These three would be AMAZING friends. All three were pioneers, frontiersmen, LITERAL TRAILBLAZERS.
He would have an absolute field day with their journals, and they would share their stories.
JUST IMAGINE IT.

Learned something trippy today~
Alexander Hamilton likely knew about the Corps of Discovery trip. They departed May 14th, 1804. Hamilton died July 12th, 1804.
Isn't it fascinating how history overlaps like that? In school, they always made it seem like it was one chapter or event, then the next, then the next. There was never a sense that these things might happen concurrently.

Been thinking really hard lately about how I've always said I was gonna write a Meriwether Lewis biography, only focus on other things besides the CORPS of Discovery. And honestly I feel like the mental health of the Lewis family in general is something other historians haven't focused on too much? We just kind of brush it off that "Oh Meriwether had depression!" But like, was there something else there that affected mental illness and resulted in this? Bc like later on his younger brother John Hastings ALSO committed suicide, showing some of the same paranoia as his older brother. Jefferson also mentions about how:
"Governor Lewis had from early life been subject to hypochondriac affections. It was a constitutional disposition and all of the nearer branches of the family of his name. While he lived with me in Washington I observed the time seasonable depressions of mind.”
So we KNOW there are other occurrences throughout the family of bouts like this.
Of course all of this could probably be easily described as simply "marrying close relatives does not work genetically."
Anyway thats my idea

me: theres just this LEVEL of codependency that i love in relationships like to the point where absolute despair is the only choice if they dont have one another. i think clark ALSO was somewhat dependent on lewis despite most interpretations, but i think he was able to lean into more traditional life during his time of society bcuz he was generally more well-liked than lewis and had less of an incline to depression and addiction. i truly believe that lewis wouldve been okay if he had more support and wasnt left to fend for himself like a wounded animal. clark had PLANS for what would happen after the expedition (a wife, children, a successful job) while its clear that lewis never knew what he wanted outside of the freedom to wander. his intelligence both encouraged him and trapped him, and he was cracking under the pressure of everything with no help. anyway do u want my nudes
