As a chinese-canadian and a long-time user of xhs (xiaohongshu/little red book) I thought it might help to have some information and gentle reminders addressing the many rules + what kinds of content you can post on the app :)

To start, there's a lot of misconception about being able to post anime content. We aren't averse to Japanese content or media- as a matter of fact, there's a pretty big anime and cosplay community, especially on xhs!

Here are some photos from my trip to suzhou! (dungeon meshi and skip to loafer content was a mythical pull lol)

With that being said, it is disrespectful and offensive to post media and content containing or associating with the glorification/apologia, themes, symbols, etc., of Japanese imperialism and involvement during WWII. This includes AOT, MHA, and many other other popular animes.

Please note that I do not support censorship: I believe that people should have the freedom to post, express, and create media on social media platforms as well as have the ability to watch different kinds of shows - but considering xhs is an app from a foreign country, it is important to contextualize its local policies through historical lens. I strongly implore non-Chinese users to research Unit 731 and the Nanjing Massacre to better understand why certain types of content from Japan are banned and blacklisted in China.

2. There are active LGBTQ+ communities on xhs- and for many queer people in China, where the country's ideologies are still pre-dominantly conservative, social media platforms is one the few safe spaces where they can express their sexuality and/or gender identity, particularly for wlw (or le). It is important to keep in mind that progress in the LGBTQ+ rights movement in the East, specifically China, is at a very different stage compared to the West; please be respectful of the fact that the Chinese LGBTQ+ community has their own culture, their own slang, and their own ways of expression in a country where LGBTQ+ people continue to face legal and social discrimination.

3. When you first create your account, you might be quite daunted by the long, long, long list of rules and community guidelines, specifically the first section, where it states, "1. Values - XiaoHongShu encourages users to post content that aligns with current positive social values. All content posted should:

Adhere to the Chinese Constitution and laws.

Practice the core socialist values. (A list of values promoted by the Chinese government, which includes: prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, the rule of law, patriotism, dedication, integrity, and friendship)

Promote patriotism, collectivism, and socialism.

Spread the correct views on history, nationality, state, and culture.

Promote the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation.

Uphold social ethics, professional ethics, family and personal virtues, and respect public order and good customs.

Promote scientific thinking and popularize scientific knowledge.

Advocate a positive, healthy, and progressive lifestyle and social trends."

No, this does not mean the content you post or interact with has to be about praising the CCP or saying, "I love communism!! 🤩". It just means you cannot be comparing Xi Jinping to W*nnie the P*oh (ifyyk).

The point is, try to avoid political discourse or criticism regarding the Chinese government on xhs, especially since xhs is a platform more akin to Pinterest or Instagram, where its more so a lighthearted place for travel tips, recipes, aesthetic fashion and makeup tips and inspiration, cosplay, cute animal videos, productive lifestyle and snapshots of simple life, etc! You can still discuss different things about Chinese culture and society, such as healthcare system, attitudes toward foreigners, income and spending, etc. But please be mindful that there are real people behind the screen; people who are not their government. I promise you, Chinese people are just as capable of poking fun, referencing brainrot, and interacting with non-Chinese people normally 💀.

Anyways, please take the time to review these rules and guidelines, especially since xhs is very strict about implementing them and can potentially lead to your account getting banned. This includes things such as:

excessive displays of wealth (be considerate of others' financial situations)

only sharing scientifically proven information/avoiding misinformation (no pseudoscience)

respecting boundaries (no nudity or sexual/sexually suggestive behavior; you can definitely show skin, but if you're making a grwm video please don't show up in your underwear - even on tiktok I never understood why influencers do that 😅)

etc, etc.

Many of the community guidelines are in line with social norms that are prominent in East Asia, which is understanding that a social media platform is a public space to be shared with others in a civil and respectful manner. And many of these guidelines refer to explicitness as a measurement - (fake) blood is fine, but gore and other such obscenities are not. You can kiss your significant other in a cute video, but you shouldn't be posting each other fornicating (this applies to both heterosexual and homosexual couples). You can swear, but you shouldn't be yelling racial slurs. Honestly, a lot of this is just common sense - xhs is supposed to be a wholesome, inspirational, and chill space!

4. Take this as an opportunity to learn about another culture, another language, and even make new friends! As long as you're civil, kind and respectful, xhs is super fun and entertaining! Of course, it's not representative of the Chinese internet space as a whole; the majority of users are women (so consider using "sis" or 姐 instead of "dude" or "bro" ). With that in mind, please be respectful in your comments - many of the women posting makeup edits or fashion videos are seeking appreciation, not sexual harassment 😅 even if a someone is posting a thirst trap, try to be tastefully humorous! If you're trying to communicate in Mandarin, I would suggest using the simplified Chinese Pinyin keyboard (QWERTY) and start learning the four different intonations of each character so you are able to sound out and type sentences using the alphabetical keyboard!

I hope this was helpful and legible, even if by a marginal amount (if this was actually incoherent, I apologize, I learned English by watching My Little Pony💀), and I hope everyone has a really fun experience on the app!

okay enough with the ship discourse! let's lighten the mood with some season 10 discussions! I'm really really excited to see the latter half of the story, and I'm super curious how this will going into next months update too! chocolate bark, and whatever second cookie that'll come in july, I cannot wait to see how things play out, the dragons have some of the most interesting lore in all of CR history (second only to the Novas hehehe my awesome space super sentai family 😄)

I actually meant to make a separate post talking about my thoughts on Season 10 of Ovenbreak, but I was always too busy to do so. Your ask gives me an excuse lol

I have LOVED this update so far. It's so great. The story is so great. Longan Dragon being 1000000000000 kilometers long and looking like an eldritch horror? Basically being Jörmungandr from Norse myth? Peak. Longan Dragon trapping everyone in some kind of mind prison and forcing them to endure constant pyschological assault? Peak. More dragon family lore? Peak. Chocolate Bark? Peak, I love him, he's so handsome and perfect, if only he was in Kingdom too

I think what I've enjoyed most so far is:

Dark Choco and Chocolate Bark backstory. I really enjoy their little mentor/student bond. CB is such a fun dude. He's tough but he's lighthearted and has a sense of humor. The way he speaks to DC is so charming, he's like a older brother or uncle almost

I think Dark Choco really needed someone like this in his life, you know? It's a big shame he left, even if it was for an important mission. It makes me wonder how differently things would've turned out if he'd stayed.

Also...

"My father" this, "my father" that. #SayHisName, Devsis lol

It's cool to get official confirmation that the Dark Cacao Kingdom exists (existed?) in Ovenbreak as well. And by extension, Dark Cacao himself exists (existed?) there too. And... he's not the most affectionate dad still lol. It's ok, he's still my favorite Ancient and Kingdom character. I am begging and pleading Devsis for more lore on this, hell give us a whole update focusing on Dark Choco PLEASE, he's been so neglected in OB and it's been a huge shame because he gets more attention in Kingdom. I love Dark Choco, I love how tragic he is, I love his redemption arc. (It's admittedly... less compelling here than it is in CRK, but that can be fixed with a Dark Choco-focused update imo)

I just really, really adore seeing the dragons interact with each other. I love their dynamic SO much, they're my favorite group in this whole series. I'm nutso about them individually and as a family/clan. It's been awesome learning more about Lychee and Longan especially; I love Lychee's unwilling attachment to Rambutan and her apparent longing for proper attention from/bonding with Longan, I love the way the Pitaya-Ananas-Lotus trio bicker and banter, THE LONGAN CHARACTER STUDY‼️‼️‼️ Pitaya may be my favorite dragon but Longan is the most complex and interesting one by far. The warped affection he feels for his family. The need to protect and govern them. The way he perceives time and the world at large. His sociopathic desire for absolute control and revenge for perceived injustices. The way he tries to manipulate the others into agreeing with him and going along with his plans (those scenes in the Dark Realm are fucking crazy. The way he warps and weaponizes their emotions and memories is actual textbook abuser/cult brainwashing shit)

What the actual fuck dude. Ok, Charles Manson lol. And I thought Shadow Milk was bad. (No lie I find Longan Dragon 10x more intimidating than Shadow Milk. He exudes an aura that SM simply does not. THIS is power. THIS is boundless knowledge sharpened into a blade and held against your throat. Shadow Milk may be a god but Longan Dragon is above even godhood. I'm way more scared of Longan than any of the Beasts)

Biggest scene for me though?

WHAT??? LAST SURVIVOR OF THE FLOWER DRAGONS??? WHAT???????????

In hindsight... yeah it was kind of obvious something was up with Lotus Dragon lol. The one flower in a group of fruits. Pretty on the nose. But it's still crazy to think about, you know? What happened to the other Flower Dragons? Why is Lotus the only one left? How did the other Fruit Dragons feel about taking her in? How did SHE feel about that, essentially being adopted by a rival clan? What if they had something to do with the Flower Dragons' demise? They better address this in the next half of the story istg. I will lose it. I WILL write a sternly worded email to Devsisters. I WILL cry

What this says about Longan's character is also quite interesting. It appears that his respect and affection for dragons actually does extend beyond his own immediate family. Enough to take in an orphan. This capacity for compassion and generosity is so unlike how Longan normally behaves. It makes for a really fascinating pivot from his usual modus operandi and adds a lot of depth to his thinking and character

(honestly, this makes me want and hope for Longan Dragon's surrender even more. I've always thought that Longan willingly standing down and ceding victory to the other dragons would be more impactful than him simply being beaten the normal way, aka through the Power of Friendship and Punching Stuff. I want Longan's love for his family to win in the end. I want him to come to realize that he really would have no choice but to eradicate his family in order to achieve his goals, and then forfeit because he could never bring himself to do it. They're the reason why he's doing any of this in the first place. I don't want him to change his mind about mortals or anything, he can stay a genocidal race supremacist lol. I just think it would be more interesting if he willingly stopped what he was doing just because he can't let go of his kin. Perhaps he truly is only clinging to an idyllic past long dead. It would hurt. Hurt his pride, his ego. But their preservation would require the destruction of his clan and he cannot stand for that. THEY are his mission. THEY are his dream. Yes, Longan will forever mourn this loss as he shall forever mourn the past itself. But at least he'll still have those four afterwards. Even if they hate him.)

i made this powerpoint in two sittings across 2 days, each sitting about 8-12 hours long

i got about 7 total hours of sleep in that time. not for each day- total. i was mad scientist delirious by the end of this

originally, i wanted to include far more- i wanted to analyze other media in depth (like the stageplays, the drama CD, komaeda's official songs, and even official art and materials) but i did not have the time for it. maybe i will make a new testament powerpoint detailing these as well as fandom analysis but that is not currently in the works

I’m not going to debate anyone on this because I no longer care about fandom discourse but I feel like I got real lost on it in the past and a lot of my takes were muddied by others + my own struggles to properly express things + I’ve just evened out on a lot of “issues”… so. Quick 2025 Rooster on South Park discourse rundown:

Fem vs masc arguments are painfully semantical with these characters 9/10 times and a lot of masc![character] vs fem![character] interpretations differ only in what each person considers to be those terms (They’re endlessly subjective after all!!!). While certain tropes and fandom trends should always be open to potential criticism and discussion whether for meta purposes or talks about representation, harassing small creators (on BOTH SIDES) is ridiculous please stop that

This isn’t solely South Park but since it’s still happening. Shipping debates are still dumb and cause endless unrest. Some of the most toxic shippers tend to be created by other toxic shippers creating them, and it’s and endless, pointless cycle. just multiship tbh it’s so much more fun guys (or block, filter tags, idk be nice???)

South Park meta endlessly makes assumptions and tends to pick and choose what it takes seriously. This is fine and good, death of the author and all that, and the analysis of even the unintentional can be extremely fun to talk about or write around! But i don’t support meta treating itself like the true “canon” or weaponized at others beyond lighthearted debates, this show is a joke at the end of the day. I don’t think this means that the shows writing or intentions are fully meaningless and generally accurate analysis can’t be made, but be reasonable. Probably treat your meta like interpretations rather than fact! Idk

Empress Review: Parable of the Sower

**TRIGGER WARNING** this book is REALLY HEAVY and there are things in it like rape, slavery, and murder. Read at your own discretion. Your opinions are your own, comments open for discourse and discussion but please be respectful!

Rating: 8/10

This is my first review on the blog, and it is a big one. People online have recently been talking about this book a lot, saying how important it is to read in our current times, etc etc. However i did buy this book probably two or three years ago after reading a different Octavia Butler book (Dawn) and just haven't picked it up.

To start, this book is WILD. We follow a 15-year old Lauren Olamina as she navigates her life in a walled community in an anarchist version of the suburbs of LA. It's set in 2024 (yikes!) and imagines a future where basic things like food and water are extremely expensive and everyone owns a gun inside the walls.

Lauren initially deals with disagreements with her father and eventually an eroding of her family structure. The rest of the book follows her as she starts a new life, and writes verses to a new religion called Earthseed.

Overall, this novel is a great read. It's well paced, written bluntly but with Butler's signature style, and there was never a moment where I wasn't on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens on the next page. HOWEVER. If you are a sensitive reader or someone who gets triggered easily, I don't think this book is for you. Butler makes things like rape and murder commonplace and describes them in such a casual, passing way as to immerse you in the way the characters feel. What i mean by that is, the characters have been exposed to these things for so long that they don't feel anything from them anymore, and they're just normal everyday occurrences.

The worldbuilding of this book, actually the worldbuilding of most any Octavia Butler book, is exquisite, and also very apt for the times we live in, if a little exaggerated. Working-age adults with college degrees struggle to find jobs that pay, older retirees are the only people who own homes (that they live in with their sons, daughters, and grandchildren), and climate change is ravaging a deteriorating America. Butler predicted, with remarkable accuracy, a future which we are rapidly approaching.

I think this book is a great read, though not exactly lighthearted or fun. It's a serious book, which gave Butler serious burnout after she finished it, and it is incredibly dark. The book is also getting banned in schools, even though its pertinence to our lives is only getting more and more clear as time goes on. I'd say read the book if you're prepared to, and maybe start with a different one of Butler's novels even if this is her bestselling work, so you get a feel for her writing. The one thing I will say is that Lauren has a lot of similarities in the way she acts and talks to the main character from Dawn, Lillith. In my opinion it doesn't take away from either one of these books, especially not with the quick-paced, in your face writing of Parable of the Sower.

I enjoyed this book a lot and hope that everyone gives it a chance!

Talking a bit about Jon Sims Care :]

Seeing as this is now kinda what I'm known for I wanted to make a pinned post just talking about it a bit

First off, out of universe things!

To me this thing is still a bit that got out of hand, but you can totally also call it an AU since it has gotten a bit big lmao

The official tag for this thing is #jon sims care! Keep asks and tags coming! It's genuinely the highlight of my day when I get an ask about this and I get to expand the world of Joncreatures just a bit further, or when you guys share your great ideas in universe. Fanwork also! On that note, I'm not an arbiter of truth! Make shit up and have fun with it! I like this more as a community worldbuilding thing And probably the most important bit, please don't take any of this seriously lol. I've made posts before complaining about fandom discourse, and this is the last place I want it. Please keep it fun and lighthearted for everyone. I don't wanna have to be serious on this post but I did wanna mention it. Back to fun stuff, and more of a fun fact, the drawings of the Joncreature are actually inspired by my weird looking rabbit, Brownie!

In universe things!

Thinking of getting a Jon? Great! This is what you should know:

Most Jons take a long time to warm up to new environments and owners, you're not a failure if it's been a month and your Jon is still putting off the occasional threat display towards you. Just make sure you're giving him his space and keeping his space maintained! Jons need a lot of space to roam. I personally recommend jonproofing your house and yard, and if you have the option, giving him is own room to retreat to. They certainly like their alone time! Toys/play that almost all Jons enjoy are things like tape recorders, tunnels, hole digging, reading, chasing feather toys, and beholding! Make sure to incorporate playtime into your routine! Jons love chewing on anything with information! This can be cassettes, papers, books, phones, or even laptops! Rules and Guidelines

In an attempt to keep this blog fun and lighthearted, here are some guidelines to help you out, and Rule to keep things cool

Guidelines (Or Steps to Submissions)

Note: The submission form should hopefully be easy enough to walk through as well.

Step 1) Identify your Blorbo: This includes Name and what Media they are from. If multimedia, no need to list everything, just the franchise. (i.e. Black Widow from the Marvel franchise)

Step 2) Present your Propaganda: This can be any (respectful) reasoning at all, can be as short as a single word or as long as a master's thesis (though I may paraphrase if it is super long), or can be left completely blank. (If it is left blank, I may have some fun of my own and make up some propaganda. If you really want to leave the audience to think for themselves, tell me so! I'll leave it blank)

Step 3) Identify Yourself!!!: Or don't! This step is if you want to be associated with the submission and tagged, and completely optional. If you think the world is not ready for your big brained thoughts, and do not wish to receive backlash from the unenlightened, simply leave the question blank.

Step 4) Present Additional Notes: Also optional, but this is for anything you want to add. For example, I will default to transitioning your blorbo into a man with He/Him pronouns, but if you wish your blorbo to be a different identity or have different pronouns, here is where you would tell me. (Disclaimer: Some notes may not be accepted if they are disrespectful, NSFW, particularly political, etc. Please use discretion)

Rules

Rule 1) No canonically Transfeminine characters: Testosterone could not have saved her. It made her dysphoric. Not to mention, transfeminine people have very very little decent representation, and we don't want to detransition the rep they do have. We love our trans sisters and siblings <3

"Rule" 2) Canonically Transmasculine Character welcome!!: These posts may look a little different, given Testosterone has already saved him, but we are always on the lookout for good transmasc representation, and I would love to showcase them here!

Rule 3) No Real People: Speculating the identities of real people has a bad history, from outing people before they are ready, to entitlement from fans, I refuse to participate in these behaviors.

"Rule" 3.5) Fictionalized Depictions of Real People are Conditional: There is a difference between Submitting Hamilton from the musical, and Jeffery Dahmer from the Netflix series, for example. So submitting fictionalized real people may be touch and go. Generally, it depends on Time-distance, morality, if the real person is (and/or their possible victims are) still alive, etc. Your submission may be deleted based on my discretion. I'm sorry, but feel free to submit someone else!

Rule 4) No Discourse: The topic of transmasculinity in fandom is a touchy subject at times, especially when it comes to headcanoning female characters as transmasculine, given this can be seen as "taking rep away from women." This blog is not the place to debate this, especially since this talking point reflects anti-transmasculine Terf rhetoric that we are "lost women/lost lesbians." Comments along these lines will be deleted, especially if they express anti-transmasculine beliefs.

Rule 5) No Bigotry of any kind: Self explanatory, and will result in an immediate block/deletion of submission. This includes Zionism

Rule 6) No gratuitous NSFW: This is mainly for submissions. Discussions of a character's sexuality is fine, but nothing super explicit please.

Rule 7) Have fun: Don't take this blog too seriously. I'm just trying to have a good time here and experience that good old fashioned fandom silliness. I'm sure you are too.
