#love a complex character
Text
I think there's actually something really profound in Donna's 'missing everything' gag. Like, yes, it's objectively funny that this woman has somehow missed every alien invasion in the entirety of her time on Earth.
But there's more to it than that. She's the most compassionate companion, the most down to Earth as the saying goes. She sees things that others don't. Like the missing sick records, the way others are treated, Martha's ring. Sees the inside of the Tardis before she sees the outside. And perhaps most importantly, she doesn't see The Time Lord - that big otherworldly figure. She just sees the Doctor. Sees his need for true companionship, his need for guidance, his need for someone to carry a burden he is being crushed under.
She misses the big things, yes, but in exchange she is so wholly, beautifully immersed in the small things no one else sees.

none of you are talking abt whiskey which truthfully is such a damn shame. she was introduced and i thought she was just supposed to be the dumb blonde girlfriend - arm candy. but then she ran into helen and we immediately see how badly she wants to do more, but she feels trapped to go along with what duke does in order to build her future. shes also the only person to look at helen, who she believes is andi, and say thats shes sorry, that she was fucked over and didnt deserve what happened. dont look at me and say this character wasnt fucking fantastic

seen some ppl say they hate the ghoul because he’s a bad person. alternatively I love the ghoul because he’s a bad person. he shot a guys foot off so he couldn’t run away. he killed a dog then brought it back to life bc it was useful. he used a living person as bait for a giant lake monster. he eats human flesh. he’ll kill anyone or anything that gets in his way (or for money). he’s one of the worst things the wasteland has created and actively makes the most morally bankrupt decisions. he USED to be a good person, and he suffered a great loss, and he might make better decisions later on, but it doesn’t change the fact that while some ghouls turn feral against their will he actively chooses everyday to be a monster. and I love that for him!!!!!!

sometimes I see people calling Aziraphale selfish in an accusatory way, as if it's a flaw that needs to be smoothed out, as if it isn't a trait that is at once defiant and emancipating, as if his selfishness isn't mostly wielded in an empowering and kind way, as if it's categorically bad to want things for yourself, to enjoy them, to have and keep them, as if selfish isn't the most revolutionary thing an angel can be

Also, agree what you said about Alicent. She is so flawed and sympathetic. I loved when Rhaenys called her out on her hypocrisy. Like, she suffered so much because of the society she is in and instead of going against it or just not participating, she actively upholds it. And I'm just like, why? What are you getting out of this? Because your power here is an illusion, unfortunately. And it's clear Rhaenyra is trying to eek out whatever sort of agency and happiness she can because she knew from the jump how this world was. And Alicent resents her for realizing that and taking action! And that's valid but it's also like, you waster your energy hating your best friend (who also suffered and whose legitimacy as heir is threatened because of your offspring) instead of using your position as queen to sway your husband, father, and the rest of society to see things differently. I get that she is a product of the place and time she is in but it's also like, girl you are clearly up in your feelings and you are taking it on on the wrong person. Before Rhaenyra omitted the truth about her virtue, you had your own secrets. So it's funny to watch Alicent be so righteous and angry. She had every right to be but I'm also like, you make me laugh. You're response is to punish yourself and other women constantly. She is so convinced of the power of men and its disheartening. What would it have looked like if she supported Rhaenyra? Gained power through joining with her? But that would never happen. She was so convinced that Rhae would kill her own siblings (again, ironic because of what her own children do) and that Luke and Jace being Harwin's boys were such an affront that everyone (Viserys was fine with it and Rhae could legitimize them when she became queen, problem solved) that she can't step back and see how the whole thing is a farce. It is a game. And she sees how harmful it is and yet the only way she can survive and keep some sort of sanity is to play.
And don't fucking get me started on Otto. Like, let's not forget Alicent is his daughter and while she is a victim, she is still nobel, a royal, and reeps many benefits in the position she is in. And Otto knows that. He made sure of it and she had to pay a huge price to be where she is unfortunately. That's exactly why he uses her. He is greedy and opportunistic and isn't content with what he has, which really is a lot. He is the second most powerful man in the realm. And that's not enough for him. It was clear he was never fond of Rhaenyra-like, look at how he treats his own daughter. If he barely respects Alicent, how would he feel about the woman who would inherit the throne? She is a threat to him! He cant control her and he hates that. He can't stand that a woman would be above him and she would certainly replace him as hand when she became queen and he knew that (while Aegon wouldn't). It has nothing to do with tradition. That's the excuse. It's that he cannot fathom a woman being more powerful than he is and being better at running the show. But he would never say that.
Firstly, love Rhaenys. She's probably one of my faves.
Secondly, yeah the Hightowers are a whole thing. I was so glad when Viserys booted Otto out and so annoyed when he came back like!! C'mon. If he was using his Hand powers to manipulate things to his liking before, you know he's going to do it again.
I can't remember where I read it but someone mentioned how part of Alicent's resentment as well is probably over Rhaenyra's boys and how they're not at all like her own shitty sons. She's the queen but the reality of it is not great and from her POV, Rhaenyra's got this great life where she's free and gets everything she wants and everyone loves her. You're right, Alicent should redirect her resentment towards her dad since he's why she got in that position in the first place.
I feel a little bad for her because the men around her always take her wants a step too far for their own gain like when Larys murdered Harwin 'for Alicent' but mostly because he'd become Lord of Harrenhal and when Alicent mentioned Viserys 'dying wish' only to find out nearly the entire council had already been planning to install Aegon as king for a while behind her back. And she isn't (usually) one to jump at murder as the first resort (like she was horrified about what happened to Harwin and she wanted to give Rhaenyra a better way to concede the throne) but these men get into her head!! The men push and prod Alicent to make the decisions they want made and she's so self-righteous and insane sometimes, don't get me wrong but I hate it for her when she's just, like, one person vs all these guys who think they know better.

"it was awkward to see colin flirt and behave like a rake" "he gave me the ick" yes ! that is the fucking point!! congratulations! you have the media literacy skills of a fucking monkey because my 4-year old niece could understand it better than you do.
we are supposed to find colin cringey and annoying and get the ick because that is not who he is. he is not anthony, or simon, or even benedict. colin (apart from gregory) is the sweetest of all bridgerton brothers (i'm going by book canon) and his most identifiable character trait is the fact that he values an emotional connection above everything. he runs away to the continent because he wants to feel that emotional connection. he has meaningless sex in brothels because that is the example he has seen growing up, that is the norm. he tries so hard to fit into the norm. he goes out drinking, adopts an entirely new personality, learns flirtations because that is how he thinks he will fit in. he's got armour on, as violet said. he puts everyone's needs above his own, he stops rambling on and boring his family with details of his trip because he knows no one cares. he doesn't talk to anthony or benedict about his heartaches because he knows they still, somewhere in their heart of hearts, view him as the annoying younger brother. he's so devastated by his closest friend not responding to him that he adopts a new personality in the hopes that it might mask the hurt better. he runs after penelope in episode one because he is so attuned to her emotions that he knows she's hurting, and tries to comfort her even when she's spiraling and lashes out. he must have been hurt by her words in the "good night mr bridgerton" scene but he puts it aside to genuinely apologise to her when literally no one else in that family would do that. colin, instead of brooding over his own feelings, goes and corners penelope in her family's garden and apologises to her, disregarding his own hurt at being cruelly dismissed by his close friend.
penelope asking colin to kiss her is not a mark of how "pathetic" she is. she has written and shamed herself in a manner that is almost entirely unsalvageable. she is at her lowest point, and then portia comes in and reminds her of how undesirable she is, and she sinks even lower. she asks colin to kiss her because she sees it as a final act, after which she can quietly wave goodbye to her dreams of ever getting married and leaving her mother's home. colin kisses her because he is also keenly aware of how she's feeling. he knows how hurt she is, he wants to do anything to alleviate that. be it cracking a joke, or kissing her. he is gentle, because he wants it to be something she can dream of when she's by herself. penelope, at this moment, has no hope for herself, and their kiss is an act of letting go for her. no, it's not a pity kiss, no he did not like her after her glow up, he has always loved her. him being struck dumb is a reaction to her physical transformation, nothing more. he does not flirt with her in that ballroom scene, he only approaches her when she's in distress. he's not flirting with her. i can assure you penelope could wear the frumpiest most neon yellow gown of all time and colin would still go "<333 my pen" for her.
colin jumps to catch the balloon's ropes because he sees that penelope is in danger, he does not give a shit about anyone else lmao. he feels temporary relief when he sees eloise run to safety, but the moment he sees penelope in immediate danger, he rushes to take action. afterwards, when he sees that she's being comforted by debling (all my homies hate debling, even if he is aro/ace coded i do NOT claim him) he does not approach her. it would be easy for him to do so, but he does not, because he respects her boundaries. colin bridgerton is the only man in the ton who respects women (the featherington sons-in-laws are too pretty to have a thought) he calls out fife and his friends for treating women like objects and calls them cavalier. the only way he would have been more explicit about his demisexuality was if he tap danced on the club table (entertaining thought, luke newton please)
colin also rapidly takes action, something which no one in the show has done so far. simon would have died instead of accepting his feelings for daphne, daphne would have been content with a loveless marriage forever instead of asking for help. kate would have pushed edwina down the aisle and gone off to india instead of confronting her own feelings, and anthony would have married edwina if she hadn't been brave enough for the three of them to run from the altar and ruin herself. penelope stood on the sidelines for years and loved him quietly because she had no hope of him loving her back. colin, the moment he is assured of his feelings, runs to penelope, almost kisses her in the middle of a ballroom. when he hears that debling is about to propose, he goes to the ball, just to dissuade penelope one more time. he cuts into their dance because he's desperate. when he runs after her carriage, he asks her if she has been proposed to, because he would not have touched her otherwise. he confesses his feelings to her only when he knows that she hasn't gotten engaged to debling, and when she says "but we are friends" he moves away. nothing more. he would have let her go, if she did not return his feelings.
idk whether i should be flattered or offended at people misunderstanding this season because on one hand it is offensive, but on the other hand, it means only smart people get polin. seriously. your minds have been rotted by insta-love and enemies to lovers that you can't even appreciate the innate beauty of friends to lovers. being friends with someone and then holding all those feelings for them. the trepidation of possible rejection. the fulfillment of being loved by the person who knows you the best of them all. the privilege of loving someone whose feelings you know better than your own. love is gentle and kind and yes it is a violent, uprooting force but above all, love does not hurt anyone. it does not hurt you. i could love someone quietly for years and it wouldn't bother me if their feelings were requited or not because my feelings are none of their business and i consider it a privilege to love and be loved by them, even if it is not in the way i would want it to be. polin are privileged in the highest sense. they know each other better than anyone else, they know how to love each other better than anyone else. to think they are rushed or they dont deserve each other is a disservice to both of them. they would be miserable with anyone else.
in other matters, if i see one more person talking smack about luke or nicola behind the safety of their screens i will personally get a bazooka.

I’m 100% sure this is already general knowledge but it’s my first time thinking about it and I’m kinda obsessed-
Bc of S2 Ep3 Exs and Ohs we get a small glimpse into Moxxie and Blitzø’s backstory, where we find out that they meet RIGHT after Moxxie’s impromptu “break up” with Chaz
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then based on the trailer we got a glimpse of what is supposedly (and in my opinion, most likely) Blitzo and Millie’s first meeting, based on how young they look and the fact that Millie has long hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So…
Does that mean Blitzø introduced Moxxie and Millie?
I don’t know why but I’m obsessed with the idea that Blitzo introduced them. I think it’s such an adorable plot line <3 I love the idea of them both being friends individually with Blitzø before they became a couple.
It would also describe why he’s so obsessed with the two of them. Maybe because he’s so happy to see their love bloom, knowing he helped get it there <3
(But maybe it’s also because he had to sit back and watch them get the thing he’s always wanted most in life: unconditional love. He looks at them sometimes and just thinks “why not me? When will it be my turn?”)

I really enjoy the contrast between the attitude towards killing in PJO and MCGA. Percy doesn't like killing and only does it when he has to, while feeling very tortured that he is quite good at violence despite wanting to avoid it. then Magnus shows up and his first resort is killing and he is so so bad at it. his sword is swinging him for god's sake, this boy is so cringefail at fighting and it is his first instinct, which goes entirely unquestioned. really a beautiful, beautiful contrast.

what i really like about max's character in npmd is that he fully recognises that he's in his prime at high school ("don't need no one to tell me/ high school will be my peak"), and he's more than willing to "take advantage" of that. he understands that this is as good as it's going to get for him, and that's why he's so reluctant to let go of it. he lets his god complex fester because he has so much power at hatchetfield high, and when he dies, he's able to enforce that even further. he doesn't care that the group "buried and left [him]/ defiled [his] body". like this, he's in his prime forever. he's just angry that his system has been destroyed, that he's clearly lost his power in his death. so he kills richie and ruth to restore that, intimidating them into acting just as they did before his death, even after richie makes new friends and ruth begins to embrace a role as a performer. they've just started to grow further as people and characters, and max puts a stop to it as soon as he can. he goes after pete and steph not beause they killed him, but because they're dating- exactly what he forbid just before his death; by defying him, they take away his power. his goal, as stated, isn't revenge. max views himself as a god, and refuses to let anyone take the little world he's created away from him.
