In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts? 

nero comes from a rich old money background that holds a lot of value in tradition, and as much as nero THINKS he's straying from the idea of the person his parents want him to be, he's been so heavily steeped in this lifestyle since birth that his idea of "rebelling against his parents" is not taking up the mantle of the family name and instead becoming a doctor (god forbid). also because of his family and foster parent's stress on the importance of seals and having a seal (essentially, in the world of sandbox, a magic power unique to each person that everyone has), he holds a lot of shame in not having/being able to use a seal, which leads into his initial motivation of finding apollo to help him trigger it, even though seals effectively mean nothing in modern day society

[Stevie sits up slowly, the mixed scents of pizza, sweat, and weed only makes her more nauseous. The world spins endlessly, she can’t hold on.] ?: Look who’s finally awake. ?: I’ll just cut to the chase. We’re kicking you out of the band. [Stevie remains quiet. She’s worried she might throw up if she opens her mouth.] ?: It’s the third show you’ve missed because you were too fucking wasted to care. You’re a good bass player, but not good enough for us to put up with your shit. Get the fuck out once you can stand. [Somewhere deep and dark inside of her, she feels crushed. But on the surface, the parts of her she's revealed to the world, she remains a perfect picture of indifference.]

[Birds chirp, car doors slam, people rush by Stevie as she wanders through the early morning streets. She can’t stomach delving into the rush hour subway, and maybe the fresh air will do her some good. She walks on, aimless, the rising sun is no cure for the cold blood running through her veins.]

[Stevie pauses, realizing where exactly in the city she had wandered towards. The mouth of the beast, open and inviting, ready to tear her to pieces all over again. She didn’t even know the gig she was supposed to play last night was this close to his—] Stevie, mumbling: Don't be fucking weird.

[But her thoughts are intrusive, unavoidable. Detestable. It's so damn pathetic she can't stand it. She wonders how Jude is doing. Is he sleeping right now? Is he aware of how she feels? Does he still — But why the fuck should he care? For all she knows he's — moved on. The thought makes her feel sick again. She has no right to even be standing here.]

[Stevie gets ten steps away before turning back to stare at Jude's apartment building in utter distaste. She's been good, the meaning of that word muddied down to her own version of it.  Avoiding this place had been so easy, so why now? Why, when she could've just gone home?] Stevie: Shit, I need a drink.

Happy day-after simblr appreciation day!

Last night, I started working on tagging simblrs that I'm inspired by and simblrs that I'm always happy to see interacting with my posts in some way. And these two circles are basically one and the same (so thanks, friends!) Tumblr wouldn't let me tag all of you in one post, so I had to split it up in two. Also, I'm going off memory so I'm sure there are people I'm forgetting but know that if I follow you, I appreciate you and the talent and enthusiasm you've shared with this community.

As some of you may remember, I took a break from simblr in the spring of this year. My personal life went from an all-time high to an all-time low by the time summer rolled in. Grief engulfed nearly every aspect of my life to the point where I felt like I was putting on my brave-face mask out in the "real world". I returned to this game and this community as an escape -- a distraction from the loss that seemed so prominent. But every time I played this game, or scrolled through tumblr and caught up with people's stories and gameplay, I felt like the grief was less noticeable even just temporarily.

There's the analogy of grief as a bouncing ball in a closed box. The box has a pain button inside of it and in the immediate aftermath of the loss, the ball takes up the entire space of the box, triggering the intense emotions associated with grief. As time goes on, the ball gets smaller and the ball doesn't always press on that pain button. This game and the simblr community helped make that ball feel smaller in the immediate aftermath of my loss. And I know it sounds kind of silly, but when you're confronted with something so unimaginable that you can't even begin to process, you can't belittle anything that helps you cope or brings you peace.

So that's why I'm so thankful for having this space to share our pixels and stories. Seeing the creativity as I scroll through my dashboard, I'm constantly inspired by how we all turn this game into our own little escape (even when we deliberately cause chaos for our sims -- better them than us, am I right?). I wish everyone good health and happiness in the new year, and I can't wait to see what you all bring to the dash in 2024.

I just wanted to give extra love to some of the very kind and talented mutuals I've made during my first year on Simblr. I never thought when I started this blog I'd get to know so many of you. You've made me feel like a part of the community through your engagement and encouragement and your own content, which continually inspires and amazes me!
