magic rendered mages infertile. Just like awakeners in the current era. And that's how they came about the whole "spiritual father" thing. I haven't reached this far in the novel, so I may be wrong. But then... it made me think about how the other power system affects the body

- Sword aura: BAM! There's nothing in the novel about when this thing appeared, but the first emperor was a known swordmaster. So it may preceded magic but not my point, anyway ^^ one thing that's emphasized a LOT during the southern earthquake arc is that swordmasters don't need much sleep, never catch a cold, live longer and appear younger... etc.. then there's that passage in the novel about Meghna and her kids when she invites Yuder to her home. And it made me think about how all of those noble families have some kind of disease. Herne all die young, Apeto are all physically ill and experience frequent seizures, and Tain are probably sick in the head (beside Pruelle and his siblings) with the way they treat their own kids... oh! And didn't Kuyu-nim say in the novel that whatever Nippy had was common in the Tain family? Just like Theo Tain and his obsession with swords? Which everyone in the fandom thinks is Autism? I now regret using the "sick in the head expression" (hey, I'm autistic and I'm *not* sick in the head... not because of my autism at least 🤔). And to become a swordsman, you definitely need to be rich and from a good family to be even allowed to be a knight's squire and learn the sword. So what if this new power appeared as like.. a solution to the declining health of people with magic? Since the 4 ducal families are all descendants of the first emperor and his magician empress. Yes, the system is not perfect, but had it been more accessible, maybe some teachings of the sword way could've saved a bunch of people. Well.. anyway, these 3 systems aren't enough to save the world anyway, so...

- Awakening: BAM! (again sorry for the loud noise) magic is dying and reserved to an elite, divine power is dying and reserved to an elite, sword aura is dying and reserved to an elite... and the world is heading to it's end so we need new heroes. People who gain the power to change things, at least at their level. A power that you can gain if you're desperate enough to *change* things. Isn't the end of the world an auspicious time for people to become desperate? The "reserved to an elite" thing is also mentioned in the novel: about how few noble families members had awakened (i can't remember how Kuyu-nim phrased it but I think it was something like people who have everything rarely are desperate enough to awaken.. and even if they do, it was seen as something shameful so I don't think these people's powers could've developed into something significant (we all know how external factors influence not only the appearance of Awakening powers but also their development like how all omegas suddenly had their power be less powerful when society began to consider omegas as lesser beings))

Soooo my theory is that something is watching over the world. Or (my fav theory) that the world, when in imbalance, creates something to balance it again. Giving tools (powers) to help fight against the disasters that will befall humans. These tools have been both catalysts for change, and to prepare for change.

Human name: Finn Ridley

Age (when experimented on): 11

Toy name: Max McShake

Type: Milkshake Narwhal

Height: 8'5

Role: Cook(?? Idk he's more of a waiter)

Personality: Absolute show-off. Is the embodiment of 'playing with your food'. The bane of Picky's existence. He'd skate around and juggle plates full of food before perfectly landing it all on the kids' tables...Most of the time. Other times, it's him still perfectly serving the food...but getting himself hurt in the process. The only reason why he's being slightly more careful is because Medic's threatening to stop helping him with his injuries if he keeps being so reckless.

He is the anxiety-inducer of both the kitchen staff and the medical staff. He tends to do things such as fill a glass to the absolute brim that it's on the brink of spilling, perform stunts whenever he's serving the food, all that stuff. He used to be a caretaker, but was eventually deemed a bad influence after some of the kids start trying to copy him and his stunts.

Backstory: Finn was an orphan who was notorious for getting into very avoidable accidents that should've killed him, but didn't. He was just straight up built different from the get-go. Whenever an orphan gets admitted to Playcare's clinic, the pediatricians already know that there's an eighty percent chance it's him. And no matter how many times he ends up hurting himself just because he wanted to impress the other kids with his stunts, he straight up never learned.

Some game station results and a trip to the operating table later, and Finn, or Max at this point, spent most of his pre-HOJ life being locked up in a cell like most toys. It especially broke his sense of identity since he genuinely has a near-identical personality to the actual Max from the cartoon, giving him severe impostor syndrome.

If he wasn't in his cell, he was being forced to test his unremovable skates during many of Dr. Leroy Gallop's experiments. He still retains many cracks and bandages from when he was still getting used to having wheels stuck to his soles. He hates the other scientists too, but Dr. Gallops is a special breed of bastard to him.

Max was probably one of the toys that hesitated the most during the HOJ. He barely remembered anything that happened at the time, only that he was too overstimulated from everything happening and ended up fainting in the process. Even after, he still sometimes beats himself up for not doing more. (Especially about Zack and Maggie's dads)

Weaknesses: His recklessness, queasiness around injuries on toys (does not like being reminded of the whole 'being experimented on' thing), bit more on the fragile side

Strengths: Speed, absolute luck, no seriously his luck stats are maxed out (pun intended), he and Maria would get along (maybe, not really, Maria probably doesn't like him lmao)

Human name: Suzie Acres

Toy name: Carmen Apple

Type: Caramel Apple Caterpillar

Age (when experimented on): 13

Height: 8'7

Role: Multiple roles (A snack vendor for the Theater area, and a janitor)

Personality: Constantly tired, Carmen is the silent type who would let others take the spotlight while she just does her job and go unnoticed. Anytime she does get noticed, it's usually because she ends up slipping on her own mop puddle, just to give up with standing and just sleep there. Lack of sleep is usually due to insomnia (claiming she could heard the bugs scurrying in the walls), and making sure there's absolutely no tripping hazards as she cleans.

Carmen is an incredibly jaded individual, having distanced herself from her fellow toys just to do her own thing (Though she'd still help around if it means making herself feel useful). Once upon a time, she was a kid who wanted everyone's approval. Now, she's just content with whatever. While cleaning, she sometimes accidentally end up hearing conversations from others who don't even end up noticing her, though she doesn't bother doing much about it.

Backstory: Suzie was an orphan who was a severe people pleaser who was also a bit of a klutz (Understatement of the year). Whereas Max gets himself hurt because of his own recklessness, Suzie gets herself hurt unintentionally. Max basically stole all of her luck points, and now she's a hazard to herself 24/7. It was a miracle that she even scored high on the game station tests. Well- it really isn't, but not the point 💀

Being experimented on didn't really help, as one can imagine. Already having severe klutz syndrome and being shoved into a completely unfamiliar body made it extremely hard for her to function. This was a problem to the scientists, since the actual Carmen from the cartoon is supposed to be the responsible, level-headed, reliable figure...which BBI Carmen didn't exactly display. It came to the point that the scientists had to extend her adjustment period, just so she could take more time to finally get used to things.

One thing about Carmen is that like the actual toy being sold in the Playtime Co. brand, BBI Carmen's caramel hair is actually made to smell like caramel, and even feels sticky when touched. One of the scientists' methods to get her to behave is to lock her in a room full of insects and bugs who would mistake her for an actual caramel apple. She was even forced in a room full of feral critters who thought the same, resulting in the bitemarks on her hair.

Post-HOJ, Carmen tends to just stay in the background instead of getting attention, and would rather just sell snacks or mop the floors and hope that she doesn't slip in the process. The closest to an actual friend she currently has is Riley, with them sometimes bumping into each other. Sometimes though, being a janitor can be a difficult job...

Especially if you're moping off blood and viscera.

Weaknesses: Fear of bugs (ironically while being a caterpillar toy), scent attracting said bugs, klutz energy

Strengths: Ability to walk on walls (soles on shoes have the same sticky material as her hair, stealth, good at cleaning up evidence

WORLDBUILDING NOTES: CELL DIVISION

I’m taking genetics this spring and it got me thinking about how cells divide, here are my thoughts! This is def one of the more sci-fi posts I’ve written and not gonna be 100% scientifically accurate so bear with me lol.

Let’s start with the notion that the nucleus is essentially a cell’s brain. It sits inside their head, coding proteins and all that, along with brain functions like thoughts, emotions, personalities, learning, etc, which are directly linked to noncoding DNA. These functions are not as understood by cells (and not understood at all by humans) as the coding DNA is, but tiny changes in the coiling of these segments and weak interactions with surrounding noncoding DNA form the cell’s psyche. Even after a cell divides, that cell’s chromatin will fold right back to its original shape and retain that individual cell’s memories and character, drawn back into place by those I.M.F.s (Intermolecular forces). And the same thing happens in prokaryotes since it’s not reliant on the nucleus itself. But I’m not a biochemist and I’m not gonna pretend to know what I’m talking about, so that’s all the detail you’re getting. All you need to know is noncoding DNA arranged a certain way = unique cell with their own thoughts and feelings.

When a cell divides, the process is a little different from what we understand IRL. Usually, interphase takes most of the time and happens before everything else. The cell grows, replicates its DNA, and duplicates its organelles. Instead, the only things that happen before cytokinesis are fragments of organelles pinching off and replication of DNA. Basically, in real life you get G1 ➡️ S ➡️ G2 ➡️ M, and here you get S ➡️ M ➡️ G (excluding checkpoints). During the replication process, a cell will start to feel light-headed, and take this as a sign that it’s probably time to step back from work. Little by little, noncoding I.M.Fs will get broken by ribosomes, and instinct will take over to carry out what we observe IRL.

By time chromosomes start condensing, the cell has forgotten how to speak, think, or even who they were before. But they’re okay, and just going through the motions laid out by instinct. A trusted non-dividing cell usually accompanies them to make sure everything goes well and to prepare the interphase tube for them (explained in a bit). Cells often describe M phase as fading into a dreamless sleep or deep meditation while you’re still up and moving around, and then waking up when it’s over.

In this state, the cell undergoes all stages of M phase, with half of the chromosomes staying in their head where they’ll decondense, and the other half, along with the organelle fragments, move to the end of the tail to become a vesicle that pinches off from the especially supple membrane found there. While this happens, they sit quietly as the spindles separate the chromosomes, and then gently detach the vesicle.

When the cell “wakes up,” they have a monster headache and they’re holding a vesicle about the size of a soccer ball. It looks more like a real cell than anything, housing a full set of DNA and fragments that will grow into full organelles. The vesicle then goes straight into the interphase tube, but the nondividing cell can’t take it from them until they’re fully awake because they’ll protect it on instinct and might get aggressive abt it. The tube looks a lot like the ones in canon, it’s kept warm and the blue fluid in there is full of all the nutrients the growing cell will need. Usually, it also has certain chemicals that will randomize many of the I.M.Fs that the decondensed chromatin will form, resulting in a new individual with their own personality, and not just a perfect clone of the “parent” cell. Noncoding interactions that control the expression of things like membrane/flagella/eye color and other physical attributes like height and patterns are also randomized, but coding DNA, expression of cell type features, and basic skills stay the same. In about an hour or two, when I.M.F.s in the daughter cell finalize, they’re brought out of the tube and sent right to the shower. After that, they get dressed, and are then taken to wherever the parent cell works and shown the ropes. Due to those preserved interactions, they usually catch on pretty quickly, and they’ll be living their own life in no time.

That was mitosis. As for meiosis, it’s pretty much the same, except you need more interphase tubes and only professionals can oversee the process. But unfortunately, the original parent cell’s I.M.F.s don’t get preserved because they were built on diploid framework, and volunteering to undergo meiosis is seen as a huge selfless sacrifice. Before it happens, the cell can do whatever they want, which usually involves a big party with friends or a sightseeing trip. Some really out-there ones that have canonically happened include: being in charge of the news station for a day, giving all the WBCs silly string (they ended up keeping it as a distraction method), throwing random things with trebuchets, punching a hated celeb on live TV, and formally outlawing the phrase “gettin’ jiggy with it” just to piss off a co-worker who said it all the time.

Typing the Turtles (ROTTMNT) Part 4 - Michelangelo

This started out as an investigation into the turtles’ insecurities, because one thing the show does so well is demonstrate that they are still teenagers. And being a teenager is a confusing experience - there’s angst, drama, exploring one’s identity, a lot of growth, and overall figuring out who you are. That’s a messy process, too! And we see this mess in our turtles: they mess up, they’re learning, they self-doubt, they have fears and insecurities, but they’re also discovering their strengths and how to overcome their inner obstacles.

So after thinking about all this way too long, here’s my psychological breakdown of each turtle (I’ll be referencing MBTI and the Enneagram a ton, but will include links for more general information on those if you don’t know what I’m talking about).

Mikey: ENFP, 4w3

The Individualist, the Campaigner, the Enthusiast, the Diplomat

I struggled for FOUR. YEARS. To figure out if Mikey is an enneagram 4 or an enneagram 2. And I’m finally going with enneagram 4.

Mikey is creative and very in tune with his emotions. To understand the enneagram 4, we must get away from the stereotype that 4’s are moody, mopey, angst-filled. Happy fours exist! They are quite common, in fact. https://www.elisabethbennettenneagram.com/post/the-happy-four  This is especially enhanced by Mikey being an ENFP: extroverts who want to ‘get deep’ with others, learning their intrinsic desires and motivations. Mikey has both of these aspects.

We see that Mikey has a pretty strong sense of self in episodes like ‘The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle’, where he actually doesn’t want to engage in dress-up montage and is the first to state that they are perfect as they already are and to “embrace the Turtle, baby!” Fours are driven by uniqueness and individuality, with a desire to find both themselves and their purpose. https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-4/  Mikey is constantly expressing himself through his art, cooking, and a myriad of other skills including DJ’ing (Mascot Melee and Lair Games) ballet (Lair Games) and some sort of rodeo clown/mime class (Bug Busters). 

But Mikey doesn’t keep this concept of self-expression and identity to himself. He likes to meaningfully connect with others and the way they express themselves, too. He often supports their endeavors as the world’s biggest hype-man (stated literally in Shell in a Cell). ENFP’s are called the campaigners because they’re looking for that deeper, meaningful joy in others even as their own upbeat approach to life lets them explore new things. https://www.16personalities.com/enfp-personality  You want someone to enthusiastically encourage you and cheer you on as you Do the Thing, whatever thing that may be? That’s Mikey.

This kind of engagement is also why I believe he’s a 4w3. Three wings are usually more ambitious and goal-oriented with people-pleasing tendencies, which can (in my opinion) look a lot like a Two. Fours also move to Twos in stress, becoming clingy and needy.

What does all this look like? The biggest example is Mikey’s Draxum project. There has to be more to this warring warrior-scientist because there always is more to everybody. Mikey’s goal is to rehabilitate him, yes, but it’s to rehabilitate him by connecting with him on a deeper level and getting Draxum to connect with others (humans) on that deeper level, too (Repairin’ the Baron). Additionally, when Splinter asks Mikey why cares about Draxum so much in Hidden City’s Most Wanted, Mikey responds “He made me. He made us. …Maybe he didn’t make us for the right reasons, but I’m still glad he did.”

Mikey is only one of four teenage mutant ninja turtles in this world, and that makes him pretty darn unique. He embraces that. He loves who he is, and he loves other people for who they are.

Mikey at his Worst: We don’t like to look at Mikey at his worst self I think because so often he brings such joy and positivity and caring into the world that it feels easier to ignore any negative aspects about his character. But Mikey is only human turtle, too. These behaviors are usually emotion-driven to the point that they blind him from greater context/awareness. He’s not thinking about the others around him. For example, in Nothing but Truffle, Mikey is very bossy to Todd as he fixates on getting that shadow moon truffle. This is probably the episode that depicts Mikey at his most selfish: he starts off determined to figure out how to make his pork chops as good as MeatSweat’s, then becomes enamored by a day hanging out with his idol (that 3 wing kicking in, as well as ENFP overaccommodation).

Mikey also has a competitive streak in him second to Leo’s. He can’t wait to “rub it in Raph’s face” when he gets the game in Hot Soup: The Game, and needles Leo by calling him ‘second place’ throughout You Got Served. Additionally, when Mikey gets mad, he can let his anger carry him to some extremes. In ‘Donnie’s Gifts’, he demands that Raph tell Donnie exactly how they all feel. In ‘Pizza Pit’, we see Mikey’s anger/hangriness drive him to extreme rage as they chase down DIGG for destroying their favorite pizza places. When he’s blocked from being able to do (razzmatazz) or get (pizza, the truffle) what he wants, he’ll let his feelings take over regardless of how it affects those around him.

Average Mikey: Most of the time, Mikey lives completely in the present. He is often reacting to whatever is right in front of him at the time. Outside of danger, he is happy to spend his time playing video games, creating art (Flushed, But Not Forgotten) or cooking (The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide’n’Seek, The Longest Fight, Pizza Puffs, Donnie’s Gifts). He also enjoys hanging out with all of his brothers, playing various games with Leo (You Got Served, Sparring Partner) or helping Donnie with his projects (Repo Mantis, the scrapped Gourd Almighty). Being so in tune with the present, Mikey often hits the nail on the head with what exactly is going on (usually emotionally) with the situation, and responds. 

This type of response is neutral, however. For example, in Bug Busters, after they destroy the lobby of the hotel, Mikey says “we need to do the right thing, guys… and get out of here.” Another moment includes their first time hero-ing in Origami Tsunami where he comments “Man, this seemed like a really cool idea until we didn’t succeed at it.” Or in The Gumbus, when Stockboy asks if they’ve subscribed and donated to his channel, Mikey replies “No. But we’ve been thinking about meaning to.” Or even cheering on Draxum in Repairin’ the Baron after he admits he’ll need to tolerate humans with a happy “there’s the bare minimum!” The humor in all of this is that Mikey’s not wrong. He’s exactly right, and just outright states it, for better or for worse.

Which is another thing about Mikey: nothing is subtle. He puts himself out there, and everything he does is done to the max. When he cries, he sobs. When he laughs, he laughs hard. When he’s scared, he’s terrified. When he’s mad, he’s enraged. 

Even his ‘doctor’ personas (which you can look at as a 4w3 who prefers ‘the stage’ than a quieter 4w5 for expression) are extremes. https://www.crystalknows.com/enneagram/type-4/wing-3  Dr. Delicate Touch tells it how it is, no matter how much the truth may hurt (Pizza Pit, Bullhop). Dr. Positive looks on the bright side, no matter how far out of reach that goal may seem (Repairin’ the Baron). Dr. Feelings will commit to emotional intelligence and the importance of experiencing feelings no matter how closed-off to the idea his patient(s) may be (Breaking Purple).

Mikey at his Best: The thing is, while Mikey is often unapologetically his whole entire self, bad side and all, he accepts the very same traits about everyone else. He believes everyone is perfect as they are (The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle) not because they have obtained some kind of ideal, but because he thinks their entire being, warts and all, is what makes them beautiful and perfect.

Mikey appreciates everything around him in this way. In Hot Soup: The Game, we see him constantly pausing and appreciating various items in the store. The suit of armor he fell in? Has a feather! The ice cream kitty statue? Is adorable and makes him coo. There are dozens of little moments throughout the entire show where he constantly just pauses and notices what’s around him and how cool/beautiful/fascinating they are.

This is how Mikey views people, too. He was the first one to warm up to Todd, even when there was still a chance he was the spine-breaking bandit (Repo Mantis). He looks up to Rupert Swaggart for his cooking skills, while simultaneously acknowledging that the guy is a jerk (Nothing But Truffle). Even after Bullhop has been “working a nerve!” he still asks him at the end if he wants to join the Mad Dogs. He points out to Donnie, as he’s having trouble with Shelldon, that Shelldon “is at a delicate age. You need to nurture his spirit, or you’ll drive him away.” (Breaking Purple). And he’s right.

This is also how I think Mikey can come across as a Two very often. He’s so supportive, so generous in always helping others, hyping them up, and being there for them that it can read very much like a Two. But the motivation is what it comes down to: Mikey doesn’t help out because he needs to be needed, or to feel loved. He already feels loved. He’s engaging with them on their terms. His connection with them is utterly genuine and authentic. That is a very powerful kind of acceptance that is hard for anyone to say no to.

The biggest example of all of this is, again, Draxum. No one else was going to touch Draxum with a ten foot pole. But Mikey, as a 4, takes his past in stride and meets him where he is with a full, true, connection. Even though Draxum grouses, he doesn’t turn down Mikey’s help. Unlike a two, Mikey’s not helping to be loved, or because he feels he needs to help. Mikey states “He created us. That makes him family. And once he feels like he’s a part of our family, his goodness will shine.” His entire logic is that Draxum needs to feel part of a family, something that is missing from him currently. Right before that sentence, Mikey lays out, very clearly, exactly what state Draxum was in. He was totally alone and helpless. And he’s not doing it in a judging way, exactly, nor lauding how great he is for helping him out of that. He’s stating the blunt truth. Mikey encountered a depressed, powerless, down-on-his luck warlord. And he still accepted him for everything he was: a depressed powerless, down-on-his-luck warlord, and his creator. Since he created Mikey (and since Fours heavily value their sense of identity and purpose) this means A LOT to Mikey.

“He created us, Raph. Without him, we wouldn’t even be here.” (Repairin’ the Baron)

“He made me. He made us. …Maybe he didn’t make us for the right reasons, but I’m still glad he did.” (Hidden City’s Most Wanted)

“We’re perfect the way we are! Embrace the TURTLE, baby!” (The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle)

Of course he decided he was family, and of course he believes that connecting Draxum with family is going to grow Draxum into a better person. Mikey is all about embracing the wonderfully unique, diverse, and fascinating people in this world and finding the joy and beauty in even the darkest, ugliest places.

Now, there are three other teenage mutant ninja turtles in Mikey’s world.

Mikey Relationships:

I’ve talked about Mikey’s relationships in all the previous Typing posts, but will try to continue here. What KILLS me, though, is we were on the cusp of some surely-great Mikey episodes before Nickelodeon interfered, which would have made this entire post much, much easier (T-Hex, the Turtle Tots episode, ‘Wedding Crashers’). So I’m going a little out on some projected limbs, here.

Raph: It’s interesting that though Mikey is usually supportive of Raph, Raph tends to be less supportive of Mikey. He’s hesitant to let him go on a solo mission (Hot Soup: The Game), or back up his and Donnie’s plan in One Man’s Junk. I think this was really going to be explored in the planned episode where Mikey and Raph confront each other about this: Mikey is growing up, becoming his own person, and Raph needs to let him grow. He can’t keep him sheltered as the Big Brother all the time. This would cause an ENFP 4 a lot of friction if they can’t explore for themselves and stretch their wings. 

Donnie: Mikey has a close relationship with Donnie, and there’s a lot of team-up episodes with the two of them (Repo Mantis, One Man’s Junk, the fight in Bug Busters, etc.) There’s also a dozen little moments of affection between the two, hugs and pats on the head that indicate a lot of sweetness (Hot Soup: The Game, Bug Busters). Donnie’s the closest brother Mikey has to also being a creator: he builds inventions, and engineering marvels, Mikey creates art in graffiti and culinary forms. Additionally, they both love music and dance (Mascot Melee, Lair Games). That is a great environment for Mikey’s unique, creative side to grow in, probably seeking more of Donnie’s company as Raph’s becomes stifling.

Leo: There are a surprising number of similarities between Leo and Mikey. They get along as easy as breathing, hanging out in a number of casual off-screen ways (Mrs. Cuddles, Sparring Partner, You Got Served). Mikey’s competitive streak can exacerbate Leo’s, as they share that 3 on the Enneagram, but Leo is also one of Mikey’s biggest supports. He goes against Raph in Hot Soup: The Game, to let Mikey go on his solo mission. He points out in Origami Tsunami that Mikey is known for his legendary optimism. Mikey is Leo’s Hype-Man in Shell in a Cell and Leo encourages Mikey while he’s masquerading in the hippo costume (Newsworthy). They’re pretty solid.

Overall, Mikey is a genuine, authentic, creative and expressive turtle who is not afraid to meet people where they are. His emotional openness, curiosity, and solid sense of self make him a truly engaging friend, ally, and loved one. I wish we could see him challenged a bit more, and truly the center of an episode exploring his traits, but until then, we’ll love him as he is.

Hearing her say my name makes my dick even harder - painful even. Sure, I have whores around base that I like to use to relieve some much needed pressure, but ever since I made her my mission, I've remained abstinent, and its getting harder to control. I have a plan for my little devil, but I don’t know if I will be able to draw it out as much as I want to. 

“Sounds like wheels up tomorrow,” Three says with a shit grin on his face. He knows how bad I want her. The bodies I would stack getting to her. She doesn’t know it yet, but I'm what she is missing. Either way, she will learn to love it. And if not, she will learn to live with it. 

My eyes go to Three and he can see the excitement in mine. Sure, my mask covers everything, but my eyes - but even my green orbs can show my mood. “I thought so,” he says with his grin getting even wider - showing his straight white teeth. He turns on heel and heads to my door - shutting it behind him. Leaving me alone with my thoughts and the one words coming off her lips that she will learn to scream - my name. 

She's planning on going against a fucking invisible person who only shows up when theres already a knife in your back. Ive seen the guy once, and I was impressed - which says a lot. Not much impresses me. 

I lean back in my chair and rest my head back against the top part of it, staring at the ceiling. I have multiple plans going through my head with how I want this to go tomorrow. I need it to be perfect, with little room for error. Correction, no room for error. 

I lean up and grab my cell, unlocking it and pressing Three’s contact. It rings twice before he answers, “Miss me already?” The humor in his voice tells me he’s excited about tomorrow too. If anyone else would address me that way, I would personally rip their tongue from their mouth and pull each tooth individually so they wont be able to speak at all - but Three is my right hand man. One I'm the most lenient with.

“Grab some men and meet me in the briefing room in thirty. We need to go over how I want tomorrow to go,” I tell him. He doesn’t say anything and hangs up. Again, its Three and I know I wont have to worry about him letting me down.

Im the last one in the briefing room. Three grabbed six other men - so that will make eight all together. Perfect. It gives each of them their own person since theres now six on the Task Force. Seven if you count Nik, but I know he’ll be operating the helo. Two extra men on my side means less I have to worry about. I care about my men as long as they get the job done, but dying means they failed me. Cold hearted, I know, but in this type of world it will chew you up and shit you out for shits and giggles. 

“Gentleman,” I say as I walk to the front of the room. The doors are at the back of the room and the room slants down. I know its weird for men who kill people to sit with their back to the doors, but it keeps them on high alert - not knowing who will come through the door…so I'm doing them a favor by keeping their senses strong. They each nod their head as I pass by - its a way to show their respect. As I've said before, Im a King and this is my Kingdom. Kings get bowed at from their courts to show their respect and I expect no difference. Three stands at the front room with his arms crossed over his chest, leaned against the wall. 

“Tomorrow is an important day. The mission on hand is one that will go smoothly,” I pause, “So pay attention. Any error and you will suffer at my hands.” Each man, besides Three, nods their head in agreement. Im proud of my team. I train strong men. Women in this field cant handle my training, so they usually tend to wounds or meals. It may seem sexist, but they are given the same treatment as my men, they just cant handle it.

My mind goes to my little devil. I know she will be able to handle me - whether she likes it or not. My heart accelerates a bit more knowing tomorrow she will be with me - putting up a fight, I hope. “Its a kill and capture mission,” I say. “Bamberg, Germany is the location. Alex Igor is the secondary suspect. As you all know, he’s a main weapons trade dealer, but the main person of interest, is a guy named UNKNOWN.” My eyes drift around the room as I see a few men tense. If I'm being honest, the dude sends a faint chill down my spine too, but not enough to make me flinch. 

“But that isn’t the mission,” I say as I turn to Three. He’s still leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, but with that same smirk across his face. I look out at my team for tomorrow and their brows scrunch in confusion, “Task Force 141 will be there to interrogate Alex - hoping to find a location on UNKNOWN.”

“So we take out 141?” My eyes divert to the left of the room to the sandy blonde. Jeremy Flogs. Everyone used to call him flogger thanks to his last name on his old team - that was until he tackled the guy to the ground and gouged the dudes eyes out with his thumbs. He was discharged and banned from that team. I however took him in and gave him a higher rank. This dude is nasty in hand to hand combat.

“No,” I say firmly. “We kill any of Igors guys. Task Force 141 remains unharmed.” 

The men in front of me look around at each other. I know they are waiting for me to laugh or change my mind. “Colonel, we’ve been trying to take them out for years…,” Zeke says sitting in front of me - another recruit with anger issues. 

“Im aware,” I say as I lean against the desk behind me and cross my foot over the other - as well as my arms, “Im saving them for something special.”

“So who are we capturing? UNKNOWN?” Jeremy asks. 

If they could see the devilish smirk beneath my mask, “Widow.” Everyone freezes at the mention of her name. No one other than Three knows my intentions with her. Of course, everyone else here thinks Im going to torture and kill her like everyone else wants too. To say they won the biggest trophy. The biggest fish in the sea, but the only way I will take her life is if she takes mine too.

“You all do what you have to do. Just because I instructed that 141 doesn’t die, doesn’t mean they go unharmed. Widow is mine and everyone in this room does what they deem necessary. Anyone else, is free game and handle them how you want,” I say as I get off the desk to walk out of the briefing room. “Wheels up at 1500 and don’t disappoint me,” I finish off as I close the door. 

I feel like a kid on Christmas - well a normal kid. I didn’t have the loving parents who showered their offsprings with gifts. I was lucky to have a warm meal and a soft place to sleep, but this, this is what it must’ve felt like waiting on a non existent person to arrive with nonsense. 

I walk the halls of the base to the lot outside. My house isn't far from here and although I have a room set up, I prefer sleeping in my own home…in my own bed. Plus, theres a few extra things I need to do before I bring home my…present. 

I exit out and the cool night engulfs me. Even with my gear still on, I can still feel it wrap around me. I dig into the pocket of my black tactical pants and pull out my key fob to my all black Porsche 911. I click the unlock button twice and hear my doors unlock. Footsteps approaching me causes the hair on the back of my neck to stand. Its too late out here for anyone to be coming up to me. 

I stop and turn on heel as a familiar face stands before me.

“You haven’t been returning my calls,” she says as she reaches out and runs her hand down my arm to my hand. 

I turn my body, making her hand fall and giving her a hint to not touch me. “If I wanted to talk to you Whitney, I would’ve answered.” She's one of the nurses here on my base, and one of the few who took care of more than a few bandages on me. 

She scoffs, but then tries to recoup by bringing her hand up again to my arm, “I was thinking, since its been a few months, I could help relieve some str-“

I grab her wrist before she touches my arms and squeeze - not only cutting off her sentence, but also the circulation to her hand. I feel something pop in her wrist and something tells me to break it fully, “Konig, you’re hurting me.” 

“You think I fucking care?,” I say with my voice low. “You obviously don’t know boundaries. So here, let me help you,” I say with gritted teeth as I squeeze a little harder - making a yelp come out of her, “You were just a one time fuck. Your mouth was good for a few times, but don’t think you and I will ever be anything Whitney. You’re just like the rest of the insecure whores out there. Now find someone else to fuck,” I say as I fling her wrist from my hands. She falls to the ground, tears streaming down her face as she cradles her wrist in her other hand. 

I get to my car and get in - driving off and not giving a fuck about the whore in the rear view. Theres a reason why I haven’t touched Whitney or anyone else in the last few months. Hey!! I just learned something today. My brother has been a medical professional for about fifteen years (He started as a nurse but I have no idea what his qualifications are now, he's just really good lol) and he showed me something I didn't even know existed.

So, I've been avoiding asking my doctors about PCOS as I don't fit one of the common symptoms of weight gain from my hormonal issues, but my brother said that there are other types of PCOS that don't make you gain weight, so I should check out a diagnosis ANYWAY.

It's called Lean PCOS and is often hard to diagnose because of the lack of weight gain within the symptoms. Please check this out if you have been thinking the same thing as I have.

Lean PCOS is a type of PCOS that does not involve overweight or obesity. Because of differences in body composition in the types of PCOS, lean PCOS may need different treatment approaches.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex metabolic endocrine condition that affects 1 in 10 adult females. It can cause a diverse range of features, including an irregular menstrual cycle, an excess amount of androgens (a predominantly male sex hormone), and physical features such as cysts that may show up on an ultrasound.

PCOS can cause various symptoms depending on an individual’s body weight. There are two types of PCOS: overweight or obese PCOS and lean PCOS.

This article explains lean PCOS, including symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.

PCOS typically occurs in people who have obesity or overweight. However, it can affect people with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or less. The “healthy weight” BMI range recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is 18.5–24.9Trusted Source.

Lean PCOS differs from overweight or obese PCOS in body composition and other factors. This means that doctors need to tailor treatment options to the individual needs of a person with lean PCOS.

Lean PCOS vs. PCOS

Most occurrences of PCOS involve at least one of the following characteristics:

high androgen levels

irregular periods or a lack of ovulation

small cysts on one or both ovaries

People with obese or lean PCOS typically have similar metabolic profiles, as there are similar levels of visceral adipose tissue (body fat), which is a hormonal feature of body fat that affects processes within the body.

Other characteristics that apply to both lean and obese PCOS are low grade inflammation and oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in the body.

However, characteristics of lean PCOS can differ from those of obese PCOS in body composition and other factors, such as hormonal profiles.

Insulin resistance in lean PCOS

Insulin resistance is when cells within the body do not respond to insulin, so the tissues do not use insulin correctly during glucose metabolism. Insulin resistance can occur in either form of PCOS. Even if body fat levels are low, people with PCOS can have high blood insulin and insulin resistance.

However, rates of insulin resistance are lower in people with lean PCOS, with one study showing insulin resistance to affect 83.3% of participants with lean PCOS compared with 93.1% of participants with overweight or obesity.

Research in this area is ongoing, as it is still unclear whether insulin resistance affects people with lean PCOS to the same degree as those with overweight or obese PCOS.

Symptoms of lean PCOS

Symptoms of PCOS may include:

irregular menstrual cycles

excessive hair growth on areas of the body, such as the face, called hirsutism

acne

thinning hair

skin tags

areas of darkened skin, such as in the groin, underneath the breasts, and along neck creases

People with lean PCOS are particularly likely to experience symptoms similar to ones that affect females during puberty, such as acne, irregular periods, and depression.

Coran’s final word rings through the ancient room. For a moment everyone stays frozen, relaying Coran’s haunting story in their heads, reeling from the severity of all they’ve learned.

Then that moment turns into another.

And another.

“Okay,” Hunk says, when it’s clear that Coran is not giving any further instructions. “How do we go about this…search?” He looks pointedly at the various floating balls of light around the giant room, impossibly high shelves, and incorporeal artefacts and literature. “Is there some sort of ancient Altean database search?”

There’s a poorly faked cough from beside Keith, Lance rapidly looking away to hide his grin at Hunk’s dry comment. Coran looks at the two of them judgementally, eyebrows raised, before answering.

“Of course not,” he chides, as if its obvious. “The Lions were the first piece of technology to successfully work alongside concentrated quintessence. This place has been around long before that.”

“Right,” Hunk says, throwing his hands up in exaggeration. “Of course. How stupid of me to ask.”

The sarcasm flies right over Coran’s head, who looks pleased at Hunk’s concession. Despite his situation, and the time limit he’s sure he’s on, Keith has to fight down laughter.

“I think what Hunk is looking for is instructions,” Shiro says diplomatically when Coran once again lapses into silence. “The specific kind, if you don’t mind. Reminder that when the castle first started construction there was only single-celled life on Earth, so we’re a little behind.”

Coran snorts. “No need to exaggerate, Number One, I’m happy to explain.”

The humans make brief eye contact with each other, visibly and wordlessly communicating, before simultaneously deciding to drop it.

“Everything here, as you can observe, is related to quintessence,” Coran begins to explain. Finally. (Keith loves the man, seriously, but he’s not known as one to get to the point.) “As, of course,” he nods at Keith, “is your problem. To solve a problem relating to quintessence, you need to use it.”

“So it’s a fight fire with fire situation,” Lance surmises.

Coran nods. “More or less. Now, join hands and close your eyes.”

Pidge grabs Keith’s left hand and squeezes, smiling, which along with making him feel especially supported and loved — Pidge is most definitely very affectionate, but rarely is her affection so unmasked, it means a great deal to Keith that she knows he needs it and she’s being so brazen with it now — reminds him quite ardently that Lance’s hand is still tangled with his. He smiles wider.

“Pay attention, now,” Coran says, snapping Keith out of his thoughts. “All of you must sink into each other the same way you do when you’re forming Voltron. When you do so, your quintessence will be entwined as one, and your desires will no longer be of one individual person but instead of many presences, as one.”

“That makes no sense,” Hunk mutters.

“Your face makes no sense,” Lance shoots back.

“Shut up, goober.”

Allura laughs. Shiro shushes the lot of them, but Keith knows he’s holding back a smile himself.

Adept at dealing with the lot of them — they are, objectively, annoying — Coran continues right on. “All that raw energy in one place is attractive to all other energy in the area. If you were all to hone your energy on one specific desire, one specific type of quintessence, it would be easier to attract. So after I finish speaking, all of you are going to focus as intently as you can, on yourselves and each other, as you are used to doing, and then together you are going to search for what will become clear.”

As usual with anything to do with quintessence, the instructions are vague, contradictory. But more pressing than any frustrations at unclarity is Keith’s fear — that this will fail, that his quintessence will remain warped, that he will lose Lance again and again and again, that there will be nothing he can do to stop it. The fear eats at him; angry almost at being held at bay for as long as he’s held onto Lance, bubbling right under his skin. His breathing picks up, chest rising and falling rapidly, and his gloves become slick with sweat. Memories of Lance flash through his mind, rapidly, never lasting even one full second; Lance, face down on the floor of an Empire warship, hole through his head, Lance, covered in spatters of blood in the training room, skin torn and ripped, Lance, incinerated into nothing. Bile rises in his throat as images of Lance, dead and injured and dying, are all he can see; copper floods his mouth as he remembers the scent of iron in the air, blaster fire rings in his ears, his heart rate skyrockets —

You are your own worst enemy, a voice chides, and then something cool and crackly and something else Keith can’t put a name too envelops his mind, cutting off the string of memory, filling his senses with the smell of lavender and sunshine and the sound of constant humming.

Lance.

Lance is barely established as a chiding presence in Keith’s mind before five more surges of energy come rushing in: the most familiar to him, strong and steady and goofy , a smaller, sparky surge of energy, a buzzing energy that gives the impression of an old, impossibly huge Redwood, an energy that feels like the first bite of a warm cookie, and one that Keith can only describe as hot pink.

Shiro. Pidge. Coran. Hunk. Allura.

His family.

The six of them encircle him, crowding his mindscape, forcing out the strangling memories of his deepest fears. They entangle themselves with him, strung up like a wired earbuds left in a pocket; their quintessence, entwined as one, no longer one individual person but many presences, as one.

It feels like strength. It feels like hope. It feels like family.

It feels like Voltron.

There’s not so much a verbal or mental command so much as there’s a universal desire for one thing. Outside of their mortal bodies, outside of a physical realm, they’re capable of more than is possible, and suddenly sifting through all the quintessence in the massive, ancient room is no longer an impossibility but simply a reality. In a way that Keith can’t quite process but is aware that he is doing, they surge their energy forward, in some way, comparing it instantly which every other ball of potential in the area, searching for what they’re looking for.

The Answer is at the near ceiling of the cave; dark, heavy, not much a presence so much as a lack of one. It’s foreboding, not as bright as everything else nor as dark as maligned energy feels. Something separate, something they have never felt before.

Instantly they wrap around it, pulling it back down, to where they stand. They pull back away from each other, gently untangling and sinking back into themselves. It’s extremely disorienting, like walking up tangled in bedsheets and trying to pull yourself free while only half awake. Keith’s vision is blurry when he’s finally home in his own body again, and it takes him several blinks too clear it.

Floating in between them, still and unmoving, is the fix to his clusterfuck.

About chimerism;

My OC Chimera is a genetic chimera. [To explain the coincidence between her name and her condition, I came up with the idea of her having chimerism much after I named her, and did not want to change her name.] In this post, I will be explaining— to the best of my knowledge— what chimerism is, more specifically, the kind of chimerism that my OC Chimera has. Take what I say with a grain of salt, as I am not fully educated on the topic. If I make any mistakes, please do correct me.

Chimerism is a condition in which an individual has multiple lines of genetically distinct cells in their body. Most people are microchimeras— meaning that they have a small population of cells expressing different genetics than the rest. Chimerism can physically manifest in several ways, including heterochromia, Blaschko's lines, and hypo/hyperpigmentation, although it is definitely not limited to these.

The type of chimerism relevant to my OC is tetragametic chimerism. Tetragametic chimerism occurs when two zygotes merge. A zygote is the direct result of the fertilization of an egg cell. It comes before the embryo. After the fusion of these two zygotes, the result continues to develop normally into a single organism. An individual resulting from tetragametic chimerism will have genetically varying cells. In the case of Chimera, the two zygotes that merged displayed opposite sex chromosomes. Therefore, a population of her cells possess the XX chromosomes, and another XY. This is called 46,XX/46,XY chimerism.

Misc.

Most chimeras actually live their whole lives without knowing they are a genetic chimera. The only way to actually confirm if an individual is a chimera is through genetic testing.

Chimerism is not to be confused with mosaicism.

Chimerism happens early enough during development that there is no chance of conjoined twins.

Addressing misconceptions I've seen

In tetragametic chimerism, one twin does not "kill" the other. Something occurs, and one zygote is absorbed by the other. These are literal cells we're talking about. They cannot make conscious decisions. One of the horrible things I've seen said to an ACTUAL XX/XY chimera was along the lines of this. Remember. Chimeras. Did. Not. Kill. Their. Twin. It may be obvious to whoever's reading this, but I'm still putting this reminder in. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having chimerism. One twin did not kill the other. They simply fused.

Chimerism, in the case of cats, does not always cause a split colored face. A split colored face can occur due to chimerism, but not every chimera cat has a split face. A split face pattern is actually completely normal in tortoiseshell cats. Heterochromia in split-face cats can also be caused by a gene linked to fur color.

Chimerism is usually not harmful to the individual. A similar condition, called mosaicism, can be.

Chimerism is NOT a disability. Another thing I've seen someone say about people with chimerism.

Chimerism is not the same as Vanishing Twin Syndrome.

I recommend you do some research on chimerism by yourself, as my explanation does not go in depth on the other variations of chimerism, due to this mainly being focused on my OC.

Prompt #9: Interpret the most amazing thing you know about nature

Recently, I learned that trees have the ability to heal both the mind and body by releasing natural chemicals that trigger measurable physiological and psychological benefits! The moment you breathe in that crisp, earthy air, your body responds. Stress fades, your heart rate slows, and your mind clears. This isn’t just a feeling, it’s science!

Trees, particularly pine, cedar, cypress, spruce, fir, and oak, release airborne compounds called phytoncides, which act as a defense mechanism against pests and disease. These chemicals help trees resist harmful bacteria, fungi, and insects. For humans, exposure to phytoncides has measurable health benefits. Studies show that they boost the immune system by increasing the activity of natural killer (NK) cells, a type of white blood cell that helps destroy infected or cancerous cells. They also lower cortisol levels, reducing stress and promoting a state of relaxation. This means that simply being in a forest, surrounded by trees, can actively improve immune function and help regulate the body’s stress response.

A study conducted at Nippon Medical School in Tokyo found that spending just a few hours in a forest increased NK cell activity for up to 30 days (Li, Q. et al., 2008). This suggests that the health benefits of nature extend well beyond the time spent outdoors. Another study compared the effects of walking in a forest versus walking in an urban area. Results showed that those who walked in nature had lower blood pressure and reduced stress levels, indicating that natural environments have a direct calming effect on the body (Park et al., 2010).

When phytoncides are inhaled, they activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation and recovery. This shift counteracts the constant "fight-or-flight" response triggered by daily stressors. As a result, phytoncide exposure reduces anxiety, improves mood, and enhances sleep quality. A research study found that individuals who spent time in forests had lower levels of depression and reported feeling more mentally refreshed compared to those in urban settings (Hansen et al., 2017). These effects suggest that exposure to nature is not only beneficial for short-term stress relief but may also play a role in preventing long-term mental health issues.

The benefits of spending time in nature extend beyond mental well-being to physical health improvements. A study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that people who spent time in the forest had lower blood pressure, reduced inflammation, and a stronger immune response (Lee et al., 2011). 04.26.2025 - Sometimes it's like nothing has changed, I don't have cancer, but I do. I feel fine, nothing seems different. I'm not sick. The surgery to remove the melanoma from my back is almost fully healed and my mind tricks me into thinking that was it. You had surgery, cancer was removed, you're good. I met with the doctor that currently treats me for my ongoing, nobody knows why, anemia problem. He is a hematology/oncology doctor and he will be treating me for the cancer. He's 38 years old, a Sikh and the absolute coolest individual to deal with me and my issue. Doesn't flinch when I refer to him as "man" instead of doctor in our conversations and just has a reassuring nature about him. How much of this is learned as an oncologist and how much is just part of being a Sikh doesn't matter. My conversation with him last week has left me with a real sense of calm. I've asked the few people I've told about this not to bring it up every time I see them. I think I've mentioned that I don't want to be "Cancer Guy". My doctor said there's every chance the cancer can be eliminated within a year of treatment or at least maintained essentially forever (Reminder: I'm 74).

Presently, we're waiting on result of a biopsy that either wasn't done or not forwarded to my doctor, to determine if the cancer has a BRAF genetic mutation that would allow for targeted treatment consisting of two pills a day for a year. The drug Keytruda (as advertised on TV!) is what would be used. It's 50/50 that melanoma cells contain this mutation. If this mutation is not present, then a more sweeping immunotherapy treatment will happen consisting of infusions every 3-4 weeks for a year. Both treatments have side effects that I may or may not experience. I'm ready, I just want to get on with it one way or the other.

Riding my motorcycle (Triumph Speed Triple 1050) and going to bike shows, car shows, live music, taking pics of my town and having cancer not run my life. I feel good and I'm thinking clearly, I'm moving toward a new reality that I can deal with.
