I’ve been reminded that the reverse robins trope exists

The one where Damian has custody of Dick (reverse robins au)

I think it’s even better if most of the world doesn’t realize there are other Gotham vigilantes. Somehow, they’ve all stayed under the radar, but Robin is the one who goes out with Batman once he joins the Justice League. The others aren’t really interested in joining or even meeting them. They’re fine doing their own thing in Gotham & Blüdhaven.

But Bruce wasn’t actually around when Dick became part of the Wayne family. He’d been lost in time or whatever, and it was Damian who was at the circus that night. It was Damian who saw the Graysons fall. It was Damian who rushed to a tiny, frozen little boy who was kneeling in his parents’ blood and wrapped him in his coat, pulling him away and hiding his face in his shoulder.

Alfred thought the circus would maybe help Damian relax after all the pressure from taking over the Batman mantle. Give him something to smile about.

Instead, Damian gets in the car that night with a traumatized little boy, police and ambulance lights flickering from outside, and he looks Alfred dead in the eyes and says, “Congratulations. You’ve turned me into my father. The Commissioner and an agent from Child Protective Services will be stopping by the manor in about two hours.”

Alfred isn’t even all that surprised.

Damian adopts Dick immediately. He doesn’t want Dick to feel like his place in the manor is uncertain, like his place in the family isn’t permanent. He’s one of them now. He’s a Wayne.

Dick even agrees to hyphenate his last name when he sees how much Damian is fighting for him, when he hears him yell at the cops and the CPS people who call him a dirty gypsy and try to convince Damian to throw Dick in juvie, insinuating that Dick probably already stole valuables from the manor.

Nevermind the fact that Dick has barely moved or spoken a word in three weeks following his parents’ deaths.

Aside from sneaking out at night to interrogate criminals on Tony Zucco and what they know about him. But Batman finds him and foils his plans every night, bringing him back to his room at the manor.

It takes Dick less than two weeks to figure out it’s Damian behind the cowl. Damian is actually impressed, and he eventually agrees to train Dick to join the bats.

Tim thinks it’s an awful idea. But Tim and Damian clash with most things, so Damian considers his opinion invalid. Jason just thinks it’s funny that the kid wants his costume to have shorts.

And after a couple months of intense training, Robin is seen on the streets of Gotham beside Batman.

But then Bruce comes back, and he takes over the Batman mantle again, and Damian goes back to being Nightwing. Dick wants to stay Damian’s partner, he doesn’t know Bruce that well, he wants to stay with his Baba. But Bruce insists that he take over training Dick, and that since the public outside of Gotham became aware of Batman and Robin due to a high profile case, that Robin has to stay Batman’s partner.

Damian convinces Dick that it’s alright, because Damian is still going to be his Baba. They’re still going to live together in the penthouse. He doesn’t have to move, he doesn’t have to start calling Bruce dad, “none of the others do, anyway. Besides, you’re still my son. You’re still my Robin.”

So Dick continues going out on patrol with Batman, even if he insists to Damian that, “he’s not my Batman. You’re my Batman.”

Damian only ever lets Dick see how happy that makes him. He has a reputation to keep up, after all.

It’s Damian who agrees to let Dick join the Young Justice team. It’s Damian who gives permission for missions and training.

It’s Damian who uses an override code to enter Mount Justice when Dick is long overdue to be home from “a simple training exercise” that Bruce planned.

It’s Damian who finds his son limp on a stone slab, stuck in a psychic simulation.

It’s Damian who holds Dick’s hands and whispers in his ear that he’s alright, it’s not real, he needs to come back now when Dick is the only one who doesn’t wake up right away once M’gann loses her psychic grip on the simulation.

And when Dick shoots up, brow covered in sweat, breathing so labored that Damian is afraid he’s going to pass right back out, he just continues holding him and whispering to him that it’s alright, everything is alright, Baba’s here now. And Dick clings to him, holding on so tight his knuckles turn white, whispering into Damian’s chest that he thought Damian had died, he thought everyone died. I saw it, I saw them zap you, you were all just gone.

(As a side note, I don’t think this Bruce would want to be called Grandpa. It makes him feel too old. Bruce is supposed to be Jewish, right? Let’s have him go by Saba.)

And Damian is livid. Because how dare his father make his son live through what is essentially his worst nightmare. He snaps his head towards Bruce and seethes, “I told you no psychic simulations.”

“Saba said you agreed.”

The catch in his voice damn near breaks Damian’s heart. But it only serves to make him that much angrier with Bruce.

“You what?” He snaps at Bruce. “You told him I did what?”

“It was perfectly safe,” Bruce tries to reason with him.

“Clearly it was not!” Damian bites back. “I heard what the Martian said, Robin’s mind thought he was dead! Your ridiculous training exercise could have killed him!”

“He was perfectly safe. There was no real danger.”

“Stop,” Damian says, his voice perfectly calm. He tugs Dick close to him, as if letting him go would make him disappear into thin air. “Just stop.”

“Nightwing-“

“This is not the first time you’ve ignored my boundaries for him,” Damian tells him. “He is my son. He was my Robin before he was ever yours. And yet you stomp all over my limits for him time and time again. He is thirteen, he is not a soldier.”

He stands up, still holding Dick close, keeping an arm tight around his shoulders. As they pass by Bruce, Damian tells him in a final hiss, “Batman and Robin are done.”

“You’re being unreasonable,” Bruce barks at him.

“And you are being like Ra’s al Ghul,” Damian hisses back, tightening his grip on Dick’s shoulder. “Count yourself lucky I’m not keeping you from your grandson entirely.”

Damian moves to leave, but Dick tugs at his arm and whispers, “Wait, wait Baba, wait,” then he throws himself at Bruce, hugging him tight. Bruce kneels down to hug him back, and maybe he finally realizes how much he fucked up when Dick whispers to him, “I’m glad you’re not really dead.”

But then as quick as he was to hug Bruce, he’s quick to let go and mutter, “Bye, Saba.”

Bruce just runs a hand through Dick’s hair before he can fully pull away, and he says back in a gentle tone, “Bye, Robin. Be good.”

Dick gives him a little smile and wave before attaching himself back to Damian’s side.

Idk I just want Damian being a protective dad and Bruce realizing he was kind of a shitty grandpa.

My impressions and other ideas on chapter 27

Ok, while chapter 27 isn't up on Mangadex yet (I always really appreciate translation work, so I'll be eagerly awaiting that translation), and I've made every attempt to stay away from spoilers (which includes limiting my access to Twitter, Instagram, and others), I think I can't stay in my bunker anymore, so I'll leave my impressions of chapter 27 (which I read in Spanish) before I have any information about the new chapter that could affect this.  I'll leave it under the cut so as not to make spoilers to anyone.

And we're one chapter closer to Hirano realizing it! I have full hopes that it will happen this 2025 with the monthly updates :)

So Ichinose went to see dorm manager? 

I love that he immediately knows that Hirano admires and appreciates Kagi so much, and that he sees him bragging about how awesome her still, not-boyfriend is. 

Could Ichinose be the one giving Hirano some clues?I've always thought it would be Sasaki, but Ichinose has been taking on an unusual importance in recent chapters, so I think he can be a help or ally for our protagonists, even if he doesn't live in the dorm anymore since it seems he'll be hanging around quite a lot (although we don't know if the reason he frequents the dorm are reciprocal).

Kagiura sempai aaahhh!!!! He's so cute! Now my poor boy is really busy, with endless practices and having to take care of the first-years…

It was something he said he would do when he agreed to continue being in the same room as Hirano, but despite what could be considered a problem because of the overload of tasks, it seems to be working in his favor since Hirano is finally realizing that his presence is important to him (not very consciously, but that's something).

And Hirano is definitely lonely now! My poor sweet kitty boy is resenting the lack of Kagiura in his days!

and it's not the first time he's been told that! 

He'll remember when his classmates told him? He's definitely been missing Kagi and hasn't even really realized how much he misses him

And if the translation I found is correct, Kagi will be going on a basketball trip...And if so now Hirano will really be lonely! Will he get to feel a bit of what Kagi felt when he mentions that even on weekends when Hirano is gone, the time feels endless?

I guess they'll be glued to their phones for all the free time they have! Will this give Hirano a new perspective on how much he really enjoys and looks forward to being with Kagi?

Hanzawa snuggled up to Hirano... you can tell they're close friends (I love that they are), but Kagi will definitely want to erase any trace of another boy from her Hirano-san. And while Kagi knows that Hanzawa's cozying up isn't even remotely romantic, it still bothers him, and that's why he acts so reckless

Because what happened to being careful?

He immediately remembered Yashiro (I don't trust that guy) saying that Hanzawa doesn't accept homosexual relations, then he should also remember that it's not convenient to do anything outside his bedroom.

So what the heck are you saying Kagi!!!!

The clifhanger! I don't know if he can hug him, I don't know if Hirano will let him hug him since they are outside the bedroom and anyone can come in. And because I don't know if Hirano wants him to hug him. My impression is that maybe he won't allow it, but that's not a private place for them to have one of their usual loud fights, so I don't know if he wants to argue there, but maybe he will agree to hug Kagi in the bedroom, and there he will be the one hugging Kagi, it would be a nice change of pace for Hirano to be the one who comes closer, who seeks contact and starts to be more aware that he enjoys those moments.

And maybe this hug is indeed wanted, and if it does make him feel comfortable since it wouldn't take him by surprise like the one in the infirmary, then if his heart started pounding he could no longer attribute it to surprise... Maybe it's what Miyano was saying about being hugged by a tall puppy dog seme and he starts to think wow this is love? 

Maybe this will help him understand the differences between friendly touches and Kagi's? 

That he can make the parallel between how Hanzawa approaches him v/s Kagi's approaches and that he can finally understand that they are different touches?

I still don't believe that the whole mess in Hirano's head will be resolved in a couple of chapters, but I'm sure that each of these experiences is helping him understand his view of love, and hopefully, understand that those feelings he has for Kagi can be love.

And on a very off topic topic, I love the way Hirano dresses! Even his overalls I love, he looks gorgeous in almost all of his clothes!

I die! They're talking about the middle school uniform!, Is that the one he ends up wearing at the sports festival where Sasaki confesses... the one Miyano is thankful to see? (Although it's much longer at the sports festival).

I'm so enjoying seeing these scenes from Hirano's perspective! Seeing what Hirano was going through, when in ssmy we would have never guessed the mess he had in his head I love it!

But back to the uniform: how would the athletic club uniform have been???? I feel the same way as Kagi I NEED to see Hirano in his track uniform... Please, please, please, please! I can't wait to see Hirano in middle school, with his black hair and bad boy face dressed for track and field competitions! I think both Kagi and us will die if we don't see him (and also if we do see him). 

And speaking of Hirano's photos, is that a date for the summer!! 

Kagiura meeting her future in-laws? If this were to happen, I'm sure Hirano's mom will notice right away that something is going on between her only son and that ikemen roommate who keeps looking at him with dreamy eyes. Will she be okay with the relationship? 

I have thought about this before, I have the impression that Hirano won't have many problems with his family since he seems to be quite independent (although only son...), but I don't know if in Kagi's case his family will be so flexible with his brilliant athlete, handsome and now applied son (he moved up 121 places, his parents must know that he is now having better grades), being in a relationship that could affect his dreams and future career. And above all, that he would not follow the Kagiura's habit, which seems to be to have large families.

I don't know, I'd love it if the manga could also deal with that aspect in a deeper way. In ssmy it was pretty casual miyano's coming out of the closet, and in Sasaki's case, just a cross word with his mother so I'd like to see what this step would mean for KGHR.

I've been losing a fistfight to mental illness lately but am making progress:

-Bethany's sin review is in progress! I don't think it'll be very long (atm I'm 2k in, my guess would be 6k length, so half an hour?) but who knows.

-my fallen london lore vid (part 1) is MOSTLY done. The main issue is deciding when to call it finished— a lot of admin choices about how much info to give when, what order stuff should be in, etc. I want to strike a balance between spoilers and cool info— "if I wanted to tell a pal about FL, how much lore would I spoil to intrigue them?" Stuff like the Masters being capitalist space bats is technically a big spoiler, but also a huge draw to get peopleto check the game out! Later I hope to do a part 2, part 3 and actually get in depth on the more esoteric aspects of the world, but I want this to be a layman's introduction.

-after these, I still do not have a next book/series picked out. I have so many options and suggestions.... my instinct though is that it is time I read The Cage, aka That YA Book Trilogy About A Human Zoo. That sounds fun.

I don't remember if I've said it anywhere but I don't mind repeating it if I have. To make all my comics, I use Procreate, Photoshop (you may boo), and blender.

Process is as such: I get the thumbnail (I usually do these in advance, not the entire chapter at once but I'm usually 30-40 pages ahead in terms of thumbnails) then put it in a new procreate document. then if there's weird backgrounds (cities, indoor, etc.) or weird robot-y hard angle things (so far, just the hoverbike) i either make or use a 3d model i've already made and just trace it. (i have an arthur model for scale but i try not to trace it directly bc it's.. not a great model lol. sometimes i'm lazy though.)

then i do lineart + colors + shading + etc directly on top of that (no additional sketching generally, unless the pose is giving me trouble). basically all of the artwork in the pages is done in procreate.

then i chuck it all in photoshop to do some final touch ups, blur stuff (sometimes done in procreate but not always), and do the text. i use adobe fonts i get through my school for most of the text, and then i draw in all my font bubbles + sfx by hand and slap a stroke modifier on them for the outline.

then, ta-da! comic page.

I wish people talked more about how disabling LSN/L1/high functioning whatever you want to call it autism can be.

- basic stuff like eating and showering is hit or miss

- more advanced stuff like doctor, mechanic, fix furnace ... some hit mostly miss

- missing crucial social skills

- crushing loneliness due to above

- limited participation in the world due to sensory overload and lack of skills

- (e.g., I want to go to this event in town but it's going to be loud, I don't know anyone there, and I can't handle that).

- easy to get taken advantage of because I don't always know when people are being inappropriate

- (how know the difference between creepy touching and normal touching when all touching feels bad?)

- covered in self injury bruises and scratches from sensory overload and meltdowns

- no friends, no family I'm close with, never been on a real date, barely would know how to do those things

- no support. none. support would have to come from friends or family and I have none.

- there is nowhere to ask for help. my struggles are dismissed as "you're just different and that's ok!!" or "no you have superpowers:)))".

I have a full time job, live alone (shouldn't but have to), and pay bills like a good capitalism. Maybe your ability to make money is not a great measure of how impaired you are?
