i love that WtNV doesn't base any plot around Carlos and Cecil's personal conflicts, but it still mentions them from time to time

like, "oh, Cecil started an argument about the spice drawer this morning and afterwards felt insecure and like he didn't deserve Carlos, and also they're still just as in love as they were in episode 40 and had already talked it through by the time we heard about it." "oh, Carlos got mad at Cecil for trying to punch Dr Jones, and also they worked it out because they love each other even when one of them yells at the other for acting without thinking."

The University can’t celebrate failure, after all.” And that’s when I punched Dr. Blake Jones. Oh look. It’s time for the weather.

My first wtnv theory!

I recently finished watching all of Night Vale so far, and it took me about a month but I am so intrigued by the mysteries, especially about my favorite character, Carlos, and his past. I have a lot of questions and theories. 

Is Explaining mysterious stuff away just what they do at the University of What it is? Has Carlos ever done something like that? Maybe he left for a reason, because he didn’t want to be a part of that anymore. But they previously had a picture of him in the academic building for a reason. What if the University of What it is, including Carlos is responsible for the lack of magic in the rest of the world? Perhaps it never had as much mystery as Night Vale, but what if, in the past, faerie rings were real, and moss grew on the north side of trees? What if the reason magic shows (like Makarov the Magical) are not real magic is because Carlos Explained it away while he was at the university, just like Dr. Lubelle? Maybe that’s why he just insisted it was magic whenever Cecil questioned him about it? 

Maybe the University of What it is was almost cult-like and Carlos had to run away to Night Vale to get out? that would explain why he was saying there was “no reasoning with them” despite the fact that scientists were supposed to be reasonable people. And they do not look favorably on people who turn their back on them, or who believe differently (though that could just be a Dr. Lubelle thing).

 And maybe what they do at UWII is Explaining, and that’s why the people that do that are just “scientists” no specialization. Perhaps that is why Carlos is never described as being a particular type of scientist, and maybe the reason he is always called by his first name and not Dr. (whatever his last name is) is because he wants no part in the kind of science he got a doctorate in. After all, Dr. Jones says “You forgot what it meant to be a scientist”. Carlos is deciding for himself what it means to be a scientist now. “I don’t know, but I’m trying to figure it out, okay?”

Master Makarov-The Gramps We All Need

Other than the main characters of Fairy Tail, there seems to be one that doesn’t get much hate for good reason. As you can tell by the title of this post it is none other than Master Makarov, the third, sixth, and eighth guild master of Fairy Tail. His title is not an easy feat as he has proven himself worthy of being a member of the Ten Wizard Saints.  Makarov has all the time he needs to showcase wisdom to the youth of Fairy Tail, thus it is no shock that they look to him for guidance. I don’t doubt this isn’t just because of his status but also his experiences. He seems to be respected among his peers as well, mainly by Yajima, a previous member of Fairy Tail and a previous council member. From the first moment you meet Makarov you know he’ll definitely be in for a ride. His kind hearted nature is immediately displayed along with no regards to what other people have to say about his guild, which seems to be a frequent thought among the guild members. As you journey through the series you become attached to him through the characters, who often refer to him as ‘Master’ or ‘Gramps’. You get a sense of how much they care about him. Then you meet his grandson Laxus Dreyar. Much like his grandfather, Laxus cares about this guild but he also cares about what people say and do not want people to trash on the name. You can tell the moment they see each other on screen that their relationship is strained, but get a sense that Makarov does care about him. Through the Battle of Fairy Tail you grow to know the character Laxus and by the end you are most likely crying. By the end you can tell Makarov cares about his family, but most importantly you know how much he cares about his guild. His guild always comes first and the safety of his own ‘adopted’ children. This is what makes Makarov such a perfect character in a series like Fairy Tail. A series centered around found family and how blood means nothing. Makarov takes the place of a grandpa and fatherly character who will be there for you. Most imperfections mean nothing to Makarov and he is understanding of the fact that nothing comes without those imperfections.  But with those traits in a personality mixed with a family dynamic comes a very important detail. Self-sacrifice. Self-sacrifice isn’t a rare concept in Fairy Tail, but it comes especially important from a character like Makarov. A man willing to go through any lengths to protect his small family he has made. He is willing to cast aside his own family from their protection, go against the government desires them to do (within reason), and now he  willing to even die for the assured protection of his family. Although Makarov has fallen from grace since the first episode, nothing can quite describe the feelings we have felt over the years that we experienced with Master Makarov. He definitely is such a memorable character and when he finally does die it will not be easy. But these are just my thoughts and so they aren’t definite. I wonder what you all think of Makarov, especially now sine his death has been dragged out and brought up so many times.

TW x FT: Markov reaction to NRC especially the overblots . Also does team FT try to teach the night NRC students their magic? If succeed, what magic do they learn?

See, the funny thing is, is that beating the evil out of your friend/foe until they're not evil anymore is hilariously common for FT, so honestly, I doubt they would bat an eye, Makarov included. “Oh, a student tried to scheme against the student body and then went berserk and tried to kill people? Reminds me of the time Gajeel tried to destroy the whole guild. Kids just need a little push, am'i'right?”

And yeah, I do think the kiddos will try to swap magic. I think it might be somewhat successful, because they have similar magic systems (self-generated, multi-functional/soft) though peeps in the FT world do specialize more while magic stays pretty generic in TW. So, for instance, we can probably get some make magic shenanigans afoot, or creative uses of summoning personal items requip-style, but then the TW kids might see takeover magic or even the easy application of transformations and perish, because that stuff is difficult. Meanwhile the FT lot would be amazed by the wide variety of magic any one individual can accomplish. (Also technology. It would blow their minds.)
