There were a lot more than 12 books in my Top 12 last year so this year I've been a tad more reasonable and rational, with what I guess is a Top 14 (if that's a thing).
Sacha Brighton is dreading her sister’s Christmas Eve wedding, but she’s headed to their family cabin in Northern Michigan all the same. Though she is running several hours late and her phone battery died somewhere on the interstate. Nothing surprising there. Sacha had braced herself for a lot of diva wedding antics from Alexis.
What she wasn’t prepared for was to find her sister hired an androgynous wedding planner that Sacha can’t get off her mind.
Genres: contemporary, romance

London, UK. People demonstrate outside the high court in central London, where five Conservative-led councils are challenging the intention of the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to expand the capital’s ultra-low emission zone (Ulez). The outer-London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Harrow and Hillingdon along with Surrey county council launched legal action in February over the proposed extension of Ulez beyond the North and South Circular roads.

lucy had been on cloud nine for days. bexley finally moving in with her had solidified their future in a way she couldn't even imagine. of course, she never had any doubts in the first place but it was still very surreal. they had slowly rebuilt their relationship over the last year, and this was their home now, not just hers. a solid foundation for them to continue building their future together. for the longest time, that was a fantasy that had was so far out of reach. but she knew dwelling on the past never did good for anyone, so all lucy could do was smile as she placed her hands over her girlfriend's eyes and led her out of the bedroom. "okay, i know i've been acting sketchy all day but i promise it's for a good reason." a laugh escaped her lips. she'd left work early to come home and ensure she had enough time to set everything up for their surprise date night. candles spread across the room, the lights dimmed creating a relaxed, but romantic atmosphere. there was wine and lasagna set up at the dining table for them as well. once they were in the dining room, lucy slowly lowered her hands to her sides, feeling giddy despite how often they did these types of things. now it just had a whole new meaning to it in her eyes. "go ahead and open them. now bex."
