Hornblower's arc as a character is so fascinating to me because everything he does is a performance to get to the top, and now that he's (ostensibly) gotten there, he has no idea what to do with himself. He has no idea who he's supposed to be, and the man that he's constantly performing isn't him, but he's gotten so caught up in a certain ideal of success that he can't imagine any way out. It's so interesting to see him at the beginning of this book trying to grapple with having "made it" because he's reached a point where he can't perform any further, where he's supposed to be genuine, but he can't because he's genuinely not happy. I think that this quote, in particular, is quite telling (even though I'm not sure if even CS Forester intended it to be)—for a moment he actually starts to get on the right track and realize that he doesn't want to be here, but he falls back immediately into his old performative persona of the Successful Naval Officer because it's been so long since he knew what he wanted that all he can do is perform. Who is he? How would he even be happy? At this point in the narrative I think he's so far gone that I'm not sure there are answers to those questions anymore, and it's fascinating.

Older but Never Wiser
Tumblr media
CW: a bit of language
AN: Happy (almost belated) birthday @leiawritesstories my love!! This took way longer than it should have but depending on your time zone this might not be late yet lol, I’m dusting off the cobwebs to give you a little present :)
Based on this prompt: “you’re at the high school reunion and everyone’s talking about how you and [insert jerk here] were prom queen and king, unaware you dumped them years ago, and you’re moping… until you run into your nemesis from high school and you’re thoroughly distracted” (I can’t remember where this came from, it was just in my prompts folder, maybe I came up with it? Maybe not? Idk)
1458 words
Aelin could feel her shoulders begin to hunch as she drew in on herself. She’d known Chaol would be here, of course, but she hadn’t known the subject of prom queen and king would come up so soon, nor their joint senior superlative of “most likely to get married.”
She also hadn’t known Chaol would show up with a gorgeous woman taller than her, hotter than her, certainly classier than her, and wearing a giant diamond on her finger.
“I really thought you two were going to last,” Essar said, voice dripping with pity and sorrow as if she’d truly been invested in the relationship of two high school classmates she’d hardly ever interacted with ten years ago, let alone following graduation.
Aelin smiled tightly. “Well, it was for the best. I’m much happier now with my new boyfriend.” A lie, and an obvious one at that, if Essar bothered to notice. As it was, she was clearly more interested in the piece of gossip than its verity, even a decade after high school.
Some things really didn’t change.
The subject of Chaol was a bitter one—they had lasted several years following high school, and while Aelin had had plenty of time to move on, and multiple relationships following Chaol, seeing him now brought up old insecurities. Being interrogated about the end of their relationship by some random classmate at a high school reunion wasn’t making matters better.
“If you’ll excuse me,” Aelin cut in, “I should make some more rounds. It was nice to catch up with you.” There wasn’t an ounce of sincerity in Aelin’s tone and she couldn’t quite bring herself to care.
She and Essar exchanged goodbyes and Aelin fled, hurrying over to her friend Elide. Elide had been the class valedictorian and was now head of some tech company in Rifthold.
After catching up with her and a few others, Aelin headed for the refreshment table. She wasn’t one for social events, and after the tedious process of listening to the reunion’s organizers give speeches, followed by a solid half hour of unstructured mingling, Aelin was drained.
She poured herself a cup of punch. Staring into the reddish liquid at a distorted reflection of herself, Aelin sighed.
“I can’t believe Aelin Galathynius, socialite, gossip, prom queen extraordinaire, is moping at the snack table at a social event. Hell really has frozen over.”
Aelin started at the voice, looking up to see a man with stark white hair towering over her. He had certainly changed over the past decade, but the sharp pine green eyes clued her in on his identity instantly.
“Rowan Whitethorn,” Aelin drawled, grinning. “You…” She looked him over, taking in the size of his crossed arms, the deep tan, and the hard features. A tattoo snaked up his neck from somewhere underneath his shirt. Aelin whistled. “Time has served you well.”
Rowan chuckled, the sound all too familiar. “You think so?” He paused, and gave her a once-over of his own. “I could say the same.”
Aelin leaned against the table, smiling. “Do tell me what it is you do for a living. Wait—let me guess. Sly business man. Lawyer? Oh, tax collector!”
Another, louder laugh left Rowan’s lips. “I’m a child psychologist.”
Aelin’s jaw dropped. “Damn, okay.”
He grinned. “You’re what, a fashion designer? A housewife?”
Aelin rolled her eyes. “I work at a pharmacy.”
Rowan shook his head in disbelief, smiling widely. Silence settled over the pair, but it wasn’t an uncomfortable pause—merely a moment to take in each other after so long. Aelin remembered arguing with the boy this man had once been over schoolwork, over sports, over absolutely nothing.
“Gods, tell me you’re not with that asshole anymore,” Rowan said, breaking the quiet.
Aelin blinked, then felt her lips unconsciously stretch into a another smile. “No, I’m not.”
Rowan hmmed noncommittalaly. “You two were never a good match.”
He was the first person who hadn’t offered her condolences like it was some kind of recent tragedy, and for that Aelin felt her smile turn soft. “Remind me why we hated each other again?”
A breathy laugh. “I believe that was thanks to the time you scraped up the side of my car trying to park on the very first day of junior year.”
“We were sixteen! No one could drive well at that age.” Aelin was grinning.
Rowan crossed his arms. “Or perhaps the time you literally tased me? With a fucking taser?”
Aelin let out a startled laugh. She’d completely forgotten about that. One of the football boys had hosted a party while his parents were out of town, and his mom was a cop so he brought out her taser for a game of whoever can hold onto this $20 while being tased in the hand gets to keep it. Gods, high school had been quite the experience.
“That was part of the game! You took the risk, and you lost; I can’t be blamed for that. Besides, I happen to remember you making out with my boyfriend on one occasion.”
Rowan groaned in faux embarrassment, a hand running though his short locks. “Lorcan dared us to. Besides, you’d already broken up with Dorian at that point, so it didn’t really count.”
Aelin’s face started to ache as she realized just how widely her smile was stretched. “That definitely still counts, but fine, let me think of some other instance you were an asshole to me. I’m sure there were plenty.”
Rowan shook his head, eyes dancing with mirth, and opened his mouth to make a retort—but someone else beat him to it.
“Aelin! I was so happy to spot you here. How have you been?”
Of course, it was Chaol, leering over at her in a suit far too sophisticated for the occasion.
Aelin felt a wave of calm wash over her as she realized that as much as she didn’t want to have a civil conversation with Chaol, she wanted him to have the upper hand even less.
“Chaol, my gods! I’ve been great; I take it you have been as well judging by the beautiful woman on your arm?”
The woman in question blushed, and Aelin wondered what exactly she knew about her.
Chaol grinned and held up the woman’s hand—and the ring perched on her fourth finger—like some kind of prize. “This is Yrene, my fiancée. Yrene, meet Aelin and… Ronan?”
“Rowan,” Rowan correctly coolly, then glanced at Yrene. “It’s a pleasure.”
Chaol nodded dismissively and turned back to Aelin. “Is that a new haircut?”
It had been a solid six years since she’d dated the man, and at least three since they’d crossed paths. “Yes, it is.”
“And how are you getting on with that Fenrys fellow? Still happy?”
The last time Aelin had seen Chaol had been at the grocery story—fucking small towns—with her boyfriend at the time. He hadn’t lasted more than a month.
“No.”
A flicker of glee crossed Chaol’s features, and Aelin writhed internally.
“Much to my benefit, that is,” Rowan interjected. Aelin had nearly forgotten he was still standing with them. “For now I have her all to myself.”
What?
Chaol blinked, dumbfounded. “You two are together?”
Rowan shrugged. “We reconnected a couple years ago and hit it off—better than we ever had in high school,” he added.
Aelin had just enough self-control to paste a smile on her lips. Now understanding what Rowan was doing for, she took his hand casually.
Rowan’s hand envoloped Aelin’s, and his rough calluses scraped against her palm. It took restraint not to shudder, and Chaol be damned, Aelin was no longer paying attention to the conversation. Her world focused in on the warm hand interlaced with her own.
Less interested, probably now that he’d realized he didn’t have much to hang over her head, Chaol said a farewell and retreated with the fiancée who hadn’t spoken a single word. Aelin watched them leave gratefully.
Rowan slipped his hand out of Aelin’s and she almost objected before realizing herself.
“Thank you, Rowan,” Aelin said softly.
Her gaze drifted over to him and snagged on his piercing green eyes.
Rowan stared back at her for a moment. “No problem.”
Aelin shook her head. “It wasn’t no problem. That was very kind of you.”
Rowan shook his head, but said nothing more about the endeavor. “How long are you in town?”
“A whole week. I wanted to stay with my parents for a bit.”
“And I don’t suppose while you’re here you want to grab coffee together? I still need an example of the atrocities you claim I put you through, after all.”
Aelin’s expression turned fiendish. “Does tomorrow work?”

If dazai ends up transferring to the PM, how would you feel? 😭
Idk the ADA panels are making me anxious..
Hey hey!
Honestly, I think Mori trying to bring Dazai back in this way wouldn't be a good play on his part at all, and I think he knows this. Dazai has to choose to return himself, otherwise Mori won't end up with an asset at all, just a hindrance. I really can't see that kind of transfer going any way other than Dazai just... up and leaving again first chance he gets. Hahaha
Besides, it'd be a weird move on Fukuzawa's part, and I do believe both Ranpo and Kunikida (as well as Atsushi and Kyouka) would strongly protest - Fukuzawa is shown taking Dazai's advice when meeting with Mori during the Guild arc quite seriously, and even if you think that he somehow doesn't consider him part of the group (I seriously doubt it), Dazai is still an incredible boon to the Agency, especially in dealings with the Mafia or against powerful opponents like Fyodor. It would be a really poor decision to try and transfer him.
While I poked fun at the panels with a couple of memes, I really think Dazai not being there has a lot to do with Fukuzawa's ability - remember that he knows the status of each member of his Agency; of course, with the exception of Dazai.
Also, I seriously don't know if the transfer is going to go through at all at this point. While the Mafia did rescue the Agency members from the Hunting Dogs, it was a traitor in their midst that assured their later capture, and the vampire infection completely ravaged the Mafia's ranks. As far as everyone knows now, it was Fukuzawa and the Agency that "saved the day". Do they still owe Mori? It seems unlike either of them to back out of a deal, but I'm honestly not sure.
If it does still go through, let's think hypothetically on who Mori might take based on what he'd be looking for in a potential transfer member.
Yosano: Obviously he wants Yosano back. But he can't get to her because Fukuzawa guaranteed it.
Dazai: Obviously he wants Dazai back. But I think due to the reasons above, Dazai is safe.
Kyouka: She just left. Also I think Kouyou understands that she's happier here and would not let this happen. Atsushi and Dazai would also not let this happen.
Kenji: Very strong, and recognized as such by Chuuya. However, I don't think his attitude is something that Mori would be looking for. He doesn't exactly scream "operating under cover of night" hahaha
Ranpo: I doubt it, but there could be some advantages. Mori would have another genius tactician for one. However, Ranpo's methods are far removed from Dazai's and Mori's own, and I think he'd have a hard time convincing Ranpo to do anything he doesn't want to... Ranpo is a detective. Case closed. Maybe if Mori had found him instead of Fukuzawa when he was young, but now? No.
Kunikida: This could be interesting. Kunikida is a very moral man; however, he is far from bound to the law (fully willing to break it if he disagrees or thinks it's necessary for the sake of his ideals) and has recently had his ideals and spirit damaged almost to the point of suicide. Transferring him would be devastating. I don't know that I see what Mori would get out of taking Kunikida though, other than weakening the Agency (remember that he's next in line to lead after Fukuzawa). I just don't think there's enough in it for Mori to bother. I also think taking Kunikida would piss Dazai off royally.
Tanizaki: The fan-popular choice. He does, admittedly, make the most sense. Multiple Mafia characters have seen and commented on his talent for assassination. His skills are very useful and his morals basically hinge on Naomi's safety. If Asagiri wanted to elaborate on Tanizaki's character, this would certainly be an interesting way to do it. If Mori can assure Naomi's safety, then he will have Tanizaki's loyalty and a powerful new assassin, and that is what Mori would ultimately be looking for.
Atsushi: Okay, hear me out. Mori has to be well aware of Dazai's creation of a new double black in Atsushi and Akutagawa. He knows full well how powerful the tiger is. Might it be useful to have a double black purely under his command once again? Now, I honestly believe that Mori understands the value of balance in these things and wouldn't take Atsushi so as to have their duo be part-Agency, part-Mafia in accordance with Natsume's tactics. We've also already seen mafia Atsushi in the Beast universe. However, this could be a really interesting way to have reader focus shift to exploring more of the Port Mafia by having our main character literally end up mired in that world. Mori has already worked with Atsushi before (against Lucy), and let's think of what he knows - Fitzgerald set a bounty on him, Dazai recruited him and partnered him with his former mentee, and he's able to work well with Akutagawa (who pretty notoriously isn't a team player). Mori may just find himself intrigued enough to see what the big deal is...

Just curious what you don't like about Cory/Topanga if you feel like talking about it!
hey, i don't mind!
first off i think boy meets world in the context of just a purely heterosexual show makes it age pretty poorly, and that all stems from cory and topanga. i know one of the writers said a while back that the writers room was torn between shory and corpanga, and tbh, rewatching as an adult, that's extremely evident. i'm not gonna make this post all about shory bc that's reductive but i am first and formost a shory girl and a firm believer that cory matthews is a gay man
so let's get into it.
i really really love s1/2 corpanga. idk if it's just bc ben/danielle felt more natural back then or if it's bc they actually allowed cory to be wrong and topanga to be right, but it's just so sweet. one of my all time fav ship moments from the show is the frickin sock basketball scene where they touch hands and he giggles. so adorable! but i think what really makes them suffer after s1 (and kind of s2) is just that they clearly made topanga a normal, kelly kapowski girl-next-door type to make her more "desirable" for the male audience. that could be an entire separate post, but it's so fucking obvious that that's what the change was and it sucks because topanga was great the way she was.
they're not like hatable in season 3 exactly, but the "old married couple haha look how old gross and boring they are" trope when they were legitimately sophomores was just weird? and this is a retrospect thing but i hate how the show just kept retconning shit and pretended they never broke up in season 3, as if a HUGE storyline and one of the most iconic episodes (the happiest place on earth) wasn't about them getting back together? and for me just the concept of the ~universe wanting them to be together~ over and over again is just so fucking lame when they were so toxic. (great video on this here)
they really don't do anything wrong in season 4 either, but a long walk to pittsburgh is honestly so beyond ridiculous LMAO. i know everyone talks about how romantic it is, but i hate it because topanga literally runs away and moves back to philly just for cory. i know they claim it's to finish at john adams too, but i would find that much more believable if they had developed topanga AT ALL outside of cory. we know almost nothing about her home life and they wrote trini out so we never even see any friends of hers! the trend of them fighting and talking down to amy about their love is so fucking stupid too. like you are sixteen. it is fine to love someone and want to be with someone, but amy is right that it's not healthy for them to be as obsessed with each other as they are. like cory literally doesn't know who he is outside of topanga and that's NOT healthy.
oh lordy. s5. i'm not going to get into how much i hate that shawngela (a MUCH happier, more interesting relationship) was reduced to "wanting to be corpanga" in both their intro episode and then fucking gmw, but even the "old married couple" stuff in "chasing angela" at the restaurant is so annoying. "last tango in philly" is one of my fav episodes, but it's the perfect example of how cory can never accept he's wrong. shawn tries to tell him they should stop, and he just tells shawn he knows nothing about relationships and keeps being a dick about topanga and her (obviously gay) friend. but obviously, you're here to hear about how i feel about the cheating. yes, cory cheated and he genuinely liked lauren. for the show to act like he didn't is just gaslighting their audience. and tbh? i think ben and linda cardellini had excellent chemistry (certainly more than he and danielle did at that point . . .) and i think it's completely healthy to date more than one person! it was nice seeing cory be able to open up and bond with someone else, and yes, what he did was cheating. just bc he changed his mind and decided he "couldn't live without topanga" (bless u probably queer writer for what u did w that line :') ) doesn't mean that it didn't happen. topanga had EVERY right to break up with him. it does piss me off that we barely saw topanga's reaction to the breakup when there was a whole ep dedicated to shawn's reaction (and i say that as the #1 shawn stan), but that show hated women lbfr. AND WHY TF WAS IT BAD FOR HER TO KISS JONATHAN JACKSON WHEN SHE AND CORY WERE BROKEN UP????? bc cory can't accept things not going his way and not having control. the "we are a masterpiece" scene makes me so fucking angry omg i cannot
and i mean, bro, the yale shit has been talked about to death, but topanga lawrence going to the same college as straight d-student shawn hunter has got to be the dumbest, most woman-hating shit the show ever did. love can survive long distance if you put the effort in, trust me. (yes i am aware that the show prob didn't want to separate their main couple, but s6 was almost entirely about shawn anyway so????)
then in seasons 6 and 7 we get into the "cory yelling at and publicly humiliating topanga" trend. "undapants" is iconic so i'm not gonna go into that episode (fuck you "take her back to your tornado infested trailer park" line!), but i can name at least seven occasions where cory pressures her into sex. and rider strong is right. it was extremely holier than thou how they constantly made it seemed like corpanga was better than shawngela for not fucking before marriage. like isn't there a line where they call shawngela sluts in s7? the whole honesty bit in "the truth about honesty" (admittedly one of my fav eps) is also just ridiculous bc both of them always get pissed off at the other one for being honest, even in the past. i've seen people get mad at topanga for throwing yale in cory's face but lbr, who didn't see that coming? i guess maybe it's a little weird bc she'd never been resentful about it before, but that's a HUGE thing in their relationship. and yes, it is weird that she's using his razor without his permission but again just the pressuring her to show him her ass is also fucking weird (it's also weird imo that they've been together "their whole lives" but they've only ever kissed, but again, holier than thou bullshit)
one thing i can say about how weak and uninteresting their relationship actually is is that their ENTIRE wedding episode is about shory, bc they are the much more compelling dynamic in cory's life. weirdly enough, i do actually really like cory's vows though?? on a shawn hunter stan note, oblig "that best man speech was bullshit" comment. it's completely normal and healthy to have a best friend outside of your partner? especially when you can't be honest with your partner. god i fucking hate that bullshit. just like how i hate in "seven the hard way/the war" how they portray cory abandoning his best friend/true life partner for topanga AND THEN IN FUCKING GMW THE BAD FUTURE FOR EVERYONE LITERALLY CAME TRUE!!!!!!! omg i will go insane if i think about that for longer than a few seconds.
end of post, but leaving this here

Okay I’m dying for this, but it’s totally optional and you don’t have to write it.
I need our Riddle Man to have a daughter (maybe 12ish age wise?) that is similar to him right? (They just won’t shut up—like getting excited about certain things won’t shut up—and other Eddie characteristics—such as sass master 3000). I want to know how other rouges would react to meeting and spending time with a child such as this. I need them to be annoyed but think it endearing at the same time. Maybe a little fic idk.
On a completely different note—your writing is amazing and I die every time I read something of yours. The way you write Riddler is top notch. Keep up the fantastic work 🥳
Okay so I took this as a scenario since you want multiple reactions. Loving this already hehehe. Also thank you so much, I will CRY 😭❤️
The Riddler was tough work to even breathe around. Therefore the thought of him reproducing and now as a twelve year old daughter was frightening. Although they'll try to shape her into a more tolerable person rather than tolerant since that's a lost cause. The Riddler's daughter was certainly a challenge but deep down, they couldn't help but feel blessed.
Scarecrow: He's always fixing their hair or picking at their clothes. It makes the Riddler feel like he's judging his parenting. "What do you say?" "Now." She remarked. Jonathan stares her down. "Dad says that manners are to be used for him and that no one else has earned them." "Your father is a narcissist and you know fine well that what your father says only fits his perception- not reality. You also know, I do not care if my phone rings or he comes to my home, he won't change my mind. He'll instead have fear toxin to the face. So I'll ask you again, what do you say?" "...Thank you." "You're welcome, you've proven yourself better than your father already." Jonathan replied. "Can I tell him you said that?" You asked. "Why else would I compliment you than knowing you'll tell him when you're home. Its one of the very few delights in my life, dear." It was true. Nothing made Jonathan happier than knowing every compliment he gave would be passed to the Riddler.
Two-Face: "Oh wow. I can't wait to give you back to your father." Harvey grumbled after another one of your uncalled for remarks. "We could slip something in a drink or give the kid a drink. She'll never know. " Two-Face offered. Harvey cannot believe he was capable of such a thought. "Your solution is to either drug the kid or get them drunk?" He deadpanned. "Oh suddenly morals are on the table?" Two-Face shot back. "Harv', I know what alcohol smells like." The girl spoke. Harvey hummed, acknowledging her input. "Dad says he doesn't want me touching the stuff until I'm thirty and that it ruins a quick intellect." She continued. "Your dad's up his own ass." Two-Face retorted. "Hey!" Harvey snapped at Two-Face.
Mad Hatter: The Riddler was very apprehensive about leaving you with Jervis given his mental state. Plus he thought you were a munchkin once upon a time. He claims its just a pet name but Edward isn't too sure. That wasn't even a wonderland themed reference? "Tea, my dear?" Jervis grinned. "Dad says you've to stop giving me so much sugar in my tea. That three is too much and just sickening." Jervis raised an eyebrow. "So can I have four sugars?" You asked hopefully and Jervis wasted no time in giggling with glee and complying. There were no rules with Jervis and all of Edward's rules were out the window the moment you crossed the threshold. Neither of you even tried to hide it and Jervis often had you back to the Riddler, bouncing off the walls with hyperactivity.
Penguin: Undisputed, he is Uncle Oz or Uncle Penguin. He and the Riddler have history and do consider each other some form of a friend. However the Riddler refers to him as Uncle Oswald. Oswald gives her money 9 times out of 10. Usually a ten or twenty and it never really goes acknowledged between the two rogues after the Riddler taught you manners...who are we kidding- it was Jonathan who did that. The Riddler hoped that seeing the Iceberg Lounge would satisfy her curious mind whilst and show her what not to be. "Dad, there's more chance that I'll be a redhead than grow up to be an old small man who resembles a penguin. Did you know red heads take one one to two percent of a population? That's the least common." "Yes, I did. I was the one who told you that and that's not what I meant! I'm referring to the women Oswald hires." Edward replied with frustration. "Oh...I liked the high heels of one of them. I reckon it'd make me the same height as you." He sighed. "No, never in your life. Over my dead body will I ever allow you to wear those." "Aunt Harley would." She retorted. "She isn't your aunt and I don't suggest following her footsteps. I won't take kindly to anyone treating my daughter like dirt and there are only so many places I can discreetly hide bodies." She paused. "I could put myself up for adoption? Seems fairly easy. I have your signature perfected." "Keep talking like that and I'll put you up for adoption myself." The Riddler huffed. "And stop forging my signatures! Who knows what nonsense you'd put my name to."
Mister Freeze: The Riddler made a mental note to keep Victor to a very last alternative. Not because he didn't trust Victor. He could believe you'd be very safe with Mister Freeze but you came back rather...well, depressed. Has had to call Jonathan a few times to make sure there isn't permanent damage. "Life is meaningless and we all die alone in the end." You deadpanned. "Did you know the average age for widowhood is fifty-nine? A females life expectancy is eight-two years old. Therefore, chances are high that I'll die alone." "Sweet girl, Nora isn't dead and her husband keeps her frozen until he creates a cure for her. Believe it or not, my dear, that isn't normal. Now go read your encyclopedia whilst I call Jonathan."
Joker: Has never met you and if the Riddler has anything to say about it, which he always does, the Joker will never meet his daughter.
Harley: Gets her to recite all she's learned about the mind. All the while she's doing the daughters hair. She always gives the girl back with a completely different hairstyle. The Riddler always notices and he points it out all the time. Harley insists, to Nygma's dismay, that his daughter calls her 'Aunt Harley'. "Aww! We gotta show puddin' how smart you are!" "Dad said i can't talk to him." Harley sighed in disappointment. "I know...can't it be our little secret?" "Dad said I've to call Uncle Jonathan if I'm in the same building as him." She said and Harley cursed under her breath. Harley is also the one that she goes to if she feels she needs a females advice. Which he secretly appreciates. Hormones are a bitch and sometimes he isn't the most equipped to deal with it.

a/n: long internal monologue sorry ;w; i like monologuing hh -- just platonic wug fic ft card games ! i like wug a lot and think that wug would make a great friend :3 no title bc idk what to call it lol
It had been a while since you left your colonists in the hands of your trusted crew - well, your trusted Celci, at least. You always felt she would be better in charge of a large group of people, or at the very least she would have a good eye for someone who would be able to run them well.
You? All you had were your handsome and/or beautiful looks, so people tended to trust you naturally. That might be why one of the many aliens you met on your journey was so excited for you to call them in to ask if you could join them while traveling. Wug was a good friend, always happy to help - and you were a curious space explorer, much happier to be out on a ship rather than leading a large group of people.
Wug was certainly an odd fellow, as were the other members of his race - most, if not all of them, were named Wug. It was confusing, not being able to understand the language of the Wugs, but it wasn't like any of them were trying to propose to you because of your outstanding looks or something. Or maybe they were - you couldn't understand them, after all.
Outside of your stops at intergalactic fast food restaurants and the occasional visit to check out an unknown planet, it was just you and Wug. The time was passed mostly with card games or route making, or with Wug telling you about what he did before you started to tag alone with him. It was hard to understand everything he said, what with Wug's little grasp of the English language, but you understood that he was sort of a wanderer, looking for uninhabited planets for his species. Well, it used to be any planet until you convinced Wug that there are definitely other planets that are good for his ever-expanding species that are uninhabited.
There were times where Wug would buy you random things, because "Wug saw this and thought of you, Captain!" You've told him before to call you by your first name, but Wug got embarrassed about the thought of it for some reason. Something about Wug customs or something like that.
You really didn't understand this odd fellow at times, but he was cute. Like a puppy. Man, you really did miss Chica. She was a great pup, easily the best of your crew. If you could have put her in charge of the colony you would have, but you settled for putting her as the vice-president - not that Celci agreed with it, but since she was the President, she could do whatever.
Anyway, back to the present - existing with Wug in Wug's spaceship. Rather, you and Wug were playing an intense card game that Wug grew up with. You hardly understood how to explain it, but if you had to guess it was kind of like Uno, except the goal was to make the other person lose all of their while only having less than five cards in your hand? It was difficult since you couldn't understand some of the wordier cards, but you matched patterns together once you were able to notice the similarities between certain cards.
"Uh, so..." Your brows furrow as you stare intently between your hand and the pile of cards in front of you. "This one." You slap down a card from your hand and look up, giving Wug a toothy grin.
"You are doing very good, Captain!" For some reason, it feels like Wug is trying not to hurt your feelings. Wug draws a card before placing one down. "It says to remove two of your cards."
So Wug does notice your trouble with trying to understand the cards. Wug has likely been laughing at you this entire time beneath his helmet, though you couldn't truly blame him - you would do the same if you played this game with your old crew.
"'Kay." You put two of your cards to the side - you and Wug had 3 cards left each, even with you drawing and placing down another card. "Go fish," you joke.
Wug gives off a confused aura - or, at least, you assume he does, so you explain the reference as he discards one card before drawing + placing another. 2 cards for him, 3 for you.
"Go... fish?" the alien responds, eyes flipping back and forth before landing on you.
You crack another toothy grin before looking intently at the card on the pile and the ones in your hand. This one looked... "This is the one you played before, right?" you ask, placing one that looked like the card from before down.
"Oh! That is a retrieve two! You have saved Wug from losing! Haha!" Wug seems very happy about this development, and though it seems that you will lose again (Wug - 10, You - 0), you don't really mind. His enthusiasm is cute. It makes you want to pet his helmet and give him snacks.
"Oh dang, guess I played the wrong card." The smile on your face doesn't waver as the two of you continue playing. Though you still have no grasp of what Wug's language actually is or how to read it whatsoever, you do start to recognize the difference between "retrieve" and "discard" even though the words for them are uncomfortably similar.
The round, of course, ended with Wug winning. He collects the cards to shuffle them and put them away, before looking at you seemingly expectantly.
"Yes, Wug?" you question, resting your chin in the palm of your hand.
"You said you would teach Wug 'go fish.'" Wug tilts his head ever-so-slightly, and you feel your chest fill with warmth. You get up to find your bag of miscellaneous items before pulling out a pack of cards that you were very familiar with, down to knowing which cards were what due to the slight rips and folds on some of them.
"Okay, bud," you say as you sit back down. You give a rough explanation of the game as you hand out the cards, before telling your space companion that he can show you the card he's asking for and you, in return, will tell him what the number/letter on it means.
This does, eventually, lead to him referring to certain individual letters by their card name for a while, though you do manage to correct Wug on it. You, being amazing, didn't mind it all too much. Wug was a friend and learning about him was an adventure all of its own, and you were happy to be able to learn what you could.

Unexpected Matrimony
Pairing: Captain Rex x reader
Word Count: ~1.9K
Tags: NSFW, slow-burn-ish (familiar with each other before the story), marriage for the mission, Rex sucks at flirting, reader teases the shit out of him, both are oblivious, PiV (wrap it up in rl), cum outside (whoa I know), some dom energy from Rex, not edited because this got rewritten three times already
A/N: Kinda find Rex hard to write, not being he's not amazing but because I feel like his character is a little more complex emotionally than some of the other clones? (I feel the same way about Echo, I'd love to write him but shit there's so many facets) idk either way - enjoy
Story below the cut
“So how’s it feel being the only clone trooper to be legally married?” You giggle, taking a sip of wine.
You had no idea why you and Rex getting married was so important to the mission but Anakin seemed pressed that you would say no. So much so that he didn’t tell either of you until Ahsoka let it slip on the ride here. While initially annoyed, you enjoyed Rex’s shocked face way too much.
“What the matter Captain? The idea of marrying me that appalling?” You elbowed him in the ribs, earning a hearty laugh from his crew.
He didn’t respond but looked even more flustered at your jesting. Well, there were certainly worse men in the Republic to be forced to marry than him.
Rex’s nervous chuckle brought you back to the moment.
“I have to admit, I never thought that would be something I experienced.” He rubbed the back of his head like he did when nervous.
Since when did you know that? You caught yourself. Being friends with Anakin and Padme meant you got more face time with the 501st than normal civilians so you and Rex weren’t strangers. You’d even accompanied them to 79s on more than one occasion. But Rex, while there, had always hung back a bit while you were there. Or at least that’s what his team told you.
Now it was just the two of you sitting in a honeymoon suite on some planet you’d never been to before while Anakin and the rest of the squad were traipsing around completing the mission. Maybe afterward he’d actually explain why you two were just sitting here. Surely Rex would be more useful helping out or at least happier than he seemed to be in your presence.
“Still bummed that it had to be me?” You circled back to your earlier joke.
Rex glanced up at you, his brown eyes searching your face. His face was hard to read, probably got plenty of practice with a general like Anakin.
“I definitely didn’t imagine it being you. But I wouldn’t consider that a bad thing.” His voice trailed off as he spoke, you almost couldn’t hear the last part.
“Aw well, I’m glad I’m not a complete letdown.” You laughed, happy to see you earned another blush from the man. “I guess the guys will never let you hear the end of this, huh?”
“I don’t mind. I get to rub it in their faces if anything.” Rex mumbled into his drink, a pink tint still coloring his face.
You giggled, biting your lower lips as you watched him. The muscle in his jaw was tensed as he swallowed, the tip of his tongue flicking across his lips. For a clone, he was so distinct and not just from the blond hair. The way he held himself was different, you’d noticed it the second you met him and he hadn’t disappointed since. You found her eyes dipping lower, enjoying the new sight of him without the top pieces of his armor on.
“You’re staring.” Rex’s voice brought you back to reality yet again.
“I can’t help it, you’re pretty good-looking you know.” You smirked, lifting your glass back up to your lips.
“You’re one to talk.” He chuckled. “You ever wonder why the boys are always inviting you out?”
You scoffed with a giggle, “here I thought it was because of my impeccable sense of humor.”
“I mean, you’re so much more than beautiful,” there was the neck scratch again. “You really haven’t noticed their flirting?”
You paused, considering the question.
“Nope, I just assumed they’re like that with all women.” You giggled, pausing a moment.
Maybe you should just go for it. What’s the harm? The poor guy was already married to you.
“To be honest I was probably watching you more than listening to them.” You feigned a cough before taking another sip of your drink.
Rex’s head snapped up.
“Why is that?”
“I told you, you’re a handsome guy.” You giggled.
Rex glanced back down at the floor for a second before standing from where he was leaning. Your eyes followed him, watching the way he moved toward you the way he always did. Shoulder’s back, spine straight, chin up. He paused in front of you before holding out a hand.
You took it without hesitation, allowing yourself to be pulled to your feet curious what he was up to. Maybe the impassive face wasn’t such a good thing. At least to you.
Rex inhaled sharply, this was the closest you’d been to him besides the wedding ceremony. He smelled like the military issue soap you’d come to associate with the troopers and you could catch a whiff of the whiskey he’d been drinking, a wedding gift from Anakin. Or a condolence gift, who knew with him.
“I’d like to kiss you if you’re not opposed,” Rex spoke formally, previous relaxed chatter seemed to be forgotten.
You paused for a moment, surprised at the sudden forward approach. Never once before did you think he would ever be genuinely interested in you. Especially after his teams’ comments about him being standoffish whenever you were around.
Rex’s blank face faltered, it was only a second but you saw the momentary collapse in confidence.
Fuck it.
You reached up, grabbing his shoulders before pushing your lips against his. He didn’t move for a second, seemly surprised by your actions. After a moment you felt arms circle your waist and pull you closer against his chest. You melted into the embrace, feeling the sinewy muscle through his blacks.
He reluctantly pulled away, eyes soft as he stared into yours.
“Why’d you stop?” You asked quietly, eyes flicking between his searching for an answer.
His lips crashed back into yours making your heart leap in your chest. A hand went to the back of your head, fingers knotting in your hair as his lips moved against yours. You looped your arms around his neck both of you pulling each other into yourselves.
Rex’s hands went to your thighs, lifting them so you could circle your legs around his waist. You paid no mind as he moved, just focused on his mouth as his tongue danced with yours.
Suddenly he broke away and dropped you onto the bed in the middle of the room. You gazed up at the captain to see him staring back with an adoring gaze that you had never seen before, not that you were complaining.
“I don’t know where you got the idea that I don’t like you.” Rex spoke in a husky tone. “But hopefully this clears that up.”
He leaned down and caged you down to the bed with his body, lips back on yours. You could feel your lips becoming raw from the attention but you didn’t want it to stop. It wasn’t long though before he moved to kiss down your jaw then neck to your shoulder where he bit down gently, sucking at your soft flesh.
You could feel the heat pool between your legs, your hands moving to his back as you moan. He bit down a little harder and you dug your nails into his back. The rumble of his groan could be felt against your skin before he moved to continue trailing kisses down between your breasts to your navel. You mentally cursed the dress that you were wearing, it was going to take way too long to get it off and you did not want to wait that long.
Rex on the other hand didn’t seem to mind as he reached for your calf, hand moving up your leg and under the dress skirts before stopping right above your knee. His eyes met yours again, unspoken question hanging in the air.
And then his comm rung.
“You have got to be kidding me,” you blurted out, sexual frustration clouding your mind.
Rex chuckled before reluctantly getting up and retrieving the device from where his armor was. He walked back over to where you were, now sitting up.
“General Anakin?” Rex answered.
“Hey Rex - sorry for ditching you two, we needed a convincing cover for being planet-side. Are you two both still alive?”
You could hear hushed laughter in the background, gazing up at Rex you could see his face starting to flush again. He was so lucky color didn’t show well over holo or else he’d never hear the end of it.
“Yes sir.” He answered curtly, eyes darting down to look at you with a hint of a smile on his face.
“Good, we’ll be back in about a half-hour to get you guys. Hang in there.” Anakin said before signing off.
Both of you stood in silence for a moment before you smirked and stood up next to him.
“I don’t know about you but I think that means we still have some time to kill.”
Rex reached around your back to unlace the back when you pushed him down onto the bed. He looked up at you with an arched brow.
“Still not enough to get this thing off,” your smirk remaining on your face as you move to straddle his waist.
His eyes widened momentarily before returning your smirk and pulling you into another bruising kiss. You moved your hips just enough for him to be able to push the waistband of his blacks down before you felt his hard cock press against your damp panties. His fingers pushed the fabric aside as you reached down to guide his cock.
You could feel your own blush crawling along your cheeks as you watched Rex’s face. His eyes were hungry as they locked between your legs as you sat on his cock, he moaned and dropped his head back onto the bed as you bottomed out. Moving your hips slightly earned another loud groan from him emboldening you to set a slow teasing pace.
Suddenly he gripped your hips before sitting up so your bodies were flush against each other again.
“We don’t have time for that mesh’la and I’m not leaving here until I feel you cum on my cock.” His hips gyrating into yours, making sure to hit every sensitive spot inside you.
His hand went to your clit as you rode him, the heat coiling quickly in your belly. You could hear him murmuring in Mando’a as your pussy clenched around him, the tension threatening to snap.
Rex’s comm rang again.
You paused, beyond frustrated.
“I didn’t say stop mesh’la,” Rex growled, hips snapping up into you again encouraging you to keep going.
“But Skyw-” You started before Rex grabbed the back of your head, pulling your face to his in a searing kiss.
The tension building snapped and you felt your orgasm wash over you like a wave, your legs shaking from the force. Rex pushed his hips up into you twice more before pulling you off him, ropes of cum spilling down his cock as you two panted.
Rex moved you to his side as he got up and grabbed the comm, yet again, slipping his cock into his pants before answering.
You didn’t bother to eavesdrop this time, laying back on the bed letting the blissed-out feeling numb your senses. Soon Rex was standing over you, a genuine smile on his face.
“It’s time to go mesh’la.” His voice was soft, as he stroked your still exposed thigh.
You smiled back, sighing deeply. “One more kiss?”
Rex chuckled, grabbing your hand to help you stand. He pressed his forehead against yours before placing a soft kiss on your lips.
“There will be plenty more later mesh’la."

Prince Charming
🎉150 Follower Celebration!! Day 7
Chip Taylor x Reader (68 Kill)
Sickeningly sweet fluff, hurt comfort
A/N: sorry idk how this got to be so short but it felt perfect as is 🥺
Tumblr media
You hear the front door open and close as you await the sweet greeting of your boyfriend, Chip, but you’re met instead with an unusual silence.
“Chip, baby?”
When you poke your head into the living room, he’s already slipped into the bedroom and shut the door.
After a few soft knocks you hear a quiet “come in.”
You enter to see him sitting on the edge of the bed with his face buried in his hands. Approaching with caution, you ease onto the bed next to him before rubbing soothing circles on his back. You can tell he’s beginning to relax.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” You question.
“Just work stuff. I think I just want today behind me. I need to get my mind off of it.”
“I think I can help with that.”
You give him a gentle smile as he slowly lifts his head to meet your gaze and return it.
“I have an idea...Hang on!” You bounce off into the kitchen and grab an ice cold beer in his favorite brand. Making your way into the bathroom you grab bubble bath soap, candles, everything you need to make it nice for him. After the tub is warm and practically overflowing with bubbles, you go into the bedroom and practically drag him off the bed.
His eyes water just a bit at the sight before him. He’s still not used to the way you pamper him, making him feel like he’s special every day, because he is.
Once he’s in and looking perfectly content, sipping on his beer, you pop up to head into the kitchen. Chip whines a bit at the thought of you leaving him again so soon. Leaning down to ruffle his hair you give him a quick peck on the cheek.
“I’ll be right back, baby.”
You return a few minutes later with a mischievous smile on your face. He knows you won’t tell him what you were up to until you're ready. After he’s all clean and pruned, you help him out of the tub and let him change into his favorite comfy pj’s. You disappear once more before you come back and join him in the living room. With some coaxing you convince him to sit on the floor in front of you, and he’s immediately giddy to find out why as your begin towel drying his hair for him.
One thing about Chip, he’s very affectionate, like a puppy. He needs lots of physical touch and reassurance, and he’s loyal as hell. He closes his eyes, leaning his head back into your touch in complete bliss.
After a few minutes he does the adorable little nose scrunch that you love so much. You can’t help but lean forward to kiss it. He reaches up to pull you closer, and before you know it you’re in an upside down kiss. You both start giggling as he lets you go. You take a minute to adore just how pretty he is with a blush on his cheeks and lips looking extra pink and soft. He gazes up at you from under his unfairly long eye lashes. There’s that adorable nose scrunch again.
“Do I smell- is that what I think it is?”
You give a very unconvincing shrug and wink before skipping off to the kitchen. Minutes later you return with a fresh batch cookies. Chip’s eyes must have doubled in size when he looked at them, but it was nothing compared to the love in those beautiful, warm, brown eyes when he looked back at you.
“Peanut butter and chocolate chip for my Chip!”
He holds his arms open and you know what he wants. You set the cookies on the coffee table before snuggling into his side. You both begin digging into the warm snack. You reach for the remote to turn on one of his Disney favorites, Lady and The Tramp. He says it reminds him of the two of you. You disagree, you insist that he’s your Prince Charming.
“You didn’t have to do all this for me.” He whispers in your ear.
“Chip, the only thing that might make me happier than just being with you, is getting to do the things that make you happy, to show you how much I love you.”
“You certainly never let me forget it.” He looks at you as though you’re the best thing he’s ever laid eyes on. You watch as his tongue pokes out to lick some melted chocolate off his lips before leaning in to kiss your cheek, your nose, everywhere he can reach. Your face almost hurts from how hard you’re smiling, giggling as he practically smothers you with his sweet, little kisses before pulling you in for one that lingers on your lips. Your fingers find your way into his soft, fluffy hair, doing anything you can to hold onto the kiss for as long as possible. If it were up to you, you’d never come up for air. He pulls back to look into your eyes once more.
“That’s so you never forget Y/N, how much I love you too.”

title: Regret Nothing || Hanamaki x fem!Reader a/n: man idk anymore just thinking about Makki 24/7 is my job now word count: idk it’s a drabble tags: fluff, domestic au, angst if you squint, dirty joke at the end character(s): Takahiro Hanamaki (hq)
Tumblr media
The one sided shouting match in the living room sounded lively as ever for a Saturday.
Peeking your head around the corner to see your kids pointing at the tv going on about something you were destined to be filled in about later. What you didn’t see was your husband. Certain he was apart of the foolery going on if they were complaining about videogames.
“You two, where’s your father?” All eyes are torn from the screen immediately to look at you.
That classic unenthused look they inherited from their father was shared between both tweens before shrugging.
“Dad got a text from uncle Tooru and told us to keep playing.” Your oldest shrugged it off. Returning to the two player game where the youngest had already pressed resume on their game.
“I think he went to the bathroom.” Your youngest popped off without tearing their attention away from the screen.
“Dad had to poop probably.” An addition by the oldest.
You sigh with an eye roll, “Thank you detectives. Make sure we get you two a puzzle game next time for those skills you got there.” The threat of education on their free time earned a groan from both of them. Making you grin and ruffle their hairs before going to find their father.
As suspected Takahiro wasn’t in the bathroom. If gaming time was on the line you’d seen that man out weight both kids to prove he was the ultimate winner. So it was weird that he’d told them to keep playing. On a Saturday too. This was their cheat day to play together. So when it was mentioned a text from Tooru distracted him. You were a little worried since most the time you were included on those groups texts.
Running through what could have been sent, nothing really comes to mind. Issei had said both Hajime and Tooru were doing good last Sunday when everyone had dinner. And if it was an emergency then of course Takahiro would have told you.
Combing through your own thoughts to find your husband not in the bathroom like both kids had told you. You find him back in your bedroom in fact. To your surprise actually.
“Hey, the kids are loosing that stupid game of theirs. Did they finally beat you?” You ask with a smile as you approach him seated on the bed. More than surprised by the mystery text, you’re unsure of what to think when you see old albums at your husband’s feet. With the oldest one in his lap. Open to pictures of graduation of all things. A crease forms on your forehead and you rub your hand along his shoulders, “What, did big star-kawa need an old photo for a cheesy interview?”
No response. Your frown deepens and you take a seat next to him.
“Love what’s up with you the kids said Tooru texted you and-”
“Do you regret marrying me?”
Blindsided by such a question. You take a moment to even comprehend the kind of inane question that was. Instead you can’t fathom why he even asked that.
“Takahiro what are you even talking about?” You look at the album spread in his lap then to his face, “What crap are you even on to ask that?”
He reached up and palmed the back of his neck with a little shrug, “I’m sorry...I just...Tooru sent a text about the anniversary of his first medal. It wasn’t that bad but Issei last week at dinner. And Hajime opening another fitness center....You could have done so much better than me y’know? Living abroad or at least living some place with three times as much space and-”
“Hah!”
Certainly not the reaction the man was looking to hear. It was enough that he took his eyes off the old photos to look at you literally snorting at his words. His turn to frown Takahiro didn’t see what was so funny about it all. To him it felt true.
“First off, why look at this one? I hated your uniforms so much.”
“Hey!”
“Oh just hush-” You take the album from his lap and tuck it back in the box. Only to thumb through to the third one in. Plucking it from the confines of old musty box and setting it on your lap, “Now this one.”
Takahiro frowned, “I mean, that’s not even the wedding album. What one is that one? The kids or moving or-”
“It’s my favorite album is what it is.” You answer him as you swipe your hand over the face of it.
Unlike the others which were neatly labeled. This one bore no name. No baby’s first. No wedding photos. No post high school. No nothing. It was nameless and blank.
Grumbling Takahiro was still upset that you blew him off. Even more so when you opened to the middle of the album at random to what was clearly a set of blurry pictures. To the untrained eye this was the reject pile if there ever was one.
“Do you remember that one?” You ignore his sour face and point at the waterlogged picture of what appeared to be a bowl of fruit.
Scrutinizing it a bit closer he had to think a moment, “...that was that fake fruit bowl my sister thought would be funny to give us for our first apartment....god but the photo got wine on it after that one stay at home date we had.”
“That was such a nice bottle of wine.” You shook your head, “A real shame we spilled it.”
“We?” He snorted, “I told you that kitchen was too small for decorations and to dance.”
“Oh how about this one?” You point at the rabid blurred face of both of your kids. Somewhere in the three to six range. The picture clearly unmarked by a date but with the way your oldest had a missing front tooth and the littler of the two sporting bangs almost identical to Takahiro’s in high school, it was clear they were still little.
“That was my oldest sister’s birthday party god they ate so much cake I could have killed her.” Takahiro groaned at the war flash back of the mess and trouble of sugar high kids at their aunt’s house.
“How about this?” You pointed at a picture.
One that stumped him in fact. Takahiro leaned down and tried to make out what it was with the awful sun glare that skewed literally everything in the photo. Not to mention the wine stain from ages ago. Meaning this was an old photo he was drawing a blank on.
“...is that you or me? Where we were? I don’t even remember that.”
A smile blossoms on your face and you lean your head into your husband’s shoulder, “That was right after graduation...we had that big trip planned but everyone coped out at the last second. So you and I went instead.”
“Oh the seagull thing!”
You nod and trace your fingers over the assorted poorly taken pictures. Some of them newer and some of them older. All of them clear rejects to the real well done albums. But still something about them made you happier to look at than anything else.
“If you’re gonna ask me if I regret marrying you. Then I want you to ask yourself the same thing.”
For a second he looked appalled, “Of course not! You are my everything! Marrying you was one of the best days of my life, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
“See,” You close the book and take a moment to cup his round cheeks in your hands, “So that’s your answer.”
Takahiro closed his eyes and let his face rest in your palms, “But...you could have been traveling the world...living in luxury. I just...I could have done more for you. Could have been more.”
“Takahiro Hanamaki-” Your stern tone made him open his eyes to you, “Outside this room are two of the most smartest, annoying little mini you’s I’ve ever met and I would have never had them if you didn’t give them to me. They’re that wonderful because of you. Because you’re their dad. Because you’re an amazing father and an even more amazing husband.” You take a moment, swiping your thumb over his forever chubby cheek and smiling to keep yourself from tearing up, “You’ve given me the world. And then some. I’ve never regretted a day in my life with you in it. Being with you...I regret nothing.”
Choked up for a moment. The man laughs, be it too keep from crying himself. Takahiro wipes at his face and pushes his forehead against yours, “Even though I’m just a lousy stay at home dad huh?”
Again you laugh, this time pulling his face close to yours so you can kiss him hard and long. It draws out for a second before you look up at him and peck him once more on the lips, “I’ve never seen anything sexier than you taking care of those kids. Fuck living in Argentina. The sexiest place in the world is right here with you.”
Takahiro’s face breaks out to the biggest grin as he wraps his arms around you, “You uh...was pretend to make another one of those mini me’s you think are so cute?”
“They’re on the second boss fight,” You grin with a kiss to his cheek, “Hurry up and shut the door and we can do more than pretend.”

Idk if you'd be willing to write this, but could you possibly write something from the Yesterday AU where Ringo breaks down and tells George about the universe he's from? Up to you what George's reaction is and whether or not he even slightly believes him. (Unless you've already written this, in which case could you possibly share a link?)
“Look at this,” Ringo says excitedly, showing George his phone. “I found Julian on Facebook. I messaged him and he replied!”
George frowns as he looks at the phone screen. “Julian who?”
“Julian Lennon.”
When George still looks at him with confusion, Ringo’s heart sinks.
“Remember your friend Paul from school?” Ringo says gently. “The one I was asking about but you didn’t know how to get in touch with him? Julian is his son. I managed to find him.”
George’s expression is a little more unreadable now. His gaze shifts from the phone to Ringo’s face, and he almost looks a little worried.
“I don’t understand,” George says softly. “Why are you so desperate to get in touch with Paul? He was someone I was friends with at school and you only met him a couple of times. I haven’t spoken to him for fifty years.”
“Don’t you want to see him again?” Ringo asks, but he knows he can’t keep this up much longer.
“Not really. He’s never tried to get in touch with me. He left Liverpool after he married his husband. John what’s-his-name. Our friendship just fizzled out and I’m fine with that. So why are you so interested in finding him?”
Ringo knows the time has come. He’s going to have to say something. He wants to say something. He wants to tell George everything.
Ringo takes George’s hands in his own. “Listen to me, sweetheart. I’m going to tell you something, and it’s going to sound crazy. Let me just talk though, and then you can ask questions. I need you to just trust me. You know I’d never lie to you, don’t you?”
George looks a little frightened now. “I know. Jesus, Ritchie. What is it?”
Ringo takes a deep breath. “Okay. Until about four months ago, I was living a very different life. A life where you and I had careers in a very successful band, and Paul and his husband John were a part of that band too. We were called The Beatles. We were rich and famous. We were one of the most influential bands in the music business. You and I were still married and we still had our children. But we had a very different life. And then about four months ago I woke up one day and...well. I woke up to this life. It’s as if The Beatles never existed. Nobody seems to have heard of us. Well...except this kid who seems to have stolen all our songs and recorded them himself. Anyway. I thought that maybe if I could get in touch with John and Paul...maybe they might remember too. Maybe I could find out more about what happened and what caused all this.”
George frowns as he listens to this. Ringo prays that maybe George’s belief in reincarnation and previous lives might possibly be to his advantage here, but right now his husband is looking at him as though he’s crazy.
“Ritchie,” George says softly. “I know you hate doctors, but I really think we should see one. You’re making no sense, and you’ve been so forgetful lately.”
“Because this isn’t the life I’m used to,” Ringo replies. “This isn’t my life.”
George looks a little hurt at that. He sniffs and his eyes glisten a little. “So you want to go back to this other life? Can’t say I blame you. It certainly sounds a lot better than what you have here.”
Ringo knows how this must sound to George. He knows George must think that Ringo is so desperate to escape this mundane life that he’s concocted a fantasy reality in his head.
“Actually it isn’t,” Ringo says softly. “Not anymore.” He reaches out to caress George’s cheek. “You see, in this other life, you died when you were 58 years old. Our life in the limelight meant you smoked and used drugs a lot, and you died of cancer. I’ve spent the last eighteen years heartbroken.”
There are tears trailing down George’s cheeks now. Ringo wipes them away with his thumb.
“I don’t understand,” George whispers. “If you were so heartbroken...why would you want to go back to that?”
Ringo presses their lips together gently. “I don’t, sweetheart. I don’t want to go back. I’m so much happier now that I’ve got you back. I’ve loved the last four months. I love our life together here. And we may not be rich and famous here, but it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this free and this safe. I don’t want things to change. I just want to find out more about what happened because I’m afraid I’ll wake up one day and I’ll have lost you again.”
George wraps his arms around Ringo. “You’re scaring me, Ritchie. You’re really fucking scaring me.”
Ringo doesn’t know what else he can say to make George believe. He doesn’t know what he can do to reassure George that he isn’t just a crazy old man.
So Ringo pulls George close and sings softly in his ear.
Something in the way he moves
Attracts me like no other lover
George freezes in his arms.
Something in the way he woos me
I don’t want to leave him now
You know I believe and how
There’s recognition in George’s eyes when he pulls away. As if he’s had a sense of deja vu and he’s trying to put his finger on where he’s heard this before.
“You wrote that,” Ringo says. “For me.”
“Ringo,” George whispers in a trembling voice.
That’s the first time George has called him Ringo in the last four months.
“Yes,” Ringo says, pulling George close as they both start to sob.

TOP 10 MANHWAs
if anything good came out of 2020, it’s my discovery of manhwas.
well, it’s not like i’ve never read a single manhwa in the past 15+ years but tbh, the ratio of manhwa:manga i consume on a weekly basis has jumped exponentially this year. previously it was like 1:99 and now it’s like 90:10 LMAO.
so, just to remind myself that the world is still full of good things, i had to make this list. which i will probably edit in the future, if i can be bothered to. :)
anyhow, this list was not made in any particular order, just whichever came into mind. it’s loooong so be prepared! (I’ve read way more titles than mentioned but just included the ones worth checking out)
for whoever stumbles across this list, i hope some of these resonate with you and i hope they make you as happy as they made me.

1. Ebony
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/41838/ebony
Bahahah omg he looks evil there! But our dearest archduke is hardly that aww. Soz, I just ripped off the covers of the manhwa cos I can’t find a panel I liked more than another. I mean, this manhwa is a GEM. I can’t even begin to describe this because everything about it blew me away. This is not something you read when you are craving for fluff, or just wanna have something brainless after a hard day at work or if you just wanna have some eye candy lol. This is something you pick up on a weekend, when you have time, because you need those hours to digest, appreciate, clutch your chest, tear a little because you find yourself falling in love with these characters. It doesn’t have any of that cliche isekai, romance, revenge themes going on. It has a solid plot, backed by incredible characters, beautifully woven by the authors and artist with incredible pacing that keeps you on your toes and keeps you looking forward to the next chapter. Maybe I would have been happier if I found it after it was completed lol. HAVE I CONVINCED YOU ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU WANNA READ IT?! like, idk, just go. JUST GO READ IT GDI.
p.s. it says there romance but naaaaaaah, dont go in with that expectation. :) this story is so much more than that.
2. Bring the love
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/44472/bring-the-love
This...this!!! THIS MANHWA NEEDS MORE LOVE. If you need a lot of fluff, a little, ok maybe quite a bit of sadness and tragedy, sweet sweet romance, cutie pies, please, look no further!!! Again, pacing, character development are so important to me and this manhwa aces it. I love the 2 MCs very much. And the side characters too. :)
3.  A Stepmother's Märchen
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/39474/a-stepmother-s-m-rchen
When I first read this, i fucking cried. like please don’t ask me why. it’s not like its an absolute tragedy but I was just rooting for the MC so much and I really want for everything to go her way. That’s how much I adore this MC!!! I LOVE HER. I LOVE HER MORE THAN YOU DO NORA! HAHAHHA. okay soz. I need to keep this spoiler-free.
Anyhoo, there is nothing typical about this time travel plot. Sure, she goes back to try to undo the stuff that went wrong but phew, she certainly changed things so much everything that comes her way have made it so her previous experiences can hardly help aaaaaaand that’s what makes it fun! I sometimes wish the pacing could be a little more consistent, and there could be more characters I could love a little more wholeheartedly (so i wont have to be in so much despair when i read this sometimes lol) but omg the art, isn’t it pretty?! I’ve re-read this soooooo many times but the art blows me away all the time. And have I already mentioned how much I love her?! I LOVE YOU SHULI! AND I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY!
4.  Lady Baby
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/34691/lady-baby
I literally LOL-ed when I saw this cover. WHO THE HELL ARE THEY. WHAT LADY BABY?! ehehehe. okay anyway, uhm, this is already incredibly popular. im not sure if i need to elaborate but yes, it’s adorbs!!! i dont think i like the MC as much as i love her family lol. and everyone else who adores her. im looking forward to when they get older. :) actually not really. please stay cute for as long as yall can! but yeah, i do wish the plot can move a lil faster. i want to see more character development in the other kids too COME ON!
5.  Death Is the Only Ending for the Villainess
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/47754/death-is-the-only-ending-for-the-villainess
am i allowed to reveal how shallow i am rn? like the previous choices were all like ‘wow-deep-plot’, ‘wow-character-development’ and this one i just included cos of AESTHETICS ALONE?! the novel covers are breathtaking!!! the manhwa art is amazing as well. and the harem is great! LOL. as for plot... uhm... it’s alright. it’s pretty engaging and i quite like the MC, she’s smart and independent and i love how she views them all antagonistically at all times HAHAHHA. her past is kinda... weird though and i do wish they’d stop referencing it. cos... girl why do you wanna go back to reality!!! stay here! it’s way more exciting!
i love the whole isekai/reincarnate/transmigration theme and this is honestly one of the better, not-so-cliche or cheesy ones HA.
6.  Beware of the Villainess!
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/47286/beware-of-the-villainess
do you already see the whole villainess theme?! am i suppose to start feeling embarrassed about my choices?! NO! cos this one is AWESOME!
again, another wildly popular title. for good reasons. it’s hilarious, our MC is as real and candid as it gets and LOOK AT THAT BLUE HAIRED BEAUTY. DO YOU SEE HIM?! IMPLANT HIM INTO YOUR MEMORY NOW!
it’s highly entertaining and breaks all isekai-reincarnation-villainess plot stereotypes. definitely one of the titles i look forward to every week.
7.  Who Made Me a Princess
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/32506/who-made-me-a-princess
what? why did i choose this?
BECAUSE OF CLAUDE OF COURSE. ahahaha. okay aside from the amaaaaaaazing art and the beautiful people, the plot is not too bad. a little extreme at times but it’s interesting enough to keep me going. it’s currently on hiatus though and i was highly annoyed by how the first season ended. (YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? NOTHING.)
i hope the plot can move faster in the next season! and that our dearest MC athanasia can you know, finally be a little more useful... like omg just tell lucas already!!! and tbh girl, no matter which guy you choose, i approve. :D
8.  The Flower That Was Bloomed by a Cloud
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/37648/the-flower-that-was-bloomed-by-a-cloud
i featured this before, mostly out of frustration HAHAHA. do you see why i chose this cover?! yeah, i support this (unpopular) pairing okay! the other one is doomed!!! no matter what the author is trying to do now!! I DONT SUPPORT IT!!! lol.
anyway, i had to feature this cos the art is unique! and the story is great. :) and i looooooove listening to the ost while i read it. it starts out kinda slow but as the pace picks up, you won’t be able to stop. and you find yourself conflicted at various points. it did win an award for a reason.
no matter what, i still think dowun is best for her okay. it’s dowun or nothing. he’s devoted to her, we all know that! he just needs to ditch that annoying female guard!!! ok yknw what, maybe nothing is better. :/ *cries*
9.  Solo Leveling
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/31477/solo-leveling
why do i even bother? this manhwa is popular enough.
the art is great. the MC is great. i use him and his gang as my wallpaper.
im just not sure i like how this season’s plot is progressing. :/ but i guess it brings us nearer to solving the mystery in the first leg of the manhwa. i just enjoyed the whole part of him leveling up and now that he isn’t really leveling up anymore... idk. am i hoping for more plot shit like bleach (oh wow now u quincy?)... idk man. anywho, no regrets starting on this series and marathon-ing it to death.
cross fingers the plot picks up and doesnt get too complicated for its own good.
10.  The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion
Tumblr media
https://mangadex.org/title/31606/the-reason-why-raeliana-ended-up-at-the-duke-s-mansion
okay, tbh, by the time i reached 10, i still have like 15 other series i was considering LMAO. i even considered lengthening this top 10 to top 15. but that would just be more of me and my nonsense. so... why did i choose this?
COS I LOVE THE 2 MCs!!! they’re adorable. the plot is again, kinda far-fetched at times (i literally laugh my head off at some parts) but it’s isekai-reincarnation okay! anything is possible in whatever magical crap country you end up in! lol. and i like how straightforward it is... in the sense there’s no 2nd lead. like okay i mean they are there but we all know they have no chance. oops. sorry!
and cos i can’t give up on the other titles i have, imma just list them down, without pictures... cos im tired. HA.
11. Doctor Elise
https://mangadex.org/title/29474/doctor-elise
Kudos to the huge improvement in art style lmao. The good... lovable MCs, engaging plot. The bad... sometimes lengthy, incredulous medical moments (i work in the medical field so i... idk. sometimes this borders on iryu LMAO and i need to remind myself this is romance) otherwise, this is a highly highly entertaining read.
12.  Seduce the Villain's Father
https://mangadex.org/title/46775/seduce-the-villain-s-father
This is another of my ‘father-love’ whims. MC is adorable and ML is handsome. enough said.
13.  The Villainess Lives Twice
https://mangadex.org/title/49644/the-villainess-lives-twice
This is like a lesser version of Ebony and Bring the Love combined HAHAHA. The plot and premise is great and it’s awesome to marathon! I don’t find myself loving the MC as much as I should but the ML is a darling! I just find her a little toooooooo gloomy. Like come on girl, be more spunky!
14.  The Stereotypical Life of a Reincarnated Lady
https://mangadex.org/title/46790/the-stereotypical-life-of-a-reincarnated-lady
I dont know why I like this so much HAHAHAHA. It hardly has a plot. I just find the MC and ML amusing i guess lol.
15.  I'm Stanning the Prince
https://mangadex.org/title/45586/i-m-stanning-the-prince
Sometimes I wonder if I should be ranking this higher but I kinda feel this manhwa is trying to achieve too much with an underpowered MC. I love her... but I just don’t like how she’s just a pawn of everyone else and I dont know how she can change this situation of hers. It’s cute though. the MC and ML.  and the ML reminds me so much of american/jap Mackenyu.
16.  The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass
I HAD TO. the art is so pretty! but girl, dont use the hour glass so much! you look a little too old! i would appreciate it if MC stops basing too much of her moves on the “past” tho like idk you are gonna sound unoriginal soooooon like develop your own thoughts soon okay? <3
17. Inso's Law
ANOTHER ONE. omg. im a lil on the fence regarding this but i like MC too much. and her harem LOL. i dont see where the plot is going either but i just hope for a happy end... ):
18.  Why Are You Doing This, Duke?
HAHAHA. this is sooooo sooooooo cute, i would have ranked it top 15 if it wasnt licensed by tapas tho cos they are a joke. WHY NOT TAPPY GDI.
19.  Miss Not-So Sidekick
Uh-oh. Is this a top-20 list now? anyway, the MC for this series is GOLD. im not liking where it’s currently heading tho thus the lower ranking.
20.  IRIS - Lady with a Smartphone
omg IVE NEGLECTED THIS FOR TOO LONG. lemme go buy more chapters hahahaha. it’s a tad too lengthy... otherwise i like the MC and yummy ML!
still not enough?
Special Mentions - Okay, these will be unranked cos I don’t think these are that good but probably still worth a read.
I've Become the Villainous Empress of a Novel - this is new, im looking forward to how it progresses wheeeee.
Lady to Queen - It’s a ruthless manhwa. There was a point i started reading all sorts of sadistic content (i was running out of content i swear) and this was one of the better ones. I appreciate the MC very much. the plot now is a little weird and im a bit wary of the MC’s sister... hopefully the ML can be more useful. he’s pitiful though. but dude come on, dont rely on the wrong gal.
Goodbye, In-law - I’m not sure if i like the current progress buuuuuuut MC and ML are cute so who cares.
The Duchess' 50 Tea Recipes - plot is still engaging. MC and ML are cute. i dont know where the plot is heading towards though.
A Falling Cohabitation - this is interesting and fun but a lil lengthy.
Light and Shadow - the sequel is out!!! i highly enjoyed this entire series!!! i would have probably ranked it a lil higher if i did this post earlier but too many series have overtaken this in my heart lol.
This Girl Is a Little Wild - is the hiatus ending yet? i would add it back to top 20 if it came back LOL. it’s highly entertaining tho. ML is adorable.
The Duchess With an Empty Soul  - pretty nice. MC and ML are a little boring. i think it can end soon. LMAO.
A Capable Maid - it’s amusing how she gets her powers for all sorts of situations lol. the prince is creepy tbh. and im secretly rooting for the other king hehe.
Beware of the Brothers! - it’s cute and heart-wrenching at the same time! not too sure im digging the latest plot development but okay... i’ll take it. they’re all cuties.
Living as the Tyrant's Older Sister - hehehe. it’s cute. duke is kinda silly but the latest chapter made me squeal!!!
The Evil Lady's Hero  - idk where the plot is going but MC and ML are adorable!!!
The Dragon Next Door - HAHAHA. it’s hilarious.
The Youngest Princess - she’s growing uppppp noooooooooooo
Virtues of the Villainess - ginger is hilarious. i dont see where the plot is going tho... and cant say i like the ML yet. i dont even get to see him much, hello?!
The Justice of Villainous Woman - pretty wholesome... i like the MC! (the ML is fine. no one else to contend with so...) can u end already?! lol.
Amina of the Lamp - hey, what happened to this? it’s pretty inconsistent but i do like the MC and ML... and the art...
The Villain's Savior - this is some sadistic shit. i reserve it for when i feel sadistic. i pretty much wanna see MC happy but idk if she’s making the right choices. :/
I Don't Want to Be Empress! - HAHAHAHA uhm it’s getting interesting. i just want ML to step up more...
La dolce vita di Adelaide - I FINISHED THIS! and it’s wholesome, feel-good and cute. some parts felt a lil extra but ah whatever.
The Black Haired Princess - plot. move. faster!!! otherwise the MC and ML are pretty cute.
The Abandoned Empress - im a lil on the fence but i know how popular this series is. it started out HORRIBLE. i hated the ML so much. and then i found the green hair boy creepy. like MC, you need better taste in boys. it’s certainly getting more interesting now though. so please, continue to make my money’s worth!!!
Lucia - i. am. not. guilty. of. anything. *smut warning* anyway go read the novel. it’s better. hehehe.
What's Wrong with Secretary Kim - i do not need to elaborate any further.
Past loves
I created this section just to remind myself, that what i could like one day, i could hate the next LOL.
The Monster Duchess and Contract Princess - I know this is wildly popular. but i lost interest in it once she grew up. i dont think she’s particularly lovable. soz.
Survive as the Hero's Wife - another popular choice. I find the plot kinda boring now. MC and ML are cute though.
Sincerely: I Became a Duke's Maid - another popular one. again, boring plot. like cant it end yet? oh you mean we need to wait for the real female lead to show up? dont need luh.
I Am a Child of This House - wow. the plot is shit now. and i do not support the MC and her guard. soz. she’s OVERPOWERED tbh.
This Is an Obvious Fraudulent Marriage - idk what happened but my enthusiasm for this died.
Charlotte and Her 5 Disciples - i don’t get it. i dont get their obsession for her.

Hi! Idk if ur still doing ace prompts, but ace stephen with spiderstrange please!
I am always down for ace prompts!
Warning for some mild sexual content
Stephen had never been made to feel cowardly before, yet here he was, a coward. He and Peter had been in a romantic relationship for many months now. They shared something wonderful, something beautiful, something that made Stephen feel warm and loved and respected in a way that he didn't know he needed until he had it. The only issue was honesty. Because as much as Stephen loved Peter, he didn't desire a sexual relationship and Peter very clearly did.
When they kissed, Peter pressed against him, his hard length against Stephen's thigh. His hands slid down Stephen's chest and back up his thighs. And Stephen did nothing in response. He felt nothing. Well, every now and then his body would respond to those touches, but his head wandered to thoughts of magic texts or that tricky brain surgery he had performed some years ago that still pricked his curiosity. And Peter always noticed. He always sighed and pulled away. He would force a smile and they would go back to their movie or dinner or crawl into bed. It was never Stephen's intention to make Peter feel unwanted, but it was clear that was exactly what he had done. If he didn't do something soon, Peter would leave.
What if he told him the truth and Peter left anyway?
Coward, he thought.
He was practically holding the man hostage in that case. Leading him on and leaving him hanging. He had to talk to him. Peter deserved to know even if it went poorly.
He waited until things were quiet. They had just finished brunch, sitting at the kitchen island. It was a calm day, no upcoming plans. Plenty of time to talk.
"Peter-" he started.
"Do you not want me?" Peter cut him off. He turned in his seat to face him. He looked so angry, so hurt. Stephen couldn't meet his eye.
"It's not that," his throat grew thick. He felt Peter's posture change. A little less hurt and a little more concerned. Stephen wasn't a man who's voice broke or who found it difficult to speak. He was blunt and honest and Peter's intuition was incredible enough to realize all of this with a single sentence.
"Something's wrong isn't it?" He put his hand on Stephen's arm. "You can talk to me."
"I uh..." He felt like he wanted to cry. He wasn't a man that cried often either. Why did he feel so vulnerable?
"Is it me? I mean are you... are you straight?"
Stephen laughed, startled. Poor Peter didn't look any more assured, but it certainly made Stephen feel a little better. "No, definitely not. Well not exactly no- well it's... it's complicated," he babbled.
"Please, Stephen. Don't make me keep guessing."
He took a breath. Then he looked at Peter. His Peter who loved him terribly much. Peter who had fought and nearly died for him plenty of times. "I'm asexual," he said.
"Oh." Peter looked at him, words sinking in. "So it's not me then?"
"No, Peter. Not at all."
"And you want to be with me?"
"Very much. I can't imagine anyone else in my life."
"You just don't want to have sex?"
"It's sort of complicated." Stephen rubbed a hand along his jaw. "I'm not terribly interested in sex and I get a bit distracted by all of the things I would rather be doing."
Peter blinked at him, listening and not fully comprehending.
"The only thing that truly disgusts me is penetration. The only time I want to be inside someone is while performing a heart transplant."
Peter snorted. He tried to hold it in and failed, bursting into laughter so strong he doubled over.
"So," he wheezed. "When I'm trying to get you into bed, you're thinking about heart surgery?"
Stephen smiled. "Sometimes I think about object teleportation." He waited for Peter to settle before he continued more seriously. "I love you very much, Peter. I'm willing to give you whatever it is that you need."
Peter shook his head. "I don't ever want you to do anything you don't want to."
"Thank you, Peter."
He smiled. His hand reached for Stephen's. "I love you. I'm more than happy with what we have."
Stephen wasn't so sure as they continued on. Peter seemed happier than before as days passed, but Stephen still doubted himself. Then he caught Peter masturbating in their bed.
Peter hid himself under the covers, face turing tomato red. Stephen averted his gaze, though he stood frozen in the doorway. "I- I'm sorry, I'll just uh..."
"No, it's okay, I shouldn't have been doing that in the bed. I mean its your bed, too. Of course you would come in here to lay down," Peter rambled.
"No, Peter. You should be able to take care of yourself whenever you need to. I just didn't mean to interrupt," Stephen said. They both stood, staring at each other, each trying to figure the other out.
"Do you uh," Peter chewed his lip. "Do you want the bed?"
"I was going to do some reading, but I can sit out in the living room."
"No, I'll just go to the bathroom then."
"No, Peter really, stay."
"But-"
They both stopped. Stephen realized then that they were both trying to hard to accommodate each other when there was truly no need.
"What if we both stay? You can do whatever you're doing and I'll read my book and we'll both just, do our own thing?"
Peter settled back into the bed. "You sure you're not grossed out?"
"You don't gross me out, Peter."
"You're welcome to stay if you're comfortable then."
Stephen settled into his side of the bed. He turned on the lamp and picked up his book. Peter went back to his business. Stephen found that he quite liked the little sounds that he made. It was cute. He sort of whimpered and he breathed too heavy and he looked pretty with his eyes fluttering closed and his cheeks pink. He could see what would be appealing about watching a person like this. Stephen was no virgin, but it was easier to appreciate a person in the throes of pleasure when he didn't feel obligated to be directly involved. Which was nice because Peter made nice sounds when he climaxed.
Stephen smiled to himself. Then he leaned over and kissed Peter's forehead. Peter laughed.
"You really just watched me get off and you're still not interested?"
Stephen shrugged. "You're lovely to look at, but no." Peter smiled. "What?"
"This is kind of nice, actually. Except, I'm all gross now."
"Go and clean up and I'll be here to hold you when you're done."
"Sounds perfect."

I asked @coffeefordage for some nielan prompts and got several good ones. Here's a modern AU drunk (but not clingy, sorry) Lan Xichen meeting Nie Mingjue for the first time, with background wangxian. Is this a meet-cute? A meet-drunk? idk. Enjoy.
This is my first Untamed fic. Only time will tell if this is a good idea. (Also on AO3)
Nie Mingjue took a sip of his drink, wincing as his eardrums were assaulted by noise that some people (Huaisang) considered to be music. He didn’t want to be here, and he was pretty sure Huaisang didn’t really want him to be here either, despite all of his wide-eyed pleas for Mingjue to accompany him. How else could Mingjue explain his little brother’s disappearance as soon as they walked through the door of the club? If this was how Huaisang wanted to spend time with him, Mingjue could be doing it from home. His ears would certainly be happier for it.
He lifted his glass again, preparing to down the rest of his drink so he could leave.
“Hi,” a cheerful and somewhat breathless voice said from behind him.
Mingjue turned, a polite greeting-slash-brush off on his lips, only to have the breath knocked right out of him at the sight of the most beautiful man he had ever seen. He was smiling at Mingjue as if Mingjue was the source of all of the world’s joy. The stranger was tall and elegant, a delicate pink flush spreading along his perfect cheekbones. He was wearing a pale blue and white outfit that looked like it came out of one of Hauisang’s magazines. Not exactly a clubbing outfit, based on Huaisang’s strong - and often-shared - opinions about fashion. The man was stunning in it (and out of it, I bet, Mingjue’s brain whispered), so Huaisang would probably forgive the transgression.
“Oh,” the beautiful stranger said, “you’re even more handsome up close! Wait here, please.”
Before Mingjue could remember how to form words, the man disappeared back into the crowd. Mingjue looked down at his drink. He still had just about half of it left, so he probably wasn’t experiencing an alcohol-induced delusion. Mingjue was still puzzling over the encounter when the man returned.
“Hi,” he said again, his smile just as bright. He was looking expectantly at Mingjue.
Mingjue blinked. “Hi,” he managed to say. His throat felt incredibly dry. He took a large gulp of his drink. The burn of the alcohol did nothing to help his composure.
"What's your name? It wouldn't be polite for me to call you Handsome Stranger." The man's smile was so blinding, it took Mingjue a minute to understand what he'd just said.
He couldn’t let this opportunity pass. He gave the man a once-over to buy himself a little more recovery time - a mistake that only made it harder to think - then said gruffly, “I’m Nie Mingue.”
“My name is Lan Xichen, but you can call me yours.”
Mingjue downed the rest of his drink. What the fuck? The most beautiful man in the world was using a pick-up line? On him? How was he supposed to respond to that? Say something, he told himself, even if it’s stupid. “I’ll be sure to remember that.”
Impossibly, Lan Xichen’s smile got bigger. He looked over Mingjue’s shoulder and raised his hand in a thumbs-up gesture. Mingjue followed his gaze and found a pair of men watching them from a nearby table. One of them was beaming at them, returning Lan Xichen’s thumbs-up enthusiastically. The other man looked almost exactly like Lan Xichen, minus the bright smile. Was he glaring at Mingjue, or was that just his face?
“My brother and his boyfriend,” Lan Xichen said, drawing Mingjue’s attention back to him. “A-Xian has so many pick-up lines, so he gave me one for you!”
He was barely keeping up with what was happening, but he tried for an intelligent response. “That was nice of him.”
“Yes,” Lan Xichen nodded happily. “He was sad he doesn't get to use them anymore. He said I should get to have some fun with them, at least.”
A quick glance back at the other men showed one of them - the one he assumed was Lan Xichen’s brother - pulling the other up out of his seat. They wrapped their arms around each other and started swaying to music only they could hear. They certainly weren’t dancing to the music that was actually playing. Huaisang was standing nearby. He quickly fled when he noticed Mingjue looking at him. Mingjue’s eyes narrowed. What was Huaisang up to?
“Oh, Huaisang left again,” Lan Xichen said, sounding disappointed. “I have to thank him. He asked me to get him another drink, and that meant I could get a better look at you.” His eyes widened. “I forgot Huaisang’s drink!”
“I don’t think Huaisang will mind. I’m sure he’s had more than enough,” Mingjue said quickly. He had an idea what Huaisang was up to now, but he couldn’t bring himself to care this time. “How do you know him?”
“He’s A-Xian’s friend.” Lan Xichen’s brow furrowed in thought. “Or possibly a friend of a friend? I just met him last week, in this very club. It’s nice here! A bit loud though. So many people.” Lan Xichen looked around, taking in the dancing bodies that surrounded them. “Do you know Huaisang? Is he your boyfriend?” Lan Xichen’s smile dimmed, fading into a politely fake copy. Mingjue didn’t like it.
“He’s my brother.” He thought Lan Xichen might be a little drunk.
“That’s wonderful!” His true smile returning, Lan Xichen sat down on the stool next to him and leaned toward him. “Do you have a boyfriend? A girlfriend?”
“Neither.” Although if Lan Xichen was still interesting - and interested - when he was sober, Mingjue was willing to change that.
Lan Xichen pulled his phone out of his pocket. “We should exchange numbers!” He poked and swiped at the screen a few times before finally exclaiming, “Got it! Here.” He thrust the phone at Mingjue.
This probably wasn’t how things like this were supposed to go - who handed their phone to a complete stranger? - but Mingjue was done questioning anything Lan Xichen said or did tonight. He sent a text to himself and then saved his number in Lan Xichen’s contact list as ‘Nie Mingjue - Single’.
As soon as Lan Xichen took his phone back, he took a picture of himself with the same bright smile that had short-circuited Mingjue’s brain earlier. “So you don’t forget who I am,” Lan Xichen said as he tapped away on his phone. Mingjue’s own phone buzzed with a notification.
“No danger of that,” he said, but he was quick to take out his phone and save Lan Xichen’s number in his contacts.
“Now you send one to me!”
Mingjue did not like having his picture taken and he really did not like taking selfies, but he didn’t hesitate to do as Lan Xichen asked. He tried to remember everything Huaisang always insisted on explaining about taking selfies, getting a good angle and adequate lighting. He even managed a natural-looking smile.
Lan Xichen gasped softly at him, then again after he received the picture of Mingjue. “So handsome! I love your dimples!” He gazed at the picture a little longer, then tucked his phone away and hopped off the barstool. “We should dance!”
Before Mingjue could decide if his dislike of club dancing was strong enough to withstand Lan Xichen’s radiance - he was beginning to suspect he could deny this man nothing - they were interrupted.
“Xichen-ge.” It was the brother’s boyfriend, the one with the unused pick-up lines. “Lan Zhan needs to go home."
“Time to sleep.” The brother - Lan Zhan, apparently - did look sleepy, his eyes almost half-closed. He tugged at his boyfriend’s arm and tried to pull him away, swaying a bit as he did.
“Didi!” Lan Xichen swept his brother up into an enthusiastic hug.
Lan Zhan submitted to the embrace, laying his head on Lan Xichen’s shoulder and closing his eyes. “Wei Ying too,” he said.
“A-Xian!” Lan Xichen pulled his brother’s boyfriend into the hug. The boyfriend went along with it, shrugging when he caught Mingjue’s eye. He wrapped his arms around both brothers.
“Time for all good Lans to go home and go to bed,” the boyfriend - Wei Ying? A-Xian? - said.
“Do we have to go?” Was Lan Xichen… pouting?
“What about your uncle? He’ll blame me for corrupting your morals!” Wei Ying pouted right back at Lan Xichen. Nie Mingjue had to look away before he started laughing at their antics.
“No.” Lan Zhan jerked upright from his doze on Lan Xichen’s shoulder and grabbed Wei Ying’s hand. “I will protect you.”
“Very well,” Lan Xichen said, a hint of a pout still on his face. “We’ll go now. We won’t give shufu any more reason to be mad at you.” He turned the two young men around and began herding them away. Mingjue tried not to let Lan Xichen’s abrupt departure bother him. Not even a goodbye?
“The door is this way, Xichen-ge,” Wei Ying said, steering the unsteady trio in the right direction.
As they drifted past him once more, Lan Xichen noticed him and pulled them all to a halt. “Nie Mingjue!” he cried, as if seeing him again after a long period of time. That damn smile was back. “I’m sorry, I have to go. Maybe we can dance next time?” Mingjue nodded dumbly. “I’ll text you! Or you can text me! Okay?”
Mingjue nodded again. The whole evening had taken on a surreal feel and he was starting to doubt the whole thing had happened, even as it was still happening.
“I’ll remind him,” Wei Ying said, giving them a wide smile. Lan Zhan glared and stalked away, pulling Wei Ying along with him. “Bye!” Wei Ying called over his shoulder.
“Goodbye, Nie Mingjue! It was nice to meet you!” Lan Xichen reached out and touched his hand briefly, then hurried away after his two companions.
Mingjue flexed his hand. The spot where Lan Xichen had touched him tingled like they were in some sappy romance. Hauisang could never learn of this.
As if summoned by the thought, Huaisang appeared at his side.
“Wei Wuxian was right, those Lans cannot hold their liquor. I think they had less than half a glass of beer between the two of them.” Hauisang tapped his chin with his fan.
“Wei Wuxian?”
“My new bestie. He was just here - the one wearing black.” Huaisang smiled brightly. “He’s fun.”
Wei Ying - Wei Wuxian, that explained why Lan Xichen called him A-Xian - had been wearing black, while Lan Zhan wore clothing similar to his brother. “I see. We weren’t properly introduced.”
“Wei Wuxian isn’t a proper introduction sort of person, he won’t care. Now Lan Xichen.” Huaisang went back to tapping his chin. “Lan Xichen is definitely a proper introduction sort of person, wouldn’t you say?”
“Yes.” His brother was definitely up to something. “He did properly introduce himself, which is why I even know who you are talking about right now.”
“He really is a delicious looking man, isn’t he? And he’s so nice. Definitely boyfriend material.”
Mingjue didn’t answer. Was Huaisang interested in Lan Xichen? Lan Xichen had just been hitting on Mingjue. He should tell Huaisang, let him down gently before he got invested, but that still very firmly put Lan Xichen out of Mingjue’s reach. Bro code or whatever, there was no way Mingjue would hurt Huaisang like that. Maybe in a few years, after Huaisang had moved on? Who was he kidding, there was no way someone like Lan Xichen would stay single that long.
Huaisang smacked him on the arm with his fan. “Silly da-ge, for you, not me! He’s not my type.”
Since Huaisang said that about every person ever, Mingjue wasn’t sure what his brother’s type was. Did he even have a type? Would he tell Mingjue if he did? He wished Huaisang didn’t feel like he had to protect Mingjue from whatever it was he thought he was protecting him from. Who was the big brother around here?
...wait.
“For me?”
“Why do you think I sent him over here?”
Mingjue did not know how to feel about that. Grateful for the roundabout introduction? Irritated at the meddling? Overwhelming love for his sneaky little brother? “I can manage my own affairs,” he finally grumbled.
“Of course you can,” Huaisang said with a soothing pat on his shoulder. “Buy me a drink, da-ge. Lan Xichen never brought the one I asked for.”
“You’ve had enough.”
“But da-geeeee-”
Mingjue ignored his brother’s whining - he had a lot of practice at it. Even Huaisang draping himself over his back and complaining directly in his ear could not change his mind. If Huaisang really wanted a drink, he could get his own.
His phone chimed a text notification at him. Lan Xichen was already texting him.
Our Lyft driver has such a nice car!!!
The text was accompanied by a slightly out of focus picture of a smiling Lan Xichen sitting in the back seat of a vehicle, with the top of his brother's head just visible on his shoulder. Very little of the car was showing.
Mingjue didn't bother to respond, but he couldn't help the fond smile that crossed his face. If this was Lan Xichen drunk, he couldn't wait to see what he was like sober. He was about to put his phone away when Huaisang grabbed it out of his hand.
"What's this?" Huaisang opened up the text app and stared at his most recent text. "You set his contact name as 'Yours'? Da-ge!"
Mingjue took his phone back and put it in his pocket. "What? He said I could."

Something was off with Y/N. Harry had known this for the past few days. It wasn’t that she’d been acting completely different, just so much so that being the caring and attentive person that he is, Harry had picked up on it.
At first, it was turning down second helpings at dinner. He didn’t think much of it aside from giving her the side-eye, because it was her favorite meal that Harry only cooked for her on special occasions. Next, it was her offering to pleasure him in the morning with her mouth instead of letting him take care of them both. Again, it was odd for her to turn down early morning sex, but he’d assumed she was just tired. Then came the nights when Y/N refused to sleep naked. Harry and Y/N always slept without clothes on, Harry claiming that it was just one more layer keeping them apart, which he hated. Again, he thought it was weird, but the weather had been particularly nipply lately so he’d chalked it up to her simply getting chilly throughout the night and needing the extra warmth.
The last and final straw, the whistle-blower that tied all of her off-kilter behaviors together, came to Harry when Y/N was in the shower. She was rinsing off after dinner, which she had only picked at anxiously with her fork without actually eating much of, and Harry was cleaning up the kitchen and living room to prepare for the movie night they had planned. When Harry went to move Y/N’s open laptop from the coffee table, he accidentally woke up the screen, and what he saw puzzled him to no end. It was an article pulled up on her browser, one from a tabloid company titled, “Reasons Why Y/N is Harry Styles’ Best Girlfriend.” The article was filled with photos of not only him and Y/N but of him and his past girlfriends as well. The point was to prove how much happier Harry looked with Y/N as opposed to his exes, but Harry was peeved regardless. Sure, some of these women had done him wrong in the past and left him feeling absolutely gutted, but he hated seeing them being put up against each other in this fashion.
Only adding to his frustration, the next tab over from the article was twitter account that Y/N and Harry had made one drunken night in order to spy on his fans and have a good laugh at how funny some of his followers were. They logged on and scrolled through the tweets together occasionally, but the tweets pulled up on the screen were all about Y/N’s body rather than jokes about how badly they wanted Harry to run them over with his car or memes made out of the horrid candids people had taken of him on stage. They claimed that Y/N was better than Camille because she “actually has an ass,” and that Taylor could never pull off a dress like the one Y/N wore on New Year's Eve because she didn’t have the right curves like Y/N did. Again, not necessarily negative comments, but this coupled with the other article Y/N had been looking at was enough for Harry to comprehend what was happening here.
It didn’t take much for Harry to put it all together, and it broke his heart when he did. She was comparing herself to the other girls Harry had been with. He wasn’t stupid. He knew what people said about Y/N and he knew very well that she looked much different than the other girls he typically went for. People certainly picked up on Harry’s “type,” seeing as he was always a hot topic for the press. Therefore when Y/N came along, everyone had tons to say on the matter. He avoided the comments as much as he could, but it was clear that Y/N was unable to say the same.
In the midst of planning how Harry would approach her on the subject, Y/N emerged from the top of the stairs and made her way over to the couch, dressed in an oversized shirt of Harry’s and a pair of her favorite underwear. Harry quickly closed her laptop and moved it into the kitchen as if he hadn’t just been snooping through her browser history.
“Alright,” she huffed as she plopped down onto the plush cushions of the sofa, wet hair sticking to the nape of her neck, “What’re we watching tonight?”
“Dunno,” Harry pondered, “Should we just search romantic comedies on Netflix and see what we find?”
“You know me too well, bubby,” she sighed contently.
A smile tugged at the corners of Harry’s mouth at the nickname she’d used. She appeared to be in a good mood, so he decided not to push his luck and try talking to her another day.
“Ye’ want some popcorn? Bought a new box at the store yesterday.”
“Uhh, no. I think I’m good. Still pretty full from dinner.”
You hardly touched your dinner, Harry thought to himself. He nodded (extremely hesitantly) at his girlfriend before situating his own self on the sofa next to her.
They settled on some independent film they knew they’d both hate, but that was the fun of it. Cracking jokes about how bad the acting was or about how inconsistent the main character’s accent was was almost more fun to Harry than watching a film that was actually good, which was why they ended up watching shitty, low budget ones on their designated, weekly movie nights.
Nearly halfway through the film, Harry absentmindedly slid his arm that was draped around her waist down to reach for Y/N’s thigh to place over his lap. He loved cuddling her this way, which their bodies morphed together and their legs intertwined under the coziest blanket in his house. Y/N loved it too, so Harry was shocked, but up until recently, not surprised, when she quickly pulled her leg away from Harry’s grip and off of his lap.
“Wha’s wrong? Ye’ don’t want to cuddle wi’ me?”
“What do you mean? I am cuddling with you?”
Harry huffed dramatically and rolled his eyes at his girlfriend’s feigned ignorance.
“Ye’ know exactly what I mean, baby. And it’s not just that. You’ve been acting weird lately. I know ye’ think I haven’t noticed, but I have. Ye’ don’t eat as much at dinner anymore, ye’ sleep with a t-shirt on. Ye’ don’t even want me touchin’ ye’ right now. Plus, I saw what was pulled up on your laptop while ye’ were in the shower. I’m not dumb, Y/N. Just wish you’d talk t’ me about it’s all.”
Y/N felt the embarrassment creep up her chest and spread to her neck. Her cheeks burned hot as she stared directly into his emerald green eyes that were begging, pleading for her to open up to him and tell him why she’d been so clearly obsessed with her appearance as of late. She’d had no idea that she’d even made a pattern out of her behaviors must less that Harry had picked up on them.
“I-...Harry....I don’t want to talk about this right now,” her voice barely came over a whisper.
“Well, I do. What is it? Ye’ think your too big f’ me or somethin’?”
Y/N sighed frustratingly in Harry’s direction.
“It’s not that. Not entirely anyway. It’s hard to explain. You’ll think it’s stupid.”
She tried not to look at Harry, but his burning gaze made it impossible to tear her eyes away.
“Baby, nothing ye’ say or feel is stupid. Talk t’ me.”
He placed his ringed hand on her kneecap. She was hesitant to not pull away from his touch, but she tried her best to relax against his grip.
“It’s just that...I don’t....look like the other girls you’ve been with,” Y/N chewed her bottom lip anxiously as soon as the words left her mouth.
Harry still didn’t see her point.
“So?” he questioned, “There’s a reason why I’m not with ‘em anymore.”
“I’m just...I see all of these comments about what people say about me...about us and it makes me feel weird.”
“Weird? Like wha’?”
“Weird like I don't really see why you’re even with me, H. I am the polar opposite of all of your exes.”
Harry had half a mind to be angry with Y/N for more or less accusing him of not loving her when that couldn’t have been further from the truth, but he was able to see things from her side and keep his urges to himself. He knew exactly what it was like to be under constant scrutiny from the press, but she didn’t. She didn’t ask for this, she didn’t deserve this, and she certainly shouldn’t be feeling the way she’s feeling right now.
“Baby,” Harry cooed her, “Wha’ever it is that ye’ read or wha’ever ye’ thinkin’, ‘ts not true. I swear on me mum that you’re the girl I want t’ spend forever with. Ye’ don’t have to change anything about ye’self to get me t’ love ye’ any more than I already do.”
“But-”
“But nothing,” Harry interrupted, “Promise me ye’ won’t read that rubbish anymore. And promise you’ll stop hidin’ ye’self from me, too.”
Y/N nodded slowly, feeling the tension built up in her shoulders slowly dissipating into thin air. Harry was her favorite person in the world, and hearing that from him meant everything. Of course, she’d still have her moments when she’d feel like she wasn’t good enough, but everyone had those.
“Good,” Harry leaned over to press a chaste kiss over her forehead, “Now give me a proper cuddle.”
He leaned over to grab her by the waist and hoisted her up completely on top of him.
“Harry, no!” Y/N sheepishly exclaimed through embarrassed giggles.
“Y/N, yes!” Harry taunted her as he made them both comfortable on the sofa once more.
He pulled the blanket up over their shoulders and wrapped his arms securely around her back so that he could pet her spine whilst they finished the movie. She nestled into Harry’s shoulder and breathed in his scent that lingered on his fitted, white t-shirt. Twenty minutes ago, she’d have felt like she was crushing Harry under her weight, but not now. She felt at peace knowing Harry loved her for who she was.
As movie nights typically go with Harry, he started to get quite handsy towards the end of the film. He was starting to shift about the sofa and his palms were navigating towards the supple skin of Y/N’s bum. At first, it was a comforting hand slipping in between the hemline of her panties and just resting there against her bare skin, but soon turned into Harry kneading teasing, firm motions on her ass. His lips had found their way to the sensitive patch of her neck, sucking and tugging the area lazily, but still intense enough to mark her up.
“Angel,” Harry beckoned when he was able to pull his lips away from her momentarily.
Y/N hummed in response, too intoxicated from the tingling sensation caused by Harry’s tongue mouthing at her throat.
“Sit up f’ me,” Harry demanded, his voice dripping with lust and desire.
She did as she was told, sitting up so she was still straddling Harry’s chest as she looked down at him. Harry kept a close grip on Y/N’s thighs as he slid further down the couch and his face was now inches away from her core.
“Harry, what’re you-”
“Shh,” Harry’s eyes were blown out and glassy as he switched from looking into her eyes and the damp patch that was slowly but surely forming at the front of her cotton panties.
“Just let me love on ye’ for a bit. Come closer t’ me.”
He tried tugging her thighs so that she’d sit down a bit more against him, but she tensed up.
“But I don’t want to-”
“Ye’ not gonna crush me or wha’ever it is that ye’ worried about.”
“I might,” she mumbled to herself.
Her self-depreciation caused Harry to nip the inside of her bare thigh with his teeth, which made her jerk in response.
“Hey!” she scolded.
Harry took advantage of her moment of disorientation and kissed her heat over the front of her panties so that he could taste the juices that had accumulated there. Her chuckles quickly died down into moans when she felt the beginnings of his stubble graze the part of her body where she’d always needed Harry the most.
“Ye’ gonna listen t’ me now, pet?” Harry asked as he replaced his lips with his thumb, where he began rubbing tantalizingly slow circles against her clothed clit.
“Mhmmm,” Y/N mewled.
“Though so,” Harry finished off with his infamous cheeky smirk.
She settled down properly onto Harry’s face, hovering just over his plump, shining lips until he was ready to taste her again. When he pulled her panties to the side and latched onto her dripping, wet core, she sank even further down against Harry’s tongue, eager to feel him in every possible nook and cranny that he could reach. He drank from her like he’d never wanted anything else in his all of his days.
Y/N had no doubt in her mind that at this moment, Harry was being honest when he said that she was the only person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

CQL Rewatch - Episode 10
Tumblr media
Confession time: I don’t like Xue Yang. I appreciate him for all his villain-y villain-ness, but I don’t like the character. I find him kind of annoying in this series, because they just have him so over-the-top nasty all the time. He’s like a caricature of a person. Granted, I haven’t watched the Yi City arc, because, as I think I said before, I read it and once was enough. So the other thing that kind of bothers me here is that we have two villains vying for screen time: Xue Yang and Wen Chao (Wen Chao obviously gets more)—and I guess it’s a bit much. Like, it’s not enough that Wen Chao is on their heels, trying to get the Yin Iron from them, so we need to add this scene where they watch someone else fight Xue Yang. That’s another thing that’s kind of goofy. Why put Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian, and Lan Wangji in this scene at all when they barely do anything? Wei Wuxian uses Binding/Bonding to stop Xue Yang from getting away, but that’s the only real contribution.
Tumblr media
See? This is what they do for the first ten minutes of the episode. This could have been told to them or shown in a flashback easily. Easily. There’s other things we see in flashbacks that are arguably more important than this capturing of Xue Yang and introduction to Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan. With a lot of things, I’m like, if it was good enough in the book, then it’s good enough in CQL. At a certain point, I have to wonder if they just felt like they needed a fight scene in every episode. Director/writers were like, we gave you that scene with the chicken, now let’s get back to the action scenes! This is my personal preference, but I don’t mind being told some things, versus being shown everything. Like, it’s okay to hide some things from the audience so that they payoff is better at the time its revealed. (I will be forever bitter about how the headband meaning was revealed right away—that was such a great moment in the book, and I feel like CQL robbed the audience of that).
Tumblr media
I feel like this is the only part in the whole series where they hint at anyone being gay, and it comes in the form of Xue Yang accusing Wei Ying of touching him inappropriately (basically, I’m not going back to check the subtitles). It would have been funny for Wei Ying to kind of play along with that, but censorship (rip)—I do like his line about how no one can best him in being cheeky, though.
Tumblr media
I’ve never been happier to see Nie Huaisang, because that means we’re finally moving on to something else. Woohoo! Let’s go to Qinghe!
Tumblr media
I like here how the distinction is made between people who are in clans and people who aren’t. I also like the set-up of how WangXian is similar to Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan: we cultivate together because we have similar goals and ethics, and that they are respected doing that.
Tumblr media
And it’s interesting how Jiang Cheng says how it’s an honor to meet those two, but when Wei Wuxian says that he and Lan Wangji went on a night hunt for the same reasons, Jiang Cheng scorns them. He implies such a thing is enough to not let him back into Lotus Cove. I guess he doesn’t extend that same courtesy to Wei Wuxian, which is not surprising. I really like Jiang Cheng as a character, but he struggles with having good relationships. His interpersonal skills aren’t great. I mean, just look at him at the end—irreconcilable damage has been done to his relationship with Wei Wuxian. Can they be civil to each other? Of course! Do I think they’re really ever going to be friends and brothers again? I sincerely doubt it. And this isn’t all Jiang Cheng’s fault or anything; I think it’s mutual, and both of them parted on good terms, but the understanding is that they may never cross paths again. Honestly, that’s what I like about Jiang Cheng—I like that he’s complicated and is stubborn and his pride is important to him; I like that he’s jealous and will hold a grudge forever—that’s what makes him interesting to me. And I love the theme that choices were made, and you can’t go back to how things were. I love that this series/book shows that blood isn’t thicker than water, that sometimes it isn’t enough just to be family—that there are things that can destroy those kinds of bonds, but that that isn’t the end. You can start over—and if anyone gets to start over, it’s certainly Wei Wuxian. Went off on a tangent there, sorry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like how much they act like friends here. It’s just so relaxed, so intimate. Just the two of them, because all the others have walked away, including Jiang Cheng. If I didn’t know the story, I’d be wondering why it seemed like Wei Wuxian is closer to Lan Wangji than Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng scoffs at him, while Lan Wangji embraces Wei Wuxian’s words, and he’s only known him six months or so. It’s quite telling. I’m glad I’m rewatching this, because there are so many moments I’ve forgotten about that are really nice (I’ve watched the special edition cut about twice, and a lot is cut out, as you know).
Tumblr media
Another moment I forgot about: Wei Wuxian standing up for Xue Yang. Not, of course, because he thinks he’s a good man, but because he doesn’t think they should execute a man when they don’t have all the facts. I like the contrast between his way of thinking and Nie Mingjue’s, who is quick to anger, stressed out, and ready to take everything out on Xue Yang. It’s understandable that he wants to just end Xue Yang, considering the threats from the Wen Clan, plus word on the street is that Xue Yang murdered an entire clan, albeit a small one. Nie Mingjue is worried about his own clan, not to mention the Gusu Lan Clan, who he specifically asks about when greeting Lan Wangji. He feels the impending threat from the Wen Clan and he’s not about to take it lying down.
And then you have Wei Wuxian defending a man who in his eyes is innocent until proven guilty. Like I said earlier, I think they all know Xue Yang murdered all those people, but I do like the fact that Wei Wuxian tries to push Nie Mingjue into making a more reasonable choice: waiting until they have all the facts. It’s a nice foreshadowing of what’s to come with Wei Wuxian himself, where most people aren’t willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Tumblr media
Look at that smile! aldslkf
Okay, so first Lan Wangji hears something on his roof, so he grabs Bichen and prepares for a fight. Then he hears Wei Wuxian mumbling drunkenly about how the tiles are rougher in Qinghe than in Gusu, and that little smile forms on his lips. It’s so quick—blink and you’ll miss it. His expression is so soft, so warm, so gentle. Think about this—six months ago, he would have leapt on that roof to go fight Wei Wuxian, and now his reaction is this honeyed smile, reserved at this point only for Wei Wuxian. I mean, have you seen him smile for anyone else? Okay, fine—he smiled at the rabbits too. So the great Lan Wangji only smiles for bunnies and Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
And I think he really regrets leaving like this. They’ve built up this relationship—this rapport—with one another, and Lan Wangji ends up leaving in the night, basically without a word. Wei Wuxian is too drunk to even know he’s there (if I’m not mistaken, Wei Wuxian calls for him, thinking that’s he’s still inside). Lan Wangji doesn’t know what’s ahead—everything is uncertain: the Wen Clan has ordered all major clans to send one inner disciple to be indoctrinated immediately, there is the issue of the Yin Iron (and Lan Wangji still has a piece of it), not to mention people like Xue Yang who might be roaming around causing trouble on the Wens’ behalf. Lan Wangji is certainly fearful for his home and his people, worried about the Yin Iron going to the wrong hands, likely worried about Wei Wuxian just in general, and regretting leaving him high and dry. This is such a sad moment, and maybe it’s just me feeling that way. It always leaves me with a lump in my throat. I also think it mirrors a later scene where Lan Wangji is on the roof and Wei Wuxian is leaving.
Also that fucking wangxian.mp3 playing in the background for this whole part—of course I’m going to get emotional!
Tumblr media
Perfect response: Wasn’t me!
I mean, couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy, though. The captain was such an asshole, and I don’t blame Jin Guangyao one bit for what he did. That man emotionally and verbally abused him I’m sure on a daily basis. Not saying that murder is the answer to your problems, but in this made-up fantasy world that is CQL/MDZS, that guy fucking deserved it.
I also like how even though Nie Mingjue is super pissed and upset by what Jin Guangyao did, he still catches him when he gets run through, and he’s absolutely torn up about banishing him. It’s pretty powerful when it cuts back to him in his idk throne room (whatever you’d call that, I know it’s not a throne room, whatever) and everything is smashed up. Like, this man is enraged. The last thing he wanted to do was banish Jin Guangyao, but he had to. He couldn’t keep a man like that around. Jin Guangyao, by murdering the captain, had lost Nie Mingjue’s trust. Not to mention, who let Xue Yang out? Was it Jin Guangyao? Nie Mingjue doesn’t know; in his mind, Jin Guangyao could have been responsible for that too.
Tumblr media
So, I actually really don’t like this. Wen Chao has already spilled the beans on the “evil Gusu Lan Clan” earlier, implying that they did, in fact, stand up to the Wens, and now he says outright that they sent forces to Gusu to burn the place to the ground. I hate that they tell us this! It’s so much better in the book when you don’t know what’s going on until Wei Wuxian finds out at the indoctrination! This is one of the most annoying things about Untamed—they spoil all the big secrets right away. In the book, the big secrets hit so much better when they’re finally revealed. It’s honestly a great feeling that the payoff is so good. Watching Untamed, I was just like, what?! Don’t tell them yet! Like the headband?! Argh!! Yes, we got that one good scene, but I would have traded that for what happens in the book (of course, the whole being tied up with the headband probably wouldn’t have made it into the tv series…). [NB: I laughed when I was reading over this again and saw that I’d already brought up the headband. Sore spot lol.]
But also, does Wei Wuxian not look worried enough here or is it just me? I feel like he should be more concerned. Even though he has the utmost confidence in Lan Wangji’s skill, he’s just one young man up against a huge force from the Wen Clan.

ST: The Next Generation S3 Watchthrough Episodes 14-17
A Matter of Perspective: So we have Riker being accused of murder and Picard and the others having to piece together the events to find the true story. We have a bit of a unique way of accomplishing this as they use the Holodeck to recreate the various accounts… which causes a problem. Not everyone’s accounts line up. They may feel like they’re telling the truth, but may be remembering things wrong, going off second-hand information, misunderstanding wich affects the testimony, and all that fun stuff. Now we know that while Riker can kill if he has to, he likely didn’t commit murder (or do anything like force himself on a woman like the one recreation protrayed), or if he did there would be a reason for it. It sucks to see Riker int his situaiton and Picard wanting to believe his First Officer but having to follow his duty as Captain and with the evidence mounting against Riker… yeah.. So it was fine. Nothing to really complasin about, but nothing to really praise eiher. I guess it shows how messy it can be to get to the truth with so many people believing different things which causes so many muddled up accounts. We never get the true story (though Riker’s is probably the closest to the truth), but we get enough to prove Riker innocent so yay~! Just a solid episode all in all. 3/5.
Yesterday’s Enterprise: YAR! OH MY GOD!!! So in this episode, we end up in an alternate timeline where I guess the Bad Ending of The Undiscovered Country occurred and Starfleet is at war with the Klingons. Only Guinan can tell that something’s out of place. Yar is alive, Troi and Worf are gone, Wesley’s an actual officer, and they have found the believed to be destroyed Enterprise-C. They even bring back the movie-era red uniforms for the Enterprise-C crew. Yar pretty much gets far, far more material to work with than she did in her one season which I guess is how they convinced Denise Crosby to come back for it since I think that’s why she quit in the first place. I still feel very conflicted about her death in Skin of Evil. The senselessness cetianly added to the cruel reality, but left me upset to see her character thrown away like that. Here she will die again no matter what, but this time she decides to let it be on her terms and do something that will at least matter. The whole episode is darker than usual due to the war, allowing them to get away with killing characters and the Enterprise-C’s lose-lose situation is just… it’s just depressing. All while Guinan is trying to convince Picard that this whole reality is wrong, and he’s understandably struggling with being told that what he knows is his reality and life is fake. Guinan watching Yar, knowing that her being alive is wrong, also added ott he unease and lets Yar piece together that she didn’t survive in the true timeline. Seriosuly, Whoppi Goldberg is always awesome, but she was amazing in this episode. The only real downside is because this is an alternate timeline that essentially gets wiped out of existence, the impact is minimal and while Yar got a much better sendoff … it doens’t change that the real Yar is dead and her death was empty (though Guinan asking Geordi about Yar to know more about her was an excellent end note). It holds me back from giving this a perfect score, but this was still an excellent episode and at least shows that even in death, even in another reality, Yar was very much a part of the Enterprise and that she mattered. Clearly the writers realized that they made a mistake and did what they could to make some form of ammends, and I can respect that. 4.5/5.
The Offspring: Data’s a daddy! I thought this sounded kind of silly when I read the description… but Dear Lord this broke my heart. I just wanted to hug Lal through this entire episode. She was just created and experiencing life and already has her own feelings and thoughts, like not liking the other children treating her as different. Data is trying his best and overall I think that he was as good of a parent as he could be. He genuinely wanted to raise Lal, he educated her and even enrolled her in school, went to Crusher for parenting advice, and I think that he truly loved her as any good parent would for their child. It makes the ending just utterly heartbreaking and how the admiral who comes to check things out being just feels so God awful. Hell the fact that they consider taking what is essentially a young child away from her parent without taking her feelings into account just because she’s an android already exceeding Data’s funcitons essentially because of prejudice and claiming to know better than the parent/father who is clealry not abusive or anything like that… yeah, the allegory hits hard. Data having to say goodbye to Lal as she died… yeah that hit me hard. I cried. That was just… God I don’t even know how to describe it, but it hurt. The episode has it’s issues. Like while I do like that Lal was allowed to choose her own gender, it’s a painful reminder that no one could even consider non-binary an option. I also felt like Picard was off in the first half since while he does ultimately defend Data against the admiral and I understand his concerns about Data not telling anyone and how Starfleet will react, him acting like Data even able to fathom wanting a child or if Lal even counts as a child just feels… horribly dickish. At least Troi was on Data’s side, and liek I said Picard did ultimateley defend Data and his and Lal’s rights so that’s good. And while I get that Data views himself as unable to feel… he clearly did love Lal and I need to keep reminding myself that we didn’t have the understanding of neurodivergence or the like back then, but I legit cannot tell what the show is triyng to say concerning Data’s ability to feel. Can he? Or can he not? They only allow one or the other. Still, the episode was sweet in a lot of ways and just brutal/sad in others and just a painful reminder of the prejudice against Data/androids that The Measure of a Man illustrated. Hopefully, happier things for Data are on the horizon. 4/5.
Sins of the Father: So after that heartbreaker, lets do more father-related stuff but time with the Klingons! This time we have a Klingon, Kurn, working on the Enterprise as an acting FIrst Officer and not only does it turn out that he’s Worf’s unknown brother… but that Worf’s father was accused of treason and thus he and his family are facing dishonor, hence why Kurn is there. Until that revelation it looked like we were getting the reverse of A Matter of Honor, but when that twist comes in? Ho boy… As the oldest son, Worf has to face the challenge that will either clear his family or end in his execution and of course Worf feels bound to do so. This certainly was something. We get to see the Klingon homeworld, we plunge straight into Klingon politics, and damn is it intense from the moment we warp to the planet to the very end. While we sort out that Worf's father wasn’t a traitor… unfortunately the one whose family was is in a high position of power who tries everything possible to keep the truth from coming out. It’s a whole conspiracy and Worf is forced to accept the dishonor just to prevent the planet from plunging into Civil War. It’s clear that no one, not even the other Klingons like this and knows that it’s wrong… but they turn their backs on him anyways. Worf even forces Kurn to do so so that he won’t have to suffer the same fate when the truth about his identity becomes known. It reflects on Worf’s character, his honor and devotion to his family despite them being either dead or only just finding out that he had a brother at all. Not to mention to the Klingon Empire since he’s also allowing it to save them from war. But it’s also just so cruel that he and his family got scapegoated all because of one asshole to cover his own family’s dishonor, especially since we’d watched Worf trying so hard to uphold the Klingon ideals and beliefs despite having grown up among humans. Now he’s been shamed by his people and viewed as a non-entity, which may be even worst than mere dishonor. IDK if this plot will continue in TNG or when he joins DS9, but I hope it does because Worf didn’t at all deserve this. It makes me respect his character so much more though and Picard was freakin’ badass as well. At least in the meantime, he has the Enterprise crew standing by him. 4/5.
