WHAT ARE THEIR BEIGE FLAGS? (HCS)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: eren, armin, jean, connie, reiner, bertholdt, levi, erwin, hange, mikasa, sasha, pieck, and annie x fem!reader (separate) summary: things they do that are unusual within your relationship ! content: fluff, little bit of swearing, established relationships (marriage implied for a few), nothing too crazy today just wholesome :3 not proofread! this is all just a silly little thing I thought up, it's not meant to be taken seriously wc: 1.3k
Tumblr media
🡆 𝐄. 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐑
Eren's beige flag is that when he controls the music in the car he skips at least twenty songs on his playlist before he settles on a song, then one minute into the song he'll skip again.
"Do you want me to play something, 'ren?" You're trying not to laugh at him. He's got a cute little pout on his face.
"Yes please.. I don't wanna crash cuz I can't pick a song."
🡆 𝐀. 𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓
His beige flag is that whenever he sees a cute stuffed animal he just HAS to buy it. The thing is- he doesn't have enough space for another one. Whenever someone comes over and opens the wrong door a mountain of stuffed animals fall out of the closet.
"Um. [name], are these yours?" Mikasa asks while glancing at the stuffed animals.
"No, those are Armin's." You don't even look up from your phone, which lets Mikasa know this has been going on for some time.
🡆 𝐉. 𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐈𝐍
Jean's beige flag is that he believes microwave food is "making dinner." He'll be like,
"babe I cooked us dinner!! :D"
and on your way to the table you see two microwave spaghetti boxes in the garbage. You don't have the heart to tell him that's not cooking.
"Wow baby, that looks delicious!"
🡆 𝐂. 𝐒𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑
His beige flag is that he removes the little "crust" part of a pop tart and only eats the part with the icing on it. It's just dry and bland so why eat it? (I do this 😝)
"Hey do any of you want the rest of my pop tart?" You anticipate how weirded out his friends will be when they see what part of the pop tart he's talking about.
"Yeah, let me get the rest." Jean says not paying too much attention. Connie hands him a napkin with the crumbling end pieces.
"Dude what the hell... I thought you meant like a half or something!"
🡆 𝐑. 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐍
Reiner is too cute. His beige flag is that whenever someone good looking appears on tv or social media he covers his eyes. He doesn't want you to think those women will change his opinion of you and how you look.
"Reiner, baby, you're allowed to look at attractive people and think they look hot. I think people are hot all the time."
"I know but- wait what?"
"You're my number one man obviously but I can't deny when someone is good looking. You don't have to either, because I trust you." He huffs quietly, all this time he had been covering his eyes while you admire other men?
"Wait so you call them hot, but you wouldn't leave me for them, right?" Now's he starting to feel a little insecure.
"Baby, I wouldn't leave you if someone paid me a million dollars."
🡆 𝐁. 𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑
His beige flag is that he physically makes a "gulp" sound whenever he's scared or nervous.
"You're gonna do great on that speech today, babe. I believe in you!" Usually your attempts to comfort Bertholdt work but you can tell it's getting to him when he goes,
"Gulp."
"You did it again."
"It's a force of habit, my love." He says scrubbing his face whilst you giggle at him.
🡆 𝐋. 𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍
His beige flag is that he's never embarrassed when someone walks in on him or he walks in on someone else. It's his body so why should he care? He thinks people make a big deal out of that for no reason.
When you're in the shower he'll open the door to come use the bathroom or do something else.
"Levi! You scared me." He watches you in the mirror out of the corner of his eye. He has to stop himself from rolling them when you try to cover up your body with your arms.
"Why are you so on edge? I've seen you naked plenty of times, darling."
🡆 𝐄. 𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐇
His beige flag is he says old outdated phrases on purpose. You're hanging out with him in the living room and he's on the phone with Levi.
You don't care too much about what your husband is saying until he says, "Yeah don't worry about it, Levi. I'll be down there in a jiffy."
"Really, Honey? Jiffy? 😭"
🡆 𝐙. 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄
Their beige flag is that they can't remember your family members' names to save their life. They've just got a lot going on so when you go to your family gatherings they're like,
"Oh- you're- uh... I know it, give me a second!" Hange closes their eyes to think for a second.
"You're Caroline!" Hange is so confident they're right.
Your little cousin looks at you, then back at your partner, "My name is Lexi..."
"I was close!" Hange says with a bold smile.
🡆 𝐌. 𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍
Ever since her old scarf started to tatter her beige flag has been knitting little abstract figures. She'll knit these goofy little monster guys and sew buttons on them for eyes. They're so cute so you don't mind. You have like five that she's made for you.
"Hey pretty girl, I got distracted and made another." Mikasa says with a little groan.
"It's okay, Mika. They're really cute!" She lets out a sigh of relief.
🡆 𝐒. 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐒
Her beige flag is that she unironically eats with a bib. She argues it's one of those "adult bibs" thinking that it makes it sound better. She just doesn't want to get her clothes dirty and when Sasha eats she eats, which explains how she would even get that messy.
"Hey babe can you get my bib before you sit down."
...
She never fails to catch you off guard. When you hand it to her she gives you a kiss on the check, "You're the best girlfriend I could have ever asked for. Thank you for dinner."
"Of course, sweet girl."
🡆 𝐏. 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑
I love my girl Pieck but I know for a fact her beige flag is that she puts on chapstick just to lick it off.
"Damn my lips are really dry, you got any chapstick on you, baby?" The two of you are going out for dinner so of course she wants to look her best.
"Are you gonna eat it, like always?"
She rolls her eyes, "I do not eat it."
Now it's your turn to roll your eyes, but since you love your girlfriend you give her your strawberry chapstick which she uses a generous amount of.
Not even two minutes later you spot her licking her lips.
"YOU DO EAT IT, LIAR!!!!"
🡆 𝐀. 𝐋𝐄𝐎𝐍𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐓
Annie's beige flag is that she'll repurpose absolutely anything. Nothing you want to throw away actually makes it to the trash can when she's around.
While you were folding up your clothes you found one of your old socks with a hole in it, so you believe it's that sock's time to go.
When you get up to throw it away you hear your girlfriend call out, "Don't throw that away. I can make it into a toy for Churro."
Churro is your crazy orange cat the two of you took in.
"Annie, Churro has like a million toys. I think he'll be okay without my sock."
"Come on, don't throw it away. I saw this video, and now I wanna try to make the cool cat toy!" You can't deny Annie when she's this cute so you give in. (she always says she's not cute but you beg to differ)
"Fine, here." You throw the sock to her and she makes a perfect catch.

Levi falling in love with you
notes: in my works i would try to be as accurate as possible with the characters. so... this is how i think levi would fall in love with you, what he admires about you and how he deals with his feelings.
content: levi x reader | f!reader | canon | attack on titan ff | levi being confused about his feelings
you can request something if you want! (aot, jjk)

levi would absolutely have no idea that he loves you in that way if not hange hadn't told him. initially, he denied. love? him? never.
but after some thinking and a cup of tea later, he was sure hange was right - he fell in love with you. levi could still recall the conversation he had with his colleague about how he behaves around you. hange pointed it out that he seemed softer, more understanding and just... not cold and stiff. he goes easy on you, doesn't yell at you and how his eyes get sparklier than usual when looking at you. not to forget that he lets you hug him and call him by his name, not 'Captain'.
he thought that you were a great friend. you understood him, made him feel better after every failed mission and he could feel relaxed around you. but now looking back, he believes that unintentionally he forgot some things about you.
how your voice makes his heart beat faster, how looking into your eyes makes him softer, how your scent relaxes him every time you hug him.
so yes, he is in love with you.
but he doesn't do anything about it. not because he is shy, not because he doesn't know how to approach the situation, but because he doesn't want to be selfish. his life was fucked up, his world revolved around a continuous war and he could't bare the thought that you would suffer if he would not come back home.
his feelings didn't belong in the world he was from and he knew that you deserved someone way better, someone who could provide you with happiness and peace. he couldn't do that ever.
in his eyes, he was broken and you were perfect. and even though opposites attract they could never be together in his opinion. so he gives you space and protects you, never saying something. even though hange would try to force him to confess, he never will.
he didn't deserve you, so that's why you didn't deserve his feelings.

kissing your cheek
headcanon, all characters x gn ! reader, fluff
Tumblr media
lucifer
Lucifer has been watching you for a while. You've been working so hard lately, trying to help the Student Council out, keeping up with classes, and looking after everyone. Isn't it tiring? After you accidentally fall asleep in the living room, Lucifer approaches you quietly, covering you with his coat and softly placing a kiss on your cheek. Lucifer finds your sleeping face soothing. He could admire you forever.
mammon
Mammon can't stand you hanging around others so much at RAD. It's clear they're interested in you, but you keep insisting on giving them the time of the day. And by now, it should be clear to everyone that you're his and only his. Before going back to the House of Lamentation, Mammon shyly kisses your cheek. He loves you dearly and wants you to pay more attention to him from now on.
leviathan
You're the best friend an otaku could have. Leviathan loves talking, playing video games, and watching anime with you. To be more specific, he loves spending time with you in general. Your presence brings him a sense of peace and acceptance, something that he would never say to your face. After finally clearing a pretty hard level, Levi excitedly kisses your cheek. He panics and goes completely red after noticing what he just did.
Tumblr media
satan
It was a beautiful day outside, and Satan invited you to go on a walk searching for cats with him. Satan loves talking to you throughout the way, regardless of the subject. Your voice is music to his ears, and Satan appreciates you lots. After petting and feeding the cats, the demon surprises you by kissing your cheek. The way you look at his feline friends is so cute to him.
asmodeus
When is Asmo not kissing you? Well, anyways... If you're studying, Asmodeus sneaks behind you and places a soft kiss on your cheek. If you're washing the dishes, Asmo puts his hands around your waist and gives you another peck. If you're scrolling down your cellphone for no reason, Asmodeus pushes you close to him and softly kisses your face. You're probably getting 50 kisses a day, Asmo can't get enough of you, and he has tons of different lipsticks to put to use.
beelzebub
Beel loves you so much, and sometimes he doesn't know how to put his feelings into words. When this happens, he tells you how much he and his brothers appreciate you and makes small loving gestures, such as holding your hand or asking for a hug. One day, after eating Spicy Rainbow Pizza, Beel feels its scent on you. He showers your face with little kisses, hoping to taste what's gone. But he keeps kissing you, since your skin feels very nice to him.
Tumblr media
belphegor
Belphie is always snuggling up to you. He finds you so comfortable to use as a pillow. Every time Belphegor wants to annoy or tease you, the lazy demon showers you with kisses. And when he wants you to keep laying around in bed with him, he holds you close, whispering sweet things into your ears while taking breaks to place gentle kisses on your eyelids and cheeks.
diavolo
Making you join the Student Council was one of the best things Diavolo has ever done. This way, he could spend a little more time with you. He loved hearing your opinions as a human, and how your voice sounded was enough to give him the motivation to finish his work. Once no one else is around, he excitedly kisses your cheek when you're expecting the least.
barbatos
Barbatos was used to tending the Hell's Garden by himself, but having you around to keep him some company made everything much better. It was nice seeing how you reacted to seeing different Devildom flowers for the first time. After all, your curiosity never failed to amuse him. He couldn't help but give you a small peck on the cheek.
Tumblr media
simeon
After spending the whole day helping Simeon look after Luke (and Solomon, grandpa is unhinged), Simeon goes to prepare some tea while you rest in the living room, accidentally falling asleep. Once he's back, Simeon admires how peaceful you are. Simeon places a gentle kiss on your cheek. He'll let you rest for a little longer.
solomon
No matter how powerful Solomon is, he'll never get tired of asking you to join or help him with his magic experiments. He adores having you around and sharing his knowledge with the human he loves the most, especially when potions, curses, and spells are involved. The Sorcerer mischievously kisses your cheek every time you're not looking.
luke
Joining Luke in his baking classes with Master Barbatos was one of the best things you could have done. Besides spending time with them and entertaining yourself by watching their father-son dynamic, you also got to eat delicious sweets baked by them, isn't it heavenly? Luke excitedly places a small kiss on your and Barbatos' cheek. After all, dogs and kids love to spend time with their families.
Tumblr media
thirteen
Everything was an accident, and it wasn't even your fault, but Thirteen was so mad! How come you were walking by when she was trying to kill Solomon for the 5th time today? Can't you see where you're going? Now your faces are too close and- Watching Thirteen turn into a blushing mess was fun, but now you'll have to worry about running away and staying alive.
mephistopheles
You challenged Mephistopheles to kiss you in exchange for some funny photos of Lucifer. It was possible to see the blood rushing to his face, though it was hard to tell if this was happening because he was angry or embarrassed (maybe both?). He quickly kissed your cheek and tried his best to fake a disgusting expression afterward.
raphael
Solomon cooked something *special* and gave it to you as a gift, isn't it wonderful? After you stared at it with a soulless expression for 10 minutes, Raphael's stomach grumbled. The angel wanted a bite of whatever Solomon created, and you offered it to him. Though Raphael is not very expressive, he was pretty happy about the meal and placed a gentle kiss on your cheek as thanks.

Javier Peña: The Shittiest Goodbye
Pairing: Javier Peña x fem!reader (she/her; afab)
Summary: Javier has no one saying goodbye to him. No one but you.
He smiled; you could tell even from behind your tears. His golden skin crinkled under his eyes, and he pulled you forward by the waist for a short hug. A really short hug – barely four seconds – before he stepped away and leaned down, gathering a bag in each hand.
“I’ll…I guess I’ll see you.”
You kept looking at him. You couldn’t seem to stop. Neither could he.
Warnings: feeeels, crying, kissing, yearning, longing, and all that jazz, one line that can kind of be interpreted as a size kink, but a hopeful ending.
Word Count: 2.2k
A/N: javi. he's always going to fucking do it for me.
A/N 2: I haven't watched narcos in like four years so if the plot is splotchy, I apologize.
If you would like to leave a like, ask, reblog, or comment, it would be much appreciated <3

Tumblr media
He had told you in person, which was better than nothing.
“They’re sending me home. Tomorrow morning,” he said, putzing with the plastic chain hanging from the lamp on your desk. Eyes unable to meet yours. “My flight’s at 6.”
And then he walked away, each sound of his step away from you tipping the globe further and further off its axis.
You had known he was starting to take matters into his own hands. You had known said matters were dirty, bloody, and grey. And you had known said hands were now buried in a while lot of shit because of it.
You had known, and you still knew, walking into the El Dorado International Airport, squinting against the rising sun. You knew perfectly well who Javier Peña had gotten himself involved with and what they both had done on each other’s behalf.
The fact of the matter was – you didn’t give a shit, because what Javi was doing was moving the DEA further towards its goal than ever. It was fucking working.
In your opinion, if agents couldn’t get their hands dirty, then they couldn’t catch Escobar. Luckily for you, Javier felt similarly.
And yet, here he was, being sent home. The one person who gave you any comfort in the shitshow that had become your life. The only friend who had remained so every single day, the only one you could count on. The one man in all of South America that actually made you feel safe.
And, arguably, the only person in the entire DEA who truly wanted things to get better, even if it left a mark on his soul he could never wipe away.
These thoughts haunted you as you searched for Javi. For six in the morning, the gates were surprisingly crowded. Your tired eyes did their best to search for his prominent features – chestnut hair, perfectly highlighted with tips of blonde by the South American sun, broad shoulders, high cheekbones, curved, Roman nose, pouted lips, likely leaning on one leg, popping his hip out, with his hands on his waist. You secretly hoped he was in his Levi’s leather jacket.
Your eyes squinted as you peered around, lost in the sea of bodies, children, staff, and flight attendants. Suddenly, the thought of missing him wrapped its coils around you, sending a strange, foreign heat down to your toes and up your scalp. Your breathing heightened, images of him already on his flight, alone, thinking no one cared, thinking no one came from him, began to flood your brain. Your fingers grabbed at your chest, your teeth clamped around the skin of the inside of your mouth, pulling so hard you began to bleed.
He had said six, right? In the morning? Today? Had I heard him wrong?
Had he lied to me?
That thought was too much to bear, too much to process, too much too much too much –
A warm, callused hand wrapped around your forearm. You gasped, heart pounding so loud in your head that the man attached to the hand had to repeat what he was saying. His voice was muffled, his face was blurry, but everything about him was so handsome, and so familiar.
“What the hell are you doing?” he asked in a kind of whisper-yell.
It was like you had taken a sedative, looking at Javier Peña, standing right in front of you. Not gone, not forgotten. Right here. Your nervous system evened instantly, like a bucket of warm, clean water had been dumped over your body.
You smiled at him, despite yourself. Despite the situation. Despite it all.
The edge of his lip quirked slightly, but it lasted quicker than a second, before returning to his usual scowl.
“Answer my question,” he said, pulling you towards him. He didn’t sound mad, just…shocked, and a little terrified. His touch on you was gentle, but firm.
You swallowed; eyes still locked into his. You placed your hand on his chest to steady yourself and grinned at the feel of the leather.
“Only if you answer mine first – did you really think you would get to leave without saying goodbye?”
He huffed, meeting your stare, unable to prevent the drop of humor that had culminated in his eyes. “I did say goodbye.”
“Oh please,” you said, pushing away from him. “That was the shittiest goodbye ever.”
He stayed silent for a moment, before letting out a quiet chuckle.
“Besides, six o’clock in the morning is an early call time for you,” you said. You were proved correct by the dark circles under his eyes. You wondered if he had slept at all the night before. “Had to make sure you actually made it.”
“Right,” he said, and looked around him, placing his hands on his hips. His tone suddenly became serious. “You shouldn’t be here.”
That shocked you. “Are you kidding me? Why not?”
“What if – someone sees you, from the DEA, thinks you were working with me. Then what?”
“Then I fucking deal with it,” you said. “I wasn’t going to let you leave thinking that no one would care that you were gone.”
That froze him, his eyes widening just so. The fact that he was shocked at all by that statement caused a fresh set of tears to line your eyes. It was faint, but it was noticeable.
He sighed, looking down at his shoes, allowing you to notice his bags placed on either side of his feet– a large leather carrier, and a small backpack. For a moment, he looked like he was about to say something, until a voice over the speaker interrupted him.
“Flight to Austin, Texas, boarding group one may begin boarding. I repeat, boarding group one may begin boarding for flight to Austin, Texas.”
Javier glanced down at his watch before pulling his ticket out of his back pocket, reading it over with furrowed eyebrows. “I’m group two. I should probably…”
You nodded, a wave of emotion suddenly rocking you once more. The tears were streaming now, down your face. You tried to wipe them away, put they just kept coming.
He took a step closer to you. “Why the tears, ángel?”
You sniffled, wiping your nose, doing the best you could to collect yourself. Maybe that was a good thing, as it allowed this newfound pet name to go completely over your head. The voice that came out of your mouth was nasally and cracked. “I am going to have to do so much paperwork.”
He opened his mouth, once again about to say something, when the speaker went off again.
“First call for boarding group 2 for flight to Austin, Texas. I repeat, first call for boarding group 2 for flight to Austin, Texas.”
He didn’t move an inch. There were so many things you were wishing to say in that moment.
Don’t go. Please, don’t leave me here.
I’ll be alone. I’ll be alone, with you away.
I would have done the same thing you did, working with those men.
I understand why you did it, maybe better than anyone else.
I would have done the same thing, in your shoes. A couple times, I almost joined you.
I’ll go with you, and we’ll never go back. Never. Never.
You didn’t say a word, your confidence swirling down and down, deeper and deeper inside of you. Javier licked his lips and turned around, beginning to walk away. Like he did that day at your desk. Like he did however many times you had asked to help him with what he was doing. Like he did whenever the two of you would make eye contact for just a little too long.
At that all too familiar sight, the confidence inverted itself, instead flooding upwards all at once, flooding your brain with a mantra of why the fuck not?
For once, you listened to that voice, and did the same thing Javier had done to you only moments before. You took a long stride forward, grabbed his elbow, and turned him around.
And then, you took his face in your hands, and you kissed him.
Kiss was a stretch – it was more like a quick peck, barely even felt by either party. But it was something, something that got him as close to you as you had always wanted him to be – his breath fanning your face, his chest pressed against yours, a mix of coffee and mint on your lips, which you quickly licked away. Oddly enough, it steadied your heart, calmed you down instantly.
Because you had that now. That memory. Something more than passing glances and quick hugs. A part of you, in that moment, didn’t even care what his reaction was, because that feeling alone was enough for you to live with.
The rest of you, however, short circuited at the fact that he may not have wanted that at all, and you had completely violated him in the middle of a fucking airport.
You looked up into his wide eyes for barely a second before backing away from him, the beginnings of a million sorrys forming on your tongue.
That was until the bags slipped from his hands, landing on the harsh carpeting with a thud. He then rushed forward, using one hand to frame your face, and the other on the nape of your neck to tip your head back.
There was no time for your brain to accept this as fact before he brought your lips to his own, his kiss nothing less than searing, and nothing more than perfect.
You reciprocated as soon as you were able, wrapping your arms around his back to steady yourself. The feeling of his lips upon yours was better than you had ever imagined, better than you had ever fantasized about while he sat in your peripheral vision during meetings. His lips were soft, buttery, and so was his facial hair. It tickled your nose just so, which only heightened when he tilted your head further, licking the inside of your mouth. You moved your fingers to his hair in response, tugging him so harshly into you you stumbled backwards.
It was hot and sweaty, messy and desperate, and neither of you were letting up. Not even to breathe. His hands moving down to your waist felt too good, his chest against yours too real, his hair between your fingers too addictive, his soft groan every time your tongues clashed too vivid, and your lips molding together too perfect.
You were speaking to each other, in a way. Both of your bodies reciprocated every move, grabbing and twisting and pulling, both saying the same thing over and over and over again.
I’m going to miss you so fucking much.
Small eruptions of gold began to spawn behind your eyes, ones of pure pleasure, disbelief, and dizziness. His hands turned greedy now, encompassing the span of your back like it was nothing. The hairs on his face began to burn you, the feel of his warm mouth consuming you.
It was too much, too much too much too much, but it was so fucking good –
“Final call for boarding group two for flight to Austin, Texas. I repeat, final call for boarding group two for flight to Austin, Texas.”
It was like a switch flipped in both of your brains at once, propelling the both of you off of each other instantly. He didn’t make eye contact, not even for a second – just wiped his mouth quickly, fetching both bags, and turning from you, walking towards his gate.
He disappeared within the crowd, and you did the same. Turning back towards the entrance, pushing your way through the half-awake travelers, headed god knew where for god knew what.
Your lips still thumped, and so did your heart, so much so that you didn’t really know if you could feel your feet.
There were so many thoughts you could have been having, so much intricacy to the situation, that your brain did the only thing it could – it shut it all down, completely. If it hadn’t, you worried you wouldn’t have been able to pull from him in the first place.
It wasn’t until you made it back to your apartment and set your keys down on your nightstand that the thoughts started flooding in. There were too many to dissect, too rapid to make sense of, but one outweighed them all.
Had he looked back?
In your still hazy brain, that cemented every other question you had, calmed the steady stabbing that had begun to ache inside your skull. You fell asleep, the sun now high in the sky, illuminating your room into a kind of gold. It was a nice change, after a week of grey weather, but you were too gone to the world to notice.
The last thought you had before you escaped to slumber, and the first that you had the second you returned, was all the same: had Javier Peña looked back?
***
He had. Many, many times.

Holy Ground (longfic! over 300k Levi x reader)
Your relationship with your boyfriend is hanging on by a very thin thread, and everything is a good excuse to not go back to your cold bed - and that’s how you find yourself in a situation that you will soon regret. This story takes place before Eren discovered he was a Titan shifter, before Wall Maria was retaken, even before it was broken. The veterans usually make fun of the cadets for being bratty teenagers, but were they any better?

--
The set that Attack on Titan is filming on was originally from a previously scrapped project. Three weeks ago, when you and Eren first moved in, the two of you had pilfered from the leftover set dressings and props to see what you could find.
That’s where you find the tandem bike. The breaks don’t work that well, and the seat in the back is really uncomfortable, but it works well for you and Eren’s purposes, which is running away from set on lunch breaks to get slushies at the convenience store two blocks down.
As Hange said, you and Eren wouldn’t really have to do any method acting to become best friends. He’s literally the only other person on set besides Levi and Hange, who are usually too busy workshopping the set and the scripts to talk to you.
You guys eat breakfast together, go to class, and spend hours talking at night when you’re both too bored to do anything else.
You’re both leaning against the bike, two straws poked into the extra large slushie that you and Eren got. The cashier, Michael, gives you guys the slushie for free, but only one since he’s “not made of money.”
Hence, sharing. You guys always split the slushie in half - the right side is Coke for you, and the left is Cherry for Eren. It always swirls together halfway through when it starts melting, which is when you and Eren start playing with the straws - smacking yours into Eren’s and vice versa.
“Do you think it’ll be weird when everyone comes tomorrow, Eren?”
“Maybe a little bit. There’s a lot of them coming. And we’re used to having the place to ourselves.”
Tomorrow is the first official day of filming.
You and Eren have been filming scenes for the past three weeks. But tomorrow, the rest of the ensemble cast arrives, and you start really filming. And you can’t even lie - some part of the entire ordeal fills you up with anxiety.
Because the rest of the cast knows know each other already. Because they’re better actors than you. Because you’re kind of a fraud.
Eren mentioned that most of the people on the ensemble cast were great people because they were part of his class when he went to the SHWA. Meaning he already knew them. Meaning they all knew each other - that they had spent two years going to boarding school together and socializing within the same cohort.
Eren has already co-starred with Mikasa, and he and Jean used to do cameos on a different show together. He used to room with Reiner when he lived at the SHWA, and they’re all still really close.
Eren said it was kind of like a cult at times, how the industry seemed to function in that way. You just think he’s trying to make you feel better for being the sore thumb of the group.
But even beyond just meeting the cast, this entire week is a big deal. The ensemble cast is supposed to attend a panel that WIT hosts every year to answer questions and play the teaser trailer. Hange and Levi are panicking because first impressions can mean everything to a start-up show like this.
Eren tells you that there’s really big advertising company called the Elms that posts reviews of shows before they come out. They have no connections in the fields since they’re advertisers, but their opinions and reviews are basically written law once posted.
They’re the industry equivalent of a Michelin Star.
That’s why the pressure is on for this week - for the cast to get along, for us to finish filming and taking pictures for the promo, and to do great at the panel at the end of the week.
There’s so much to mess up you can’t even fixate on what to worry abo-
“Y/N. Stop it.”
You look over to find Eren glaring at you, shuffling his straw through the bottom of the ice at the cup. His lips and tongue are tinted pink from the drink, his expression annoyed.
“Stop what?”
“Thinking so hard. They’ll all like you, even if you didn’t go to SHWA.”
“I don’t know. I feel like you’ll all have inside jokes without me or something and leave me out. I don’t want to feel like a loser.”
He takes the cup from your hand, now empty, and swishes it into the trash can a few feet away from you. And then his ice-cold hand is in yours, squeezing.
You learn quickly that Eren isn’t the best with his words, but he’s always touching you in some way when a situation like this arises. He squeezed your shoulder when you forgot to bring your harness to set, delaying the entire crew for twenty minutes. And when you didn’t do so well on the French test you had last week, he put his hand in your hair but didn’t really say anything.
If it were anyone else, it wouldn’t work. But it’s Eren, and for some reason, it just does. It’s almost comforting now that you can rely on his hands to be on yours whenever you feel awkward.
“You’re not a loser, Y/N. And if someone thinks you’re a loser, I’ll just tell them they’re wrong about you.”
“Okay.”
“Plus. When they see us act, they’ll change their minds. You’re electric on the screen.”
Eren yanks the tandem bike off of the stand and pulls you up by the hand, the two of you lazily biking back to set. You try to ignore Eren’s comment and how it makes your entire body buzz.
You and Eren make ramen every morning. Because Levi said that the first time he did, it was a one-time occurrence, and he can’t feed you guys daily. He leaves out all the stuff for you, even going as far as cutting up all the vegetables that you like to put in your bowl.
“Eren.”
“Hm.”
“Try to catch the extra carrots in your mouth.”
You’re both playing the game a little bit too competitively as you start racing around the kitchen, trying to throw them so far that you both have to chase after them. And when Eren throws it all the way into the foyer, you go running.
That’s when you bump into him.
There’s a guy in the walkway who you accidentally knock into the ground from running so fast. He has short brown hair, the strands closer to his hair darker. And now that you’ve fallen on top of him, his hands are secured around your waist, both of your cheeks burning red.
You quickly scramble off, awkwardly running your hands through your hair.
“S-sorry. Me and Eren were playing a game.”
“No problem. I’m Jean.”
“Y/N.”
He smiles, his eyes glinting at you.
“Jean.”
“You said that already,” Eren grumbles from the kitchen.
You can see Jean’s cheeks burning red as the rest of them pile into the room, the quiet house suddenly bustling loud. You can’t help but get overstimulated by everyone you’re meeting, trying your best to remember names - Armin, Sasha, Bertholdt, Annie, Connie, Reiner - as they all start milling around the kitchen, sitting at the table.
“So, when are we eating?”
“Sasha shut the fuck up. All you’re worried about is eating.” Connie responds, smacking her across the forehead.
You walk over to the side of the table, tapping Sasha on the shoulder.
“They’re catering since you all flew in. They should be here in twenty minutes.”
She gives you a gleaming smile, returning to arguing with Connie. You can feel a hand tugging on your wrist, the guy from earlier yanking on your arm.
“So if they’re catering, why are you making ramen?” he asks, his cheeks pressed in his palms.
“Ah. Eren and I are kind of in the habit of making it. We kind of forgot they were supposed to cater today.”
“Well, it smells really good.”
“Did you want it, Jean? I don’t mind because Eren and I kind of ate before.”
“Oh, no. I couldn’t-”
You march over to the kitchen, where your steaming bowl of food is, much to Eren’s dismay, and return to place it in front of Jean. And when you return to the kitchen, you watch chaos ensue.
Connie and Sasha claim that Jean should share because they’re best friends. Jean says that Sasha’s asking for too much. Then Ymir says that Jean’s face is asking for too much, and now everyone’s arguing with each other.
You lean over, whispering in Eren’s ear as you talk.
“Are they always like this, Eren?”
“Unfortunately.”
He pushes his own bowl of ramen to your side, placing the chopsticks in your hand.
“Oh. It’s okay. I was the one who willingly gave my breakfast away and started World War Three, so.”
“Don’t be stupid, Y/N. Let’s just share.”
You and Eren shuffle the chopsticks in between your hands, taking turns eating from the bowl.  And you’re so distracted because Eren’s asking you about Falco and Colt that you don’t realize it when it happens.
Connie taking a picture of you two.
And suddenly, they all stopped arguing with each other and started teasing Eren.
“So this is why you didn’t tell us anything about her? Trying to keep her all for yourself, huh?” Connie says first, smirking at Eren.
You can see the tips of Eren’s ears turn red as he denies it vehemently, only goading the rest of them on more.
“Eren. Do you think Y/N is pretty? Do you love her?” Ymir asks, swinging her arm around your shoulder.
“Where do you get off, you little bitch? Why would you even ask me that? Do you think Historia is pretty?”
“Yes. I do think Historia is pretty.”
You crane your neck over to Historia, whose sitting at the table, her cheeks glowing pink in her hands. Mikasa and Armin are sitting right next to her, focused on typing away on their phones, but you can see the smile pressed on both of their faces.
“You didn’t answer, Eren. Do you think Y/N is pretty? Do you guys kiss each other goodnight? ” asks Reiner, this time leaning even more forward. They’ve backed you and Eren into a corner, the six of them smiling bloody murder at Eren.
Eren hates being put into a corner like this. But he hates it even more when you’re looking over at him, your eyes boring into his, expectantly waiting for an answer.
“Yes. I think Y/N is pretty. No, we don’t kiss each other goodnight.” he murmurs, his cheeks burning red.
You can feel your own cheeks heating up as Levi comes by, dragging the rest of the new people to set with the promise of food. Sasha’s the first one to leave.
Leaving you and Eren alone in the kitchen again, the half-finished bowl of ramen between you.
“Eren.”
“They’re always like that. It’s so embarrassing. Now I’m never going to hear the end of it. Especially from Connie and Reiner, they’re so fucking annoying sometimes it’s-”
You place your hand on Eren’s shoulder, stopping his rant in his tracks.
“I think you’re cute.”
“Huh? What?”
“You told me that you think I’m pretty. Just thought you should know I think you’re cute,” you say, shrugging your hand off and grabbing your harness from the ground as you walk off to the set.
Eren joins twenty minutes later.
He needed the extra time to get his heart to stop violently thumping in his chest.
Armin is the only one brave enough to ask. He leans over, straight into Levi’s headspace, and asks.
“Levi. What are they doing?”
The eleven of them have been watching you and Eren do this for the past few minutes. You’re both…standing there, staring at each other. You’re not exactly talking, though you do whisper something to each other a few times. You’re just kind of…standing there together.
“They do this before they shoot scenes. Y/N said it’s not really a thing for her, but Eren says he needs to feel some… tingle before he can shoot.” Levi responds, yanking his headphones partially off.
“Tingle?” Armin repeats.
“Tingle.”
“That’s not a tingle. He’s just excited to see Y/N.” Reiner responds, the rest of them chuckling.
You’ve asked Eren to explain it to you maybe a hundred times. And he always says the same thing. That he needs a second before he can shoot to stop being him, Eren, and being the character, Eren. And he knows he’s thought about it hard enough when he can feel this… writhing in his chest.
Most of the time, it’s not bad. He usually just stands there for a few seconds, looking at the ground or the set, and he’s ready. But today, the entire thing is making your cheeks burn. Because not only are the rest of them watching you, but he’s staring at you - green eyes, all soft and warm. He never really looks at you like that, straight on.
“Are you nervous, Y/N?”
“A little bit. They’re all watching, and it’s kind of a hard scene.”
“You’ll be fine.”
“Why are you taking so long today? You’re literally just supposed to look all passed out in my arms.”
“For you. You’re like nervously twitching and have to stop before we can start.”
The scene isn’t too bad. You’re just supposed to get suspended in the air and then grab Eren when he comes out of his titan. Levi and Hange said it was preferable if you could try to cry, which Eren has been trying to coach you on for the past few days.
It’s supposed to be an emotional scene. You’re supposed to think Eren’s dead and that he’s returned to life. That your best friend, the only person whose been with you since you were little, will still get to be by your side.
(Hange’s really dramatic when they explain scenes).
And when you do it, you can feel your hands shaking. They’re blowing a lot of steam onto the set as you and Eren stick out of the prop titan, making your hair stick to your forehead and your skin sizzle under the lights.
You’re sure Eren feels the same way. You place your hands around Eren’s face as he starts wobbling in the air in your hold.
You’re not supposed to say anything. You’re just supposed to feel it.
That’s what Hange wrote on your script, next to the blocking for this scene. You place your hands around Eren’s face and take the sight in. The red marks streaking down the side of his face, the way his eyes are closed, and you’re not sure what makes it happen, but you really want to hug him.
Because if this were really true, if you really did think Eren was gone, you would want to hug him. You would want to hold him in your arms, press yourself into his skin to make sure that you can feel him, so that you knew he was really there.
So you do. It wasn’t in the script or what Hange and Levi wanted you to do, but it just felt right. To hold him like this. Some part of your stomach is burning because Eren isn’t really wearing a shirt and even Eren awkwardly shuffles when you do it. You whisper down into his ear.
“Sorry. Felt right.”
And when Levi yells cut and they pull you and Eren down, Annie is the first one to say something.
“I get it now.”
“Get what, Annie?” Eren asks, yanking his own harnesses off.
“You’re not a good actor, Eren. I was really confused when they picked you as the lead. But I get it now. You guys have really good chemistry.” she replies, milling off.
You apologize to Levi for not following the script. He, in turn, tells you to do it more often.
-
After four days of filming, Eren’s more pissed than ever. Because he figured that his jealousy or possessiveness would wear off by now, that it was just because he was used to it being just him and you for the past three weeks.
And he gets why everyone wants to talk to you because they’ve all known each other for years, and you’re the shiny new toy, but do they really have to talk to you all the time?
He can’t eat ramen with you in the mornings because Sasha always begs you to make her some too. Then she’s milling around in the kitchen, asking you mindless questions while you make some for her.
He can’t do homework with you in your room because Reiner always joins - and he gets that Reiner is really bad at French, but does he always have to ask for your help with the assignments?
And he can’t even talk to you at night when he’s bored anymore. Because Mikasa’s always there too - teaching you how to braid your hair, the two of you giggle about things he doesn’t understand.
He loathes it, which is why he has the outburst that he does.
He invited you to go for slushies with him on Friday before you fly out to Cannes for the panel. But when he yanks out the tandem bike and Jean asks to go along, he can’t help but get irritated at him. So he yells at him . Like bloody murder yells at him. Which is why you and Eren quietly bike, awkwardly sharing the slushie on the bench.
“So.”
“I wasn’t going to let him come, you know? Slushies are our thing, Eren.” you respond, swirling the brown and red ice together.
“Oh. Really?”
“Well, yeah. Some things should be just ours. And I can’t help it for other things - like when Sasha asks for food, or Annie wants help with the props - but I can for this.”
Relief floods through Eren’s chest, and he smiles for the first time in five days. Thank god.
“Okay. Good.”
“Were you feeling… bad about it or something? Like I wasn’t really talking to you?” you ask, Eren not meeting your gaze and instead focusing on the geese walking across the street.
“I know you’re not like supposed to talk to me or whatever, but like. I just kind of missed you, that’s all.”
You smile, leaning your head against Eren’s shoulder.
“I missed you too, Eren.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
You and Eren bike back, matching pink lips, which is just asking to get teased at this point. Ymir asks how long you and Eren were sucking your face to get lips that pink, which just pisses Eren off to no extent. Levi makes them both sit on separate sides of the plane.
“Each person answers the panel questions in sets of two or three. There are three panels, so ensure you’re with the right person for each part.”
Your first panel is with Ymir, which you lucked out on. Because the second they start asking questions, your face is burning, your throat is itching, and you can’t answer even a single one they ask you.
You’ve never really been the anxious type. You’ve acted in school plays before and performed for big crowds. But that was always low stakes in your mind. The only people in the audience were people that you grew up with, their older sisters that always compliment you on their hair, and their parents that love to take pictures with you.
This crowd is something different altogether. They’re all wildly unfamiliar, with big cameras and notepads in their hands as they scribble down every little detail they can. Before you and Ymir could even introduce yourselves, even give them something to write down or take a picture of, they were already going hard.
That’s why you feel petrified on the stage. One of the questions is literally what your name is, but for some reason, this crowd of adults with shiny cameras and notepads makes you choke. Ymir saves the day. She’s charming enough to woo them all on her own, with a few comments from you here and there throughout the panel. Every word out of your mouth feels like balmy chalk running down your throat.
Your second panel is with Mikasa and Connie, who are surprisingly a really comedic duo. They’re both so different that they complement each other really well, providing funny anecdotes from set and talking about what it’s been like to film.
Connie, much to your dismay, tells the audience that you and Eren are inseparable - so much so that he’s caught you cuddling together on set before.
That was an accident. You were just tired from shooting on set for eleven hours. You can sneak by with another comment here and there for this panel too.
But the third panel is just you and Eren. And you know you can’t choke here because you and Eren are the leads. And granted, you haven’t really been acting like a lead this entire time by squeaking once like a mouse, but it’s infinitely worse to do it now.
“What’s wrong?”
You can feel the tears welling in your eyes as Eren looks over, concern washing over his face.
“I-I can’t do this.”
“What? Why not?”
“I don’t know. I already messed it up. My entire panels I- I didn’t even say anything because I felt so weird and like- I don’t know, I just can’t be a lead role. I’m not cut out to-”
He shakes his head, yanking you forward to push you into his embrace, his arms warm. His mouth is hovering by your ear, his voice so soft that it sends shivers down your spine.
“You’re going to be fine. You’re literally everyone’s favorite person on set because you’re just the best to be around. And it’s the same thing out there, just with people you don’t know.”
“You guys…you guys have to like me. And it’s hard when they’re all looking at me.”
“Don’t look at them. Just look at me. Just pretend you and I are sitting there, and the person asking the question is me, not them.”
You shake your head, burying it deeper into his shoulder. You can feel your panic subsiding, but there’s still a bubble of anxiety right in your throat.
You and Eren walk out, Eren’s hand pressed in yours, as you sit at the table, your hands still locked together under the fabric.
He squeezes three times before starting, introducing the two of you. The first question is for you.
“Who is your favorite person on set?” asks the lady in the front.
“Um. Maybe Hange. I’ve always looked up to them for a really long time, and getting to work with them has been re-really cool.” you mumble straight into the microphone.
You look over at Eren, who feigns shock as he talks into his.
“I’m offended, Y/N. My favorite person on set is you but your favorite person on set isn’t me?” he says, the crowd laughing.
“What? You’re so full of it, Eren. If they asked you, you probably would have said Levi because he did your laundry once.”
The crowd laughs again, and Eren smiles, his eyes warm as he looks into yours.
“You’re annoying, Y/N. I’ve literally said you’re my favorite person on set on every panel. You think you’re special to someone and find out they don’t even like you that much.”
“Oh, be quiet Eren. You’re so irritating. You know I like you.”
“What was that? Say it louder for me, I didn’t really hear you.”
“I like you.”
“One more time, Y/N. Use your big girl voice.”
“I hate you, Eren. You’re not funny and you’re not cool.”
The entire crowd laughs, Eren squeezing your hand under the table as they ask him questions next. You’re doing it.
And for some reason, you’re really in awe of this side of Eren. You never figured that he was the type of guy to be really good at press since he seems so awkward and stumbly when he’s around you, but he’s…really charming when it comes to this. He’s cracking jokes, poking fun at you while answering all the questions.
“Last question. For Eren. What was your favorite scene to film?”
“There’s this scene that we filmed a few weeks ago. Y/N did some really good improv in it, and when Hange and Levi showed it to us for the first time, we were just so excited for the show to start airing. Basically, you think my character is dead, but-”
You feel your eyes widen as you clamp your hand over Eren’s mouth, stopping him from spoiling the show before it airs. And you forget that you’re on the microphone because you accidentally start berating him into the speakers.
“Eren. You’re so full of shit. Stop spoiling the show before it can even come out.”
For some reason, the entire cast finds the entire ordeal so funny that they’re clapping bloody murder for you and Eren as you deck out.
And when you get to the back of the stage, Hange’s applauding you both for doing so well and Levi’s threatening Eren with promises of masking tape on his mouth the next time he tries spoiling the show.
You’re just thankful Eren held your hand through the entire thing. You wouldn’t have been able to stomach it if he wasn’t.
The review comes out early the next day. The eleven of you huddle around the computer, you and Eren sharing a chair as you wait for Hange and Levi to return with Erwin from the airport. The man of the hour himself has finally arrived to set, meaning you can watch the review.
It’s two girls with short blonde hair on both of them as they dissect the teaser trailer Hange and Levi produced for the panels, and the individual speaks themselves.
They introduce each actor and their character, commenting on past roles, character dynamics, and how they feel about the character overall. Almost everyone gets a glowing commendation except for Armin, who they feel doesn’t look the part.
You can tell from the way Armin shifts uncomfortably in the seat that he’s a bit put off by the comment, but Jean and Marco are already coming to his defense, whispering reassurance in his ear.
“Now, onto the leads.”
You instinctively grab Eren’s hand under the table, the two of you leaning closer to the computer to listen.
“The male and female leads for Attack on Titan are Eren Jaeger and F/N L/N. Eren Jeager was in the fourteenth SHWA cohort and already has a nice plethora of credits behind him - even going as far as to have already co-starred with major parts of the ensemble. We’re sure he will be a great lead for the show, a career-defining role if he does it right.”
You squeeze Eren’s hand three times under the table, everyone patting him on the back and squeezing his shoulders in congratulations.
“We’re unsure if the same can be said for female lead F/N L/N. Upon closer inspection, head casters Hange Zoe and Levi Ackerman have chosen something a bit untraditional by not picking an SHWA-affiliated actor. We’re unsure if she can hold her own on a show with big chops like this one since she could barely handle the panels themselves. Sure, everyone has been gushing over how cute the two leads are together, but Eren can’t really carry that part of the charm for her on screen. We’re unsure how it’ll play out, but it’s feeling pretty bleak for now.”
Eren squeezes your hand under the table, but you let go altogether. And when you look back, they’re all awkwardly staring at you, Hange and Levi pinching the bridges of their nose.
“Um. I’m not in the next few scenes, actually. So I’m just going to go eat dinner if that’s okay.”
“We’ll come with you,” Mikasa responds, yanking Sasha up from her chair.
“Oh, you guys have to stay on track with filming. You shouldn’t backlog the schedule. It’s okay.”
Eren watches you walk off set alone, Hange and Levi already doing damage control on their side. Levi’s already screaming bloody murder that they have no right to say that when they have no experience in the field, and Hange’s getting ready to run off and comfort you.
“Hange. Let me come, please.”
Eren watches Hange's features contort as they shoot him down.
“Sorry, Eren. I don’t think she really wants to talk to anyone right now. And I’m just going there to sit with her till she’s ready to talk.”
“She’ll talk to me. I can sit with her, I do it all the time. We’re best friends. And I just want to come. Please, please let me go.”
“Eren. These are all your scenes. You need to stay here. I’ll let you come check on her after, okay?”
Eren watches Hange run off and angrily acts through the next seven scenes.
When he’s done on set, he basically all but sprints to your room, snatching the video camera from Levi and Hange’s office, and knocks on the door lightly. And when he sees it, he can’t tell which emotion he feels most strongly. Never mind, he’s almost positive it’s anger.
You’re lying flat under your soft blanket, Hange’s hand in your hair. He can tell that you’ve probably been crying for a better part of the day, your eyes were all swollen and pink and your nose all runny.
Eren climbs under the blanket with you, hand locking with yours under the sheets. He squeezes your hand three times, which you return as you wipe the excess liquid from your face.
“Y/N.”
“What, Hange?”
“I’m going to call your mom and tell her that you have a boy in your bed.”
You and Eren laugh, rolling your eyes at Hange as you reach up to pull on their hair. Hange hops off the bed, retreating downstairs to get make the ramen that you asked for, as you and Eren shuffle under the blanket.
“Y/N. You okay?”
And at the sound of the question, you immediately start crying again, eyes burning as you lean your head into Eren’s shoulder.
The entire thing - it’s just so fucking embarrassing above anything else. It’s already humiliating enough to get called out as one of the only bad actors in the cast. Sure, they really dug on Armin too but it wasn’t to the extent that they did it to you. And Hange said that was because you were a girl, and they’re always going to be more critical of you than him, but it sure doesn’t feel that way.
You can’t act. You can’t do press. And for some goddamn reason, you’re the one leading the show with Eren instead of someone else. Maybe it should have been Mikasa or Historia or something, they’d surely be doing a better job at this than you.
“Nothing you say is going to make me feel better, Eren. Hange’s been trying for the past few hours, but you’re all just lying to make me come back to set.”
“What do you mean?”
“You guys just feel bad that they said that about me, even if it’s true. And now that you’re stuck with me, you have to make me do it. I’ve been telling Hange - I don’t know what they saw in me even to pick me in the first place. They clearly made a mistake.”
“Hange and Levi didn’t pick you.”
“What?”
“Well, they did. But, I picked you too.”
He reaches over, grabbing the shiny black recording camera from your nightstand. He pulls his arm around yours, holding the camera a few feet away from your face as he holds the looks for the video. And when he plays it, you recognize the same soulless room you did your chemistry screening in, Eren sitting in the chair.
“So Eren. We’re picking through the last few candidates for the lead. Is there anyone you want it to be in particular?”
You can recognize Levi’s voice over the video, and you’re sure Hange has to be the one recording from how the videos wobble around so much.
“You’re going to let me pick, Levi?” Eren from the video asks, eyes wide from shock.
“We’re in between three and we can’t pick one. And this person is your co-star, you’re probably going to spend a better part of the next five to six years with them if things go well. Should be someone you like.”
“Y/N.”
Hange comes into the frame on the video, pinching Eren’s cheeks as they ask.
“That was fast. Any particular reason?”
“I don’t even remember the names of the other ones. That’s how lame they were in comparison.”
“You sure, Eren? You really want it to be her?”
“Positive. I’d even bet on it.” Eren responds, looking over to Hange.
Hange smiles, circling a name on the clipboard, turning to the camera as they speak.
“F/N L/N it is.”
The video ends, the white screen glowing back on you and Eren’s faces.
“You… you picked me?”
“Yeah. And I’m not lying to you when I’m trying to make you feel better or tell you that you’re great. Maybe Hange and Levi are, but I’m not. I’ve always thought you were great.”
You and Eren lean back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. His hand is still in yours under the blanket, warm and sweaty, but you don’t really want to let go. Eren doesn’t say much after that, but when Hange comes with dinner and he has to go back, he says one thing which such confidence that you can’t help but believe him too. That you want it to be true.
“You’re going to prove them wrong, Y/N."

𝘼𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣'𝙨 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙔𝙤𝙪! (reworked)
Tumblr media
important: I rewrote this fic (favorite Levi piece i’ve ever written) because I’ve been planning to do so for ages. I remember writing the original version in one night, and it was the most fun I’ve had writing a fic. I wanted to rewrite it because I knew it could be improved significantly, and in my humble opinion, this version is indeed a million times better! Just like the first time, I had so much fun working on this and making changes to improve the flow, fix typos, and include some extra fluff here and there. If you’ve read this before, I hope you can give it another try! mwahhh ♡
➸pairings: levi ackerman x (fem) reader
➸synopsis: the one where levi gets you as an assistant against his will and it turns out he needed you more than his company ever did
➸genre: enemies-ish (levi is just levi and y/n doesn’t get him yet) to friends to lovers, pining, modern au, fluff
➸contains: lots of sarcasm (Levi), profanity (again, Levi), mentions of food and eating. if there’s anything i missed pls let me know! Also completely sfw btw (as it usually is)
➸wordcount: 5.7k (updated word count)
➸(original) note: ok so I totally forgot Levi’s bday takes place on christmas so just ignore that fact, thank you :) i really hope you guys enjoy this one, i really enjoyed writing it. like a lot. as in this is my favourite piece i’ve ever written ♡
Tumblr media
“Prior work experience?” Mr.Ackerman asks, his dark eyes scanning over you like you’re a puzzle he can’t be bothered to solve.
As the question hangs in the air, you find yourself shifting uneasily from one foot to the other. The impulse to talk with your hands, a habit when you’re feeling nervous, fights for release. You can sense mr. stone-face in front of you might not appreciate such animated conversation, or a one-person mime show so you resist the urge. “Well, let’s see,” you start, trying to recall your job history. “I was a sales associate at a retail store, a freelance writer for a few local magazines and websites, a long-term babysitter for three very naughty yet wonderful french children, oh and I briefly worked as a waitress— that was when I was eighteen but—”
The man interrupts you with a dry click of his tongue, his patience clearly wearing thin. “I mean, do you have any experience in this line of work?”
His question catches you off guard, prompting a frown. Isn’t he aware that every job has its messes? You’ve been part of the cleanup crew more times than you can count, and not to mention when you were a babysitter, you had to constantly tidy up after school aged children and the mess that always seems to follow them wherever they go. Whose fault is it that he’s not impressed by your eclectic job history?
Mr. Ackerman pinches the bridge of his nose, cutting through your thoughts, and exhales, “Can you f—cking clean?”
“Of course I can clean,” You snap back, your own patience fraying. “You hired me for this position, right? Besides, I’ve already passed the interview so why this interrogation now?”
Ugh. You were not expecting to get grilled at 8:30 in the morning today. Is this what the onboarding process at Mr. Ackerman’s Cleaning Services looks like?
He looks past you, probably wishing he could swap you with the agreeable plant behind you. “I didn’t hire you, Erwin did,” he clarifies, like that’s supposed to mean something to you. You watch him take a sip from his mug. The way he’s holding the cup intrigues you with his long, slender fingers barely clasping its rim yet he manages it with an effortless grace.
You remembered Erwin during your interview, the handsome blond man with broad shoulders and thick eyebrows. He was the one who asked the majority of the questions while his counterpart remained oddly quiet. Mr. Ackerman did, however, chime in near the end to pester you about how often you washed your hands. You fold your arms across your chest, defensively, “Had no idea you were against the idea of me.”
You remember when you got the position; a quick phone call with Erwin approximately 30 minutes after your interview, where he tells you that you had in fact gotten the job. You felt impressed with yourself. You knew it was the shorter, dark haired man that ran the business, and considering how indifferently he was behaving during the interview, you were already looking at new postings online when your phone rang. Getting the job was like passing a test you thought you had completely bombed.
“Don’t flatter yourself. I was against hiring at all; I don’t need an assistant.” His tone is dismissive, yet his physical state—a sling on his right arm and a fracture boot on his left foot—tells a story of necessity, not choice. You want to teasingly ask how the other guy looks but you bite your tongue instead.
Maybe he’ll share what happened to him over time but for now, you won’t pester him about it. Based on this interaction alone, you know asking him such a personal question is not the best route to go. Mr. Sunshine seems like the type of no-nonsense, stick-in-the-mud that doesn’t appreciate a little conversation to make the day’s work go by faster. Unluckily for him though, you were the opposite of that.
Tumblr media
“Mr. Ackerman,” you call out his name uneasily, feeling a mix of dread and embarrassment. Your boss had left you alone to retrieve something and in that time he was gone, you had already made a huge mistake. As Levi comes back into the kitchen, you notice his focus is on trying to put on thick, black sterile gloves instead of your blunder.
“Just Levi,” he corrects you without turning to face you. You grow more nervous.
“Okay, Levi…” You draw out his name, hoping it might soften the blow. “Um, where might one find a mop?”
His turn is cinematic, a perfect pivot of disbelief as his eyes land on the ocean of sticky raspberry lemonade—and you, the unfortunate island at its center. The same lemonade the kind owner of the house you were cleaning left out for you two to drink. The jug, now empty and rolling to a stop at his boot, seems to mock you both. He can’t seem to peel his eyes away from it.
“I was gone for five f—cking seconds.” The utter shock in his voice, evident.
“I didn’t peg you as a lemonade type of guy. I can make you some more if you’re that sad about it,” you awkwardly quip, trying to ease the tension in the room and failing, pathetically.
Levi’s response is flat, “You were supposed to help clean up messes, not create—or become them.”
Ouch.
By the end of the shift, Levi ended up doing most of the work which thoroughly impressed you. You’re certain that if he wasn’t limited by his fractured bones, he would cut his cleaning time by, at the very least, half. Still, he completed all the tasks before the client was back and with time to spare at that. Your role, it seemed, was relegated to fetching and carrying— you were simply a mobile extension of his toolkit. Disinfectants, buckets, and other cleaning materials pass from the van to his waiting hand, and your efforts were aimed at being useful, or at least not a speed bump in his way.
Anything Levi could do with one hand and one leg, he’d do it and everything else, he’d at least try. You felt more like a liability than an employee but that only made you more determined to be better next time, you wanted to prove to him that you could actually do your job and be good at it.
You are good at things.
You just needed to mess up a few times first.
Tumblr media
Here’s what you know so far about your boss: He’s mastered the art of drinking tea while driving, never spilling a drop, even one-handed. His social circle is super tight-knit, featuring exactly two friends—one being Erwin Smith, who you’ve met already, and the other is Hange, who, from your top-notch eavesdropping skills, seems to bear the brunt of Levi’s scolding.
And lastly, you’ve learned that Levi’s vocabulary is dripping with colorful language.
“That’s not clean,” comes his voice from behind you, prompting an eye roll before you shove the plate back under the running faucet. A half-hearted swipe with the sponge and a too-forceful toss into the sink’s other side result in a loud clash. “Dirty and probably f—cking broken now, too,” Levi comments, sounding bored.
“Sorry,” you mutter. This marks the first time today he’s felt the need to correct you—a personal victory. You’ve been improving, receiving fewer icy critiques with each passing day. Maybe Levi’s just run out of energy for constant corrections, or perhaps he’s grown accustomed to your unique… flair. Either way, you’re grateful for the silence.
“You’re done, brat. Go home.”
“Don’t you need help with the counters?”
“I got it.”
You nod at this, turning off the water and drying your hands on the apron’s front-pocket towel, relief washing over you as the day wraps up. You can’t help but wonder what Levi does after hours—probably waits for you to leave so he can meticulously re-clean everything. But, you figure, if he really doubted your skills that much, he wouldn’t bother waiting for your exit to do it.
“Good job today.”
Levi’s words catch you off-guard, nearly causing you to gasp. The Levi Ackerman, offering praise? Have you smelled too many cleaning solutions? Are you imagining things?
He doesn’t see your shocked expression, your mouth hanging open in surprise. You quickly stifle a smile.
Maybe, working with Levi Ackerman won’t be the nightmare you had anticipated.
Tumblr media
It was uncommon for the Ackerman company to have a client that requested cleaning services for any place other than their home but on some rare instances, the business would get one that would request Levi for a much larger setting.
Today, you two were cleaning hotel rooms.
“I take it this isn’t your first rodeo,” you comment, noting how Levi, despite being down to just two operational limbs, zips through tasks with astonishing speed. Your job is to vacuum the ugly, vomit green carpet, while Levi single-handedly makes the queen beds look pristine—a feat that seems Herculean.
He signals you over, instructing you to strip the beds so he can check for bedbugs. “I’ve cleaned here before, yes,” he says with a frown, urging you to lift the mattress higher. “No, higher. Y/n. Higher. Are you making fun of my height?”
“No!” you protest, but the smirk on your face betrays you. You could swear you see the corners of Levi’s mouth twitch in response. This is the first time you’ve ever seen your boss smile.
Kenny Ackerman, Levi’s uncle, is the polar opposite—always grinning and brimming with charm. His visits, armed with homemade lunches for Levi and flirty comments for you, are a welcome break from the norm. Levi, one time catching you staring at the lunch Kenny brought in a brown paper bag, admits his uncle started bringing food over when he first got hurt.
“Is Ken really your uncle, or more like a family friend uncle?“ You inquire as you both move to the next suite, settling into a comfortable work rhythm. Levi seems unfazed by your curiosity, which you’ve piqued frequently over the past few weeks.
He ignores your question but raises an eyebrow at you, “Ken?”
You press on, asking if Kenny might be a close friend of his dad’s, given their dissimilar appearances. Levi’s reaction to the mention of his father is a clear signal to change the subject.
"Fluff the pillow on your side, brat,” he instructs next.
You’re not sure what constitutes fluffing but you attempt to do so anyway by gently pressing down on the soft pillow. You can feel the heat of Levi’s glare torching you but when you look up at him, he looks sort of amused.  “What palace were you raised in?”
“Huh?”
“Let me rephrase that then—do you not know what fluffing a pillow is?”
“I just did it!”
“No. What you did was give that pillow a shitty massage. Give it to me.” After you hand it to him, Levi aggressively demonstrates what he wants you to do but it looks awkward because he’s doing it with one arm. “F— ck,” he curses under his breath. “Maybe I should hire an assistant for this shit.”
You can’t help but smile, recognizing this interaction for what it is—Levi’s way of opening up. These past weeks have shown you that his gruff exterior hides a form of friendly banter, warming you from the inside out whenever you get to experience it.
You’ve actually begun to look forward to Levi’s humour.
Odd.
Tumblr media
You have got to stop staring and you know this. It’s just whenever he’s preoccupied with something and his concentration is laser focused, you can’t keep your eyes off him. You’ve convinced yourself that this was the safest way you could be semi-creepy and so far, it’s proven to be effective.
Right now, he’s on a very urgent and pressing phone call, at least that’s what it looks like to you. Just the mere thought of Levi taking notice of you gawking at him from above through a crack in the curtains is enough to send you spiralling. And yet here you are…still…
“Y/n, you’re staring.”
Shit.
Thankfully, it’s Erwin who catches you, not Levi. Your cheeks burn with embarrassment as you scramble for an excuse. “No, I w-wasn’t. I was j-just—”
Erwin’s laughter cuts you off, deep and rich. “It’s fine. I stare at him all the time. The difference is he doesn’t cuss you out the way he does me.”
Your heart skips a beat. “What do you mean? You think he’s noticed me staring?” You sneak another glance at Levi, who’s now expressing his disdain for the caller, blissfully unaware of your current predicament.
“Most definitely. And his silence on the matter is telling,” Erwin says with a reassuring smile. But his words leave you more curious than comforted. What does Levi’s silence mean? He continues, “It’s his birthday tomorrow since I know he wouldn’t dare tell you. Do what you wish with that information.”
As if he had a special sixth sense that alerted him that he is the topic of discussion upstairs, Levi waltzes into his office and squints with suspicion at the two of you huddled in a hush-hush conversation. “Oi, eyebrows. Don’t you have a vulnerable citizen to harass for their vote somewhere?”
Erwin shakes his head as he laughs. Looking at you, he says, “Don’t listen to him. I’m not a dirty politician.”
“You’re definitely dirty, get off my chair.”
One thing you wonder about when you see these two in action is how they ever became friends. They aren’t exactly drowning in similarities or mutual interests but you couldn’t deny that there is a deep-rooted respect that goes further than what you’re able to decipher. You do know that Erwin owns the entire building and he lets Levi rent office space and storage rooms here but you question which came first: the business relationship or the friendship?
“Before I head out,” Erwin turns to face you, “I can count on your vote, right? For the upcoming election?” He asks, raised eyebrows and all. The surrounding air is filled with his scent. His woodsy cologne is thick but pleasant—it suits him.
Before you’re able to answer, Levi cuts you off, “My office is not a breeding ground for your pathetic campaign efforts.”
“My building.”
“F—ck off.”
You smile at their banter— their exchange is a familiar dance, one you’ve grown accustomed to observing. But your thoughts are elsewhere, pondering Levi’s upcoming birthday. You’re grateful Erwin mentioned it; he’s right, Levi would never share that information himself.
You find yourself wanting to do something for him— maybe get him a gift? What started off as a hostile, awkward work relationship has blossomed into a real friendship and you would never let a friend’s birthday go by without doing a little something special for them.
Levi also is a great boss, who deserves a birthday treat.
Perhaps there’s more to your admiration than you’re willing to admit quite yet.
Tumblr media
Arriving at Levi’s office early in the morning, you’re greeted by the sight of him on his laptop, deeply engrossed in his work, his fingers flying across his keyboard. The morning light catches in his dark hair— the sun rays highlighting his intense gray-blue eyes. You can’t help but be captivated as he brushes his hair back with a weary hand.  You lose your mind when he does that; he’s blissfully unaware of how mind-blowingly attractive he is.
You linger in the doorway awkwardly, feeling suddenly out of place, reminiscent of a child caught in a mischievous act. When Levi finally notices you, his sigh fills the room. “It’s your day off.”
Taking his acknowledgment as an invitation, you step inside, cheerfully reminding him, “It’s your birthdaaaay,” your voice in a tune.
Almost immediately he retorts,“Exactly why I gave you a day off. A treat for me.”
You ignore him. “I wanted to take you out for breakfast.”
“I don’t pay you that much,” he scoffs, still tapping away on his keyboard.
He’s wrong, Levi pays you more than you’ve ever been paid in your life, even more than when you were working at that super pretentious magazine that bragged about how well they treated their employees. Turns out their idea of spoiling their staff was a pizza party every third Sunday of the month. It was pitiful. Levi Ackerman believes in a living wage. Levi Ackerman is a good man.
“Sit down, will you? You’re stressing me out just standing there,” he says, his eyes softening at you for a moment, allowing you a glimpse of his gentler side.
With a sheepish grin, you pull up a chair, the noise seeming to amplify in the quiet office. You quickly apologize for the disruption, settling into the seat across from him.
“We can grab something to eat once I’m done with a few things. Is that okay with you, princess?”
“Anything for you, birthday boy,” you respond warmly, beaming at him.
He veils his amusement with a face of semi-disgust, “Vile.
Tumblr media
“You know, when someone says they want to take you out for breakfast, there’s usually a time limit involved.” It’s now 12:03 pm, and your patience, though thinly stretched, hasn’t snapped—yet. Levi’s gaze softens, a hint of guilt flickering in his eyes. Rushing to lighten the mood, you add, “I’m kidding. I’m more of a brunch person, anyway.”
“And what about my preferences?” His voice, gentle and distant, pulls at something inside you.
“Of course, it’s your birthday,” you remind yourself aloud, tapping your fingers against the edge of his desk. “So, what do you like, Levi?”
The pause before he answers is loaded, his look implying you ought to know his preferences by heart. “I like silence when I work,” he finally says.
Right. You nod and mime locking your lips, leaning dramatically back in your chair, only to find yourself fighting off sleep shortly after.
“Time to wake up, princess. I have a task of royal importance for you,” Levi’s low, velvety command has you instantly alert. “You’re going to answer all my texts. They’re birthday wishes; just read them out and reply.”
Grinning at the trust he’s placing in you, you take his phone and start sifting through the messages. “Wow, didn’t peg you for Mr. Popular,” you tease. Levi rolls his eyes and then urges you to continue, unfazed.
Your eyes widen as you encounter messages from unexpected senders. “Uhm, I see some local celebrities in here. Wanna explain, Levi?"
“Just friends. And mind your business,” he grumbles.
Reading a message from Hange aloud, you watch his reaction closely. “Happy birthday, shortstack. I promise I’m not planning anything extravagant for you but just so we’re on the same page, define extravagant winky face,” you echo their playful tone.
“You’re smiling,” you point out, unable to resist.
“Hange’s full of it. Skip that one,” he dismisses, though his brief grin tells another story.
As the day stretches into evening, with work piling up and plans going awry, you can’t help feeling a mix of disappointment and defeat. Was this the universe’s way of suggesting you rethink your interest in Levi?
“I’m sorry,” Levi finally breaks the silence, noting the time—6:17 pm. Your attempt to brush off the day’s letdown with a smile doesn’t fool him.
“I’m sorry you had to spend your birthday in an office,” you shrug.
“It’s not about my birthday, I just hate making you wait,” he says, sincerity lacing his words.
You try to wave it off, “Water under the bridge.”
He surprises you then, “Can I take you out to dinner?”
“It’s your birthday,” you protest, the absurdity of the situation not lost on you.
“Really? I hadn’t noticed,” he quips, his signature dose of sarcasm in his voice.
“The whole point of me coming here was to take you out Levi!”
He sighs while standing up. Reaching for his coat, which had spent the day forgotten over his chair, he juts his chin towards the door. “Fine. So take me out then.”
Tumblr media
You had pegged Levi for the type to frequent pretentious, overpriced restaurants — the kind that serves a single asparagus spear drizzled with truffle oil and charges a fortune. So, when he mentioned knowing a place for dinner just a couple of streets over, you couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous. Despite dressing decently for Levi’s birthday, you weren’t in anything particularly fancy. And Levi, always impeccably dressed as if he were campaigning for office alongside Erwin, would surely fit in anywhere he chose. You remind yourself to relax; after all, it’s just dinner.
“I hope you like Indian food,” Levi says as you reach the destination. He holds the door open for you, the gentleman that he is at heart. You didn’t just like Indian food; you adored it, savored it every chance you got.
“Yeah, I don’t mind it,” you shrug casually, trying to mask your excitement.
Once seated by a friendly teenage waitress, you take in the ambiance of the restaurant. It’s a cozy, bustling hole-in-the-wall, filled with lively conversation and vibrant energy. It’s loud enough to make you reconsider Levi’s alleged preference for silence. If he can enjoy his time in a place like this, he can surely handle your occasional chattiness at work.
“This is a cute little place,” you admit, taking in the bright decor and the charming, unlit lanterns on each table.
“Family-owned too,” Levi grunts, passing you a menu.
You beam at him, “I like that.”
After ambitiously ordering nearly everything on the menu, eager to sample the array of dishes, you start bombarding Levi with questions. “Have any siblings?”
“No, and you’ve already asked me that before. Running out of questions?” he teases.
“Pets?”
“No.”
“Are you in a relationship?”
He chokes on his water, fixing you with a stern look. “Y/n.”
“What? You know I’m nosy. You should be prepared by now,” you lean in, undeterred by his reaction, “Have you ever been in a relationship?”
“Yes.”
“Are you in one right now?”
A beat passes. “No."
His hesitation sparks your curiosity further. "But you hesitated. Why did you hesitate, Levi?”
“Holy shit—” He’s cut off as the waitress returns, skillfully balancing the array of dishes you’d ordered. You offer her an apologetic smile, silently vowing to tip generously for the trouble.
As the tantalizing aromas of the dishes fill the air, you resist the urge to dive in immediately, mindful of the impression you want to leave on Levi. However, his encouragement, “Eat. You’re not fooling anyone,” paired with your enthusiasm for the rogan josh placed directly in front of you, quickly shatters any pretense of sophistication.
“Shut the hell up,” you gasp between bites, your initial reservations forgotten in favor of savouring the delicious food.
“Oi, slow down. You’ll choke,” Levi warns, amusement lacing his voice.
“This is so good, Levi,” you manage to say, your expression one of pure delight.
He chuckles to himself, looking away as he does so. You don’t think you’ve ever seen him laugh like that. You study his face, wishing you could capture this moment in a recording so you won’t ever forget it. It’s fine, you think to yourself. You just have to memorize the sound of his laugh and live off of it forever.
Eventually Levi says, “Why don’t you try this one too,” he pushes the plate of lamb biryani over to you, patiently waiting for you to take some.
This has to be your love language—sharing food.
You’re so happy you never want to leave this table, or Levi. Mostly, Levi. And this biryani.
“Do you like your job?” His question startles you. It came out of nowhere.
You swallow your food. “I do.”
Cocking your head to the side, you watch as he struggles to find the right words to use to form his questions. His eyes lock with yours and this time they stay there. “I’m not too…overbearing?” he asks, gently. Almost shyly.
“You’re the perfect amount.”
“Are you happy?”
“Are you trying to get rid of me, Levi Ackerman, owner of Ackerman’s cleaning services?”
“That’s the opposite of what I’m trying to do.”
“I’m happy working. I’m actually happiest working with you,” you admit, heat rising to your cheeks. Levi doesn’t say anything but you read something on his face. Relief? Maybe.
Eventually you realize it was Levi looking pleased with your answer.
Tumblr media
“Cleaning is an honorable job,” you say after Kenny has left. He had made some stupid joke about Levi’s work despite how popular and very needed his services are.
“Y/n, quit it. Seriously. I don’t give a shit.”
“No, I know. I do, I just…” You take a deep breath in and turn to face him. He’s wearing his usual scowl on his face—the curve of his mouth slightly turned downward and his nose is scrunched up the tiniest bit. You could just about kiss that wrinkle between his eyebrows away if he’d let you.  Smiling, you finish, “I just wanted you to know.”
Tumblr media
“I enjoy spending time with you.”
You feel your stomach perform its now-famous acrobatics, seemingly attempting to tie itself in knots. Laughing nervously, you manage to say, “That’s good because we do spend a lot of time together. It would be awkward if you didn’t like me, right?”
Levi exhales deeply, a sign you’ve missed the mark. “You’re not getting it. With other people, I’m always on edge, wondering if I’m being friendly, engaging, or polite enough. Constantly checking if my permanent resting scowl has scared someone off again. It’s exhausting. People drain me, but the ones who don’t… I prefer to keep them close.”
“So, you’re saying you want me around indefinitely?” you push, hope coloring your tone.
“I’m saying thank you. You—” he stops himself when he catches you hanging onto every last word coming out of his mouth, waiting for the rest. He rolls his eyes a little bit which makes you smile even harder.
“Yeah?” You pester him, not willing to let the moment pass.
“Nothing.”
“Say it.”
“F—ck off.”
Undeterred, you flutter your eyelashes in a playful, last-ditch effort. “Please? I’d really love to hear what you were about to say.”
After a moment’s hesitation, he relents. “You make it okay to be myself.”
You laugh, “Levi, I don’t think you’re aware of how okay you are.”
He smiles the tiniest bit,  “Charming.”
“No, you know what I mean. You’re obviously more than okay!”
“Mhm,” he murmurs, beginning to walk away but not without leaving his hand lingering in the air behind him—a silent invitation to grab onto it. If there’s anything you look out for, its the opportunity to touch Levi and in this case, to hold his perfect hand in yours. You follow him as he leads you back to that restaurant he first took you to.
Tumblr media
“Have you guys kissed yet?” Hange leans towards you, excitedly waiting for your response. You catch Levi’s eyes on you from across the room but lately, they seem to always be on you. He’s pretending to be engaged in a way too animated conversation with Erwin and his politician buddies. Poor guy.
“Please, we’re not even a thing yet,” you snort, waving away the ridiculousness of the question.
“Okay, well, does Levi know that you’re not a thing? Because he already bought matching stuff for you at his condo.”
“What? really?”
Hange lists the items: cat mugs, slippers, and even matching gloves.
“He’d have a fit if he knew you spilled this top secret info,” you say, feeling a mix of excitement and disbelief.
Hange waves off the potential threat to their well-being with a scoff. “Oh, he’d definitely kill me. But it was too juicy not to share,” they wink, leaving you grinning from ear to ear.
Tumblr media
You were finally at Levi’s impeccably clean and tidy place and you have to stop yourself from looking around for all the things Hange mentioned earlier. You’re sitting in the living room, on his comfortable green couch while Levi is making you a cup of tea in the kitchen. You wonder if he hid the matching mugs in the back of his cabinet. When will he think it’s an appropriate time to show them?
Or.
What if they weren’t even for you—what if there was someone else in his life he’s willing to be all matchy-matchy, cutesy-cutesy with?
Levi eventually comes out with two non-matching mugs; one for you and one for him. You feel a little disappointed when you see them but you swallow it down. “I should’ve been the one making the drinks. I’m not the one who’s injured.”
“Please, you watch me mop floors and wipe windows on one foot without ever offering to help. I even catch you smirking sometimes.”
You bite back a grin. “Hey!” You shout. He’s not entirely wrong but you know he would never let you intervene with his little tasks like mopping the floor or wiping down windows— they were therapeutic acts to him. What kind of monster would take that away from a man? Exactly.
“I hope you’re not completely traumatized by that gathering. I needed you there, I wouldn’t have been able to survive it without you.”
“I’m glad to be your knight in shining armor tonight,” you tease, taking the cup of tea from him and turning your body towards his. “Does Erwin usually host stuff like that?”
Levi sends you a look. “Always. And of course I had to choose a f—cking politician to be friends with.”
You chuckle, “Between Erwin, Hange, and me, you’re good to never have another social interaction for the rest of your life.”
He laughs out through his nose, similarly to how a dragon would breathe fiery flames out its nostrils. “I must be some extrovert magnet.”
“You are! Even with that permanent scowl on your face.” Your beautiful, beautiful face, you want to add. “Levi Ackerman, you are a prize. The prize.”
His eye-roll is theatrical, but you catch a blush creeping onto his cheeks.
“Are we a thing?” you ask gently, after some time.
“A thing?” He repeats after you, quietly.
“Like, you know,” you bite your lip. This could potentially be a dumpster fire of a conversation. Awkward and embarrassing depending on how he responds. “—like a couple.”
He sets down his cup on the coffee table, probably sensing the seriousness of the moment, and you do the same. “We can be.”
Oh okay, not the worst possible answer there is.
“Do you like me?”
He looks as if you just stabbed him, or more like you stabbed his mother in front of him and he had to watch in horror. “I’m going to be honest, y/n, i’m kind of f— cking devastated you’re asking me this.”
“I can’t ask?”
“No, it’s just… Shit.” His eyes dart frantically between you and the floor, a clear sign of the turmoil within. It’s evident he’s wrestling with a multitude of thoughts, and all you yearn for is a glimpse into even just one of them. After a tense few seconds, he straightens up and meets your gaze directly, a pained expression etched across his features. “I’m upset at the fact that you’re walking around not knowing that I like you— and the fact that you even have to ask? That there’s any doubt about my feelings for you?” He pauses, taking a deep breath before he adds, “I’m sorry. Yes, I like you. I’m upset at myself that I didn’t make myself very clear about how I feel about you before. I’m sorry.”
You can feel your eyes beginning to burn and you don’t even know why you’re about to cry. You just wanted Levi to like you, so, so much.
The realization that you’re panicking both internally and visibly prompts you to stand, aiming for a quick escape. "This is good. Okay. So, I’ll see you at work tomorrow morning?”
Levi chuckles at your abruptness, “Yes, you will, but could you maybe not try to flee the scene?”
“I have to go,” you insist, though your feet betray you and show no intention of moving.
“F—cking hell. You planning an escape route?” Levi raises his eyebrows.
“I’m not escaping…” you confess, surprising even yourself.
“Then sit,” he commands gently, softening it with a, “Please?”
“I’m so nervous. Stop making me nervous.” You blurt out but decide to sit down anyway. The way he’s staring at you like you’re bonkers out of your mind right now is enough to make you burst into laughter. You snort against the back of your hand. “Stop looking at me like that!”
“Can’t make you nervous, can’t look at you. Is there anything I can do? Should I turn around and face the wall?” He mocks you, lovingly. His tone doesn’t say it but his eyes do. Everything he does to you is with love. No wonder you’ve fallen head over heels for him.
“You do realize you’re my boss, right?” you giggle, a sound so foreign to you. “I haven’t giggled like this since middle school. What’s happening to me?”
Levi beams at you, “Great, just what I needed, a subordinate with a crush. Now I have to navigate office politics, power imbalances, get HR involved…”
He pulls you onto his lap.
Tumblr media
Your arms wrap tightly around Levi’s chest from behind him, as you rest your chin in the nook of his neck. He’s writing an email to someone, as he usually is during this time of the day.
Jokingly you ask, “When are you going to promote me, huh?”
“I did promote you,” you can hear the smile in his voice. He stops his typing to bring your hands to his mouth. He peppers them with a thousand pecks.
“Employee to girlfriend does not count”
“Shit,” he mock curses, then grins at his screen which you catch in its’ reflection.
“I have another question,” you announce, sensing an opportunity to delve into one of the many mysteries surrounding your lover.
“You always do,” he shoots back without missing a beat, fingers resuming their dance across the keyboard.
“Very funny.” You roll your eyes before pressing a gentle kiss to the side of his neck, savouring the coolness of his skin. “But seriously, honey. You never did tell me how you managed to break your arm and leg.”

hihi could i request something with the obey me characters with a mc that has a cat/their reactions to meeting their cat or just their pets in general?
Hi, Thank you so much for the request! As an owner to two cats myself, This was so much fun for me to write, I hope you have a great rest of your day/night :) Genre: Fluff ! Ship: The brothers/Side characters x reader (platonic Luke!) TW: cussing, Mentions of catnip, Eating catfood (Beel's section),
When You Own A Cat
Tumblr media
Lucifer
Well, this won’t do.
He has a very strict pet policy in the HoL but for you…He may twist his words a little
Will act cordial with your cat just because he doesn’t want to upset you but like
Luci is a dog person through and through so this may be a bit of an inner struggle
Here's the thing though, I don’t think he has ever really been around a cat before
So when he starts to warm up to your furry friend…He kind of relates to the cat 😭
Listen, I think Lucifer acts a lot like a cat, Hard to get close to, Will act better than you, etc, etc
Once he and your cat get close though? They are two peas in a pod- He’ll let the cat snuggle up to him when he isn’t busy.
Mammon
Ehhh, He isn’t too crazy either way about it, You got a cat, so what?
If y’all are dating, He’s gonna be a little clingy because he thinks the cat takes up too much of your attention in his opinion!
Will definitely play with you’re cat though, no matter if he likes the animal or not, He finds your pet running after a laser/string hilarious!
May blame the cat for breaking things so that Lucifer doesn’t hang him from the ceiling…
Once he’s warmed up to your kitty though, They are thick as thieves
He will buy them any toy he thinks they’ll like, Will definitely buy some catnip (If you’re okay with it!) just for shits and giggles
Levi
A little skeptical at first,,, Of course you have such a normie pet!
In the beginning, He’s gonna be jealous (shocker, I know)
Can almost feel the envy coming off of him when your cat settles down in your lap
But when your cat starts to do the same things with him? Total 180°
He’s in Love! Will start watching cat-related animes and playing cat-related games
Will try to introduce them to Henry, Just don’t let them get too close…
Tumblr media
Satan
un-HOLLLYYY SHHHIITTTT, Y’all, the moment you have been waiting for-
Minds running a mile a minute, Looks just excited on the outside, but on the inside? Oh, He.is.SCREAMING
Will ask every question there is to ask, Name, Age, birthday, breed, personality
He may just kind of…Pick the cat up and leave with them after their first interaction
Your cat will become the most spoiled being in the Devildom, Your cat shall never want anything ever again, Satan will get them everything they want, no matter how hard it is to obtain
Your kitty will kind of get roped into a bond with Satan whether they want to or not, But let’s be honest, Your cat’s gonna love him seeing as he would kill for them
Asmo
Awwwww, How cute!
As long as your cat doesn’t get into his stuff, They’ll also be instant besties
His camera roll really consists of 4 categories
Himself
You
Your cat
All three of y’all together
Will probably try to put your cat into some dumbass costume
Will buy your cat so many accessories, What do you mean they don’t need a bedazzled collar?! >:0
Snuggle buddies when you aren’t around, Yes, This does look as adorable as it sounds-
Overall, He will love and pamper your cat all the time
Beel
Oh? You have a cat? That’s cool :)
Loves to see how much joy they bring you, He loves seeing you happy no matter what
He has tried cat food before, both wet and dry and ain’t afraid to try it again…You should probably lock up the cat food just in case.
Will also play with your cat with like just some string, He thinks it’s cute :)
Is honestly fascinated by your pet lowkey, He never knew how sleek most were! Is bamboozled by the whole, Landing-on-their-feet thing
They become friends pretty quickly I’d say, He makes sure to always be super gentle with them because he knows how much bigger he is than them (I am so mentally ill about him istg)
If your cat becomes interested in something he’s eating, He’ll give them a lil nibble (If it’s safe for that cat to consume ofc)
Buys a lil cat bed for his and Belphie's room, It stays at the foot of his bed
Tumblr media
Belphie
A cat? Ew, That sounds like responsibility
Indifferent at first, As long as he doesn’t have to really mess with it, He’s chill
But one day, He awakens abruptly (Unheard of) To your cat making biscuits on his cheek
Kiss your cat goodbye, It’s his now
Cuddle buddies, every day, all-day
Will put on those bird videos to play with your cat
The second brother I’m gonna say acts like a cat, He will literally catch himself mimicking the cat sometimes
They would so judge people together, Lucifer just entered the room their in? Side eye…
Diavolo
How sweet! He has zero qualms about your little friend
Another one that will buy pretty much everything for your cat, Y’all don’t even have to be close for him to do this, He just thinks of your cat as an extension of the exchange program, Therefor he buys them anything he thinks they need
Best of buddies when they get close to each other
Will some just walk around RAD with your kitty, Just showing them things, Will also ask for your cat's thoughts on laws in a kind of joking way, But he 100% will listen seriously if they decide to answer him with a meow
Barbatos
Doesn’t have a very strong opinion of your cat at first, He isn’t exactly a pet type of person seeing as he rarely has time for such things but in my humble opinion, I think most animals flock to this man like Snow White
Listen, This man is the definition altruistic person so I think Smaller creatures would find comfort in his presence, This is also why the Little D’s love him so much
Your cat will always look their best, Barb will trim their nails, take them to the vet, brush their fur and other things without you even having to ask
Once they become more acquainted, I can see him making some cat-safe baked treats for the kitty
Tumblr media
Simeon
He thinks your cat is precious! Though at first will be worried about the small thing being in a place like the Devildom
Him being an angel does change a few things, I think animals naturally flock to him as well just because of his angelic background so he and your cat are kind of just automatically BFF's
He will always be up for loving on your cat, No matter how busy he is- He won’t ever turn down your kitty
Probably the first person you should ask to catsit, a close second being Barbatos
Solomon
They will be partners in crime even if your cat doesn’t want that
Don’t be surprised if he starts to refer to your cat as his ‘Furry apprentice’ instead of their actual name
Takes photos of your cat, but only when he finds them in a stupid position
Another contender to buy them some catnip and just watch them go crazy
Once they have warmed up to eachother, He is gonna torment this cat 24/7 almost
Luke
A cat and a chihuahua, Natural enemies!
Jkjk but not really…
He doesn’t like how stuck up a lot of cats are but he thinks your’s is pretty cute
Will ask Simeon how to pet them correctly and treat them well because he cares!
After the first few weeks he actually really warms up to your kitty
Will always ask how their doing like they are a person, no matter what.
Doesn’t admit it but he really adores your cat :(

Erwin Smith & Shy! Reader Headcanons
Pairing: Platonic! Erwin Smith & Levi x Shy! Reader
Requested by anonymous: Hello! Do you think I could ask for Headcanons with Erwin Smith being a father figure towards a shy, quiet but sweet reader? Of course! I'm afraid I'm not the greatest at writing headcanons, but I did my best 💪(◡̀_◡́҂). Here you go 💜
Attack on Titan Masterlist ❤️ Fandom Masterlist
Tumblr media
You joined the Scouts as soon as you could, but have always tried to maintain a low profile, in fact out of everyone who has encountered you, at least 98.99% are certain they've never actually heard your voice before.
Are you mute? Do you just think you’re too good for everyone else? The world may never know.
…Alright, so that might've been an exaggeration. Some people know, notably those who don’t survive off of a single brain cell (aka Erwin and Levi, sometimes Hange depending on the day???).
Okay, let's start off with Levi's opinions of your first. What does he like about you? You're quiet. Plain and simple. You don't talk his ear off about stupid stuff. You don't make dumb annoying jokes like Springer or Braus. You don't butt heads with others like Yeager and Kirstein. You're one of those rare cadets who has decent manners and clearly wasn't raised by wolves (although a bit more on that later).
Erwin isn't as shy when it comes to giving you praise. If he notices you feeling insecure or particularly shy, you can bet he's on that shit right away the same way Levi's on dirt with a mop. Oh, and his words of support aren't just 'words'. Expect a full on speech with the same sort of passion he pours into his job.
Now, there's a reason for Levi and Erwin often encouraging you that goes beyond you simply being their favorite (which you probably are). They can relate to you. You're an orphan. They're both orphans. The difference? They didn't have anyone there for them. They each lost the only father-figures they had when they were young and know the pain well, so they'll be damned if they let you suffer the same path.
Yep, they're self-proclaimed dads. Levi, of course, won't admit it aloud because he's stubborn, but that doesn't apply to Erwin. He doesn't necessarily go around saying anything, however if someone asks if he has a kid, he'll shameless say 'yes' with a sly smirk on his face (is he lying?!).
You don't mind the attention. It may have been uncomfortable at first since you weren't used to having any parent figures, although you quickly realized how nice it could be to have two scary dads hovering over your shoulder especially whenever someone gives you a hard time for being so timid. Mind your own business or get assigned extra cleaning duty. You choose.
Added bonus? Expert advice that isn't handed down in an intimating way that could be mistake for harsh criticism like everyone else gets. Feel free to go to Erwin any time you have a question. He'll go over with you in detail, and if you don't understand his explanation, he'll try different ways to get it across, even taking you to others who might be able to explain it better. You also might just be the only scout who isn't afraid to ask Levi for critiques on your fighting skills since you can so easily see beyond his 'tough-guy' act.
Hell, sometimes you just follow them around like a lost puppy, too, just to soak in some bonding time. Erwin actually really enjoys this, liking the quiet joy that comes with having you help him with important documents. Levi may huff and puff about it, sometimes waving you off when others comment on you being his shadow, yet know that deep down he takes a lot of pride in your presences.
Yep. They're both wrapped around your silent little finger. Do what you want with this information.

pairing: levi ackerman x gn!reader (college!au and best friends to lovers!au) genre: fluffy cw: none summary: "i’ve been imagining law student levi ackerman and civil engineering y/n, they’re both college student and best friend as well. but they decided to rent a space or dorm for themselves since they both tolerate each other but the thing is they’re secretly in love with each other and confess their love at the end." a/n: @loveackerman hi ~ ^-^ here's your request! i loved writing this oneshot and i hope you also like it and have fun reading it! thanks for making this request! ❤️
REBLOGS AND COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED!
Tumblr media
"What do you think of this new clock I bought for my desk?" you asked Levi as soon as you noticed him walking into the dorm you shared. "It was on sale."
After placing the backpack he was carrying on top of his bed, Levi then approached you to observe your new purchase. "It's nice, it matches the other decorations in the room," he ruffled your hair before turning his attention to some books. "Didn't you say you needed a new laptop though? It's more important for your studies, you shouldn't be spending money on unnecessary things," he remarked, making you feel embarrassed for being scolded by your best friend. This was a frequent occurrence, sometimes you felt as if you hadn't stopped living with your mother.
"I know, sorry," you pouted and embraced him from the side, irritating him, "I'll save money, I promise."
"Tch, whatever, just get off me, brat," he joked, pretending not to like your affection.
You giggled, squeezing his cheeks, a thing that only you were allowed to do without having your arm broken, and reminded him, "By the way, I have a project due in three days, it's from that annoying teacher, I need your opinion on what I've done so far!"
"And what help will I be? I'm a law student, I don't know anything about civil engineering, you idiot,"
"Don't even try to lie to me just so you don't help me, okay? We've been friends for a long time, I already know how smart you're in many topics," you protested.
Levi sighed shaking his head and said, "Fine, but let's look at this later, okay? We need to eat lunch first."
-
The sound of the alarm clock seemed distant when Levi finally woke up to turn it off. Taking a glance at you, he recognized how exhausted you looked from having spent the night studying and how deep you were asleep.
Carrying on with his morning routine, making as minor noise as possible, Levi finished eating his breakfast, and before he departed, he grabbed a blue Post-it and left a message for you, next to your phone.
"(Y/N),
You stayed up late studying, I remember you saying that class today wasn't that important, so I let you rest.
There's food in the microwave. Eat well and rest."
With a few hours left before the sun went down, Levi was still in the library studying with a close friend of the two of you, Hange, when his phone rang.
"So, who called you, shorty? (Y/N)?" Hange raised a question as soon as Levi put the device in his pocket and started putting away his notebooks.
"No, my idiot uncle," he answered, now standing up.
"Oh, I thought it was your worried girlfriend," Hange mocked. "You shouldn't be gone so long without telling her where you are, you know."
Rolling his eyes and leaning on his hands on the table to face the bespectacled woman, Levi clarified irritated, "Stop with the teasing, you know it makes (Y/N) uncomfortable, shitty glasses. And I already told you, we're not dating."
Throwing the pencil she held on the table and crossing her arms, Hange expounded, "Seriously, Levi, the display of affection between you two, even when you're in public, doesn't seem like friends, you know? It's obvious that you're in love with each other but you're afraid to confess it. I'm just afraid that this situation will end up delaying both of your love lives," she concluded.
"What do you mean by that?" Levi inquired, not caring if he sounded bothered by what his friend had declared.
"There're a lot of guys who're into (Y/N), and they just don't approach her because everyone thinks you're together. Even your mom thinks so!" Hange exclaimed.
-
The clock marked 2 am and you still hadn't managed to sleep, the lamp on the other side of the room indicated that your best friend was also still awake.
"Did Hange disturb you so much today that you can't sleep?" you joked, turning to face Levi, and were surprised to see him sitting on his bed.
He gave a subtle sideways smile before responding, "Tch, I wish that was all."
Getting up and going to sit next to him, you then hugged him from the side resting your head on his shoulder, an act you were wont to do only with Levi, and voiced, "You've been acting weirder than usual since you got back from the library, did something happen that you don't know how to tell me?"
The gentleness with which you spoke and acted with Levi when you knew he was bothered by something always impressed him, it's as if the sweetness in your voice made him automatically open his mouth and tell you everything that was on his mind, even when he didn't want to.
"Kenny called," Levi shared. "My mom's sick again. Only this time I won't be able to come home and take care of her."
"Oh, I'm sorry," you lifted your head so you could look at his face. "But your mom will be fine, she's strong. Everyone in your family is, right? She just needs to take the right medicine and rest, like she did the other times."
"I know, (Y/N), but the other times I was there to make sure she was going to do it," Levi repeated running his fingers through his hair.
Holding his face with your hands and forcing him to look you in your eyes, you assured him, "But this time you won't. Your uncle is your mother's brother, remember? He wants to see her well too. We both know that as annoying as he can be, he knows how to be serious and take care of someone when the situation calls for it. Kenny will take good care of your mom, just ask him to update you every day on her situation so you can rest easy, okay?"
Placing his hand over yours, which was still on his cheek, Levi massaged your delicate skin and thanked you.
"So, is there anything else or do you think you can sleep now?" you asked pulling away from him.
"Tch, you speak like you weren't awake too," Levi retorted.
"That's because I was worried about you, asshole!" you defended yourself and slapped his arm playfully.
"That week you were freaking out about your project... And you were having trouble sleeping," Levi started and paused.
"What about it?" you questioned, curious why he was bringing up this old subject.
"My bed's a little bigger and you slept here. You said... It made you more comfortable," Levi concluded.
Comprehending what he wanted to request from you, you pondered about teasing him as Hange would do, but seeing how vulnerable he was at the moment, you just told him to lie down and give you space to do the same.
Lying under the large white comforter facing each other, you noticed that Levi still seemed bothered by something. You were used to sleeping next to each other when one of you was feeling unwell, but this time seemed different.
"Is there anything else you want to tell me?" you invited in a whisper.
Still observing you with a frown, Levi took a few seconds before letting out, "Everyone thinks we're dating."
You chuckled, replying, "Yeah, I know that. Hange always picks on us about it. Just ignore everyone," you shrugged.
"She also said that our displays of affection aren't platonic," Levi added.
"Yeah... Hange says a lot of things, Levi-"
"(Y/N)," he interrupted, making the smile on your face crumble when you realized how serious he seemed about the subject, "do you think I'm a burden to your love life? Do you like someone?"
"Did Hange put that in your head too? She told me the same thing these days, you know?"
"Tch, just answer... Please."
"You're not a problem for my love life, if I have to stop being your friend to get a boyfriend then I don't want one," you expressed.
Levi rolled his eyes and exemplified, "You know that's not how it works, dumbass. Do you think your boyfriend would believe that we're just best friends if he saw you lying here with me? Do you think he'd believe that if he saw the way you hug me all the time?"
Troubled by the matter, you confessed, "Well, maybe I don't care about any of that because I don't want to hug or lie next to any guy other than you!"
The sound of heavy breathing from the two of you was the only thing that could be heard inside the dorm, until Levi worked up the courage to bring his hand to your cheek and caressed it, asking, "Did you really mean that?"
Examining deep into his grayish-blue eyes, you confirmed, "Y-yes."
Offering you one of his rare smiles, Levi brought his face close to yours and placed a gentle kiss on top of your eyelid, and joked, "Tch, you idiot, I should have confessed first."
Returning the smile, you inquired, "Does that mean you've fallen in love with me too?"
"Isn't it obvious? I don't want to have moments like this with a girl other than you either."

Nothing’s Fair in Love and War
Pairing: Canon!Levi x F!Reader
Word Count: 7.2K
Warnings: SHIT. IS. SAD. YO.
A/N: this broke me. request from @swirrley but i didn’t wanna spoil it with the ask so i’ll answer that separately. i hope this is what you had in mind ^-^
Tumblr media
“So that’s it? We just… commit genocide and walk away? Hange that’s… that’s not how we do things. We’re the Scouts. We– we don’t just… kill people! That blast from Armin… it’ll snuff out hundreds of innocent lives. I know this is what Eren said but… are we really going to go through with this? How does this justify anything? How can we call ourselves any better than them if we’re just going to do the exact same thing they’ve done to us?!” You couldn’t help it. After receiving the note from Eren that night, explaining his situation, his plan, his goals, Hange had called a meeting with you, Onyokapon, Levi, Yelena and Armin the day you’d returned to Paradis. You had sat in silence, anxiously bouncing your leg, picking at your cuticles to the point the tips of your fingers were now dusted with crimson. It was only when Levi placed a subtle hand on your leg did you realise you’d even slipped back into these old habits. Only when he brushed his thumb over your knuckles did you notice the steady trickle of blood where you’d picked at your thumb just a bit too much. You threw him a grateful glance out the corner of your eye, before speaking your mind.
Hange sighed heavily, the weight of their new position had dug into their shoulders as of late, and you knew you weren’t helping by opposing their decision but… they couldn’t truly think this was the right course of action. Declaring war first, taking out the military port of Liberio, not to mention declaring war in the goddamn internment zone. That’s what made no sense. Those people were Eldians, like you were. If you wanted them on your side, murdering the majority of them wasn’t the right way to go about it. Hange had to know that.
“But if they take the Founder, we have nothing left. Think of this logically–”
“How is opposing the flat out murder of hundreds of people illogical?”
“There’s no easy way out of this. Eren has demands and has left us clear instructions. It’s Zeke’s intentions I don’t trust. Monkey bastard can’t just change sides like that. Whether he’s using Eren or Eren’s using him, I don’t care. He makes a wrong move, I’ll cut him to pieces.” Levi didn’t even raise his gaze as he all but spat out his opinion. You knew where he was, and present in this room wasn’t it. He was back at Shiganshina, decimating a line of titans to get to the Beast. Watching his friends and comrades sacrifice themselves all for him to ultimately fail in his task. You knew that day haunted him. You knew it always will. It was your turn to squeeze, bringing him back with a subtle head tilt.
‘Okay?’
‘Okay.’
“Watch your tone when talking about him. We’re only here because of Zeke’s efforts. You might want to show some gratitude.” It was the only time you saw Yelena show anything other than smug indifference, was when she was defending her fucking monkey god. Levi shot her a look that simply told her to shut the fuck up. Surprisingly, she actually listened.
Armin let out a breath, looking at the tension between Levi and Yelena, before turning back to you. He seemed to be Hange’s voice at the moment. You knew, whenever Hange gave up the mantle, it would be passed down to him. It had to be. Nobody else could do what Armin was doing right now. “It’s not ideal… but what choice do we have? If Marley gains possession of both the Attack and Founding titan, we’re all as good as dead. Think about it, this is the only way forward. If we don’t do this, Eren’s stuck, and we’ve lost. You heard them, it’s not even Eldia they have a problem with. It’s just us. The island devils.”
You hated that he was right. Hated that you now had to destroy the very town you’d just visited. The first place everyone had seen outside the walls. The first place everyone had been to, outside the walls. Those colourful stalls, those tall buildings, the festival bunting… it would all be flattened and charred. You’d done a lot as a Scout. You all had. But this… this turned your stomach. You didn’t know how Armin did it. How he was able to make such choices so easily. Though it might have had something to do with how he looked up to Erwin so much. That made sense.
You grit your teeth, letting the rest of the discussion fade away as you allow yourself to be consumed by your thoughts. And glancing to his left, Levi noticed you’d zoned out, much how he had a minute ago. You were tired. You all were. He could see the deep purple rings beneath your eyes, the fight in your spirit had been repeatedly beaten until it was nothing more than a will to survive. He predicted your movement before you’d even stood up, muttering something to Hange before you left the war room, quietly closing the door behind you. The others continued after you’d left, but one look from Hange and Levi knew he was excused. They wanted him to go after you as much as he did. “We probably won’t be back,” he murmured lowly, folding his jacket over his arm. Hange nodded again, and a pang of empathy echoed through his heart. Levi landed a hand on their shoulder. “We’ll follow you, you know that. She’ll come around, just give her some time,”
“We don’t have time, Levi. The one thing we don’t have is time.” he’d never seen them look more morose, but found no blame to pin on them. He too could feel the exhausted tensions of the Scout regiment ever since they’d lost Eren. It was suffocating. With no further words to exchange, Levi too left the war room, knowing exactly where you’d be.
Tumblr media
You knew exactly who’d found you before Levi had even announced his presence. “I’m fine, ‘Vi. I just needed to breathe for a moment.” It was a piss poor excuse, one Levi evidently saw right through as he continued to approach you. The rooftop wall was the perfect height to rest your elbows on and lean against the cool bricks, your head tilted back to track the moon’s orbit across the partly cloudy sky. Levi never felt the need to say anything in these moments, he knew you would talk to him if you needed to.
Despite being with you for a good few years now, his heart never failed to thunder in his chest when you were near, especially when you rested your head on his shoulder as he leaned his own elbows on the brick, mirroring your stance. He knew you were troubled. A swift glance at your face told him that. But he kept his silence, content to wait for you.
“Are we really going to do this?” Levi raised a brow of ‘elaborate’ as you brought your head back off his shoulder. He immediately felt the chill of your absence. “I mean, we were there two minutes ago. We were there, walking down its streets, watching Hange try to feed carrots to a car, trying to pry Sasha away from ice-cream. And we’re just… going to burn it,” he knew your point. The enemy was no longer faceless. You now knew who you were fighting. What you were fighting. It’s easier to kill titans because they’re no longer people but, now you were about to commit several war crimes against a race you’d actually interacted with. Interacted with its people, who seemed as normal as all of you. They were no longer monsters. Just people trying to survive. It sounded sickeningly familiar. “It just doesn’t sit right with me, that’s all.”
Levi sighed, gently taking your hand in his own. “You heard what the kid said. We don’t have much of a choice. It’s either them or us now.” You huffed a small laugh, looking down at your entwined hands, watching how his thumb moved across the back of yours.
“He’s nineteen, Levi. Not exactly a kid anymore. They stopped being kids the moment they saw a titan, let alone make the decision to go to war on another country. Much more than either of us had accomplished by that age.” Levi raised another, slyer brow to you, silently asking you to question that statement. “Alright fine, much more than I had accomplished by that age, then.” you nudged him with your elbow in tired playfulness, but not even this had your usual mischief. It broke him to see you like this.
Straightening up from the wall, Levi regarded you for a second, before taking your arm and guiding it to wrap around his torso, a silent prompt you’d grown to love whenever he wanted to feel you close to him and hold you against his heart. You closed your eyes, nestling your nose just below his jaw, gripping the tan leather jacket at his back and inhaling the scent of home. His hand on the back of your head sent a warm shiver down your spine, his other arm securing you in his hold around your waist.
The resulting effect was almost instant, the familiar comfort taking the weight off your chest, letting you actually breathe for the first time since you’d left Marley. The soft domesticity finally putting you at ease in the bubble of security he’d created for you.
“How are you always so warm?” you asked quietly against his neck, your lips just lightly brushing his Adam’s apple. A resulting tightening of his arms around your middle set your heart ablaze, a small, content smile pulling at your lips as you basked in his embrace. Levi felt your shift from tense apprehension to instant comfort. He never thought it possible that he could have this kind of effect on someone. Never even considered the possibility of being able to provide this kind of comfort with no words needed. But you always had your ways to surprise him.
It’s part of the reason he loved you so damn much.
“It’s all the self contained rage. Took every fibre of my self control not to break that woman’s stupid neck.” he loved your laugh. You soft little bubbles of amusement. The first time he heard it he couldn’t stop staring at you, completely lost in your expression. You didn’t even know how beautiful you were. He wasn’t great with words, but he happily reminded you every single time you forgot, with the gentlest of kisses to your forehead.
“You always were the calmer out the two of us. Doesn’t surprise me that it’s all in here,” you shifted your head out from beneath his jaw, tapping the side of his temple with your middle finger. Levi’s hand shifted from the back of your head to the side of your cheek, running his thumb along your cheekbone. There was always something in the way he looked at you. At the start, it was something Hange had to loudly point out to you before you actually noticed. It was soft. So, so damn soft. Like he was looking at the personification of his own soul. There was something reflected in who you were that sang to him, soothing the spiteful thoughts of self-hatred in his mind. Without meaning to, you’d become his rock. His anchor. His everything. Nothing mattered as long as you were alright. Nothing mastered as long as you were by his side, soothing the skeletons in his closet.
Your heart skipped a beat at the small smile of content on his face, before he wordlessly tilted your head up and brushed your lips with a featherlight kiss, just to feel the softness of your skin on his own. And you were immediately lost in the vast well of his adoration, willingly drowning yourself. Your arms slipped from around his torso to rest around his neck, pulling him closer onto your mouth, your lips moving languidly with his, his arm keeping you tight against his chest, your heartbeats synchronising with each stroke of your tongue.
And, despite the oncoming storm, you don’t think you’d ever been this happy. “Fuck the meeting,” you murmured onto his lips, your patience for politics dwindling with each second you spent wrapped up in his arms.
“Fuck the meeting.” He agreed, pulling back from you a fraction to look into your eyes, his own method of making sure you were alright. Levi had learnt how to read your eyes over the years, how they were quite literally windows into your soul. Murky, mudded, blurry windows, sure, but they had to be. You wouldn’t have made it this far if everyone could read you as well as he could. But this also meant he could see right through any façades. Any acts you performed for the sake of your comrades never worked on him, and right now, he could see how utterly exhausted you were. Exhausted of the meetings, the politics, the endless fighting.
He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t tired too. Fuck, he was tired. But he was used to fighting tired. His Underground memories were hazy at best, but he knew he spent every second fighting. And though you were stronger than most, even you had a breaking point. “Sleep?”
You never thought a single word could bring you so much joy. You borderline slouched into his chest, his shirt rubbing against your cheek as you nodded with a breathy “Yeah, sleep.”
Levi tilted your head up again with a hooked finger grazing the bottom of you chin, dipping to brush a featherlight kiss to your lips, before twining his hand in with yours, you leaning into him as you both headed back to the barracks.

“Ah shit,”
You poked your head out the doorway to your bathroom, droplets of water falling from the ends of your wet hair, raising a brow at your man standing over his desk, hands on his hips, staring as if disappointed in the top drawer.
“Ah shit?” You queried, briefly wrapping a towel around your hair and torso before joining him at the desk.
“We’re out of chamomile. Black will have to do,” you couldn’t help but find his dejected tone quite sweet. You knew black tea was his personal favourite, but the way he was so heartbroken over not having your personal favourite evening drink simply melted you.
You laughed gently, stepping up behind him to wrap your arms around his middle, resting your chin on his broad shoulder. You loved how this particular v-neck fit him, dipping low enough to show his defined collarbones, but it was a loose, comfy fit. It made him look that combination of sweet spice you loved.
“Or, and I know this may sound shocking but hear me out, we don’t have a cup of tea tonight,” You peered at him through the corner of your eye, already hearing the scoff of disgust you knew was coming.
And sure enough, Levi didn’t disappoint. “A crime of the worst kind. I’ll go harass Four Eyes, surely they’ll have some of that fancy shit left over from Liberio,”
“But you didn’t like that fancy shit, you said it tasted like toilet water…. Which begs me to ask—“
“I said I didn’t like the fancy black shit. The chamomile was fine. And no, freak, I’ve never had a drink from a fucking toilet and the fact you even felt the need to ask actively disgusts me.” You giggled madly into his neck at the faux irritation and nickname, his audible smile warming your heart as you tighten your arms around him, just as he went to move away. “No, you’ve lost hugging privileges for being so vile. Go be disgusting somewhere else.” You released him after pressing a soft kiss to the side of his neck, one he returned when he swivelled round and pressed his lips to your forehead in fleeting gratitude.
“Be nice to them, ‘Vi, they’ve had a rough few days.” You knew he’d already noticed Hange’s lack of enthusiasm recently, but there was never any harm in reminding him from time to time. With his nod of confirmation, you left Levi to procure tonight’s tea whilst you dried your hair with the towel and changed into a pair of soft, baggy sleep shorts and one of his v-neck tees. You always felt cosier in his clothing.
Now propped up against the headboard, a faded fabric bound book clasped in your hands, you indulged in an old fairytale whilst you waited for Levi’s return, though the words on the page were barely sinking in. Something about a prince selling his soul to save the one he loved, you’d gathered that much, but your mind kept wandering to the mission in a few weeks. Heading back to Liberio would have otherwise been an exciting idea, if only you weren’t there to destroy the place.
It still rubbed you wrong.
“Knock knock.” You placed your book down on your lap, laughing a quick “come in” before Levi pushed the door open with his back, slid inside, and nudged it closed with his foot.
“Did you just knock on your own door? Verbally?” It wasn’t that you needed confirmation that what just happened really did just happen. It was more that you were fishing for an explanation, still having to bite down on your bottom lip to stifle your laughter.
“I didn’t know if you were decent,” Levi looked at you as if it were the most obvious answer in the world, placing the teacup and saucer on the nightstand with a soft clink. “You could have been changing,”
“We’ve been together for six years… you’ve seen every inch of me.” There was something about his respectful chivalry that made your heart flutter. Plenty of men in the Scouts wouldn’t even consider something like that, especially after six years together.
Levi simply shrugged, knowing you needed no further elaboration as he took up his space next to you, lifting his arm on instinct to allow you to lean up against him. You looped your fingers through the handle of the teacup, before assuming your position into his side, his arm draping over you.
“Whatcha reading?”
“A book.” You refuse to look at Levi’s flat, unamused state, choosing instead to idly run your finger over the rim of the cup, fighting tooth and nail to keep your smirk from your face.
“What kind of book? Idiot.” You lost your battle with your expression, muscles crumbling into a cheeky smile.
“A fairytale, I think.”
“You think?”
“Honestly I have no idea what’s going on. I think the protagonist has just found out he has to sacrifice himself to save his lover but that’s as far as my understanding goes.” You pressed further into him, Levi threading his loose arm around your waist in response as you fell into a thoughtful silence, simultaneously raising your respective cups to your lips, savouring the flavour of chamomile on your tongue. You’d bought these leaves in the very same city you were going to destroy. It seemed ironic, in a way.
“I’d do that for you.” Levi broke the silence with his gentle confession. Well, it was less of a confession since you were already aware of the lengths he’s gone to, just to keep you safe.
“Yeah?”
“You know I would,”
You hummed a response. “Yeah. I do.” —you paused, taking another long sip of your tea— “I’d do that for you too. I’d do that for a few people, actually,”
Levi’s hold on you tightened, a subconscious protective instinct. “Mm? Who else?”
“Our squad. I’d sacrifice myself to save any of those kids,” now that was a confession. Levi knew you adored the 104th kids, and he knew they all looked up to you like some kind of surrogate older sister -he didn’t like the idea of any of them seeing you as a mother figure, because that representation for him was just too much- but he didn’t know the lengths you’d go through to protect them.
“Please, do not kill yourself protecting Connie for fuck sakes.” You barked a laugh, having to transfer your teacup to your other hand to stop the contents from spilling over.
“What’s wrong with Connie??”
“He’s an idiot.”
“You love them really.” Levi had no comeback to that, because he knew you were right. And you also knew you were right, which meant there was no way he could win that argument. Another blanket of silence draped over the two of you, another thoughtful spell broken once again by Levi’s quiet murmur.
“Was… was this my fault?” The guilt in his voice choked you, and you had to close your eyes against the pain. You knew exactly what he meant. Because it had been plaguing your mind too, ever since his disappearance.
“Eren’s… I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going through his head. He’s always been combative but— none of us thought he’d go this far.” You sat up, placing your drained teacup back on the saucer, and turned to face him. “But no. This wasn’t your fault, Vi. I know you see yourself as a—“ you paused, unsure how to phrase this as he searched your face, “guardian, for him, but you cannot blame yourself for this. For any of this.” You sat on your knees, taking his face in your hands, trying to smooth away the desperate search for reassurance in his eyes. “I found myself thinking the same. Did I somehow fuck something up when talking to him, or did I miss some glaringly obvious problem? Was this my fault somehow,”
“It wasn’t—“
“Then it wasn’t yours either.” You interrupted him, cutting him off before he could start his hypocritical tirade on why it wasn’t your fault. “We’re a team, ‘Vi. If you failed, we failed. If I didn’t fail, as you say I didn’t, then we didn’t fail. This wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t my fault either. Nobody’s to blame for this, okay?” You watched his expression relax, that guilt ridden crease in his brow eased.
“Thank you.” You smiled in response, pressing a lingering kiss to his forehead, your thumbs smoothing the darker circles beneath his eyes as he melted into your reassurance. You card your hand through his hair, the strands longer that you knew they ought to be.
“You need a haircut,”
Levi’s eyes glanced to his bangs, only now noticing how long he’d allowed them to get. But he shook his head, leaning to the side and placing his own empty teacup back on the nightstand.
“It’s too late now, we’ll do it when we get back.” You nodded in agreement, settling beneath the covers alongside him and instantly searching for your place in his arms.
Levi curled around you as you settled into his chest, your face snuggled up against his neck where you inhaled the smell of home. His arms tucked you in tight and secure against him, once again that subconscious need to protect your kicking in as you drifted into your most vulnerable state.
But you both remained awake for a while, neither certain as to why. Levi’s caressing thumb on your back never ceases, and your nuzzles against his neck didn’t stop. The silence shifted into something static, the kind of silence you knew fell before he was about to say something.
“What do we do? After this?” You knew what he meant. What the hell were you supposed to do after the war? When Marley and Eldia settled their differences and titans were no longer a threat. What the hell were you two supposed to do then? Though you smiled slightly to yourself, knowing exactly what you wanted to do.
“Tea shop. Obviously.” Rewarded with a gentle rumble of a chuckle, you tilted your head up only to meet his eyes looking down at you.
“I’m serious,”
“So am I! You think I’d go through all this trouble not to open that tea shop with you when this is all over? Everything’s riding on this tea shop. I’d die for this tea shop!”
“Okay okay, I get it. Tea shop it is.” —there was a pregnant pause, a brief second where Levi looked away— “Is that… is that all you want?” The question was posed quietly, hesitantly. So hesitant in fact that you propped yourself up on your elbow, resting your chin on your fist.
“Levi?” you’d discussed it once before. You’d dared to dream only once previously, a similar setting to this one, but something seemed different. Something seemed hopeful this time around.
“We could do it,” —he murmured, no longer looking at you, but looking wistfully past you— “We could. If we wanted to. I don’t know if I’d be any good as a father but…” He trailed off, and you had an idea as to what he was thinking. So you interrupted, gently tilting his head towards you with a hand on his cheek.
“You’re nothing like him ‘Vi. Believe me when I say that. You are nothing like him,” —you leaned into him, smiling softly against his lips in a fleeting kiss— “You’d make such a good father.” You didn’t want to mention how you already knew this through his relationship with the 104th. You didn’t want to mention how you see the way they look up to him as a role model, and a father figure for most of them. You knew it would be too much for him.
Levi kept your lips against his for a moment longer, savouring your warmth, before tucking you protectively back into his chest, his hands returning to their original positions on your back.
It took you a second to comprehend. Levi wanted a family. With you. After the war. He wanted a child, maybe two, with you. And there was nothing you could do to stop the tear sliding down your cheek.
For a split second, Levi was alarmed. Had he said something wrong? Did you hate the idea? Did it scare you? But your wet giggle pushed those doubts from his mind, easing his constricted chest.
“I cannot wait to spoil the shit out of them.” You announced tearily, causing Levi’s hands to fist in your tee, staving off his own emotions.
“If you’re anything like as bad as you are with my squad, they’re gonna be brats before they can even talk.” Levi didn’t even notice what he’d said until he mulled this conversation over later, once you were fast asleep.
Brats. Plural.
You chuckled into his chest, getting comfy again in his embrace as your eyes started to weigh down by exhaustion and the pull of sleep. “Love you ‘Vi.” Levi’s hand found a home in your hair, scratching gentle caresses against your scalp to sleep.
“Love you too, freak.”

The spattering of gunfire accompanied the short whip back up to the airship, your heart in your mouth, beating like a deep caught in lamplight. You’d prepared for their superior military prowess. You’d prepared for a fight with the Cart and the Jaw titans. But what you hadn’t prepared for, was the utter terrified panic of being caught in the crossfire. Though the mission was over, and Eren had been more or less safely recovered from the hands of the enemy, you still felt nauseous.
So many people had died. So many people. The Scouts had arrived after Eren had crushed half of the population gathered at the internment zone. The screaming could be heard throughout the city, and you could hear it from the airship. Now nothing could be heard but commanding shouts and the prattle of guns. It was a sound you knew would haunt you for the rest of your life.
But you had Eren back. And much to Levi’s dismay, Zeke.
You unhooked your anchors from the wood of the airship exterior, using the net to pull yourself up onto the deck. Most had already made it back. Only Lobov and a few others were left helping up stragglers and taking down stray gunmen. You couldn’t help but be morbidly amused by how many MPs and Garrison members had switched regiments after hearing about Eren. How their opinions had changed now they didn’t think the war was fruitless. You couldn't have thought more opposite if you tried. The world seemed so much smaller and more manageable when it was just Paradis and the titans. Now you were severely outmatched, and hedging peace on the fact that Eren could start the rumbling if he sneezed too damn hard.
You dusted yourself off as you stood, already hearing voices from the smaller room next door. Most you recognised, one you didn’t, and one that you associated with home. Tucking your Anti Personnel Gear back into the holsters, you strode across the ship, sliding the door open to the voices you heard.
Upon seeing you safe and alive at the doorway, Levi felt himself relax, his muscles unclenching despite the company he was currently keeping. Of course, you kept it professional when out in the field. Folding your arms, you stopped by his side, peering down at Eren.
“Jean was just behind me, I think Lobov and his squad are left rounding up stragglers.” You didn’t even look at him. Didn’t need to. You felt his nod next to you as your gaze narrowed to who you remembered as a young boy.
Now the centre of a war.
Your heart broke as he raised his eyes to you. You’d never seen him look so hopeless. So lifeless. But he somewhat winced at your presence, as if you’d gone to strike him. As if he was shocked you were even there. You tilted your head, mouth open with a question, before a triumphant roar cut you off. Lobov must have returned, which meant everyone was back.
You and Levi glanced at each other, a quick, silent order and confirmation.
“Back in a second.” you tapped his elbow before leaving his side, heading back out to the main deck to quieten the rowdy, over-excited Scouts. Though you almost felt bad doing so. They had a right to be relieved, those who’d survived. Technically speaking, the mission was a great success.
But the thousands of faces now stuck in endless, silent screams of horrified agony below you left a sour taste in your mouth. You couldn’t celebrate this. Entering the throng from the back, you fought past the many arms thrown in the air victoriously, finally meeting eyes with Jean a few paces in front of you. Sending him a pleading look, Jean threw you an apologetic smile, clearing his throat to silent the crowd. Or at least get them to lower their voices, when two things happened.
You’d noticed Sasha looking a little alert when you managed to spot her next to Jean, but you assumed it was simply a byproduct of the battle, adrenaline still coursing through her veins. Until a small gap opened up in the crowd, and ice spiked your blood. Your own protective instincts kicked in as you moved, feeling like you could take on the entire world yourself as you screamed the girl’s name, your voice blending with the ear-splitting crack of a gunshot.
Time froze as your body collided with her side. And for a brief moment, you thought the young girl with a fire in her eyes had missed her target, both of you would walk away unscathed.
But ripping agony through your torso tore you from your brief moment of hope, the impact sending you sprawling back, barely registering the shock of your skull against the wooden floor.
A beat hung low in the air as everyone processed what had just happened, before the room erupted.
Raged screams, vicious shouts melded with the sick thumping of fists against flesh, the hollow whomp of feet into ribs. But you could do nothing to stop it. Shock wracked your system, limbs shaking from the excess adrenaline keeping the brunt of the pain at bay. You gasped for breath, barely able to drag yourself away from the rampage, a hand on your sternum. You cracked your eyes open, your heart aching for the pre-teens who’d been caught up in a war.
They’re no different, you thought, to most of the people in this room. Far too young to understand the consequences of their actions. So easily swayed by the wills of their superiors. Cultivating hatred and fear, forcing them to fight for an agenda they would barely understand at their age.
You didn’t blame her. It wasn’t her fault.
“We should toss them out.” You recognised that weasel Floch’s voice. Glancing to that mop of red hair, you spat blood as you tried to speak up.
“Don’t you f’fucking dare… they’re– they’re kids… T’take them to Co… Commander Hange…” You struggled for breath, phlegm and blood clogging your throat as you spat again, wincing at the adrenaline dulled wound in your torso.
And it was as if the entire room had forgotten you were there. In their lust for revenge, they’d forgotten what had happened, and who now lay on the floor, staining the boards crimson. Only Sasha seemed outwardly concerned by your condition, pressing both her hands against your chest.
“We, we need bandages! Now! I’m so sorry, I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry if I had just listened to myself, I knew I’d heard something I knew I had but I just, I thought it was nothing I’m so sorry this, this is all my fault I’m so so-”
“Sasha.” the girl stopped at the sound of her name, scarlet staining your teeth as you broke into a soft smile. “Stop. You’re… you’re fine, okay? You’re okay…” Sasha nodded with conviction, pressing her hands harder against your leaking wound. You nodded gratefully to Jean as he passed you, leading the two kids to the front of the ship. His expression cracked as he paused before you, as if he couldn’t quite comprehend what he was seeing, but understood what he needed to do.
Who he needed to get.
‘Thank you’ you mouthed, too exhausted to speak anymore, your vision already beginning to swim. It was a strange feeling, bleeding out. It almost felt as if you were floating, your mind finally released from the prison of your body, free to wander and roam as the iron bars are left to rot and decay. Even as your limbs and body were moved for you, every movement felt sluggish, fluid, like it wasn’t blood in your veins, but rather liquid lead, weighing you down.
The ground beneath you grew distant, you weren’t sure whether it was because you were dying, or because someone had picked you up, but you felt your head loll backward, too heavy for your neck to carry. Colours darkened around you, scenery changed, and you were placed somewhere quiet. Away from concerned looks and distant snivels. Cloth beneath your head, wood beneath your body. You think.
Only once before had Levi’s entire world been shattered at once. Life seemed to enjoy chipping away at his walls, carefully constructed dams in constant need for repair, but the second Jean Kirstein uttered those words, he felt a void open just below his heart. The only possibility he could think of was his own mishearing, because there was no way…
Not you…
“Where is she?” someone asked, but he couldn’t focus on who, until Jean kept eye-contact and he realised it was him. He’d asked. Did he? Levi honestly couldn’t remember.
“Sasha took her to the empty side room. Captain… we don’t think she’s going to make it…” it was as if all air had been sucked from his lungs. Breathing simply wasn’t an option as he tried to compartmentalise his feelings. But it was like trying to trap a maelstrom in a music box.
The room fell into absolute silence, only to be instantly broken by hysterical laughter behind him.
That maelstrom of emotions amalgamated into one, seething, burning storm of utter furious hatred.
Levi turned, slowly, to Eren Jaeger, who had seemed to have completely lost his mind. Rattling gasps of insane hilarity burst from his chest with each wet, inhaled sob. Despite Levi being a master of composing himself, he moved too fast for anyone to intervene. Before another onslaught of laughter could fill the room, he shoved his boot through Eren’s teeth, relishing in the blood leaking from his freshly torn gums. He withdrew his foot, and kicked again, the crunch of leather cracking bone somewhat soothed his torrent of fury, but only worsened his thirst for more. Though his face betrayed nothing. Blank expression, a statue in a garden of melancholy, Levi’s face remained neutral whilst he kicked in Eren’s jaw.
He could have killed him. Would have killed him. If he hadn’t gone off on his own, if he hadn’t tried to do everything alone, if he hadn’t forced Hange’s hand, put everyone in danger, put you in danger, then…
The blows became rhythmic, almost metronome like in spacing. Eren said nothing, only taking his lumps as the crack of his shattered nose joined the cacophony of splitting bones.
“Captain Levi, sir?” it had only just occurred to him how nobody had tried to stop him. Nobody had even tried to hold him back, not even that sullen brat who always ran after Jaeger. She just stood back and looked away, wincing with each impact. It was only Sasha’s arrival that had his pause, foot lodged in Eren’s unhinged, bloodied jaw as he turned to her tear stained face. “She… she’s asking for you, sir. Mentioned something about a–a tea shop? I… I don’t know I– she–”
“Thank you, Sasha.” he wasn’t piloting his body anymore. Whoever, or whatever had taken over, he was nothing but a bystander now, watching and listening as he reacted to the things around him, his feet carrying him past the teary eyed young girl. It reminded him that you were right. They really are just kids.
Levi did his best to ignore all the sullen looks of pity as he crossed through the main deck, pausing only to address the two medics exiting your room just as he survived. They, too, didn’t look hopeful. He did his best to ignore that as well.
“Sir… she–”
“I’m aware. Thank you, soldiers. Rest now.” It was ironic, he thought, how he was providing comfort at a time where he couldn’t have been more wounded. Though they nodded gratefully and stepped out of his way.
And though he had seen you vulnerable countless times, he’d never seen you weak quite like this. The room was almost completely shrouded in darkness, only the faint glow of the main deck beyond the closed door cast a low, shadowy light against loose objects. Levi froze, having no idea how to tackle this. But for the millionth time in your shared lives, you saved him.
“What took you so long?” It was your tired smile that thrust him back into control, all at once drowning in the pulling weights of slowly losing you. Levi tried to stifle the tremor in his hands as he came to your side, lowering himself to where he could manoeuvre you into his lap. It was painstakingly slow, stopping with every pained hiss or whimper you couldn’t keep at bay, but he finally had you cradled against him, his arms encasing you in his strong hold. “You’re so… damn warm, ‘s’nice.” You pressed yourself into him as much as you could, but any strength you once had drained away, soaked in the bandages along with too much of your blood.
It was then Levi realised he wasn’t warm. Not particularly. You were just fucking freezing. And you said as much, with a meek “‘m cold…”, prompting him to unclasp his cloak from around his shoulders and tuck it around your gently trembling body.
With a final tucking of a loose strand of hair behind your ear, Levi settled down with you swaddled in his lap, thumb glossing over your frozen cheek.
“Sasha,” —he cleared his throat— “Sasha said you told her about our tea shop?” God it was all he could do to stop himself from breaking to pieces. All he could do to fight his own voice to keep it even. Steady.
It was a losing battle.
“Oh… yeah I wanted t’to… I wanted to apolo’gise. T’to you. Might have… to run the sh’shop alone now… heh, sorry ‘bout that,” a rogue tear slipped down his face, and he was thankful for the dim lighting. You were dying and that was what’s worrying you? Levi glanced down to the bandages around your middle, crimson still slowly staining the cloth. The bleeding wasn’t stopping. “Shame really… m’medics… medics said if, if we weren’t on’n the air’airship then maybe… maybe…” you trailed off, leaving Levi to fill in the rest for you. But it was too much to voice aloud. That if you weren’t on the airship, if Eren hadn't gone off on his own…
You would have survived this.
“Levi…?” His silence had prolonged too long, and though he felt like he was trying to swim with claws for hands, he managed a small smile, smoothing down your hairline.
“Mm?”
“Tell me a story,” He closed his eyes against the pain your request brought him, his heart raw and throbbing as it was slowly torn in two with each passing minute. But he gently shifted you onto your side, laying your head on the folded fabric of your cape before he lay down next to you.
The feeling was achingly familiar. Tucking your softly into his chest as if you’d just settled down for the night. When you couldn’t sleep, you’d ask him to tell you a story. You didn’t care what of, so mostly it was anecdotes from his past, expedition successes or Hange’s bathtimes. It was rare Levi would tell you something fabricated.
But now wasn’t the time for his disdain of make-believe. He knew your favourite tale like the back of his hand. Knew the twists and turns, the dialogue and characters. So with a hand on your back, keeping track of your weak breaths, he started your tale.
A small kernel of hope kindled in his chest when you corrected him after he deliberately mixed up part of the story. If he could keep your mind going then maybe, maybe you would make it back to Paradis. Maybe the medics were wrong… maybe you could survive this.
So he kept messing up, and you kept correcting him. But in his false hope, he’d forgotten about the rise and fall of your chest until it had diminished into micro-movements. And the next correction never came. Levi tried again, his voice cracking with your continued silence.
“Please…?” He knew it was fruitless, you no longer held your grip on his uniform, your fist having fallen limp in his cradle. He waited for your breath that never came, for your tired smile that refused to pull.
But he held you tighter than ever. “Wait for me,” —he pleaded to your deafened ears— “let me finish what we started, and I'll join you just, please,” Levi’s shoulders cracked with a silent sob, his fingers tangling into your limp locks.
“Wait for me.”

Tumblr media
Levi jumped, a magazine lying at his feet.
“Ivel-chan was reincarnated as a slime in this life and she will have her revenge!”
He remembered crying buckets last week when they had killed her off. So what if she was a side character? In his heart, she was brighter than the protagonist who only gave fan service these days. At least Ivel-chan had character!
The door to his room flung over. Lucifer peeked inside, his eyes glimmering with sadistic enthusiasm. The twins, who were only toddlers, rested in baby clasps, one on his back, one in the front.
“Levi, dinner has been ready for ten minutes now. Do you want to come to the table or be fed right here?”
“Eep! I-I am coming.”
༺☆༻
“Mammon, don’t play with your food. Asmo, put the mirror down. Satan, don’t glare at your food,” Lucifer chided before feeding a happy Beel.
“Levi, remember that you have to show [Name] around the neighbourhood.”
Levi groaned because he liked staying indoors, “Why do I have to do it?”
“Because their family just shifted in yesterday and [Name] is the same age as you. So as good," Lucifer put emphasis, making Levi shudder, "neighbours, we must do our duty.”
༺☆༻
Seeing you for the first time made Levi feel butterflies in his stomach. You seemed someone out of his memory but that somehow made you feel more real than ever. Every word of protest he had been repeating to himself till then disappeared.
He has had crushes before, both reel and real but it felt different this time. It was as if he knew you from somewhere, and not in a I-have-seen-you-before kind of way but in a I-know-you-well kind of way. It made him feel uncomfortable. He felt violated, as if you could see right through him. He might not be too difficult to read, given that he was nothing more than a yucky otaku but he still had some secrets he wanted to keep safe and your vibe was completely off.
“Do I know you?” you asked, feeling a knot in your stomach that you could not justify.
The idea of letting a stranger show you around a new neighbourhood made you anxious, but the feeling that dominated you right now was curiosity, and surprisingly, interest.
༺☆༻
Levi wasn't that bad. He actually did a good job showing you the places that mattered. The arcade, the stores where the best instant ramen was to be found, the aquarium, and… an anime cafe, too. The last one quite surprised you.
You started hanging out together, mostly because you had become acquainted with him a little, and he seemed fun. He held the same opinion about you and made plans together, although all of it was in his room, playing games.
It felt as if you had lived those exact moments several times with him. Every time he leaned against you during an intense gaming session and apologised, or when he offered you new ramen flavours to try, you would be hit with a memory from a time unknown.
Even though your mind was foggy, you knew that the places you pictured him in were more beautiful than your memory could produce. To add colour to mystery, he was in some sort of an angel cosplay. It all felt really bizarre but it made you think about him more than should be considered healthy.
In his turn, Levi felt guilty that he just couldn't get you out of his mind. He was supposed to be a good friend to you. Wasn't it betraying you if he was, what he believed it to be, falling in love with you?!
༺☆༻
The dreams followed soon. You could neither understand the significance nor discuss it with someone to come to a conclusion.
Those felt disconnected and unreal and you kept mixing the details in your head, not to mention the haunted look Levi had the day after you got one of the dreams.
One day, you decided to take him into your confidence. Slowly but firmly.
You said casually, “Levi, why do you look so tired today?”
He blinked and looked frightened, “Huuuu-? Me?? We-Well, there's something on my m-m-mind. I didn't know how to t-tell you this. I've been having strange dreams these days. I got one last night.”
You stopped in your tracks abruptly to turn towards him. He felt hot under your intense gaze.
“Wh-Why are you looking at m-m-me like that?”
“It’s just,” you began, extremely calm and intrigued, “I have been having dreams that I can’t explain for a while too. Maybe we should talk.”
༺☆༻
“Is this the place?” you called out to Levi after reaching the top of the hill.
The poor guy had been running to keep up with you. Presently, he sat down to rest. Once he could breathe well, he looked around.
There were a few trees scattered around. Wild grass and dandelions had spread there for a good while, lending a weathered yellow look to the place.
It was hauntingly beautiful in your eyes.
“Y-Yeah, this is the place I saw in my dr-dreams. I have been too afraid to come here alone,” Levi said, almost breathless.
The place seemed to talk to him too.
You explored the place while Levi was content with glancing around from his spot.
A sense of nostalgia washed over you. When you glanced back at him, you knew that he felt the same.
On walking around, you came across a small pond that seemed to draw you in.
That's when you saw something shining between the rocks.
After nudging the rocks aside, you found a locket there. It must have been a pretty colour once but now it was rusted and impossible to open.
You didn't know why you hid it so quickly when you heard Levi calling out for you.
Maybe you needed time to think and figure it out yourself first.
༺☆༻
You couldn't put the matter aside for later. The object seemed to call out to you so you put the controller down and turned towards Levi.
“Listen, I picked something up from that place.”
You pulled the locket out and showed it to your friend.
His eyes grew as large as saucepans, “Wh-What do you mean you just randomly picked it up? It could be bad, REALLY b-bad! We still don’t know what those dreams mean!”
You sighed and motioned it towards him, “But isn’t this better than to just speculate?”
He croaked, “The dreams make me uncomfortable… the place… I feel like I have been there before.”
You inched closer to him.
“I understand. Don't worry, I am here with you.”
He stared at you before his lips finally curved up in a smile. “Thank you. You are my true friend, my best friend even!”
Then he shrugged his shoulders, “I guess this is what a protagonist would do. Who am I to stop you? Let's see if it does anything.”
When he touched the locket in your hand, everything around grew dark.
༺☆༻
You were transported to a place beautiful beyond expectations. A strong, shaky hand wrapped around your shoulder, surprising you. A quick glance revealed that it was Levi. He was wearing pure white robes and there was a halo floating on his head. You wanted to laugh and tease him but you couldn’t move.
“I love you, [Name],” he said. The pain in his voice and the fire in his eyes took you aback. “I-I promise that I will pr-protect you in the war.”
What war?
Your mouth seemed to have a mind of its own. Your hand intertwined with his and you found yourself smiling while your veins coursed with fear. “I love you too, Levi. I will not let any harm come to you. Forever, remember?”
“Yes, fo-forever,” he spoke shyly but there was a smile on his face.
༺☆༻
The scene shifted. You were in armed combat with an extremely angry looking woman.
Damn! She was skilled. Every time she swung her spear, you thought that you were about to die, but your body moved meticulously to avoid the attacks.
“[Name], are you fine?” Levi screamed from somewhere.
The female angel raised her eyebrows and showed you a nasty smile before pointing her spear in the direction of Levi’s voice. Your eyes widened as you turned around only to find him busy commanding his army.
He would notice the spear too late! You launched yourself in front of him just before the fatal blow.
“[Name]!”
The poison flowed through your body with vigour, making you fall in and out of consciousness. Levi caught you just as you were about to give up.
With his features contorted with rage, he turned towards the female angel. She smiled triumphantly.
"SOLDIERS!" Levi bellowed. "Attack her!"
The woman got her spear ready and took charge while Levi's army flew past Levi at top speed.
The legion of angels he had been fighting looked on with hope.
The leader of the opposition commanded in a muffled tone, “Attack [Name] together while Leviathan is distracted. That way he will lose his intention to fight.”
Someone put a dagger through Levi's back but despite not understanding the source of the pain, he shielded you with his body. He prioritised you over his own life.
"Soldiers! Protect [Name]!"
It was too late. His eyes felt heavy owing to the poison in the dagger. He couldn't even see where his sworn angels were for the last time or who had been his nemesis in the end.
You both fell together. If you couldn't be alive together, then you two would be together in death.
༺☆༻
“I wish we had a normal life together. Then, we wouldn’t have had to live like outcasts,” Levi whispered when he saw you struggling to keep your eyes open. “As long as I had a chance to live with you, I was happy being an outcast. It seems that our time is up now.”
Levi cried, not because of his condition, but to see life draining from your eyes slowly. “I-I am the happiest angel that’s about to die, [Name]. I am sorry I couldn’t protect you in this life.”
A tear ran down your cheek, “I am sorry too for breaking my promise. I couldn't be with you forever. I couldn't protect you in the end either… I hope we meet again, Levi. I will love you in every lifetime.”
Your hands were intertwined, a locket in your grasp. A locket that enclosed your happiest memory together.
༺☆༻
The flashback ended and you both came back to your senses.
“Ouch!” you yelled and tried to pull your hand back. Levi had it in a tight grasp.
On seeing the fear etched on his face, you got quiet and took a deep breath. It had all felt so surreal.
“What just happened?” you murmured, the full burden of the flashback just setting in.
He looked at your entwined hands and noticed the absence of the locket. He felt a pang in his heart. He only knew that it had been important once but he didn't understand how. Surely it was no merch so why did he care so much?!
“I th-think it was the locket," he blurted out. "When we bo-both touched it, we finally saw the… the entire dream.”
A thoughtful silence filled the room.
You whispered, “I don’t think it was a dream.”
You squeezed his hand gently before looking at him with bated breath.
His lower lip quivered, “I don’t think it was a dream either.”
He turned his gaze towards you. His grip tightened, “D-Did I ever tell you that I am glad we met? I'm happy that you're not a dream. I want to keep knowing you, to make more memories with you. Will you let me?”
༺☆༻
Two people, seated in a small room, forgot the game they had been playing and instead glanced at each other at the moment. Their eyes held tenderness and the advent of new love.
The vast world danced with endless possibilities for their future. No moment was wasted as they decided their own future, unsullied by their past but still keeping their spirit alive.
It was a life they wanted and that was good enough.

Levi With Survey Corp Reader
Levi Ackerman X Reader
Requested: @gcxrtghjjuhgfvbjjj
Request: Hey can do levi ackerman x reader headcanons please 🙏
Tumblr media
⚔ Levi doesn’t notice many people but you popped up in his life on more than one occasion before he joined the survey corps. ⚔ When you started training together he took note of your abilities and you became someone he decided that he would like to work with. ⚔ Levi grew closer to you in the time that you trained together, filling in for each other's shortcomings and making friends as you went. ⚔ As you both became commanders people started calling you the mum and dad of the cadets and that only continued when Levi chose who was going to be a part of his team. ⚔ You ended up sharing a room after you found yourself walking to Levi’s whenever you had a nightmare, he’d always invite you in and you’d spend the rest of the night with him. ⚔ Even this far into your relationship you couldn’t clean the way he wanted but then again Levi couldn’t cook, so you both had your strengths. ⚔ You never went on missions with him, if you could help it because he’d always put you before himself or anyone else and that bothered you. ⚔ Levi often reminded you of everything that you needed to do, though he’d only do it once if you didn’t hear him or forgot again he’d scold you. ⚔ Hange loved when the two of you were together, you often saved them from Levi’s wrath. ⚔ When Eren and the rest showed up you were both way into your relationship and anyone could see it, you were the only one that was allowed to tell Levi that he was being an ass. ⚔ You would often be the one to tell the new starters to take a rest, Levi would storm into whatever room you were in and demand to know why you were interfering, you raise an eyebrow and tell him that working the cadets to death was not going to help humanity. He rolled his eyes and walked away grumbling. ⚔ Levi had a very involved night routine but he’ll do his best to stay out of your way when you're completing yours if you have one. ⚔ The closest you get to a pet name is a first name or nickname based on your first name. ⚔ Not into PDA on a normal day but can be convinced if he feels jealous or sees that you are uncomfortable in a situation. ⚔ We know that Levi isn’t very tall but his reputation and presence makes up for it in situations where he needed to be intimidating. ⚔ Kisses on the cheeks after missions when he finds you safe and healthy. You're usually the one who deals with his minor injuries or anything that you could. ⚔ Will watch over you to make sure that you are safe, you won’t ever know but everyone around you will. ⚔ If he’s ever awake after you fall asleep or before you wake up, he’ll admire you in a way that no one else is allowed to know. ⚔ Will refuse to be anything but the big spoon when laying in bed even if you are taller than him. ⚔ Levi actually enjoys closeness when you are both alone. For a good portion of his life he was denied it and it hardened him, it took a long time to convince him that being near you was a good thing and even now he won’t admit it out loud but he does open his arms for you at the end of the day. ⚔ He will listen to you talk for hours about your day or the mission you had just come back from, he was a good soundboard. He'd listen to everything you say but don’t expect him to agree with everything that you say. Though he’ll only give you his honest, unsarcastic opinion if he thinks that it will change something in the future. ⚔ Levi will tell you he loves you before he or you go out on a mission but honestly, he’ll never say it first past that. ⚔ You are the most important thing in his life, he doesn’t put much stock in objects or future dreams, you're here now and you are the one that he wanted to change the world for.
