AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP: ROLE OF POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY IN LEADERSHIP - CHAPTER 01
Tumblr media
Authenticity has been explored throughout history, from Greek philosophers to the work of Shakespeare (“To thy own self be true.” –Polonius, Hamlet). Authentic leadership has been explored sporadically as part of modern management science, but found its highest levels of acceptance since Bill George’s 2003 book, Authentic Leadership.
Authentic leaders put legitimacy, ethics and positive psychological capacities first. Authentic leadership emphasizes how a leader can gain legitimacy and build trust through developing honest relationship with followers. Authentic leadership is defined in the following way:
Tumblr media
This approach to leadership focuses on the ethical dimensions of the relationship between follower and leader and describes those behaviors that result in a trusting relationship. Authentic leaders have a positive outlook on life and are truthful and open in their interactions with others. They build trust with their subordinates and generate enthusiasm for project which enables effective individual and team performance.
Many researchers and practitioners have advocated for organizations to embrace the concept of authentic leadership because it can lead to stronger relationships and a commitment to the vision of the organization. The authentic leadership approach advocates for ethical standards rather than a focus on profit.
Components of Authentic leadership
The research on authentic leadership suggests that there are four major components, which are:-
Tumblr media
An authentic leader shows self-awareness through reflecting on their own strengths, weakness and values. An authentic leader truly knows themselves and values their gifts and recognizes their limitations. When authentic leaders demonstrate relational transparency, they openly share their own thoughts and beliefs yet do not overly display their emotions to followers; they maintain a good balance.
Moreover, authentic leaders are balanced in their approach because they solicit opinions from subordinates and welcome opposing viewpoints and consider the value of these viewpoints in a fair manner. Authentic leaders also display a strong moral code that they demonstrate in their relationships and decision-making; this ethical foundation resistant to external forces.
A)     Authentic leaders are characterized by a high level of self-awareness…->
Faking ethical constraints is a sign of inauthenticity and authentic leaders need to be both truthful and ethical. Moreover, it is difficult to be self-aware, transparent, and balanced in processing information without the moral maturity associated with a positive personal value system. Authentic leaders show self-awareness through ensuring that their internal values reflect their behaviors and this process of self-regulation enables authentic leaders to withstand external pressure and influence.
B)     Authentic leaders admit mistakes and share their successes…->
It is important to distinguish relational transparency from impression management. Authentic leaders do not engage in impression management strategies yet persist in aligning their core values with their intentions and behaviors within the firm. When a leader displays relational transparency they share both their strengths and weaknesses with others. They display authenticity through admitting when they make mistakes and sharing their successes with their subordinates.
C)      Authentic leadership is connected with sharing feelings and motives…->
In displaying relational transparency, authentic leaders share their feelings and motives. Authentic leaders are connected with their values and morals and share these values openly with others. When authentic leaders show relational transparency, they communicate openly and are real in their relationships with others.
Without sharing sensitive information, authentic leaders are open and honest in a genuine way and choose to share appropriate information. This aspect of authentic leadership demonstrates high self-awareness because authentic leaders understand what drives them to do well and allows them to build strong and authentic relationships with their followers.
D)     Authentic leaders have an internalized moral perspective…->
This internalized moral perspective results in ethical decision-making and behavior. Moreover, authentic leaders balance information before making a decision and they based these decisions on their core set of values.
Tumblr media
Authentic Leadership Programs
It also appears that organizations can implement authentic leadership programs to enable managers to become more authentic. The concept of authentic leadership is based on a mixture of individual differences and skills so is a multi-dimensional concept. These types of training and development programs can focus on allowing managers to become more self-aware so they are in tune with their values.
An Authentic Leadership Dossier describes the four key components of authentic leadership with a particular focus on development of self-awareness in order for managers to:
Tumblr media
The dossier also suggests that organizations can develop authentic leadership interventions that allow managers to become more self-aware.
Significance of Authentic Leadership
This type of genuine leadership style promotes open communication within a team and has wide-reaching benefits within a department. Employee morale is increased when team members feel that their concerns can be voiced and addressed. And productivity is increased when team members work together under a strong leader. Authentic leadership also promotes a healthy company culture and in effect creates a positive brand voice in the marketplace.
Characteristics Of Authentic Leaders
In order to be a successful leader and encourage increased employee performance, an authentic leader must possess several characteristics, including:
Tumblr media
Developing Authentic Leadership
An authentic leader must commit to ongoing development. The following are steps we can take to become a more authentic leader:

'drowned in love' was amazing!!💖 now i can't help but imagine what faces those lords would pull when they come knocking on harrenhal's doors after the war and find witch queen lady of the castle alys, elysa on her arm and not one but Two white haired kids there lmao. the maesters would for sure have a field day with that event in the historical records. also aemond jr #1 and #2 (we really do need actual names for them huh💀) getting to grow up with two loving mothers is sooo important to me (very gaemon palehair - essie - sylvenna core except we can pretend alys and co. were lucky enough to not meet a similar fate and lived happily ever after since there's no mention of them in the book past that incident). i'd like to think alys and elysa would try very hard to make aemond a part of the kids' life in some way; always telling stories about him, saying how important he was to them and that he would definitely love the little ones with all his heart if he were still there etc 🥹
Thank youuuuuu.
Love the idea that harwin’s genes beat the shit out of nyra’s Targaryen one but Aemond genes win out for his kids 😭😭. Never gonna catch him slipping even while having kids. Aemond is just so… girl dad to me so I see alys having their boy and Elysa having a girl.
Now I’m super interested in how their dynamic would be described in f&b. Knowing how weirdly alys gets painted (one minute they say she bathed in blood, the next she kept Aemond from killing a messenger). I’m sure it would be the same for Elysa. They’d probably say something misogynistic about her ~stealing~ Aemond.
The maesters and lords seeing Elysa and alys

Rhaenyra‘s sons‘ illegitamcy is actually such a fascinating topic to discuss. Because on one side, yes, she should be allowed to have children with the partner of her chosing. But on the other side, the way she handles the situation, she manages to upset almost every cultural norm surrounding this issue, further alienating potential allies.
According to the social and cultural norms of their world, Rhaenyra and her sons are being valued as lesser for the circumstances of their birth. This a result of westerosi male primogeniture, which has to police woman sexuality in order to ensure that wealth and power get passed through the male family line.
Bastards born from the affairs of male lords are tolerated because they do not endanger the system of power, while male bastards especially are still marginalised (as seen with Jon) the father isn‘t subjected to any form of social scorn.
On the flip side, a noblewoman fathering a bastard is a direct threat to the system of male primogeniture. A woman will always know her biological children by the simple fact that she gave birth to them.
Men, however, don’t have this certainty. To ensure that their heirs are their own biological offspring they need complete insurence that their wives are soley sexually active with them, hence the policing of female sexuality and the obsession with female virginity.
This tactic is obviously not foolproof. A clever wife might still manage to have a secret affair and pass off another man‘s child as her husband's. This anxiety and continued incertainty is reflected in the social censure woman receive for acting as sexual beings and the severe social and legal punishment a wife who has been judged as unfaithful can face.
What makes Rhaenyra‘s position unique, however, is the fact that she is Viserys‘ heir.
So if the crown is to pass down from Viserys to Rheanyra and through her to her own heirs, why does Jace‘s legitamacy even factor into all this? Some people in the fandom make that argument: If Rheanyra inherits in her own right, why does it matter who fathers her children?
The problem with this is that even the Lords can‘t declare their bastard heir without expressed permission from the king. So, firstly Rhaenyra would need to publicly aknowledge her sons as ilegitamte for Viserys to legitamise them.
Secondly, even if inheritance in the male linegage is important, marriages in Westeros are still utilised to forge political and economical ties. Any Lord, who wants to make their bastard heir instead of the children born by his legal wife, will at best destroy any goodwill given by her family or at worst start a generations long feud.
Rhaenyra‘s position isn't as simple as a mere reversal of the genders. She can't just take the role of the Lord, she is still a woman and society will continue to treat her as such. Laenor is still bringing his own inheritance of Driftmark to ther union, separate from any claims Rhaenyra holds.
While she is lucky enough not to lose the Velaryons as her allies, it does lead to tensions surrounding the succession of Driftmark.
Another argument then is, if Laenor and Corlys aknowledge Jace, Luce and Joffery as Velaryon their blood shouldn‘t matter.
However, that is also not how westerosi society works. Because to them, blood does matter. Laenor and Corlys can claim them as Velaryon as much as they want. But as Varys puts it: „Power resides where men believe it to reside“, and as long as the westerosi people believe that blood lines are vital to the right to rule, the boys‘ right to Driftmark will continue to be questioned. Family names and blood lines are super important (and not just socially, considering how many magic blood lines exist in this world).
And to me it seems pretty clear that Corlys is aware of this fact as well, because he never publicly anounces that their blood doesn‘t matter, in fact he claims them to be Velaryon as Laenor‘s sons.
And this is ultimately the issue at heart of all the vitrol thrown at Rhaenyra. The reason she faces so much push back isn’t just because she had bastards but specifcally because she tries to pass them off as legitemate. With this she triggers the deeply ingrained social anxiety about women duping their husband and disrupting the blood line with their own kuckucks child.
It doesn‘t truely matter that her position is slightly different, because for one Westeros is deeply misogynistic. Even as a female heir she is still subject to the misogynistic standards put on women, because no matter her personal circumstances, their society is still built to cater to male power.
But even more damming is the fact that she ends up proving all these fears true, because she does take Driftmark away from a true Velaryon heir and gives it to Luce.
I think it is really fascinating (in a very concerning way), how some fans are so ready to take these societal rules as hard facts. Instead of thinking how they might reflect on inherently flawed systems of power.
As viewers we should be capable to recognize that these cultural norms are wrong. Jace, Luce and Joffery might be bastards but this doesn't devalue them as human beings. Nor does it impact their capabilites as future rulers. Nor does Rhaenyra‘s gender impact her‘s. There is nothing that make a trueborn man more worthy of ruling than a bastard or a woman.
But important to remember is also that Rhaenyra isn‘t going to make a better ruler soley on the virtue of being the firstborn or chosen by Viserys. Nor are her sons going to make better heirs because they are her children.

Okie Dokie this is motivation for @raybyanothername to finish Ch 3 of their story Fear in his Eyes! Go read it its amazing.
So the whole thing happens with Rhaenyra and Laenors wedding, Crispin going insane, green dress, Jace is born. When he is born with brown hair and brown eyes, Alicent immediately eyes Harwin Strong and makes her mind up on the childs origins. Time passes on and Luce is born, and she comes to the same conclusion. That is, until she overhears a rather drunk Rhaenyra cursing her mothers Arryn genes and Laenors Baratheon genes to Laenor, Harwin and Qarl. Ranting continues, Rhaenyra makes reference to their attempts at conceiving (A turkey baster is mentioned, which Alicent finds slightly funny). Then she hears Rhaenyra talking about how actually they look kinda like if she and Alicent had kids and drunkenly rambling about how she misses her and going on and on about how pretty she is until the others decide its probably time for her to go to bed. (You can blame @raybyanothername for the ‘Their actually Laenors kids but the Arryn genes are causing problems” HC)
Alicent is in shock, but after thinking about it all night she decides to go talk to Rhaenyra. They yell, they scream, they cry, they destroy a couple of things but it ends in them making up. Alicent confesses about the whole “She will kill your children thing” that Ottos been pushing and how Rhaenyra lying to her made her lose her trust. Rhaenyra is horrified, explains what actually happened that night and while it’s tentative, they start to be friends again. The entire Keep is happy, because their fighting was making things difficult. The kids are a little confused but happy because it means they can play together without their mothers getting upset.
Rhaenyra starts helping Alicent out with parenting because she notices just how stressed this woman is about her kids, and eventually she drags Laenor, Harwin and Qarl into keeping an eye on these kids. It’s a big job. They have 5 people plus an army of nurses and guards to help. They still lose a kid at least once a week. When Rhaenyra realises that Helaena would probably benefit from some female companionship (this may be a bit of an excuse), she calls Laena and Daemon back with their daughters. Daemon immediately decides that he is going to make these kids extremely Targaryen so they are always connected to their heritage. Plus it makes Otto Hightower go an interesting shade of red whenever he visits and sees his grandkids in red and black speaking their mother tongue. Laena is also teaching these kids how to get into good mischief, not stuff that puts them in danger.
Meanwhile, Alicent and Rhaenyra have really progressed in their friendship and it’s starting to turn into something more. By this point, Laena, Alicent, Rhaenyra, Daemon, Harwin, Laenor and Qarl have grown really close. Essentially the Queen is having an affair with her husbands Daughter, Brother, Sister in law and Commander of the City watch while living in his castle. He is completely oblivious to it. His Hand is not and is steadfastly enjoying it.
Harwin and Qarl are constantly having to pull their insane significant others away from picking a fight with a lord who bad mouthed Rhaenyra and her kids legitamacy, or who insulted Daemon, or made snide comments about Alicent spreading her legs for power, ect. It’s a full time job, on top of wrangling the kids and then their actual full time jobs. They are so tired.
Otto Hightower chokes to death while at a dinner with his brother in Oldtown. Rhaenyra in crowned Queen and they all end up on her Small Council. Most of them despise politics. She does not care.

Arya and Nature: day 1
A few years ago I read a wonderful meta on how Arya represents the wilderness which contrasts quite distinctly with her sister's more constricting imagery of the court life.
Indeed ever since AGoT we have seen Arya's affinity towards the natural world. From gathering flowers for her father to exploring the landscape with her friend Mycah, Arya certainly thrives in a world that's untouched by artifice. And yet as luck would have it, it is artifice that she must look for to thrive in her future.
Let me explain what I mean;
When I think about 'Nature' in terms of Arya's storyline, I tend to go beyond the representation of the elemental. Because 'nature' in Arya's storyline is not limited to the wolf/water/moon/flower/the oak tree imagery.
It is present in the way she treats those around her. For Arya the societal constructs of class doesn't matter, it is to her an almost unnatural concept. Afterall it is unfathomable to a nine year old as to why one's station in life should inhibit one from behaving naturally with one's friend?
And yet this natural sensibility suffers a shock when Joffrey cruelly decides to interfere in a harmless play on the banks of Trident. The resulting tragedy becomes a commentary on the Westerosi society's perverse distortion of the natural to enforce a hierarchy that punishes the innocent ( both Mycah and Lady).
Arya's storyline can then be seen as a repeated refrain of protest against this very cruel treatment of the overlords upon those who are the closest to nature: the peasants, the farmers, the small folks. It is against the practice in which human bonds are judged not on their natural merits but on account of power, class, legitamacy of birth and control.
Also ironically there is a general consensus in this fandom that since Arya is so loud in her proclaimation of injustice of the current world order, her ending should be in the wilderness of the forest or among the wild waves of an ocean. And yet they forget that the strongest influence of nature found in Arya's storyline is in the natural love of the human bonds- Of family, of friends, of a child named weasel who clung to her amidst chaos, of the inn keeper's daughter who deserved justice, of the prostitutes of Braavos and countless others.
And it is for them that Arya would come back. Come back and stay in this world of artifice and look through it to arrive at the natural so that she may serve her people better. Afterall in AGoT we see Syrio teaching her to look, to really look beyond the 'glamour' and arrive at the actual and we know how Arya used to sit with her father in an attempt to know the people around her. So now that she is serving the Many Faced God, serving 'Death' (who is the natural equalizer of all beings) and learning to hone her perceptive abilities and intuitions, it can be deduced that she may, in time, learn to look through the various masks worn by ambitious politicians and arrive at the very basis of their nature. That Arya would be a part of this world of artifice but would thrive in being able to look into the wilderness of man.

I think I have a bit of a Romantic view of fandom, and so I lot of my thoughts are inherently biased by that point of view. Having said that, I want to say that I think we live in a "Period of Headcanons" right now, with the understanding that I'm using the phrase "period" relative to the time scale of the internet.
By that, I don't think there's necessarily been a major increase in the amount of headcanons available for consumption and viewing, but in prominence alongside media. I believe it's partially the result of more complex lore becoming increasingly a more common facet of mainstream media. I think there's probably a correlation between having more content and fans expanding more, or at least having a desire to expand and fill in the gaps left behind. From that, a headcanon emerges.
Headcanon tends to be, generally, sorted into two types. There's a 'filling' headcanon, which is an idea that connects or assumes in an area otherwise untouched, and an 'overlaid' headcanon, which is placed over an established part of the canon to superficially correct something. As stated before, I think there's a correlation between media having lore and the amount of headcanons, but specifically, I believe there's an increase in the 'overlaid' type of headcanon. This is partly the result of continued expansion in lore, which results in 'filling' suddenly being overtaken by canonical information. If that headcanon persists, it automatically becomes 'overlaid' by definition.
However, because headcanon tends to be specific to groups within a larger fandom, 'overlaid' ideas tend to be viewed as intentionally contradictory by 'outsiders' who lack the context necessary to fully understand that information. Since it is seen as intentionally contradictory, those who disagree with them or those who prefer another interpretation often think of that contradiction as aggressive rejection. Of course, not every 'overlaid' headcanon is the result of media outgrowing ideas. Sometimes those ideas are simply preferential, but that doesn't tend to make them viewed any better than the previous subcategory. In fact, that intentional contradiction tends to make them be viewed with even more hostility.
Going back to the idea that we live in a "Period of Headcanon" and connecting back to the ideas of 'overlaid' ideas on expanding lore and the resulting hostility, I think there's a 'current' of discourse that carries ideas further and spreads headcanons both to those who accept them and those who reject them, in turn spreading them further through discussion. That current makes more headcanons visible, making it seem like there is a higher density of them, with a generally larger online population and interacting that in previous years assuring that. More importantly, this 'current' which spreads headcanon through discourse creates a larger group consensus of the legitamacy, or illegitamacy, of these ideas. That increased legitamacy in the eyes of the larger fandom population places some headcanons on the same level as media-canon. Simply put, when enough people support a headcanon, it becomes as legitimate as official canon.
For these reasons, I believe that within the larger "Era of Fandom" we are in, we currently live in a "Period of Headcanon." This unofficial period is characterized by the prominence of fan-made ideas alongside media canon in online fandom, as well as the discourse that spreads these ideas to a larger population.

Is it me or are we getting a new type of spam bot?
General Notes:
Random photo for a profile picture, but has a default blog header image
Blog description filled with different types of links for various things: people's online portfolio/resumes/blogs, recipies, houses?
The links in these blog descriptions are formated like so: Link Name | Link Name | Link Name | Link Name | Link Name
Blog contents are filled with posts created by the bot with zero notes, containing a photo and a description to go along with it
The post's descriptions are the usual word salad that you see for online listicles (list articles made to drive site traffic) and/or products sold online (word salad meant to use as much keywords as possible to be picked up by a search algorithm)
Photos in it's posts ranges from average to horribly cropped (average in the sense that someone took the photo with their phone camera instead of in a photo studio)
Tumblr media
^ example of the SEO word salad
(also some of the blogs kinda share some posts in common? like the muffins, the oddly-cropped sink repair thing, and the bread?)
Overall, kinda lame, if a definite improvement in looking a little more "human" than the other bots I've seen on tumblr.
If I have to hazard a guess on what they're trying to do, I think that they're trying to do that thing where having another website reference and link to your stuff (in this case, a newly-made tumblr blog) for serch engine optimization stuff (getting more clicks / site legitamacy?) ((im sure someone with more knowlege could definitely chip in with what they know later on))

On March 2nd1316, Robert II was born at Paisley Abbey.
Robert was a grandson of Robert the Bruce - his mother being the king’s daughter, Marjorie; his father was Walter the 6th High Steward of Scotland and, having taken this for a surname, Robert was the first of the line of Stewart or Stewart kings He was named John, but changed his name as he deemed the name unlucky, the last monarch of that name being John Balliol.
When only two years old, Parliament chose him as Bruce’s successor, but the birth of a son to Bruce in 1324 changed the position. This son, David II, became king in 1329, and from then until 1371 Robert was one of the chief men of his kingdom. Several times he was made regent (when David was in France and when he was imprisoned by the English from 1346-57).  Robert fought at the Battle of Halidon in 1333 and was a leader at the battle of Neville’s Cross when David was captured. He married Elizabeth Mure of Rowallan. They had a number of children (including King Robert III ) but their legitamacy was questioned by some because Robert and Elizabeth were too close blood relations. A Papal dispensation on this was obtained in 1347, but this did not convince everyone. Robert fathered 21 children in total, including four children from a second marriage to Euphemia Ross. Later Robert rebelled against David and was imprisoned. The dissension was healed, and when David died childless in 1371, Robert, then 54, succeeded him.
He reigned for 19 years, most of which were troubled by wars in which he could take little part. Most of the time, he allowed his eldest son, the Earl of Carrick, later Robert III, to act in his stead. When the king became infirm due to a riding accident in 1388, the Earl of Fife took over the reins of power.
King Robert II died April 13th, 1390, in Dundonald Castle and was succeeded by his son, Robert III.

Interesting thing with Jaws. I did not think about legitamacy and people disrespecting horror. What do you think makes horror movies horror though? I was talking with some people in real life about this, did I thought maybe a lack of control over the situation and being against a more powerful opponent or situation made it horror. But you know more about horror movies so I am curious about your opinion.
Also, how do you distinguish between horror and action movie with a monster? Like, my friend says Alien is horror, but not Predator, and I thought they were both just fighting monsters movies.
Apologies for going off ask game, Jaws thing just reminded me of this stuff. No problem if you would rather not answer.
This is a great question! I think what makes horror a horror is mainly the intention and also what's being focused on. Like with the example of monster movies: action movies tend to be more on the fun side. They focus on the stunts and the fighting, and it's mainly meant to be enjoyable to watch. The main characters fighting the monster are more badass and confident that they can kill it/escape the situation. They're confident that they'll win. The intended emotion from the audience is to enjoy the spectacle of the big fight. While a horror movie will try to make the audience scared. It will focus on gruesome deaths and the feeling of hopelessness as more and more people are killed. It might hide the monster more, and focus on the character fighting it as they try to escape and not to die. The scenes are darker and slower. The audience is meant to wait in suspense, just like the character. Scared and worried about where the monster is and who will be next.
There are definitely movies that have both and personally I think Predator has some horror elements as well. But yeah, I think the main difference is how it's presented. Because you can present the same story in a bunch of different ways. Like there are horror movies that have ghosts. There are also comedies that have ghosts. And dramas. But the way they're presented in each genre is different.
It's hard to say exactly what makes a horror movie a horror movie. There's plenty of horror movies that don't follow the typical genre tropes. But I do think the feeling of helplessness is a pretty key factor that most horror movies have. The characters have to be terrified and, so, the audience might be terrified with them. Even in horror comedies or movies where no one dies, there's a helplessness there. There's a feeling that something bad will happen. The characters aren't sure if it will be better, if they will get through it. So the audience is meant to feel the same for them.

Greg actually confirmed that the moment we see that big evil version of Blue Beetle is Jaime's imagination!!! it's based off things Bart says but we the audience don't hear, so there's DEFINITELY legitimacy to it, but it's not a flashback! i assume Jaime hears that there was an evil Blue Beetle and his only reference for a scary Beetle so far is Black Beetle, who's inhumanly huge with a deep voice, so that's how he imagines an evil version of himself. it's exaggerated on purpose!!
ah right i remember that ask! i had understood it as the ask referring to the moment when Jaime was fighting Black Beetle and got like a flash of “evil Blue Beetle” which was his imagination, not the “flashback” scene of when Bart was recounting his timeline to Jaime when he rescued him and was telling the truth. But because the beetles both looked the same people were confused as to how Jaime would’ve known. And that the flash of jaimes imagination referenced Black beetle which just so happened to match Barts version.
But like u said, regardless, there’s somewhat legitamacy to it as well as him being some kind of black beetle 2.0 amalgamation, so who knows, all we do know is that future BB was definitely scary !

Justice Society of America (2022) #1 Review: It Just Sucks
Tumblr media
Being that I was anticipating for this title happily despite some of my concerns, I am disappointed to say that honestly, this first issue wasn't really good at all. My belief about first issues is that it SHOULD attract an audience enough to want to be interested in the book and I'm not even sure If the first issue could do that given what happens.
Story recap
So the story here is that years into the future, the daughter of Bruce Wayne/Batman, Helena Wayna aka the Huntress, is a member of the JSA. Due to the JSA's legacies not being fulfilled properly as they retire or whatever, Helena convinces Doctor Fate (one of the two only people on the team with legitamacy in terms of legacies alongside Powergirl) to recruit a whole new team, in which consists of former super-villains, some who are related to previous enemies of the JSA.
Doctor Fate is missing and the team tries to find clues to his whereabouts, with some speculating he was killed by one of the new team members. Doctor Fate's body turns up mummified days later and the team is then ambused by time travelling villain, Per Degaton, who uses his time manipulation powers to kill them all save Helena, who is saved by a aged Catwoman and thrusts her into the past to find Doctor Fate of the 1940s.
Opinions
Helena Wayne's focus
Tumblr media
One of my earliest concerns about this series was the fact that Helena Wayne was going to be a focus in the series. I recall after saying that, I was reminded that her character has, in fact, served as a JSA character, Infinity Inc. member, etc. That's all find and dandy but again, a character related to Batman gets prime focus in a series over the other Justice Society of America.
It's nice that Helena Wayne finally gets to exist but it comes at the cost of icing other characters needlessly. It also continues this trending idea that Batman-related characters are the highest billed characters in these teams (Titans with Robin/Nightwing, Justice League with Batman, The Outlaws with Red Hood, the Birds of Prey with Barbara Gordon/Harley Quinn). It's time for DC to give other character some REAL love.
Doctor Fate is disrespected
Tumblr media
Which gets to my second point: Despite the fact that Helena within the story actually asked Doctor Fate's permission to recruit more team members, implying that HE is the actual leader, you don't see that because he spends the issue being DEAD before you even get another appearance Older Khalid!Doctor Fate. And he is killed by Per Degatron with Falcone thugs doing SOMETHING and then him getting mummified and stuffed into a sarcophagus, found days later because someone unearthed him in a museum and caught an illness that is assocaite with the "Curse of the Pharaohs" myth.
So incase it didn't dawn upon you, DC has Per Degaton, a time-travelling, kill off the ONLY canonical Egyptian Doctor Fate by mummifying him and stuffing him in a sarcophagus in the first issue of a JSA book.
And you know, I find it high-key ironic that even when Khalid is the current Doctor Fate, they're still finding ways to involve Kent Nelson. The previous JSA books didn't tweak their nose nor shy away from telling you the current Doctor Fate (Hector Hall, Kent V. Nelson) is NOT Kent Nelson and they're fine. Khalid is equally capable of fixing the plot like Kent Nelson and yet, Catwoman sends Helena back in time to find KENT NELSON's DOCTOR FATE.
This is an issue that can get fixed down the line but Khalid isn't white so I don't know If it will.
Power Girl is also dispresected.

Not only is Doctor Fate disrespected but I feel Power Girl's character is too. Her character was once Chairwoman of the JSA. I don't like the fact that like Khalid, she is taking a back seat to letting Helena run the reigns, especially when she has some STRONG disagreements and frankly, she has more legitamancy. If not Doctor Fate, why isn't Power Girl leading this JSA? How is it exactly Helena Wayne was able to convince Doctor Fate of a new interim team?
Maybe these answers MAY get answered some time later but I definitely can say I don't like how it is written that the only thing Power Girl did was "not forgive Helena" for it. This version has been on the team for DECADES. This is not the same Power Girl/Helena Wayne from World's Finest back during the New 52 days. Why didn't she just take command instead?
And then she is killed unceremoniously by Kryptonite poisoning even though Kryptonite from other universes can't affect her but OH WELL. We gotta make Per Degaton look REALLY scary for this one-off storyline.
The series' setup is bland
Tumblr media
Overall, this series' first issue is bland and ridiculous. You introduce a whole new incarnation and then kill them off in the same issue in gruesome ways just to show off your villain (ONCE AGAIN), who hasn't been impressive since his creation Ain't nobody care about some Per Degaton wanting to be Extant.
The series twists it's neck once more to find a way to tell a story that claims is about "legacy" characters but is beginning to look like it's only interested in the same old fucks in the JSA, which begs the question of why not just having the series set in the 1940s-1970s and just going ham on it instead.
This is another story where "legacy characters" only amount to not being up to par and stuggling eternally just to exist. You don't see them fuck shit up; you watch shit fuck them up. How many stories are we having about legacies that actually come FULL CIRCLE and be real badasses? It's 2022 and you'll be hard pressed because they INSIST on not actually moving forward or taking a few steps forward before making giant leaps back.
This first issue did not take the oppurtunity to introduce the prospect of a REAL, new, and interesting team lineup, which also missed the oppurutunity for both new and updated versions of characters. Instead, the first issue beleives a time travelling murder mystery of the JSA with Helena Wayne on the case is more interesting. That may be a contending fact but it makes me think why isn't it called Huntress and the Justice Society instead.
Overall, given that the JSA was spotlighted in the Black Adam movie and it is received fairly well, I find it severely underwhelming DC's first inclination to using the team's mythos is starting off like this. Not to mention how they treat worthwhile characters, ranging from ridiculous to borderline ignorant at the very least.

THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES- 2007 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media
New York Police officers find hundreds of video tapes documenting the work of a serial killer who has killed and tortured dozens of victims and shows no sign of slowing down...
Seriously scary stuff. The fake documentary style added a chilling legitamacy to it and the grainy tapes themselves send shivers up your spine.
Very tense and creepy movie.
Directed by John Erick Dowdle.

The U.S is interfering in my home country and I refuse to quietly sit back and let this happen
The Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan was voted out due to threats from the U.S. I am urging you all to read and share this as our voices are being silenced in most media.
This is an extremely bold claim and one i dont want to believe but there is enough of a motive and evidence to show this took place. I would like to preface this with the fact that i have done alot of research into the past, the present and the current situation as best as i could, i cant say its completely unbiased as its shaped by me living in pakistan while the past regimes were active and with all of my extended family still living there and experiencing all this first hand but that is precisely why im talking about this.
Imran Khan has been extremely important for our country and protests have burst out globally in response to his undemocratic take down, why? well heres some highlights of his reign as prime minister:
Tumblr media
He INTRODUCED HEALTHCARE
he initated a program that paid people to plant trees and managed to have MORE THAN A BILLION TREES PLANTED
especially promoting planting fruit trees whenever and wherever to the general public (which is an extremely smart move as if they grow to start giving fruit thatll be a free source of food tho the only source of this information is my memories of a speech he had during a summer a few years ago and my mom also being interested in planting because of this)
ONE OF THE BEST PANDEMIC RESPONSES ON EARTH i am not joking despite our country being the 5th most populated country on earth:
i am talking lockdowns for short periods of time when necessary, giving out money and rations during these lockdowns so already doing more than the US did with a tiny fraction of the budget
Focused on minorites more than any PM in recent history before him, restoring and allowing sikhs and hindus to finally visit their holy places that exist in Pakistan after previous governements had them shut down
PUSHED FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY declining coal plants and starting a couple of dam projects
Focused on education!!! education for the poor and the ones the rich were extremely different (i would know, i lived both) and he made a system to fix that!! all the way up to high school!!!
i couldnt find sources for this one but there were news reports and physical videos showcasing free to use housing for people visiting out of town that couldnt pay for a hotel like at railways, its hard to fake actual buildings that didnt exist so im bringing this up
Fought back against the massive amounts of islamophobia and heading talks at UN centered around the extremism against muslims, some reporters say he was the first and perhaps only muslim prime minsiter or political person to do so but i have no source for that so take that part with a grain of salt
And this is just a highlight reel of the stuff he managed to accomplish, he had even been discussing programs to pay the unemployed which would be amazing, my own parents thought it was a bad idea but it shows how much he puts our people before anything else!!! He is nowhere near perfect but he tries and has done alot of good and that is so much more than we can say about our previous governments!
Now he has been thrown out of our government, how? The parties asked to commence a no-confidence vote against him in parliament. But amongst themselves, not the population. That already feels extremely undemocratic as thats based on what the parliament wants and going against what the people want but it gets worse as before it could take place he revealed a letter sent to the government by the U.S essentially saying that if he is not kicked out through a no-confidence motion and if Pakistan doesnt cut ties with others, he and Pakistan will suffer. THEY SENT A THREAT LETTER. Due to laws he cannot share the letter itself but some agencies confirmed its legitamacy. And while the U.S denied this the one delivering the letter dodged any questions about that meeting thus cementing some legitamicy to this claim. A day after the meeting where the letter was delivered, the opposing parties applied for a no-confidence motion to take place!! He asked for the motion to be shut down as its coming from outside forces aka the U.S, and the parliament was ok with it but then those same parties took it to court (which according to some sources is technically not how the government runs in Pakistan, the court does not weigh in on matters of the parliament usually but i cannot verify this) and they set up shop in the middle of the night out of nowhere to have the motion played out and so he was kicked out.
In his place came the brother of a previous prime minister, a convicted criminal who is supposed to be in jail who is hiding out in london after lying about being sick and being allowed to travel out of country to recover. He was only allowed a few months and it has been years, even his passport has expired oh but his brothers first task was to get him a diplomatic passport because of course the brother of a criminal is supporting a criminal.
So far they have increased the massive amounts of inflation that Imran had been holding back, despite their entire media campaigns against him being that he ‘mismanaged finances and has increased expenses’ aka being a complete hypocrit and have silenced people against them by robbing and/or arresting them and also setting up blockades and creating entire media blackouts so as few people as possible can learn of the protests. And yet these protests have still managed to be some of the largest in our history.
I am not the kind to speak up online, instead choosing to share views from people with closer or better perspectives. However, due to the near complete silence i’ve seen in most media except for when I’m actively seeking it out, i have no choice but to talk about this.
This is why im making this! I have not seen media talking about this beyond Imran Khan being thrown out and the allegations but it is necessary!! Our demands are simple, either take the allegations seriously or some international forum to weigh in or do a re-election and let the people decide. If anyone has any contradicting information or things to add on feel free to respond though i ask you to have sources as well and I will do my utmost best to give you an informed response through research and with sources. There are no support channels that im aware of that you can donate to, all i ask is that you all spread awareness of what is going on in my country, share this, respost this, share this however you please just send the message across the internet and make everyone aware of what is occuring. We refuse to be slaves to the US, we refuse to be puppets thrown about as they choose!!

You can make your own judgements on the legitamacy of this test, but in my Sociology of Deviance class today, we briefly touched on the Hare Psychopathy Test, a scoring system with a maximum of 40, rated 0, 1, or 2 for each of the criteria to determine if someone's a psychopath...
So naturally I plugged Emily into it:
Tumblr media
She scored a 26/40 and typically one must score a 30 to be "officially/clinically" regarded as a psychopath... but for more context:
-Ted Bundy scored a 39
-Jeffrey Dahmer scored a 23
-John Wayne Gacy scored a 27
I'm getting my degree in this type of shit, so I can apply my knowledge however I choose, thanks much.
