replying to lovely comments and physically restraining myself from descending fully into salt about canon. Ah yes that specific thing you commented on as being impactful? Yes there IS a reason I did that specific thing because when I see something clearly set up as a vessel of a character’s self worth issues and flaws, and see them set up clearly for a character arc to recover and grow from those, I actually like to, you know, follow through on that, instead of yanking away all that character arc setup like Lucy with the football, and leaving the readers falling back into a mud puddle ie deliberately shoving the character as far backwards as you can and into a shoehorned romance

❝ If you fail, all yer world will suffer for it. Best make sure you don't. ❞
SIX OF CROWS STARTERS : Accepting!
@catncore
❝ Well, aren't you chipper in the mornings... ❞ The dry response leaves her lips in a mutter without a trace of sarcasm. She is too tired to reflect on his words. He didn't have to tell her them. She already knew them as well as she knew the strain in her bones. This heaviness in her body is why she came to the WildKat on the more difficult mornings because his creations brought warmth back to her.
What prompted these ominous words as soon as she came inside?
Ah, he must have caught wind of her little multiplying act...
Damn those stupid, stupid, stupid birds of hers. They must be willing to talk to anyone that fed them some really good food. It begged the question if he asked them or if they simply spilled the words out with such eagerness. They liked to announce bad news to everyone, didn't they? It was how they once operated in her glittering, crumbling labyrinth. They announced her execution, after all.
❝ Can't you tell me good morning? ❞ Homura asked, but she cannot deny the truth in his words. Did he really think she didn't know any of this? She already knew she could not fail. She has seen the way the world, that cozy world, began to rapidly unravel itself when she realized the witch culprit turned out to be herself. She brought total ruin to the dream merely by figuring out the burning mystery.
In a sense, she already failed one world already by unmasking the witch.
How long would they could stay in that dream world if she didn't start try to figure out why everything felt so wrong?
Kyubey and all of his kind had her right where they wanted her. The thought of watching the inside of her secured soul gem for such a long time sounded like it could only be beneficial to them. It wasn't like anyone would look for Homura since they successfully kept her isolated and contained, but her lonely existence only made it all the more easier for them. They must be willing to monitor this experiment for as long as they liked, especially since the Isolation Field worked so flawlessly. Staying trapped in her own labyrinth for as long as she kept dreaming didn't sound so bad, but pondering on the alternative possibilities left her a bit somber. Either way, Homura can still remember the fall of her labyrinth.
She can still taste the chaos on her lips, burnt to the crisp.
Homura didn't say anything about his warning since she preferred the taste of the morning brew, desperate for something to energize her from another sleepless night. It's too early in the morning for her to muster up a proper response, so she only looks down to avoid his unwavering gaze. She only made a silent promise that she will work herself even harder now. Did she want to hear these words from someone else's lips? Not really, but she needed this warning. She has been slacking off in some department, but she isn't sure which area exactly.
She needed to make sure that she would work harder.
She couldn't fail all over again.
Not when the Incubators were watching for her to fall.
