This is another creative sample I wanted to experiment with based on Mexicans Los Muertos make up they wear to respect the dead.
I wanted to further develop my skills and see what I can do to create a similar aspect based on Mexico traditions with the skull aesthetic make up.
To construct this textiles sample, I first choose a portrait photo of a woman and print this using the digital printer,on a black A4 size fabric.Once it was all printed off and dry, then I could start the embroidery techniques. I chose a few designs I could do on the face and improvised from a vision of mine to build a detailed and textile effect bringing this sample to life.I chose different bright colours to outline all the details and filled them in with colour by using an embroidery hoop to sustain it and not come loose.once all the details were added I went over and outlined them in black.
When I got to the teeth, I had to move fast and carefully to not go over the lines and ruin the shape. Although once I have filled them in, there was too much thread gathering and harder for the needle to go through. I finished them with the same technique for the first row and decided to try something different for the bottom teeth to see what would cooperate better. I thought of using puff binding for the teeth as it was easier for me to sew on around with lack after drying it off.
My last step was to add the 3D marigold flowers to add the last touches.I used the same method of hand stitching and some in the machine. Sewing them in the middle and twisting them around till I get the shape I wanted.
Overall this was an interesting sample I got to finish and experience the new skills with materials I could combine and build together to create something amazing based on Mexico’s traditions.I think this would be a very eye catching print on my final designs as I could interpret this as a similar textiles technique.
so I've been looking up advice about hand embroidering on velvet for a project idea I had and I just found an article that was ABSOLUTELY written via AI because, well
My current project: an elven dress for Idril Celebrindal made from lavender crushed velvet and silver silk dupion. I wanted to make an elven dress of one of Arwen's ancestors. So the style is recognisable from the movies, but I had a different character in mind when designing it. Also I've done a lot of burgundy red gowns lately, so I wanted to use more spring like colours. The combination of lavender and silver feels very elvish to me. And as is my usual style I added lots of embroidery, both hand- and machine embroidery. I plan to make a lavender embroidered cape as well, but I ran out of fabric.
This sample has an important meaning to the Japan citizens. I was inspired by the Japanese drawings and pictures of the blossom tree and thought of creating my own to present my research pages with.
Using my textiles and artistic skills,I wanted to experiment with some different techniques using hand and machine embroidery to show how they would look like together. The cotton pads were an extra material added that I thought would look more effective together with the bright pink beads stitched on.
To create this sample, I selected my two materials and chose a plain white fabric to put under the clear detailed fabric. I stuck them together and ironed them so they do not come loose. Then I sketched out lightly the branch in pencil where I need to sew and used the domestic machine to go over with brown and finish the branches. To add more realistic tones, I used a lighter brown to go over the brown showing the textures of the branches. I then moved onto the cotton balls and stuck them down to the fabric lightly as I want them to look 3D. After that, I used hand embroidery with French knots technique to add more texture in this sample before adding the beads.
Overall I am pleased with this sample and it looks exactly how I wanted it to look by using multiple techniques in one to show development and experimentation throughout.
I think this technique would be very effective on garments and the rest of my designs and this would be a good sample to repete in the future on my designs. although I would change the steps of the techniques around to make this easier by putting the needle trough the material.
I've sewn together two of the completed butterfly embroidery kits my grandmother gave me for my birthday this year into a very small pillow!
I'm thinking of someday crocheting a tiny couch for my cats and putting this on it as decoration. :3
Close up, you can tell which part of the seam is made with the sewing machine back there and which part was closed up by hand. I have this terrible habit of finishing projects while I feel overwhelmed and tired regardless of the quality decline that causes...
But it's not too bad. I really just need more sewing experience!
Do you embroider by hand? I've been embroidering my clothes for a couple years now, but i stuggle to make anything that has the level of clean/flat finish you do on your designs
Oh gosh absolutely not haha, I work with embroidery companies! Embroidery is a labor of love and an awesome art form keep up with it!!!
