also quite obsessed with karl being as detached from the story as he is. there's nothing that makes him have to be the detective that has to be involved, but he unknowingly dooms himself by agreeing to work with the KYAL cult. every other detective basically deals with elias head on except weissman, who only meets him right before he kills him. like he's right when he says "by my choices" because everything that leads him to being mixed up with the mannix cult is himself. it's the gambling debts and the choice to do the dirty work for an organisation he knows nothing about. he's the only one that doesn't encounter that body doing police work and it's specifically because he's told to cover it up. he gets himself into the mess and eventually fixes it but the fact that esther always dies in the doomed timelines and he's always too late even if he starts wanting to change things ("till this child. esther.") it just makes me very ill

#sorry jane who heard this on her dms but now im posting it to tumblr cause im having a category 5 woman moment. AND ALTERNATIVELY:#i am also EXTREMELY obsessed with how its a time loop and the idea (so sorry tumblr user whose post i have lost and was inspired by)#weissman was just so fucking hard to deal with that they made sure that he was in their pockets. i just like the idea of the loop--#--having like. fixed points that elias would need to ensure the dystopia (body is covered up/the investigation closes/etc) but #how they get there is a slightly slower process and the earliest loops were the messiest/most unpredictable #and what we see in the show itself is like. the most streamlined version over hundreds of loops and attempts #so karl specifically. lonely that he is and determined to survive. AND with a cruel streak against people he doesn't like #kept nearly blowing their operation so they began to incorporate him in it instead #there's also another tragedy in there if /esther/ is what they realise works best against him..#just love and kindness for a girl that weissman comes to see as family and they immediately exploit it after learning during an early loop #im ignoring specific plot points here (polly seemingly panicking when esther shows up at the station) but I DO NOT CARE.#THERE'S ANGST HAPPENING RN. #i got my hands on her newest book recently and god. GOD #i finished that book and just lay down on the floor for an hour because i had to just absorb it all #it felt like coming out of the theater after watching ATSV for the first time #i was so full of adrenaline and the sheer impact of everything i read was hitting all at once #so perfectly paced so intuitively panelled #it feels so reductive to call myself a comic artist when emily caroll does too #shes so. she's just in an entirely different league #it feels like there should be a different word for her #im so far away from creating anything half as lifechanging as that book was #its so motivating and inspiring but its also like #fuck #FUCK #my work feels so damn juvenile in comparison #emily carroll i owe you my life #i need to rip this book apart (not literally)#i have so much to learn about writing and art #everyone read “a guest in the house” by emily carroll #i hope she gets all the accolades she could ever want or need #god #i need a tattoo of this book #expeditiously

But it’s okay. I’m hungry for more Emilute content so I have to pick up the pen and do it myself even if it’ll be majority angst with sprinkles of fluff.

Writing my Redemption!Lute Au has been on my to-do list since the episode Welcome to Heaven so I’m praying I can finally make this happen and I hope that I don’t succumb to the perfectionist inside of me because I do think having Lute redeem herself is an interesting angle that I doubt the canon would ever follow.

Also it’s an excuse to make a slow burn Emilute fic and I’d eat dirt for any Emilute content.

I have a problem with 90% of the fests I see advertised with prompting. I love the idea of sharing plot bunnies or creative ideas. I don't like it when the prompt forms have a dozen fields outside of the prompt that further specifies anything. Ship, rating, characters, triggers, etc. A prompt in a standard fest is NOT a request for a gift. The writer is not obligated to write you a story. If you as a prompter have a list of requirements for the prompt, then you are not offering a prompt. You are saying, writer you must write me this exact story. I do not understand how that is seen as the norm in fandom right now instead of rude and limiting?

As long as you don't gift the story to the prompter, you are under NO OBLIGATION to follow any of those superfluous prompt fields. It's a prompt. A starting point for inspiration.

I cannot count how many fest prompts I've read through, found a prompt that sang to my muse and started crafting an idea only to then read 'Do Not Write: age gap relationship. Or only X or Y characters' . Who is this prompter to tell me what stories I am allowed to create? That is not how a prompt works! That is how a gift request works. Stop putting me in a fucking box.

#for the love of whatever deity you subscribe to these fest organizers need to learn the difference between a prompt fest and a gift fest #and not be conflating the two #because if I were to write the story that the prompt inspired me to write and that didn't follow the “extra requirements”...#... I would get labeled like a jerk for my participation which wouldn't be fair to any creator to be punished for their act of creation #if you are so dang bent out of shape that the prompt has to be used for wolfstar then write the dang thing yourself #prompts must be freely given #you do not retain any control of the final product by supplying a prompt #this is probably part of why authors refuse any prompts from fans #fandom discourse #fest discourse #prompting discourse #this whole thing makes me rage and Ive dropped out of fests before even officially joining the fest #e is for echo #A PROMPT IS NOT A GIFT #you are not entitled to the creators output #and you are not entitled to a writer creating a story to your preferences unless its specifically a gift exchange

I’ve been watching and listening to a lot of Shelley Parker-Chan’s interviews lately and I have such a huge respect for the way they’ve answered questions bringing up The Untamed as a comparison, saying that they started writing SWBTS many years before The Untamed came out, but that danmei/BL works and their own work definitely come from the same place. It was so healing to hear them say that out loud tbh, such an iconic answer.

Other fun stuff I loved hearing about:

The danmei book series they often seem to recommend is Guardian by Priest.

They’ve mentioned that The Radiant Emperor draws inspiration from Chinese court dramas but they are not actually very into xianxia or wuxia series.

They explained that the language in The Radiant Emperor series has been influenced by clumsily translated webnovels, bringing that ’bilingual’ quality to their text.

you know i had a fun little vp idea i wanted to do for the cyberpunk anniversary but i haven't had the energy to even touch it recently so i'll just settle with saying that this game impacted me in ways i never thought it would when i first picked it up 3 years ago. i knew i would enjoy it, i had been looking forward to it for a long time, and despite a ~controversial~ launch, i had a fucking blast from day 1 (on ps4 no less). regardless of bugs and memes and public dunking, the story grabbed me like nothing else could at the time, and it reignited so much of my passion and motivation for art that i had lost in the clutches of mental illness and i'll always be grateful for that. it introduced me to so many wonderful people (some whom i carry very close to my heart), and maybe most personally surprising, it gave me an outlet to understand parts of myself that i had been too afraid to acknowledge for a long time, the courage to accept and embrace myself as non-binary, and allow myself to just BE without trying to convince myself i'm crazy. that's not what i expected from the get-go but it's been a really fun journey to be on ngl

#yeah this fandom been a little rocky in places but i would be lying if i said this community here wasn't special to me #so much love and passion and creativity to be around and be inspired by #so many people who have been impacted by this silly little heartwrenching game #devs who have poured their heart into it to deliver something genuinely incredible #its one of those strange things that really did fully change the trajectory of this little leg of my life #to think that until 3 years ago i hadn't even touched art in a decade #now there are lovely people who want to spend money on my work #3 years ago i bought my first (and only) refurbished ps4 to play this game and now im sitting on a fancy gaming laptop #ive said it before but vp has been such an important creative outlet too #its allowed me to live my dreams of being a film director. a cinematographer. a writer.#the whole game has let me be so damn self-indulgent sometimes i feel like a kid again just unashamedly playing barbie #finding the JOY of just. creating.#i learned so much about myself through an OC because of this game #it went from 'huh what is this feeling? gender envy?' to being like full blown 'oh yea. i get it now.' so much of my life makes sense kfslf #and i met people who mean the world to me on top of it all #woof anyways #i know i say it a lot but genuinely thank u to yall who have encouraged me and supported me and who enjoy the things that i make #youve made such a difference in my life without knowing it!

A tiny painting inspired by Everybody's Waiting💡

(explanation of the symbolism below the cut if you want to read about it!)

The lightbulb itself is made out of the symbols used in poetry analysis to portray stressed and unstressed syllables (macron and breve notation). There are five of the stressed symbols (straight lines) and four of the unstressed symbols (curved lines) between them, because that's the rhythm of the main line that is repeated in the chorus (everybody's waiting at the ball). Inside the bulb there are the five straight lines for the stressed syllables because in poetry the focus is almost always on the stressed syllables, thus being the thing everyone pays attention to - the light. Then at the bottom of the bulb there are four curved lines for the unstressed syllables, since they are not focused on as much, but they are still important and hold the whole line and verse together.

“How to still be an active fan of a creator when previously being an obsessive fan for most of your teens because they were one of the few good things keeping you from killing yourself in middle school so now trying to become a more casual fan feels like a betrayal and I cannot get into new fandoms because the high I got in middle school from the extreme emotion switch cannot be replicated both because I’m literally twenty and I’m far from suicidal so now and I love these creators with my whole heart and still engage with all of their new content but I want to move on while also still being a fan but I just can’t?”

I think one of the things I love the most about Haikyuu is that even though the whole manga comes from a place of love from Furudate who created the story specifically to get people into volleyball, there is nothing to make you feel bad about not wanting to play anymore

There are characters who are completely obsessed with volleyball. There are characters who aren't obsessed but are interested enough to keep going. There are characters who weren't into it but did it anyway and then just couldn't stop. There are characters who started doing volleyball and then realized they didn't like it anymore, then left and were better for it. There are characters who are like "this was cool and it was nice but I don't want to do this forever". There are characters who never play but still support the teams anyway

And the story validates every single one of these experiences. There's no "this experience is better than that experience", there are just characters who like it, don't like it, are obsessed with it or can appreciate everything that happens in a game regardless of their feelings towards it

It's just really nice to go through the story and feel the whole acceptance through the writing itself, to see that Furudate is encouraging you to try volleyball, to experience how fun it can be, and if it's not fun for you or you fell out of love with it or just don't want to do it anymore, then that's fine! At least you experienced it! At least you tried! At least you learned something about yourself! And hopefully you made friends along the way!

Haikyuu inspires people to try something new but never does it show a characters negative feelings or lack of feelings towards it as invalid and wrong. It just encourages you to do what makes you happy. I really appreciate that
