I truly don't understand the writing on Stiles and Lydia's relationship in the show though. It feels like two different writers are playing hot potato with it, one writer hates it and the other loves it.
Seasons 1 and 2 really set them up. From Stiles' one-sided infatuation, they built a genuine friendship up, he got to know the real her and he was the one person who was actually there for her. They even dated briefly.
But then the season 2 finaly reunited Lydia and Jackson in an epic kiss and made Stiles actually watch that, stomping out the ship quick and dirty and you'd think okay, so next season we go back to Jackson/Lydia.
But then Colton leaves the show and Jackson is written off and you would think that they could build up on the momentum from season 1 and 2 and further the romantic relationship between Stiles and Lydia. You would think that, but it doesn't happen. Instead, the show decides on Aiden/Lydia and on setting up Stiles/Cora.
But then the potato goes back to the shipper and despite both those happening, Stiles and Lydia share that really stupidly forced panic-attack stopping kiss (that's not how you stop a panic attack. Why would Lydia think that). So you think oh, okay, maybe Aiden was just the rebound, maybe the thing with Stiles and Cora won't happen after all, maybe we are actually heading toward Stiles and Lydia.
But then we head into 3B and Aiden/Lydia is still a thing and even though Cora was written out of the show, Stiles gets to kiss a random girl and then Malia enters the plot and they have whatever they did in Eichen House (which, I do mean 'whatever', because Dylan says they did not have sex, while Shelley says they did have sex. So it's Schrödinger's Smut Scene).
But then during the final stage of the possession, it's all Lydia being there for Stiles, Stiles leaning on her, Lydia finding comfort in Stiles when Aiden dies. And you'd think oh, okay, but surely this time they will actually build out the romantic potential of this ship.
...But then season 4 starts and Stiles and Malia are fully a couple and quite honestly, I lost interest in being ping-bonged around on this now four season spanning will they won't they. And Parrish is around the corner too.
It's just honestly so frustrating that they keep building up momentum for the ship in every second half of a (half-)season, just to hard cut to the next season where the ship doesn't happen and instead other ships are happening. It truly does feel like half of it is written by someone who wants them to be canon, just to then be passed on to a writer who really, really doesn't want them to be canon and these things feel like something a writer's room should maybe be in agreement about.

God shaking your hand. I loathe every time people equate drawings and writing of fictional characters to real-life CSEM / CSAM (CP isn’t even the recommended term!! pro-censorship puritans just love throwing it around). If it’s not RFP / RPS, there is no real child being hurt. It’s an imaginary scenario.
It’s often not even “taboo” stories being attacked, either—literally just relationships between two teenage characters, as if teen romance isn’t already an established mainstream genre 🤦 Every NSFW artist and writer has been a teenager before; I find it so odd that some people can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact we might want to create works based on our own lived experiences of adolescence (or lack thereof).
And even in stories that portray toxic and predatory dynamics… It’s still make-believe. There is no real rapist / groomer and no real victim. It’s completely fair if someone doesn’t want to be exposed to such content (either by preference or cuz they find it triggering—which is why tagging and CWs exist, so people can avoid it), but saying it’s the same thing as real-life abuse, or indicates a desire to participate in real-life abuse, is insulting to survivors lmao… (And is also a huge double-standard compared to how fictional violence is treated. Why are torture, murder, cannibalism, and war crimes okay, but noncon, incest, and underage warrant cancellation?)
Cuz like. I promise you none of the times I was raped or assaulted or abused in real life had anything to do with people liking loli ryona online 💀 An anime highschooler kissing his homie with tongue is not going to hurt anyone. Getting rid of erotic or transgressive art / fic won’t stop abuse from happening, nor does its existence cause abuse to occur. Predators will exist regardless, cuz they’re bad people who make the choice to harm other real living people, and they’re going to use whatever they have at their disposal to do it.
Preventing harm is about recognising those behavioural patterns so you can avoid them, maintaining your privacy online / IRL, and offering non-judgemental support to people who seem to be sucked up in a toxic relationship (since a lot of victims get abused due to lacking a safety net). Making sure people’s worlds stay small due to censorship (gatekeeping information so people don’t know any better) and fear tactics (peer pressure to conform or else you’ll be ostracised and branded as an evil person), on the other hand, fosters an environment where people are more likely to get exploited. It’s literally how cults work 😭

I ENTIRELY disagree with your statement that cobs and mephone are one in the same. They just arent!!! they arent!!!! it's comparing a person who Was Abused to their Abuser. And i think thats really dangerous, especially because cobs did things knowingly and out of ill will and is absolutely manipulating suitcase and knife in his speech to them, but also because mephone literally has/had no fucking idea he created the contestants.
theres something wildly different between creating a fantasy UNKNOWINGLY where everything goes your way (kinda- i'll yap about that later) and you have your contestants and your show where you can be the perfect host you always wanted to be!!... And creating Sentient Beings (who you know are sentient) and sending them off TO WAR only to physically and emotionally abuse one of them when he comes back with Only ONE of the children you sent him to steal. like. Fellow mephone apologist, he's not really that bad!!!! there is hope!!!
Back to the whole. 'everythign goes his way' thing- A key difference between Cobs and Mephone to me is that Mephone, not even knowing he created the contestants, doesn't force them to do anything. He's kinda... dumb? like, let's be real, his biggest threats come up to 'you'll be kicked off the show' and yada yada... Like. take Marshmallow.
He (UNKNOWINGLY) created marshmallow to be on HIS show. But when she chose to leave... he didn't stop her. And yes, he knew she left because of his confrontation of mepad where he expressly asks him 'why did you let marshmallow leave?' Mephone 100% KNEW. but he didn't stop her (nor apple, for that matter) from going off and starting a life of their own.
MEPHONE DOESN'T WANT CONTROL OF HIS CONTESTANTS LIVES.
Yes, he's a jerk, YES, He's absolutely terrible to his contestants sometimes, and YES, he will have to deal with the consequences of his actions.
BUT. He's not anything like cobs-- at least, not where it matters.
Cobs tried to kill mephone, multiple times, when mephone tried to start his own life. Mephone views his contestants as real, sentient people- Cobs doesn't! He sees the contestants as toys, if anything... And he sees his own creations as tools. Valuable tools.
So like. what im trying to say. Is uhhh sorry for yapping so long and i hope you have an awesome day!!! I've just seen this whole Mephone=cobs thing going around and it gave me a headache SO SORRY FOR MAKING YOU DEAL WITH IT </3 but i do hope thsi was informative!

Rewatching the scene I get what you're saying.
I'mma be soooo fuckin honest this scene went right the fuck over my head, and by that, I mean I didn't know if Mephone was being genuine with his confusion or fuckin' anything actually. When I say ii 16 has killed me and left me rotting in a gutter, I'm so serious. Mentally I am in a gutter and your ask has at least rolled me back on the curb so I can breathe air instead of sewer water.
Literally reading your thing has made me remember other posts I have seen and taken to heart about this phone, like examples A and B. (They're both tumblr analyses that are kinda outdated 'cause of the bombshell but still pretty good imo). Mephone DOESN'T want to control the contestant's lives and, although he can be a dickwad at times, he still cares about them. Though is that just because they're his OCs in a way? I-
I say all that but I'm also like, I don't want to be completely throwing away everything Cobs is saying just because I feel ill every time he talks. You right, it's very clear that this whole thing is heavy with the manipulation but fuck man I think I'm just easily manipulated... I'm being so serious when I say I lost what hte fuck I was typing in the middle of this and I don't think it's coming back to me. I rolled back in the gutter, sewer water is my home I fucking guess.
Anyone who's listening to me at this point- I don't recommend it I actually don't know what the fuck is happening. I think I still have it in my head that Mephone knows about the whole "making the contestants thing" which makes it hard to fully embrace what you're saying. I should clarify tho:
Mephone and Cobs aren't the same, but the things he's indirectly picked up from Cobs (because of his abuse) are presenting harder than I thought originally. And I think that's what I really meant when I wrote the note. Or at least, that's how I feel now. It's been a couple days since I wrote the stuff in the blockquote. That's the best way to explain how I feel about the Mephone = Cobs situation—yes, but genuinely, in all honestly, no they're not the same.
And do not be ashamed of ranting, really, we love it here. Plus, my friend called this the 9/11 of inanimate insanity and yeah there's a lot of fallout and theories rn. Perfect time for discourse 'cause we're all going through the wringer.

tiktok has some of the worst music takes i have ever seen - and it is not at all in the way you think
idk maybe it's just the corner i've ended up in the cumulative 15 minutes i've spent on my fyp over the last couple months but i am not talking about bad music that comes from tiktok i am talking about how hateful and baseless people are about music that comes from tiktok. like yeah it's fun to clown on benson boone and you're allowed to be annoyed by radio stations playing the same five songs but somehow that has turned into the consensus that all popular music is objectively terrible and soulless.
i've honestly never understood hating a song just because it's popular/overplayed. i think you just don't like the song. and that's okay!!! i don't like all the songs!! but at least own up to taking issue with the song itself and give me a single good reason why besides the fact that everyone knows it and therefore you can't like it because that's lame.
furthermore, the songs and artists that they hate as well as the justification they try to scrounge up makes me irrationally angry oml. i mean i like a lot of pop music so i have at least a little bit of bias, but idec look me dead in my fucking eyes and tell me that sabrina carpenter - fucking chappell roan, make generic, unpleasant, and empty "corporate" pop music. dead in my fucking eyes, bc these are real things i have seen. both of these cough cough women are people who have been making music a whole lot longer than they've been on tiktok. they have undeniable performing talent, write most if not all of their own stuff, and are making unique, catchy songs with clever and emotional lyricism. i don't care if they're mainstream artists with songs that got a little too popular for your liking.
and that's just pop music, which has always and will always draw the attention of the pretentious, and i promise i'm trying so hard not to be biased or bitchily antagonistic, but i genuinely cannot understand thinking a hozier song is a bad song à la Too Sweet. again, not liking these songs or artists, that's chill, you like what you like, i get it, but the problem is proudly proclaiming that this music is bad.
and you know fucking what. i think anxiety is a great song. i greatly enjoy the vocal production. and as far as sample songs go - which i don't feel i have to remind y'all is common practice in the industry - i think it's a particularly good execution. suck my noncomformist balls.
