ive seen you post about doctor robotnik's ring racers occasionally on twitter and would like to hear your overall thoughts on the game

I'm enjoying it a lot! It plays well, has a ridiculous number of unlockable characters and tracks, and is generally just really polished. This would be impressive even for a paid indie kart racer that cost like $20-$30, but for a freeware fangame that's somehow built off of Doom? It's nuts. So much love and care went into this. I've been having a lot of fun playing through all the Grand Prix cups and clearing out the challenge board, which I've only completed 47% of it even with over 15 hours of playtime logged.

It's absolutely one of the most hardcore kart racers I've ever played, though, and that's gonna turn some people off. While playing solo even easy mode can be difficult, especially thanks to the rival system that gives one CPU buffs over the others. Anything below 150cc is a complete joke for me in Mario Kart, but even playing on the "normal" difficulty in Ring Racers (now renamed "intense" in the 2.2 patch) kicks my ass, and if you place poorly in a Grand Prix race it gives you a game over and makes you redo the race. I can't even imagine touching the higher difficulties at my current skill level.

This is compounded by how technical the game is and how many options are at your disposal. Spin dashing, tricks, fast drops, collecting and spending rings, an item roulette that can be manually stopped, a high risk high reward chargeable melee attack when you have negative rings, the ability to harass and be harassed by other racers while positioning yourself before the start of the race, gates that can only be passed through when you have a high level of boost, lots of items with different quirks that reward skilled play. And of course, perhaps most daunting of all to new players, there's the game's unique slope physics designed to mimic how they work in the 2D Sonic games, which will often require you to either spend rings for a small boost or stop and charge up a spin dash to get up a steep hill.

All of these add a lot of complexity to the game that can be pretty daunting early on, which is why it has an infamously long story-driven tutorial to introduce all of these mechanics. I'm not sure said tutorial actually does the best job introducing how those mechanics will actually be put to use in races, but I can't blame them for thinking the game needed it. (I do have to admit I am annoyed by the game's insistence upon framing everything via Sega Saturn inputs, though. I had to open the settings screen to figure out what buttons the tutorial actually wanted me to press.)

Some of these things have already been addressed in the first couple patches, of course. You can now exit the tutorial way earlier, some unlock requirements have been relaxed, there's an option to let the game automatically use your rings for you, easy mode has been made easier, a handful of problematic courses have been tweaked, etc. And I'm sure they'll continue to refine the game based on player feedback. But it's probably always going to be a fairly hardcore game. It's hard and has a high skill ceiling by design. Nintendo's never gonna make a super technical new Mario Kart for sickos - not on purpose, at least. They need it to be a pick-up-and-play party game that sells 70 million copies. But a freeware fangame not beholden to shareholders can experiment more and try to cater to that more hardcore crowd. Say what you will about Ring Racers, but it absolutely has a specific creative vision of its own beyond "Sonic Mario Kart," and I respect that even if the game sometimes frustrates me

Gave him a shirt, made the collar sharp as that was also an iconic 70’s look. It’s been said he died around the 70’s.

Went with green, @the-burd-lord helped me out here, suggesting it fits best with his personality(also can mean renewal and rebirth), plus it’s often seen as a color of fortune and luck along with red! I also added gold as it also shows fortune and can symbolize a gold heart 💛 I can totally see him and Mimzy argue over who pulls it better.

I'll admit. Garfield Def inspired me in how to design Husks body build. I really digged @skwtches style on Husk especially with the body change!

I know the picture doesn’t show it but he def does still have a tail but it’s shorter and fluffier looking(one of Angels many favorite things about Husk)

For the suit order on his wings and vest buttons, normally the order power wise is the Spade, heart, diamonds then clubs but instead the hearts at the bottom, to show his hearts the most vulnerable, how he’s very guarded and protective about getting hurt from caring too much💔. Instead the diamond replaces the heart as he’s able to gain profit/fortune well(just has trouble keeping it due to his gambling and buying booze a lot) and then the clubs as his lucks always going back and forth♦️♣️

For his wings I missed the old suit symbols the pilot wings had so I brought them back and made them bigger. And did some research and the dots on Husks new wings are Roulette board circles which I think is cool so I kept those but reworked it to look part of a roulette wheel too.

Also made takes on other Hazbin characters, Charlie, Vaggie, Angel Dust, Alastor Niffty and Baxter🍎🦋🕷️🦌🐛🐟

can you review acara? i JUST learned they’re supposed to be aquatic, i don’t see it at all

Maybe I'm biased because I have one, but I've always really enjoyed Acaras. They're a completely abstract creature, to the point where it's hard to pin down what they even resemble the most.

The head is the most distinctive feature, as they sport two doubled-up ears and a pair of fur-covered horns (which are actually flexible). They also have no tails, which is something you don't see a lot when it comes to fantasy quadrupeds. Both their furless paws and ears match in color, making them pop and balancing the palette. (Pink's not my favorite accent color, but it at least makes sense here given that it's their skin.) Finally, their underbellies further break up the design, making for a nice-looking Neopet all around.

And as for the aquatic thing: those split ears used to a pair of fins, back when the Acara was still called the Tigren:

Even though you can't tell they're aquatic just by looking at them nowdays, I'd argue that they do still give off a diving mammal vibe. I think it's the furless paws combined with the the short fur—they're like the otters of the Neopet world (except not literally, because the Lutari is the otter of the Neopet world, but you get the idea). I also seem to recall that they use their horns to help them steer when diving, furthering their swimming capabilities.

And as for customization, the Acara came out on top, basically remaining unaltered except for a raised paw and a slightly less joyful expression. A lot of things got cleaned up, such as the horn structure and the feet being less weirdly shiny. The only downside is that I swear the heads got bigger, but otherwise I feel like the converted version is slightly better.

Favorite Colours:

Grey: I already spotlighted this one in my grey color review so I won't get into too much detail here, but the grey Acara is super pretty. The converted version is pretty standard (though the tears and eyebags at least make it extra sad), but the UC/styled version is perfect. I love the horns being flopped forward and how it's looking up while leaning forward, giving it a particularly pitiful look. The shading is also pretty nice as well.

Chocolate: I think what makes this one work is the amount of detail. I love the little white chocolate drizzle that accents the head, collar, back, and paws, with whipped cream on top and extra chocolate fudge on the back. What really makes it though are the waffle paws/ears and the horns, which are white chocolate with milk chocolate striping. The mostly brown palette is also lovely and high-contrast.

Plushie: You know what, I just think I like Acaras with stripes on their horns. I've always liked plushie Acaras for reasons similar to chocolate; the ears/paws have a nice pattern to them, and the striped patterns really pop due the use of aquamarine and yellow against the duller blue base. Both versions are fine; the converted version looks a bit less creepy, but it looses major points for having normal eyes instead of button eyes (especially because the button eyes accented the orange patch on the foreleg) and also loosing the stitching on its chest. Still, it's a nice-looking color all around.

BONUS: I have to give the pastel Acara a shout-out because it's the color of my Acara. :) They're not particularly fancy compared to the above colors, but the light green and yellow palette combined with the subtle pinkish shading really makes this one nice to look at.

A writing blurb/wip/however you'd like to call it. TBH I'm more self conscious about actually WRITING OUT STORIES, so I wouldn't mind constructive feedback.

‘Charlie had a rough day’ was a blatant understatement of how horribly shit hit the fan that day. But you wouldn't know it just by looking at her demeanor.

When a random gang tried to rob the hotel that morning, she handled it. When the entire septic system on the 7th floor exploded, she handled it. When Vaggie and Angel got in a screaming match over his ever growing drug stashes, she handled it.

It seemed that no matter how terrible, scary, or unexpected her challenges got, she kept smiling, kept going like she wasn't bearing the weight of so much on her shoulders already.

Of course, everyone cracks eventually. In some way or another. Charlie would like to think that she was using age regression to help mitigate those cracks. When she was feeling little, it was okay if she threw a tantrum occasionally or get snippy with Dad or Vaggie. If she let out a little bit of the pressure at a time, in a safe space surrounded by safe people, she'd be okay enough to keep smiling the next day. Of course, things don't always balance out like that in the end, especially with how much energy Charlie spent repressing negative feelings.

Upon coming home to their suite on the hotel's highest floor, Charlie collapsed on the floor in front of the TV. Vaggie watched her calmly.

“You feeling okay, hun?”

Charlie shrugged and brought her fingers up towards her mouth. Vaggie caught that glassy look in her eyes taking over.

“Feeling little?”

After a pause, Charlie nodded her head. Vaggie bent down to kiss her cheek before stepping around her.

“Okay, Princessa. Let me grab your things. Can I call your dad, or do you want it to be just us tonight?”

“...Call Daddy.”

“Call Daddy. I can definitely do that.” Vaggie had Lucifer on speed dial for these nights. He loved getting to visit Charlie when she was regressed, and they've healed their relationship a lot the past few months together. He was also great to tag-team with whenever Vaggie need a break.

After a quick chat on the phone, Vaggie refocused on Charlie. She grabbed one of her favorite outfits to wear in littlespace: a red, long-sleeve dress with gold foil hearts all over it; soft, stretched out black leggings; fuzzy pink socks; and the only part of it that Charlie hated, a simple pink pull-up without any designs or characters on it. Charlie genuinely struggled controlling her bladder when she regressed. Vaggie thought that it may have something to do with her brain not communicating with her “big girl” body properly. But while Charlie definitely needed them, she hated having to use pull-ups with every fiber of her being.

Vaggie approached her quietly, sitting down beside her curled-up form on the plush red carpet.

“Can I get you dressed, Princessa?”

“Mm…kay…” Charlie hummed. Vaggie smiled softly and started unbuttoning her clothes. Pants, blouse, bra, then underwear. Charlie wasn't all that helpful in the process, but thankfully she let Vaggie roll her around a bit in order to wrestle all her clothes off. Vaggie slipped the red dress over her head and pulled her arms through. She already looked so cute in her favorite cozy dress.

Vaggie stretched the pull-up out and subtly slipped it into the leggings. With one swift motion she got them both over Charlie's bottom, and thankfully avoided any fussing or tantrums over the oh-so-offensive pull-up. Lastly, she slipped Charlie's socks on and undid her ponytail.

There, cute as a button.

Charlie sat up with a dazed look on her face.

“Oh, my little one is so tired this evening. It's been a rough day, huh?” Charlie quietly placed her fingers and thumb in her mouth. 

“Oh, nuh uh uh mi amor. I got your binki. Let's try that with a binki.” Vaggie slipped a bright pink pacifier into Charlie's mouth, but no sooner had she done that, Charlie ripped it out and threw it at the wall behind Vaggie's head.

“No!” Charlie snapped. Vaggie blinked.“...Okay. That's fine. But listen to me-  Charlie, listen- be sweet tonight. Daddy's coming over and you know you wanna be kind to him, right?” Charlie scowled at the floor. Vaggie sighed. Oh lord, here we go again. Rough days lead to rough nights I guess, she thought begrudgingly.

☆ Speaking of being loyal, Kyle is exactly that. When he’s interested in someone he puts his all into it, hoping they’ll be the one. He’s had many heartbreaks because he puts his heart on his sleeve and he gets taken advantage of. He just wants someone to love and to love him! Someone give this man a break huh? (I volunteer as tribute)

☆ Man is all about those sweet pet names! Think: Love, sweetheart, darling, babe(s). Once he’s in love, oh boy is he in LOVE. You’ll get all these and more, trust and believe.

☆ Loves arcade dates. In my mind, Kyle is a huge fan of classic arcade cabinets. Furthermore, Mortal Kombat. He totally wants to indoctrinate you into it if you aren’t already, will play hours and hours smashing those buttons and messing around with you just to see your smile. Will also pay for dinner no matter if he wins or loses, true gentleman. He will tease you if you lose though!

☆ If you aren’t military he would want you to meet Price. That man is Kyle’s whole inspiration, his mentor. That’s very special to him and he’d love to set up a cute little brunch where you can meet the man himself. Tell stories about how many times Kyle’s fallen out of air crafts, stuff like that! You mean a lot to him, only fair that you get to meet the old man that makes him the man he is today!

☆ He doesn’t expect it or demand it, but if you ever help him in his life outside of work he appreciates it beyond everything else. Making breakfast or helping him get through the mountain of dirty laundry he always brings back, helping him out like that makes his whole week. He’ll make sure to do the same for you, returning the favor is his favorite game after all (wink wonk). If you make breakfast, he’ll make dinner. If you do his laundry, he’ll wash every dish in his vicinity. Mans will never leave you with more to be desired, trust.

☆ Will always check in on how you’re doing. Never wants you to feel as if you aren’t being listened to or heard. Making sure you’re eating and sleeping comes with this too! He wants his partner to be comfortable and happy. If you need anything he’ll always be there to get it to you.

☆ If you’re not military and are more civilian aligned, face timing him while he’s deployed is a must for him. He needs to check in on you, make sure you know he’s okay and alive, and to see your wonderful face that he loves so much.  Plus, you get to see that handsome smile of his! Hearing you while he’s out in the middle of nowhere unable to sleep, it keeps him going. Ever since you came into his life things have changed in a good way, he’s always doing good for everyone else and he loves it, but now he can do good for those he loves too.

☆ Top tier cuddler, truly. Mans loves to hold and to be held, whatever you want he can be and he’ll soak up every second of it. He’s good at detecting what you want in the moment, accommodating if you need to be held after a rough day or if you sense he needs to just get lost in your arms for a while. Plenty of kisses are going to happen during any designated cuddle time too, he’s especially fond of kissing your hands and your temple.

AC: I’m here again, with another OutSet themed one shot. I need home girl to ship worldwide already. 

“Baby, I don’t know, I mean it’s going to be a live video” you speak while closing your book and placing it on the nightstand, “I just don’t like having people see me, especially people I don’t know, and you have a lot of fans” you add turning to face Scarlett in bed. “I know it’s a bit of a worry and I won’t push it, but it’ll be a lot of fun and honey, you’re beautiful, so beautiful. You shouldn’t worry about what others think” she leans over and kisses your lips softly. 

A week ago, Scarlett asked if you wanted to come to the office and be a model for the skin care products. She said she’d pay you for it and that she’d make sure you were comfortable. At first you jumped at the idea but quickly took it back when you realised just how much people would possibly be watching the live and it worried you. Firstly, you weren’t a big person on social media, sure you had a private account to keep up with friends and family, but you wouldn’t consider yourself into the social media movement and secondly, you and Scarlett like to keep your relationship private. Of course, the world knew about the two of you but considering you both didn’t have social media it was peaceful without the consistent rumours and people thinking they had any say in the relationship. 

“Can I sleep on it?” You asked switching off the lamp on your side of the bed. “Of course, honey, like I said, I won’t push it anymore” Scarlett smiled before her eyes returned to her own book. “Goodnight” you smiled and snuggled up to her side causing her to chuckle and put away her book, “come here you” she shuffled to lay down, wrapping her warm arms round you, “that’s better” you chuckled before the two of you drifted into a slumber.

By morning, you woke up just before Scarlett did, still in her arms as the morning sun crept through the curtains. Watching her peacefully sleep made you wonder what were you really worried about? You’ve got the world’s most caring and beautiful person asleep beside you and all she wants is to involve you in her life even more than you are. A soft smile tugged on your lips as you kissed her cheek causing her to stir, “I want to do it baby” you whispered softly. 

Scarlett’s flickered open as she processed your words, “can you say that again?” She spoke in her morning voice that always had you in a chokehold. “I want to do it, the live” you repeated with another smile. Scarlett kissed your forehead, “thank you honey, it’ll be so much fun, I promise” she spoke before her tired body fell back asleep for a few more minutes. 

Getting to the office the two of you were greeted with the warm smiles of those who help Scarlett and Kate make The Outset as successful as it is, everybody loved when you came in and they loved more seeing how much chemistry you both had. Many times, Scarlett would be found on the iconic sofa with you, her head on rested on your shoulder as you both went over the new product ideas. You made sure to not wear any make up this morning and your hair was up, out of your face. 

Walking into the room designed for anything to do with interviews and video promos make you slightly nervous but once you held Scarlett slip her hand into yours, all that went away as you sat down in front of the iPhone that was sitting on a tripod. “It’ll be fun and over before you know it” Scarlett smiled as she made sure the products were ready for her to apply on you. “We’re ready whenever you guys are” Kate smiled standing behind the camera. 

“I’m ready” you smiled at Scarlett. Kate counted down from 3 before pressing the live button on Instagram. “We’ll give it a few moments for people to join but in the meantime Hi everyone!” Scarlett smiled to the camera as Kate came into the frame, standing on your left side. “I’m here with my lovely work-wife, Kate” 

“Hi guys!” smiled with a wave.

“And my lovely wife, Y/n” Scarlett placed a gently hand on your right shoulder. 

“Hello” you smiled nervously. “Today we thought we’d show you the amazing Essentials Regimen Bundle, which is available on our website, theoutset.com! This is our daily three step regimen that works together to bring the skin back into balance for a healthy-looking complexion. All you have to do is repeat this routine morning and night for smooth and radiant-looking skin in 3 minutes!” Scarlett smiled as she grabbed the first bottle of product. 

“This little beauty right here” she took the cap off, “I’m talking about my wife by the way” she chuckled, “is my wonderful model for today, we’re going to show you the three steps to the bundle so you can do this in the comfort of your own home” she explains as she puts a generous amount on the tips of her finger. 

“Firstly, we have our Gentle Micellar Antioxidant Cleanser, which is vegan, cruelty free and perfect for sensitive skins” she adds as Kate pulls the bowl of warm water in front of you, “Make sure you wet your face with warm water before applying a dime to the skin” Scarlett adds as you gently splash the warm water onto your face ready for her to apply the cleanser. Your eyes squeezed shut as the coldness of the of the cleaner hit your skin, Scarlett gently rubbed it into your skin as Kate spoke more about the product. “Once you’ve done that, simply rinse the skin and pat dry with a clean towel” Scarlett adds after Kate had finished. You rinsed your face and patted it dry just like Scarlett said. 

One of the girls was making sure the live was going well, she stood and watched from behind the phone, giving a thumbs up throughout the live. What you and Scarlett didn’t see was the number of comments fans were sending at the sight of the two of you, so much love and support that would’ve made both your hearts warm if you’d ready it. 

“Step two is our Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum, and you guessed it, it’s vegan!” Scarlett smiled, “Apply a few pumps of serum into your hands and gently sweep over the face and neck in upwards strokes” She intrusts as she does so to your face and neck, her soft and smooth hands relaxing you as your eyes were closed. Kate again went on to explain more about the product and its uses as Scarlett made sure to cover your skin with the serum. 

“Our final step is the Nourishing Squalane Daily Moisturizer! All you have to do, on clean, dry skin, smooth moisturizer over the face and neck.” Scarlett explains once again before applying the product to your face. This time you didn’t close your eyes, the whole time you left them open and looked deeply into her beautiful eyes as she ran her fingers over your face. “You’re so beautiful” you whispered so softly that only Scarlett could hear earning a smile from her. 

Once Scarlett was done applying the products she turned to the camera and said they’d answer some questions if anybody had any. No surprises when some of the questions were about you and Scarlett rather than The Outset. You pulled Scarlett gently into your lap placing a kiss on her cheek not caring for what the camera saw. The iPhone was placed on the table with the camera now facing the two of you as you both read through some of the questions. Scarlett respectfully looked over the questions that didn’t have anything to do with the products. 

Scarlett and Kate both answered questions for a few moments before sharing some exciting news about what was to come to the brand, the whole time you had your arms wrapped around Scarlett’s waist as she sat in your lap. You loved watching her talk about her brand, the passion and love she has for it always made you proud of her in a whole new way.

“I know this doesn’t have anything to do with our topic here, but I just saw a few people asking if they could steal Y/n from me? What?” Scarlett chuckled with a confused look. You couldn’t help but giggle, placing another kiss on her cheek, “I’m sorry, I thought we made it clear I was off the market?” you played along with a playful look, showing the camera your wedding ring, “I’m all hers” you added. 

“Well, aren’t I just lucky” Scarlett slightly turned to you and kissed your lips softly, “very lucky” she whispered against your lips.

DAI Companion Styles: Sera

Dragon Age Companion Styles series

The fashion in the Dragon Age universe (in keeping with the overall aesthetics of the games) has undergone an interesting kind of evolution over the course of the three games, various side media, and fourteen real-world years this franchise has been around. And disjointed as some of it may be, it’s something that interests me, both in terms of its real-world influences and in terms of the in-universe implications for worldbuilding and characters. It’s an element for which I would love to see even more discussion and analysis, I thought it would be fun to dive into it by taking a look at the different base outfits companions wear in Inquisition, and talking about how they fit with the characters and the world they inhabit. I don't know how many of these I will end up doing, but I'd like to do some and I think it will be fun.

Disclaimer: I am not a fashion expert, dress historian, or professional designer! I'm just a gamer who likes to sew and has a casual interest in historical fashion, and a great interest in fantasy worldbuilding and the implications thereof, and that's where I'm coming from on these posts. I'd also love to hear thoughts from fans who have a more in-depth background in historical dress, textiles, etc. Also I'm going to be talking about clothing and not armor because I know a lot less about armor.

I’m going to start with Sera, of course, because it's me. ;)

So I've mentioned before that I really like the concept of Sera's outfit. The upper silhouette in particular seems directly drawn from the Fereldan commoner fashions of Dragon Age: Origins, the styles of Sera's youth in Denerim. For example, here's Kaitlyn in Origins, wearing some typical commoner clothing:

Note the plaid, the bare shoulders, the underarm straps (which have always looked incredibly uncomfortable to me)! We see several variations on this style in Origins, including leather vests and even some floral fabrics, but the off-the-shoulder look is nearly ubiquitous on commoner women:

Noble-born women in Origins seem to forego the cold shoulders, but we still see similar shapes in the upper silhouette, including those dang shoulder straps that go under the arms:

The commoner styles of Ferelden in 9:30 Dragon even reappear a decade later in Inquisition! Which doesn’t surprise me much, as trends move a lot more slowly for rural commoners than for wealthy aristocrats.

We even have the weird leather neckerchief thing, a staple of the early 9:30s in Ferelden (and convenient way to hide the neck seams on those character models)! Like the collars in Origins, Sera's does not tie at the back, and a close-up view of hers reveals side seams and presumably a closure of some sort.

So let’s talk about the breeches!

I'm going to call these "breeches" both because it's a word Sera uses and it's what I think they most closely resemble, especially given that they end below the knee but do not extend to the ankle. (Trousers or pants would be full-length.) First of all, it's notable that Sera is wearing breeches because it's a break with the Fereldan silhouettes we saw above, which are pretty universally long straight skirts hitting about mid-calf.

The waist of Sera's breeches is covered by her tunic, but I would guess that they might close with lacing (which can be seen on some of the Inquisitor’s Skyhold outfits) or a buttoned fall (a front panel with buttons on each side, which I think I've seen in some Orlesian noble concept art).

My guess is that Sera's breeches are newer than her tunic, because of the slim cut; they more closely resemble the Orlesian men's fashions of the present in Inquisition than the sort of looser trousers we see in Ferelden circa 9:31 Dragon. Going by the plaid alone I would have called them Fereldan, but based on the cut I have to call these breeches Orlesian, and possibly a more recent acquisition for Sera. While plaideweave does not appear to be currently on trend in Inquisition, Val Royeaux is a center of high fashion and constantly-changing trends among the upper classes and I don't have trouble believing that plaideweave might have been fashionable sometime in the years Sera has lived there.

A detail I love about these breeches is that they are cut on the bias! Synthetic elastic fabrics and machine-knits don't exist in the non-industrialized south of Thedas so far as we know, but woven fabrics have a bit of stretch and give when cut diagonally across the weave, and this would be appropriate for a pair of snug-fitting woven breeches, for someone of means. (They would have been expensive, because diagonally into a bolt of cloth means you need more fabric to start with.) We also see plenty of wrinkles and bunches in Sera's breeches, especially where her knees bend, demonstrating that this isn't a perfectly smooth, skintight fabric like a pair of synthetic leggings.

Notably, Sera's breeches have been patched—and patched skillfully, using the same fabric and with perfect pattern-matching. I think the patching had to have been done by a previous owner; Sera might have the skill (she does mention sewing in her journal), but she likely wouldn't have had access to a matching fabric or the patience or desire to pattern-match. This suggests to me that these breeches were owned by someone of lesser means; a noble would not wear visibly-patched clothing however skillfully done, but based on the bright colors I think this garment could have belonged to a noble at one point, before being cast aside. The servants we see in the Winter Palace wear neutral, muted colors in order to draw little attention, so I don't think this is part of a servant's uniform, but it could have been worn by a servant on their off time or by a member of their family. My guess is that these breeches were a once-fashionable garment, discarded by their high-class owner and taken by someone in their employ (maybe even their own tailor, who might still have access to scraps of the original fabric) to be repaired and reused by themselves or a friend or family member. I judge the large, visible stitching on both the patches and the side seams to have been added later, likely by Sera herself when the original stitching began to give out, further extending the life of this garment.

So, the breeches are great. We love the breeches.

I do have some issues with the tunic, but let's start with what's good about it.

I've already mentioned how it's consistent with Fereldan fashions a decade out of date. Based on the style and the fabric, I would say this garment was originally owned by someone in Ferelden of decent but not extravagant means, and Sera either stole it outright or swiped it from a rubbish heap. The wear on the tunic is consistent with its age: it's much more visibly tattered and falling apart than the breeches. However its construction also appears high-quality to me. If we look at the large tatters, we aren't seeing Sera's skin through them, and at the cuff where Sera has rolled up one sleeve we see the same contrasting fabric as the shoulder straps and trim. This tunic has a lining, and this also explains how it's still holding together on Sera's body with so much damage to its outer layer. The asymmetry at the bottom is jagged in a way that suggests part of it was torn off, rather than the garment being intentionally constructed that way.

My big problem with the tunic is its tightness and drape. This is a woven fabric (Highever Weave), and we can see the directionality of the weave very clearly because of the tatters; this garment was not cut on the bias. Even with the spiral-laced closure (love that they used spiral lacing instead of cross-lacing, by the way, just because it's a form of historical lacing that's often overlooked in media), this garment simply would not hang on Sera's figure the way it does in the game. (To be fair, neither would some of the Origins tunics. I have no idea what those are doing.) The form-fitting cut overall just doesn't make sense for a woven fabric, and it doesn't drape like one either—something that I'm sure has frustrated many a cosplayer trying to make this tunic with a comparable material. Without some stretch in the fabric, it's not happening. Even a moderately looser cut would make a lot more sense—compare with how Varric's tunic of the same weave hangs on him. Bottom line, Sera's tunic fits and drapes like a modern machine-knit, and if I wanted to make a cosplay that actually creates the same silhouette, that's what I'd use. Though personally I'd probably discard the silhouette and try to make something with a woven fabric that simply fits more realistically, and if I were to redesign Sera's base look, this is the one change I'd make.

The shape of the tunic is what really gives away the contemporary influence on Sera's outfit design. Leggings and skinny jeans came into fashion in a big way in the mid-2000s, often paired with a longer drapey top, and they hung on through the mid-2010s when Dragon Age: Inquisition was released, and were an obvious influence on the design of all the female companions as well as the female Inquisitor armor styles. Cold-shoulder tops were also a popular trend in the early 2010s. (I guess Dragon Age: Origins was on the cutting edge there.) Asymmetry and shredded clothing were also 2010s trends.

I also want to take a moment to look at Sera's shoes! Her base outfit includes what appears to be some kind of black slip-on shoe. These shoes are interesting to me because I think that like the breeches, they might be men's shoes. There's a similarity to the shoes in this concept art:

I think this is pretty neat because while the real-world influences on Sera's look can be clearly tied to trends in women's fashion, in-universe her clothing is probably two-thirds menswear. I think that's pretty cool and maybe something to consider with regard to Sera's personal gender presentation as a lesbian in the context of the society she lives in.

I suspect Sera's shoes to be a bit older and out of fashion, since they bear a distinctly rounded toe and the Orlesian high fashion of the moment favors a pointed toe. Like the rest of her clothing, I would guess the shoes to be salvaged or stolen.

So overall, despite a few quibbles, I think Sera's base style is pretty great and very appropriate to her character. Her look is proudly lower-class in a highly-stratified society, visibly Fereldan while living in the Orlesian capital, and gender-non-conforming amidst a highly-gendered aristocratic culture.

It's pretty cool! I like it a lot.

Numbers Game Party Attire ~ The Boys

Thank you for this ask! I've been leaving a lot of visual character details vague, especially for the reader, but if enough people would prefer that I describe the other characters in more visual detail within the story, I'd be happy to do so! I just want all of our imaginations to have free reign in this dangerous little world!

BUT SINCE YOU ASKED...

Here's my vision of what Crocodile, Buggy, Mihawk, and Shanks are wearing to the party:

Sir Crocodile

Crocodile is showing off in a super dark purple/dark plum suit and vest with a black scarf and pocket square. It's got some modest black detailing (nothing as extensive as Mihawk's embroidery shenanigans though 😅). His fur coat is all black today, and he's got some gold jewelry and accessories on his suit to match his hook, like a pocket watch chain, his rings, and a crocodile brooch with chains, of course! I couldn't decide if the crocodile would be all gold or covered in emeralds, so you decide! I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, but here's a few pics (the color would be darker than these with the details listed above):

Buggy the Clown

I hope this isn't too disappointing, but I picture Buggy wearing his red Cross Guild potato sack for this party 😅😅😅 He's also got the wild hair and hat situation going on. This is the epitome of him being the leader of the guild, the crazy, menacing clown that has the two ex-warlords at his beck and call (lol), and it felt right to me to have this image he's made for himself lately to carry into this party. I see it as smaller than the giant stretching he does in the anime. It fits around him closer, you can actually see a bit of his body shape, which is why when he floats just slightly inside it as he did during his speech, it gives him a strange, hypnotic movement/gait. For the party outfit, I envision the colors all a bit darker or muted instead of super bright, with some added details on his clothes. I was thinking some lovely embroidered accents from Mihawk, but I don't think stretchy material can be embroidered, so I left that out of my brain, lol.

Dracule Mihawk

Mihawk's outfit is similar to his daily attire, just a little more extra (how is that possible? 😅). Our swordsman is wearing a jacket, NO SHIRT (lol), Kogatana (his cross pendant blade), and his pants and boots are all black. He actually took his hat off when he came inside, but before he did, it had black feathers instead of white. He's returned to his old wine red/dark burgundy shade instead of the gold he's been sporting lately. His jacket is similar, except there are no plain black sections. It is all ridiculous embroidery, with black, silk lining (the giant collar isn't lined though, gotta have those pretty designs framing his face, lol). The jacket also has some Victorian style embellishments like buttons, etc., as well as the shape of it being more suited to a party than a billowing coat. It's got some extra embroidered details along the edges that actually have hints of other colors (even though he dressed our girl up in all black, lol.) Mihawk may have embroidered a little rabbit or two into the detailing of his jacket... I had a hard time finding what I was looking for, but here's what I've got:

Red Haired Shanks

He's literally wearing the same outfit he always does except that the material is slightly nicer, the pants are black, and the shirt is a super dark blue. He's still wearing sandals. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Everything's wrinkled since he's been keeping all his clothes in a bag on the floor of the middle suite since he showed up here, lol. (His clothes are probably always wrinkly, tbh.) If Mihawk wasn't so preoccupied with his little rabbit, he definitely would have forced Shanks to wear something else, lol. Of course, this fucker manages to look amazing, and far more impressive than most everyone in that swanky room. Shanks could rock a potato sack, and everyone on the Grand Line would still simp for him 😅

I hope you enjoyed me dressing up our sexy villains like little dolls, lol. I would love to hear what your numbers girl's boys are wearing!

The party is moving right along now, so I'll get back to writing Part 26! Think it's time for anyone to die yet? It'd be a shame to get blood all over these pretty clothes... 😈😈

Okay what the heck is going on in the 4.2 trailer????

What the hell is ‘everyone’s dead’?? And Papa???? Is that Neuvillette? That was where my mind first went to but there’s the whale as well I guess. I’m living for the Childe lore, I just hope it’s executed well. I’m also really not a fan of Skirk’s design. She just feels like another pale-haired pale-skinned duplicate. Nothing stands out about her. She just looks like 500 mihoyo characters mashed together, I thought she might have something special for her (honestly if someone said her design was AI generated I wouldn’t be surprised). Also, I’m really not a fan of how exposing her clothes are. Genshin’s really just not great on that front for female characters, there’s either an Obligatory Boob Window, or the nonsense Sumeru bikini or an excessively rendered button straining to hold back someone’s shirt despite canonically getting her clothes tailored for herself. But Skirk’s boobs are like,, barely covered in the slightest. I’m not a fan of sex appeal in video games (who would have guessed), especially when it breaks logic’s back to make such impractical clothes ‘make sense’ in canon

But! Furina! I love her clothes! I wish that the design could have changed slightly when the Arkhe alignment switches rather than the white portions turning black, but I really like her clothes. Very classy and regal, I’m glad they went the route they did, I’m a big fan. I’m quite excited, I decided to pull for her since it’s my 18th birthday haha, I hope her character OST is good as well.

Her design is so cool :3 (although those shorts look uncomfortable as heck, I wish they were a bit longer, I feel like sitting down in them would hurt lol).

The story is looking great, Fontaine is absolutely my favourite archon quest so far! I love how all the characters have been characterised, even if I hate them (looking at Wriothesley), Neuvillette and Arlecchino were immediate favourites, Childe of course has always been a character I loved and the hearth siblings + Furina grew on me massively, I didn’t care much about them at the beginning but they all grew on me so much.

There is going to be some proper angst coming up and I am waiting excitedly! The wider plot and lore of Genshin has single handedly been extended to crazy extents by Neuvillette just casually explaining Things That We Definitely Weren’t Supposed To Find Out About.

Voiceplay Visuals: Hoist The Colours

Oh boy, we're heading into the big ones now!

Hoist The Colours was uploaded on September 18, 2021, and features Jose Rosario Jr in his second collaboration with Voiceplay. This one stunned a lot of reactors (one of them, Dennis King of King Family Reacts, literally got up and left the room after the video was finished because he had been rendered speechless by it!), and the video currently sits at 4.6 million views (close to 4.7!) (EDIT/UPDATE: as of the night of the 8th of March, it's now at 4.7, close to 4.8!). So without further ado, let's get right into this one, and hope I don't have to start paying attention to my screenshot count!

Can you believe this was only Cesar's second (full-length) video as a full-time Voiceplay member? Because wow

(Also interestingly enough, Rick Underwood is credited with makeup in the video description (shoutout to Rick!) but no one is credited with costuming, so did everyone just acquire their outfits themselves or what?)

Geoff was in charge of the video creation for this one, as well as doing the arrangement, and he worked together with Eli for the lighting design, so big shoutout to Geoff! (And as always to Eli the lighting whiz)

OKAY a few things to talk about here

First of all, love the set design, it's like the Little Mermaid Medley but on steroids and more pirate themed! Also love the horn-playing skeleton on the left-hand side of the screen (took me a while to notice it ngl 😅)

And of course the outfits/costuming! I can't really think of a lot of things to say individually right now, but there was 100% a lot of thought and effort that went into the clothes (even if the description won't specify who acquired the clothes. I'm going to assume Geoff, since the overall video credit goes to him.)

Oh hey it's my blog banner/background, or close enough to it at least! (Hoist The Colours has a decent few very cool visual moments that are totally screencap-worthy, and of course that's what I'm here for - to point them out!)

Geoff may play the villain (or otherwise just-generally-creepy/spooky/scary guy) a lot in videos, but as of the last few years at least, Eli's often been looking like the one that you really don't wanna pick a fight with. (Also cool ring, and is that fake scar tissue on his head?)

This is a better shot of everyone's outfits actually. A few notes on everyone (except Eli, who I just talked about?)

Cesar: Very ghostly, especially with the cloudy contact lens in one eye. Love the white coat/jacket, and love the pop of colour with the red sash! Also what is he holding/shaking? I thought it was a set of old-fashioned keys, but it doesn't look like it.

Jose: The "captain" of this "motley crew", obviously. Cool coat, and love the sword.

Layne: Not too much going on with his outfit, relatively speaking, but I love the bit of eyeliner under his eyes, and the fake scar on his cheek! (Seriously Rick did a great job here, as he always does)

Geoff: Wearing at least two necklaces, and in true Geoff Castellucci fashion, he's got the top two buttons of his shirt undone (well, gotta show off those necklaces! 😉😁). ALSO, bonus thing that I literally only just realized after taking this screencap, is that Geoff has "VP" on his right arm, done in a way that makes it look like like scar tissue I believe.

That is seriously a very cool and very smooth transition. Who edited this? Was that Geoff too? (Also Crazy Eyes Layne!)

As I figured, one of the necklaces Geoff is wearing, the gold one, is for costume purposes, and the other one, the silver one with the diamond-shaped pendant, is the necklace from Kathy that Geoff basically never takes off (bless him <3 )

I think Cesar's holding old-fashioned shackles/handcuffs or something?

Hang on that skeleton on the left lost his little horn/trumpet and got stabbed?? 😅😂

Yeah Layne had fun in this one I can tell 😁 (also his vest is more detailed than first appears! Very nice!)

What a really freaking awesome shot/moment. In terms of "money shots", these two might in fact be two of the most awesome stills from any Voiceplay video ever (or so far, anyway).

He's got charisma, I'll give him that (also cool necklace!)

How are they just an independent acapella group that make YouTube videos that we can all watch for free? Like seriously, this is top tier stuff (both in terms of the video and the song cover itself), but this wasn't even Voiceplay at their peak! Voiceplay doesn't have a peak! They don't stick to a lane, they take "risks", they get creative, they will sing pretty much anything, and it works

Voiceplay says in the description "we may have gotten a little carried away with this one", but honestly would it really be Voiceplay if they didn't?

Anyway, I've got many more awesome videos ahead of me to write about, so stay tuned!

Meet Vox!📺

Made my own take on Vox for fun! This one was really fun to do!📺

Wanted to go for a mix of 50s salesman and modern TV show host. He’s a man of show and business afterall!

Made his screen a mix of 50s TV and modern flat-screen . Show even with a his new trends, fads and updates he's still a product of his time📺

Replaced the bowtie with a tie. To parallel with my Alastor more and neckties were the iconic 50s vibe and allude to him being a big businessman.👔👨‍💼

For his color scheme, ngl I always liked Voxs, especially since it has good contrast to Al, @the-burd-lord suggested I'd go with RGB theme, colors on display screen. Ngl I was conflicted what colors to go with for the vees(Primary, Red blue purple etc). But then I realized when u mix those colors u get those other colors and then I decided to give the Vees two main color themes for each. One for show, the other their true colors! I also looked at 50’s colors for inspiration, mixing it with a more modern electric ZAP! ⚡️ also looked at his pilot colors.

Vox advertises with bright electric blue like cyan! In reality, he's a dark sad blue.

Val advertises with passionate and romantic red but really he's a deceitful toxic yellow

Velvet advertises with elegant purple/magenta but known truth an envious and materialistic green.

Wanted his look to parallel Alastors, keep the vibe of dressing like him but also looking like his own brand! Both have Wave symbols as well as symbols relating to their special media, Alastor radio 📻, Vox TV 📺. Power buttons on his suit, TV waves in his tie, like a satellite📡 🛰️ ,

even incorporated his Logo. Love it!!!! Wanted Vox to give off a newer, brighter vibe! Show he’s keeping up with trends more than Al, staying relevant. Like those TV product ADS!!!!!!!!

Added sharper edges! Sharp guy!

Gave him a bigger build. More square shaped square along with his facial features for a robotic feel◼️🤖📺

Went more with his old Shoe design, but made them white with red.also added more stripes like the OG.

Removed the top hat to make his antennae look like a hat itself, along with making the V symbol.

For his time the pinstripe suit Def fits him, removed the long coattails.
