okay okay so first of all Leo would not leave your side for a minute. he is so sweet and attentive and gentle with you while your coming back from anesthesia like a motherfucking walking lime green flag. like this. if he's still in college at MIT or wherever he's collecting diplomas like pokemon he will not HESITATE to ditch all classes that day to take care of you with or without his school's permission. if you cry on anesthesia like I do he will be SO FUCKING TENDER with you. he gets every possible caring for someone hack from his mom and from the internet and every resource possible to make sure you're happy and pain free and comfy. He brings you ice packs for your cheeks with tongs so he doesn't accidentally melt them with his hands (it did happen once. you both laughed so hard.) and he always makes sure you eat enough yogurt so your antibiotics don't mess up your stomach. he stays close to you, helps take care of your hair and skin, watches cartoons and movies with you. if you like having your nails done, he will SO give you mani pedis. even if you normally get acrylics or gel or whatever, seeing the slightly messy, sparkly matching nail polish in your favorite colors Leo tenderly and carefully put on your nails and toes makes you so happy every time you see it. he pets your head and peppers you with kisses and tells you how brave you were in a soft voice. he gets you a "conradulations on letting them steal your teeth" basket full of plushies and juice and intricate little coloring pages and crossword puzzles and stuff to keep you busy. He plays cozy video games with you and builds the most insane shit for you in animal crossing. you post it online and some people speculate that he hacked or modded the game to do that but nope. Leo simply loves you to the point of invention. If your swelling or pain is real bad and you're also a demigod he'll check with Will (aka the entire demisquad's informal PCP) how much ambrosia or nectar to give you to help you heal quickly and take the edge off. He holds your hands while you take little walks around your house or apartment a few times a day, like your recovery instructions say to. he makes you what he affectionatley referres to as "gourmet baby food", aka soups and soft pates and purees that taste better than most solid food. he relays all get well soon messages from your friends, including how percy joked that getting your wisdom teeth out means annabeth has less competition for the title of group brain cell wielder. your kitty Jackjack curls up on your lap as soon as Leo initially brings you back from the dentist and doesn't leave your side for a minute. every selfie you and Leo send the group chat has Jackjack curled up on your chest, purring and drooling contently. You have no idea how Leo makes something like pulling teeth feel like a spa vacation, but he makes everything into such a warm, cozy, happy experience. but you guess that when you love someone as much as you and Leo love each other, it's not too surprising.

Alternative fashion and Witchcraft

I know it is sometimes brought up that black clothing has protective qualities, but there is a lot more to alt fashion and Witchcraft than just black clothes. What follows is a small guide to how to use alternative fashion in your Witchcraft.

(Also obligatory disclaimer i don't identify as goth but I do listen to some goth music and I like goth fashion, but I also like a lot of other alternative subcultures and music like punk, metal, emo ect.) Don't gatekeep on this post. Anyway:

Leather

Leather is great for protection and connection to spirits of the dead. Since genuine leather was once the part of an animal I find it important to emphasise the spirit of the cow when I wear it, since that is where it came from. I buy second hand to not support fast fashion. leather jackets and clothing are very common in several different alternative subcultures. I was a big metal head when I was younger and the leather jacket was basically glued to me at all times. Leather jackets are great for protection thanks to their thick hide. Leather harnesses can he a great addition to outfits to add some witchy protection in style.

I use leather gloves as a form of veiling, because I use my hands a lot in Witchcraft. Those fingerless battle gloves you see a lot in emo and metal are great if you want something you can still access your phone in.

If steampunk is more your style, brown leather works just as well as black, more linked to the earth than pure protection.

Spikes and studs

If it has spikes or studs, it can be used for defensive protection/baneful protection, essentially GTFO for those negative vibes. If the spikes are made of steel that is a bonus, as it contains iron which is protective against negative spirits. You can buy a leather awl and studs from most craft stores and get to work on it is yourself, charming the spikes or studs as you go. Clothes covered in safety pins in punk style are great as well. You can charm safety pins as you add them onto your battle jacket/leather jacket/belt/whatever it is.

Collars

Collars in alt fashion are quite common, thanks to overlap with the kink community. They are a good symbol of love and sex, especially if you put it on with your partner's help. You obviously don't have to be a sub to wear one, if you're not kinky they can generally be good protection rather than as a form of sex magic, since they cover your neck.

Rips

Ripped clothing can be great for adding intention to a piece if you rip it yourself. If not, you can add a thread or two through the rips to add intention that way. Regular colour magic applies with the thread.

Patches and badges

Patches and badges are pretty common in alternative subcultures, especially punk. If a patch is sew-on, black or red thread can add protection, green for money magic ect. You can also sew sigils onto your piece if so inclined. Badges can be a simple way to charm a piece of clothing, I have a few death-inspired badges (a zombie hand, an anatomical heart with a frankenstein quote on it, a creeper logo) which I charm with death energies for spirit work and protection from my spiritual team. Pride flag badges are great for gender affirming glamours and protection from homophobes.

Stompy boots

I fucking love stompy boots. I wear leather doc martens mostly, and when you polish them it is a great time to add in intention. Charm your boot polish or leather conditioner, charm a spray you use on vegan leather. I add a small amount of protection oil to the insoles as well, if I'm going on a journey I will mix in a little protection oil with my leather conditioner and rub it into my shoes.

I've seen some people add beads and safety pins to the laces of their boots, and again this is a great way to add in some magic.

Makeup

There are loads of different styles of makeup in alternative fashion, but my personal favourite for Witchcraft is traditional goth makeup.

I don't do ghost face when I do goth makeup, but if you do you can add sigils into the foundation as you apply it. Hell, charm your foundation.

For eyeliner- anything spikey and unblended will give a sharper edge to the magic, if you want something softer then blending is your friend. Eyeliner and mascara and eyeshadow are all good for spells involving seeing and perception. Even for scrying they can be useful.

For lipstick, black lipstick is a classic, but dark green, purple, red or ombré are often used too. Lipstick is great for glamours involving speech and spells of communication. The world is your oyster when it comes to makeup magic and alt makeup. I've seen some e-girls use a heart on their cheek, I know a few emo and punk rock bands which opt for a cross on their cheek. Really any symbol is fair game, I've used runes on my cheek as part of my look before and it is great. Sigils of course are also good for whatever spell you want.

Religious symbolism

Religious symbols are quite common in emo and metal styles. The generally 'satanic' look mall goth tends to go for often incorperates upside down crosses, satanic imagery such as demons ect, all of which are great if you're a satanist or demonolator. Pentegrams and moon symbols are generally common as well, a great addition for magical practice and protection. I've seen some goths use a rosary in their styles, which is great if you're a Catholic practitioner, or you can get (or make) custom prayer beads for your particular deities.

Hair

I could go on about all the different alternative hairstyles, but I will try to keep it breif

Liberty spikes can be styled with intention, draw a sigil on your hair gel or hair spray bottle to help with this. Similar to the spike section, Liberty spikes can be used as a form of baneful protection (get the fuck away from me vibes).

Bat's nest hair can be teased with intention as well. Charming the comb you use for this will definitely help. Also good luck to you I have no Idea how you manage it I am awful at Bat's nest styles.

Hair dye generally can be applied with intention or charmed, and you can incorporate colour magic into this working depending on the result you want.

For emo and scene hair, I've seen some people cut their fringe with a razor blade for this. I don't know a lot about it but I'm sure there are some uses for it.

For shorter hair, hair gel can be used to slick back your hair and can easily be charmed. I personally add a bit of product to mine to help protect me when I leave the house.

Notes

As you may have noticed I do a lot of protective magic and that is my main area if expertise, along with spirit work. Much of what I've mentioned here can also be adapted for spells, especially glamours as keeping something on your person or altering your appearance can be used as a glamour. I haven't mentioned a few other things here such as Tattoos as I don't have any myself and am not sure about giving advice on tattoo magic.

Alternative subcultures are lot more than just fashion, and you can embue your alternative looks with the energy of your particular subculture to lend yourself a certain amount of power and connection to others. You also don't need to go all-out for these examples to work their magic, as it were. I mainly do this sort of thing when I go clubbing or to gigs, but adding a collar or leather jacket, a band t-shirt ect to a more everyday look can work just fine. Shopping second hand can be a great way to expand your alternative clothing collection, especially when you're going to be altering or ripping something yourself. Have fun with it, and enjoy.

Hi there!

Its been, a longgg time since ive been on tumblr and ive started anew! However I wanted to talk about something that has became like extremely important for me these past few months.

And I know most are gonna be like 'ah damn its gonna be something political' But its not.

Its about the character of Izzy Hands from what is my favourite show Our Flag Means Death. I was going to write this somewhere more private, like my notes app. Eventually decided against that when I realised I just felt the need to talk about it to someone else.

So without further adieu, here is why the character of Izzy Hands is so damn important to me as a trans guy and a gay guy.

To start off, I want to talk about the fact that, Izzy is one of the first characters within media I have been able to relate too and understand on a level I didn't even realise possible. I hold that same loyalty this character has, that same instinct to follow along with those you know and not to question them, even if those people aren't objectively *good* so to say.

Because just like this damn angry little man, I do the same, I follow those who arent objectively good, even if it results in more pain and suffering than good. Ive followed people who have actively called me an animal before due to my sexuality and gender - Just like how Edward has called Izzy a dog in the past, albeit for different reasons. Ive known what its like to question my loyalty to those people but ultimately stay because in some way ive loved them.

Izzy Hands has genuinely been the first character I ever felt truly connected too in this form of sense. And dont even get me started on how he was in the aftermath of losing his leg.

I'm someone who has been losing both my hearing and my sight at *alarming* rates. Like to the point im having to have optician appointments every couple of months to make sure my prescription isn't changing more than it is already. Its got to the point where my glasses arent actually helping me with some aspects and im needing to slowly begin trying to adjust to using a white cane so that way i can try stay safe within public areas. Dont even get me started on my hearing loss.

Ill never forget how I felt when I saw Izzy's reaction to himself within his depressed state after losing his leg; (the whole "what even are you?" scene), having to take about 20 minutes to just sit and cry. Because I felt that so fully after having to experience my own depression to my own circumstances.

He's a character that from start to end I found being able to see myself in.

And by loving him it's like loving the part of myself I didn't think that I could love.

This character is one that i'm going to hold so damn dearly to my heart because I don't think Im ever going to be able to find one that ill be able to actively relate too on so many damn levels.

The date had started off well.

They'd had their ups and downs, but here there were- finally on an actual date.

Dirk was glancing over the menu with a bored expression as John tried desperately to think of something to say.

Hadn't he memorized a list of conversation starters for exactly this moment? Why could he no longer remember a single one? Why were his hands so sweaty?? It was just Dirk…

"I'll just get fish." Dirk's announcement broke the silence so suddenly that John jumped.

"O-oh! Yeah, me too! That's my favourite!" John supplied quickly. Dirks judging, amused gaze hinted that he'd failed that particular interaction.

Perhaps out of pity, Dirk started the next conversation. "Do you… like anime?" Something about Dirks tone suggested he was referencing something, but John didn't know what.

He decided to just answer sincerely. "Yeah! Or at least, I've watched SAO and that was pretty good…" Another failed interaction, John could tell immediately.

At least he was starting to remember the list of conversation starters he'd googled. He chose one at random. "Hey, so, what's your favourite film?" Film? Who said film??

Dirks posture shifted, a subtle thing, but John knew he'd finally managed to hit an actual interest of his.

Dirk almost smiled. He said, "the best movie of all. A masterpiece of art, called: Human Centipede."

Ah. John was definitely getting murdered tonight.

"Unironically," Dirk clarified quickly, as if that made it any better. Against all logic, he kept going. "The costume design was a highlight, but I like it for the plot."

Well, it'd been a few years since John saw the movie. Maybe he was misremembering something. "Uh- tell me what the plot's about!"

Dirk leaned closer, over the table. "German doctor sews three people ass-to-mouth."

Not what he'd been hoping to hear. "Cool!" John managed, his voice way too high. That definitely had to be a red flag, as if everything else wasn't… he really didn't want to get stabbed.

"Human Centipede is a tour de force," Dirk continued, and surely he knew John was clueless as to what the hell that meant? "I admire the narrative of character growth."

This was the last straw. Maybe John should've said that several straws ago, but he needed to get out. Why did he leave his phone in the car?? It wasn't romantic- that was dangerous! Without any better options, or at least none that John could think of, he tried blinking in Morse code while staring directly at the waiter.

"Why are you blinking so much?" Dirks tone was innocent enough, but clearly John had been obvious if Dirk had actually stopped his rambling to point it out.

"I've got something in my eye!" John improvised quickly.

"Here, let me get it out-,"

John didn't know what Dirk was about to do, but he backed up in his chair so fast it screeched against the floor. "No thank you!"

"Bonjour."

John jumped way too badly when the waiter visited their table.

"Sir was blinking at me- is this because your date is a freak?"

He was just gonna say it like that?? Obviously John had to deny, and was forced to watch helplessly as the waiter shrugged and left them to it.

Dirk tilted his head slightly, and John felt like he was seeing into his soul.

"Stop hiding behind your- silly made-up red flag," Dirk suggested, and John winced. had he been that obvious? "Take a chance on the best relationship we've never had."

"M-maybe you're right," John admitted, forcing a deep breath. "And I'm just looking for excuses…" This was silly, really. Everything they'd been through, and this was the thing to make him uncertain? "I'm- a bit fucked up, but…" John hesitated, all too aware of Dirks gaze on him. "I think I'm ready to choose- whatever this ends up as."

Dirk just shrugged and leaned back in his chair, as if John couldn't see how red his face was. "Well- we could end up as real love-of-my-life soulmate AU type shit. Make sure as fuck our wedding can't even end up on cable television, how messed up we make it. Really theme it…"

While Dirk rambled on, John just smiled and nodded vaguely in agreement. He had no idea what Dirk was on about, but it was… charming.

FLs and i even tend to be biased for them just bc there's a lot of misogyny about the subject matter, so i normally don't bat an eye unless it's a writing choice i find unsuitable / doesn't fulfill the potential it could've achieved with an interesting plot.

(btw the context is that the first screenie which this rant also applies to was when some guy caught the baddies and the FL is like "No let's reward them for trying to kill us. they're just misunderstood!! i bet if we try really hard we can all get along!!")

but! i only really like it when it actually does something useful, like thematically or symbolically. like tohru's innate goodness for furuba inline with the sohma's family curse and mitsumi's unending positivity and earnestness that helps the people around her heal from emotional wounds. not that they're mary sues in any way, but since people understand mary sues as "female protagonists who can do no wrong and will be liked no matter what" (even thought their psychology and personality is just genuinely likeable), i think it makes my point clear. there's a way to write a character who is Good and Kind without cheapening them to a naivete that at best, makes the mc pitiable, or worst, is treated like the mc's totally unique worldview of "lets be nice to people and never hurt anyone ever :)" is the end all be all of the story and the solution to the plot. kindness and empathy is a coiled spring that projects you forward, a motivator. it's how you guide your hand and where it goes, not that the hand is never raised. i don't agree that cowardice towards change and the potential promise of conflict is any kind of wisdom >:T plus it kinda puts the shame to the idea of kindness as a legitimate basis for political strategy, and that leads to some set up for a lot of zero sum games i don't care for in this specific story. there is a good story where each character is trying to one up each other politically, psychologically, at all times, but this is not that story and so the tone feels very off kilter.

but yeah!! sometimes a character is just OP and the story is not even having fun with it (aka its not satire or irony), which makes me think they want to take it seriously. and my serious thoughts was that it sucked.

❌ - What kind of things would end any relationship for them? Is there a history behind why these things bother them? Could they ever take someone back despite this? If so or if not, why?

answered over here, but I'll also answer it for Hendrix and Diomede, considering their document is open right now! Hendrix has few taboos, so it takes a lot to end things outright in that sense. He's also a fairly obsessive person with the people he loves and gets close to, which adds another layer to things, because he gets so involved emotionally he can ignore what some might consider red flags. He is however, strangely politically well-read for a man who lives in a slowly rotting tanker, so I suppose those perspectives would be a potential relationship ender. He takes a real issue with individualism as a political ideology and anything that surpresses people's right to democracy, etc etc. He's such a firm believer in community strength and values (I would describe him as politically Marxist, socially Hedonist) that individualist lines of thinking just aren't compatible, and that's something that could end a relationship. As with a lot of things with Hendrix though, it can also really depend on the mood you catch him in, because one day's unforgivable ethical difference is another day's interesting and invigorating debate. Diomede is complex. Historically, he's only been in a handful of relationships, and all of those were with members of the Vagor, the nomadic group of weaponsmiths he belongs to. In those there was always an understanding that their dedication to each other was secondary to their dedication to the rest of the Vagor and their community, as is part of their teachings. Now that he's been exiled, I think aside from like, basic moral stuff of "don't hurt children, don't abuse animals, don't torture people", he really doesn't have all that much he'd have major issues with because he's never been in a relationship without the guidelines of the Vagor's teachings as a general moral and ethical framework. He has to learn for himself what his personal boundaries are, now that the framework of the Vagor has been removed.

💛 In general, how in control of their emotions is your OC? Do they have a good hold on them or do their emotions control them, not the other way around? What do you think is the reason behind this and is your OC ever concerned about their lack of or good control?

Hendrix has untreated and undiagnosed (no medical services in Nod) bipolar disorder so his grasp is Poor, to say the least. Generally, his emotions control him, although that's not to say he can't be extremely calculating and logical at times, it's just that it really depends on the situation and mood. He's used to obeying most of his whims and impulses, and damn the consequences, because who is going to stop him? Not himself, that's for sure. He's vaguely aware of his own instability and recklessness, but he doesn't feel majorly inclined to change this, partially because it's all he's ever known, partially because so long as he's having fun, who really cares? Diomede works a lot to be in control of his emotions. Being the leader of the Vagor for so long, he couldn't let his feelings affect the good of the whole community, and even after his exile that is a mentality he has in the back of his mind. However, since being exiled and not having so many people relying on him, Diomede has found that his emotions feel stronger and are more difficult to resist, and certainly he has obeyed some more impulsive whims than he would have done with the Vagor, like seeking revenge or the like.

Hendrix has lived in Neo-Babylon all his life, and remembers life before the nuclear power plant blew up shortly after the time bomb was dropped on Rhapsody. He was born to a surprisingly wealthy family, but separated from them due to his general delinquent behaviour as a youth, and his anti-establishment inclinations. This cumulated when his family left to enter Prydam, a heavily protected enclosure built to separate the wealthy Neo-Babylonians from the poor, and destoryed the bridge connecting it to the rest of the city behind them. Over time as he lived there, his body began to mutate from radioactive exposure like many in Neo-Babylon. It was around this time when he started getting into pirate lore and stories, and when his body start to grow shells and coral and his skin became vaguely squid-like and his body changed to house tentacles, he took that as a sign, and moved with many other aquatic-themed mutated people into one of the giant old boats that was part of the Neo-Babylon shipping economy before society collapsed. He really likes it there, living his dream a pirate captain of the seas, even if he isn't actually going anywhere. Diomede was born in the wild, to his Vagor parents. The Vagor are nomadic, and travel all around Nod, so he never had a particular home in terms of place, but rather in terms of people. He's been essentially on the move all his life, and gets angsty if he starts staying in one place too long. He doesn't mind having familiar areas he comes back to, but one home? Forget it.

@fortheunicornchild tagged me in this ask set, so I'm posting the answers here. (Sorry it took so long, been a busy week.)

1. favourite place in your country? I really loved the times me and my family were on Skye and there was this really nice wee restaurant in Portree. I think I just liked the illusion of isolation (there's a bridge that connects the island to the mainland).

2. do you prefer spending your holidays in your country or travel abroad? When I was younger, we couldn't afford to go anywhere, so I spent all my holidays in Scotland, with a few days out into the very north of England (specifically around Hadrian's Wall). So, now that I work and have money of my own, I prefer to travel outwith the country when I can, especially since I want to go see the world.

3. does your country have access to sea? We're an island, baby.

4. favourite dish specific for your country? Haggis. Usually with broccoli and tatties (not a big fan of neeps).

5. favourite song in your native language? Technically, my native language should be Gaelic and I don't know many specific songs of it. But I do love listening to Gaelic singers. Such a melodic language, really.

6. most hated song in your native language? None, I guess.

7. three words from your native language that you like the most? Failte - means welcome. Usige beatha - literally means water of life, or whisky. Ceilidh - a traditional night of dance, super fun.

8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom? Not really. I suppose people just think I'm British, which is also true, but I consider myself Scottish first.

9. which of your neighbouring countries would you like to visit most/know best? I'd like to go back to Norway. I went once, for a week, on my own, a week before everything really opened up. There was a bit of snow too, and I wasn't really prepared since I somehow thought that it must have been spring by then. Anyway, I'd like to see what I missed and also go to the fjords, since I was mostly in Oslo.

10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language? To be honest, I don't really know any Gaelic swears offhand. I'd have to look it up. But, in English/Scots, I do like "bellend".

11. favourite native writer/poet? Robert Burns. Gotta love Tam O'Shanter and To a Moose.

12. what do you think about English translations of your favourite native prose/poem? Burns's stuff is in Scots. If you translated it to English, that would be sacrilegious.

Most of our superstitions and traditions are probably widely known, or so I think. I suppose people would find it strange that a Viking festival is still being celebrated in a non Nordic country.

14. do you enjoy your country’s cinema and/or TV? Yeah, there's loads of fun things! "There's been a murder."

22. what makes you proud about your country? what makes you ashamed? We tried our hardest not to be in the UK centuries ago. And the Treaty of Arbroath was apparently the precursor to the French and American declarations of Independence. And, for ashamed, a lot of Scottish entrepreneurs and businessmen basically became slave traders and I think they kick-started it? Whether they did or not, most of the slave traders were Scottish, I think, though I'd have to look that up to confirm.

23. which alcoholic beverage is the favoured one in your country? Probably beer/cider/lager? I don't really drink, so I don't know which is which. Although, I remember drinking a lot of vodka and soft drinks, so... 🤷🏻‍♀️

24. what other nation is joked about most often in your country? Probably the English/Americans, about equally.

25. would you like to come from another place, be born in another country? Nah, I'm fine with Scotland, even if we're still stuck in the UK.

28. does your country have a lot of lakes, mountains, rivers? do you have favourites? Yup. So, so many. Though we call them lochs. Not got a favourite, really. I love the scenery in Scotland.

29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country? I suppose the west of the Central Belt and the east have a sort of rivalry. But it's not that serious, more of a joke.

30. do you have people of different nationalities in your family? Nope. All Scottish. Though, apparently, my ancestors on my dad's side were Irish at once point.

Growing up in a very small city, I find it fascinating to see someone coming from the same place as I do.

My hometown (homecity?) is not only (geographically) small, but is also...very boring. Not boring in the sense of there's nothing to do there, not at all. In fact, if you mean modern entertainments, there are lots of them: Theme parks, cinemas, museums, pubs, restaurants...and an excessive amount of shopping malls.

But when it comes to arts and fandoms...I find it severely lacking there.

The only form of media that most of us are interested in is anime (which is why I am also a weeb), and...that's it. And some video games too. But even then there isn't a fandom for those things.

(Like I am sure a lot of us know what Pokémon is, and probably love it too, but you won't see people making fanarts or conventions for it)

So, there's a lot of things I am interested in that others won't know and/or be interested as well. I am sure out of all the fandoms I am in, 50% of the population will have no idea what any of those are (I can bet that 70% of the population have no idea what Darkwing Duck or Tiny Toons are). For very famous productions, they will probably know what those are, but only the broad idea and basic concept (e.g. They will probably know Donald Duck and maybe Scrooge McDuck, but not Ducktales).

And I am sure almost no one is aware there is something called a "furry fandom".

Or, even if they know such a thing exists - or are even interested in it - they won't say or admit it. Actually, I was one of those people, because it's kind of a taboo if you did so (they will either have no idea what you are talking about, or you will be seen as childish and/or weird).

At least, talking from my personal experience.

So that's why, when I first saw a furry artist living in the same place as I was...

Back in my Twitter days, in spring of 2019, I came across them. I forgot what was the first post I saw of them. It was probably a furry artwork that caught my eye, but what led me to stay was the info in the bio.

Among many of their wonderful artworks, I saw photographs. Of places I knew. Of public transport, brands, roads and sceneries...that I knew.

I especially remember them sharing one of their meals eating out, and that was exactly my favourite restaurant chain to dine in during those days.

I remember looking through those photos for an hour, absolutely surprised and astonished. I couldn't believe it, that someone so talented and with the same interest as I did, was living on the same ground as I was. In the same boring city, where I thought I was the only "weird one".

And then I wondered: Would we have possibly met? I probably wouldn't know them in real life, but would we have at least crossed paths? Be in the same place, at the same time? Had they walked on the same road as I did? Had they eaten at the same restaurant as I did? Had we sat on the same seat in a shop, in a park, on a bus or a train?

Having just watched Makoto Shinkai's "Your Name", those thoughts crossed and filled my mind like waves crashing into me.

I never interacted with them other than likes and retweets. They won't know I exist. I just know them as an online fursona and a talented artist, residing somewhere in that crowded city we call home. We will probably never ever meet, never get to know each other. Especially not now.

But if I were to say something to them, I would thank them for existing and sharing their works with the world.

For they have shown me I wasn't alone.

I would say my good omens au I simply adorethe little details I put into the drawing. I referenced Mickey's outfit in Ian's delete scene dream. Ian's outfit is 7x10 just in darker colours. I loved being able to create Ian's ombre eyes by colour picking Cameron's hazel ones. Ian's hair shading. The heart wings & being able to creat the wing texture on the angel wing. AND their signature shows with the timberland & bright read air forces!!! I had such a fun time drawing this 🥰 Also it was my 100,000 post lol

18. What is one thing you’d like to tell people about your art that they might not know?

My gallavich art is the first time I've been colouring my drawings. When I drew a lot in high school I would just do the line art & was too hesitant to colour them.

Honestly, I wasn't quite sure how to answer this! You likely didn't mean anything by it, but "bisexual het" really threw me for a loop 😭 😭 I would refrain from using that phrase in the future!

Anyway, I'm assuming you are looking for something like GSNK ❤️ Since I'm not sure what it is you like about GSNK, or who you are and what you usually read, I'll just recommend a bunch of stuff :p

My usual rotation of recommendations from back when I worked at a bookstore

Blue Flag by KAITO

8 volumes. My favourite series!! I have so many thoughts about it. Simplest way to summarize the theme of the series is in the first sentence, "Your best friend... or your lover. You can only save one." (implied: who would you choose?). Love triangle between the main character, Taichi, a shy female classmate, Futaba, and the main character's popular, childhood friend, Toma.

A lot of western fans complain about the ending, but I thought it was very fitting for the series. I might be biased because it's my favourite, and I can't necessarily justify myself without spoiling it >.<;; CW for homophobia & outing as a major conflict in a later volume.

Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani

4 volumes. Beautiful visual metaphors. Main character comes to terms with being gay & overcoming his internalized-homophobia. CW for attempted suicide & homophobia.

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

1 volume. Focuses on gender identity and presentation!

Skip & Loafer by Misaki Tamamatsu

8 volumes (7 English localizations), ongoing. Has an anime coming out soon! I reread it recently and joined their fan server, but I'm just lurking ^^; I feel like people who enjoy GSNK would also enjoy this series.

Although it isn't explicitly queer unlike the other two recommendations. It's still very charming! I really like the main character and her aunt. Even though her aunt is a supporting character, the chapter that focused on her made me cry a lot. My favourite characters are actually the aunt and the drama club president (a side character... but given his role, it tracks LOL /hj) I remember when I first read it and didn't understand why people would call it WLW representation (I still enjoyed it though!) After my recent reread, I get it now >u< Even if it's not canon, I ship two of the main character's friends together. I'm very curious to other people's interpretations~ My wife doesn't really read the same things I do, so I have to wait to watch the anime with her when it comes out before we can discuss it together.

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

1 volume. Focuses on gender identity and presentation! I picked it up because I liked the cover and I wanted to read more things by Asian American authors. I remember telling my sister it reminded me of Miraculous Ladybug (likely because the main character is a dressmaker)

Some guy gets invited to goukon by a female classmate, but he and his friends find 3 ikemen when they arrive. Turns out his classmate and her friends work at a crossdressing bar! And they just didn't feel like changing back after work!

Story About How My xx Girlfriend Dotes on Me

Also known as The Androgynous Girlfriend is Doting on the President. A cute short series (with short chapters) about the class president (unnamed until the 2nd "vol") and his super handsome, cool girlfriend, Natsuki. Under her stoic exterior, she's a little spoiled and very forward about her love for the president! I thought this series was really cute! I want more chapters of them!!

Cigarette Kiss / Refrain Kiss by Yorumo (part of the Resonant Blue—Girl's Best Time collection)

2 chapters of a cute GL collection by the artist Yorumo! Kobayashi knows she's cute, and she flaunts it with the intention of hooking up with handsome guys! And to her luck, she was just assigned to work with the cool Akira. But it turns out Akira's a girl! The only GL in this recommendation list...

Ikemen Dansou Reiya ni Koishiteru!! by Yunoki

AKA I'm in Love with a Handsome Cosplayer Dressed as a Man!! Another title summary lol... Only 1 chapter has been scanlated so far. Is a remake of another series by the author with a (slightly) different title, but I recommend this version (restarted in 2022). The main characters have a lot of similarities to HoriKashi! Assistant cameraman Kippei is invited to attend a cosplay event for the first time to get practice photographing people. He is immediately captivated by cosplayer Makoto. Makoto is equally interested in Kippei (he has muscle from lifting heavy shooting equipment after all!), but, not wanting to disappoint him, she continues to pretend to be a man in an attempt to get closer to him.

A short series about a muscular girl and a tsundere boy Ruby (the muscular girl) isn't technically an ikemen, but I love their dynamic (maybe I just like tsunderes?) I also have no recollection on how I found this series but it was saved on my mangadex. Some parts of the scanlation read weirdly, and since it's a short series, the writing isn't the best, but I still enjoyed it!!!!!!

Not a manga but will include it anyway: the Taiwanese drama Bromance would also fall under this category! I remember when older HoriKashi fans and I would talk about how well it would suit them as an AU ^^

X-Files, Breaking Bad, Twin Peaks (although I skip through the second season just following the characters I like). Newer things I'm into are Our Flag Means Death and The Righteous Gemstones.

As far as nonfiction shows are concerned I really like How It's Made or The Joy of Painting. Those two I put in the background while I do stuff.

15 Question Tag Game | OC Edition

Thanks for the open tag @just-french-me-up to answer these questions about my OC! I love talking about my beloved Carlotta Suero - she features in various Miraculous Ladybug fics, with focus on her in The world is still sleeping, while I keep on dreaming and these are times that can't be weathered (and we have never been back there since then), and it's been too long since I talked about her <333

Rules: answer the questions below as yourself and/or your OC. (I'd also add that you make your own post).

1. Are they named after anyone?

Yes! Her first name is after Carlotta Brown from Enid Blyton's Twins at St Clare's series. Carlotta Brown is, like my Carlotta, Spanish by birth and a bit on the wild side with a desire for adventure and refusal to bow down to a perceived authority determined to make her conform. Very fitting for my girl.

Suero is a Spanish surname that I chose because it was likely my dad's family's surname a few hundred years or so ago. We don't know at what point we left Spain for Ireland, but Suero is a common surname in the area we were most likely from. Lil shoutout <3

Her middle name, Estrella, is slightly after my friend Stella, who is possibly the coolest person I've ever interacted with in my entire life.

2. When was the last time they cried?

these are times that can't be weathered (and we have never been back there since then) actually addresses this! Carlotta made a (implied to be unhealthy) choice at four years old that crying is pointless after witnessing a beached whale die in New Zealand. Her mother, in an attempt to lessen her heartbreak, tells her that "We shouldn't cry at something so beyond our control!" and she internalises it very heavily until her mid/late teens when she discovers the horrific truth about Gabriel Agreste's favourite pastime, and slowly breaks down in tears thinking about how it's going to fucking wreck her friend Adrien (Gabriel's son) when he finds out.

3. Do they have kids?

No, largely because Carlotta has a lot of me in her, and I don't want kids. I also unintentionally designed her superhero alterego as having the colour scheme of the asexual pride flag, so make of that what you will.

4. Do they use sarcasm?

Yes, but mostly with her younger siblings. She tries not to with Adrien because he's (in my canon) autistic and also very sheltered, so he doesn't always get it and she hates being bitchy to him even by accident because it feels like kicking a small animal. She's more a deadpan snarker than anything else, sarcasm-wise. Marinette is very much the same way, so they'll watch bad movies together and snark their way through it as a bonding exercise.

5. What’s the first thing they notice about people

Voice undertones. Carlotta is visually impaired - she has occipital lobe damage from a skateboarding accident at age 13 and has hemianopsia as a result - so sound has become even more important to her than it already was. And it was important to begin with - as a diver, she spends a lot of time underwater, and sound travels faster and further underwater than light does. Since her accident, she's learned how to pick up on tonal significance very very accurately. She can hazard a scarily accurate guess within five minutes as to where someone is from and what they think of the person introducing her to them.

6. What’s their eye colour?

Dark brown with slight violet undertones, turning fully bright violet with her Whale Miraculous transformation.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Both, in a way; Carlotta adores high-stakes adventure movies with happy endings. A few jumpscares go down a treat, so long as everyone's found peace by the end.

8. Any special talents?

Besides learned skills (scuba diving, playing violin, skateboarding etc.) Carlotta is weirdly good at convincing people she's way more of a goofball than she actually is. All her childish antics do a good job of concealing how genuinely intelligent and sharp-minded she really is.

9. Where were they born?

Maternity ward in Asturias, Spain, in the Spring of 2000.

10. What are their hobbies?

Scuba diving, playing violin, and skateboarding!

11. Do they have any pets?

Her mother has a service dog, a golden labrador named Honey, after she had a workplace accident that left her with multiple severe burns from the waist down; Carlotta herself doesn't really consider Honey to be *hers* though. She did have a magical underwater encounter with a juvenile sperm whale off the Azores who she named Herman, but Herman is, of course, a wild animal, and more a friend than a pet.

12. What sports do they play/have they played?

Carlotta is very into swimming and diving! She's a very powerful long-distance swimmer, and has competed in diving competitions. She prefers outdoorsey activities to actual sports, though - things like skateboarding and tree-climbing.

13. How tall are they?

Five foot eleven inches (same height as me!). I wanted more tall girl characters, so I made one.

14. Favourite subject in school?

Biology. She wants to be a cetologist, and has thus far managed to find a way to turn the topic of every essay back towards oceanic megafauna.

15. Dream job?

Part time cetologist (she wants to be the first scientist to film the birth of a blue whale) and part time superhero. Maybe both at the same time!

Dust Watched: Bakuten!! Movie

Genres: Sports (Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastics), SoL // 1 movie (1h30m) // S01 (x) 

A redemption. We love to see it.

✧  story  ✧

I was, I believe, one of the few people who actually didn’t like the original “Bakuten!!” anime very much. So I was more than ecstatic watching this movie, as basically all of my complaints have been remedied and we got a really nice finale(?) for the show.

The story picks up where the last one left off, a bit before the Inter High Championship. There’s some training and goofing around but red flags are popping up all over the place. Sure enough, when the group was about to give its performance at the Inter High, I checked the time and we were only 20 minutes into the movie. Oof.

A domino falls, and many more follow. The anime’s mood goes into a slow uncomfortable, tense, and depressing downward spiral as nothing seems to be going right. An emotional confrontation where everything just comes to the surface, kickstarts the events that stop our descent into Depression Valley and we get to enjoy the journey of the ascent; the characters finally coming to terms with their situation and feelings, ending us off with a fun final performance. Great pacing all in all.

I complained a lot about the characters of the senpais due to them feeling like one-gag characters who couldn’t get a second to be *actual* fully fleshed out characters because they had to upkeep a quota of saying a joke X times an episode. And while their goofy ahh designs I’m still not a fan of, this movie GREATLY dialed back the gags which helped a lot. This was essential too, with how character-centric this movie was. The greatest character development obviously goes to Watari, who has the seniority and becomes the new captain with the 3 eldest leaving to start studying for their Entrance Exams. He has no idea what to do and feels horrible about it. Futaba is conflicted and scared while Misato is just silently bottling up his emotions, leading to an incredibly stressful environment. Misato actually barely talks for the first half of the movie so I was kinda concerned that now that his talent isn’t in the spotlight, the story won’t know what to do with him but I was wrong- He is great in the secon half.

And of course, the BasedTM Shiro High members make their (pretty important) appearance too, which was my favourite part from the original season to begin with, so I was happy beyond words.

The movie carries the same quality as the original although with a few... interesting artistic liberties taken. I only wish they had fewer cuts during the performances cause I couldn’t keep track of what was going on.

Again, the music is not my style but goes well with the show and I don’t remember what my problem was with Futaba’s VA in S01 but he must’ve worked it out cause all the VA’s did a great job.

While I quite enjoyed this movie, there was something more that I wanted to congratulate it on. In one scene, Futaba mentions what a shame it is that there’s “no future in Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastics” as you can’t go pro or to the Olympics. This prompted me to look up some info on the sport and read an article that gave me a much greater understanding on the goal of this show.

Not only is what Futaba says true, the sport basically only exists in Japan where it has some ties to Martial Arts.

All sports anime have those “oh no, the senpais are going to College/University, and they might not continue doing the sport” arc but in this case, it hurts more because they don’t quite have a choice. And yet the ending of the anime feels hopeful. That even ifnot in this generation, or the next, but someday, kids will be able to look at Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastics as a viable career.

This show is a love letter to the sport. And I’m sure the creators are hoping for a future in reality the like of what they’ve set-up in the movie.
