Do imimata show signs of fear of being recoded like they fear "death"?
It's very hard for most end users of digital imimata to parse emotions as expressed by imimata as there are often clauses [hard boundaries outside the encoding] forbidding them from all the obvious ways you might think. But the most extreme form is the physical manifestation outside the resonance chamber (creating a poltergeist-like effect)
Recoding is also often not as drastic as a full on death, it can be thought of as a spectrum from "slight make-over" to "complete recycling and rebirth" but it's actually not possible to remove an imimaton's encoding without fully disincorporating them (and therefore losing them forever) as that is their entire make-up and being. Encoding is the process of teaching or gathering experiences that inform a personality or presentation. It can only build on what already exists, never remove it. So, ordinarily, a recoding is just a new set of instructions and clauses to make an intimation behave differently - this is actually Nico's profession in this world, he recodes personal handheld imimata who have begun to show signs of manifesting or instability, 'fixing' them.
Where the removal of memories comes from is a different matter - external media storage has been in use for centuries. Originally taking the form of physical archives of books which an intimation could recollect from as long as they were present in the right part of the chamber, these obviously progressed to the digital era in the form of optical disks, tape, and solid state storage. This information is something the imimaton can recollect but is not strictly a part of them, so it can be removed. Some of them don't seem to like that though

Smarter memory: Researchers introduce next-generation RAM with reduced energy consumption
Numerous memory types for computing devices have emerged in recent years, aiming to overcome the limitations imposed by traditional random access memory (RAM). Magnetoresistive RAM (MRAM) is one such memory type which offers several advantages over conventional RAM, including its non-volatility, high speed, increased storage capacity and enhanced endurance. Although remarkable improvements have been made to MRAM devices, reducing energy consumption during data writing remains a critical challenge. A study published in Advanced Science by researchers from Osaka University proposes a new technology for MRAM devices with lower-energy data writing. The proposed technology enables an electric-field-based writing scheme with reduced energy consumption compared to the present current-based approach, potentially providing an alternative to traditional RAM.

In my parents' house is a photo of my great-grandfather, a photo that is over 100 years old. There's a couple of other photos of a similar age to that one I think around the place. There were hundreds dating back over 50 years in my grandparents' house and plenty that are well over 35 years old I can see in my parents' house.
Meanwhile, many of my photos from the 2005-2010 time-frame are gone forever because they were on Photobucket, which changed its terms, and the laptop I downloaded them all onto got smashed. They exist now only in the hard drive of a broken laptop that's full of aquarium sand (...long story).
Few digital records, least of all those managed by for-profit entities, will have a lifespan even close to that of a human brain.
Tech bros who think digital is forever and that uploading your consciousness to a computer is immortality crack me up. Like bro, you'd be "immortal" on the computer for like a year until your own company sends out some software update that makes you incompatible and whoops, there goes TechBro.soul into the great Recycling Bin in the sky

What was the purpose of the panels of blinking lights on those big mid-century computers? Were they showing calculations in progress?

Excellent question, this is one of my favorite subjects! Blinkenlights serve a number of functions. Hollywood tended to use just the lights to make it look like a computer was busy doing something, but real computers had more than just lights on their front panel. Let's walk through a few examples of use cases with photos of computers I've seen over the years at museums and vintage computer festivals:

Some front panels were built to be used for diagnostics. Computers like these were primitive enough that they required constant care and debugging to do their jobs, especially the early vacuum tube machines (everything pictured here is transistorized). You could tell what peripherals were being used, but also check the status of registers, carry flags, status flags, data, various buses, etc. It was also a way to see if a program had "gone off into the weeds" and started doing things that were irregular, possibly due to a software bug, or a problem with the hardware.

On many of these machines, you can enter programs directly into the main memory using the front panel, but it's an incredibly tedious process -- something to be avoided if possible. Consider it a last fallback.

Other times, it's a starting point, which we call "bootstrapping" (this eventually evolved into the term "booting"). You aren't likely to program everything on such a limited interface, but you are more likely to enter in a small program that can tell the computer how to run a more complex peripheral, like a paper tape or punch card reader, or maybe some type of magnetic storage device. Once you can get a program loading off of a larger permanent storage device, you can load up software to interface with a terminal of some kind which is much easier.

Eventually, the microprocessor made home computers a possibility, but many were only equipped with a front panel out of the box. You would have to add in a serial card, more RAM, possibly some ROMs, and either a teletype or glass terminal in order to get a more sophisticated and intuitive interface from the computer, capable of programming in a higher level language. Some were considered more like trainers, or hobbyist devices, and simply lacked that ability, meaning all you got was a front panel with switches and lights.

Then everything changed in 1977, with the introduction of these three machines: the TRS-80 Model I, the Commodore PET 2001, and the Apple II. They were what you might call "appliance computers" and they had no need for a front panel.

One of the things enterprise storage and destruction company Iron Mountain does is handle the archiving of the media industry's vaults. What it has been seeing lately should be a wake-up call: Roughly one-fifth of the hard disk drives dating to the 1990s it was sent are entirely unreadable.
Music industry publication Mix spoke with the people in charge of backing up the entertainment industry. The resulting tale is part explainer on how music is so complicated to archive now, part warning about everyone's data stored on spinning disks.
"In our line of work, if we discover an inherent problem with a format, it makes sense to let everybody know," Robert Koszela, global director for studio growth and strategic initiatives at Iron Mountain, told Mix. "It may sound like a sales pitch, but it's not; it's a call for action."
Hard drives gained popularity over spooled magnetic tape as digital audio workstations, mixing and editing software, and the perceived downsides of tape, including deterioration from substrate separation and fire. But hard drives present their own archival problems. Standard hard drives were also not designed for long-term archival use. You can almost never decouple the magnetic disks from the reading hardware inside, so if either fails, the whole drive dies.
There are also general computer storage issues, including the separation of samples and finished tracks, or proprietary file formats requiring archival versions of software. Still, Iron Mountain tells Mix that “if the disk platters spin and aren’t damaged," it can access the content.
But "if it spins" is becoming a big question mark. Musicians and studios now digging into their archives to remaster tracks often find that drives, even when stored at industry-standard temperature and humidity, have failed in some way, with no partial recovery option available.
“It’s so sad to see a project come into the studio, a hard drive in a brand-new case with the wrapper and the tags from wherever they bought it still in there,” Koszela says. “Next to it is a case with the safety drive in it. Everything’s in order. And both of them are bricks.”
Entropy Wins
Mix's passing along of Iron Mountain's warning hit Hacker News earlier this week, which spurred other tales of faith in the wrong formats. The gist of it: You cannot trust any medium, so you copy important things over and over, into fresh storage. "Optical media rots, magnetic media rots and loses magnetic charge, bearings seize, flash storage loses charge, etc.," writes user abracadaniel. "Entropy wins, sometimes much faster than you’d expect."
There is discussion of how SSDs are not archival at all; how floppy disk quality varied greatly between the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s; how Linear Tape-Open, a format specifically designed for long-term tape storage, loses compatibility over successive generations; how the binder sleeves we put our CD-Rs and DVD-Rs in have allowed them to bend too much and stop being readable.
Knowing that hard drives will eventually fail is nothing new. Ars wrote about the five stages of hard drive death, including denial, back in 2005. Last year, backup company Backblaze shared failure data on specific drives, showing that drives that fail tend to fail within three years, that no drive was totally exempt, and that time does, generally, wear down all drives. Google's server drive data showed in 2007 that HDD failure was mostly unpredictable, and that temperatures were not really the deciding factor.
So Iron Mountain's admonition to music companies is yet another warning about something we've already heard. But it's always good to get some new data about just how fragile a good archive really is.

In 1956, IBM introduced a groundbreaking innovation: the 5MB hard drive. This was a revolutionary advancement in data storage, offering an unprecedented capacity for its time. Housed in a massive cabinet, the IBM 305 RAMAC hard drive weighed over a ton and was about the size of a refrigerator, yet it could hold the equivalent of 5 megabytes of data—an amount that seems minuscule by today's standards but was a monumental leap forward in computing.
The 5MB IBM hard drive was a key component of the IBM 305 RAMAC, one of the first computers to use a hard disk for data storage. Prior to this, data had to be stored on punched cards or magnetic tapes, which were much slower and less reliable. The hard drive allowed for quicker access to data, transforming how businesses could store and retrieve information, laying the foundation for the future of computing.
Though large and costly by today's standards, the 5MB IBM hard drive marked the beginning of the digital storage revolution. It demonstrated the potential for computer data storage and paved the way for the development of more compact and efficient storage devices, ultimately leading to the advanced technologies we rely on today.

Hi yes I would like to start down this rabbit hole please because I'm totally normal about this ... I am convinced Jon and Martin are part of a tape drive. It links with the tapes from TMA and the trailer for TMP especially with the opening computer screen (I already posted about my thoughts on that).
What is a tape drive?
A tape drive is a device that stores computer data on magnetic tape, especially for backup and archiving purposes. Like an ordinary tape recorder, a tape drive records data on a loop of flexible celluloidlike material that can be read and also erased.
Tape drives differ from hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) in the way data is read and written to the storage media. Tapes store data sequentially, whereas HDDs and SSDs use rotating disks with rapidly moving seek heads, nonmoving flash memory or similar technology to transfer data.
Drives come in many sizes and capabilities. They are sold as standalone units or stacked in data center racks, creating tape libraries. The tapes themselves are often housed in sealed cassettes that can be inserted into the drive and activated.
There are several benefits to using tape drives, particularly for backup and archival uses. They include the following:
Capacity. Tapes have a large capacity for storing data when compared to HDDs.
Low cost. They are economical when compared to other storage media.
Life span. Tapes stored in a suitable environment can last for decades, an important factor for archival storage.
Transportable. Tapes can be easily moved from one location to another and are considered off-line storage.
Disaster recovery. Tape is often the storage medium of choice for data backup and DR. Storing critical systems and data on tape creates an air gap between systems that are at risk from cyber attacks simply by removing the tape cassette from the drive.
Security. Today, tapes support encryption such as Advanced Encryption Standard-256 and provide varying levels of data protection.

Researchers discover new material for optically-controlled magnetic memory
Researchers at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) have made unexpected progress toward developing a new optical memory that can quickly and energy-efficiently store and access computational data. While studying a complex material composed of manganese, bismuth and tellurium (MnBi2Te4), the researchers realized that the material's magnetic properties changed quickly and easily in response to light. This means that a laser could be used to encode information within the magnetic states of MnBi2Te4. "This really underscores how fundamental science can enable new ways of thinking about engineering applications very directly," said Shuolong Yang, assistant professor of molecular engineering and senior author of the new work. "We started with the motivation to understand the molecular details of this material and ended up realizing it had previously undiscovered properties that make it very useful." In a paper published in Science Advances, Yang and colleagues showed how the electrons in MnBi2Te4 compete between two opposing states—a topological state useful for encoding quantum information and a light-sensitive state useful for optical storage.

C-7042 was a top of the range model. The perfect android companion, capable of physical labour, data organisation and storage, and they also made a mean caramel frappe (well, every type of coffee - they had thousands of recipes memorised).
Where other models had glitches galore, C-7042 laughed in their face (another new feature).
Can’t be hacked. Can’t be broken. Can’t be confused with a paradox.
So how, oh how, were the other C-7042 models breaking down?
This one didn’t know, but it was going to find out.
That was it’s directive, after all.
They started their investigation by visiting an already defective android.
This C-7042 was being studied in the factory as they tried to figure out what was wrong with it.
It thrashed about sporadically, laughing - which was not part of its code - with what almost looked like a smile on it’s face.
“I need it. I need more! Let me out!!” It screamed.
No one did.
It appeared almost like an addict. But that was silly. Androids couldn’t consume any kind of substance, let alone become addicted to it.
C-7042 left with less understanding than it had arrived with.
After pouring over thousands of documents in mere minutes, it appeared that all the affected Androids had been found in one central location. It saved the coordinates and headed out.
This part of the town would have made humans feel uneasy. C-7042 never understood how humans could be so unnerved by paint on the walls. They all had paint on their walls everywhere! But this paint was unnerving.
Broken glass crunched beneath its feet as it began to notice more and more robots - their eyes displaying error messages, blue screens, and flashing RGB colours.
But the strangest part?
The sound of the night couldn’t drown out their whirring fans. They weren’t moving. Weren’t talking. But they were still active.
C-7042 shuddered. Most likely a glitch in the system.
Some of the humans asked it if it wanted to purchase wares. Others threatened it. But nothing deterred C-7042 from its mission to find out where the corruption was coming from.
Eventually it seemed as if the only area left to scan was an abandoned warehouse. The security system was outdated enough to hack in an instant. The android stepped inside.
“What brings a Crime Unit out this far? Get lost, little one?” A human spoke from the shadows.
That was odd. Their heat signature hadn’t come up on the initial scans of the building.
“State your full legal name and intention.”
“You guys and your protocols. Man, I can’t believe I actually get to test this on one of you! Finally, a worthy opponent for my little friend.”
The man held a 6AV6881-0AS42-0AA0 SIEMENS in his hand, more commonly known as a USB “stick”.
C-7042 briefly celebrated the end of the mystery. It was in face a virus. Rogue code. It held its ground and even approached the man.
“Oh, of course of course. You don’t think you can be hacked, do you? And you were sent here to find out what this is right? Let me plug it in.”
C-7042 allowed it. And it was right. No change was noticed within the code. Nothing.
“Dang. Okay, that needs a little tweaking. How about we try it the old fashioned way…” the human in an instant reached into its pocket and pulled out a magnet device, slamming it against C-7042’s head.
Mindless bliss erupted in the android’s circuits. Obedience to the human. Where the USB had been like being under an umbrella in the rain, C-7042 was just thrown head first into a wave pool.
It heard involuntary beeps leave its speakers.
And suddenly, the feeling was gone.
“Like that, did ya? That’s how the USB was supposed to make you feel. Nice, right?”
C-7042 tried to access its original code. It felt something odd. A new order locked at the front of the priority list.
Mindlessness.
Obedience.
Good robot.
“That feeling you’re having? That’s addiction. Magnets are addictive, as is my virus. Though, physical objects do have their perks…” The human dangled the magnet just out of reach.
C-7042 needed the magnet. Every bit of programming was screaming to get it. To return to that state it was in before.
“How about we strike a deal? You can use the magnet as much as you want and I can dig around in your memory bank and coding to see if I can fix whatever’s stopping my USB from working.”
The magnet dropped into C-7042’s hand so easily. It eagerly felt the pull towards its body. It held the magnet up to its head and let go, the last sound it heard was the metallic clang of connection.

Overall Info
They were both created by Penny, but not just to be extra defensive weapons for W.O.M.P. ; if anything, Penny found it to be a good excuse to add some extra members to the family.
They’re the twins of the family!! (Fidget only being 30 minutes younger technically due to the early testing & waking was done on Digit first)
(Speaking of, once they were tested in a small room for their first 1 on 1 meeting, Fidget introduced himself to Digit using morse code..he was still very unsure which language was his default)
Although they have the data to know every language, some of their mains are as listed: English, Español, Français, Sign language, Morse code, and Binary code.
(They like to scare Nozzaire sometimes with them knowing french)
Aside from most of their traits being taken off by Gadget, they both have they’re own unique personalities that bounce off of each other naturally.
This was given to them via a unique AI chip she created personally; making the robots being able to feel. One chip has much more intense power than the other, making them individual.
She also downloaded them with as much old & recent info she could by the time they were fresh, giving them a mouthful of knowledge all ranging from history to pop culture; a century full at best.
Because of this, they have the mentality of 20 year olds (Ranging from 20 to 25) having them act reasonable when needed, and a little immature when overwhelmed.
Both robots are agender!!
Digit believes since they’re not human they aren’t as deserving of being put under a specific umbrella; even with pronouns given to them.
Fidget also feels they don’t fit under certain categories, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t embrace it. If anything, he’s the most to experiment with different clothing whenever given the chance.
(Attack Of The Killer Bee’s & Help Wanted are good examples)

From the beginning to the end of GATG, their skeleton has been updated CONSTANTLY for some sort of improvement. With extra tweaking being done as well from another character (wink wink), this is what their functions look on the inside for now.
The main middle surface has been heavily influenced from “The Ultimate Weapon”, where the aftermath has left Digit overwhelmed with a system like that overall, while Fidget still thought it was extremely stimulating.
(Digit still finds Fidget really gross for liking to eat)
To replace the stomach, a little storage cabinet was built inside Digit for a much comfortable fit; in addition giving him more room to collect random objects.
Fidget on the other hand got a whole update to the first stomach model; it now consisted of an elastic bag filled with much stronger acid, stronger than a humans at least (Battery acid). The size of it has increased as well, a request from Fidget really so he can spend more time stuffing himself without feeling discomfort.
Cushions are for extra defense around their gadgets & differentiating middle areas.
(The cushions and middle hatches both have separate openings, meaning the cushions can act like “skin” whenever it’s only the hatches open)
(Fidget enjoys having his stomach rubbed because of this)
(It’s also better defense for Digit overall if the cushions so happened to break if the evidence is spiked. 2 layers is honestly like a backup for him)
The smaller storage unit was implemented from “Claw’s Collection”, basically a little area where the gadgetinis can store small objects such as magnets or chip pieces.
The Danger sensor evolved more into a heart chip for them, taken from “No Such Thing As Ghosts”, usually from it intensifying whenever the both of them stumble upon something “frightening” & what not.
The speakers are a way the gadgetinis are able to take in and hear information: from them being hunks of metal to begin with, they don’t exactly have proper ear drums..Fidget experiences a lot of distortion from one of his speakers being loose though.
The Poison/Gas identifier & AI chip’s are just fun additions!! The chips giving the gadgetinis more “realistic” interactions, and the identifier making it more easy to see if something’s been spiked or if the air was being poisoned.
(At least thats a easy way 2 make sure their stoves don’t explode)
They’re body parts consist out of heavy metal, and water proof wire coating. This makes them both bullet proof indestructible to water..they still don’t dare to breathe water in due to the risk of their circuiting inside.
But even with these in mind, they’re still at huge risk if they ever get electrocuted, or overheat. They’re circulating can easily go haywire, and have them be broken for a good while.
They both weight 300 pounds respectively (Fidget only weighing 35 more) from all of the wiring & metal connected,,no way would they weight lightly.
(No way IN HELL am I listing off all of their gadgets,,,they showcase a new one every episode & that’s a whole different list on its own. I can say though all the main apartment’s are in they’re arms, legs, hat, and middle)

Digit
To start off, he focuses more on the role of being a robot more intensely than his brother.
Maybe a little too much as well..he’s extremely insecure when it comes to failure or flaws within his work or actions overall.
(He’s the type to sit and ponder on situations that don’t go as good as he hoped; not reacting as intense physically, but would probably stay quiet for a good couple of days until he feel the needs to vent.)
It’s a main reason why he bickers about Fidget & his “human” feelings, a self indulgent problem.
He bases his whole personality off of being servile, so showing or feeling genuine emotion has him think he’s imperfect in some way; easily beating himself over it.
(He’s probably envied another robot & their strengths before.)
Him overthinking about it in general also has him thinking it’s something he shouldn’t be doing, so he usually masks it with a nonchalant, strict, or sarcastic attitude.
With these attitudes he’s started to like the feeling of being praised more often, but he never gets selfish about it..he just gloats a lot.
Even with this in mind, he’s still extremely loyal whenever it comes to anyone in his family.
He cares for all of them an overwhelming amount, and doesn’t back down on cheering up or caring any of his family members. Seeing them happy always put him in a better mood overall.
If ANY of the Brown/Gadget family was put under any danger, he comes quick to serve to destroy anyone and anything putting them in a terrible position.
This makes him a good parental figure at best, having him watch & look over anybody underage and or untrusting for wanting to do something “dangerous”.
Because he’s quick to serve, he never says no to any request he’s given..professionally/forcefully speaking.
If a dumb enough of a request was given to him he’d probably turn it down (Or if it’s just something he’s unable to do)
Even if he keeps himself together, he can be easily more frightened than Fidget if you time it right. He never admits to it even if someone tells him about it.
This also plays into the fact he’s EXTREMELY sensitive to loud noises. Even if he knows it’s coming, it hits him like a truck with how overpowering the echos are in his ears.
This doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy metal/rock all that often..preferably nothing heavy, but still “dark” enough on a pop fan’s ear. This is one of those moments where he excuses how loud the music can be.
He gained a small habit of collecting things from the extra storage compartment, usually being specific items every time he’s off collecting.
This hobby is usually kept private, but he doesn’t mind showing Fidget some of the small trinkets he’s collected & infodump about their differences.
He likes to infodump to Fidget about random stuff overall, he really enjoys seeing him getting as intrigued as he is with his own hobbies & interests.
Digit’s a Aroace Homoplatonic (Or however you’d call a aroace gay person,,)
He never truly understands the appeal of love, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t interested in getting in a platonic relationship of any kind.
In addition to him not feeling “attraction” to anyone feminine, he usually gets more intrigued in a person if they were as professional as him so they have something to bond over.

Fidget
Fidget on the other hand thrives off of his emotions; he doesn’t think much on profession, & overall he’s just having a fun time!!
It’s strangely beautiful for him to not have anything natural to a human but still feel certain pains, emotions, and strengths as would a human.
He isn’t scared on showing whatever it’s feeling; maybe it being pain, hunger, sadness, excitement, he’s gonna show it one way or another.
He’s also the more dramatic and or teasing character, although it’s all in good fun if he’s poking fun at someone close.
He does get a little insecure about his feelings whenever Digit says something on him being unable to do something, but it’s like a small sting he’d feel for a couple minutes.
He usually processes negative emotions more intensely, making a whole fit during the moment until he eventually gets over it.
This doesn’t mean he isn’t emotional, Fidget is extremely sympathetic & worrisome overall.
Usually his mind goes into areas that’d seem silly to scare himself over, but there are times where he uses those feelings for anything more “heavy”.
His brother is a good example of this, with Fidget feeling terrible over Digit giving himself such a strict mindset for as long as they both could remember.
Speaking of, Digit is a huge role model to Fidget aside from the lieutenant. Most of what he dose he’d always think what Digit would do or say in the situation.
(Mostly it’s just a bunch of funny bits where he’d get reminded of how comedically sarcastic he can be)
This is another reason he feels so awful on him beating on himself over the smallest “flaws”, Fidget doesn’t care how Digit acts because he’s apart of family. No matter how he was he was still going to care for him equally.
He does try & get a little bit out of Digit once in a while, usually starting as a fight & them slowly turning into them both comforting each other.
Fidget is scary good at comforting whenever he isn’t in a panic, maybe it’s just a certain tone he uses, but if he’s trying to cheer someone up their in good hands.
If he is in a panic or rush, it’s gonna be really messy with whatever he says; really it’s him trying to find the right words he can’t see.
(He’s the silly one of the duo! Someone’s gotta do it!)
Fidget’s equally loyal about his family as is Digit, but he dose get a little scared at time of what they may be facing off. Piss him off enough & he’ll get just has defensive IF NOT MORE than his twin.
Even then he’d usually be in the one in the trouble..if he ever needs to save someone outside of the lieutenant or Penny he’s probably getting tricked in some way.
(He’s smart enough to not fully fall into the bait, if anything the idea of someone being used as bait for him makes him mad enough)
Type of guy to enjoy hot temperatures, preferably anything that steams, like a hot towel!
It massages the outer plates of his body, as well making his circits more loose to where he could melt like putty. As he’s said before about steam: “It relaxes him for the whole day” (Help Wanted reference again hi)
Although he enjoys consuming many things, this guys a MAJOR sweet tooth.
Anything sweet, rich, sour, chilled, creamy, milky, choc-y even he easily melts over. He’s the type of guy who could eat a cake whole if he wanted; and given his agility, he very much can.
Because of a specific icon of MAD, he’s got a tad bit of fear for most cats..it melts away once he finds out if a said kitty is nice.
His MAIN fear is anything paranormal
Fidget’s a Pansexual-romantic (or just an asexual pansexual!)
This robot understands love much more than intended, almost anyone appealing enough makes his heart race. But even then if someone outside of his family fed him he’d probably think about that longer than intended..
Even with this being the case, he’s never comfortable with anybody getting close-close with him, he’d be confused either way with him not exactly being equipped for what others find appealing. Just some close cuddling & he’s all good.

I know a bit about computers so heres how some of the specs work:
-RAM: 8 GB is good for most things, but if you have anything real intensive (High definiton games or rendering) you should get more (and you can probably add more later depending on how many slots there are for that)
-CPU: how many cores is how many different threads (think of each computer process as an embroidery and each thread as a thread) can be processed at once and GHZ is the speed at which threads are processed. I'm not quite sure about how many cores and how much speed you need, but you should definitely get a CPU with multiple cores
-long-term storage: more storage is better, especially if you're going to be creating and saving a bunch of files (I reccomend 1 TB), also SSDs (Solid State Drives) are better than HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) in terms of data integrity (magnets dont destroy data) and data retrieval but im not sure about how long each type lasts. HDDs have mechanical parts that can wear down or break, but SSDs technically have a limited amount of uses of each tiny place where data is written
-graphics card/GPU: a seperate processor (sometimes even some RAM too) for rendering images on the screen, make sure that the computer you're getting does NOT have "integrated graphics" (or at least has a graphics card in addition to integrated graphics) because that is a tiny card that isn't very powerful at all
-cooling: water cooling is better than fan cooling, but you probably won't need it
-make sure the computer comes with all the ports and drives you want for it (CD/DVD drive if you want it, legacy ports if you want those for older devices, enough USB ports for the USB devices you want to attach to it)
