Book Review: Quiver by Rachel Spangler
My angst loving friends, I have the book for you. Quiver is a second chance, celebrity, small town, sports and ice queen romance all rolled into one beautifully healing love story.
Kylie Manchester’s once blossoming acting career is waning. In an attempt to save a big audition she tells the director about her amazing skills as a mounted archer… too bad she isn’t one. But she does know one, a champion, only getting the ex-love of her life to agree to help her will be only slightly less painful than actually working with her everyday.
The tension between Kye and Fletcher flares like a wildfire from the start. Their borderline obsession with their work is both what broke them apart, and kept them moving forward for the last 12 years. Fletcher agrees to help Kylie out of a need to give her what she needs to leave as quickly as possible.
The very slow coming together is painful and beautiful, you will want to yell at them and cry for them more than once. I would consider both of the main characters ice queens to different degrees, and their well-earned walls are thick. Without their connection to each other both women suffered in their personal lives never truly able to move on, but unwilling to move backwards.
The combat sport of mounted archery plays a major role in the book and is honestly just so cool. Every scene was descriptive and made me feel like I was there, in the barn, watching the horses and arrows fly by.

I have to admit, this one has not a lot on "The Priory of the Orange Tree" Though when it is comes to LGBT, this one was way better. And PS: I do believe Fýredel is more of the main character than Nameless One, dude is on the cover of both books. He has also been able awaken when the nameless one couldn't. Oh whatever. I like him though.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The action really does portray this book as a prequel which also made me realise a lot of time had passed before book 1's timeline. In Book 1, it is Sabran the Ninth. In this book, it is the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh, Glorian's daughter. Like every fantasy book with dragons, there is bound to be fire and roasted bodies. And there was loads of action with those fire-breathing wyrms. I was saddened to love it all but those scenes are like candy when reading books about dragons.
𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗: I do believe the South won this time. In Priory, it was the West. Mainly because this is where the 𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 story was. And I am all about the sapphic life, so yes.
𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵: 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝘂𝘃𝗮: 50 year old ray of sunshine that was also a badass warrior who loved wholeheartedly. She was a deep character. Her wife, Esbar was also definitely something to behold. The way Tuva and Esbar loved each other and their children, it was awesome. Tuva's son, Wulf finally realising that Thrit loved him. Wulf was bisexual and I think Thrit was gay. Though Wulf and Thrit were in the north. Canthe, that bitch that almost ruined a love blessed by The Mother.
𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁: 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻: The West did have a tight story because at some point there were 3 generations of Berethnet and that very intriguing. Though I do believe Glorian was overrated. Her relationship with her parents was interesting though. Her mom was a total ice queen and her father was such a sunshine overdose but with killer instincts. It was rather adorable how he (King Bardholt) devotedly loved Sabran VI the Ambitious. These even had nicknames for one another despite the toxic environment they were in. I have a feeling Glorian was 𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 but that scene when she spied on her parents that was just nasty. A little heartbreaking in the beginning but nasty in the end. Like girl, what the fuck?
𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗶: She was 𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜. I definitely didn't like her woman but I liked that she was sapphic. Though, this side was slight the down-side of the book. Yes, it did have some intriguing parts with the non-fire breathing dragons and I think that dragon (Nayimathun) from Priory was also here as well (That old bastard). I feel like the name was familiar.. The east wasn't so popular with me even in Priory.
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲: I really enjoyed this book. A lot of scenes had me screaming and cursing but all in all, it was a joyful ride. I can't wait for more, if there will be.

Reposted from @latearareads swipe for some relatables, continue scrolling for a book review ❤️ Burn Down, Rise Up ★★★★★ I talked about this book earlier this year when I had an ARC for it, but I wanted to talk more about it! I'm not really the type to read horror books often, but this one was so good. The writing was incredibly eerie, and it sent chills down my spine. There's so much to enjoy about this book. The creepy urban legend, the suspense, the representation, the main character's determination and the sapphic romance. ❤️ Also, the cover is stunning. This is a quick read, and it's perfect for getting out of reading slumps. One of my favorite reads this year! 5/5 stars and highly recommend. Thank you @sourcebooksfire for the hardcover copy! I love it! ❤️ . . . . #bookblog #girlswhoread #bookreview #igreads #burndownriseup #yabooks #bookcommunity #bookstagram #romancebooks #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #readersofig #bookrecs #BurnDownRiseUp #VincentTirado #SistahScifi #sapphic #sapphicreads #BlackHorror #YAHorror https://www.instagram.com/p/CgWzTYaL5U7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

For my first holiday read of the season, I present #MonicaAdamsSkipsChristmas by #KristaHarper (thanks #NetGalley!) 🎄🎄🎄 Very short, not even 70 pages, which was nice to get into the spirit. Monica is bi, dropping out of college, doesn't know what she wants to do with her life, and her boyfriend admitted to cheating on her while dumping her via phone call while she waited for him to pick her up at a train station. 😲 Everything except that last part hit very close to home for me. I actually had to step away after the first few chapters because I felt so sad for Monica. My heart ached. 💔 No one cared enough that she was home and she had no support. Until she met Paige. Now I loved Paige. I want more Paige. She's the reason I wish this had been a full length novel. Exploring her character more would have been SO good. I mean, she works at a bookstore and she's an artist 👀🥰💗 ❄️❄️❄️ Cute, festive, and Sapphic, with a happy ending. 4/5 and available now on Kindle! 🎁🇵🇱🏳️‍🌈 #books #book #booklover #reading #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookish #booknerd #readersofinstagram #bibliophile #bookaddict #instabook #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #bookrec #bookrecommendations #bookblogger #bookaholic #bookcommunity #booklove #booklovers #lgbtq #sapphicreads #queerlit #Christmas #christmasnovella https://www.instagram.com/p/ClpJDS6rdjK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Falling Star main cast, so far. they really are a bunch of clowns. Asterin is exhausted, Callum wants Mcdonalds, Knell wants a black coffee, and Oriana is just happy to be here but she’ll take a chicky nuggy happy meal if they're stopping. You can catch up on Falling Star here!

#PrideBookstagram Day 29: Uwian and Akit: A Zine on Sexuality by various local creators⁣ •⁣ As you may have already noticed, most of the queer fiction I consume are mlm (for a good reason, LOL) but the past year I've been more conscious of getting stories representative of others in the spectrum. This month, I've managed to feature non-mlm stories for 13 days (almost half!) and today's post is about two collections of short comics with stories that show homosexuality beyond just gay men.⁣ •⁣ Uwian is a collection of wlw stories with varied interpretations of "coming home". My favorites are "Shift" by huli (second photo in the carousel) bec of its sweet simplicity and "Tadhana" by @hjuske bec, again, the simple and unfussed delivery of a v interesting meetcute hit me in the kokoro. 💕 The 12 pieces are arranged i think at random (?) and some have darker tones but for the most part these are fun and easy.⁣ •⁣ Akit is more heavy and the work really do shine light on identities that are not often represented in local media. The collection is a mix of one-shots, full-page artwork and on one instance, short prose. The diverse execution only enhances the diverse take on the navigating one's sexuality and ugh, I want more, longer!, content from each of the creators. :)⁣ •⁣ I'm finally caught up on my Pride Bookstagram posts! There's exactly 1 more post left and sigh, it feels so great to not be late for things for once. Book Review: Cover Story by Rachel Lacey
Hollywood starlet Natalie Keane hasn’t felt safe in 8 years, not since a stalker broke into her home and abducted her for 12 hours. She has built her home and life into a fortress, but when her stalker gets released from prison the little peace she’s gained is threatened. To create a distraction with the press she can control, and more importantly keep her safe, Natalie agrees to hire and fake a relationship with her bodyguard. Taylor Vaughn.
You may remember Taylor from Stars Collide, she was Eden’s Head of Security. Having recently been taken off active duty for a back injury she is itching to get back in the field. So even though fake a relationship and moving in with her protectee is a little unusual she is more than up to the task. If she is immediately attracted to Natalie, so what? She’s a professional, it is only three months.
Even though Natalie is an award winning actress her world is viewed through a very small lens. She goes to work, comes home, mostly avoids going out in public, and never invites anyone into her home. Even though the romantic tension between Taylor and Natalie is front and center in the story, the slow healing of Natalie’s trauma and the safety she feels with Taylor’s presence makes the connection feel real.
I really enjoyed this book. FYI: it is a lot less thriller than you may guess from the first few chapters.
SIDE NOTE: I NEED NOELLE’S SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE STORY PLEASE, THANKS!
