Despite losing their memories, I always imagined Hero had some instinctual feelings regarding the world. Namely, that somehow something simple like a sunrise was a rare treasure that they never got to experience before

Imagine PMD2 Riolu Partner if Hero never came back after restoring Temporal Tower: If Arceus hadn't intervened and the Dark Future had disappeared.

Riolu would've returned to the guild, continued with their apprenticeship and that night on the beach, they try to accept that the dark future and hero are really gone. The dark... future?

If Hero and everyone else was from the future, then, they'll be born into this world eventually, right? It's not clear how far in the future the dark future was, but Riolu has to believe that it'll be within their lifetime.

So, Partner sets out, searching the globe for the last of the humans, and their family. Eventually, they stumble across a Duskull, young and innocent, but Riolu would recognise that aura anywhere, they couldn't forget it if they tried. Riolu shrinks away at first but slowly realises, this time, Dusknoir had the chance to be something completely different. So, after a short conversation, Riolu wishes Duskull well and continues on their journey.

Years later, Partner finds a young Treecko, living happily in the woods, surrounded by siblings and loving parents. This Treecko looks totally different from Grovyle, he doesn't have the scars, or that same hard gaze. No, this Treecko is laughing, and Partner tears up, knowing this is what always should have been. If only this Treecko knew how much the sunrise meant to him.

Partner continues, from town to town, across the continent Partner searches and... nothing. No hide nor hair of a human. So, Partner searches the globe again, and still nothing. Everyone says the same thing, humans are a myth, they've never lived in this world.

Heartbroken, Partner returns to Treasure Town, hoping to find some semblance of joy in what was once their dream. Time passes and Marill comes by the guild, saying they found someone lost, wandering through the woods. It's a Phantump. They seem confused, scared, unable to remember anything except a name.

Riolu knows it before they hear the name. This. This is Hero. Someway, somehow, Hero is here, right now. Partner hugs the Phantump and the ghost type flinches away, cautiously returning the hug after a moment.

Partner's heart aches and they offer to let Phantump stay with them at the guild and get this all figured out. Phantump agrees and Partner gets to relive their relationship all over again. Maybe this time they can be the one to give Hero strength.

hey so do you ever think about the human and grovyle in the future of darkness, before they made their resolution to die for the world. do you ever think about how grovyle never got to fully process the loss of his cherished partner, he just kept hanging on and telling himself it would be over soon, but then he was forced to reckon with the harm he'd caused to them?

YEAH. i am so messed up over their relationship specifically like!!! he never really got closure!!! it's so awkward bc hero has their own new life now and all they can do is take grovyle's word for it essentially that the two of them used to be best friends. it has to hurt! so! bad! for! him! but he never gets that happiness back. i mean the two of them were already determined to die and therefore their relationship would come to an end according to plan either way. but now the reality instead that maybe they can live but they still don't ever get to repair the relationship that was taken away from them bc grovyle had to go back to the future to take dusknoir with him. now maybe he feels guilty that this whole plan did so much to them and robbed them of their identity even though it like wasn't his fault and they seem to be coping with it well idk . again again again ahhhhh i need to play this postgame i need more of the lore!!!

round. friend-shaped. iconic, dare i say. in the world's weirdest polycule. also, could he be anymore obvious as to his mission being a trap? "i was simply testing your strength, my fellow explorer" YOU'RE A TERRIBLE LIAR. super pmd kept him as a bastard man and i wholly appreciate it.

been thinkin about dusknoir and his less-than-optimal history with the player

i do feel like dusknoir should've been given more screen time pre-betrayal as there was never really any backstory as to him being all-knowing and wise. that and the fact that he just never came off as being inherently trustworthy during my initial playthrough of the game. big hulking ghost type... and he's also a warm, jolly fellow? something's not adding up here.

in my own version, dusknoir isn't a famous pokemon nor is he world-reknowned. he's strong, he's knowledgable and he's intimidating. he's been in the past plotting and scheming the same amount of time the hero has. and after all, you don't need other team members to become an explorer.

word would probably reach him via travel about the time gears going missing and he'd immediately scour every inch of the continent for info, eager to throw hands with grovyle only to run into officer magnezone who's investigating the case alongside their fellow magnemites. dusknoir would make up some believable excuse that he's a hobbyist explorer looking to catch grovyle to bolster his own reputation and after explaining what he knows, chief magnezone would take him back to treasure town to have him work exclusively with the wigglytuff guild. it's magnezone who spreads the rumor that dusknoir is well-traveled and intelligent.

dusknoir is both thrilled and exasperated as he now has more access to information via chatot (who actually has the history, skills, documents and reputation of being a head of intelligence) and via wigglytuff's connection to other groups- that, and he now has to work harder to conceal why he's really trying to stay ahead of the guild in tracking down grovyle. he'd be damned if somebody gets their hands on that detestable lizard before he does.

he just lurks around treasure town, mostly in the guild discussing possible locations for the time gears. sometimes, he's gone on solo missions. sometimes, he's in the town buying things. it's understood that he's literally just there to reap the social reward of capturing grovyle and nobody makes a big deal about him just showing up and helping. talking to him is completely optional- he still puts on the fake jolly voice and is very social- but he doesn't really take notice of burr or watts since they're both just guild apprentices doing mundane tasks... that and one of them eats rocks.

one day, he tells chatot that he needs to take a break to reservice his equipment and is pointed specifically in burr's direction to get his wonder orbs repurposed; something only the wigglytuff guild knows about. it's canon that nobody really knows where wonder orbs come from nor how they get their power; they simply exist. same thing with wands, scarves, looplets, etc. not even dusknoir knows the deal with where dungeon items come from or why they replenish themselves.

to dusknoir's knowledge, the only person he once knew who could tinker with wonder orbs without breaking them was grovyle's lost partner... the one who's orbs grovyle still uses to escape being caught. the one who's been conveniently off the radar for some time yet. dusknoir takes the time to ask burr to repurpose his wonder orbs and as she does, he recognizes that she and grovyle's partner share the same name, the same mannerisms, and the same way of actually disenchanting and enchanting orbs (via heat, pressure, and a bit of footprint rune know-how). it's when he catches watts casually making a joke about burr's amnesia to another apprentice does he finally begin to put the pieces together.

the issue with the water float arises. marill & azurill come to the guild looking for hero & partner and make a big scene. almost immediately, burr quietly pinpoints that it's in amp plains (via the dimensional scream ability) and leaves with watts to go and retrive it, dusknoir tagging along because he's familiar with the luxray clan lore and because he has no idea how burr would be able to pinpoint the water float's location so quickly having overheard her.

he comes in handy for the luxray pack and for chasing off team skull once they're found out. the three of them take the float back to town and deliver it back to the marill brothers only for dusknoir to take them both aside later and question their abilities. watts is completely ordinary apart from his relic fragment but being the talkative one, he persuades burr to tell dusknoir about her special ability and to keep it a secret that burr is actually a human.

it's a done deal after that and dusknoir immediately begins laying the bait for both grovyle and his amnesiac partner.

PMD Hero and Partner Week - Day 1 - Market

The team wiped and lost all their reviver seeds... it's a bit of a shaky start to the week for our adventurers but I'm sure they can pull things together! Go team!!

Dusknoir was not talking about just Grovyle here (short fic under the cut)

"Dusknoir, are you ready to go?"

Dusknoir pressed his hands together, running his thumb across his palm. He'd been here since dawn, atop this hill he'd had a magnificent view of the sunrise, and could relish feeling the warm sun upon his ghostly body.

In the morning light, it had all become clear.

Dusknoir glanced over his shoulder. "I'm not going."

Grovyle's brow furrowed, and his arms uncrossed. For a moment, he could only watch Dusknoir, but eventually sighed, and moved to stand beside him. "You're staying? Why?"

Dusknoir looked at his hands and didn't answer. Grovyle had to fight the urge to roll his eyes. He'd been chased through time and across continents by this idiot ghost, and Grovyle had learned to read Dusknoir's expressions.

In the past, they gave hints as to what Dusknoir was planning, when he would attack. Now, Grovyle saw Dusknoir smile sadly, thinking it would go unnoticed.

"Disappointing," Grovyle said, turning his gaze to horizon.

Dusknoir scoffed. "You're always welcome to visit."

"I won't."

Dusknoir's head snapped to glare at Grovyle, but after a moment the look softened. He could hardly blame Grovyle for wanting nothing to do with him.

Grovyle cleared his throat. "I meant, its disappointing you're still so afraid."

Reeling back, Dusknoir felt as if he'd been struck. His gaze narrowed and his fists clenched. "Excuse me?"

Watching the ghost from his peripheral, Grovyle shook his head. "All your actions were born from fear. I thought you were past that. I figured you might want to try actually living for a change."

"I-"

"Aren't you still running?" Rounding on Dusknoir, the leaves on Grovyle's arm stood on end and his claws flexed. "What are you so afraid of?"

Straightening up, Dusknoir towered over Grovyle. It would be so simple to reach out and just dispose of this annoying, little-

Freezing, Dusknoir retreated, his gaze returning to his hands. He couldn't, he couldn't go back.

"Answer me!" Yelled Grovyle, pressing his advance. "What are you running from?"

Dusknoir's shoulders sagged. "I can't face them. After everything I did, they couldn't forgive me."

"Why should they?" Asked Grovyle, his tone dripping with anger and, curiousity?

"They shouldn't," muttered Dusknoir.

Grovyle pointed sharply and Dusknoir flinched, reflexively falling into a defensive stance.

"Why shouldn't they?" Demanded Grovyle.

Dusknoir's gaze narrowed as he replayed the conversation in his mind. "You're contradicting yourself."

"You're dodging the question! Why should they forgive you? Why shouldn't they? Why do you need them to know!?"

"Because they're innocent!" Screamed Dusknoir, something visceral bursting from his chest. "Those two, I tried to kill them. I tried to destroy that world!"

Taking a breath, Grovyle relaxed his posture, rolling back on his long feet. "You tried to kill me, too. Nearly succeeded four times."

"Five," muttered Dusknoir. "Five times."

Grovyle scoffed, and shook his head. "Dusknoir, a spirit can't shine buried under guilt. If it'll help, spend the rest of your life atoning. You can't take it back, but you've been given a second chance. How will you use it?"

His hands fell to hang limply at his side and Dusknoir closed his eye, but the face on his belly distorted, as if screaming in pain.

"I shouldn't have survived."

His mouth falling open, Grovyle wasn't sure if he'd heard that correctly. Dusknoir, the one who spent so long fighting to stay alive, said what?

Dusknoir shook his head. "After everything, why am I still alive? I don't deserve this."

Grovyle felt a flash of anger course through his body and he threw his arms wide. "You didn't deserve the Dark Future either. None of us did, but it's what we got! You did the best you could with what you had. Now, you have something more. Imagine what you could do with all that.

"Dusknoir. We got a second chance at life. Don't waste yours. Don't keep living in fear."

Turning, Grovyle began walking back down the hill, to where Celebi waited with the Passage of Time.

A muffled sob escaped from Dusknoir. "I don't know how to keep moving forward."

Grovyle smiled over his shoulder. "One step at a time."

Alone

Day 6 of Hero and Partner Week: Alone/Last Adventure

//Mags’ side of the temporal reset (for him only)! Yes, I know this may have little PMD content and more KRTDL and KATFL but the prompt fits! Also, Metalor is real in this fic.

Magolor shot awake in the Lor Starcutter, remembering that… voice. That voice with so, so, much sorrow.

Was it him that they mourned? He wasn’t dead, that’s for sure.

He couldn’t make sense of it. Figures, names, colors, all a blur.

He decided to shrug it off. The four were returning with the ship’s mast.

He put on that smile, thanked them, yet his gut screamed to not lie. Not lie about anything.

A few months later.

Everyone loathed Magolor.

Except Kirby. Nothing can make that puffball give up on someone.

Like someone he knew

Meta Knight merely let him live in his ship to observe him.

Then the Dreamstalk incident happened. He helped Kirby save Dedede. He got back a bit of the Knight’s trust. But something nagged at him when he saw the sun rise as Kirby defeated Sectonia.

“Maybe it’s because we were in the future for so long, but I never thought a sunrise could feel this renewing! The sun rises, then it sets. We take that fo granted and it’s only natural. But the things we take for granted… they’re really the most essential things, and they’re precious.”

And another. It seemed that whenever and wherever this was, he merely listened.

“All I’d ever known is the future’s world of darkness. Upon coming to this world… and seeing the sun for the first time… It was staggering. Seeing it… it strengthened my resolve to turn history away from a future of darkness.”

And after that, he remembers speaking, but can’t remember what he said.

More months passed. Magolor and Meta got closer. More than just friends. Yet, even with his hard earned happiness, something was still missing.

It was like he was still alone.

Meta Knight noticed that something was wrong. Off. His normally upbeat Magolor just looked… lost. Alone. Like he was missing something. And was thinking more often.

“Magsie? Are… you alright?” He tried, and for the first time in the three months they were together, Magolor chose to let him in.

“I-I dunno, Knighty. I really don’t know. I’m… supposed to be happy… but… I don’t know. It always feels like I’m missing something. Like I forgot something that I shouldn’t have.”

It was needless to say that Meta Knight was shocked. This made him think,

“How much do I really know about him?”

Yet he stayed.

It already had been a whole year since his arrival. He had lived with him. Dated him for three months. And since he let him in, it would be a breach to his trust if he left, right?

“Magsie… you don’t need to hide it from me.

I’m right here with you, even in the dark. And…

I’m staying.”

Was what he said.

And he planned to keep it.

Finding his Magolor hurt by Elfilis, possessed him. Meta Knight ensured that it would pay.

Ever since that possession… his smile wasn’t the genuine ones Meta Knight loved seeing. It felt like a nightmare to see Magolor suffering.

Turns out, that possession had finally jogged Magolor’s lost memories back. And after giving him time to process it, he cried. Endlessly for days.

“Oh, dear Arceus… I broke my… own promise… Mety, I don’t know what to do! That’s why I’ve been feeling so alone! Everly… Grovyle, Celebi… and then we fought Dialga and…” theage tries to tell him everything, but Meta lets him take his time.

Seeing him like this… Meta Knight couldn’t bear it. So, he stayed and consoled the mage.

And he vowed to himself, that as long as he’s here, Magolor won’t feel alone again.

What kind of content would you like to see from me after TPiaG is finished uploading?

I’ve got a lot of storylines I could pursue that are TPiaG-adjacent (like my 5,000 branching AUs), or I could try and continue the fic chronologically somehow. Alternatively, I could start a new fic with some original PMD characters of mine— or even try branching out into some more fandoms or posting my original work!

Here’s a list of some of my stuff I’ve posted about previously to provide some ideas, but don’t feel bound to discussing them alone:

Mortality Exchange AU: A TPiaG alternate storyline where Twig manages to kill Darkrai during the Dark Crater fight and becomes his replacement as the Legend of Nightmares.

Dugtrio Day AU: A PMD2 AU about a new Hero and Partner that revolves around a time loop, how it affects the Hero, and how she breaks out of it and deals with the aftermath.

Legends Lost: An original storyline set in the same universe as TPiaG, but starring an almost entirely original cast and plot.

Peepaw + Isekai’d Cat: A duo of PMD OCs— Necrozma and the once-human litten who helps him recover his true form by giving him hope— and their daily lives.

Paradox Fam: A group of PMD OCs starring a human-turned-flutter mane and said human’s adopted mother and father, a slither wing and iron moth, who hate each other’s guts.

Team Crypt: An exploration team of PMD OCs who solve mysteries in a manner that rivals the shenanigans of Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang.

The Creeping Chronicles (at end of post): A fantasy story about bug people with trauma which has evolved rapidly and dramatically from when I impulsively uploaded a prologue in comic form.

Room 214: A stand-alone short comic about a reluctant exorcist and a friendly ghost that I think could be expanded upon into a broader storyline.

The Name-Oath: A two-part original story about a mortal woman who divorces a fairy prince after an ugly falling-out, and his desperate efforts to get back together.

THIMBLEQUEST: An original video game concept about a tiny moth knight who’s on a quest to find the seven holy thimbles and save the land from an ancient threat.

Unnamed Pokémon Gym Story: A mainline Pokémon OC that is a weather-enthusiast pokemon trainer and her golisopod who keeps bringing home injured bug-types.

Homebound: An Among Us fanfic featuring interspecies adoption, unlikely friendships, tragic backstories, and angst. A lot of angst.

PMD: Children of the Creator

“To cosmic forms from tangent planes / We end as we began.”

A Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon/Warframe crossover.

What if you woke up in a world in a new body, no memory to your name, six months after everyone says the world already "ended?" A world where the ancient past, the present, and the distant future all exist together at the same time?

That's a question Neesha, a human-turned-Fennekin, has to answer for herself, thrown into a world far beyond the scope of what she could possibly hope to imagine, on the run from a group of Beheeyem for reasons she can't even begin to understand, taking shelter in the small, humble Serene Village under the care of Nuzleaf.

Though she begins to remember her human life in chunks, these memories are less than comforting, and only serve to worry Neesha the more she learns about herself.

To top it off, her new friend, a Chespin named River, seems to know very little about herself as well, but it soon becomes clear that she's far from just an ordinary Chespin.

What starts as an odd friendship turns into a journey to find themselves, one that will lead them on an adventure between worlds, an adventure that defies reality, time, space... And the Void itself.

Through the eyes of my peers, there is a glare that radiates.

A confused, admittedly awkward Fennekin. Though she might not be a human anymore, that doesn't mean she's lost any of her tenacity. Once she starts something, when she puts her mind to something, she does her best to steel her resolve and see it through to the end. She'll do whatever she can to make sure she does the right thing, even if it hurts her.

River:

In a world where I feel so small, I can't stop thinking big!

The very definition of look before you leap. A very headstrong, stubborn little Chespin who doesn't really seem to think about what she's doing before she actually does it. Much like Neesha, she has no idea where she comes from! But it hasn't really bothered her much! ...Well, until now, anyway, after a particular school lesson causes her to have a very strange dream. One that might not actually be a dream, but of a memory from whence she was first conceived. Or rather... Created?

Oh, and those metal arms she's got? Well, uhhh Let's just say she doesn't exactly get them by choice.

Why Warframe?: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and Warframe are two games that are near and dear to my heart. Both of them impacted me emotionally more than I ever could have imagined, and when I started playing Warframe last year, I never thought it would end up becoming such a huge part of my life, as much as Pokemon was.

The more I played Warframe, the more I began to think of ways to connect it to Pokemon, and it all blended surprisingly well. So many elements of these two completely unrelated, drastically different series and games have in common, and it just kinda rolled from there, really.

Basically I'm a big dork who wanted to pour two of her biggest hyperfixations into a massive passion project lmao

How long will this fic be? I have no idea! I've been working on it for a year up to this point and I just recently crossed 200k words, which far eclipses any other project I've previously worked on. I'm in this for the long haul and I'm excited to carry y'all along this journey if you choose.

Had a PMD Hot Take: If the written language of the PMD world isn’t Unown script (yet the Hero’s from our world), everyone just assumed the hero was a former Wild (non-dungeon) Pokemon who wanted to join society. The logic is kinda wonky cause I would imagine Hero doesn’t really register fully as a wild Pokémon. They have a decent understanding of math for a Pokémon that can’t read… Okay, maybe they are only half wild? One parent was an wanderer who had a fun night with a wild Pokémon.

Maybe Hero was raised a bit by non-feral parent, but ultimately taken by feral parent to be raised in the wilds traditionally. If the fact the Hero can navigate dungeons rather well so found out—definitely a trait of a wild Pokémon. (Mystery Dungeon mess with Pokémon instincts or senses to the point getting lost is easier. Compared to a human who can distinguish themselves from these instincts and keep track of going through ten plus rooms.)

So. I can just imagine the Hero connecting better with the wild Pokémon they recruit or raise than the partner. Even if the hero isn’t so great with reading, they have a terrifyingly accurate read of body language. (Raised around animals, humans are more likely to lie or dance verbal battles than an animal-esk being. Reads a lot of fanfiction and debates about what alien species would be like in a story setting.)

…Consequently, no one wholeheartedly believes Hero was actually once a human. Humans tamed nature with their inventions, defied the nature laws of the world—how would the quirky youngster who marvels at Mystery Dungeon be one of the creatures from legend?

Even if the Hero was a shut-in or had social anxiety, they still help Pokemon.

there is something hilarious about partner and other pokemon just debating back and forth on where hero came from and how they know the things they do or don't know, or how their instincts work and the noticeable differences with that

then hero walks up with some paper like "read this for me, what's it say?" and it sparks more debate

Icy sanctum: A sanctuary that will only make things worse for you. Ex: "Don't go to the gambler's corner. It's an icy sanctum."

Within the sadness: The lowest point in a hero's journey, when all seems lost. Ex: "The hero and their companions were within the sadness when the villain attacked their hometown."

And yes, each of them are from a song title from one of the 5 PMD games.
