Tip for adult artists if your focus is improving your anatomy and drawing bodies that feel more grounded in a space, genuinely one of the best exercises for that is to draw smut.

You don't have to post it. Hell, you can burn it when you're done for all it matters. But hardly anything will give you more of an understanding of a realistic human body interacting in 3D space when you smush two or more of them together.

and now as a sidenote, it's time for mimi rambling/ PSA ! (which might sounds dickish here and there)

I've seen an absolute sudden increase in "daily [characters] blog"[which consist, for those who don't know, of drawing a certain character or thing everyday (or trying to)] and as somebody who's been posting daily for over 2 years (if you ignore small breaks i took on rarer occasion here and there) I feel like I'm in a position where I can say things about these kinds of blogs.

if you're the owner of one of these kind blogs or think about making one, this message's for you

to current owners of such blogs:

do not FORCE yourself to draw/post everyday, much less MULTIPLE TIMES a day

even though it's the goal of these kinds of blogs, do not tell yourself that just because it has DAILY in the name, you NEED to post everyday. Use queue if needed, don't post if you don't feel like it.

You're going to burnout sooo quickly if you just draw slop because you don't want to skip a day, no one LIKES slop posts made just to fill in the day, trust me, i have many! No one is going to hunt you down for forgetting a day or even mention it to you or anything! (or at worse if you know you'll have a period of innactivity, make a post about it to your followers that you can later delete if you really want)

Don't try answering requests as soon as possible just because you don't want to "disappoint" people or whatever! you owe people nothing, and especially not a "quick reply", again, you'll burn out if you force yourself into doing people's request

also this might be more of a personal opinion, but, please keep it to posting once a day (or like twice if absolutely needed), if you're just going to post a ton a day, might as well just post to a main where you just so happen to also post daily (also lazier posts made only because you want to rush multiple drawings every day are just bruh.)

to people considering making one of these blogs:

honestly, don't. You want to challenge yourself into drawing everyday? Do that on your main blog! You have too many doodles/art and want to post it all? Post it on your main! Don't put yourself under the limitations of having a blog specifically for DAILY posting, especially for a SINGLE character. Even if you love a character, you WILL get bored/burned out/just out of ideas for what to even draw with only ONE character

Sure it's cool and everyone else is doing it, but you're also putting yourself under unnecessary stress and limits. Not only your art, but yourself will suffer of these limits eventually

You trust and know yourself enough to know you WILL post daily on that blog? AND won't let it take so much over your life and schedule that you feel terrible when you don't post/decide to abandon it? Then make one, who am i to stop you ig

You wanna make one on a whim because everyone else is doing it and it looks fun? But you don't know if you're going to actually hold up to posting everyday? Yet again, don't. Don't make one. Just post on your account, let people know you by your username, not because of some gimmick (like I mean, ppl know me as (starving-)mimi, not as "daily dst funny" or whatever, do you really want to be only known as "that person who draws [character] everyday" and not as yourself? If you do then ig go make one, but I think it's much nicer to be recognised for who you are than to be just known as "that person who draws a character daily")

tl;dr: don't put yourself under the curse of silly daily posting on a whim just because everyone else is doing it and it's the current trend, and don't post slop art just because you don't want to skip a day POST SLOP BECAUSE YOU WANNA TORTURE PEOPLE WITH IT BHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA cough, i mean. cough.

this might all seems very obvious, but i think people don't realise that daily posting isn't always as fun as it seems :')

heheh~ yeah @kotikaleo i do have unnecessarily specific thoughts about the ring designs i did for this piece! lol firstly, these are ABSOLUTELY fidget rings. cuz i'd have done a more mechanical/gear specific design but any human who's worn a ring on the reg knows that having a bunch of little notches in it is HELL, so cute spinny rings it is. secondly, Viktor's has "in all timeliness" engraved inside of his and Jayce's has "in all possibilities". and thirdly, they HAD to have to round blue sapphires in them because every time i rewatch Arcane i get this gut wrenching feeling during episode 4 where i - very viscerally - feel like maybe the last beautiful thing they accomplished together, before anyone or anything truly started tearing their world apart, was fortifying the hex gems. in that moment, it must have felt like they were about to finally take the next big step towards everything they dreamed about~ but... we all know how that turned out. so! YEAH~! (O W O) those are my thoughts on my, Science Husbands, ring designs heheh~

Voice actors are NOT the same as actors.

It takes a specific kind of skill-set and training to be able to warp and meld the voice. It takes a certain kind of talent and dedication to hone that talent into the ability to meld the voice and invoke emotion with one's voice alone. Actors are used to using their voice secondarily to their body language and their facial expressions. It's all mirrored back on camera. They do have nuance. But it's a different kind of nuance and a different kind of training to produce that nuance.

Voice actors might get their likeness transposed on their character's design, and maybe their mannerisms might seep into the character's animation. But when it's all said and done: their presence is in their voice. They are bringing a character to life, showing that emotion in their voice, trying to keep a specific accent, drawl, pitch, tone in that voice and keep it consistent for their recording sessions.

The voice actor is like a classically trained musician who can play first chair in a competitive, world-renown orchestra. The actor (who fills the voice actor's role) is like a moot who played violin in beginner and intermediate high school orchestra and thinks they can get into Juilliard with that 2-4 years of experience.

This doesn't mean that the HS orchestra moot can't play. They can even be really good at it. Maybe they won competitions and sat first chair. But they are not in the same league as the person who's been training their whole lives and lives and breathes to hone their craft using the instrument and all of the training they've ever acquired to perfect it. They are not meant for the same roles. They are not in the same caliber. You do not hire the HS equivalent when you want to play complex music in a competitive orchestra.

Actors are not the same as voice actors.

And furthermore, actors - especially big name actors - taking the roles of animated characters for big budget films or TV pilots makes no sense anyways when - at least in the case of TV pilots - there's not a point to hiring a big budget actors anyways. That money could be used elsewhere (like paying your animators), and the talent that is brought onto the screen for X character could then be hired on to voice said character no recasting required.

I wouldn't say voice acting as a profession is in danger exactly, but it's certainly being disrespected and overlooked for celebrity clout, and this has ALWAYS been an issue. Shoot, even Robin Williams knew that much - which is why he tried so hard not to be used as a marketing chess piece for Aladdin and got royally pissed off when it happened anyways. People shouldn't go to any movie (but especially not animated films) because "oh famous actor is in it". People should go because it's a good movie and the voice acting is good.

People who honest to god think that voice actors are replaceable because "oh well anyone can voice act" or "I like xyz celebrity so naturally it'll be good" ... Honestly I just wish you'd reassess your priorities because you're missing the point and are part of the problem.

Voice Actors ≠ Actors.

you know, i know there's some grumbling regarding how the drifter tends to have their very personal conversations in the KIM messenger rather than face to face with the Hex (talking about the Zariman Incident, talking about Duviri) and not to mention the whole animating, voicing, and playing out the scene in a development standpoint.

But. but. but.

Do you know how much easier it is to have a serious conversation about trauma when there's a screen between you and the person you're talking to? How even when you're baring your heart open to the other person, at least you can do it. How many times have you choked up, unable to speak the words that you know you can articulate but there's so many emotions just caught up in your chest and your throat and tangling up everything you say? How many times do you start to talk about your own trauma before you just break down into tears, crying and unable to talk about it?

I think the KIM messenger talks make sense for the Drifter (for mine in particular, at least) because they can talk about Duviri. We all know the Drifter downplays what happened to them, laces their words with sarcasm and laughs it off, but it still happened; the intensity of how it weighs on them is known only to them, and even though they could talk to the Operator, Ordis, or Lotus - why? Why bother? ("You're the me that got rescued from this shit. I'm the you that did not. Not sure which of us got it worse.") There's bigger things to worry about, more battles to get ready for, and honestly... who would care. The kid got their shit together, they've got a parental figure in Lotus, a caretaker in Ordis, and the Drifter...

Well. They're the Drifter for a reason.

So, the Hex are curious. They want to know. Why is the Drifter called the Drifter, what happened in Duviri, what happened on the Zariman. And the Drifter, so lonely and so sad, and so very envious of the counterpart that got to escape, to get to have a family, to get to be loved and wanted and adored - and the Drifter, so used to being forgotten and abandoned, sits down at their keyboard and says, "Well. You know the top level story."

It's easier to talk about Duviri when you know that if, at any point, you can't do it anymore, you can log off. Shut it down. A power plug on that trauma buried down so deep in your brain you tried forgetting about it - and how'd that go, kiddo? - and the other person can say, "Hey. I see this is hurting you, we don't have to talk about it."

Putting the ball in the Drifter's court. Giving them control over how they approach what happened to them. Giving them control over how much they want to share. Giving them some fucking agency and control over something in their life that is profoundly theirs. But the Hex - as the ranks goes up and the chemistry gets higher - won't let the Drifter hide in their pain, they'll push and pull and say, "Hey, I care about you. Let me help. Please, let me help. Please trust me enough to let me try to help and care for you."

So... yeah. I just think Drifter talking about their problems through the KIM messenger is pretty good and a good idea for delving into their character, because we've seen how they downplay their trauma when you talk to them face to face.

Raelynn came sweeping into the room like she owned the place. “Where’s my brother” she demanded when Evan made eye contact with her.

“Not here” he mumbled “how did you get in here?”

“Really” she huffed rolling her eyes. “That’s what you’re worried about? My life is in ruins and you’re worried about how I got in here?”

Raising an eyebrow at her theatrics “it’s a reasonable question. The last I checked the door was locked.”

“Fine” she raised her hand, a key dangled from a My Kitty key chain.

“Jayden gave that to you for emergencies only” Evan sighed with an air of someone resigning himself to something unpleasant.

“Weren’t you listening” putting her hands on her hips “my life is over. There is no bigger emergency.”

Snorting he got up to put his book away. “What is the emergency this time?”

“Emily dumped me” she swooned dropping into a nearby chair. “It’s so unfair” she glared at him when the silence lengthened between them. “Aren’t you going to ask me why? Aren’t you curious? Don’t you care? I am your sister after all.”

“Almost” Evan mumbled. He regretted it the moment the word came out when her face darkened in rage.

“I see how it is” jumping to her feet. “Fine. Be that way. See if I care.” With a dramatic huff she flung her hair over her shoulder and strode swiftly for the door. “Don’t come to me the next time you need advice.”

Slapping a hand to his head he sighed. “I'd never go to her for help. She’s the last person I’d ever seek out for advice” Getting up he shut the door his future sister in law left open. Groaning he saw her crying on Jayden’s shoulder. “Great. Just Great.” Wondering what new scheme Jayden would dream up to help his sister.

“Jayden no” he flung his hands in the air as he moved aimlessly around the room.

“But…”

“Don’t make me repeat myself," sighing Evan crossed his arms.

“It worked with our brothers. This’ll work too. I know it will” Jayden enthused ignoring the glare Evan directed at him. “They’re perfect for each other.”

“How many times do I have to say it” he asked with a feeling he was talking to a wall for all the effect his words were having. “No. I won’t help you set your sister up with some guy. I’ve had enough of your schemes. If you want to do this you’re on your own.”

“It’s not just some guy” Jayden insisted. “I work with him. He’s a good guy. Just broke up with his girlfriend of three years. He’s perfect for Raelyn.”

“Jayden no” he pleaded like a man going over a steep cliff.

“All you have to do is be here” Jayden stampeded over his protests. “I’ll do everything. Cook. Clean. Entertain. All you have to do is look pretty on my arm.”

“Jayden” shaking his head he put his hand over his eyes. Sitting on the bed Evan laid down “turn the light off I’m tired.”

Once the light was off Jayden laid down beside him “tomorrow I’ll ask Jasper to supper. I’ll arrange it for Saturday.”

Turning on his side Evan pulled his pillow over his had to block out the incessant sound of Jayden’s voice. After several minutes he sat up. Tossing the blankets to the side “Jayden stop. I’m tired. I want to sleep.”

“Sorry” he apologized “I’m just so excited.”

Evan got up, grabbed an extra blanket from the closet, took his pillow from the bed he moved towards the door. “Promise that when this fails that you’ll give up on scheming forever.”

“It won’t fail” Jayden assured him “Jonah and Ethan proves I’m good at this.”

“Yeah” he grumbled “keep telling yourself that while you’re sleeping alone tonight.”

Saturday rolled around. Evan was busy chopping tomatoes for a salad. He’d known he’d be roped into helping Jayden with his scheme. It was impossible for Jayden to organize entertaining guests and cooking at the same time.

“I knew you’d change your mind and help” Jayden hugged him from behind. “Wait until you meet Jasper. You’ll see I’m right. He’s perfect for Raelyn.”

“I sincerely doubt anyone will ever be perfect for her” he mumbled as Jayden went to get the door.

A few minutes later he came back into the room. “Evan I want you to meet Jasper” he introduced his co-worker.

“It’s nice to meet you” Evan said turning from the counter “forgive me if I don’t shake hands.” He held up his hands that were covered in tomato juice.

“I don’t mind if you don’t” Jasper winked holding out his hand.

Feeling somewhat self-conscious Evan glanced towards Jayden before shaking hands. He made eye contact with Jasper as the man gripped his hand firmly. There was something unsettling in his dark eyes that made him feel uneasy. Pulling his hand away he moved to the sink “supper will be ready in about twenty minutes.”

“Want some help” Jasper asked eyes following every move Evan made.

Turning from the sink where he’d washed his hands, his eyes sliding towards Jayden who just shrugged his shoulders leaving the decision to him. “No I’ve got everything under control. Why don’t you watch the game or something” Evan suggested glad for once to be stuck in the kitchen. “I’m sure Raelyn will be here soon. You wouldn’t want to be stuck in here with me.”

“I wouldn’t say that” Jasper smirked before following Jayden into the living room.

“Were you trying all along?” Eris asked. “Tell me, when was the first? Last night was not in truth our first meeting, was it, Lady Archeron? I should have known. Did you hesitate, to see what I might give?” What he would sacrifice, how long he would look? Eris had use, no interest in such matters. Of course it was a lie- what was Elain but magic, magic, magic- Eris was weak, hungry, but not one who enchanted easily. Silence swelled. “What,” Elain snapped, voice a void. Eris had never wished to get his hands on another being his whole long life, but he wished to see her eyes in blind rage to a degree that could only have been madness, “I don’t know how to do it myself! Do you think anyone is interested in teaching me magic? You think I don’t hear what they call me? Poor Elain, broken Elain. If you’re just like every other faery in this stupid, wretched kingdom, I will do it myself. I will kill Cassian, and Rhysand, and Morrigan and”- Eris had to look. Gone was the controlled, vengeful glory- here was grief, shattering. He felt sick all over again, bile rising. It was effort, to swallow it down. “I thought you’d decided against slaughtering the entire gentry.” Elain blinked. Red-cheeked, pale lipped, a strange look like a smile flickered across her face. A laugh, made a ghost by circumstance.

"You think I could?” “Daisy will ensure no body is found, no magic unleashed,” Eris could not quite meet her gaze, “Start with the shadow singer. He’ll let you close enough to get the knife. That blade is not right. Will give you an edge against the others.” Caught, a moment of neither here nor there, Elain frozen. The future, doubtless. Eris took the time to rake back his disgusting hair. Fever sweat. He reeked of salt, arms a grey, hanging muddle, too much effort to move more until he’d regained his strength.
