In honor of the @rw-ship-showdown I wanted to write about Artihunter as someone who jokingly slapped them together pre-downpour and still thinks they are actually very compelling. Just not in the super soft love wins kinda way (Although I get why people like that more) And the only way I know how to do that is talking too much so heres a far too long slug essay-

Obviously the slugcats don't offer a ton of characterization but theres not nothing to work with. Their stories, whether by their roles in it or the overarching themes do provide a backbone to work with. Even gameplay itself can provide a bit. (for some more than others) Hunter, to me, is ultimately a story about selflessness. The goal is to revive Moon, which is very much an act of kindness from both Hunter and NSH. But the weight of that action is much more significant for Hunter- Hunter is deeply sick. They're on the clock, and for all their skill in combat none of that will ultimately help them to survive longer than their body can hold out. Moon is a close friend of NSH but that means little Hunter- Hunter really gets next to nothing out of helping them, and ultimately pays quiet a bit spending their limited time alive fighting to deliver that neuron so that someone else can live.

To spend ones limited days on helping another, in a game that very much stresses the unwavering cruelty of the world and nature- is pretty notable. (And you could even say that Hunter being the Hardmode of Rain World adds another layer to this)

And then we have Artificer. A storyline that very much stands out to people as more… villainous (so to speak) than the other slugcats. Artificer's story covers a lot of things. Trauma, violence, revenge, etc. Revenge is a bit of a selfish desire- That need to see someone hurt as they have hurt you. A punishment that ultimately does not fix whatever harm was done- but feels good to see because you were hurt and now those responsible share that pain.

Artificer's actions are founded in that need for revenge, their pups killed for overstepping boundaries they didn't know existed. Is it not fair for them to be angry at that, to punish the scavengers for their violence with their own? Why should the scavengers ever be forgiven when they and their pups were not? And that's how you get that loop- Harm for harm over and over.

The original action has been lost in a spiral of violence for violence. And here stands Artificer- their very spirit scarred. Not just because they sought revenge, but because they never ceased trying to scratch that itch for violence as an answer. Artificer only has two paths for their story- killing the scavenger king (Someone who, really, has little to do with the original 'crime' of the scavengers, but represents an important individual to them- as did the slugpups to Artificer), locking themselves as karma one for good and spending the rest of their life chasing creatures that no longer even fight back in a warped sense of closure- or to dissolve themselves in the acids of the void sea because they're too far gone to find any real peace.

They can't meaningfully recover from that state, not alone, twisting in on themselves. Even if they halt their actions, they've been using violence as a feeble defense against their own pain- violence that no longer has any real direction or basis. Artificer gets no real closure from killing the scavenger king. All they can do is continue the cycle, or try to scrub it away. No real peace in a prison of their own making. So you have a creature, who even with a strict timer on their life- a body that will crumble to disease, spends its last bit of time on saving another. And another who was so caught up in the pain of loss that were eaten alive by their own anger, poisoned their own soul on such a deep level even self-proclaimed gods have no solution for them. What peace can they offer each other? For Hunter, its only a fleeting moment of happiness- of selfish love, before their own body fails them. A bit of indulgence in something for themself. For Artificer, its a single, comforting thread to ground them again, something tangible to protect and care about again. But thats a thread that will ultimately be snapped under the cruel indifference of the world. Hunters timer will tick down regardless of if it takes another with it. Its a tragedy- its doomed to end badly. Whatever good it offers to either of them to find each other will only provide the fleeting comfort of a band-aid that will be ripped away too early. But all that can be worth indulging in anyway, if only for the moment. It doesn't change the ending, but the ending was never going to be happy. Its can so yuri

Gale is not canonically autistic, nor was he canonically groomed

Really bugs me how so many people on tumblr diagnose Gale with autism (spoiler: they're not doctors because doctors have ethics). Identifying with a character personally is one thing, armchair diagnosing anyone (yes, even a fictional character) is another. It is harmful and unethical, and I'm happy to explain why I think so to anyone who's interested. Just let me know.

EDIT: This whole next part is a SEPARATE thought that has nothing to do with autism. I think autistic people are great and I'm definitely not trying to spread ableism in tags... or anywhere else for that matter. I suppose I should also say that my opinion is not wild or out of left field outside of tumblr. I know Forgotten Realms lore and D&D very well, which seems rather atypical for tumblr.

I've made a lot of edits to this post, hoping that by clarifying the language and articulating my points better rather than just venting, my message comes across more clearly.

What bugs me the most is when people talk about Mystra grooming him as canon. If you think it happened when he was a child, that simply was not possible as Mystra was dead. If you think it happened to him as an adult, that's absurd.

In order to be groomed as an adult, you have to be incapable of consent. Only vulnerable adults can be groomed. I will leave 'vulnerable' broad, but the definition of grooming can be found on Wikipedia. Before you come at me sideways, find the section on grooming adults, read it, and get back to me.

Gale is fully capable of consent, and makes no indication that he cannot consent. He'll consent to a relationship with you as the pc, after all. He was also not vulnerable. He was an archmage. That's the most power you can have as a mortal, and one of the most prestigious positions as well. Gale is very knowledgeable about Mystra, her ways, and the Weave. Gale is a confident man of sound mind with hubris galore. If you think he was groomed, you completely misunderstand his character arc (snarky edit: again I say, hubris). When he meets Mystra he's well into adulthood with a job, a wizard's tower, sexual experience, has been in relationships, etc. He knows who Mystra is, what she is capable of, and what she offers him as a chosen/lover.

He walks into their relationship willingly, and makes no indication whatsoever that he was harassed, manipulated, or coerced into his relationship with her. Furthermore, Mystra could not do anything directly to him on the mortal plane, nor could she take away his power or access to the Weave, without reason or consequence. In fact, if you are at all familiar with Forgotten Realms lore, their relationship does not seem so abnormal. While Mystra isn't known for sleeping with many of her chosen, the idea itself (a mortal and a god/goddess being lovers) is not unheard of. More to the point, the FR pantheon is simply not all-powerful. Not a one of them is, including Mystra. They have many restrictions on what they can and cannot do, especially involving the mortal realms.

It seems some people are completely unable to accept that Gale made terrible choices and has flaws, which is odd because he admits that freely and openly to the pc. There is so much more nuance to his character arc that you throw away when you ignore his flaws, especially his hubris. That is literally the whole point of his arc. It would be a totally different story if it were actually written as if he were groomed. Not to mention making that canon with the story as it is nonsensically divests him of the power and agency he clearly had.

Rewrite the story and HC all you want, but don't put that shit out there like it's actual canon.

there are several in contention for this! (i feel) an overwhelming need (the moors) is a character study from a very upsetting play wherein the protagonist is literally eaten at the end, which is A Bit Not Good. i can't stand to see you bleed (the wolf and the watchman) has a more ambiguous ending but also ends with the distinct possibility that cecil will just straight up Die a few minutes off page and everyone is very sad about it. blizzard of pumice piled six feet high (goncharov) does of course end with mutually assured destruction and a fun little murder-suicide-murder situation that they are both resignedly sad about. there are a couple others that Are Angsty but not so much as these i think

7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

once again, a couple options here! first is leave your body at the door (killjoys), which is a huge epic of legacy and mourning and ends with a bittersweet but also incredibly triumphant chapter about love and family. much as the ending itself is tinged with sadness, considering the amount of Torment we had to get through to wind up there puts this fic on the map for this category! alsoooo i think The (G)Hosts of Satellite's Past (mystery science theater 3000) gets up there, because it's basically just. tooth-rottingly sweet found family nonsense in space

not that i can remember? but it's also entirely possible i've just deleted a few of those comments and subsequently forgotten about them lmao. although it must be said that someone commented on my mst3k fic being VERY NITPICKY about my adherence to the given canon of the show and the liveshows and the livestreams and i'm like. bitch. i have not watched every livestream ever and i do not pay attention to the liveshows. also the show's canon can't agree with itself leave me alone shshjsjhs

i've certainly pondered many in my time but i'm unsure i've actually published any— WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED SPYTOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT SENTENCE. whoopsies. so yes! i do! i've only published one of them and it was a spies are forever/hadestown crossover that got Massively bigger than i ever intended (so much fanart! curt mega saw one of the pieces! hadestown official put one of the pieces on their story! shoutout to all you lovely artists and writers! @szollibisz / @considerablecolors / @teethworm / @owen-not-carvour <333333). there is also an Ancient artifact buried in my google docs that hasn't seen the light of day that's. a voltron: legendary defender/crazyhead crossover? to date it's one of my longest incomplete works and rereading it, despite how old it is, is remarkably pleasant like i was possessed by some sort of Good At Writing gremlin and it's surprisingly good. wonder if i should dredge some of that monstrosity up someday.....

in terms of unpublished works, i have written So many fics with @nico-demons, since we were cringey middle schoolers together, but when looking at what's actually on my ao3, the only collaboration is with @chiropteracupola! while we don't actually share documents writing our flintlock fortress works, we have a massive shared bank of Lore and double check with each other constantly while we're working on our fics. so it's co-written not in practicality, but in literally every other capactiy

14. what’s your all time favourite ship?

o god i never have an answer for this. i cycle through fandoms so quickly it's hard for ships to have a huge staying power? but given that we're entering year two of this ship in earnest and year like. seven. of this ship in a half-pondered capacity, i'm gonna have to give it to joel robinson/mike nelson of mystery science theater! they will never ever leave my head!!!!!

15. what’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

oof i have a Couple of these. first and foremost is contagion (gravity falls), a monster falls/timeskip gravity falls concept that i plotted SO MUCH OF and then got so intimidated by i could only write a couple pages before feeling like whatever i wrote wouldn't match up with what i'd been imagining. much as i'd love to muscle through someday and actually get the concept down, i find it Unlikely that'll ever actually happen. same with a joel/mike mst3k fic concept that i've been kicking around for a couple years surrounding mike's return to earth and trying to find joel again. once again, i got out over my skis and got so scared of executing the concept it's hard for me to imagine i ever get to it shjshjs

16. what are your writing strengths?

i've been told on numerous occasions that i'm really good at mimicking character voice (and possibly author voice, but that's usually more secondary)! i have a very sound and rhythm based memory, so writing dialogue has always been a strong point of mine, as i can basically hear what the character would be saying in their way of saying it. i also consider myself really good at crafting well thought out/intricate plots!

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

FINISHING THINGS. JESUS CHRIST. i'm so bad at mustering any sort of followthrough on projects that are either longer than my usual or i've been working on past a couple of weeks of inspiration. a part of this i'm Sure is the adhd but also i'm miserable at writing anything to completion past a few one shots.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

depends on the context, depends on the language. flintlock fortress in particular has characters of Many Nationalities coming together in a very specific context? thus far i've been rather loath to write extended sections of dialogue in other languages, but i can usually manage small sections, especially french (took it for three years in high school and apparently Something stuck). otherwise i tend to skirt around it or double check with people more familiar with it

i was discussing this with @chiropteracupola the other day actually!! my first fic Ever saved to my google drive is a wild kratts/my little pony crossover! and i would continue to cross mlp over with Many Things! so i would say my little pony was my first written-for fandom, purely based on the fact that it served as such frequent crossover material

20. favourite fic you’ve written?

this is an interesting one! i have a few fics that have a special place in my heart for different reasons. i'm incredibly fond of Try Again, Die Again (detroit: become human/detroit evolution) because i felt insanely clever and actually managed to execute the concept i wanted in a way that was very close to what i originally imagined. it's one of my more action-packed stories and upon rereading it i'm actually still really proud of it. another one i'm extraordinarily fond of is strangely enough Where The Sun Can't Find Me (spies are forever), which is a short little werewolf!curt one shot! just the right amount of Meat to appeal to me and i really like the prose style i went with for it. honorable mention once more goes to leave your body at the door (killjoys) but i've talked about her already so. Moving On. lastly i loooove don't give it a hand, offer it a soul (team fortress 2/haunted by your hand crossover), because it's a Ghost Story and Ghost Romance and A Little Gross and Full Of Sadness. what fun what fun :3

Bro antis love to just look at posts/fanfics that have the most clear, no-nonsense summary/tags, and then puke when the tags/summary was honest, and claim to be "literally tramuatized i am crying i wanna die!!!"

On Wattpad and AO3 i posted a fic.

And in that fic, the character Neptune humps an Asteroid named Guillermo.

(Neptune is insane and due to his loneliness and delusions he drew faces on asteroids and believed they were real, and named one guillermo for some not-needed context)

On the AO3 ver, i used the tags "Neptune/Guillermo", "male masturbation", "humping", and "sex with an asteroid". Those are pretty clear tags, i think. Therefore, people would ignore the fic because these were some clear tags, and ao3 people know how to curate their fandom experience, right?

Apperently, i was wrong since one guy was like "I haven't finished reading this but i don't wanna finish it but I'm still reading it".

Like, if you don't wanna read it, don't!

And later that guy was like

"I read your fic and i wanna die. Not saying it was bad, it was good, but in a bad way,"

I responded with a really long ranty comment about how insensitive they were, how they were practically saying my work is bad, how using suicidal thoughts as a lighthearted thing for daily use is terrible, and how they could just stop reading it.

(I then felt kinda guilty for that response and deleted the whole thread.)

On the wattpad version, since tags mean nothing, i used the summary to explain the whole fic, being as clear as i could possibly be.

i wrote as the summmary "Neptune jacks himself off with an asteroid by humping. Dead dove, don't eat! Grapefruit." And that is pretty fucking clear, right?

Since the AO3 version had people not curate their fandom experience, perhaps the Wattpad version would be better? Knowing their reputation i doubt it, but there's a chance tha-

I tagged and made a very clear summary, and the fanfic wasn't even bad by itself! There was no illegal activity in it at all! It was just a planet deciding to hump an asteroid. If you wouldn't like it, why read it? Huh?

(Also, i saw that guy comment something "It's worse when you yourself drew worse... As an artist, it's scary..." And i feel kinda bad for them. Why would people be ashamed of their own art? Why would people shame others but indulge in the same stuff? Why must things be a GUILTY-pleasure? Why could you not just be happy for yourself and your art?)

I am not holding these people hostage, i am not chaining them, and shoving my fanfiction in their face shouting "Read it!" I am just a guy who writes fetish smut.

Would it not be more fun to just consider the context we have been given with scenes between young Alicent and Rhaenyra, step out of the heteronormative/"I need to simplify everything and find the antagonist (preferably female, idk why though)" bubble and acknowledge that Alicent is not "just so fucking bitter and for what? move on, girl" solely out of spite or BecAusE shE hAs noThiNg GoInG oN but because she's a complex and (so far) possibly the most well-written character on the show? There are so many layers to her! Yes, she is a ghost of her former self but still with so much substance, she makes this conflict all the more interesting.

It's like people who say these things re so blinded by the set-up rivalry and cheering their chosen side on, and being in the right (when no monarch or noble can be blameless the moment they partake in war and overall, it's not Tumblr, it's Westeros????) that they completely miss out on how misogynistic they come off as in this pursuit of... explaining why Alicent is BIG EVOL.

Both are worth caring about, why can't they grasp that? Ignore the fact that it's a show for a second, assume it's an actual historical conflict with one leading woman on each side. We have the context and yes they both do terrible things but they have been manipulated into their positions by various circumstances and they are each other's equals on that level. They are victims. Rhaenyra is not as happy/complete as it may seem right now, either (just my opinion). She just has better support, for now. Both are dealing with an oppressive system and their own traumas in their own respective ways. You are completely correct that that is doing Rhaenyra a disservice. She's not stronger than Alicent, she just had to face different circumstances. Both are extremely strong but also extremely damaged.

Yesterday I posted about how I am yet to see Team Green being as virulent as Team Black stans can get (let's be real, especially towards Alicent) but took it down because someone called me 'willfully blind', suggesting that Team Green stans act in similar manner. I thought, fair, I haven't seen anything of that nature yet but that doesn't mean it's not true. Better not add to the already miserable bout of dramas.

But I scroll the Alicent, Rhaenicent, other such tags and amongst all the pretty gifsets and interesting takes there is just so much fucking vitriol. Now let me preface this by saying, I have nothing against running jokes or takes about characters being wrong and/or deserving to be punished for something but... it's not even just takes at this point, people prance around saying that this specific woman deserves to be "put down" and should have been "beheaded several times" and Idk it just doesn't really say "jokes" or "lighthearted fandom banter" to me. Like are y'all good? I can't imagine it being fun to hate one specific character so much given the amount of interesting traits and nuances they harbour.

I haven't been in the GOT fandom before but I have been told that similar nonsensical dramas would spark up over there frequently, maybe I'm just not used to it.

*Also hot take but I think if people dared to actually acknowledge the intensity of the bond between Rhaenyra and Alicent when they were younger + the loneliness and abuse Alicent has endured, they would have an easier time understanding why she is a "bitter ghost".

Well, this isn't hard - obviously my answer is going to be Flash Thompson. I don't know why it's apparently so difficult - he's not really that complicated of a character. Not compared to a lot of Marvel mainstays. But so many people either make him JUST a bully or JUST a hoo-rah America military man. And by that I mean both fans and canon writers. But Flash contains so many multitudes! He's worked in schools, he's a mentor, he's a coach, he's charisma incarnate, he has so many ways he can help people. And I love him.

It's something I, myself, am still trying to work on, so it's not like I'm excluded from my own frustration. I don't understand why so many people in the Venom fandom make fics where the host (Eddie, because nobody writes about anyone else) is the one going through the gestational cycle when there is a new spawn rather than the symbiote. It is literally so much funnier and also makes so much more sense to make the symbiote the pregnant one. "but kita it's can-" SHUT UP THE SYMBIOTE WAS THE PREGNANT ONE (it's called "choose violence" asks for a reason 💖)

x readers! I never really liked reading or writing x readers ever until recently. I really like second person as a device and I just refuse to acknowledge things that use like blanks or the Y/N device lol. Realizing this totally changed the way I like to write. I think second person is excellent for storytelling. Leaving the reader insert extremely vague and writing from the perspective of the character is SO fun.

This completely nonsensical fallout raider gangbang. I rarely enjoy reading or writing OC x OC works, but I really unlocked something in my brain with this fic. I am so in love with the characters, they still live in my head. I wanted it to be SILLY DUMB and it was just so much fun to write. This is the most "me" I think of anything I've ever written, and I fully just went balls to the wall ridiculously porny and it was so much fun.

dude ANYTHING by my buddy @ventiswampwater (here's her ao3) every single one of her fics make me INSANE. We have such similar ideas of characterization for this DUMB movie that for some reason we're obsessed with. OH! This Yautja harem x OC work I found, literally I've never had the patience for LONG LONG fics before but I honestly wish there was MORE of this. I loved!! the characters and everyone involved, the story was so smutty and good. You dont need to know shit about predator lore this fic may as well be its own story. This fanfic is better than any smutty xenophilia/monsterfuckery romance book that i've ever read.

@brimbrimbrimbrim 's Vigilante x reader fic was so much fun, characterized SO well. It was silly fun and I loved it hahaha like I love this author but this fic really stuck out to me hahaha.

I'd like to just bite the bullet and submit to publications as well as random magazine challenges or whatever else. I often debate whether I should or shouldnt for so long that I then miss the deadline for the actual challenge lmao! I submitted to a few horror magazines as well as some poems to indie publications asking for submissions this year but I'd like to just submit as much as I possibly can because fuck it y'know. This year, I got ONE poem selected to be in a book and then it was actually removed from the eventual publication coming out in 2023 so like... lmao?

I've actually been editing my short story horror anthology off and on, cleaning it up and formatting it and all the boring shit. I'm looking to trad pub or at least submit certain stories to challenges. I'm also hoping to saddle up and adapt my raider gangbang fanfic into a more developed story that I'll eventually KDP publish. I've got free time at work and was able to collect my thoughts on everything up to Episode 4 (still haven't read the Tea Party or ????? because work), so let's break it down:

Beato and Beatrice

Much in the same way that there's Maria and MARIA, Ange and ANGE Beatrice and Eva and EVA Beatrice, I'm gonna firmly put down that I think Beatrice, the Golden Witch and Beato are two different entities. This isn't super bombastic since that's literally shown towards the end of Episode 4, where Beato (schoolgirl outfit) tags in Beatrice (witch outfit) because she's depressed that Battler can't remember... something.

This is also obviously the crux of how Beatrice can say "I didn't exist six years ago and the problem isn't between Battler and Beatrice"

Beatrice's Goal (+ What's Up With Virgilia)

At this point, I also think that- much like no matter who survives becoming a sacrifice for the epitaph, everyone ultimately dies- whether Beatrice wins or loses against Battler, she will "die". I think that if she were to win, and be acknowledged as a witch, she would shed "Beato" and truly become Beatrice, the Golden Witch, and I think that if she loses, she would shed "Beatrice" and go back(?) to being Beato. And, the way that she talks at the end of Episode 4 and the above flashes that happen before the proper end of the episode (especially the "please, I don't c... what conclusio... ust kill me and... my story to an e"), it seems like she's given up on becoming a witch. But, because of her pride (or something) she can't just surrender, so she's going to make Battler earn it.

By extension, as her teacher, I think Virgilia wants what's best for Beato. I think she thinks the best thing would be for her to not become a witch, but she did what she did at the end of Episode 3 because it was like "well, shit, we're already here, and even if this isn't the optimal outcome, it's an outcome versus the alternative of there not being one". Which also explains why she's such a boob in every other situation.

Battler's Sin and Battler's Mom

My gut reaction to when Beatrice started asking Battler if Asumu was his mom was that it was going to be revealed, or suggested, that Beatrice is his mom. Upon closer examination, I don't think that tracks in any way whatsoever, but I do think who Battler's real mom is is significant... somehow.

Kyrie told Leviathan that she and Asumu were pregnant at the same time, but because Asumu was pregnant first, she got married to Rudolf. She also explained that Asumu had Battler, and that Kyrie's son was stillborn. Is it possible there was some weird switcheroo at the hospital due to Important Family Shenanigans. Like, it'd be weird, but not impossible, if Asumu and Kyrie gave birth on the same day, but maybe Asumu was actually the one to give birth to the stillborn son, but because she was married to Rudolf, he/the Ushiromiya family bribed the doctors to switch the babies to preserve his honor or some nonsense like that.

EDIT: while looking back through the tag for my "how to filter these posts" post, I realized I forgot Kyrie explained, explicitly, that she and Asamu gave birth on the same day, so...

The simultaneously less-and-more far-out theory is that there's a third woman. Which is why I initially thought Beato, but that don't make sense: Beatrice, the mistress/homonculus died in 1968, judging from Rosa's childhood memory and the captain saying deliveries to Kuwadorian stopped that year. There was no physical manifestation to be his mom, and even if there was; why would Rudolf be the father, and not Kinzo?

Wait Hold Up I Just Thought Of Something

Could Beato be Battler's Young Aunt? If Kinzo had a child with the mistress/homonculus before her death, she would be roughly the same age as Battler... maybe Battler ran into her at Rokkenjima six years ago and violently rejected her existence as his aunt/family? And the fact that this young girl was kept a secret by Kinzo in emotionally abusive conditions, and the fact that her first meeting with any of her relatives went so poorly set her down the current path, and why she would only "reveal herself"/get along with Maria, who had similarly abusive circumstances?

I think this is gonna be my pocket theory going forward

Never feel bad about bugging me with questions. I love opening Tumblr and seeing I have messages, especially when they're from people I know. It's very exciting to talk to people (esp my friends) about the nonsense in my brain and I would love to do it more 😂 ask all the questions you want, you might stir something up that I feel the need to put down somewhere.

ANYWAY. PHM. It's centered around the young (13-ish) Akari who comes to Jubilife Village (possible a little subset-like area of Jubilife City, like. Several miles out of the city. Not easily walked to. Middle of nowhere pokemon style.) needing a place to stay. Mayor Kamado leads her to a decrepit, rundown farm that she is allowed to stay on and live on with the caveat that she is required to improve upon it. If she hasn't improved upon it in a year, she gets the boot. (She is a child who doesn't understand contracts, property law, etc, and he is desperately clinging to a greatness the village hasn't seen in a century). Akari agrees to this and lives out her life harvest moon-like. I've focused on a more pokemon-esque version of it where she gets the Hisuian starters in various ways and they help her on the farm. She's also got a ponyta named Dolly who is ✨spicy✨

Elesa moves in during Akari's first year and the become friendly. She's absolutely confused by this grubby little dirt urchin who wanders up to her clothing store (formerly run by Anthe, who sold it to Elesa so she could retire) and just offers her a massive bag of coin in exchange for new clothes. Elesa lays claim to her as a cute niece and makes her SO MUCH farmer chic clothing. (Side note- Cyllene doubles as law enforcement (of a sort, there's really no crime in Jubilife Village because... there's no one really living in Jubilife Village!) as well as Kamado's aid with the town. Elesa has a crush on Cyllene, which is required, but Cyllene is highly stressed and quite expressionless, and Elesa is often too nervous to really do much more than offer to make her custom clothes as a way of flirting, which Cyllene honestly takes as her just being nice... this is my own ridiculous little ship that I love.) Akari thinks Elesa is funny and enjoys spending time with her, though she does do a lot of teasing her about her crush.

Laventon and Rei double as livestock owners and the local vet (and vet tech). Rei is a couple years older than Akari and deeply protective of this Tiny Baby in the universal way of "oh my god this person is just barely younger than me, they're a baby I must protect". We all have those moments. I know it. You know it. Rei is always trying to give Akari free stuff that she insists on paying for. Laventon, Rei's father (adopted or otherwise, idk), also gives her free stuff but more subtly. Taking care of the animals. Giving her advice on the best food. Telling her they "just" got a certain food in and asking her to use it and give him her opinion.

There's ALSO a train that runs nearby. It used to run through the town, and actually passes by Akari's farm, but "improvements" and speed had it passing by instead. Think of how Route 66 used to be the main thoroughfare across the country until bypasses were put in- that's essentially the "station" in Jubilife. Akari always waves at the train (to which she gets a responding horn, ALWAYS to her delight) and is somewhat beset upon by Ingo and Emmet one day, who came to visit Elesa and were curious about the girl on the farm. Again, they immediately take her under their wing, and they delight in both picking on her and making her take care of herself. Akari is terrible at taking care of herself and frequently faints due to overexertion (Elesa, Passelle(?), and Cyllene hate this but are unable to convince her to take breaks, drink water, and eat better because Akari is afraid she'll be thrown out if Kamado thinks she isn't working hard enough and won't listen to them tell her thats not how it works. 13 year olds!!!) and scares the twins one day as they find her passed out in the fields after her pokemon sought their attention while the train passed by. They manage to convince enough people that adding Jubilife Village to their stop (or a different stop) would be beneficial for everyone and end up somewhat taking over that route. It means they see Elesa every day (win! Beties reunited!), get to ensure Akari is taking care of herself, and get to give their pokemon (especially the large ones) plenty of room to roam. The subway bosses AND the former gym leader being in one spot also makes the village a draw for battlers.

Akari hates her house and doesn't put any work into it. It's her own little rebellion against Kamado. She'll improve the farmland and the stable and the barn and the cool but the house? FUCK that house. (Everyone hates that she literally STILL SLEEPS IN THAT FALLING APART FUCKING HOUSE.)

It's another of my silly self indulgences that I need to revisit 😂 especially since the comic of Ingo and Emmet being dared to adopt Akari by Akari has reached 100 notes and I said I'd redraw it if that happened fksbsjs

HA!! NOW THAT TO ISOLATE IS ACTUALLY DONE I CAN MEME ON THE FINALE! i actually have TONS of silly ideas for post-fic funtimes because it has a happy ending and everything and i just really love the continuity it sets up. there's a strong chance i'll end up writing some of them out and putting them in their own fic that i group into a series with to isolate itself. i'll bullet some of my favorites below the cut for spoiler-proofing.

but those are less alternate endings and more extensions/deleted scenes/post-credits-scenes. most actual alternate ending possibilities for to isolate are pretty dark, but one of my favorite meme alternate ending ideas is one where Warriors keeps a journal in chapter one and for some reason?? Dink just Doesn't Notice so Wars wakes up on Day Four and goes "hey guys this is really weird" and everyone's like "YEAH that is pretty funky" and they all just talk about it. it would be funny to say that the whole plot just never happens, but that's not necessarily the case—dink still has his scheme, and i'm not fully sure what all the ramifications of them finding out this early on would be. he might just be like OH FRICK I FORGOT ABOUT THE BOOK and then wipes their memories and burns the journal. maybe that IS canon and sky just never knew~ oooooooooooooooh~ (it's not dw—if it were, wars woulda brought it up in ch. 10)

four has been looking for the master sword for a while, Splitting for a time to cover more ground, and he hasn't found it anywhere. he's starting to plan out a long-term solution but also he's still looking. dot keeps telling him to stop, but he really wants to make extra super bonus sure he didn't just miss it by accident. as he's walking in the mountains, the sword drops out of the sky, bonks him on the head (with the hilt, but that's not much better than the blade cuz it's still Hot As Heck from ch. 7) and then tumbles down a cliff into the woods. he's simultaneously relieved and very annoyed, but he climbs down after it anyway to find it stabbed, perfectly vertically, into a pristine clearing, rays of golden sunlight spilling over it (wait where is that even coming from it's like midnight and also overcast) because the Master Sword is actually a Massive Diva and the laws of nature will bend to facilitate this

legend getting a loftwing!! he is a knight of skyloft, after all. i like the idea of his loftwing being really grumpy and kind of traumatized because it lost its rider, and no one's been able to even get close to it without getting bitten at, which is why it's up for grabs for someone of legend's age, but they understand each other really well and bond a lot, even if they can't "feel" each other like sky and his loftwing can, since they missed the critical period for that.

oh yeah it's canon that the wedding rings that sky and sun wear are gifts from legend—sky's got the green ring because a) green symbolizes courage in zelda and b) it's a balance of offensive and defensive boosts and mr. i-lost-the-use-of-my-sword-hand could use the help in both departments. zelda has the life ring L-2 which is pretty and heart-shaped but also regenerates health over time because sky and legend care about her lots and want her to stay safe <3

okay poltea and i high-key sidelined groose because neither of us can take him seriously because he's too much of a meme (even though i've played sksw twice now and agree wholeheartedly that endgame groose is a massive lad) and also like... he really wasn't relevant to the fic and there was honestly no point in fleshing him out or anything. however, this fun vignette would play with the HEY WHO'S THIS LEGEND GUY AND HOW'D HE STEAL MY BESTIE SO FAST?! element of the dynamic where sky's in a cheesy YA love triangle but of friendship sfdkgjhsldfgkjsdf. groose and legend would both slip slightly into their respective Jerk Modes to try and sus the other out, but then they'd bond and become bros and sky would bemoan the mistake he made in unleashing those two upon the world. they also fight over which of them will be sky's kid's favorite uncle <3 also legend's aroace in this fic because i said so so he just vibes with the lads. it's probably for the bet if he doesn't set up a bloodline in his own past anyway fdjhgfkgfjfd

OKAY SO REMEMBER THE LINE ABOUT PARADOXES AND CRAP and how sun kind of had a sense for them and would stop legend from causing any so he could safely inhabit the past? in this idea, like... the weirdest stuff sets off the Paradox Tinglies and Legend will be about to take a sip of juice and then sun bursts into the room and smacks it out of his hand and goes NO! and legend's just like O_O. he's honestly not sure if she's just screwing with him or not but he's too grateful to be here to question it

SKY AND SUN'S BABY AND LEGEND BEING A CHAOTIC UNCLE. i've never actively sought out fics in the vein of "we've just handed your favorite character an infant, what will they do now?" and i don't spend nearly enough time around children that small to be able to write any pre-school age particularly well, but just because it's these dorks specifically, i'm thinking about it <3

OKAY SO SKY AND LEGEND ARE THE FIRST IN THE TIMELINE NOW, RIGHT? get this—they make time capsules. they write letters to all the dudes, just for kicks, and they're kinda curious to see if any of them will actually reach their intended recipients, even if they'll probably never actually know until their spirits all meet up in the afterlife. not sure what they'll do about the timeline split and also convergence apparently though sfgljhsdgksdfh

hyrule just obliterating the ganon cult. like, we all know it happens, it's fully canon, but that doesn't mean i don't want to see it happen anyway. this is more likely to be art than fic, but i still wanna see it anyway because hyrule should be allowed to go feral more often i think

remember that bit where legend tells wars to not do too good of a job fixing space and time so they can all hang out again? yeah like five to ten years in, the portals all crack open again and the lads get to have like tea and biscuits and a nice chat or whatever. it would be purely crack and For The Memes because the boys all (largely) going back to their respective eras at the end was a Choice Made For Reasons, but also post-LU reunions are fun and this is a post-LU that i can really play around in because i actually know what it looks like and how we got there

My name is Meg. I’ve been on tumblr since 2011/2012. I started off as a gl*e blog and then kind of just segued into general fandom nonsense. Then around 2015-ish, I transferred to a big university where Twitter was the big thing. Pair that with an internship, graduating, and starting a job that has all but broken me in every way possible, my tumblr habits pretty much became nonexistent. It wasn’t out of malice or spite or anything weird, it just kind of happened. With that being said, Twitter really sucks now and I’m mentally at a place where I think in terms of reblogs instead of retweets. So without further blubbering, I’m here to (re) introduce myself:

-i am currently in a graduate program to get my masters in library/information science

-I read. Too much.

-I have adhd, fall somewhere on the autism spectrum, and have crippling anxiety fueled depression

-I am queer

-I love things probably too much and too loudly but that was always my favorite thing about tumblr, someone was always weirder and louder than you so it was okay

-I really enjoy the idea of scrapbooking/journaling/collaging but I have no space to do it physically so I’m going to revisit tumblr to see if this can scratch that itch

-I’m hoping this will be a space for my pop culture interests as well as academic/general life things as well

-I know I’m entirely too old and out of touch as to how tumblr runs nowadays compared to how it did back when I couldn’t go 5 minutes without checking my phone but I’m hoping to find someway to quiet the incessant ticker tape 24 hour newsfeed happening in my head

-I’m happy to fulfill the elderly lady in the rocking chair position who people go to for stories about the olden days with pride
