Bechloe Week Day 6: Celebrity Scandal
Words: 1732
Notes: Is this any good? I don't know. I wasn't going to write anything for this prompt and then the idea popped into my head so I wrote it out in a couple of hours and figured I might as well post it.

“Beca, it’s about time, I’ve been calling you all day,” Theo said, his voice the definition of frustration, when Beca finally answered her phone.
“Yeah,” Beca said, pacing her bedroom, one hand swiping at the tears that kept building in her eyes. “I’ve been a little busy.”
“I trust you’ve seen the news?”
“Of course I’ve fucking seen it,” Beca snapped, unable to keep her voice calm. “My phone has been blowing up all day and there are paparazzi camped out outside my house.”
“This is bad, Beca,” he said.
“No fucking shit, it’s bad,” she said. “My question is what are you going to do about it?”
“I told you to be careful. I told you this would happen if you insisted on keeping this thing with Chloe going,” he said.
“Thing? Dude, it’s 2023, you can call her my girlfriend,” Beca said.
She heard Theo sigh, and imagined him pinching the bridge of his nose - his go-to move when he thought Beca was acting deliberately childish. “Yes, it’s 2023. The world has changed. Everything is sunshine and rainbows and love is love, blah, blah blah. Welcome to the real world, Beca.”
“I didn’t do anything wrong,” Beca said. “Christ, it’s not like I got caught doing a line of coke or something.”
“You’re a popstar with a tween-aged audience,” Theo said. “You need to set a good example.”
“And being queer isn’t a good example? Is that what you’re actually trying to say, Theo?”
“No, I’m saying getting photographed in the back of your car with a girl in your lap isn’t a good example,” he said. “Not to the parents of your audience, anyway. Have you been on Twitter? They’re calling for a boycott of your record. Of the label. You’ve… I don’t know how you could be so careless.”
Beca swallowed and clenched her jaw. “Nothing happened,” she said. “I hadn’t seen Chloe in three months because of the press tour, so we made out in my car. You know, since she isn’t allowed to be seen entering my house and has to scurry in through the back at night like she’s some kind of dirty secret? I just wanted five minutes with her before I had to go inside alone.”
From where she was still sitting on her bed, Beca heard Chloe sniff, and she saw her turn away to wipe her eyes.
“And it might have cost you your career,” he said. “I’m trying to fix this, Beca, but they’re asking for blood.”
“I never asked to be an example to a bunch of kids,” Beca said, unable to look away from Chloe. “I’ve… I was never ashamed of my sexuality before now. Never. I’ve always known who I was, and no matter how many people told me it was wrong, I never listened to them. And I should have never listened to you.”
“I was trying to protect you,” he said.
“From what?” Beca said, with a hollow laugh. “You’ve turned my relationship with the woman I love into some sordid secret thing. If we’d just… dated - existed - without making it into a thing, no one would have cared. One picture snapped of us holding hands, and the headline would have been what? ‘Musician holds hands with girlfriend’? But no, we couldn’t do that. No holding hands in public, no dates, no sharing the same car. She has to sneak into my house, or I have to sneak into hers. She can’t just come and pick me up from the airport, no, she has to hide in the back of my car. Maybe I shouldn’t have pulled her into my lap the second we stopped, but if she’d been able to simply get out of the car with me, and walk the five feet to my house, we could have done that in private.”
Chloe’s eyes met hers as the room was lit up by the flash of a camera from outside. In the brief window of light, Beca saw Chloe’s eyes were still full of tears, mascara streaked down her cheeks. Their argument still hung heavily in the air, and Beca found she couldn’t look at her. She crossed the room and pulled the curtains tighter together, paranoid that the vultures lurking outside would see in.
“Are you done blaming me for this?” Theo asked, sounding bored, if not a little impatient. “We need to discuss how we fix it.”
“You said they want blood, give it to them,” Beca said.
“Who’s blood?”
“Mine,” Beca said. “I know how you want me to fix it, and I’m not willing to do it.”
“Beca-”
“No,” Beca said. “You want me to break up with her. Make a public statement that I’m sorry that I let everyone down. That I’ve seen the error of my ways and it won’t happen again, right?”
“I mean, you don’t have to use those exact words, but-”
“I’m not doing it,” Beca said. “I never wanted to be a pop star, but you pressured me into it. I never wanted to write music for tweens, but you said that’s what the label thought I should do. I never wanted to keep Chloe a secret, but you said it was for the best. I’m done letting you and the label make decisions for me.”
“Beca, think about this,” he said, sounding more panicked now than he had when had first called. “Think about what you’re saying. If you walk away from this, you’d be giving up everything you’ve worked for. The label owns your songs and, until your contract ends, you can’t make or perform music for anyone else. You have three years left on that contract. You’ll lose everything.”
“No I won’t,” Beca said. “But if I do what you’re asking me to do, I will.”
“God, use your brain for once-”
“I’m not giving up my relationship, Theo, but what happens after is up to you. In an hour, I’m going to post on Instagram that Chloe is my girlfriend. That we’ve been together since the day I was signed by the label, and that I love her. So either you’re putting out a statement that you’re cutting ties with me because of my sexual orientation, or that you’re standing by me after my privacy was violated.”
“It isn’t that simple,” he said, an edge to his voice.
“It is, actually,” Beca said. “You can frame it however you want. You can say that we’re parting ways due to a personal conflict, or creative differences. You can even say that due to ‘recent revelations’ that I am no longer being represented by the label. Whatever words you want to use is fine, because I can let the world know the truth. And you can’t sue me for slander, or libel, or whatever when every word I say will be the truth. Because I’ve got receipts, Theo. I have emails and texts and voicemails all telling me that if I’m going to date Chloe, it needs to be a secret. Then we can see who’s getting boycotted. Do you think the artists on your label who are allowed to be openly queer will be happy? Even if they don’t care, I think their fans might.”
“Don’t try and play this game, Beca,” he said.
“I’m not playing,” Beca said. “I’m done pretending and hiding. Getting to call Chloe my girlfriend, and getting to love her, has been the best thing to ever happen to me. And she has been nothing but proud and supportive, even when I was treating her like something to be ashamed of.” Beca looked at Chloe again, and although there were still tears in her eyes, she was smiling. She held out her hand and Beca crossed the room to take it. “No more hiding, Theo.”
“So what do you suggest we do?” He said.
“Nothing,” Beca said. “I put up my post, you put out your statement that the label will be standing by me, and then we all move on. The press will get bored and move on. The internet will get bored and move on. I go back to making you all money, and you stop telling me who I can and can’t be seen with.”
“The label won’t go for it,” he said.
“You don’t know unless you ask,” Beca said. “But it’s either that or you fire me. Because I won’t give her up. Call me when you’ve made a decision.” She hung up the phone without another word and dropped it onto the bed. For the first time in a long time, Beca felt like she could breathe. She felt like she was gaining just a little bit of control back.
“Bec, I can’t let you do this,” Chloe said.
“It isn’t your decision,” Beca said. “I’m not breaking up with you. If you’ll still have me, then nothing they say will make me give you up.”
“Of course I’ll still have you,” Chloe said. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Beca said.
“You could lose your job, your songs, everything,” Chloe said.
“Not everything,” Beca said. “Not you.”
“Never me,” Chloe said.
The phone on the bed began ringing, and Beca saw Theo’s name flash up on the screen.
“Well?”
“Make your stupid post,” he said. “We’ll be releasing a press statement in the morning that no action will be taken and that the label supports you. Next time you make out with your girlfriend, do it in private, will you?”
Beca grinned at Chloe. “Maybe. Thanks for finally fighting my corner, Theo.”
“Yeah, well, turns out you’re actually a pretty valuable asset.”
“Aw, that’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
“Don’t get used to it,” he said.
Beca hung up the phone again, and Chloe threw her arms around her neck.
“I’m sorry about earlier,” Beca said, hugging Chloe back tightly. “I didn’t mean to snap at you like that.”
“I know,” Chloe said. “I forgive you.”
“I’m so sorry for everything I’ve put you through since we got together,” Beca said.
“I knew what I was signing up for,” Chloe said. “And, yes, it was really hard, but you were worth it. You’re still worth it.”
“I’m never going to do that to you again,” Beca said. “I promise. I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” Chloe replied. “Always have, always will.”

Bechloe 😍
BECHLOE WAS REAL AND IM SO MAD THEY DIDNT MAKE THEM CANNON ‼️
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beca couldn’t believe she’d agreed to this. She would’ve preferred staying in, mixing beats and finding more samples for her arrangements, but after Chloe had practically groveled at her feet to come out, Beca couldn’t bring herself to say no. She told herself she’d put her foot down for once, but when Chloe looked at her with that almost mischievous grin, Beca couldn’t bring herself to refuse her.
So, here Beca was getting ready to go to a party at some sorority house she’d never been to. She’d made Chloe promise she wouldn’t leave her to wander aimlessly through the crowds of sweaty, sticky college kids covered in beer and unknown substances. The red-head swore she wouldn’t let Beca out of her sight, but deep down Beca knew as soon as Chloe started to feel the liquor coursing through her system she would stumble away and leave Beca alone in the endless, confining space of the warm sorority house.
Even though Beca knew Chloe wouldn’t keep her word, she liked to hold out hope that Chloe would stay by her side long enough for Beca to feel that subtle, warm buzz while she inevitably waited for Chloe to return. As Beca thought about the familiar scenario and how awful she would feel without Chloe there to distract her, she began to have second thoughts. ‘Maybe I can skip out on this one…’ Beca thought, staring at the outfit that she’d decided to wear to the party. Her dark mauve shirt suddenly felt more constricting than flattering and she was now hyper aware of the necklaces dangling from her neck.
She didn’t want to disappoint Chloe by flaking at the last minute, but she’d rather deal with Chloe’s temporary disappointment than the smothering feeling of being stuck alone in a house full of stupid, drunk college kids, disaster waiting to happen.
Beca fought with the thoughts in her head, and as if on cue, her phone rang with a notification from Chloe.
Chloe: Ur still coming right?? I'm not going by myself again 😔
Beca laughed. Maybe she would go… or maybe she wouldn’t. She couldn’t make up her mind and Chloe’s unintentional guilt tripping didn’t make her come up with a decision any faster. She grabbed her phone, staring at the text bubble for a moment.
Beca: why don’t u ask Stacie? she’ll definitely go with u
Chloe’s response was almost immediate.
Chloe: Because id rather go with u
Chloe: I feel like we don’t hang out nearly as much as we should
Beca agreed, they hadn’t hung out as much as they used to. Beca didn’t know why. She’d assumed it had something to do with Chloe’s schedule. She missed Chloe, but she never said anything. It was comforting knowing that Chloe felt the same.
Beca: ur right we haven’t. I feel like ur always busy
Beca: plus every time we go out it’s always to somewhere loud and obnoxious
Beca: why can’t we hang out somewhere where we can actually have a conversation?
Beca set her phone down while she waited for Chloe’s response. She knew she wouldn’t have to wait long, Chloe was always quick to reply. She played with the silver necklace Jesse had gotten her for their first anniversary. Even though they’d broken up months ago, Beca couldn’t bring herself to get rid of it. It reminded her of the good times with Jesse and distracted her from the explosive arguments that caused their break up. A notification from her phone caught her attention before she reflected too much on her failed relationship.
Chloe: Ik I’m sorry I’ve been trying to catch up on work
Chloe: if I flunk Mr. Bradshaws class you’ll never see me again 😥
Chloe: Why don’t u like parties Beca they’re fun just give them a chance!!
Sigh. Beca loved Chloe. She really did, but she wished Chloe would just see things from her point of view without Beca having to spell it out for her.
Beca: maybe I’d like them more if u didn’t abandon me to go get drunk when u know I only go to those stupid parties for u chlo
This time, Chloe’s response didn’t come as quickly. Beca told herself it was because Chloe was really considering what Beca had told her before responding. The longer she waited the more self conscious she felt about her response. It sounded a bit mean, but Beca had been dealing with this for an entire semester and she was really getting sick of having to be dragged around by Chloe just to be abandoned. And it’s not that she disliked parties completely, but they weren’t as fun when she didn’t know anyone to bounce of off, that’s what Chloe was supposed to be there for.
………..
Chloe: I’m sorry Beca Ik u dont like them
Chloe: I just thought if I brought u to them enough you’d start to warm up to them
Beca stared at her phone, at Chloe’s message. Beca wasn’t as upset as she once was, now she felt… She didn’t know what she felt, but she knew it was a positive feeling.
Beca: it’s fine chlo I just want the two of us to hang out together… alone lol
Beca didn’t know if that sounded flirty or not. She’d added the ‘lol,’ just in case, but she wasn’t sure if that was enough. Sometimes her and Chloe flirted, but it was always innocent and never backed by anything. It was mostly Chloe doing something to Beca and Beca calling her out. Beca never really reacted because she didn’t know how to. She didn’t know if there was any truth behind Chloe’s teases. At first, she thought it was just jokes, but when someone acts a certain way towards you for so long, you start to question if they’re truly being serious.
And if Beca was being serious… she had feelings for Chloe, she had for a while now. She had no idea for how long at this point, there had sort of always been something that attracted Beca to Chloe. She had never been able to tell what, or maybe it was just Chloe’s overall positive aura that drew her in. She thought it might be Chloe’s boldness. I mean, their first real conversation was in the shower, both of them completely naked. Though Beca had been hesitant to look, she had noticed Chloe’s toned physique, something you could tell she worked for. Her core was tight and toned with an aquamarine-encrusted belly button ring.
Her boobs were perky and Beca could tell she’d recently tanned, it was even and bronze and it complemented the color of her hair so well. Or when she had always tried to stick up for Beca to Audrey, though it constantly fell on deaf ears. There was just something about Chloe that drew Beca in and the feeling had always been there, but now that Jesse was out of the picture, she was finally free to explore her attraction.
It’s not like she was just choosing to believe her delusions, either. Chloe had always acted especially friendly towards Beca. She loved to drop hints towards Beca that she wanted to “experiment” or that she “hadn’t experimented enough.” Beca had a feeling she knew what Chloe meant, but did she mean with her? Beca wasn’t sure. Chloe also loved to grope her. At first, she had been hesitant to be that comfortable with someone, but after Chloe had successfully broken Beca's walls, she began to allow the touches, even started to expect them. She could feel a tinge of concern in her stomach when Chloe didn’t touch her in some way.
She felt comfortable in Chloe’s touch. By her supple, tropical-scented hand lotion, or her matching perfume that made her smell like the freshest fruits. Her gold earrings or her wavy strawberry hair. Everything about her was comforting. Beca had never really felt that with any of her previous friends, only with Chloe. It was a new feeling, she didn’t know whether it was a welcome feeling or not.
Beca was brought from her self reflective ramblings by her phone dinging with a notification.
Chloe: Oh so u want alone time together 😏
There was Chloe’s usual flirting. Usually Beca would try to diffuse a situation like this, but for some reason she wanted to lean into it. She wanted to see how far this flirting would get her. Maybe she could convince Chloe to come over and miss the party. They could watch movies, talk, Beca might even confess her somewhat confusing feelings to her. They might even…
Beca didn’t want to get ahead of herself, so for now she decided to test the waters.
Beca: maybe I do 🥱
Beca: u might see if u skip this party and come over 🖤
Beca hadn’t realized how incredibly suggestive that sounded until she sent it, but she didn’t want to unsend it either. She wanted to see what Chloe would say, so she waited with baited breath as Chloe swiftly sent a reply.
Chloe: Are u trying to coerce me Beca 😨
Beca: idk is it working?
Chloe: tbh yeah 👀
Beca: then yes I am
Beca liked where this conversation was headed. She almost wanted to hit herself for not flirting back sooner. If she had, this might have already been a regular thing for her and Chloe. But this new feeling was invigorating and thrilling.
Chloe: Do u really want me to come over?
Chloe: Cause I will
Beca swallowed hard as she read those texts. She did want Chloe to come over, but what would that entail? By the tone of this conversation, they’d most likely take their relationship to a new level. Did Beca want that? Or more so, was she ready for that?
Beca closed her eyes as she imagined making love to Chloe. Her smooth glossed lips leaving cherry-colored kisses all over Beca’s skin. Feeling her warm, lotioned hands beneath her shirt, beneath her bra. Beca clenched her legs at the thought of it, she started to feel really hot all of a sudden but she didn’t want to keep Chloe waiting, so she responded as quickly as she could.
Beca: yeah I do
Beca: I’m tired of parties haha
Beca waited for Chloe’s reply. She could feel herself getting more excited by the second. Kimmy Jin was gone, so they were free to do whatever they wanted without an audience.
Chloe: Ok I’ll be right over
Wow, this was much more simple than Beca thought it would be. She should’ve done this sooner. As she set her phone down, she looked in the mirror. She was still wearing her outfit for the party. Should she change? Beca thought over it for a moment, she’d spent so long getting ready, might as well let someone see it.
Beca laid back, waiting for Chloe to knock on her door. She wasn’t too far, so she wouldn’t take long. Beca was equal parts nerves and excitement. She’d finally be able to tell Chloe how she felt. It was something she almost wanted to celebrate. Maybe with some alcohol to give her the liquid courage she needed.
A couple minutes later, there was a light few knocks on her dorm door. She hopped up, almost embarrassingly quick, and made her way to the door, making sure to fix her hair before opening it. When she opened the door, she was greeted by one of her favorite sights.
Chloe stood there in a dark blue tank top with an even darker colored cropped jacket, it was unzipped to reveal Chloe’s cleavage that was decorated with a golden necklace with a pearl in the middle. She had flared dark blue jeans and heeled boots on. Her winged eyeliner was more dramatic and smudged than usual and she had a dark stain on her lips, it was almost impossible not to stare. It all contrasted her bright hair and made everything mesh together cohesively. She looked amazing as always. Beca tried to make sure her awe wasn’t obvious, giving the red-head a quick once over before focusing on her face again. It was adorned with a bright smile, as usual.
The familiar scent of papaya and coconut wafted towards Beca as Chloe immediately pulled her into a hug. Beca embraced it, more than usual. She snuggled into Chloe’s shoulder more, wrapped her arms around her waist a little tighter, held her hands a little lower…
Beca pulled away, hesitantly at first. She looked at Chloe who seemed chipper as normal, despite her more intense makeup. She obviously eyed Beca up and down as she welcomed her into the dorm. Beca felt both hot and anxious under Chloe’s blatant stare. Though her gaze didn’t last long, the effect it had on Beca did.
“You’re lucky I love you, Bec,” Chloe joked as she casually sat on Beca’s bed. The bed she’d been sure to make before Chloe came. Beca couldn’t help but notice how alluring Chloe looked sitting with her legs crossed like that, in her flared jeans with that dark makeup, looking at Beca so playfully, like she knew where this night would eventually lead. Beca walked towards her, trying not to make the anxious desire rushing through her detectable.
“I know. I must be pretty important for that,” Beca said, sitting beside Chloe on the bed, once again being greeted by her fruity smelling perfume, a scent she never got tired of. Chloe smiled at her before replying.
“You are… plus, I felt bad for alway dragging you out and then leaving you,” Chloe admitted, her confident, laid back attitude partially being interrupted by genuine regret. Beca had already mostly forgiven Chloe for that, but now with her right in front of her, looking at her with that remorseful look in her eyes, all Beca’s anger seemed to melt away.
“It’s ok. I’m just glad I actually get to talk to you now. I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever,” Beca replied, nervously fidgeting with the layers of bracelets dangling from her wrist. She couldn’t look at Chloe when she had that look in her eyes. It made Beca want to act reckless and there was no room for mistakes tonight. Beca had decided that tonight was the night she would confess her feelings.
“I know, me too, but I’m here now,” Chloe replied. Beca could feel Chloe’s gaze pouring into her and it just made her face feel hotter than it already was. She could feel her lips curling into a nervous smile.
“Yeah, you are. It was easier to get you here than I thought it’d be,” Beca giggled, finally looking up to see Chloe’s smile. It made Beca’s heart speed up, she could feel the rhythmic thumping against her chest, she was almost certain Chloe could hear it, too. Chloe had somehow pulled a bottle of wine from her bag and had already begun opening it. Beca alternated her stare between the bottle and Chloe, she shouldn’t have been surprised but she was. Chloe laughed to herself as she finally got the lid off.
“Did you think it’d be hard or something?” Chloe laughed, taking a sizeable swig from the bottle before passing it to Beca. She wrestled with whether to accept it or not. The liquid courage would help her as long as she didn’t get too drunk. She grabbed the bottle and took a smaller sip than Chloe before handing it back to her.
“I mean, yeah kinda. You don’t like missing parties, Chlo,” Beca said, sitting back against the wall with Chloe soon following suit. Now, they were even closer and Beca could smell the wine beginning to mix with Chloe’s tropical scent. Chloe’s hair fell in framing cascades around her face, the strawberry locks were as soft as fresh linen. Beca wanted nothing more than to run her fingers through it.
“I don’t mind missing a few parties for you, Beca. You know that,” Chloe reiterated, taking another sip of wine and passing it to Beca again. She took it with less hesitation the second time. Beca could tell Chloe was beginning to feel its effects and she wouldn’t let herself fall behind her. Beca was starting to feel herself become more at ease, her shoulders were falling and she could actually make eye contact with Chloe now. She looked as radiant as ever, the alcohol was working to make Beca even more smitten with her best friend. There was a subtle blush to her tan skin, courtesy of the alcohol. With the way the wine was taking effect already, Beca could tell Chloe had pregamed before coming.
“Do I?” Beca joked, eyeing Chloe with a teasing glint in her eyes. Chloe giggled as she put her head down. Beca could see Chloe’s shoulders rise and fall with laughter. When Chloe put her head up, her eyes were sparkly and the red-tinted lip gloss that coated her lips bounced off the lights.
“I know I didn’t make that clear before,” Chloe started, averting Beca’s gaze while turning more red, “but it’s true.” Chloe finished, looking at the brunette with a newfound intensity.
“Well, thanks, Chlo,” Beca responded. She suddenly felt awkward with Chloe so close to her. She wanted a swig of the wine in Chloe’s hand. As Beca reached over for the wine, Chloe pulled it from her grasp. Now, they were closer than ever. Beca could feel the heat between them and Chloe’s eyes made Beca feel… something.
“There’s not much left,” Chloe said, her voice was deep and quiet, maybe because Beca was so close, but that tone of voice didn’t help Beca’s warm face. Beca finally decided it was time to back up, away from that comforting scent. Chloe looked disappointed for a moment, but it was gone as fast as it came.
“D-did you want the last sip or something?” Beca asked, she cursed quietly to herself for stuttering. Chloe’s smile returned as bright as ever. She was clearly enjoying this more than Beca.
“No, you can have it,” Chloe responded, passing the near empty bottle to Beca. She took it, but not without their fingers brushing against each other. Even with that short contact, Beca could already feel the smooth surface of Chloe’s hand.
“If I could have it, why’d you pull it away the first time?” Beca asked, finishing the bottle before setting it on the floor. At some point, Chloe had laid down and put her legs out, covering Beca’s legs with hers. It made Beca suddenly feel a bit better about confessing, clearly Chloe was even more flirty than she was.
Beca knew now was her chance to confess or she’d lose all the courage she’d built up. As the two had a stare down, Beca crept her way up Chloe’s leg, resting just beneath her knee. Chloe tried to make her smile inconspicuous, but Beca could see the corner of her lips curl up.
“I don’t know, I just felt like it,” Chloe teased, eyeing Beca’s hand on her leg before staring at Beca again, taking a detour to gaze at Beca’s lips. Beca scooted closer, careful to make sure Chloe didn’t notice. There was a break of silence between them. Beca supposed she should take advantage of the silence, but the nerves were still holding her back. Chloe had gotten on her phone at this point, giggling at something or someone.
Beca needed to just come out and say it before it ate her alive. “Chlo, I have something to tell you,” Beca started, ignoring the shakiness in her voice. Chloe looked up from her phone immediately like she was waiting for Beca to say something. Chloe set her phone down beside her before sitting up and staring at Beca with intense curiosity. Beca missed the warmth, but this was far more important than that.
“Uhm, the reason I wanted you to come over wasn’t just because I was tired of you leaving me at parties, even though that was annoying,” Beca stated, fidgeting with her hands again to distract herself.
“We haven’t really seen each other lately and I missed you,” Beca continued, she was trying to find the words needed to ease into this, but she couldn’t help but stall. Chloe smiled at Beca’s nervous exterior, she wasn’t really used to seeing Beca’s bashful side… she liked it.
“Aw, I missed you too, Beca,” Chloe responded, waiting for the brunette to continue. She wasn’t trying to rush her, which Beca appreciated, but it meant Beca had to push herself to come out with what she wanted to say.
“Thanks. Uhm… since we haven’t been hanging out as much I’ve been thinking,” Beca almost whispered. Chloe moved closer, simultaneously comforting Beca and making her more nervous.
“About?” Chloe asked, waiting for Beca to finish. There was an anticipating glow in her eyes. Chloe could tell where this was going from the moment she walked in, she just needed Beca to get the courage to say it.
“Us… like, our relationship. Since me and Jesse broke up, it’s made me realize things about myself,” Beca said, finally looking up from her shaky hands to stare at Chloe, her gaze as intense as ever.
“What about our relationship, Beca?” Chloe inquired with a smirk. This was starting to become harder by the minute. Beca knew she should stop beating around the bush, but Chloe didn’t make it easier with her penetrating gaze. She decided it’d just be easier to show Chloe rather than tell her.
Beca stared at Chloe for a moment, unsure. She’d just suddenly stopped talking and she could tell Chloe was starting to get concerned.
“Beca, are you o-“ Chloe started, but before she could finish, Beca bit the bullet and kissed her. Her lips were as soft as Beca imagined and the wine on her tongue made their kiss taste sweet. Chloe melted into the kiss easily, moaning into Beca’s mouth. Beca crawled towards Chloe, holding her back against her. Chloe’s hand was already in Beca’s hair, grazing around her scalp. Her lip gloss was smearing against Beca’s lips, but she couldn’t care less.
Beca’s hand gripped Chloe’s shoulder, pulling her jacket off to expose her freckle-covered shoulder. Beca let out a moan as Chloe spread her legs and pulled her between them. They feel against Beca’s pillows with a thud. Beca pulled away and Chloe was already giggling in the midst of trying to catch her breath.
“Beca… I-I don’t know what to say,” Chloe whispered, pulling Beca closer to her. Beca’s chest was falling and rising in quick succession. She didn’t even know she had that in her. She’d never planned to ambush Chloe with a kiss, but it just seemed easier than stumbling through a confession that could never properly convey her feelings for Chloe anyway. Plus, she finally got to kiss her best friend and that was worth every bit of awkward tension.
Beca gazed down at Chloe. Her breasts were glistening under the light as she caught her breath. Her eyes still had the playful glow that Beca loved so much and her once perfectly glossed lips had smudged and transferred to Beca’s.
“I didn’t either. That’s why I had to show you,” the brunette confessed. She was shocked at herself, but Chloe didn’t seem to be. She acted as if she had expected this at some point. Her smile was so captivating, it made Beca feel like she was on cloud nine each time she caught a glimpse of it.
“I was hoping you would,” Chloe whispered, propping herself on her elbows to give Beca another kiss. It was still as passionate as the last, but much more tender, like they had all the time in the world. Her lips were so soft against Beca’s, it made her want to melt against the redhead. Chloe moaned when Beca’s hand found her way onto her scalp, gently pulling at the silky strands. Chloe wrapped a leg around her, the rough feeling of the jeans grazing Beca’s hip as her shirt lifted slightly. She shouldn’t have been surprised that Chloe was a good kisser, but her imagination truly hadn’t captured the feeling of this moment. All the tension, flirty jokes, times Chloe’s hands had stayed on her for too long finally made sense. Chloe pulled Beca closer, arching into her touch as Beca gripped her hips tightly.
Chloe’s hand traveled to Beca’s shirt, pulling at the bottom as her nails grazed her skin. Before Beca could assist Chloe with her shirt, the door began to twist and rattle. Kimmy Jin. They both looked at each other for a split second before separating. Chloe sat up right and Kimmy Jin came in with her friends, looking at them with disdain, as usual.
“The white girl and her friend are here,” Kimmy Jin said in her permanently monotone voice. Beca stared at Chloe, Chloe stared at Beca, and all Kimmy Jin’s friends stared at them before sitting on Kimmy’s side of the room and starting up some game. Beca really wished she had a single room right about now. Chloe giggled to herself before leaning over to Beca, her lips grazing her neck. Beca tensed, this was reckless.
“My roommate will be out tonight if you wanna come over,” the red-head whispered flirtatiously. She knew Beca wouldn’t refuse her, she didn’t have the strength. She never had. Beca just nodded as she watched Kimmy Jin’s friends closely to make sure they wouldn’t be caught. Chloe looked over at the group for a moment, before turning Beca’s face to hers and leaving a chaste, teasing kiss to her lips. Beca wished it could go on forever, but Chloe got up, grabbed the now empty bottle and headed towards the door with a wave and a wink. Beca smiled and waved back. As she left, Beca fell against her bed, put her headphones on, and waited for nightfall when she could finally show Chloe just how deep her feelings went.
What is Queerbaiting?
Tumblr media
I had a good conversation about this with @ejassy the other day and figured I'd just make a post about it in case anyone else wanted to either share their own thoughts too or were just confused over what people mean when they say queerbaiting. Which CAN get confusing, especially when it gets used incorrectly ALOT.
So in short simple terms, for queerbaiting and its similar phrases?
Queer subtext: I normally think of this in 2 ways. The first being unintentionally gay. This was clearly not the intention of the writer ever, but the gay ships were just accidentally too full of chemistry and the ship shipped itself by accident even though the characters aren't "canon" gay (think batman and joker. Or Lord of the rings or Elsa from Frozen. Or like a good portion of misogynistic anime writers who can't write a female character that isn't flat AF lol)
Tumblr media
The second being where it can also be defined as INTENTIONALLY gay. Where instead of it being something that just happened, it was written like this pn purpose and with full intention of being queer and is in its own way, good queer representation, even if the queer relationship isn't ever technically confirmed, or only confirmed "off screen" by the writers. This is subtext and its sometimes left only as subtext because the romance is only a subplot or because of censorship. (Think Legend of Korra or Think Merthur from Merlin bbc.)
Tumblr media
Queercoding: acting queer or leaning into queer themes/subtext but not explicity queer for any number of reasons, including censorship for fictional universes or just being closeted. Basically there is enough subtext available for the audience to read them as queer regardless of if their sexuality is never confirmed either way. (Again, think Elsa. Or Jo March from Little Women, or think Nick Carraway from the Great Gatsby. Think of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji from The Untamed, the show not the web novel verison lol. Think Xena: Warrior Princess)
Tumblr media
Queerbaiting: obviously leaning into and promoting queer subtext and queer themes to keep gay fans on the hook and invested in your media with zero intentions of follow through. Almost at times even turning it into like a joke or just making it very obvious that the character was never actually queer. This was a term coined by queer theorist academics in the 1990s and didn't actually exist before then. This is not a term that can apply to real people. Real people can't queerbait. With very few exceptions to that "rule." Which I will discuss some of those possible exceptions in a bit. (Think Destial from supernatural, or Johnlock from Sherlock, or think Supercorp, Lena and Kara, from Supergirl. Or think Sam and Bucky from MCU, Bechloe from Pitch Perfect or Sterek from Teen Wolf. If anyone doesnt know why these would fall under a more queerbaiting label and dont already know, please feel free to ask for sure)
Tumblr media
There are some good sources out there that go into much more detail about what queerbaiting is, how it's been misused and more too as well if you have the time to watch them. This video was recommended from @guacamoli-avocadorado here. It is a great intro to the term and how it is used/should be used broken down in an easy to understand way. And it gives a bunch more examples like I shared above, etc.
youtube
And this one is longer but a really good and interesting dialogue about the topic. They take the definition of queerbaiting and expands upon it greatly as well as gives a very through dive down the history of queerness and queer subtext through film and media. This one was recommended by @chikooritajjk
youtube
Now, real people cannot queer bait. It's impossible UNLESS they have CONFIRMED their sexuality as "straight" and will sometimes "play gay," for an audience. And not just a straight actor playing a gay one, but doing something that is intentionally queer but backtracking and being like "well I mean, I'm straight so I didn't mean it." And doing so repeatedly and/or even making light of it or joking about it. Or even just being plain homophobic about it. Unless you are talking about the actions they take to promote their "brand" in an effort to profit off queer fans on purpose, while continuing to make it clear its not "that serious," then you could make an argument that that person is queerbaiting. Which, for clarification, two people of the same sex simply interacting together, even with lots of general affection, cannot be classified as queerbaiting ever. Especially because a person doesn't have to be "out" to act on their queerness. Our queerness is our own. No one gets to demand someone to give answers about their sexuality to confirm queerness or not before the public "decides" to keep trying to bully an answer out of them or not. You don't get to take self expression and someone else's comfort away from them for your own comfort in labels that don't belong to you anyway. The thing is, no one owes anyone any explanations about how they present themselves or what their sexuality is. You can't forcibly out people. "I think you are gay, therefore I'm owed an explanation and if you don't give me one, it means you are just queerbaiting" is WRONG. It's an umbrella media term, not a bullying tactic. This applys to everyone, random people off the street, actors, musicians, authors who write/engage in queer literature, public speakers, influencers, etc...
Tumblr media
There are some of kpop idol groups (or other celebrities in general) that could be classified as queerbaiting. Because they use queerness to build and promote their "brand" while otherwise never doing anything about it (even as an ally) and/or even being lowkey homophobic about it all or just continuing to make sure the audience knows they "arent actually gay." Or they use queerness in a way that fetishizies it, again without actually meaning it in any way. That's a whole seperate issue, and it could in ways be considered queerbaiting. Or it could more likely dig further into the issue of inauthenic queer fetishization used as a shock value for an audience to be used as sexual fantasies for their STRAIGHT audience, rather than to draw in a queer audience who are more looking for the possible authenticity of queerness or allyship in the celebrities/idols they are building these parasocial relationships with. Because again, unless you know what this person's sexuality is, how are you sure they aren't just exploring/or expressing their own queerness and aren't labeling it or are closeted for whatever their reasons may be, including just not being ready to come out yet.
Tumblr media
It is a fine line to walk, and there will probably be times in the "real life" instances above where you will have to use your own critical thinking skills to decide how you feel about things, etc. But for the most part, real people can't really queerbait. But hopefully this helps anyone who was/is confused. There are also a lot more resources out there if you wanted to continue looking into it. This is just what I know about it all myself too, if anyone has anything to add, they are free to do so. 💜
What are ur headcanons for bechloe as a couple 🤔
Oooh okay. Ummmm. I don't think about their movie versions much these days lol gotta think. Lemme see if I can keep this organized.
1. Beca big spoons fairly often, but in a little spoon kinda way. Like she tucks her face down against Chloe’s shoulders, instead of being level with her. It's very cute.
2. Beca initiates touch with her friends pretty regularly in the movies, but I think once she and Chloe got together, there would be a brief period where she didn't initiate touch with Chloe in front of other people quite as much. And there would have to be a "hey, you know you can hold my hand or whatever in front of the others" kinda conversation where Beca admits she has slacked off because she fears she won't be able to keep her hands off Chloe at all now that she's allowed to reach out more.
3. Beca sleeps on right side of the bed. Chloe is supposed to sleep on the left, but she usually ends up more in the middle than on her side.
4. Chloe’s parents are super chill and helped Chloe pay for all those extra years of college. At first, they were just like "oh baby, failed. It's okay, you got it this time." Then they met the new Bellas, and especially Beca, and they went "ah ha. Okay, go get her, tiger!" And happily helped with the next few years too. Biggest Bechloe stans. They threw a literal party when the couple became official.
What number am I on, 5, okay: Chloe is a morning jog and shower person and Beca is a "I will put on my eyeliner and fix my hair, but otherwise I am not actually awake until noon" person. Chloe slips out of bed every morning with a soft kiss on Beca’s temple and usually returns from her jog right as Beca is leaving the house, where she gets a real, somewhat grumpy kiss goodbye.
(Note: If I have written Beau instead of Beca anywhere, it's because I've been talking a lot about Beau from Critical Role recently and I am not going back to fix it lmfao)
6. Beca likes to nap facedown on the couch after long days and Chloe will put on TV and lie on top of her like a weighted blanket.
7. Chloe cries the first time Beca calls her "my girlfriend" and Beca, mortified and horrible with crying people, starts saying it as often as possible so Chloe will quickly get used to it and not cry anymore. About a year later, they're laughing about how adorable and ridiculous it was and Beca off-handedly says, "I mean, what're you gonna do when I call you 'my wife' one day, dude? Fall apart?" And Chloe cries even harder. And then spends the morning making Beca incredibly late for work.
I think that's all I have atm! This was a super fun question to wake up to and now I gotta go write more fanfic of them. ✍️ Thank you!
Top 5 fave fanfics you've ever read
"pls nothing that requires research" -> this lmao. could i help myself anyway? no. i went and retrieved my laptop from the dining room and brought it to bed to start digging into this. me at 10:15pm:
Tumblr media
but here’s the deal: there’s no way in hell i can give you my fave fics of ALL time. i’ve been reading fic for many years, some of them on sites that no longer exist. there are several “sorry, this fic has been deleted!” entries in my ao3 bookmarks. a lot of those years were also in the hp fandom, which is not a topic i’m willing to revisit given the situation now, despite the fact that i read many incredible hp fics & crossovers.
also, my memory is swiss cheese! but i can give you 5 fics that come to mind as ones i’ve revisited time and time again over the years. for many of these, i feel an enduring gratitude for it as a work that introduced me to the author(s) as someone whose writing i want to follow. & some of them became buddies which is! cool! for me. it’s an hour past my bedtime now so here’s what springs to mind:
you’re magic & you’re real by @unicyclehippo and @possibilistfanfiction (who also has a bunch of tumblr ficlets for this au under #gaf au) [the 100, clexa] it’s been 7 years and i still reread it at least annually. the universe, this version of these characters - it is precious to me. tender.
You Still Make Sense to Me (Your Mess is Mine) by @emilyjunk [pitch perfect, bechloe] angie is going to kill me for this in the morning because she wants it to be forgotten she ever wrote bechloe lmao but! despite that! i still reread this regularly. they’re so dumb and i love them so much. i can’t keep saying ‘tender’ yet that’s how i feel about this one too!
Something Suspiciously Close to Hope by @hedaswolf [the 100/Stranger Things crossover, clexa] ok, i did watch most of the first season of stranger things before it got too scary for me and never picked it up again. however, the wholesome ache this induces is the right palate cleanser for certain kinds of despair.
The Key to Byzantium by MarcusRowland [buffy/stargate sg1 crossover] wildcard, stargate was my parents’ fandom when i was a kid lmao. a decade and a half and it’s just a casual thing i want to have fun bopping to every so often!
the wn fandom has so so so many incredible fics & writers, but the fandom is too new to have any idea yet of what fics will endure for me. but so far show me something of a reckoning by @lucytara [warrior nun, avatrice] is something i have already reread… a ridiculous number of times. some phrases in this are so delicious & sticky for my brain that when i was writing pnw au i actually had to go check to make sure i wasn’t accidentally plagiarizing (and caught it a few times, whoops!)... it's absolutely incredible. have a good feeling about the staying power on this one.
The Adviser (17/45) | Bechloe Mafia AU
These Grand Schemes - Chapter Preview (read the rest at ao3)
"Why are you even here?" Flo asked dryly as the tenants, minus their beloved lawyers and Emily, all gathered in her canteen for their weekly informal gatherings.
Who was she asking?
Bumper, Donald, and this random guy who was constantly on a unicycle that they just happen to call Unicycle.
Amy has been just as curious as Flo herself. The last few days, they've seen the three of them keeping a low profile and working on opening an office in the tower. Now, Bumper was here with a basket of fruits and a stack of calling cards.
"I think we should just call Beca and the others," Jessica then noted.
"Nonononononono," Bumper quickly rambled on. "Please, we're here to make peace not war. We're actually opening a travel agency, here," he went on to say, handing each of them a calling card.
"Bye Bye Balloon?" Ashley asked sounding incredibly confused.
"Yes! We're the premiere travel agency for those wanting to escape the country… I mean travel via hot air balloon, weather permitting." Bumper then said.
"Why?" Stacie then asked just as dryly as Flo did. "What new ploy is this to kick us out?"
"Not a ploy, ma'am," Donald then said.
"Do I look like a ma'am to you?" Stacie then asked with a raise of an eyebrow.
"No, no, s-sorry," Donald quickly apologized.
Bumper asked his associate to step aside and walked towards Amy and her fellow long-time tenants. He bowed down and muttered his apologies.
"We got off to a bad start, and that's probably because we were bad, but we're good now, I promise! We had a chilling epiphany, let's just say. And we're totally against Babel now too. So please, forgive us! Find mercy in your heart!"
"They seem sincere enough," Amy noted, and Bumper all but beamed at her with tears in his eyes. "But you'll have to understand, we're still a little wary. It's gonna take time for us to accept your sincerity."
"Oh, we know, we know! We're willing to do anything to prove to you all our sincerity. I for one surely am eager too!" Bumper then replied.
"Anything you say?" Amy then said.
"I still think you guys have an ulterior motive," CR then noted.
"Maybe they heard about the gold," Benji then let slip.
To which everyone else responded with "Shhhhhhhhhh!"
Lilly specifically looked about ready to slice and dice him up for opening his mouth about it.
"Gold?" Donald then asked, looking incredibly confused.
"It's just a tall tale," Denise quickly then said. "Buried treasure in the building or so they say, but it's all totally fake."
"Well, we don't know about any buried gold, but I do know a prospector if you all need help. To show you our gratitude, I'll connect you to him, and if he does find any, you guys don't need to share with us!" Bumper then said. "Just, let us stay here with you guys, please!"
"But the gold doesn't exist, it will be a waste of time," Stacie argued and Lilly all but nodded fervently in agreement. Amy herself wasn't so sure about what the hullaballoo about the gold was but the two of them were sure acting suspicious about it.
The rest of the tenants discussed it, however, eager to prove to themselves whether or not the gold was real.
"You're on probation," Flo then said.
The three former Trebles looked incredibly relieved. Amy wasn't sure where all this talk about prospectors and gold will lead to, but looking at Bumper, she could at least guarantee that there will be colorful days ahead of them.
we can’t have bechloe without “i need to take a shower” “love it. let’s go”👀✨
so i apologize that this turned out to be packed with more emotion than it needs to be but!! i still hope y’all like <33
This time when Chloe wakes up (she woke up a short while ago but it was still dark and even a hard core morning person like she is she was not going to be getting up at the butt crack of dawn on her day off) she wakes up to the sight of Beca smiling at her.
They are still tangled in the bedsheets they messed around in last night, and the smell of sex lingers in the air even as a crack in their bedroom window attempts to lure it out. Chloe wrinkles her nose, putting her arm under her chin so that her face isn't planted in the mattress with the position that she is laying on.
"Hey."
Beca's smile stretches a little wider. "Hey yourself. Are you always this beautiful when I'm the person who's awake the first time around? 'Cause if so I think I'll be setting up an alarm to be awake before you now."
Chloe closes her eyes and laughs with a sleepy exhaustion into the crook of her elbow. "I went back to sleep after looking at the clock earlier at five, Bec. But sure. If you think you're up for it."
Many people don’t know this but sometimes Chloe is the person who is the more “unromantic” of the pair. Ever since she started dating Beca (finally, dear god) a couple of years ago, she has dropped the notion that was ingrained into her at a young age that if she wanted to fall in love with and be with her “forever person” she would have to be who that person wanted her to be: which was typically happy, sunshine-y, everything was fine and no matter how many times people try to kick me down I will always try to get back up and smile about it, kinda deal.
But Beca doesn’t want her to be like that. She wanted Chloe to be who she herself wanted to be and if she isn’t happy all the time... well, that’s perfectly fine, because everybody has feelings and Beca loves her all the more for them because it shows that she trusts Beca enough to show her how dark or cynical they can be.
So Chloe shows them, and drops that notion, and her heart beats and leaps for the tiny person who she adores most in the entire world.
Even when that person likes to be cheesy from time to time.
For someone who grouches whenever she has to watch movies, Beca sure knows how to talk like a movie character right out of a rom-com: soft and sweet and corny, with romance sprinkled delicately in the simplest of one-liners.
At Chloe’s response to her earlier remark, Beca pouts. Her bottom lip protrudes out about an inch from her upper one and Chloe finds herself rolling her eyes at the gesture, even when her finger walks up from Beca’s jaw to touch it. “I can wake up in the mornings before you do if I want to. I have the determination to do so, just to watch you sleep next to me.”
The hum that Chloe emits right then is to disguise the choking sensation that she feels clogging up her throat. It’s times like these, when Beca makes her feel wanted and loved and genuinely liked (not to mention understood, there are fewer and fewer of those people now in her life, even her own parents have no idea why she does the things that she does ninety-nine percent of the time) that Chloe wants to cry, because she has finally found her forever person and she didn’t have to give up or suppress any part of her personality to do it. She has done so much giving in relationships like the one she now shares with Beca in the past, some even lasting longer than, and not once has she felt like she received as much back. Not like with Beca.
No, with Beca it’s an equal amount. It makes Chloe feel secured, real, down to the Earth that she stands on.
“Weirdo.” She takes Beca’s endearments for her, adopts to them, and then reciprocates, because they are in a committed relationship and because she just...can. You’re a stalker weirdo.” Chloe leans over, kisses her girlfriend right on the lips. “And I love you.”
Beca kisses her back. Her hand slides across the bare skin of Chloe’s shoulders to tangle into her hair, bunching lightly. Chloe huffs out a sigh, falling forward, shifting herself so that she fits comfortably between Beca’s legs.
Beca immediately bucks her hips. Chloe can tell what she wants, can feel it in the needy whimper spilling from Beca’s mouth, but she stalls.
They have things to do today- errands, appointments, adult things. Beca knows this, has cleared her schedule at work for it, and it is the reason why they are making out in the middle of their queen-sized bed in the first place instead of rushing off to their respective demanding jobs. Being a highly successful music producer calling out the shots on her own clients does not mix well with Chloe’s veterinary surgeon title at the medical facility in the center of town, and whenever they are not busy working, they are either making out, hanging out, or having sex. It leaves little time for anything else and coupled with the desire to do more things with Beca than just getting in her pants as well as not wanting to feel alone when she has to deal with “not so happy things” (she has to have dinner with her brother that evening who is visiting), Chloe has convinced Beca to carve out one day every other week just for them to hack through all of their adult responsibilities.
It works, but only if Chloe has to step on the brakes whenever Beca becomes really handsy.
Like now.
Chloe pulls her mouth away from Beca’s when she feels Beca’s foot sneak up her thigh. “Bec. We need to stop.”
“But I don’t want to.”
And only if Chloe is adamant about it. However difficult it may be (it feels extremely good whenever Beca needs her and she needs her back- when there is a give and a take). “We have to.” She pecks the erratic jump of Beca’s pulse, but doesn’t bite it like her brain begs her to because if she does, they are done for. “We can continue after we return from the dinner. I’ll be all yours, and we can do whatever we want. Sound good?”
Beca swallows. Her eyelids cover the majority of her gaze, shadowing it dark, contemplative. Chloe knows that she is in, then. “Yeah.”
“Cool.” Chloe gives one last kiss, before allowing the sheets to slip down her waist. She swings her legs over the edge of their bed. “Now, I need to take a shower.”
“Love it. Let’s go.”
Chloe looks back her in surprise. “But-”
It is like Beca is in physical pain with the exaggerated way she groans at the ceiling. “Relax, I just wanna wash your hair, okay? No funny business.”
And Chloe laughs and pulls Beca off towards their bathroom, even though she is sure that is not what they are actually going to be ending up doing. Because she knows that if it does escalate it will be on Chloe’s terms, and only hers.
She decides that it will. Just a little bit. For old times sake.
And because Beca accepts her for she is. Not when she is happy and romantic, but when she is not. Beca causes Chloe to be all those things, not the other way around, like others would think.
Nobody can be sunshine and rainbows all the time. There is rain, and also the ground, and sometimes people like Chloe would just like to find an anchor to help lower her head from the clouds.
And Chloe found it.
Beca.
I Hate College (But Love Gettin' Laid)
pairing: bechloe
rating: e for that totally real second meeting that happened between the activities fair and titanium where they hooked up at a party. idk i don't make the rules here i'm just along for the ride
summary:
It was a semi-shocking sight when Beca first noticed her about twenty minutes ago. She was objectively hot, of course, being all long legs, blue eyes, and soft-looking red hair, but the first impression Beca had when she met her around a week ago was that she was the ultimate innocent girl-next-door type. The redhead had been smiley, sweet, and wearing a dress that looked like it came straight out of a J. Crew catalog.
Clearly, in the darkened lights of a frat house basement, that changed a little.
Beca didn’t mind at all.
Read on AO3!
[someone needs to stop me. these are progressively going downhill i can already tell. that summary reads like a bad porno]
Fanfiction is like free cookies 🍪 Now that I’ve got your attention, let’s talk about commenting on fics. Don’t worry, this post will not try to guilt you into leaving comments/reblogging/etc. Allow me to use this cozy little metaphor to, instead, encourage you to do that. Imagine that fanfiction sites are huge fairs where bakers (writers) offer delicious cookies (or anything else, really, it could be lasagnas if that’s what you're into). Best part? They’re all for free! That’s right, you can take as many as you want, whenever you want – some of the bakers are nocturnal and will have a fresh batch waiting for you at 4 a.m., which is, perhaps, not the best time to eat cookies, but honestly, who cares 🤷‍♀️ There are very few rules and limitations at the cookie fair. You can stick to just one type of cookie, or try them all. You can come by once a month to eat exactly one cookie or set out camp right on the premises and munch on multiple cookies at once. As long as you don’t cause chaos and destruction, you’re fine. You can just grab a cookie and go, no one’s going to stop you. Would it have no consequences whatsoever though? Not exactly. The bakers can see all the traffic at their stands – they know how many people came by and which kinds of their cookies disappeared the quickest. Now picture this: one of the bakers has just tried a new recipe. But because barely anyone offered any feedback, how could the baker know if people even liked the cookies? Maybe they grabbed them, took a bite, and threw the rest in the trash? Or maybe they did find them tasty, but how can the baker now figure out which ingredient won people’s hearts? Of course, the bakers bake primarily for themselves, they love doing that, but sharing their goods with other people is what they love the most. It may certainly be dispiriting when they receive nothing in return. And nobody wants the bakers to be sad – they’re gonna cry over the bowls of cookie dough and the cookies will not be sweet anymore 🥺 Or worse, they might stop baking altogether... What can the fair-goers do to prevent that? Well, a kind smile (kudos/likes/faves) would be the polite thing to do when someone offers you a free cookie. It may seem small, but when you look closely, it makes the bakers smile, too, and they stand a little taller for the rest of the day. If you talk to them though, you’ll soon realize that’s where the real benefits (to both sides) come from. Not all of us are great with words – no problem, you can just say a simple 'thank you', or 'hey, I like your cookies'. It will let the bakers know their work is appreciated, so they’ll be much more likely to come back to the fair regularly. Once you get that down, try telling them what it is you like about their cookies the most – a specific flavor, extra crunchiness, a delightful smell – get into some detail and the bakers are gonna love you forever! It will likely motivate them to prepare a new batch faster and encourage them to try new recipes. They are also going to think about your words fondly while they hum happily in their kitchens, working on new treats. Pretty neat, huh? Tl;dr: feedback → cookies, no feedback → no cookies. Seems like a pretty simple choice 😉 If you’re still with me, let me first apologize for making you crave cookies. If it’s any consolation, I did that to myself, too. And secondly, if you could reblog this post, that would be cool ❤
Some thoughts about my favorite piece of fiction that I needed to put into words
Experimentation is finished and it makes me feel things. So many things, in fact, that my brain has trouble computing it. If there was a dictionary stored in my mind’s library, filled with my own definitions for every object, concept, or being I’ve encountered in my life, the entry to Experimentation would be a long string of keysmashes and random emojis.
There are words inside Beca. She's confident enough in her vocabulary to say that there are a decent amount of them, though she can't always remember which one is the right one to use and when or how. They're all there though, she has access to them.
Usually
Alas, I need to make at least some sense of it – for myself, to process the fact that the story that has been a constant for me for years is now finished. Naturally, finished does not mean gone, and I’m sure I will be re-reading this wonderful piece of fiction many, many times, but there is certain grief to be processed nonetheless.
I’ve never been one to have hyperfixations. Growing up, I never had strong favorites of anything, be it books, tv shows, songs, etc. I enjoyed things, I got excited over them, but nothing could ever capture my interest and hold it for a long time.
Startled, Beca blinks as she untangles herself from the redhead and looks around. Sure enough, there are other people besides Chloe present – Cynthia Rose, Stacie and Lilly, to be exact – and she tries to withhold her embarrassment in favour of pretending she'd know that all along. That she hadn't been blinded by Chloe.
This changed when I accidentally discovered bechloe. The Pitch Perfect franchise is not especially popular in my country and I, similarly to Beca Mitchell, am not very fond of movies, so I was not aware of the existence of the said movies until I watched a Rose&Rosie video in which they mentioned it in passing. It sounded like something I could enjoy, so I decided to check it out and the rest is history; I fell into the bechloe hole. I was 19 at that time—technically an adult, about to start uni, and there I was, developing my first (and so far only) obsession, as well as joining my first fandom. I’d read some fanfiction before that, for a few other fandoms, but I’d never shipped two characters as intensely as I do Beca and Chloe.
So naturally, as soon as I finished watching the movies (there were two, at that time), I went looking for fanfiction. I read through the completed ones first—not all of them, obviously (even back then there were...a lot of fics), but I’d say the majority of multichapters—so it took quite a while before I even considered starting any of the unfinished ones.
“Awesome.” She mutters, clicking down furiously on the mouse pad in the hopes that doing so will magically make her laptop thaw its way back from freezing glitchiness. Maybe her dad would buy her a new one if she told him she needed it for school.
“If this is some new way you have of announcing my presence to the room,” red hair and a sly smile greet her as she looks up and finds Chloe lingering at the top of the staircase, “I like it.”
I don’t know when exactly I first started reading Experimentation, but it must have been either 2017 or early 2018 at the latest. I’ve been eyeing the story for a while, as it was on the first page on ff.net (the only fic site I knew at that time—shameful, I know) when filtered by favorites, so I expected it to be good. Having finished the first chapter, I could already tell that it was not, in fact, good.
(On the off chance that anyone is actually reading my stream of consciousness, I shall explain myself before I get hate anons. See, to say that Experimentation is a good story is like saying that Aretha Franklin was a good singer. Ridiculous understatement is what it is.)
"I could carry around like a little white flag and wave it around at the appropriate time?" Chloe bursts out laughing at the image, at the way Beca has made a fist with her hand and is flicking an imaginary flag back and forth, at the stupid too-wide smile she's plastered onto her face. She laughs because she believes, without a shadow of a doubt, that Beca would do that if Chloe asked her to.
I was absolutely enchanted, hooked from the very first paragraphs. Every aspect of this fic was beyond perfect; the language, the pacing, the characterization, the romantic tension with no unnecessary drama. I’ve devoured all the chapters there were at that time, as stopping was impossible once I started. Once I got to the last one, I wondered briefly whether I should have waited until the story was finished.
I am so incredibly thankful to my past self that I did not.
Waiting for updates for months was hard, sure. But it made me appreciate every single chapter all the more. It allowed me to savor every sentence, enjoy every tender moment between the girls. And the joy I felt whenever I would get an email notifying me that Experimentation was updated? Unparalleled. I still have a folder in my mailbox created specifically to house these notifications.
“Thank you,” Chloe’s words of appreciation swing Beca’s gaze back up to her face and she finds the redhead looking at her with such a sense of solemn gratitude that it upends any potential response. Thankfully, Chloe continues. “For everything. Not just,” she gestures between them, “this but….” Chloe trails off, running the fingers of one hand through her hair as she tries to collect herself. “For joining the Bellas. For coming back even though Aubrey was awful to you. For making us important to you.”
You are important to me , Beca wants to say. The most important.
I can’t even imagine reading Experimentation for the first time in one go. A few weeks, months maybe, if one’s busy, and that’s it? That is not nearly long enough to be able to fully appreciate this masterpiece. I started reading it a few years after its first update, but still, Experimentation was with me for long years. It was there, sitting in a tab on my phone when I started university. It was there, five years later, when I graduated and then defended my MA thesis. It was there when I moved out of my parents’ house, moved to a new city, found my first job. And it was there, on the first day of 2022, when I read the last chapter.
During this last chapter I cried three times—one was at the author’s note. What an incredible journey it has been. Now that there’s only an epilogue left, I am sad that it’s over because it’s been such an important part of my life. But mostly I am just filled with love for Experimentation. Just because it is completed, doesn’t mean it is gone or forgotten. I know it will always be special to me, a source of comfort whenever I need it.
“You’re a ten,” Chloe says again and now Beca can hear the warble in her voice. Can feel it like something tangible as it reaches inside her chest and squeezes. Catches her breath in its hand and holds it. “You’re an A-plus.” It’s only when Chloe lifts her hands to wipe at the underside of her eyes that Beca realises she’s crying, sees the shimmer of tears on her fingers as she crosses her arms over her chest. “I love you so much.” Her voice catches, stumbles over a sob in the middle of her declaration, but she powers on through. Doesn’t hold back. “I’ve never loved anyone the way I love you.”
@redlance, you absolute queen, what could I possibly say to you? You took a piece of your heart, shaped it into this beautiful story, and shared it with hundreds of strangers who now hold it in their own hearts. If there are any words appropriate for that, I do not know them. So let me simply say thank you and I love you <3
Winter has come quietly to Barden, the snow having fallen over the first December night. The white, shimmery stamp of approval marked the beginning of the holiday season in the Bella household. With wide eyes and happy squeals, its occupants eagerly got to work, decorating the house with garlands, wreaths, paper ornaments, and whatever else could be found in the boxes that had been bravely recovered from the basement.
It was now evening and the whole house was bathed in the warm glow of the Christmas lights. The Bellas were sprawled all over the living room, cozy in their fluffy pajamas, about to start their first Christmas movies marathon of the season.
Chloe was sitting at the kitchen table, half-listening to the constant chatter of her fellow sisters coming from the living room as she watched Beca prepare hot cocoa for the both of them. It's been happening more and more lately–Chloe catching herself looking at Beca, a soft smile always present on her lips whenever her best friend was around. She couldn’t help it; Beca was so nice to look at, and Chloe was so in love with her, how could she not look? Especially now that Beca has been single for the past couple of months. Also, Chloe caught Beca looking at her enough times to not feel guilty about her own staring.
Recently, there’s been a subtle shift between them. On the surface, not much has changed, but nowadays, their every interaction seemed to have an undercurrent of something else, something deeper than a close friendship. Gazes and touches lingered, smiles were wider, voices softer. They communicated without words, anticipating each other's needs with an ease born of hours spent at each other’s side. Even the rest of the Bellas seemed to sense the change, as they eased down on their teasing, seemingly waiting with bated breaths for something to finally happen.
As if sensing Chloe’s eyes on her, Beca turned away from the counter, her gaze instantly finding Chloe’s. She sent her an easy smile as she put a mug of steaming cocoa to her lips, taking a careful sip and swallowing with a small, satisfied sigh that sent a shiver down Chloe’s spine. Once Beca lowered the mug, Chloe noticed a brown smudge that the drink left around Beca’s lips.
Her body moved without a conscious command, covering the small distance between them in a few strides, and Chloe blinked in surprise as she found herself standing right in front of Beca, who looked at her with one brow raised in question, amusement shining in her eyes.
“Can I help you?”
“You, um-” Chloe cleared her throat. “You have a little something…” she said, gesturing at her own mouth.
“Oh!” Beca blindly swiped a hand over her face, only smudging the cocoa remnants more.
Chloe giggled softly, raising her hand towards Beca’s face. “Here, let me…”
Gently, Chloe moved her thumb over Beca’s cheek toward her lips. She shivered again as Beca opened her mouth slightly in a quiet exhale. Without thinking, Chloe slowly brought her thumb to her mouth, licking it clean under Beca's intent gaze.
“Did you get it?” Beca’s voice was a bit rough as she whispered the question.
“Almost.”
There it was again, the tension that’s been present in all of their interactions lately, growing more insistent the longer they stayed in each other’s orbits. Beca’s tongue peeking out to absentmindedly lick her own lips proved to be the tipping point. All coherent thoughts have long since left Chloe and she could only act on pure instinct and adrenaline. With her heart pounding wildly in her chest, she slowly, very slowly, leaned in, eyes trained on Beca’s face, looking for any indication that she should back away. Not seeing any, she closed the remaining distance, dragging her tongue over the same spot her thumb has just traced, catching the corner of Beca’s lips and lingering there for a heartbeat or two.
Beca’s soft gasp so close to her ear made Chloe pull away, but she only made it an inch or two before Beca’s hands appeared on both sides of her face, pulling her in for a kiss.
The gentle pressure of Beca's lips on hers was enough to stun Chloe for what was probably only a few seconds but felt so monumental to Chloe that she might as well have lived a lifetime in this tiny pocket of time. She’s wanted this for so long that she could barely believe it was actually finally happening.
Getting over the initial shock, Chloe placed her slightly shaking hand on Beca’s cheek, angling her face to kiss her more fully. She was rewarded with a tiny whimper from Beca, and Chloe might have made some kind of sound in response but she couldn’t be sure, as all of her attention was focused on the girl in her arms, on the softness of her lips, on hands holding onto her desperately, on the divine scent that Chloe couldn’t get enough of. The world might have been ending and Chloe would not care, everything that existed to her in that moment was Beca, Beca, Beca…
Once they eventually managed to separate, Chloe was met with her favorite sight–Beca smiling at her with this wide, radiant smile that seemed to be reserved specifically for Chloe. Beca was looking at her with an expression so tender, so full of what could only be described as love, that it made Chloe’s knees weak.
Needing a moment to ground herself, she lowered her head and focused on regulating her breathing. Beca took this opportunity to press a lingering kiss on her forehead. Chloe closed her eyes, reveling in the sensation of warm lips on her skin and the tenderness of the gesture.
It was then that her senses slowly started to pick up the signals from her surroundings and Chloe furrowed her brows in confusion as she heard some peculiar noise that sounded like someone trying to smother a boiling kettle with a pillow, without much success.
Beca must have heard it, too, as they both turned their heads at the same time, looking for the source of the noise.
There, in the kitchen entrance, a mere few feet away from them, stood Emily. She was visibly vibrating with excitement as she tried to muffle the constant stream of high-pitched squeals with one hand, the other flailing about wildly. Noticing that she’s been spotted, she made a few steps back before turning around and all but running to the living room. Chloe could bet that the youngest Bella would be telling the rest of the girls what she’s witnessed as soon as she’s able to form words.
Shaking her head, Chloe turned back to Beca and they shared a bemused look.
“Was she standing there the whole time?” Beca asked.
Chloe hummed thoughtfully. “I’m not sure… Maybe?”
Hi Cole. I don't think you and I have ever interacted before but I saw your post the other day about why you aren't in the Bechloe fandom anymore and it made me really sad. You were always one of my favorite authors in that fandom and it sucks that you and so many other very talented authors have moved away from it because of the toxicity of a large number of people. I will never understand the need to be cruel, mean and rude to other people.
I also want you to know that Favorite Record remains near the top of my best Bechloe fics list. It got me through a really rough time when my mom was sick and ultimately passed away. I'll be honest, it makes me sad I can't revisit it when I'm feeling down and need a pick me up, although I totally understand why you took everything down.
Also, don't judge me, but I have a Favorite Records playlist. I wrote down the songs you used at the beginning of each chapter and when I found the list a while ago, I made a playlist with the songs I had written down. Weird I know!
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your talent and wanted to say thanks for being such an amazing artist/creator/writer! So, thanks! Please take good care!
im glad you found solace in something i made, and im truly sorry for your loss. its a real shame that it came to this but its come to a point where i cant even see the word bechloe without getting annoyed and sad. hopefully that’ll pass with time though. i do appreciate your kind words so much, but i just really want to not be associated anymore yknow
what made you decide to start writing PP stories ?
i’ve been contemplating my answer for hours now bc honestly this could turn into such a long story
the pretty short answer is: i’d been reading fics on and off for many many years across so many fandoms, and back in 2018 i was thinking over many things abt myself while also going through quite a major depressive episode and basically contemplating my whole life sfghjkfgh
so then fast forward to the beginning of 2020. at that time i was also getting back into pp and diving into some fics, which literally helped me realise my sexuality fully. on one of the fics the author was like, come find me on tumblr! so i was like screw it, let’s make a tumblr
that’s how i got into the fandom, how i started interacting with some wonderful writers and amazing people. a couple of months later there was that bechloe event called “weekly bechloe”. four prompts across four weeks, one prompt per week. and bc i’ve loved and done writing my entire life i was like, i could write something for this
so i wrote the first chapter of my first ever fic (it was supposed to be an one shot at the time) and i talked myself into posting it. that was the first ever complete thing i wrote. this fandom gave me so much right out of the gate, so i was finally free enough and motivated enough to write and express myself and compete a story (ofc then that fic kept on going but that’s a different matter sdfghjk) and then it kept me motivated enough to turn my life around some, and also complete a book i was writing at the time
so what my answer actually is, i suppose, it’s that i never “decided” anything. this fandom, the characters and the real people i met through it, gave me the push and freedom to be me. the rest was just a blessing
The One Where She Comes To Your Door
“I hate this, I hate this, I hate this...” Beca stood back as she waited to see the doorhandle turn.
“If it’s a lockout, ask for the on duty,” came a faint reply.
“Chloe I–” she didn’t let Beca finish.
“One sec.”
The door swung open, revealing Chloe, pen in hand, bringing it to her lips as she let out a slow draw. Bold, considering her position.
“Okay hi.”
“Hi Beca,” Chloe said sweetly. Her long shirt reached nearly to her knees, barely tucked in to show that she was, in fact, wearing shorts underneath.
“Excuse my like... general state of being.” Chloe looked her up and down, her eyebrow cocking. “I’m not going to mention it and probably let’s agree to like... not talk about this moment apart from right now because I’m very sorry for what I’m about to say.”
Chloe just blinked back at her, her mouth moving to speak.
“–And I’m sure you’re like ‘don’t apologize’ but chances are this,” Beca rocked back forth on her heels, sans shoes, as she blushed and looked towards the ground “is going to make life very awkward, so sorry. In advance. Again.”
Chloe gave a curious nod at the brunette.
  “I just- I wanted to let you know that I really liked you last spring. Like around the same time, actually. And this,” Beca gestured between the two of them, “is beginning to feel like that.” She stopped. “In a good way.... I think.”
She dared to look up at the taller girl. “But I can’t do this whole guessing thing again. I’m tired of thinking about it, Chloe.” She paused, thinking this was probably the last normal conversation she’d have with the girl, she’d be so freaked out after this. Beca had considered it, but it had been years and the universe had made Chloe her damn RA and she could not escape the girl’s tendency to draw her in.
“And I don’t know if you feel the same,” Beca stopped, wanting to backtrack, “or if you ever really did, actually- but I’m just saying if you do let me know or something?” Beca felt like she was losing air. Actually, she was pretty sure she astro-projected all the way back to her room down the hall because she pretty much didn’t remember the last 35 seconds she’d been standing at the door. “And obviously it’s not a serious thing like we’re in a pandemic and everything but we’re here so.” Beca turned to go, not wanting to hear whatever Chloe wanted to say.
She turned around.
“Also I feel like part of me is totally wrong but you made that comment about trying to date me and I CANNOT get it out of my head so truly, honestly you should blame yourself,” she said quickly, shrugging as she turned back to the girl in the doorway. “That’s all,” Beca said for her parting words to the redhead. Time to overthink herself to sleep and hope that she didn’t have an angry redhead at her door in the morning.
A quick Bechloe drabble bc im getting back in that MOOD of writing haha. Inspired by a new playlist im working on called hammocking w a pretty girl
“You know, its more comfy if you lay down Beca,” Chloe insisted, staring at Becas figure from her spot in the hammock.
“Where?” Beca chuckled. “The only stop to lay is ontop of you.”
Chloe smiled. Beca was so cute when she got like this, all flustered about personal space and all. She sat up and gently placed her hand on Becas arm. “That cant be such a bad thing?” Chloe winked just as she had all those years ago at their first hood night.
“I mean-“ Beca started but didnt get the chance to finish. Chloe was pulling her down to snuggle half ontop of her, legs quickly intertwining.
“Comfy now Bec’s?” She smiled, watching Beca squirm a little until her nose was in the crook of Chloes neck.
“Yeah, comfy” Beca smiled, wrapping an arm around the older womans stomach where her shirt had ridden up. “Very.” She whispered, slipping her fingertips beneath the fabric.
