latino songs i relate to one piece characters and why!

PORTGAS D.ACE : SOU MUSA DO VERÃO - marshmello, luísa sonza

there's something about this song that makes me think of ace in the most... unhinged way. the main chorus is the thing that really stands out to me, because not only he would look gorgeous in a edit with that, it have the same hot energy that ace exhales. he is the kind of man we would see shirtless and imagine things that become a concern to feminism; and that song is exactly what we all, ace simps, want to say to him.

NAMI : ASSANHADINHA - pocah, mc durrony

nami gives the vibes of someone that does not care, period. she just does what she wants and is not afraid to own it too. i can definitely see this song on her playlist too, not only because of the way she relates to the lyrics, but also the beat itself. another big reason is simply: my girl likes to throw it back, and this is a great song to do it without problem.

NICO ROBIN : PILOTO - flora matos

i put piloto as robin's song, because 1. i ship her with franky; 2. she would totally be the type of person (the 'pilot') that is described in the song. careful? caring? loving? a good person? a scholar? pays attention? courageous? a mate? truthful? a armor bearer? if you need, dangerous? she is all of those things and much more. and that's why she will be forever the woman that holds my heart and she should hold yours too.

this one i will keep short and simple. a loooong time ago i saw a tiktok that had this song as a "sabo sounds like this" and i couldn't unhear it since (i cant find it again, im sorry); plus the lyrics match very very well. thats it. i cant elaborate further.

USOPP : PAPIN - mc kevin o chris, mc caja

the lyrics say everything i need to say: "fell for my talk, it's over". it's proven over and over again that usopp can lie to people easily, when he wants to. and, after the live action, i can't stop thinking about usopp trying to win you over with a sweet talk, his eyes and voice tone nervous, but so sweet it wins you over. plus, the song weirdly fits his vibe.

SANJI : RITA - tierry

i kinda refuse to explain this one, because it's almost a joke for myself, but i shall translate some of the lyrics (think that he's singing it to you): "oh love, come back. come back, love, and i will forgive the stabbing. oh, love, don't leave me alone, come back and i will pull out the charges."

DRACULE MIHAWK : ME RECLAMA - mambo kingz, dj luian, luigi 21 plus, ozuna

THIS SONG IS SO MIHAWK CODED, IT MAKES ME SICK. he knows he's the best, he always goes to you when you call him and he's not afraid to tell others that it's "not his fault he is the one you call for". his entire persona with this song in the background makes me shake, he would look extremely ethereal with his hand on your waist, pulling you closer, and his head tilted – all while his lips are whispering sweet spanish into your ear.

When you think about it, has the Thriller Bark formula happened any other time? Crocodile being a Shichibukai was incidental to him being the leader of Baroque Works and we didn't even have a grasp of what it meant at the time. Luffy was blasted to Amazon Lily where he ran afoul of Boa Hancock, which is close, but she wasn't someone Luffy actually had to defeat. The Pirate Alliance picked a fight with Doflamingo as part of Law's plan to topple Kaidou, but I guess it was kind of similar. Kuma only pretended to be an enemy, while Jinbei was an ally from the start. Mihawk is still just kind of there and by now the moment has passed anyway. It's like, Gecko Moria was the only time the Strawhats fell into the trap of a Shichibukai and had to fight for their lives against him and his legion of subordinates on his home turf. That is like the platonic ideal of a One Piece adventure.

Thriller Bark happened at basically the sweet spot of the story. The perfect balance of our level of knowledge about the world's machinations, the enemy's level of threat, and the Strawhat Pirates' level of strength. It couldn't happen now, the crew is too strong for there to be any real peril. Luffy would just instakill all the zombies on the island with one burst of conqueror's haki, which would incapacitate all of Moria's allies at the same time. Moria himself wouldn't be able to endure very many haki-infused strikes. In fact, if you're one of the fans who isn't that big on haki, this is the last arc before it was introduced. Before Sabaody, it was just that Shanks had a really intimidating glare.

Gecko Moria was right on the line between "some guy" and "genuine danger", he was the last stepping stone pirate before the absolute monsters waiting ahead in the New World. After all, if Mr. Zombie Apocalypse was too small of a fish for that pond, then what chance did Luffy have out there? Moria was basically a red flag that the Strawhats needed to get a lot stronger if they wanted to succeed where he devastatingly failed. Because for all the trouble he caused the protagonists, that wasn't even him at his peak. He was a traumatized shell of his former self who was out of practice and out of shape, which showed as soon as he had to fight in the Paramount War. Absalom's only use in a fight was his parlor trick of invisible weapons, Hogback was a complete non-combatant, and Perona was...shall we say...an Usopp opponent. In fact, current Usopp could probably solo Thriller Bark Luigi's Mansion style. But he couldn't back then, none of them could, and that's why it was enjoyable to watch.

I held a little pageant to find out who you guys wanted to see play dress-up. The options in the poll weren't even all the ideas I had but I decided to stick with one costume choice per group. The people you didn't vote for are:

We have Monkey D. Luffy as the one and only Mario, Zoro as Bowser, Nami as Princess Daisy, Usopp as Luigi, Sanji as King Prince Boo and Cora as Pauline! I know I originally listed her as Princess Peach, but I felt like Pauline suited her better in the end.

In this one, I took pictures of the crew from the One Piece Wiki (I used Nami as a base for Cora) to trace from and then went from there, sometimes editing the lineart to look more like the live action counterparts and of course adding the costumes. I intentionally used a rather choppy pen and made the coloring a little unclean to give the impression that these are sketches in Cora's sketchbook because she would have designed the costumes.

Games I think the strawhats would play and how I think they would play them (I didn't proofread this sorry):

LUFFY

Happy Wheels:

-He would be laughing constantly. He would think anything with this kind of physics is hilarious

-He would accidentally stay up until like 4am playing it and he'd laugh so loud that the crew wouldn't be able to sleep and would have to come down and physically drag him away from the computer

Stardew Valley:

-I don't really think he would care about or understand the plot, but I think he would manage to build an insane farming empire where he has billions of gold

-He has 1,500 hours on one save file and when the crew asked him about it, he said he was just trying to beat the game

-Nobody had the heart to tell Luffy that there is no ending to Stardew Valley

-Usopp just really loves adventure games. He likes that he gets to feel brave and strong in these games even when he doesn't irl

-His fav games would be The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, and Pokemon Legends Arceus

-Had so much fun with the unique weapons in Skyward Sword and definitely took inspiration from them when creating his own

-Loves the crafting aspects of BotW and Arceus.

-Dedicated to completing the Pokedex and getting 100% on ALL tasks. Chopper asked to play with him and Usopp just gave him an unplugged controller. Chopper was just so happy to be playing with Usopp that he didn't even realize that he wasn't doing anything. Classic lil brother

-It's like Stardew but with zombies, alchemy, cannibalism, and the middle ages. I feel like the spooky aspect is more than intriguing enough

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

-Robin is actually so good at Majora's Mask. She's played through it so many times that she could speed run it, but instead she chooses to 100% it every single time

-She loves it for the lore and the music more than anything

-Franky, Luffy, and Usopp love to watch her play it, because she always talks about the lore in detail and the boys love the story telling

-Franky cries everytime he watches her play it bc of all the depressing storylines. He wanted to learn more about the game on his own, so he could chat with Robin about it, but the first piece of "research" he came across was Ben Drowned and he thought it was real, so he tries to suggest that Robin plays other games instead because he's scared it'll happen to her

Animal Crossing New Horizons:

-He's so used to feeling like the animal among the humans, so he enjoys being the human among the animals

-He mainly just wants to befriend everyone

-He like that Tom Nook and the nooklings are actually Tanuki, so that way NOBODY will get him confused for one - even though he plays a human in this

Any of the pregnant Elsa doctor games:

-Chopper just feels like these are good practice for him so he doesn't forget any of the medical techniques he's learned

-Robin has to frequently remind him that that's not the purpose of the game

Luigi's Mansion 3

-This is Chopper's favorite "horror" game

-He gets so scared every time a ghost jumps out

-Always runs and hides from the ghosts instead of vacuuming them up

-Had Usopp fight all the boss battles for him because he's too scared

He's also spent a ton of money on all of his discord kittens. Most of which are just Nami and her alts. At least he's happy?

Reading One Piece pt 134: Video Games Plague My Brain

Chapter 369

Thoughts:

- Our chapter begins with scolding from CP9. They heard of our three musketeers and are not amused

- That is a video game, wagons are like levels and Robin is Princess Peach

- “One of them is wearing a lame mask” the disrespect. They just don’t feel The Sogeking

- “They want to take back Nico Robin, right?” yeah but does Robin want to be taken

- “That will never happen” keep that ugly smirk and you’ll get on my list of Worst Villains, Lucci. As it stands now, I don’t want you there, go and be forgotten

- Meanwhile our Mario, Luigi and Waluigi are dealing (poorly) with Ramen Snots Cook. Yes, Usopp is Waluigi here

- Oh no, they split up

- Cook vs Cook. Gordon Ramsay vs Guy Fieri. Battle of 2020

- “Super weak? Even my dad wouldn’t say that to me!” damn, Snot Cook, I’m sorry for your family situation, hope it’ll get better

- “I was distracted by your curly eyebrow…” going for a kill I see

- Eh, they can handle it. Franky time!

- Franky will fight with Nero from 3rd wagon

- Nero is a sea weasel and new in town

- Franky used Street Smarts! It’s Super Effective!

I’m glad! I was worried Usopp will have to try and fight CP9 by himself. He was beaten up enough in this arc, give him a break.
