We need a The Seven season 2 about the Daughters Of The Crown. Partially because I’m obsessed with The Seven’s energy, partially because I need more of these fairytale princesses. I also really want to see all the cut content from Neverafter (Goldilocks, The Old Woman In The Shoe, The Nutcracker, etc)

Elody-Rekha Shankar (Elody already made me bawl so many times. Katja already made me bawl so many times. I know from Mice and Murder that she can pull that exes dynamic HARD. REHKA! DESTROY ME EMOTIONALLY PLEASE!! But seriously, she’s such an emotionally powerful actor, and this is a role I would implicitly trust her with.)

Mira-Isabella Roland (Do I just want her and her prince or Alba to have a romantic relationship so that I can freak out about how amazing Brennan and Izzy’s relationship is? Mayhaps. But seriously, Izzy always gets incredibly deep into her character, and I’d love to see her do that with as tragic of a character as Mira. Plus, part of the reason I love Mira so much is her rebellious streak (for lack of a better term), and I KNOW Izzy can bring that “fuck you world” energy.)

Rapunzel-Becca Scott (We know from The Seven that she can pull of INTENSE energy masterfully, and I would love to see her have that intensity with a more…devious character I suppose? I’m not sure if I’m making sense. Anyways, let my girl be cunning and cruel, I’m begging you. Give Becca this please.)

La Bête-Persephone Valentine (I hesitate to put this one, because I know the very common headcanon of La Bête as trans and I don’t want to treat Persephone as just “the trans one” like certain other people in this fandom. However, Persephone is just so good at portraying such a big character with so many underlying subtleties, it’s just perfect for her. Her ability to craft a character that seems so obviously one way at first glance, but with so many hidden layers and facets underneath is just amazing.)

awh, thank you so much!! i'm always heartened greatly to see people finding enjoyment in my blog and my content. i do this for all of us henry-enamored masses, as goddd knows we deserve it. there is such a profound lack of content about him pretty much everywhere.

this is such a thrilling ask to receive! i would love to share my thoughts on that. because i have strong perfectionist tendencies, however, i will deviate from the instructions a little bit and break this down into two sections — a short mention of interests that align with the canonical timeline, and one that attunes to a more modern setting. beware that i'm incredibly biased, but all of these just make sense to me. click on links to hear examples.

so, we know that TSH takes place in the 80s. it's never directly mentioned which year we are actually toying with, but it's sort of generally established in the fandom that the story starts in the late summer/fall of 1983 (richard attending hampden and joining the greek class), and ends in the summer of 1984 (henry doing what he did). therefore, these first few propositions on my end are based on this boundary. not to worry, however — it'll be quite short, as i, as a contemporary member of gen z, have way more things to add to the modern list.

he would be quite fond of classical music, there's no way around it. specifically, and mostly because of donna tartt's own description of him likening an old ballerina, i would even go as far as saying that he prefers ballet. take tchaikovsky as an example — swan lake or the nutcracker as the classics, definitely. i wouldn't even exclude the possibility that he would like to go see performances thereof (aside from reimaginations of ancient greek theater, of course). i'm not exactly well-versed in classical music, but from what i do know, i would also like to add that he could like rachmaninoff, shostakovich, beethoven and bach, of course. chopin, even. and yes, i know, this might be quite boring to uninterested minds — which is why i will be moving on.

to assume a slightly more modernized viewpoint (80s-90s)... he would love depeche mode. specifically their albums some great reward, black celebration, and ultra — the comparably darkest ones. this doesn't quite align with the "canonical" timeline as all of those were released around/after 1984, but i just know he would. specifically the songs but not tonight, only when i lose myself, lie to me, if you want, and (of COURSE) enjoy the silence. just basically depeche mode as a whole — so fitting.

for a more broad approach to slightly older music: tears for fears, the cure, duran duran, billie joel, U2, chris isaak, the smiths.

now, to modern stuff. i have to mention lana del rey. there is no way around her when i talk about henry. ultraviolence and honeymoon are his albums. from UV: specifically shades of cool, black beauty, and the title track itself. from honeymoon: the blackest day, swan song, terrence, and, once again, the title track itself. from other albums, i'd say: if you lie down with me, did you know, NFR, national anthem, and i can fly. a bonus mention of unreleased songs that suit him so well: cult leader, tv in black and white, and serial killer. can you tell i am a diehard lana fan? always have, always will. i could write a novel-length essay about how each song on her discography correlates with henry. i love them both so.

other examples of newer music he would like: mitski (specifically heat lightning and once more to see you, but generally all of them), lorde, mac demarco, local natives, the national, birdy. and — you need to hear me out — some taylor swift songs. i think he would appreciate the poeticism of folklore (e.g. hoax, this is me trying, the lakes) and evermore (cowboy like me, tolerate it). sue me.

when it comes to film and tv... i'd say he would be one of those people who genuinely enjoy silent movies, lol. pretentiously so. to be less humorous, i think he'd quite enjoy complex dramas. the haunting of hill house, maybe. the sixth sense. the shining. the silence of the lambs. hannibal. TROY (although he would complain and complain and complain about the inaccuracy but still like it). a clockwork orange. dexter. evidently, i'm not a huge movie nerd, which is why this might be a little general. but here are just some thoughts.

for musicals, i needed to consult my devoted theater kid friend. to make a long debate short, we agree that it would be the phantom of the opera, les mis, and heathers (for some funny reason). as an explanation on the latter — he would enjoy the hierarchy concept and the dark comedy of it all. but this is just a wild card, lol. the other two are more fitting (specifically the phantom of the opera!).

this took longer than anticipated to compose, but i hope it provides some sort of outlook. thank you, once again, for this wonderful ask! i was overjoyed to say the absolute least.

ANYWAY—

1. I thought of a scene of two similar company ships land on the same moon. The doors of them open. An employee from the ship sticks their head out, peaking out to see the other ship. At the same time, an employee from that ship does the same. Another employee from each side joins in on the staring...

Then, Justice checks to see what its crew mates are looking at. Once again, at the same time, someone else sticks their head out... They also have a nutcracker?! (I imagine it being Woody, but it could also be another of Justice's model.)

Haven't developed anything past this, other than an epic team up time and Justice gifting Woody a hat it took off an enemy nutcracker.

2. How would Justice react to the employee/master returning the favour?: helping it with the chores and trying to stop it from getting damaged from entities, even if it means injury to themself?

Also, if I give Justice a kiss on the cheek, how does it respond? :3

3. I had a realisation: there are giant pumpkins and beehives in the game. We have moons with straight up forests in them, which the employees can look up info about. I'm starting to think that with a mix of research, determination, and cooking prowess, Justice could actually cook banger meals more often.

4. What's Justice's problem with bright colours?

5. Justice using its dancing abilities to pull a tired employee out of bed, to make sure they're awake for this morning's excursion, and forcing them awake as they suddenly have to keep up with Justice's moves.

Christmas in the snow. You still cannot believe you talked your fair-weather-loving, sunshine preferring, California boy into it. I played fortnite chapter 1 season 3 to the very start of chapter 1 season 7... the gameplay was really fun but I didn't have anyone to play with really so I ended up falling out of playing it for a year

then I saw that there was a new chapter and was like. fuck it. why not. and redownloaded the game

yeah I haven't dropped it in like 4 years (that's weird to say. how the fuck has it been that long)

and I made new friends when I got back into it and I have ppl to play with now :3

anyways as for the nutcracker I cant exactly remember... iirc it was hearing his character in save the world and I was hooked. love me some silly freak insane guys. fuck yes.

Hey all -- I haven't been playing any of the game's newest content in a while, but in honor of the holidays, I thought I'd revisit this cute scene I had in screenshots for Carewyn from the Hagrid's Holiday quest from a while back...specifically in Ollivander's wandshop!

Oh GEEZUS, did you ask the right person, Ollivander!! The music is Carewyn's absolute favorite aspect of the holiday season, partly because music is just so special to her as it is. 💚

Hahaha, now you're appealing to my Bat Varney muse, Ollivander!! Who in turn is also largely prompted by my own passionate love of Christmas. ^.^

But yeah, Carewyn's favorite Christmas carols are Do You Hear What I Hear? and The First Noel, the second of which she used to sing as a duet with Jacob when she was younger. Jacob's also very fond of Once in Royal David's City, since it's one of Lane's favorites and Jacob used to sing a solo in it when they went caroling to make her smile. Some of Lane's other favorites include The Holly and the Ivy and What Child is This?. As for me personally, I'm very partial to both I'll Be Home for Christmas and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, as well as the entire Nutcracker, Muppet Christmas Carol, and Nightmare Before Christmas soundtracks and Trans-Siberian Orchestra's holiday discography.

basil: "oh, crud..."

[basil drops his sack of stolen presents and scribbles something on the back of the card, leaving it and the sack in front of alfred's post, and climbs over the gate. when basil is gone, alfred opens his eyes, revealing he was only pretending to sleep.]

alfred: "huh. I can't believe that worked."

[basil's not is shown, which reads "to toyhouse corners, from santa," followed by a panel of basil walking away from the city's gate past a big billboard reading "toyhouse corners."]

alfred: "maybe he's got some christmas spirit after all."

[basil arrives home to his secluded post office house, takes off his santa costume, picks up a striped scarf, and climbs solemnly into bed cuddling it.]

the next day, alfred is scolding some kids for having a snowball fight in the town square.

alfred: "hey! what did I tell you children about snowball fights? they're dangerous, and--hey, slow down! saffron goodweather, don't make me call your mother! that goes for you too, jonathan--at least slow down if you're going to climb that! avi may, put your mittens back on!"

[basil approaches sheepishly in his normal uniform.]

basil: "hey, freddie."

alfred: "[happily] oh, hello basil!"

basil: "merry, uh... afternoon."

alfred: "and to you. hey, if you're not busy, you could join us at the hall for holiday luncheon, the more the merrier."

basil: "uh, no, thanks, I've got my rounds to do--just stopping by to give you your mail."

alfred: "oh. well alright, then."

basil: "here."

[basil hands over a single badly wrapped parcel.]

alfred: "[confused]...there's no stamp on it."

basil: "[awkwardly] yeah, it's a, uh... local delivery."

[alfred opens up the package to find the same striped scarf from basil's apartment inside.]

alfred: "[gasp] my favourite scarf! I thought I lost this!"

basil: "strange how things turn up, huh?"

alfred: "basil... thank you. / y'know, for, um... the delivery."

basil: "just doing my job, mister guard."

alfred: "[blushing] basil, I... if I may, I'd like to--"

[basil is interrupted as he is hit in the face and side with snowballs. the kids laugh and alfred turns to reprimand them.]

alfred: "alright, who threw those? that was cleary an overhand throw--underhand only! shall I do the underhand throwing demonstration again? and you have to ask before you make someone a part of your game--slow down!"

[basil smiles to himself as he watches alfred go after the giggling children and blushes.]

basil: "merry christmas, freddie."

holy shit i come back after not using tumblr for like a good year i think other than just mindlessly scrolling. now watch as i perform this really cool magic trick called “posting something, leaving, and never coming back until next year”.

anyways hi its kenji/leia... whichever you want to use lmao today was just one of those days where i revisit old ocs i know i have but refuse to draw them after having a hardcore phase for them back then. it do be like that sometimes but tbh i think its for the best of me. so here's my main OCs featured in whatever nutcracker story i have, Holle (old musketeer lady), Dolokhov (the little guy), and Roscow (the one i'm morally afraid for).

id love to get back more into them and the story i had for 'em tbh, so... idk hmu with questions or comments !! idk its been a while since i've drawn them but i have a lot of stuff planned for them tbh.

Casting My Opinions Into The Void: d20′s Neverafter ep 1+2

this is the first d20 campaign im going to be following live and i am excited enough to do a lil post each week or so about it. mostly bc recycling and adapting and retelling and retranslating old stories that “everyone knows” is my whole shit. like i got a degree in the study of ancient greek and roman civilization (classics). my whole thing is reading old myths and plays that “everyone knows” how they go and seeing what each author/translator brings to the table.

anyway i watched episodes 1 n 2 and i am excited and my observations are below

(like if you were really into the Sisters Grimm series as a kid and are similarly excited for this lol the modernized fairytale characters in that series are literally called “Everafters” and its because it’s really good shorthand for the audience. i see you brennan i see you)

normally ppl who do the whole ‘dark/horror/thriller fairytale’ thing fuck it up bc they think it’s about the shock value, or about seeing how nasty you can get with it, so I usually avoid them, but after bingewatching a kadrillion d20 campaigns, I trust brennan to do it right. you have to find the core value/crux of what is horrifying about the story and tease it out, and play with the symbolism and icons of the original story to reflect that. and brennan fuckin delivered.

folks, give a hand to the people who put detailed yet non-spoilery content warnings in the description. tbh dropout shows are setting the standard for sensitivity and inclusion in media. it’s so lovely to see a show w content warnings or pronouns put up onscreen and it just not be addressed. i am forever spoiled for any other kind of media tbh

at some point in the past, brennan found out he could make a really good realistic choking/gagging noise, and he has used it in every campaign since.

i appreciate the ‘scare off the meek early’ approach of it all.

also there really is a Jack in so many stories, i’m glad we’re addressing this. little shit gets up to so much trouble

it feels like I have seen so many tired rewritings of little red riding hood, even though I can’t think of any off the top of my head. it’s usually a sort of surface-deep ‘girl power!’ situation. i’ve never seen one like this. i LOVE it. it was terrifying. the fact that we all just sort of accept ‘barbarian’ as a normal dnd class is kind of wild tbh, i like exploring that rage and its source.

saying the actual nursery rhyme in the context of being the nursery rhyme is so powerful. i fully didn’t understand what was happening to nat king cole (v powerful) until he was gone.

also, herr drosselmeyer - fantastic get. you have to talk about the sugar plum fairy at some point and they already went in hard on her in acoc so i love that they were like you know what, it’s weird uncle time.

(context: herr drosselmeyer is clara’s eccentric uncle with a bunch of automatons and he gives her the nutcracker)

also every production ive seen has his drip immaculate.

The POV of the mice - simplifying it makes it sound ridiculous, but if you really dig into the idea of the mice as sentient beings it’s horrifying.

Dude the symbolism…stepmother eating her kids bc they were always either a tool or an obstacle to her, of course they would be a sacrifice to her hunger for power.

i’ve always liked endings that have the stepsisters reconciling w cinderella bc in the end they were also victims of abuse and it wasn’t the same or the same degree of abuse as cinderella but they were still constantly on thin ice

can you tell that i rewatched d20 live recently and sobbed at adaine and aelwyn’s ending?

Cinderella stabbing the fairy godmother with the broken heel of the shoe that symbolizes both the ending she was meant for and the life that she was forced into. Turning that into glass armor. dude.

The pumpkin carriage rotting bc the fairy godmother is trying to make the happily ever after stay exactly how it is forever but nature decays and time passes and she can’t acknowledge that without realizing both that her role is in the story is over and not only does cinderella not need her anymore, cinderella doesn’t want her anymore, and maybe never wanted her in the first place. 

When puss in boots was asked what he wanted in life and he just said ‘to be comfortable’ #relatable like I know all this is gonna end with him realizing the value of love and friendship over material goods and I 100% agree with that but i feel like this goal or some variation of it are v common today and not often addressed in stories like this

Pinocchio swearing - 10/10. Also how the fuck is Lou doing a Pinocchio voice that perfectly straddles the line between hilarious and annoying. It’s ridiculous enough to always be funny, but sustainable and varied enough that it doesn’t grate on you.

i think we’re getting into “all the princesses in all the stories are all sisters” territory and i for one am THRILLED

we learn in this adventuring party that the OG concept for lou’s pinocchio is that he snapped off his nose so he would be able to lie, which is AMAZING. i fully did not put that together.

Truthfully I’ve been thinking of reworking these final days of the event, I might shift some things around to focus exclusively on the multichaps I’ve started—Cat!Rhys, nutcracker!Rhys, and my secret santa fic, and rearranging the schedule so that I still have time to hang out with my family on the holidays. I’m still planning on uploading Cat!Rhys today! 🥰

Participating every day in a month long event was certainly ambitious, especially immediately following RhysWeek 😂 I do think it was good for me to write this much this consistently, but I’m definitely still of the opinion that week long fandom events are more enjoyable as a creator!

I have some news about COBB. I’m posting the first chapter on friday! I’m kind of worried about the fic since I don’t think I’m even halfway through and I’m already at 30k and still missing so much.

Talking about the writing: Damn. I started working on chapter 6 of my COBB and ofc Baz had to talk and, god, did he talk! And finally the plot plot, the resl thing is finally starting!!!!!! Yesterday, I was writing something for the backstory for his love for Simon and he was describing him dancing in such way it made me fall for Simon, not gonna lie. I’m now looking at him with heart eyes. Damn, Baz, no need to make me love your bf more than I already do.

In reality, I admire all of him. I admire how he’s such a good person, how good he is to everyone, how lovely he dances and the way he performs. The latter is at the top of my favourite things about Snow. 

If you ever go to watch him dance in a ballet, in any ballet, you immediately fall for him. It’s impossible to not be captivated by his smile. The other side of the theatre is not the place I belong; my place is dancing and performing, not watching on the chair. I’ve always been a dancer and it would be so weird if I saw a show rather than participate in it. Except for this one time. 

This is not something I take pride in, but I bought a ticket last year to watch the Nutcracker. I know the ballet so well and it can get repetitive but I was sad because I wasn’t going to be able to see my family. Dev and Niall told me to come to Dev’s place after the last show to have dinner with the three of us and get pissed. I bought a ticket for them, of course, I had never seen them perform, but with Snow as a soloist for the first time, I couldn’t focus on anyone or anything else. The plot of the ballet washed off me since all I did was look after him. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. 

He lit up the entire theatre and took my breath away with the strength of his jumps and the flow of his turns. Anyone who looked at him would be consumed by the way he performed, not danced, performed. It made you feel like you were in the story next to him; it was like he took your hand and walked by your side. You could feel his emotions and his passion. It’s nothing I’ve ever experienced. It took my sorrow away and filled my heart with contentment. That’s what Simon Snow does to you. He owns your heart without asking but you would give it to him willingly if it came down to it. I did. Let him have my heart. I wouldn’t want anyone else to have it.

I didn’t want to write yesterday since I didn’t feel like it, but I had time and no one to interrupt me, so I asked Baz for help and he nailed it! Thanks, love.

How you met: Civilian As you walked the streets of Cardiff, your ears followed the sounds of soft melodies resonating from the Wales Millennium Centre. You entered the large building to hear the sound was resonating from a small orchestra performing in the center foyer. As you approached closer, the acoustics bounced off the walls and the instruments perfectly harmonized together. You noticed that the orchestra was playing a rendition of Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker. As the harpist gently placed their instrument, you stood in the crowd next to a man much taller than you. You looked at him as you stood to view the orchestra. You saw that despite his face being covered with a face mask, his eyes were expressive and he looked in wonder at the musicians as they placed through the pages of sheet music. You were transported into the world they were depicting and smiled as the music flowed through various tempos and volumes. "It's amazing how they all come together like this," you whispered to no one in particular. The man next to you took note of your comment and he nodded in response. You simply let the conversation die until he replied, "they do this every day and for free, been coming here every once in a while." "I can see why," you continued to say in hushed tones, "this is my first time here and I heard the music down the street." As the seven minute song reached its peak, you excitedly watched at the musicals began to speed up the tempo to end the piece. When it was over, the crowd offered them a large round of applause and you and the man next to you joined in. As the crowd began to disperse, the man said, "Heard they're playing Schubert and Chopin tomorrow if you're still in town." You smiled as you looked up to him and replied, "I'll be sure to save you a spot."

A peek into your relationship: After years of dating, you and Simon were comfortable in your expressions of love. Unlike other couples, you preferred quality time over gift giving or physical touch. You both were practical especially as you both had to adjust to each other's professions. Despite this, Simon had something special for your five year anniversary. You already told him that after your day of teaching music to your students, you just wanted to have a simple dinner and maybe go for a walk after. He respected this as he helped you to make a simple dinner and sat with you at the dining room table. You put a record on in the back of some classic French love songs and you both were content with the low-key evening. "This is exactly what I wanted," you sighed as you helped him clean up. "Me too," he replied and continued to put the dishes away and clean your empty glasses. "Still want to go for that walk?" you asked as you wiped down the table. He nodded and you went to your shared bedroom to change into a sweater due to the cold weather. As you rifled through your drawers, you saw a small box positioned on the top of the dresser. You curiously grabbed it and opened to see it was a small music box. You turned the knob and the beginning notes to your favorite song began playing. As you smiled at the small gift, Simon entered the doorway. "I see you found it, happy anniversary, love," he gently said and jokingly offered a hand to dance with you. You took it and in the comfort of your apartment, danced to the music emanating from the small music box.
