 i’ve seen some people saying that morticia and gomez would be wary of enid at first because of her pastel colour scheme but, as someone who’s parents really like The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values and therefore watched those a lot when they were younger, i think Morticia and Gomez would accept her right at the start and here’s why:

So, i think people might be thinking about the part in “Addams Family Values” where Morticia says this to Debbie:

but, this doesn’t show that Moriticia and the rest of the Addams’ would shame someone for liking pastels. Sure, it might not be their favourite colours, but this is the one and only time when someone who a member of the family cares for is shamed for liking pastels/colour.

Even when Debbie originally joined the family as a nanny, her pastel colour scheme was never criticized by the Addams’. They never talked about her behind her back. Morticia and Gomez completely accepted Debbie when she and Fester went on a double date with them:

and when Debbie and Fester got married and the entire Addams clan showed up and celebrated with her:

It was only when Debbie forced Fester to stay away from his family and stopped showing him any care or affection and, you know, tried to kill him, that they began to dislike her. (also, I think Morticia might’ve said the pastels thing just to annoy Debbie).

And keep in mind, even when Debbie was about to kill them, the Addams’ didn’t hate her. They still felt compassionate for her and genuinely cared about her, and definitely did not hate her because of her love of pastels and jewelry and shopping. 

Also, there’s another person that proves that Addams’ wouldn’t shame someone for their love of colour: Margaret

True, they did prank her and intentionally spook her a lot, but they never shamed her. It wasn’t because they didn’t like her bright colours, it was more just for fun. But, when she joined the family by marrying Cousin It, no one ever shunned her for her love of pink.

Now, some people might say, what about the campers like Amanda in Addams Family Values? (or maybe no one would say this but i just want to talk about it).

True, the Addams’ didn’t like the summer camp, but remember, even though they didn’t personally like it, Morticia and Gomez still let their kids do the things they wanted to do (or what they believed their kids wanted to do because of what Debbie said but that’s besides the point). And it’s true that they didn’t like Amanda, but that wasn’t because she was blonde and liked pastels, Amanda was just a little bitch. 

Right off the bat, she was rude and condescending to Wednesday. Amanda’s pastels, like Debbie’s, are just to add to the irony/satire of the Addams Family. In the majority of TV and movies, the blonde, pastel-coloured girls are the perfect, generous heroines, and the Addams Family Values takes these tropes and satirizes them. It makes them into the villains, but this does not mean that the Addams’ inherently hate pastels. 

The Addams’ are a satirical inversion of the ideal American nuclear family, and they are constantly proven to be loving and caring people who accept everyone that needs them. They wouldn’t hate someone for their aesthetic, just disprove of them if they were a terrible person.

When Wednesday met Enid, Enid enthusiastically welcomed Wednesday, and then respected Wednesday’s boundaries when she didn’t go in for a hug. Enid proved herself to be a good person from the start. (Also I think Enid can be considered to be a foil to Amanda but that’s a whole other thing that i don’t have time to get into right now - Edit: I wrote another post about this)

And that is why the Addams’ wouldn’t be wary of Enid because of her colour scheme. She’s proven herself to be a genuinely nice and respectful person, and the Addams’ don’t actually hate people for liking bright colours. They’ve always taken a stance of “innocent until proven guilty” and always give people a shot. 

tldr: Morticia and Gomez don’t dislike people for liking pastels, they dislike them for being terrible people, and even then they’re still kind and generous towards these people and are always willing to welcome and accept them. Therefore, they would absolutely love Enid.

The thing that gets me about when people are talking about Addams Family Values is that everyone assumes that Debbie is gone? She's not gone. She's just buried. (This is proven when her hand finally breaks through the soft earth of her grave and grabs Joel.)

Like. It's the lore. An Addams cannot kill another Addams. Wednesday and Pugsley are trying to kill each other because they know they won't succeed, they're just trying to see who can be the most creative at murder. Just because Debbie has married into the Addams family doesn't mean that she isn't a true Addams. (Again: Evidenced by her hand coming out of her grave.)

Debbie is coming from relationships where no one listened to her. "Her reasons were frivolous and materialistic!" Uh, maybe, but they were also a symptom of NOT BEING LISTENED TO BY PEOPLE WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO CARE ABOUT HER. Her parents couldn't even listen to her long enough to get the right fucking doll. And guess what? The Addams listened to her and sympathized.

Less "Morticia and Debbie would have been such good friends if she hadn't died 😔" and more "Debbie learns what a loving family who actually listens to what she wants feels like and has to learn not to expect them to think less of her and her wants. And also she tries to kill everyone because that's how Addams show affection."

Gomez and Morticia are NOT a perfect couple.

I'm being a wee bit picky but they're really not perfect.

I'll be brief but! Canonically (as loose as canon is in TAF):

They have very poor communication skills as a couple in the 1964 tv show, majority of the show is basically them miscommunicating. It works because it's a sitcom and this is glossed over but in real life this would impact their relationship in a significant and probably negative way

Then you have 1991 movie and Gomez Addams utter inability to deal with life problems. He gets instantly depressed and just leaves Morticia to deal with everything herself. In Addams Family Values, he literally decides to DIE because Fester marries Debbie and abandons the family. I mean.... hello. So it seems that this behaviour was completely unaddressed for like what?.... 15 -20 years of their marriage?

And no, these are not minor issues, these are serious issues but you know what wins?

Their utter love and devotion to each other? You would never see them being disrespectful towards each other, no matter what. Yes, they're not perfect, they have issues but I'm 100% sure they'd work them out, because they're just so so madly commited to each other. They never bitch about one another to other people. They'd never blame each other, even if that blame would be justified, because they know blaming each other is never a solution.

And that's what I love about them, they work hard on their marriage, they don't settle and don't take each other for granted, they keep the romance up, they openly adoring each other

They are the embodiment of the fact that love is not a feeling, love it doing.

I just realised that Binghe is Morticia and Shen Yuan is Gomez. Binghe wants it all right? He wants to be his Shizun's housewife/househusband, but he also wants to use the powers of darkness to rule over the Demon World. Then there's Shen Yuan who completely gives off besotted husband vibes just like Gomez who very much enables his wife's mad vibes (and matches the crazy with just a touch more subtlety).

Also, Ning YingYing as Wednesday and Ming Fan as Pugsley. Does this make Shang Qinghua Fester? Or is he the grandma? I do like him as Fester because of the whole Gomez and Fester thing sort of paralleling Airplane x Cucumber, but then again he is BingBing's dad so I like the grandma thing too as Grandma Addams is almost always shown to be Morticia's mother's which falls perfectly in line with this hc.

Now this just leaves me with who Mobei-Jun would be... Debbie? 😏🤣

Wanted to draw some happier Stuff with Drac, Ericka, and Mavis. I like the idea of Ericka NOT being jealous of Martha but rather curious. I like her actually trying to get Drac to talk about her MORE, both to help his grief, keep her memory around and show she's not trying to replace Martha in Mavis' life, she'd basically be like "This person is important to my family and thus is important to me." And...it makes Drac and Mavis happier. It also shows that remarrying doesn't mean forgetting the first love or that they aren't important any more. Which I feel is a big reason HT3 and Ericka's character is hated. (Amatonormativity and dislike of remarriage strikes again!)

I kinda agree with @black-ak9 and @hotelt-resurrection. There's no animosity between Ericka and Martha (aside from Ericka disliking being negarively compared to her by others from the outside.) They'd actually get along swimmingly in a Morticia/Debbie or Morticia/Ophelia kind of way.

On a SADDER note, The 2nd kind of came from a dream in part. But basically, I wanted to Draw Eeicka struggling to comfort Drac and came up with the "Drac's having a bad grief day, kinda beating himself up a bit, and Ericka wants to comfort him but is held back thinking as a human who's family has hurt him so much - not to mention she herself having tried to kill him, she's not sure she has the RIGHT to." I like Ericka comforting Drac as they're both anxious traumatized beans but sometimes... their brains being mean to them is fun too.

Not bad considering these are the most detailed Martha drawings I've done and my problems drawing small. XD

Bonus: On a funnier note, I imagine Ericka fighting with her inner demons in her head at some point like that "You ain't reason, you a little bitch." comic. XD

We all remember Morticia's iconic speech to Debbie in Addams Family Values.

My favorite thing is that bit at the end where she says "but Debbie..... Pastels?"

Because even though Debbie chose those colours and presumably likes pastels, she still acts insulted and hurt by this.

(Inexplicably, a rimshot could be heard. Enid and Thing perk their heads up and look around for the noise, before shrugging and getting back to work.)

(In the pile of tapes, there are labels on each one. “Welcome Home Fester”, “Wake the Dead”, “Welcome to the family Debbie” and “Thanksgiving Play”)

Enid: (Picking out another tape, reading it’s label) “ ‘Lurch’s Lesson’ ?”

(Thing perks up)

Thing: (signing) “...Wednesday can NEVER know I filmed that.”

Enid: “...Now this I gotta see.”

Thing: (signing) “Your funeral.”

(Enid places the tape in the VCR.) 

(On the tape, there is a brief moment of static to show a six year old Wednesday in the living room with Lurch. Neither are aware Thing is filming)

(Younger!Wednesday puts a record on.)

Kid!Wednesday: “This one’s the latest! It's called The Droop!”

(A snazzy/jazzy theme begins playing, as Wednesday starts dancing. Lurch just stands there.)

Kid!Wednesday: “C'mon, now you try it!”

Lurch: (pointing to himself) “Me ?”

Kid!Wednesday: (still dancing) “I think Miss Trivia's a swinger.”

Lurch: “ 'Swinger' ?”

Kid!Wednesday: (still dancing) “You don't want her to think you're square, do ya ?”

Lurch: (shakes his head) “Nooo.”

Kid!Wednesday: (still dancing) “Then if you learn to dance well, she’ll think you're Boss!”

Lurch: “'Boss' ?”

Kid!Wednesday: (still dancing) “Neeeeat. Grooooovy. C'mon, try it!”

(Lurch starts dancing slowly and awkwardly, bent over)

Kid!Wednesday: (still dancing) “Loosen up a little; let yourself go!” 

(Lurch stomps his foot. He quickly gets into the beat, dancing in a similar manner to Wednesday.)

Kid!Wednesday: (still dancing, Lurch waving his arms) “You got it, Lurch!”

(Covering her mouth Enid is covering her mouth, her face beat red.)

Enid: (half laughing, half squeeing) “Oh my god! You know, I’ve heard she was different back then but I never expected-”

(Thing turns around; his body/hand language stagger in an “Ooooh shiiit!” manner. He tugs Enid’s shirt, getting her attention.)

Enid: (turning around and blurting out) “Ohfuckme!”

(Standing before them is Wednesday, with a stack of tapes in her hands; one of them is labeled “Pugsley’s Joust Defeats!”)

(Like Enid, Wednesday’s face is beat red. However, her facial expression is unreadable.)

Thing: (Jabs a thumb at Enid before signing) “She put me up to it!”

I've been thinking about The Addams Family's "rogues gallery". Most of the villains throughout the various adaptations either want to steal the Addams fortune, kick the Addamses out of town for "being too weird" or some combination of the two, and often the family (except maybe Wednesday) will think they're being friendly. The best villains were in Values, with Debbie being delightfully sadistic and the Camp Councellors providing sadly still-relevant social commentary.

The main antagonist of the 90's Addams Family cartoon show was Norman Normanmeyer, an underwear salesmen who hated the Addamses and their macabre sensibilities and whose son was Wednesday and Pugsley's friend. While Debbie in Values could have happily fitted in with the rest of the Addamses were she not infuriated with Fester's indestructibility and failed attempts to get his money, Norman Normanmeyer was so normal it was weird. Not only his name, but because his family in manners and appearance embodied the old sitcom tropes The Addams Family mocked.

Norman's voice was an impression of that of Paul Lynde and with that in mind, you probably could make the argument that Norman was in the closet and attempting to put on a charade as the typical heteronormative family patriarch as that's what he was gaslit into believing was "normal" and thus "better" and that's the image that would sell his wares better. Such a thing would make his hatred of the Addamses tragic; he's either angry that they can unashamedly be themselves or he can't, or his hatred stems from his own internalised homophobia. It would fit in with Gomez and Morticia either being considered a t4t couple or a gay person's straight couple.

What's more, if he talked about what he was forced to hide with the Addamses, they would probably help him out, but his judgement is too clouded by his past for him to do so. I could actually see something like that happening in the Sonnenfeld movies, given they were probably the most successfully satirical Addams adaptations. Like they could give Norman a redemption arc, and the Addamses could do to whoever made Norman feel like that what they did with Tully and Abigail in the first movie. They could do that to all homophobes.

All I’m saying is that Addams Family Values would be so much more interesting if Debbie was trying to get with Gomez like the amount of angst you could have would be fabulous (obviously Gomez is still is love with Morticia) and with the whole new baby it would just be so good and it would change up the plot line from the first movie as it is no longer about tearing Fester away from the family

Okay, just an idea that has been on my mind lately, its kind of not serious but also i mean this is a comedy, cmon. In the show Wednesday has issues with communicating, well, in general but particularly with her parents. If Wenclair happens, before they get together there's gonna be A Period of Angst were I'm sure she's gonna go through the 5 stages of grief about it and will definitely avoid talking to her parents as much as possible. She has to be able to talk with someone at some point, but there's no other competent adults around and honestly even if there were some, they're not Addams so I don't they'd really get it. Sure there's Fester but let's be honest, his love life is a disaster if it even survived the Debby incident (and yes we're mixing the 90s movies with the show, they're great) so who else is there to give advice to a young Addams in love? Well, no other than Cousin Ignatius Itt. He has all the qualifications

1. Addams

2. Married to a very un-Addams woman who is really cheery and loves pink (like a certain werewolf)

3. Probably cooler than Gomez and Morticia, let's be honest

4. Canon to the show (less important but still)
