i wonder if one of the reasons yang cheng never confessed to xia qing is because, though they were good friends even before the whole e-soul saga, though she says she recognized him in his homemade e-soul suit very early on, neither she nor little pomelo believed in him enough to break through that 0 trust value.

and maybe that was because she was waiting for him to believe in himself first, but it's hard to do so when you have an objective metric that straight up tells you no one has confidence in you. and maybe she didn't understand what that would be like, but from his perspective, it'd probably just be another reminder that, outside of being e-soul, yang cheng the person isn't enough.

it wasn't enough at first and then it still wasn't enough and now it will never be enough. shang shao was confident and rich and intelligent and charming, and worse, he was a true friend, a true believer, he was kind and determined to pursue justice. he even recommended yang cheng to the finalists bracket. but he didn't believe in yang cheng either.

and maybe he did in the end, both him and xia qing and even little pomelo, after yang cheng becomes e-soul for real. but it wasn't enough, after all. yang cheng the person failed to save shang chao. yang cheng the person hesitated at the most crucial moment. in the end, he has no value outside of being e-soul.

it's unfortunate that dorian often gets characterized as just kind of a Generic Best Friend™️ for the inquisitor, bc i feel like he's actually SO odd. juvenile delinquent child prodigy mage who kept getting into fights and dropping out of various schools. refuses to take the well of sorrows on moral grounds. progressive by tevinter noble standards, but still throwing in clunkers like "well... slavery isn't THAT bad" in conversation. but still has enough conflicted feelings about it to wallow in Tevinter Guilt about arlathan and slavery, and genuinely discusses it with solas? and then if given a few years, he does decide to do something about it. only for solas to go "sorry but i have to destroy this world :/ try to enjoy your remaining time i guess :/"

and, if you recruit him at redcliffe, there is the angle where his first major introduction to the party is... them all dying horribly of red lyrium in front of him. because of the actions of his own mentor, whom he respected a lot. while he tries to do advanced theoretical fade physics calculations in his head. i can only imagine he goes "well! we don't have time to unpack all that. where's the nearest bar" after coming back to the normal world, but jeez. he is so bizarre and i love that.

The best thing about Jarro is how it shows that if someone calls Bruce "dad"/"father"/any parent related terms, he accepts his new role immediately. No debate, the alien calls him "dad" so he is his dad. Random kid calls him "dad", he brings him home. That's his, now.

Jokingly calling Batman "dad" or "mom"? Jokes on you, you're his child now.

And we don't use that enough in this fandom.

I happen to have the headcanon that Quark is actually a really good singer, but he just doesn't do it out in the open a lot. Like Rom knows about because they grew up together and heard him all the time, Ishka once told Quark that he could "earn a living worth of latinum" by actually pursuing it as a career, Nog knows cause Quark used to sing him lullaby's when he was younger, and Jadzia probably also knows about it because she caught Quark humming and singing to himself in the bar's storeroom one day.

Anyway, all this say that when Odo walks into Quarks on an extremely crowded and lively night to find a drunk Jadzia goading various members of the crew into karaoke he stays and sits down to watch only to be finds himself complete dumbstruck when an equally tipsy Quark starts singing a slow love song in an absolutely enchanting voice. Halfway through the song they lock eyes across the room right as a particularly lovey-dovey lyric comes up. Odo doesn't dare look away from the magnetic pull of Quark's hooded eyes and enlarged pupils looking straight at him. As the soft music swells all around them the room is suddenly empty, nobody but them between these walls and the vast expanse of space and stars. Odo starts to feel himself melt and finds that it's getting harder and harder to maintain his form the longer he watches Quark and the blush filling his cheeks and his tongue dash out to wet his lips and-

The moment is over as quick as it started.

The song ends, everyone claps and cheers, the night eventually ends and compliments are thrown left and right at Quark's singing abilities.

Meanwhile Odo's trying to figure out a way to simultaneously tell Quark he's never appeared more beautiful while still somehow insulting and degrading him without actually letting him know that Odo cares.

I am now thinking about Essek as, essentially, Anna Ripley for the Ruby Vanguard, and it's genuinely horrific to imagine but it's not a real timeline so it's hilarious. It is so funny in concept. He's a glorified postdoc with no mandatory ethics trainings, no future, and nothing to lose. Also he just got handed the power of a thousand suns with absolutely no oversight and a mandate to "do your worst".

This has such extreme "horse loose in a hospital" energy. No one knows what Essek will do next, least of all Essek! He's never been in control of the power of a thousand suns before! He's as confused as you are!
