Eldritch Kidnappings

hmmmm a Kon/Danny/Tim idea? Maybe? Depends if anyone wanna ship all three but leaving it open ended (or if Tim is already dating Bernard just make it a Kon/Danny only?). AND a deaged Ellie.

Red Robin and Superboy (the original) were at a JL meeting. It was boring to be honest. Nothing to much was happening besides the normal stuff for all the heroes there. No big crises or world/universe ending danger.

Or at least it was...

Because not soon after a glowing green portal ripped opened and a large eldritch creature stuck its huge head and half of its body out. Every hero there went on high alert and into fighting stances, ready to defend the Watchtower. Once the creature was halfway in the room its eyes snapped opened, glowing near Lazarus Pit green colored but like brighter? neon?, and darted around the room before stopping right on Superboy.

Without warning or words the creature quickly reached out, using at first two arms/hands before more sprang out and swatted away heroes in the room that attacked. It quickly took a hold of Superboy who tired use his strength to get free but found the being stronger than him. Red Robin, in a panic to save his best friend (and crush, shhh maybe) quickly joined in but instead of being swatted away like the others gets snagged by a hand and soon found himself captured as well.

Just as quickly as the creature appeared, it retreated back into the still open portal, dragging the two with and not caring at all of the powers, fists, or shouting being thrown at it.

Then it was gone.

Leaving the JL in a panic.

"-And thats why I need your help! I understand its a lot to ask but please, any help will be welcomed." the eldritch being, or rather Danny Phantom begged as he worriedly glanced at them.

So... It turns out the eldritch being was a young halfa ghost hero named Phantom that needed their help stabilizing his clone/sister/maybe daughter?

She was apparently melting and needed stable DNA when he had rushed her to a ghost doctor and was told. But Danny had no clue how to stabilize a clone and the fruitloop that cloned him the notes were bare bones and frankly terrible. In his desperate need for help Danny had sought out clues/advice from his mentor who basically pointed him to Superboy and Red Robin in his frustrating riddling way.

Superboy's DNA had the stable cloning gene/code they needed. Red Robin was smart enough to help figure out a way to put it Danielle 'Elle' Phantom. (it also helped that he had dabbled into cloning during his... bad year)

So yeah, Danny in his panic to save his clone went full on eldritch monster and opened a portal during their meeting and dragged them to the Far Frozen where Ellie was currently suspended in a ecto healing pod and was now begging for their help, promising them anything if they helped out.

The catch? If they put Superboy's DNA in Ellie she'll de-age to her true age and no longer be a 'pure' clone.

Instead she'll be their (Danny and Conner's) kid.

This gen would be interesting if only because Baxter would be like 10 years or so older than Emi but what does age matter when you’re geniuses! Also Shelldon is technically her nephew which I just find amusing 🤣

I keep seeing fanarts of ppl's OC's being on the ship, so do you think that if there was 6st crewmember (specifically, another woman) Anya would've been more safe? Like, someone to actually call Jimmy's begaviour out, someone Anya might wanna trust? Is there a possibility something might have changed (even if a little) or it would not have mattered at all?

I feel like the game would make it part of the commentary on where she would believe and help Anya but still be sort of dismissive? Like the whole “don’t waste time crying and being scared keep going and move on, don’t let him win”. It’s supposed to be positive and reinforcing but sometimes it does more damage in those times of mourning and grief, it feels patronizing, like you don’t understand what you’re going through but they do. Even if they did call out his behavior it’s still on Curly to act and while another voice would help, it’s still 4 against 2 on guys that don’t get it until they have to vs women who always have to.

I don’t mind mouthwashing OCs but I do get a bit bored as they tend to be borderline saviors or like Jimmy aligned. They are either more complicit than Curly or just Jimmy haters for no reason, outside of what the creators know about what he did to Anya. I am never irked by OCs but in a story like mouthwashing you really need to think about what your character adds to the commentary, especially if they are there during the crash. It’s nice to have like characters on Anya’s side more whole heartedly and interesting to see characters who placate Jimmy but sometimes it’s one note.

I can’t and don’t want to police peoples OCs it’s never my intention when I comment on trends I notice, but I do feel like the way people make their OCs interact with these two characters and especially Curly, really show a grave misunderstanding of the narrative and these characters as people vs roles in the story. Still, I know people just make up characters for fun and that’s fine. Great even, but I guys I’m focusing more on OCs that are supposed to have those serious dynamics. My favs tend to be pretty-Tulpar or post-Tulpar au OCs.

The inevitably of the crash is on Jimmy. He did that not because he wasn’t stopped but because all his means to kill Anya were taken. The gun, the axe. Even if Curly did strip him of his co-pilot privileges and try to keep him contained there’s only so many people. An extra body helps but they have jobs they have to do, he’s the only one steering the whole ship and Jimmy would likely have an out: food, bathroom, etc. He’s not new and if he couldn’t crash the ship directly, who’s to say he wouldn’t sabotage something else? A clunker like the Tulpar wouldn’t take much. An extra person helps but it’s just another thing that prolongs what a person like Jimmy is willing to do to shirk responsibility.

It’s more than just needing someone to stand up to him and think that’s what is missing when it comes to inserting a character into the mouthwashing setting.

People who are so critical about Abby's body are weird. She is the top grunt soldier in a highly organized army...she's not going to look like a fashion model or even the average woman. It makes perfect sense for her to be very muscular because if she wasn't she wouldn't be able to do her job effectively, let alone be of the highest rank.

100% the annoying boundary ppl really really want to make and consume the "problematic" content outside of the boundary lists, but feel some weird moral guilt about it, so instead they overcompensate in the other direction by pointing the finger at everyone else

1. Whats your favorite piece of httyd media (Movies, comics, etc, but not the books.)

1. My absolute favourite part of HTTYD will always be the RoB/DoB era. It was the first httyd thing i ever watched (i was sick as a kid and while zapping around channels i came on RoB, I believe it were the Viking for Hire episode and the one right after?) and I think I partly became so obsessed with HTTYD after watching the movie bc i watched those RoB episodes. Believe me, I was watching HTTYD1 on vacation in Germany and was like. Squinting the entire time bc "???? Where tf do i know this from????" and then it clicked and i was sold.

But yeah, rob/dob is very close to my heart. Weve talked abt it before but it has a certain whimsy charm that fits right in line with the first movie. For me it's peak httyd. It will certainly always come above rtte to me lmao, i enjoy that show way less.

2. I always say the fourth book is really high up for me. I read the first 4 books as an 11 year old, but the other books weren't translated into dutch back in the year 2014 I think (the library didn't have them) so I only got to read the other books last year when I borrowed them from a friend of mine. But, the ending of book 4 has always gotten to me, with the Doomfang, and him watching over Hiccup, and it just makes me go eidjrjjdjdekrjdkejr sobbing. I read most of them on long commutes too (except the last one, i finished that in one sitting after my first EMDR therapy session. I remember almost nothing from that lmao) so there were many. Many times i just sat in either the bus or train staring ahead of me with blank eyes bc the story just hit too hard.

How to break a dragons heart is also really. Really good. Like they're all good, but everything with the witch and all the storytelling abt the past is so. So good. I just adore that entire series.

Also, the library one bc that one is just funny bc I work in a library and i feel very connected to the hairy scary librarian. Id want him as a co worker lmao.

My biggest issue with young!Jee is that he isn't anywhere near as smart as OG old!Jee, and that just doesn't feel right for the character. OG Jee would have known Zhao was manipulating him against Zuko's best interests the second Zhao opened his mouth.

i disagree. canon jee doesn't tell us much. and honestly jee hated zukos guts. i wouldn't be surprised if jee for some cheep booze told zhaos crew that zuko found the avatar in the south pole. he left, like the entire crew did as well, zukos ship on zhaos order. leaving zuko and iroh behind.

if your interpretation of original jee is that he is smart and a devoted lieutenant, that is fine by me. but it reads vary fanon to me.

unpopular opinion probably but i think sjm should have let rhys die at the end of acowar instead of bringing him back it would have made for better a story instead of what she's currently doing with his character, like feyre dealing with her grief while trying to be the ruling high lady and also trying to be there for nesta, she even could have kept the pregnancy plotline just moved up the timeline a bit and at the end of acosf while feyre's dying during the birth have rhys' ghost or whatever pop up that only her and nesta can see and he helps nesta save her somehow

This would be so interesting from a character exploration perspective. Feyre has already gone so much, so to lose Rhys in that moment, it would hurt so good to see how she dealt with the grief and then finding herself in power, alone. I would totally write that fic, I love writing angst.

You know what would be interesting is knowing how Feyre would have handled the birth stuff without it being hidden from her, if it weren't used as a way for Nesta to finally snap and then reconcile with Feyre at the end. And at least then, Feyre wouldn't be relegated to the background of her own story.

I do think death would be preferable to what Rhys has been up to since acofas. Not to mention it would address the fact that there are NEVER actual stakes in her stories since she doesn't kill any major characters.

Since tumblr decided to be a dick and not put my last post in rwde and I don't feel like retyping all my tags, here's those tags expanded as their own post

So. Themes. Super important for a story if you want to have any depth. Super easy to fuck up

What always sniped my snout about the trailers is how the Black Trailer is the strongest in terms of story because its theme is made abundantly clear and the path ahead exciting. "Are casualties acceptable in the name of a good cause?" has been asked a thousand times and gotten a thousand answers. It's a difficult enough question in real life but even harder in fiction because of how grounded it has to be in the worldbuilding and plot and characters

That last one starts off so well, too. Adam is firmly in Camp Casualties while Blake holds a more tentative counter position. In just a few minutes with minimal dialogue, the writers established the base of these characters and what their entire story would be about. This setup promised a veritable feast of drama and philosophy, made even spicier by the obvious bond the two shared

Yet the Black Trailer may as well be a fart in the wind for all the show cared. Not only does Adam not properly appear until three years in, he can no longer perform his original function as thematic counterpart due to Cinder calling the shots the moment the events of the BT are over. All the casualties seen are of the White Fang themselves, sacrificed on the altar of Cinder and Salem’s plan to... gain power and destroy the world, I think?

(Hard to remember when we, both hero and audience, had to wait almost a decade for the reason the story is happening, and the payoff just sank the show further into debt)

As bad as that is, nothing is more disappointing than Blake never being able to explore and embody her own theme. Whenever she gets challenged on her stance, not once does she rise to the occassion and proclaim why she's right to believe what she believes. The only thing she believes is that Adam (violence) is wrong and needs to be stopped. She doesn't face any hardships or loss for choosing peace over violence, instead getting handed victory after victory because her opposition keeps getting hit with the stupid cupid stick

The closest Adam and Blake ever got to fulfilling that original theme is at Beacon, and it's so weak and shallow and overshadowed by "mY dArLiNg" that it's hardly worth talking about. The writers' choice to switch from "are casualties acceptable" to "running away is the only way to protect your friends" with no bridge or closure is truly astounding

They could have done both. Even a world told through the narrow narrative lens is big enough to contain multiple themes at once, and they can be used in tandem to create insane amounts of depth. RWBY was a highly ambitious and very large project, so having multiple themes was pretty much guaranteed, but because the writers lacked skill and passion, they subtracted themes instead of building them, and the entire show is worse off for it
