All the music you didn’t hear: The Good Omens soundtrack is lying to you. *Part 1*

The Bonkers Meta Series part 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I so rarely get a chance to misuse my experience in classical music, but here we are. When I realized on my most recent watch-through of the series that the David Arnold score was brilliant, but also really wonky in some parts and I couldn’t put my finger on why, @embracing-the-ineffable suggested I listen to the album soundtrack to compare.

And when I tell you what I found hidden in there, you’re going to need Eccles cakes...

1) The Song is the Clue

So right up top we have this banger. The 12th track on the album is the orchestral backdrop to the scene in the Job minisode where Aziraphale reveals Crowley’s crow/goats. The duration is 2:22 (the only track with multiples on the album), and if you look at the track by itself it doesn’t mean much. But the song just before it is actually from this fucking scene:

You know, the one where there’s a song that’s a clue to a mystery. Except Clue is capitalised, and Aziraphale pronounces it. I’ve seen guesses that this is a reference to the movie Clue, but I would put a lot of money on the fact that we are supposed to read the title of the song currently playing at that moment in the show *as a Clue*, which is super convenient, because the word Clue is capitalized in the track listing. 

Seems like the overlords of Good Omens have a message for us : The song is the Clue. It’s what God wants. Cool cool cool. WHAT SONG?

2) Symmetry in all things 

Before I straight up tell you, we have to go back and look at season 1.

Now I’m far from the first to notice tons of parallels between the story, details and even lines in both seasons. It got me thinking that maybe there are some fun synch-up parallels between the two season’s soundtracks, seeing as they are both 6 episodes long. Here’s the end of S1 and then S2

Oh that’s a bummer, I thought to myself. 

They don’t even add up to the same number, or playtime, and neither of them is exactly 60 tracks. But do you want to hear a secret? S2 is actually missing 3 tracks on the album. And because there are 2 discs in S2 (cute), the numbers of the tracks start over again from 1. Remember how much God likes sevens? Check out where all the weirdness is happening in disc 2 (I’ve added the missing track listings in red to add context):

After checking each track with the show and listening side by side (for reasons that will become clear in another post) I can definitively say that there is something *very weird* going on at the end of episode 4. 

First is track 7, Zombie dressing room, which seems to actually reach over two distinct scenes of the photo evidence in the dressing room and then Shax in hell even though it only has one title.

But *between* these two scenes we get an eerily silent wine date with Aziraphale & Crowley.

There’s really no music or even sound here besides the dialogue and room tone (until after the cheers), and it seems like a very intentionally silent version of a ritz date from season 1.

My best guess is that we are supposed to divide that track into two tracks of 7, before and after the date to get a second track 7. Or maybe the silent one is missing music? The third track number 7 is the weirdest one. It’s this scene here, when Nina parks her bike, and Aziraphale parks the car at the end of S2E4.

If you take a close listen to the music, it’s a jaunty little piece, with an oom-pah base in 3 ⁄ 4 time. The thing is, this music does not exist in any Good Omens album. Please feel free to correct me, but I’ve tried to find any part of any song that this could even be a reprise of, and I Shazammed it to be sure it wasn’t anything else. This song does not exist anywhere except in this scene. (It quickly morphs into a reprise of the original theme once Nina leaves Aziraphale). It’s an invisible song.

So we have 3 tracks at the end of S2E4: a long one, a silent one and an invisible one. Only one of which is numbered 7, but that all fit into that place in the track listing.

Which, when we add the two extras to the original total of fifty-nine we get... sixty-one! Hey wait a minute.

How are we going to get to 62?

3) The real missing track. 

So the real reason we had to go back to the S1 album was because it contains the missing track that God is talking about. Let’s compare the last tracks on each album.

I’ve highlighted the mismatch between the in-show music and the album in S2, which means I had to add A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square back into the S2 album because guess what, it’s not in the S2 album. Even though it plays in the show. 

You want to know how not in the album it is? Amazon had to track it in the show as a season 1 song. They had to give Tori Amos credit for her song on Good Omens in the X-ray bonus features because that’s how not in the album this song is.

So my fellow beings, if the song is the Clue, then It’s what God Wants.

And if God wants a happily ever after with Aziraphale and Crowley on their own side, then by Job, I think Neil is going to give it to her.

Somebody Else’s Arms : Timeline + Analysis ✍🏻 and a tiny bit of clowning…

as what the title of this post says, let’s talk about this song and everything that goes with it. i didn’t expect him to actually do something like this but i’m not mad about it. there were already some rumors about it before the release, which personally didn’t come by my weibo feed so as soon as the poster teaser was out, everyone had their own thoughts:

1. It might be related to intercross, because of the water imagery and angsty title.

2. It’s a song he bought and at the time people were pointing to an existing track by cool heads prevail. and others were saying it may just be the same name.

3. some cpfs getting nervous cause it seems to be a breakup song, as if you all didn’t know he and xz love bittersweet songs!

4. connected to #2 cause a cpf station sister commented on this song before we knew anything like she had an idea that this will be performed all along.

AND NOW THAT THE WE HAVE LISTENED TO IT, it is a completely different one from the track people were referring to. oh well. rumors are rumors.

yibo-official first released the teaser for it at 16:00 which to me relates to the “fact” that 16 is bobo’s favorite number. also the play on words and how they associate with each other is so interesting SEA = somebody else’s arms then using that as an overall theme like deep in the sea. not to be that person — but it’s so xiao zhan.

then the hair reminded people of his style @ tencent starlight in 2019 with xz. but i have to say, when the douyin video was released, it made more sense because of the 80s vibe he ( along with other yh family stars ) was going for. the clothes and the hair definitely complete the look. i mean come on, he already had the vincent vega hair.

i can only find information on this songwriter, so i guess it’s true that he bought it. the lyrics is actually giving ghost by justin bieber which is a personal fave. it’s like acknowledging you love someone but they are gone now. also it’s interesting that he chose an english song! i’m gonna be a totally delusional fan here and think that this is because he is becoming more and more popular with the international stage so he chose this to connect more.

the choreography is also by his fave Franklin Yu who also did the dance for Rules of My World and Burn It All Down. backed up by Made in V which is a usual group that collaborates with him and XZ. 💚❤️

i think we are all surprised cause it’s in ENGLISH. like i understand if the chorus is, but as a whole. wow.

the lyrics are so heartbreaking 💔 and as i said, something we know will appeal to yibo. and as an artist, or any kind of creative i feel like this kind of emotion connects well to the audience. it’s the perfect choice! but that doesn’t mean it don’t hurt!

i know there might be some part of the fandom who will look at this and be like — oh they broke up! “see how sad his face was performing?!” and well.. dude, he is performing this song and singing those lyrics.. what should he do? smile? lol. his dance is an interpretation of it, did you see that bit where he was alone and everyone had partners? In the meantime he was all alone and cradling no one 😭😭😭

it’s a performance. no matter how much we think everything has a personal connection.

KAYLORS I JUST DECIPHERED THE PR MESSAGES FROM PRESENT 🎁 ANON AND AM NOW VERY CERTAIN THEY’RE LEGIT TOO. So we started receiving these very interesting anon messages exactly 2 months before the release of TTPD (release was 4/19)

We were told to keep our eyes peeled for a present or gift we would be receiving and well we got it

There are P's and R's repeated in the messages. "The hint is in the words." P = PETER. R = ROBIN. Those songs are a gift to us kaylors. They're separated by just one song, the Bolter (which I'm 99% sure is related to the 8th 🎃 message bc Taylor almost drowns and a bolter is a coward which was the main point of the message); and Taylor mentions CPR in So Long, London which means they're all related. Bc Cassandra = Taylor, Peter = her second kid, Robin, = her first kid. They're related bc they're a family. I think it's possible those are the actual names of her two kids

"This is not the manuscript" i.e. the manuscript (closing track) is not the gift, it's the songs right before it! Robin is the 2nd to last song, Peter the 4th to last, and Cassandra the 5th to last. "It has been hidden well, look where the above may find you." They can be found in the track titles themselves. "Plausible deniability. Think of the one we continue to revisit"--K and T have plausible deniability since everyone thinks those are JK's kids. BUT "the volcano will soon rupture, whoever is to defame" which means that one day all the truth will come spilling out regardless of the defamation that will happen. "Restful, reticent, restraint. And PUBLISH!"--perhaps a tell-all memoir??

"The predecessor was the crumb" in other words peace "I'd give you my wild, give you a child" (see this post) was just a faint hint but now she's getting really close to revealing everything which is what the volcano 🌋 represents! THE DANDELIONS IN THE ROBIN LYRIC VID. Robin is the single dandelion floret (secret) she was so worried abt sending into someone else’s yard in the 7th 🎃 message (see this post). She was afraid that sending this song out into the world could expose the truth she’s worked so hard to protect before she’s ready but she did it anyway. “Once you blow a dandelion, you never get it back. It isn’t yours anymore.” “But the story isn’t mine anymore.” 🎃 mentions how the recipient of the dandelion would also blow and spread the florets which might mean kaylors would catch on and spread the secret. The 8th message also mentions a dandelion that the enemy has and spreads but I’m not yet sure who this person is—also this person could be the “recipient” and not kaylors but I’m not sure. And I’m not sure if this means they’d like us to kinda keep this to ourselves and not use Robin as a gotcha since it’s meant to be more of a seed planted for future use (no pun intended). But it definitely seems like they aren’t ready to reveal everything just yet

"As the neighbor holds the lamp to witness her Goodbye" = "Now you're in my backyard turned into good neighbors" and "But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light"

"Reach those lanterns a little bit higher for you shall receive a metaphor so dire"--a jack-o-lantern like pumpkin anon? These metaphorical messages will help us to understand K and T's entire complicated situation?

"When I cannot see words curling like rings of smoke round me"--"breath of fresh air through smoke rings." Haven't quite figured out what this part means yet but it reminds me of blowing smoke which means to deliberately confuse or deceive (lavender haze mv)

This is as far as I've gotten w decoding the messages. This all adds a lot of context to those 🎃 messages and makes them a little more clear. There’s definitely more clues in there we have yet to decipher so pls share your thoughts

ulterior motives: an unnecessarily elaborate guide & review

okay literally no one asked for this but here is my full synopsis of the ulterior motives album. i wish more secret time capsule-ish albums from past decades would be released so i can start doing this type of thing more often

🐬 disclaimer: i think only like two? three? people who follow me are (currently.....) interested in this as far as i'm aware. therefore it's going to be sooooo self indulgent and tbh partially just for my own satisfaction <3 but hopefully someone will find it useful/enjoyable/etc.!! also it's super long but like...idk it's a Review. also if ur interested but otherwise have no clue what this is about, i'm putting some useful links at the veeeery bottom :-)

🐠 relevant introductory notes: im not rlly a lostwave person actually. like as a concept i think it's very cool, but this is litcherally the only one i've come across that appeals to me thus far. i was somehow exposed to it like a year ago and went bananas bc i enjoy funky little 80s songs and i desperately wanted that song in particular. i think some people have kind of dismissed this as like, a ~tiktok thing~ and well <3 i don't care. tiktok didnt exist in the 80s but this music sure did. anyway i would urge you to ignore that entirely at this point and just enjoy the funky 80s bops no matter how they got here (actually that's like part of why i'm even making this post. consider this like...a guide. forget tiktok exists and learn to love this album full of 80s music w me)

🐬 preliminary assessment of vibes: half cute 80s synthpop and half things that make me want to pretend to be really elegant on a cruise ship somewhere between like 1987-1992, a period of time in which i was not alive but enjoy pretending i have some kind of experience with anyway. sometimes it kind of feels like music that someone would put over an old video of people walking around a mall, which is probably really appealing to a lot of people tbh. that seems to be a well-liked vibe recently. *not* an album to listen to if ur looking for something deep/poetically meaningful/super serious, 10000000% an album to listen to if u want something catchy/fun/zesty/poppy/very 80s!! it is very muchly unpretentious music for a good time

also may i just say that throughout this album there are like, random elements that remind me of like 68769376386896 different other artists who are varying degrees of wildly unrelated to this album. i mean like, there are brief moments that give me michael jackson vibes (tangentially related!), and every once in awhile something reminds me of frankie valli (??????????). that's only the tip of the iceberg tbh but if i made an exhaustive list i feel like it would just look like me listing off every third thing i have ever heard of. also a lot of people have made comparisons to wham! and i can definitely see why, soooo if that’s your type of thing!! ur in luck

🐠 a track by track analysis & review:

to preface this: if ur skeptical...the sweet spot for me is like, tracks 8-11, and if you like those, try 4 as well. i like the album start to finish tbh, but if you just want a little sampling for now, i suggest starting with those. beyond that, upon putting this together i have noticed that you can kind of break this album into categories vibe-wise. tracks 1-4 seem like they wanted to be long lost singles, 5-7 = Vibing Music. smooth and pleasant sounds to have on in the background. not the sort of thing you’d probably sing along to but the vibes are immaculate. a calm moment before things get zesty again, 8-11 = back to back hits. cream of the crop. exquisite cuisine. all pretty upbeat and poppy and i genuinely cannot imagine not enjoying this at least a little. 12-13 = very nice closing tracks to put a neat bow on it <3

#1 - chemistry - [x] - excellent choice as a first track bc the quality is very Crisp and it kind of encompasses both the whole 80s synthpop vibe and the smooth, kind of classy thing that a lot of these songs have going on. this one is very popular among those of us who have been eagerly waiting for this album to be released and it’s super nice to have a full version available now!! we had like a minute long sample of it there for awhile and i kept listening to a three minute looped version on youtube bc i was desperate. anyway!! there’s a LOT going on here. it flows well, is super catchy, and i really like it. would probably be fun to dance to if ur into that sort of thing

#2 - your guy - [x] - smooth and snazzy!! makes u want to light some candles. spoken portions in songs are always kind of funny to me for some reason but i can lean into the overall vibe and embrace it. very cute. one of my favorite things about it are the moments where the backing vocals are like, drastically deeper than the lead vocals (around 1:42ish). love that

#3 - ulterior motives - [x] - this one needs no introduction i guess lmao. tbh i feel like i still kind of need more time to absorb this version as compared to the old version — being entirely honest, if i pay very close attention, i CAN pinpoint a few little odd things going on with it quality-wise. idk what that's about (definitely doesn’t seem to be a skill issue lmao these guys know their shit) but it also doesn't ruin it for me or anything. i feel like a major part of the issue is just down to being sooo used to hearing one particular version. any difference good or bad is going to stand out. whatever, it’s still a delicious song (and there are pleeeeeenty of different cleaned up versions ripped from the movie to be found on youtube if anyone is just fully unsatisfied w this one)

#4 - man needs love - [x] - THIS is one of the best ones hands down. once again we are monologuing in the middle of a song but imo it works pretty well here. it feels veeeery of the era and i definitely feel like this could've been tremendously popular if not for the whole Never Got Released thing. it is super fun and catchy. if u came for the wham! comparisons this should be ur starting point

#5 - so in love - [x] - the beginning to this one is soooooooooo exquisite to me. my overall take on this one is that it's kind of...well. Vibing Music. like i would never choose or recommend this for karaoke night but it is excellent for having on in the background while you do basically anything else. smooth and snazzy yet again. definitely creates some kind of vibe. also i really like a lot of the vocals on this one

#6 - you turn me on - [x] - when i first saw the title i did not expect to enjoy this one quite so much, BUT it's actually pretty great.......visceral subject matter notwithstanding (that's just rlly not my thing usually but i think i'm the odd one out here so disregard this lmao). very chill vibes; kind of in a similar category to the previous track re: Vibing Music status. lots of interesting sounds and things, very very VERY of the era. importantly, it contains that instrument that i can only ever think of as "lizard noise thing" (apparently that's a vibraslap), and that appeals to me immensely.

#7 - rock me to sleep - [x] - more Vibing Music. initially i wasn’t sure how to feel about the whole whispering thing but i’ve concluded that they pull it off well. it reminds me of something but i really can’t place what it is — some kind of particularly funky and vibey 80s background music type of thing. late 80s/early 90s fashion show music!! for sure

#8 - think i'm gonna cry - [x] - back to the more upbeat vibes. another one of my favorites!! possibly THE favorite for me. seems a little underrated among fans thus far imo so allow me to champion it here. kind of similar vibe-wise to man needs love, so if u liked that one then you'll probably feel positively about this one too. definitely another one that should appeal to anyone for whom the wham! comparison sparks interest. i honestly think this is like...one of the best tracks. if i didn't know any better you could have easily convinced me that this was popular in its era bc the overall quality is there and it reeeeaaaaally has a poppy vibe that feels almost universally appealing. it feels like a fun song for summer. also pretty short in length, so v approachable to anyone feeling impatient <3

#9 - potion of emotion - [x] - another one that i thought i wouldn't be a huge fan of when i saw the title lmao but i was wrong!! i love the deeper vocals here and just ?? well. basically everything about it. not to bust out a technical term but i do just absolutely love the synthiness. there's something kind of satisfying about the lyrics...i mean they're not like, deep elaborate poetry lmao it just sounds neat from like, an auditory perspective. anyway, it’s smooth yet fun. i want to be hearing this on a cruise ship

#10 - one last look - [x] - deliciousss. i feel like this one is almost a sssslightly different flavor of 80s vibe but i have no idea how describe it. maybe ummm idk more pop-rock than just straight pop. feels pretty summer-y. very 80s classic rock-sounding guitar parts (delicious). if i had heard this on the radio at some point i would've wholly accepted it as just like. idk a normal popular 80s song i just never happened upon before (this applies to a Lot of these tbh)

#11 - nothing lasts forever - [x] - another solid favorite for me!!! suuuuuper catchy, has been stuck in my head for like three days!!!!!! i love it!!!!! fun horns!!!!!! idk what else to say but it's fun, upbeat, and ummmmmm. one of the best songs here imo

#12 - language of love - [x] - actually probably my least favorite, but it's still fine. from what i've seen it seems pretty popular though so who knows!! i feel like putting it second to last was a good idea because it does kind of seem like…idk, calming down after four very zesty ones in a row.

#13 - lie school - [x] - if u feel dissatisfied with the new ulterior motives, this is like...the next best thing. very similar vibes both in terms of theme and sound, but not in like, a repetitive way. i actually rlly like that it's the last track bc it kind of feels like sort of a callback to ulterior motives, and i looooooove when albums do that kind of thing. anyway i definitely feel that it’s a little……hmmm. idk the whole school thing is just such a highly specific theme and they really stick with it. but i like it >:-)

🐬 closing thoughts:

i just really really like it tbh. i hope i have converted at least a few people not only bc it's a worthy cause but also bc i spent literal hours spread across two days writing this. shoutout to christopher and philip booth, thank you for this whole entire album and also for inexplicably moving to my town in the midwestern usa despite being from the uk. idk why you did that but i think it's very cool and learning that information after a year of hoping somebody would find ulterior motives made me feel like i was living in some kind of weird dream. also. vinyl release when?? <3

Hellooooo! Saw the last ask about tarot cards and while you don't have to answer this, I'd like to give the meanings of the cards that we've seen in the chapter titles, which I'll let others make the connections cause this is already gonna be pretty long if you choose to answer this ask lol

Please note all of these are the general information and meanings about the cards (upright) I could find and the meanings can slightly vary depending on the kind of reading being done and the paired cards <3

Chapter 1: Death. Generally this actually refers to new beginnings and change! It's also a good reference to the talk of sight and death in the first chapter imo, very clever play on your part!

Chapter 2: Seven of Cups. This generally is interpreted as having many options or multiple possibilities, which can either be a comfort due to having options but also could inform you of a sense of being overwhelmed due to too many choices.

Chapter 3: Page of Wands. Often this means good news that should be coming to you soon (often represented by mail or a phone call wink wonk) though for the particular chapter I feel it's relevant to point out some other interpretations, including but not limited to: being inspired or creative, making new exciting plans, finding something you are passionate about, and having a tendency to rush into new things without thinking them through.

Chapter 4: Two of Pentacles. Oft a representation of trying to find or maintain the balance of various aspects of ones life! It can also be a warning to those trying to juggle too many things at once.

Chapter 5: Trochomancy. Not sure if this is a tarot card, I've never heard of it and I can't find anything about it in any of my sources so. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ though I did find a definition of the word from a simple Google search: "Trochomancy is a divination by interpreting the wheel tracks." Which plays in well with our little bike trip.

Chapter 6: The Moon. The simplest interpretation for this card generally is that everything is not as it seems, be it a person or a situation in your life.

Chapter 7: Three of Pentacles. This generally is seen as a good card in a reading, often representing things like learning and/or apprenticeship, hard work, dedication, and building on success or foundations!

Chapter 8: Seven of Pentacles. Generally, this card tells you that you've been working very hard and soon your hard work will pay off. A wonderful successor to a card like the Three of Pentacles! You've used these very cleverly, it makes me so happy to see these pair so well with each other and the chapters!!! New thing to be insane about your fic!

Chapter 9: Clamomancy. ALAS! Stuck again with one I've not heard of as a card or can find in my sources, my apologies. But, again, I could find a definition from the ever reliable yet not so reliable Google! "Fortune-telling from the random shouts and cries heard in crowds, at night, etc." I. AM. STARING. 👁️👁️

Chapter 10: Two of Cups. A little ironic considering it's general upright reading interpretation and how the chapter starts out lol. Two of Cups often means things should be going well for you and your life should be very harmonious. It can also mean harmony and mutual respect friendships/partnerships, and all in all has a lot to do with balance regarding life and relations.

Chapter 11: Six of Swords. At the time of writing all this out I actually haven't read this one yet so I'm very excited to see how the cards meanings apply to this chapter! This card generally means moving on or making progress (love that idea), but can also be interpreted as escaping/running away (👁️👁️) or travel! But most often means things like the calm after the storm (👁️👁️) I'm excited to find out how these apply!

I need you to know I actually love you (platonically) for being this amazingly creative and playing these so well!

Thankyou for going to all the effort of writing these! <3 Some of the chapter titles do play into the reversed readings of the cards too, which is something that's worth considering if you want to deep dive!

I anticipate GITM being 100+ chapters so while I intend to use the entire major and minor arcana Tarot as titles, I will also be including some Astral Houses, Lenormand Cards, divinatory practices and philosophical ideas to fill the gaps!

I can’t tell where the journey will end But I know where to start

Prequel to my Kid Buggy fic, set about 11-ish years before that story.

Buggy meets you by chance when he needs his buttons sewn back onto his jacket. He’s young, up and coming, and he thinks everyone should cower before him wherever he goes, but all you do is smile at him.

Rating: PG-13ish just for some swearing. Warning: Buggy’s in his early 20s. He’s an asshole. He just is because I wanted to write him loud, demanding, everything. Someone else makes a brief appearance, no names. Sunny is just likeable to many people it seems. Also, I'm not nice to Buggy when he tries to flirt. I definitely write him as a bit of a disaster when it happens. It's just going to get a bit worse from here. A/N: I have no idea when Buggy became a Captain, so he’s a fresh faced captain in this. No clue how long this fic will be. Also I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who reads, reblogs, and replies on this story. Chapter 8

Buggy came back with a bouquet of flowers for you that afternoon. He made sure he wore clean clothes, had his hair down, and tried to look his best with his new cravat you gifted him earlier in the day. He was going to ask you out for a proper date. After the two of you kissed in the backroom it seemed like the right thing to do. He hoped you would like the flowers; he managed to find the best bouquet and steal it on his way to see you.

He ignored the large man that left the shop before him, his focus was on getting the flowers to you. Maybe he could get another kiss from you, though he expected you wouldn't do it in front of your boss. However, he didn’t anticipate when he entered the shop that you would be glaring in his direction with Benji hiding behind you while an angry Miss Pins was lowering her shotgun.

“Oh, it’s just him.” Your boss muttered as you stopped glaring and smiled. Benji sighed and crossed his arms as he tried to not look scared.

“What now?” He asked as he glared at Buggy. “Who are the flowers for?”

“Ignore them.” You said as you walked over to Buggy and took the flowers from him. “These are beautiful! Thank you!”

“Buggy, what are you doing here?” Miss Pins asked as she looked between you and the bouquet. “What are you up to?”

“Nothing!” He insisted. You kissed him on the cheek before you went to find a vase to put them in. He crossed his arms and smirked at your boss. “Why, afraid I’m going to steal her away from here?”

Miss Pins reached for her shotgun again as you came out of the back. You went over to Buggy and grabbed his hand. “Let’s go to lunch, okay? I need some fresh air.”

You didn’t wait for an answer before leading him out of the shop. He glanced back at your boss before he turned his attention to you. There was something off about this, you were acting a little weird, looking around as you held his hand tightly. He finally stopped in his tracks and frowned.

“What’s going on?” He demanded. “Why was the kid scared? What happened before I came by?”

“N-Nothing, Buggy.” You laughed nervously. “Nothing, let’s go eat, okay?”

He didn't believe you but he didn’t want to make a scene in the street. Something happened to make you nervous and he wanted to know what, but he didn’t want to possibly ruin a date with you so he decided to wait. He’d ask when he took you back to the shop.

Lunch went well. His table manners were not the best, but what did you expect from a pirate? When he seemed to be finished eating, you wasted no time in reaching over and wiping crumbs off his face with his napkin. He frowned at you when you did that, his cheeks pink. He'd be fine to get more food on his face if it meant you touching him again. You just smiled and sat back in your seat.

“What? Pirates with food on their faces aren’t scary, Buggy.” You teased as you took a sip of your drink. He said nothing as he reached over to steal a bit of food off your plate. 

“I'd still be scary!” He shot back with a mouth full of food. 

“I'm absolutely terrified right now.” You chuckled as you rested your elbows on the table. “You're so scary.”

He picked this drink up and frowned at you. He was scary when he wanted to be, but he never wanted you to be scared of him. He thought back to the shop, with a scared Benji and you glaring at the door. “Hey, what happened back at the shop before I came in?”

“Oh, um…” You had hoped he would forget that. “About that… an old customer came in that I hadn't seen in about five years.”

“Okay?” Buggy tossed his drink back before gesturing to the waiter for a refill on their drinks. “And?”

“Well, last time I saw him he demanded I marry him… and he came back demanding if again.” You told him with a shrug. “I didn't even know his name, and he just calls me Shop Girl, and I… didnt want to marry him then and don't want to marry him now.”

“He demanded?” Buggy repeated, his jaw dropping. “Did you say yes?”

You stared at him for a moment. He was sometimes really dumb. “No. Why would I say yes?”

“I-I don't know!” He shot back. “I saw that one guy this morning, y’know, kissing your hand and you touching him! Maybe this guy liked that you did that and wanted you to marry him!” He looked away from you for a moment before muttering, “You’re nice, I bet lots of guys wanna marry you.”

“Buggy, shut up.” You told him kindly, and he listened to you. “I did not say yes because I don't know him.” You sighed as the waiter came by and refilled your drinks. “And as for my customer from today, I didn't expect him to kiss my hand.”

Buggy crossed his arms as he leaned back in his seat, looking away from you again. “Did you like it? Didn't you think he was handsome?”

“Normally I don't expect customers to kiss me.” You retorted. Buggy turned red and scratched his cheek. 

“About that…”

“I don't think you think of you as a customer anymore after last night, Buggy.” You told him. “And I didn't mind you kissing me, I actually liked it.”

He glanced at you briefly before looking away again. You liked that he kissed you. You weren't disgusted or upset by it. You just said you liked that he kissed you. His mind started racing. He wanted to kiss you again but would it be okay out in public? Did you care about that sort of thing?

“As for this persistent customer, he came back today and didn't want to leave.” You told him as you looked down at the table with a frown. “Benji was actually scared, which is a first so far. This man was… intense.”

“What's his name?” Buggy asked..

“I don't know.” You sighed. 

“He wants you to marry him and you don't even know his name?” Buggy looked confused by this. “And you don't want to marry him, right?” 

You looked at Buggy with an exasperated expression. “You're so dumb. No, I don't want to marry him. I would marry you before I marry anyone else, Buggy. Plus, he… seemed dangerous. I don't want to be with someone like that.”

Buggy's eyes lit up. Oh, so you would consider marrying him. Was it too soon to ask you? Were you two even in any sort of relationship? He looked at you thoughtfully for a moment before reaching across the table to grab your hand. In doing so he managed to knock over both drinks. You were able to avoid them but he wasn't so lucky. The table just happened to tilt in his direction and his entire body shuddered as the liquids spilled onto his lap, soaking into his pants.

He expected you to start laughing, to walk away and leave him to deal with this himself. Why would he expect anything else? Instead you pulled some berry from your pocket for lunch and removed your sweater, holding it out to him.

“Tie this around your waist and we'll go back to the shop.” You told him gently as he took it from you. While he did as he was told, you used napkins to mop up some of the spilled liquid. He said nothing once he was done, instead watching you to tell him what to do next. You held your hand out to him and he took it, giving it a squeeze before you led him out of the cafe and back to the shop.

Why couldn't any of this go right for him? He tries to flirt with you, gets insulted and falls out of his chair. Tries to flirt with you on your birthday and ends up upsetting you. And on his own birthday he was a drunk mess. And then he managed to kiss you and…he fell over. Now he tried to hold your hand and possibly ruined his pants. And each time (except your birthday) you were there to help him. Why were you so nice to him? He didn't feel like he deserved it.

You ignored your boss and Benji as you took Buggy into the backroom. You looked him over for a moment before going to a rack in the back corner of the room, grabbing a clean pair of pants for him.

“These should fit you.” You told him as you handed them over. You turned your back, allowing him a moment of privacy as he changed into the clean pants. It felt better than the damp ones he had on. He sighed, his hand tapping you on the shoulder when he was done, holding them out to you. It was a little jarring to see a floating hand behind you, but you took the pants and tossed them in the wash bin. “You okay?”

He sat on the chair and leaned forward, shoulders dropped as he held his head in his hands, face burning as he refused to look at you. 

“Buggy-”

“Don't.” He mumbled as he covered his face with his hands. “Why can't it go right? Ever?”

“What are you talking about?” You asked him as you walked over to him, touching his shoulder. He hesitated and looked up at you. You were looking at him with a worried expression, your hand resting on his shoulder. Why were you so nice to him? He didn't deserve any of it.

“Nothing.” He looked back down. 

“Do you want a hug?” 

He looked back up at you. Yes, yes he very much wanted a hug from you, anything to be closer to you, touching you, anything. Buggy stood up from the chair and you wasted no time in wrapping your arms around him, pulling him against you as he closed his eyes. He let his head rest on your shoulder, his arms encircling you as your hand rubbed small circles on his back while your other hand touched the back of his head gently. 

This… this was nice. The familiarity and safety he felt in your arms was unexpected but he wouldn't fight it. This is where he belonged, in your arms forever. He never wanted to let go of you.

A/N : I got huge inspiration after reading Zendaya's definition of Hunter Schafer in the 2021 TIME100 NEXT, and I vowed to include this scene in my fic. This year's Bahrain Grand Prix Formula 1 race was exceptionally intense and special, with the special appearance of two Latin pop stars, Úrsula and Shakira, both of whom are currently rumored to be romantically linked with Formula 1 racers, Y/N and Lewis Hamilton.

What makes this even more interesting and complex is that Y/N and Hamilton were previously rumored to be in a romantic relationship with each other before they seemingly drifted apart last year. Now It seems like both of them have moved on to new romances, especially considering the clear distance they've maintained throughout the competition, and the arrival of both pop stars further solidifies that they are each embarking on new relationships, closing the door of romantic rumor between the two drivers once and for all.

However, the new relationships might not be smooth. According to insiders, Shakira herself has been rumored to be nurturing a romance with another star, Tom Cruise. While Úrsula and Y/N have rumors circulating that they had an argument before the female singer flew back to Los Angeles the next day, maybe both Y/N and Hamilton are more suitable to be single than in a relationship with someone? 4 MINUTES Theories (Trailer + Teaser)

As promised, it’s theory time!

Since this show is written by Sammon (whose work I love and always have many theories about), it would be fun to write down my theories and see how they hold up throughout the series (and see how terribly wrong I’ve been the entire time, lol).

(And it will help me keep track of my theories, which is great for my terrible memory.)

So, with the trailer, the teaser, and the promotional posters in mind, let’s dive into a summary of the plot we’ve gotten so far before I share my theories.

Plot Summary From the Trailer and Teaser

So far, what I can tell about the story is that Great (Bible) sees 4 minutes ahead of time (obviously). (I’m not sure if it includes moments he wants to see, moments that might have a specific significance to him, or if it’s just random moments he sees ahead of time. I’m leaning toward moments that might have significance to him. Perhaps moments that might help him redeem himself for a past mistake/transgression.)

Great runs someone over with his car, which may or may not have been the trigger for his visions. It could also be one of his visions itself.

In the teaser, Great mentions that the doctor he sees (most likely a neurologist who might shed some light on his condition, considering we’ve seen images of brain scans), is arranging for him to meet with someone who has a similar condition (I have theories about who this might be).

Great also mentions that he often sees a clock that stops at 11.01.

Tyme (Jes) seems to be a doctor of some sort. I don’t think he’s the neurologist Great is seeing for his condition. Instead, it seems like Tyme is talking to a neurologist about someone who sees things that don't exist (which could be Great, but it could also be the other patient with a similar condition).

Then we have some moments of Great and Tyme being together in (what looks like) the countryside.

And then we have flashes of their sexy time, which isn’t only Great and Tyme but other characters strewn in there as well. So, there will be more than one relationship/situationship in the series.

Now, let’s get into the theories.

Theories for Days

The Characters

Let’s start with the characters and their individual posters.

We basically know who Great and Tyme are, and the similar backgrounds in their posters show that they’re connected, so I’ll focus on the others for now before I get into more theories about these two.

Based on the posters alone and the little info we got in the trailer and teaser, I believe Korn (Bas) is the bad guy, which I’m basing off his vibe both in the poster and the short moment we got of him in the trailer, while Title (Jet) might be involved with him somehow. That’s based on their similar-looking poster backgrounds. Also, Korn wears a snazzy suit while Title wears Dolce & Gabbana. I’m leaning towards brothers even though it can be a boss/minion type of relationship as well. They are also the only ones in the posters who are looking to the side rather than into the camera. They’re definitely hiding something.

Then there’s Tonkla (Fuaiz) who looks like he’s standing in front of a target. Is he a hitman or is he the target someone’s aiming at? He’s basically got a target on his back, doesn't he?

Win (JJay) has contrasting colors (red and green) in his background. He might be someone who has to battle with some contrasting, opposing forces (internal and/or external). If they continue with the DFF pairs, he will be involved with Tonkla (but I honestly have no idea if the one JJay is kissing in the trailer is Fuaiz, it's difficult for me to see).

Then we have Fasai (Natty) and thank every fucking higher power that we have a woman in the cast. She’s the only one who doesn’t have red in her background (even though there is a hint of it in the bottom left). Her background is blue (I’ll dive deeper into this below). It looks like water with trees reflecting on its surface, but it could also be a crumbling background that reveals the blue.

Den (Job) is most likely the neurologist based on the brain scans on the background in his poster. So, he and Tyme are coworkers but probably friends as well. I don’t know why, but wouldn’t it be wild if Den has a situationship with Korn? I wouldn’t mind this even if Korn is the bad guy. Den can use that time to infiltrate Korn’s whole life and get inside info. (Give it to me!)

And last, but definitely not least, we have Dome (Mio) who has a blank background. He might be a mystery person operating under the radar without showing his true alliance until the end. He might be the person Great runs over in the teaser and suffers memory loss. Or, he might be Great’s younger brother (just because I want him to be) and the blank background is just there to mess with my head. Either way, I’m keeping my eyes on him.

Another interesting thing about the posters is that they all wear dark or light or a mix of both. Tyme, Den, and Tonkla wear dark shirts, Korn and Title wear dark jackets and white shirts, Fasai and Dome wear white, while Great and Win are the only ones who wear something light mingled with dark.

In Great’s case, he has a dark shirt, but his jacket is in a light color with dark stripes, while Win wears lighter colors but the outer garment is interwoven with darker threads, which pulls it a little towards the gray side.

What’s my conclusion about this? That Great and Win might be brothers and that they will butt heads from time to time. (If I can’t get Bible and Mio playing brothers, Great and Win might be my second-best choice.)

Colors (and Symbolism)

There’s no way I would write about my theories without including my thoughts on the colors, so here we are.

I’ve already written about the black and white clothes in the promotional posters. But black and white show up in the trailer as well, where Great is often in lighter colors while Tyme is in darker colors. I’m sure this means we’ll see Great and Tyme contrast each other personality-wise (perhaps on a moral level as well).

(Others are more well-versed than I am in the whole black/white, seme/uke connection, so I won’t go into that.)

I’ve previously mentioned that water might have some significance in the show.

Water is often connected to the color blue, emotions, cleansing, a natural rhythm, reflection, etc.

There are both positive and negative symbolism connected to practically everything, including water and the color blue. Blue can symbolize serenity (tranquil water) and the unknown (the deep blue sea). Water can also be a source of truth (its reflective surface) and uncontrollable emotions (stormy seas).

I got the feeling that the water connects Great and Tyme. Every time water is shown in the trailer, they are either together, seem to talk to each other, or Tyme calls out for Great.

It might also be that Great (and potentially Tyme) is connected to our mystery lady, Fasai, considering her blue background in her poster. And if I’m to guess, I believe she might be the one with a condition similar to Great's. That’s solely based on the blue in her poster and the woman in that red room with the clock (I’ll come back to this in a moment).

Something is going on beneath the surface, that’s for sure, and I have a feeling the story will get emotional.

I previously mentioned that red also seems to have some significance.

There are the numbers on the elevator, the red car, the red light, a red umbrella blowing in the wind, and even a red room (which I’ll get back to in a moment).

Red is often connected to fire, strength, and passion, but it’s also connected to anxiety.

Red often shows up around Great, especially in the form of light.

It also shows up in this red room where the numbers say 04:00 and (what I believe to be) Fasai sitting on a bed with images of brain scans shining down on her (which includes a light that looks blue, btw).

If that is her, I believe she might be locked up in that room because of her ability to see what happens in the future. For that reason, I believe she has some connection with Korn. She might be his sister. And she might be locked up for trying to stop Korn from doing something bad, or because she didn't want him to use her ability for his own purposes.

But, back to the red…

It’s interesting that red shows up together with clocks more than once, but I believe it’s because Great is anxious about his ability to see 4 minutes into the future. Time has become a source of anxiety for him, whereby the red shows up in connection to time (at least in the trailer).

I also have a theory that the red light might indicate that Great is in a kind of dream world (or entering said world). We see him wake up from a dream in the trailer, and there’s no longer any red in sight, which is in contrast to the image above.

Besides the blue and red, there’s also a lot of yellow in the trailer (especially in all the intimate scenes, no matter which characters are involved), and some green (especially in the countryside scenes with Great and Tyme). (I might, or most likely will, write about these colors in a separate post when the show is airing.)

Even though I don’t have any major theories about these colors right now, I do want to mention them because that means we have the primaries (yellow, red, and blue) as well as green. That also means that we might not only get the contrast between dark and light but also the contrast in temperature. The cold (blue and green) against the warm (yellow and red). Color me intrigued.

Let’s move on to some other theories I have.

Tattoos

I’ve previously mentioned the rune tattoos, which someone in the comments to that post made me aware of are Bible’s real tattoos (and I reacted to that here in a comment that was sent to me about this as well). But I still want to keep those theories a little longer (until they show me the tattoos have nothing to do with the show) because they were displayed so prominently. So, let me be a bit delulu for a while longer until they tell me I’m wrong (and learning from my time with DFF, and still being in the clown car believing Non is alive, you can count on me being delulu about the tattoos even after I’ve been told they have no significance).

Adding to what I wrote in that post, my theory is that the tattoos have something to do with the story. Perhaps they’re connected to Great’s power, perhaps they’re connecting him to another character (maybe Fasai or a possible brother), perhaps they only show up when he’s ahead of time before he’s thrown back again (I know, delulu as fuck, but I choose to be delulu about this).

Great’s Powers

Since my theory is that Korn is the bad guy (who holds Fasai locked up in that red room), he might find out about Great's abilities to see the future, which leads to Great also becoming Korn’s target just like Fasai.

Or, perhaps Great will help Fasai escape that room after finding out about their similar abilities and ends up becoming Korn’s target for that reason.

I think that Great’s powers also have something to do with him seeing the clock get stuck at 11:01.

Something clearly happens at that time (or, at least, it has some significance). My theory is that Great hit the person with his car at 11:01 (or they died at 11:01) and that’s why he sees clocks stopping at that time.

It could also be that his visions start at 11:01. So he might see 4 minutes ahead of time twice every day (because I don’t think they’re using a 24-hour clock).

Someone Will Die/Fake Their Death

Since this is a Sammon story, I’m sure someone will die/fake their death.

There was blood in the trailer (which may or may not have been fatal), a body bag (at least that's what I think it is), and an actual body lying there lifeless (the person Great hit with his car).

And let’s not forget that there are guns involved since we saw Tyme pointing one at a place/someone in front of him.

There’s a high likelihood that the person Great hit with his car dies (Great might try to cover this up, which might trigger his ability to see into the future). But it can also be that they need to fake Great’s death so that Korn believes he’s gone.

Sammon has killed characters before (both to kill them off and to fake their deaths), sometimes over and over again, and she’s done so in different ways. So, perhaps this time she’ll go Pit Babe-style and try out a medically induced death to trick everyone. Since Tyme is some type of doctor, he can probably make it happen (if it is medically possible, of course).

Summary

Those are the theories I have so far. So, let’s recap (I’m adding this summary of all my theories to make it easier for myself to find everything when the show airs):

The moments Great sees ahead of time are moments that might help him redeem himself from a past mistake/transgression.

The car accident is the trigger for Great’s visions.

Korn is the bad guy.

Title is involved with Korn (might be brothers or boss/minion).

Tonkla has a target on his back.

Win is battling some contrasting, opposing forces (internal and/or external).

Den is a neurologist and friends with Tyme.

Den has a situationship with Korn. (Please make this happen! lol)

Dome is a mystery person operating under the radar without showing his true alliance until the end.

Great and Win are brothers who will butt heads from time to time.

Fasai is the other character with a condition similar to Great’s.

Fasai is locked up and has a connection with Korn (who locked her up).

Great sometimes enter a kind of dream world.

Great’s (Bible’s) tattoos have something to do with the story. (Because I refuse to believe otherwise! lol)

Great becomes Korn’s target because he can see ahead of time.

Great hit the person with his car at 11:01 (or they died at 11:01) and that’s why he sees clocks stopping at that time.

11:01 is when Great can see 4 minutes into the future.

My thoughts on the new Hifuu Album

Well, Taboo Japan Disentanglement just came out! after reading the story and listening to the tracks, I thought I'd share my thoughts on the album!

The tracks

I'm going to go through the album tracks in order and give my individual thoughts on them.

1 - Morning Comes on Tanabata Hill (Original)

This is surprisingly emotional for an opening track. The new drum set here is wonderful, and the piano is soothing and atmospheric. I do think the melody is kind of all over the place though, and it's a bit hard to follow. All in all, a really nice calming song.

2 - Tinkerbell of Inequality (Original)

I've been excited to listen to this one ever since the album got announced because of the interesting title, and HOLY SHIT THIS SONG IS AMAZING. The instrumentation is so weird but oh so good. The track is ominous but jazzy. The melody is catchy. It reminds me of GFC and CoSD, with it's apocalyptic futuristic vibe. This is easily the best track in the album. Solid.

3 - Does the Forbidden Door Lead to This World, or the World Beyond? (HSiFS arrangement)

Now we get to the arrangements. The song is sporting a new drum set and piano, and I can safely say that the instrumentation is a huge improvement to the original. To be frank, I'm not too much of a fan of HSiFS's instrumentation, now don't get me wrong, the songs are great, but they suffer a bit because the instruments ZUN uses are a bit lackluster. Here, that is not the case, this a great arrange. Something I do want to note, is that the BPM of the arranges seems to be lowered a bit from their original counterparts. Not a bad thing, but it's interesting to keep in mind as you keep listening.

4 - Smoking Dragon (UM arrangement)

HOOOOOOLYYYYYY SHIIIIIIIT. The key change. the new drumset. the new, climactic/triumphant atmosphere. The new section added in??? It's all so perfect, this does the original song justice. I love this so much. One of my favorite arranges in the whole album.

5 - Mugen Noh ~ Taboo Marionette (Original)

This song is calming, but sinister sounding as well. It hits a nice balance of calming and uneasy. The instrumentation, once again, is really good here. I do feel that the electric guitar a bit later in feels a bit out of place, but in general, the song creates a really good atmosphere, and it's definitely a standout track.

6 - Crazy Backup Dancers (HSiFS arrangement)

I don't really have much to say about this one, other than that it's a fairy good arrangement of the original song. ZUN added a new synth(?) into the mix, which gives it a distinct sound from the original. It's fun!

7 - Yorimashi Between Dreams and Reality ~ Necro-Fantasia (AoCF arrange)

ZUN. you can't keep getting away with this. This is peak. The song has a newly added intro of the Necrofantasia main theme before the song kicks in, and WOW does it create an atmosphere. The instrumentation is once again great and the key change (that just dissapears half-way through lmao) is also really cool. This is a great track.

8 - The Lonesome Path in Hitachi (Original)

A surprisingly upbeat track given the title. It's composed in swing rhythm, and because of that, it kinda reminds me of Let's Live in a Lovely Cemetery and Like the Brilliance of Fairies. Not that that's a bad thing, but it does make it sand out a bit less for me. Still a good track, though! Also ZUN chill out with those reverbs

9 - The Lamentations Known Only by Jizo (WBaWC arrange)

I like the new choir here, it makes it sound more dramatic. I am a bit disappointment that the flute kind of overshadows the Spooky Lead from the original, but it's not a bad arrangement at all. And man this drum set is really doing wonders rn

10 - The Concealed Four Seasons (HSiFS arrange)

WOW. TALK ABOUT A GREAT FINALE. This arrangement tweaks just enough without completely changing the vibe of the original song, and it's fantastic. About halfway through, there's a key change that makes it sort of feel like a phase 2 to the song, and it really completes the whole package. Fantastic.

11 - Apparitions Abound Even Outside of Night (Original)

Oh cool, what a nice, calming, uplifting trac- ZUN WHAT ARE YOU DOING. So the song starts off very calming and atmospheric, and then turns into digi-rock like a minute in. It's kind of jarring but I think it works, the song is still fantastic, and does a good job wrapping things up for the album, and the story. Speaking of which...

The story (spoiler warning)

Without going into too much detail, because I highly recommend you read the story on your own, the predictions of Merry and Renko being separated where not exactly wrong, although I think the story was a lot less heartbreaking than everyone thought it would've been. It serves as a nice drama and really shows how these characters relate to each other. Seeing Renko drop everything just to save Merry shows that even if they get on the wrong foot, they're still the Hifuu club, through and through.

In conclusion, this album is absolutely stellar. ZUN's instrumentation this time around is incredibly diverse, and I can tell he was having fun experimenting. The story is also well written, showcasing these two characters and their conflicting yet similar ideals. Please, go give this album a listen! It may have been 8 years since the last hifuu album, but it was definitely worth the wait.

it’s me again. new Taylor swift album. ssk thoughts?

first, i woke up at 4:30 in the morning to listen to this album the moment it came out. And I WAS going through it thinking about skk when I wasn't bawling my eyes out over certain lyrics that were personal attacks

I do want to take a moment to talk about the actual album itself on its own for a moment just because omfg i love it, and something I really liked with tpd in comparison to more of her recent albums, is the music seems very simple, with a focus on lyricism, which had always been a theme with her music, that the lyrics are more important, but it just. It's so well done here.

Also, there's a very nice mix between the synth pop of midnights, and the more acoustic vibes from folklore and evermore in this album, when i listened to the first song i thought the whole album was going to have that same vibe, and was very pleasantly surprised at the first piano track.

Also a lot of the lyrics are very reminiscent of her earlier albums, thinking speak now and fearless. it feels most obvious with i can do it with a broken heart and who's afraid of little old me- which by the way, based off the title I thought i would HATE whos afraid of little old me, but i actually really like it??? like it's a very 'cringe' phrase, it's made fun of mercilessly, but it works surprisingly well.

The songs all seem to have an earlier album they could tie back to, with the same vibes or styles of lyrics, and it's so nice to listen to while thinking of what it could possibly tie back to.

This definitely isn't my favourite album, i was expecting something different i think, but it's still really good, and there are quite a few really good songs on it. guilty as sin? and clara bow are my personal favourites i think :3

But I would like to direct your attention to the second song on the album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'

I LOVE a title drop in a song, it drives me insane for real, and i actually screamed. But more importantly, in reference to this, it is VERY skk to me, like I listened to it and instantly was thinking of how i was going to reference this song in an au some day.

But imo, this song is 100% Chuuya pov skk and well the autism is working overtime so I will be doing an analysis I'm so sorry this is what I'm using my time for but AUGH brainrot im sorry i have interests

'You left your typewriter at my apartment' - starting off by mentioning that this is what i thought of when considering references, because im a sucker for writer skk, and i thought a really cool thing would be Dazai leaving a typewriter behind when he left for some reason, and then Chuuya picking it up and eventually using it, especially with one of the following lines being 'who uses a typewriter anyway?', something he used to judge Dazai for then becoming something he does himself is just *polite clapping* i love it and I will be giving dazai a typewriter at somepoint

'But you're in self sabotage mode, throwing spikes down on the road' - Dazai is very mentally ill, and likely does self sabotage, ESPECIALLY if it were to be his relationship with Chuuya, his bandages are an allegory for the fact that he doesn't let anyone see below the surface of his personality, and that does go for Chuuya as well. He doesn't allow for that kind of vulnerability and in all likelihood, if he were to end up in a situation where he did need to be vulnerable, he'd self sabotage and try and fuck it up just to get out of that situation. However, there's also the next lines;

'But I've seen this episode and still love the show, who else decodes you?' - which is to say that regardless of the 'episode' dazai would be having in that moment, chuuya would still love him, and can decode him to understand what he is doing, which is a VERY skk thing, being able to decode what the other is thinking when they do things, and their intentions. He would be able to work out what was going on, and be able to work things out.

'And who's gonna hold you like me? And who's going to know you, if not me?' - skk have that insane bond that they don't have with anyone else, they know each other better than anyone else, and they both probably know it, regardless of whether they admit it or not, and (don't attack me im a multishipper) they're genuinely unmatched as a duo, there's not another team with either of them that are stronger than the two of them together. Nobody is going to know them the way that they know each other, it's just impossible given how close they had to be, and the environment they were in. The entire Dazai makes Chuuya feel human and Chuuya makes Dazai feel alive thing. As the post chorus says, nobody will do it the same.

'I scratch your head, you fall asleep, like a tattooed golden retriever' - rare moments of vulnerability my beloved, but my specific picking of this line is Dazai's constant insistence that Chuuya is his dog, while frequently behaving in a way(esp ada dazai) that would be more suited to a golden retriever. There's also something I want to say here about the comparison to a dog, by a person he loves. But it is canon that Dazai at the very least does not like dogs, and in fanon he is frequently portrayed as afraid of them.

Here, this could be translated as it being a metaphor, Dazai being vulnerable like a dog, something he is scared of/hates. He isn't just scared of dogs, he's scared of vulnerability in any form, and comparing him to a dog when he is like that would be to emphasise that point, that he hates them both. This also opens the implication that Chuuya is aware of both of these fears.

But he is like a dog, and being vulnerable, and in that moment, he would be exactly what he hates most, his is everything he hates. And Chuuya loves him anyway, despite knowing how much he hates himself. And he makes himself vulnerable around Chuuya, regardless of how much he's scared of it.

'Sometimes i wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me' - this lyric makes me think of concerns about Dazai leaving again after they reunite at 22, perhaps Chuuya's own concerns of getting too comfortable only for one of their many issues to come and blow everything up in their faces, like how in a earlier lyric the relationship in the song is referred to as a cyclone, the fear is that it gets out of control, even if they know what they're doing, or trying to do.

'But you had told Lucy you'd kys if i ever leave, and i said the same to jack so i felt seen' - oh boy toxic co-dependency time. skk are so co-dependent it's literally insane, their lives often genuinely rest in each others hands, not even mentioning whatever the fuck went on in mersault. From Chuuya relying on Dazai to nullify corruption, to Chuuya being the reason Dazai decided to try living a little in 15, there have been multiple instances in which if it wasn't for the other they would be dead. They trust each other with their lives, and could very easily end up in a state where if one were to leave, the other would make an attempt on their own life (moreso dazai than chuuya, but it really could go either way).

'Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be, cause we're crazy, so tell me, who else is gonna know me?' - Anything else aside, skk are fucking insane. they deserve each other just so they don't bring danger to literally anyone else they interact with. They're insane, especially around/about each other, and again, they're the only ones who fully understand each other. Dazai is the only one left from during stormbringer as well, which is think is important to mention. Dazai was there during sb and the dragons head conflict, both times that Chuuya's friends were killed, if anyone was going to understand how he might have felt after that experience, or what happened, it would be Dazai. They understand each other in ways others would never manage.

'At dinner, you take my ring off my middle finger, and put it on the one people put wedding rings on, and that's the closest I've come to my heart exploding' - skk are literally married guys. dating six years, married four years, divorced eight times and broken up 52, but also never stopped dating and are best friends who plan how to kill the other for fun. They're married, but they're also not, but also their souls are tied together in ways not made for the human brain to comprehend. This feels very much like domestic skk fic interactions and i'm 100% here for it.

Anyway, this song is very skk coded and I love it so much, tell me why i spent an hour on this. I don't think this was what you were looking for but... this is what you got. If you want me to go through any other songs like this then i'll do it. “holy shit, ji,” you said as a heel clicked against the hard floor upon entering the room. a chuckle was more exhaled than laughed beside you, and if you weren’t busy admiring the setting, you’d see a suddenly shy woozi scratching his neck.

“i like it so much,” he admitted, trailing behind your wandering figure. “i’m so excited to work in here.”

“universe factory” couldn’t have been executed more perfectly than this. the purple-pink LED lights through the area with a small corner designated to a warm yellow glow, the surprising prism with drawings plastered on each side, and the ceiling.

you felt like a little kid peering through a telescope, wide eyed at the invisible celestials. the nebula and twinkling stars scattered on top were more reminiscent to an old trend of galaxy-print than a NASA sighting. but, as you turned to jihoon for the first time since entering his new studio, you found the stars in his prideful eyes. in that moment, he was sparkling.

you grinned harder as your vision was suddenly becoming blurry. “wow,” you turned your attention to something down, something to conceal the drama of your happiness. “i’m really proud of you.”

he was fixing the positions of some figurines on shelves ever-so-slightly, if you thought about it more it seemed like he was distracting himself the same way you were. he was never one to get emotional. “thank you. i am too… i just need to fill it with music now.”

your interest piqued at that. it was always so exciting to see how in the zone woozi was while creating music, but also, how his mind worked. his abilities never failed to astonish you— it was so hot how he just hummed a random melody and it would then be the chorus of a number one title track. he was nothing less than a genius.

“y/n?”

since when was he standing in front of you?

you blinked once, then twice. “yeah?”

you watched his eyes squint and the corners of his lips tug upwards, but you didn’t comment. did he have a thermostat? he should get one. the room is hot, the air feels thick. maybe you can buy him one of those hand-held fans. maybe you can fan him while he composes.

“i asked if you wanted to help. like, now, just casually.”

definitely casually, you thought, but the furrow of your eyebrows was made evident to jihoon. “i mean,” he continued, an eyebrow of his own raised, “maybe you’ll have some kind of fresh idea. new studio, new sound?”

“oh.” did he want you to sing? to play an instrument? this was woozi, what could you do that he couldn’t? “i’m not sure how i could possibly help you make a song, but sure,” you smiled. you’ll figure it out, probably, and why wouldn’t you want to spend some time with jihoon?

“trust me, you can help me in more ways than you can imagine. we’ll make a song like the kpop industry has never seen before.”

that had you holding back a scoff— what hadn’t the kpop industry seen? woozi likes it when people are honest around him. you decided to share your confusion out loud.

it only earned a wider grin from the boy who was making his way towards his long sofa. you followed in suit, taking note of the mirror right in front, taking up the full length of the wall, and his piano to the right of the mirror. the brief wonder of why such a large mirror was in his studio was held back from being verbally expressed when your earlier question received comment from the boy who had sat on the soft ivory.

for someone of jihoon’s stature, his hands were truly suprisingly large. his veins exposed themselves as nimble fingers spun a pencil in one hand, the other setting aside a notepad. he still held his smile, exhaling a bit dramatically as he patted the space on the cushions beside him, inviting you. “fans seem to think otherwise. i’m sure we could figure something out.”

that’s how you and jihoon found the first half of the evening’s end, the loud laughter and attempts at piano during dusk melting into squints to find starlight in the midst of pollution. the failed musical endevour had been given up for catch-up time accompanied by a previously hidden wine bottle.

“i wish we could see real stars more often,” you sighed, emphasizing the adjective as to not discredit the admiration for the universe factory. your eyes flickered from the faint glows above seoul to the lilac luminescence in your surroundings. a chuckle had you tilting your head at the boy beside you.

he shaked his hand as if to say “no, nothing,” but still provided context. “that reminded me a lot of a song i worked on earlier this year. you know i wish, right?”

your lips involuntary curved upwards as you nodded and sat up facing him. it was better this way, hearing jihoon talk about something he was so enamored with. you wondered if all his writing credits allowed for casual eloquency practice.

something was suddenly quiet, like jihoon was lost in his thoughts. you decided upon asking a question.

“how do you come up with sad lyrics?”

woozi seemed somewhat taken aback by that, evident in the widening of his eyes, but he regained his composure as soon as he lost it. in fact, he eaned back and stretched his triceps. “usually just imagining what it would be like, i watch anime too.”

you furrowed your eyebrows. “not experience?”

he now looked in the space between his lap, clicking his tongue. “not usually, to be honest. i don’t have time to get experience,” he laced the words with a laugh, a silent understanding between the two of you that he was talking about love. “it gets a little tiring sometimes.”

you couldn’t help the words that came out of your mouth next, a bit too fast as if instinct: “romantic or not, you’re surrounded by love, ji, that counts.”

times like these had you regretting your awful memory, when jihoon would break his front and look fragile. the look that followed your response was not quite hurt but held the same pain and shock, like it was miles away from what he expected. you turned away, once again regretfully—  it was a face that you were not supposed to see. and woozi recognized that a beat too late, because a frown already painted your face at the sight of his blush-streaked pale.

you knew he did not want to talk about that outburst from his initiation of affection. he extended an arm, an invitation which you accepted by meeting the boy who sat up almost diagonally on the corner of the couch. your body fit in between his spread legs as the back of your head hit his shoulder, woozi’s arm swinging around your own.

one, two, and some more kisses were planted somewhere among your hair and forehead. the distance between the two of you was small, but you still questioned your hearing when hot breath accompanied his lips, a plush sensation against your skin as if he was saying something but you couldn’t make out anything more than mumbles. you did make out one thing though, a little, “at least i have my friend baby.”

at the therapeutic atmosphere, your eyes has subconsciously fluttered shut, and you hadn’t realized until you remembered the joy of being in the moment with jihoon, seeing him. you must have looked starstruck when your gaze met his considering how his gibbous eyes waned into crescents, his mouth replicating the semi-circle shape as well with his smile. for some reason it made you smile too, maybe too hard for the moment.

“i love music,” he suddenly confessed, grin evident in his voice. your eyes coincidentally fell towards the wine bottle from earlier.

your face knit in confusion and you exhaled a laugh, but he kept smiling. “what’s got you so happy now?”

the action had the boy make a noise that was only comparable to a purr.

“it’s recording. our voices.” he spoke a bit stiffly, but you knew how he was feeling. it only took the painfully slow cracking of each of his knuckles, a deep breath, and a slightly hesitant would music interfere with the recording? probably, right? before he planted himself onto the chair closest to his recording desk. suddenly, he seemed perfectly comfortable, the evidence in his lax recline and manspread.

“come here,” his eyes dwelled on the ground for a second too long, waiting for your steps across the floor before he would look up. once you made your way over to him, a silent understanding of your designated place to be on his lap, he run his palms up and down your sides. there was a tilt to his head, eyes not leaving yours now. the recording picked up heavy breaths and the smooth of skin against skin with no real contact yet.

I think... I think if Ace doesn't die soon, he won't die at all. I can only see him as a victim because he's too dumb to be a third chapter/fourth chapter (let alone fifth chapter) killer. He might be a victim, though...

Yeah, I agree! I’ve actually thought for a while that if Ace isn’t the chapter 2 killer, he won’t die at all.

Let me explain that. While victim-Ace is possible, I feel like seeing him be killed might be a bit undercut by the fact that we’ve seen someone attempt to murder him before. Usually, seeing a character you like all bloodied is a new thing that will make you feel sad and distraught, since you’ve never seen them like that before. But with Ace it may feel like we’re just rehashing old events so that he can actually die this time, if that makes sense. It doesn’t hit as hard to have him be a victim if he was already almost a victim once. If it happens in chapter three, it might feel like that first time didn’t effect his character enough to actually justify his almost-death, it makes it feel like he was just a plot device to get Nico’s arc to be fully realized before Ace could finally actually die.

Onto the question of Ace being a killer or not, chapter 3, 4, and 5 killers often have more complex murder schemes, and you’re right, Ace doesn’t seem like the type of character to be smart enough to make up a murder scheme better than someone like Min would, even if Min’s attempt was done on the fly.

He’s so dumb that the only way I could see him being a killer…Is if that was the point.

Chapter two is all about subverting expectations about people’s true nature. Hence the title connecting to the saying “not all that glitters is gold”. David actually has an incredibly depressing and pessimistic outlook on the world, Nico is capable of doing evil things, etc.

So having the culprit subvert expectations would make sense, too. That’s one reason I like the Eden culprit theory (I DON’T THINK SHE’S SECRETLY EVIL, JUST THAT SHE MAY BE THE CULPRIT). The nicest person in class committed murder, gasp!

If Ace were the killer, the twist would be that their quote on quote ‘dumbest’ classmate managed to almost fool them all into voting for the wrong person, and would’ve if it hadn’t been for Teruko, and overall created an extremely clever murder scheme that almost let them get away with it, something that they never would’ve expected Ace to be capable of.

And since Ace almost got murdered right before this trial, his motive could be that since he just almost died, he thought he’d definitely die for real if he didn’t murder someone soon. His emotional instability is probably at an all-time high right now, after all.

Still, Ace being the culprit this chapter doesn’t seem to really feel like it should happen? His secret shed a lot more light on his character, sure, but it didn’t feel like the final puzzle piece we were missing before we can fully understand his character. It feels like his character has a lot more it should do before he dies.

One could argue that we’ll figure out the rest of his backstory and all that in a bonus episode, but there’s a reason those episodes are called bonus episodes and not epilogues. They shouldn’t be required viewing in order for you to understand a character, they should be there to help you further get to know a character you already understand.

There’s also the tape. I know everyone who’s seen the Eden culprit theories knows all about the titular disappearing tape, since that’s what a lot of the theory is based on. And I still stand by it not being a technical error until proven otherwise. I hate assuming the creator of anything I watch/play made a mistake or a retcon before we get the whole picture, just because it doesn’t fit with my current view of the story they’re making. But to get back on track, if we go under the assumption that the tape disappeared on purpose, which makes sense since it literally is said to have disappeared by the time Teruko and Rose get to the gym the next morning, that leaves us with three potential suspects: Eden, Ace, and Teruko. Only they could’ve taken the tape.

I don’t think anyone will disagree with me dismissing Teruko as the culprit immediately. It just doesn’t fit with her character motivations, especially since she literally told everyone she’s not going to commit a murder and she wants to live in the killing game building, because free food and no rent and such.

And Ace…Well, he could’ve taken it, but it still just doesn’t seem right. While you can argue he decided to commit a murder because of the Nico incident, there’s no way he could’ve thought ahead about needing the tape for that when, as stated by Ace, his only goal at the time was to kill Nico right then and there. He had no complex murder scheme thought up yet, so he couldn’t have known he’d need the tape. You could argue he lied about wanting to kill Nico right then and there and that he actually secretly had thought up a murder plan, I guess, or that he somehow thought he could use the tape as a weapon to kill Nico, but still. It feels like a little bit of a stretch, especially since Ace both just woke up and was bleeding heavily, not leaving much of a possibility for him to have believably been able to think of a complex murder method on the spot and know he should steal the tape. And if he wanted to use it as a weapon, why would he hide that from Teruko when he was perfectly fine telling her he was going to kill Nico? Overall it doesn’t seem as likely as Eden stealing it when she fell, leaving her as my prime suspect for being the killer.

Also, having Ace be like “I’m gonna die” and Teruko be like “someone like you isn’t going to last long here” at the beginning of the second chapter and then actually just having him die in the second chapter feels a little unsatisfying, because you were waiting for the narrative to prove them wrong. Then again, we’re on chapter two, the doom and gloom chapter, so maybe this is the part where Teruko’s beliefs are proven right (for now) and Ace does die.

So, to summarize: If Ace is going to be a culprit, the second chapter is the only spot where that kinda makes sense for me. I don’t think it’s too likely he will be a victim, especially in chapter three. And all in all I think he has a real shot at surviving the killing game!

Okay literally nobody asked but since I am procrastinating AND restless:

My final thoughts/ranking of the Eternal mini:

(warning this is a full on yap sesh and I have next to no knowledge of music except for the very basics feel very very free to ignore)

1. Deja vu: I have feelings for this song. So gorgeous, dreamy and ethereal. Smiling so big because this song exists blah blah. Anyway the way I thought this song would be #chillvibes from the album preview snippet but then it turned out to be #nochill kajskajsj even tho there is definitely a lethargic quality to the song. I was so gagged but despite the tables turning on me I loved it immediately. Also the very random (but very well incorporated) tabla in the bridge? Slay. Initially I was mad that this wasn't the tt but with all the melodrama and orchestral arrangement, it has a similar vibe to guilty so I get it. But this song is ten fold of what guilty wanted to be (to me, that is). And I think this song remaining as a b-side to be occasionally performed instead of it being dragged through the promotional cycle and losing all the weight and impact of the song is a good choice too (the song itself is not very promotion cycle friendly either). I can't wait to see what the choreo looks like.

2. Horizon: Very kibumcore as a lot of people have also said, I think so too!! A very unexpected sound for a taemin song but he delivered sooo well. I do wish the song was longer tho. Don't know what being the second title track on this album means as of now but it's worthy of the position I'm sure.

3. Crush: Extremely shineecore! A cute and funky little number! Got me moving! The layers in the instrumentals are neat. I got exactly what was promised on the album preview. Well executed. No other notes. Other than the funky vibe there isn't really any standout element so I might get bored of it quickly tho.

Can't decide between ranks 4 and 5 so I'm calling it a tie.

4/5. Sexy in the air: I definitely should have let my brain soak this in a bit more before complaining about it cause now I literally can't stop listening to it helpppaksnakms cause Damn... This is crazy. What am I gonna do now?? Jaksjksks My first ranking for this song was literally second last (in a derogatory way) and now here we are. Also I held off from watching the mv first because I'm a very visual creature and I get easily swayed that way so I was trying to be #unbiased or whatever. I still think that the second verse is a bit meh, specially because of the English lyrics (i don't even know why I was so pissed off by the "turn me down" that was obviously supposed to be "turn me on", it wasn't even that serious 😭) but I was definitely being too harsh and it's not even as bad as I made it out to be and it doesn't stick out enough to get in the way of me enjoying the rest of the song. The switch up after the beat change is soooo good I've been obsessed with that part (the horny choreo definitely helps :D).

The good things about this song being the title track are: it's produced by dem jointz (the production is interesting and immaculate), the mastering of this song is better than most tracks on this album, it is performance oriented/friendly, both halves of the song are tied together so neatly that honestly the beat change doesn't even seem that unnatural even if it's shocking, tm devoured this track in a way that only he can, tm freak lore continues!!!! but most importantly it's bold!!! and it's a statement!!! (instead of playing it safe like he did with guilty imo lol, musically i mean). My only real grievance with this song is probably the fact that it wasn't allowed to go full freak nasty the way it was originally envisioned to be because we live in a society or whatever. Tm was moaning and groaning and saying fuck in the studio only for it to be muffled and be barely audible on the track. The dem jointz trademark of an addictive repeated word/phrase being distorted because otherwise tm would be put in horny jail fr (horny gay jail even because its so crazy that they had another man moaning on the track like skdkksksjdkd). Some of the lyrics being altered hastily (like "turn me down" ksjsjsks).This song being called sexy in the air instead of sex is in the air kajskaksksks. Sad. Because if anyone can pull off something like this without being cringe, it's tm. But it's okay I get it. Also notably this song has one of the veeery few ethical uses of that infamous bed creak sample (by ethical i mean relevant to the song at hand in a way that maximizes the slay of the song).

4/5. Say Less: Very pretty, short and sweet, could have been longer. A solid closer for this album and definitely stands it's own ground despite being on the track list after Deja vu. Which is lowkey a feat of its own. The instrumentals are infact drowning out his voice a bit but I don't think it bothers me as much as I had feared. Reminds me of Truth a bit.

6. The Unknown Sea: I don't have particularly strong opinions on ballads but I do generally only listen to ballads if I'm already super into the idol. And I do like most of the other ballads from tm. However. He's singing his ass off here but the vocal processing.... specially in the chorus his voice sounds very tinny. When I first heard the song I thought it wasn't that big of a deal but now it is definitely getting in the way of me enjoying this song. Beautiful bridge tho, definitely the highlight of the song for me.

7. G.O.A.T.: This instrumental is so fucking nasty I'm obsessedddd. Unfortunately the instrumental might just be the saving grace of this song. I went into this track thinking I was not even gonna be able to listen to this but thankfully it's not thaaaaaat bad. But we definitely need to get tm off his rapping agenda. Even after listening to this a bunch of times it's not sitting that well with me. (Which is crazy because after first listen I thought his voice was more well suited to GOAT than SITA???) I do understand that this song was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek like yeah the goat bleating sounds are hilarious in a good way but tm is Not giving the hardass aura that he thought he was going for and um. that's enough for me to be like :/ which is such a shame cause even the arrangement of this song is so interesting. But yeah whatever this track needed vocally is not in tm's strengths so. I'll wait for someone to upload the instrumental tho so that I can download it and play it with the rest of the album jksjsksksjsjs

I think it's a good choice to drop an album that's just him coming out swinging after such a drastic career altering decision. There's no more room for regrets or dilly dallying and he's confident. Which is a good thing. Because it definitely makes the statement he wants to make. The album as a whole is interesting, all the tracks differ from each other but that doesn't take away from the cohesiveness of the soundscape of the album. There is a clear logic in the way the tracklisting was done, the transition from one song to the next makes sense (even if I can't explain it properly).

That being said, yes the production and the mixing is a bit lacking (along with the other downsides of a low budget) but I don't think sm has songs like this in their vault anymore so... You win some you lose some idk.

Overall I do see this as a win. Yapping over and out.

Title: The Bloodmoon Graves (Part 7/7)

Summary: Nemona learns about the rumors of a fabled "Bloodmoon Beast" and decides they should all go for a camping trip out in the Timeless Woods to search for it. They end up finding a bit more than they bargained for.

Chapters: Ch 1 - Ch 2 - Ch 3 - Ch 4 - Ch 5 - Ch 6 - Epilogue

Fortunately for the exhausted group of travelers, their camp had not been disturbed since they left it. As tired as they all were, it was almost tempting to try to go back to sleep, but there was no telling if the Bloodmoon Beast would be able to take care of all the wolves– and whether it might decide to come after them once it was done. So after a short rest, they hastily packed up camp and left, hiking back into the Kitakami Wilds.

Once they were out of the woods, they pitched their tents again and tried to get some rest, Mabosstiff standing guard, just in case. The next morning, while eating breakfast (which was whatever was left of their food supplies), they debated whether they should go back into the woods to track down the rest of their missing supplies– their cell phones were the things they wanted most to find. Eventually they decided they would return later for them. For the time being, they hiked the rest of the way back to Mossui Town. The hike felt much, much longer on the return trip, and it was a relief when they finally rounded Apple Hills and spotted the buildings of the little town.

The first thing they did was hand their pokeballs off to the nurse. She was able to clean the awful mess off their pokeballs and get them back to normal, but the job did take her several hours and some helpers. In the meantime, the kids got a proper meal at the Community Center and then just crashed for most of the remainder of that day. They definitely needed the rest.

The following day, Juliana felt a hundred percent better, and it seemed Nemona did, too. After breakfast they took a walk to Loyalty Plaza and planned out their return trip to the Timeless Woods (they were going to fly on Juliana’s Corviknight, this time). When they returned to town they finally found Arven and Penny awake in the Community Center. 

“Heyyyy, there they are!” Nemona said, dropping down on the bench beside them. Juliana sat down too, saying,

“We thought maybe you guys were gonna sleep all day.”

“I wasn’t asleep. Just didn’t feel like leaving my room,” Arven answered curtly, sipping some coffee and petting the dog lounging by his feet. Juliana teased,

“Wait, seriously? Arven staying in his room all morning? That doesn’t sound right. You okay, Arven? Did this trip turn you into Penny?”

Nemona laughed a little. Penny had her nose in a laptop and barely had the energy to send them both a withering glare. Arven replied,

“I’m fine. Jeez, I can’t take it easy for one morning? We’re on vacation, aren’t we?”

Juliana shrugged,

“It’s more of a field trip, but sure.”

She leaned down and pet Mabosstiff for a few moments and then looked back to him. In a softer tone, she said,

“But . . . um, are you actually okay? I just wanted to make sure, after . . . well, everything.”

Nemona watched quietly, also looking concerned. Arven sipped his coffee and sighed. After a while, he said,

“Yeah. I won’t claim that was my favorite trip, but I’ll be fine. Mabosstiff and I have faced worse. And it’s gonna take a lot more than some pesky ghost types to turn us off from camping.”

He patted Mabosstiff’s head and the dog’s tail thumped the ground.

“Good,” Juliana said, smiling. He gave her a smile in return, small but genuine. 

“What about you, Penny?” Nemona asked, turning to her. 

“Yeah, no, I’m never stepping foot outside again,” Penny replied blandly. Arven snorted.

“Aw, Penny! Don’t say that . . . I know you didn’t have much fun, but it wasn’t all bad, right?”

Penny didn’t even hesitate to reply,

“Yeah it was. You trying to tell me there were parts of that you enjoyed?”

Nemona exchanged a look with Juliana, then answered confidently,

“Well, yeah! I mean, not the almost dying parts obviously, but, think about it. We got to see a brand-new pokemon nobody’s ever heard of before, and all those weird tar pits, and that’s pretty cool, right? It’s like we’re on the cutting-edge of discovery and stuff!”

“I think I’ll stay away from the cutting-edges, they’re a little too cutting.”

With an excited gleam in her eyes, Nemona added,

“Plus, we saw the Bloodmoon Beast! And it was every bit as awesome as we thought it’d be!!”

Juliana chimed in,

“Yeah, I think it finished off that entire hoard all by itself, it was unreal! I can’t believe we got to see that.” 

Penny shook her head, returning her focus to her laptop.

“I’m not saying I’m unhappy it saved our butts out there, but you two are still crazy. That is not something I want to get near again, not by choice.”

“Honestly, I’m surprised you’re both not already back there trying to catch it,” Arven chuckled dryly. Nemona hesitated, looking thoughtful.

“Well . . . I dunno.”

They looked to her, waiting for her to continue. Eventually Nemona ventured,

“I kinda got the sense maybe the Beast was sorta . . . the guardian of the forest, in a way? He came in and saved us right when we needed it most. I don’t think he wants to hurt anyone, not really. Maybe he’s happy where he lives, and just wants to be left alone. Maybe . . .”

She smiled self-consciously,

“Maybe not every super strong pokemon needs to be caught?”

Arven’s phone made a little bleep and he checked it. Juliana could see the screen display:

carminesandiego: what did you do, strap a flashlight to your head and take a pic of yourself in the bathroom with the lights off

“That’s actually a nice outlook, Nemona,” Penny said with a smile, 

“So I take it once you guys find the cell phones you’ll be leaving right away then?”

“Oh no, we’re still gonna try to find one of those ghost wolves to catch.”

Dismayed, Penny stared at them.

“What happened to letting sleeping dogs lie?”

Nemona shrugged, “I dunno. Those things were freaky, I gotta learn more about them.”

When Juliana and Nemona later returned to the Timeless Woods, they were able to recover their phones and a few other odds and ins that had been missing. They combed the forest thoroughly, searching for the strange tar pools they had seen a few nights ago. They also went back to the cave where Ogerpon had discovered the original tar pool.

However, all signs of the tar pools and the ghostly wolves had vanished . . . without a trace.

Name: Oozing Bones - Ghost/Ground (Past Paradox Houndstone)

Abilities: Liquid Ooze/Sticky Hold/Prankster (Hidden)

Appearance:

(Dire Form) - A ghostly wolf (based on a Dire Wolf, Aenocyon dirus), around the size of a Mabosstiff. Its fur is pitch black, oily, and drips in some places. In a few spots, there are bare patches that expose bone beneath, including on the tail, by the ribs, and a leg. Its eyes are open eye sockets that are empty, but a flickering, ghostly purple light is inside them to act as pupils. It has very large fangs.
