[plain text: block tumblr user @ / isopodcloset ]
TL;DR: isopodcloset as someone who not nonverbal nonspeaking, speak over nonverbal autistics about things that impact nonverbal semiverbal people. when be point out cite poorly done survey as source & reason why survey poorly done, hide all people disagree from reblog & refuse acknowledge—effectively silence nonverbal people & continue spread misinformation with poorly done survey.
isopodcloset not seem want conversation or willing listen or think do wrong.
please do not direct engage w isopodcloset, do not harrass. at best, gentle correct people who reblog post who seem misled. but, best way help nonverbal people & people impacted here is reblog this spread this & block isopodcloset.
detailed what happened (under cut w source):
1. isopodcloset made this misinfo post “types of autistic speech” (linked; remember link version is edited, can see original version in reblog chain link below).
2. two nonverbal autistic people (gwydion & me) point out misinformation (both our thing can be see here linked)
3. isopodcloset respond, said add disclaimer to some but also continue speak over & not correct one misinformation by cite survey that poorly done (so cannot trust conclusion)
4. gwydion & me correct separately about how that survey poorly done. gwydion response link here. mine link here, which bullet point/numbered point out all reason why that survey should not be give platform—please read if can.
5. isopodcloset not direct respond to us since, but have hid all reblog of people who spoke against. right now, notes only full of people who agree & people who mislead by isopodcloset misinfo. poorly done survey link still up and can be reblog.
this create more labor for nonverbal people who have to correct more people misinfo, possibly mean even harassment in future.
reminder disabled people (include nonverbal people) allow be angry. some nonverbal and/or higher support needs autistic people cannot control cannot mask emotion & anger & tone. nonverbal people especially not have be all polite & cute & soft when people who not nonverbal speak over us, spread misinfo that impact us, and silence us on purpose when we point out wrong.
in case isopodcloset delete, saved my chain through wayback machine (not sure gwydion okay w me save his so did not).

intermittent mutism vs situational. chronic catatonia
main differences i could find (from 1 website and 1 unit of energy. also: do not have intermittent m; these are quotes from site) were:
sm situations are more consistent and related to social anxiety; (and although the dsm criteria excludes autism, i’d like to point out that many people with sm are autistic)
intermittent mutism can involve social anxiety, but also a range of other factors which, for many with it, is related to chronic catatonia, autism and adhd.
“We’ve seized on the term ‘selective mutism’ (a separate diagnosis defined in the DSM to explicitly exclude autistic people), but most of us don’t report the ‘selective’ pattern of mutism, where someone consistently speaks in one setting but not another, classically a child who speaks at home but not at school.
Instead, we go mute intermittently, when we’re experiencing sensory overload, are drained from performing at work or at an event, have anxiety over an interpersonal interaction, or have been alone for long enough to get out of the habit of speaking.
This intermittent mutism is, for me and many other people, part of a larger cluster of experiences: Chronic catatonia. Most symptoms of catatonia involve freezing up or slowing down, but an inability to inhibit repetitive actions or physical agitation can also show up.”
long post under cut about what intermittent mutism and chronic catatonia can look like (from experience of just one person)⚠️
🌹“there are many different gradations and expressions of mutism, beyond the obvious one where you can’t speak at all. For me, levels of mutism include:
Being able to speak normally, except to bring up one topic that I want to but am afraid to.
Being able to speak but not say ‘no’ or anything to that effect.
Not being able to speak normally at all, but appearing normal-ish because I (not necessarily voluntarily) reply with empty niceties or whatever my brain assumes the other person wants to hear.
Being very limited in my speech, slow and halting and not able to say what I mean directly, but able to utilize what I can say and people’s reactions to it to eventually get a situation resolved.
Being unable to speak at all, but able to type or write.
Being unable to speak, and having my hand freeze up when I try to write, or my legs refuse to move when I want to stand and get something to use for communication.
🌹“But this mutism is itself part of a broader spectrum of catatonic experiences, including:
Being stuck in a weird pose, completely unable to move, yet displaying “waxy flexibility”––like a posable doll, if someone were to move my position, I would hold it.
All of the above, but with only parts of my body impacted, e.g. I can move my left arm but not my right.
Lying in bed unable to get up for hours after waking every day, unless I have a strict routine of getting up at a prompting event (like an alarm clock, or a certain amount of time before a bus comes that I really need to catch).
Sitting in the car for half an hour after parking. Sitting on the toilet seat for over an hour after showering.
Staring off into space while sitting/lying somewhere much of the time.
Automatically following instructions or assumed expectations from other people.
Being able to walk again but only if I’m walking with someone.
Moving jerkily and/or slowly, sometimes with bad balance.
Various forms of mental shutdown in stressful situations, such as large sensory-overloading, unstructured social gatherings.
Temporary physiological changes including extreme susceptibility to cold, reduced strength and endurance, and a difference in heart rate.
again, would like to point out that many people with sm are also autistic. this is not a ‘stop using sm as a term’ post. this is just because i’ve known a few autistic people irl who experienced things like this and didn’t know what to call it, so they ended up using ridiculously inaccurate and harmful phrases like ‘going nonverbal’ when they were still speaking some of time🌹🌹

The Florida Republican legislator who praised Javier Milei and then praised Argentina with the straight up nazi thinking of "one race, one culture, one religion", which is not only Nazi propaganda but a complete and absolute lie, really puts into perspective the whole "ARGENTINA IS WHITE XDXDXDXDDX" memes anglos have been spreading uncritically like it's just a funny joke. It's not an insult, it's an ASPIRATION for them. They WANT to be the Nazi Argentina which only exists in their heads and memes.
They had so much fun calling us nazis and there you have it, straight up white supremacists in their politics praising and supporting our far right, which has also been funded by US "think-tanks" such as the Atlas Network. THE CALL IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE, YANQUI. YOUR COUNTRY IS THE ONE FULL OF NAZIS, YOU HAVE THEM IN YOUR GOVERMENT, IN YOUR POLICE, IN YOUR MILITARY.

Tipsy Davey is a lovely Davey, easy to blush and fluster – it doesn’t take much more than a smile to send him giggling into his glass, and it drives Jack’s own ego to dangerous heights. He could spend whole nights murmuring compliments in Davey’s ear, tracing his knuckle against Davey’s thigh, listening to him giggle against Jack’s own temple, feebly nudging him away (and letting him come right back) and mumbling "Jackie, stop…" without meaning a word of it.
And then there’s Drunk Davey, when his flush settles high on his cheeks and his bashfulness settles with it. He loses that nervousness he keeps underneath his skin that’s always pulling him back just a little, telling him not to come on too strong. He touches freely, whispers the pads of his fingertips over Jack’s wrists enough to drive him insane, sweeps over the bridge of Jack’s freckled nose and murmurs, “Glory be to God for dappled things…”. The bitter little middle-schooler that still lives in Jack’s mind has always thought that poetry was something just too dorky to be attractive, but that bitter little middle-schooler sure shuts the hell up when Davey whispers pretty things in Jack’s ear on a dark corner of the dance floor. Jack’s not complaining at all.
And then there’s Jack’s favourite – Truly Shitfaced Davey. He’s a rare gift, reserved only for New Years, birthdays and Halloween parties, if his costume is slutty enough. Jack can recount every single Truly Shitfaced Davey encounter he’s ever had, and while they’re nowhere near as suave as Drunk Davey, they are by all means his favourites.
“Face,” Davey mumbles, poking Jack’s cheek and marvelling at the squish of it. Jack has to bite his lip not to laugh.
“Yeah, babe?” He asks sweetly, because he is a wonderful boyfriend, thank you very much.
“Your face… It – you…” Davey’s face pinches as he tries to find his words underneath the drunk haze that’s blanketing his brain. He promptly gives up and groans, waving an arm dismissively as he burrows into Jack’s side. “S’good.”
Jack grins, pressing a kiss to the curls tickling his face. He gives up on trying to stifle his smile – Davey’s too drunk to care, and far too drunk to notice the way he’s staring inquisitvely at Jack’s lips the way he usually stares at a good book.
“Thanks, Davey-mine. Your face is good, too.”
Davey stares at him for a moment, mouth squared and silent for a little too long, until he makes a strangled little squeak and ducks his face into Jack’s neck.
“Shuddup!” He orders as Jack laughs, but he can’t help it. As much as he loves Davey when he’s reciting sonnets from memory, he especially loves him speechless, if only for the novelty of it.

don't take this writing advice as be all end all because i'm a stranger on the internet and if you trust the things i say after seeing my posts then you are beyond the reach of even the lord but i have a fascination with character voice and take a lot of care to try to get it right. one thing i find helps a lot is that people tend to orbit around certain words and don't usually deviate, unless for a specific reason.
like, for fic, it's worth going to a dialogue or quotes page and punching in a word that's used a lot, like 'think'. do they say 'think' a lot, or is it i reckon, i figure, i guess, etc. everybody has a little idiosyncrasy to their speech, and ones shared between people communicate a lot, if you do it deliberately
