It sucks when your whole life gets turned upside down. A group of friends being torn apart because of an adulterous act. Derek had come home one night to see his wife Addison Montgomery in bed with his best friend Mark Sloan... Mark Sloan just happened to be the boyfriend of y/n L/n. Both Addison and Mark cheated on Derek and y/n. Ruining their relationships forever.
Y/n felt terrible, her heart ached. She felt like she should have seen it coming, she thought she should have seen the signals. She was mad and heartbroken when I found out Mark cheated on her with Addison. Most of all, she was angry at Addison for cheating on Derek. Derek was y/n’s best friend and seeing him that heartbroken hurt worse.
Derek hated both Addison and Mark. Not only did they ruin his relationship and marriage, but they also hurt y/n as well. Derek was so upset that he decided to leave town. He was tired of the lies from Addison and Mark. He just wanted to move on. He knew he couldn't if he stayed there. That's when he and y/n made the move to Seattle together.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
They both got drunk the first night they were in Seattle. Derek and her went to this small bar that was across the street from the hospital. Y/n never got drunk, she didn't like drinking but that's just how the night went. And too bad it took them being drunk to realize there was something between them.
Once they got drunk Derek started noticing things about her he had never noticed before. He started to see her in a new light. It made him see how beautiful she was. His feelings for her grew the more drunk they got.
“God I hate him” y/n rambled about Mark. “I wish I never fell in love with him”
Derek listened to everything y/n had to say. He hated that she loved a man like Mark. She deserved so much better. Derek couldn't wait to show her how much better he was for her…
“I hate her too” y/n sighed then looked over at Derek, there was just something there she hadn't noticed before. They always had some kinda connection, but always played it off as being best friend
She noticed his smile, his blue eyes. She always considered him a platonic soulmate, but maybe... Just maybe there was something more. Derek looked over at y/n. Her lips looked so soft. Her hair was perfectly curled. She stood out like a diamond, She was beautiful. Derek had never thought he would feel this way towards her. But as the night went on he realized there was something inside of him that was growing for her. He realized that he was falling in love with her. He had never felt this way before for anyone.
They both sat there wondering what would have happened if they chose each other instead of Mark and Addison. Derek always wondered what it would be like if y/n chose him over Mark. If y/n had chosen him, Addison would never have broken his heart. Would they have settled down with each other and had children? Had a family? The thoughts were racing through Derek's mind while he continued to stare at y/n. He wanted to make his move.
“Why are you looking at me like That?” she chuckled drunkenly.
Derek didn't realize that his lustful gaze was showing. He felt his cheeks burn red from embarrassment. He cleared his throat. “because your beautiful”
She blushed and looked away. “your just saying that”
Derek wanted her to know she was beautiful and he wasn't just saying that. He moved closer to her. “no. I mean it. You're so beautiful. I've never told you that before. But I'm gonna tell you now. You're gorgeous…”
She don't know what possessed her, but she placed her hand on his jaw and pressed her lips to his. Derek was absolutely shocked when y/n pressed her lips to his, that she had initiated it first. He pulled away, staring into her eyes. “Mark is stupid for letting something as amazing as you go” Derek whispered, he had been wanting this for so long. Derek immediately placed his hands on her hips and pulled her close to him. He kissed her with all the emotion and longing that had built up inside of him. He wanted her and he was going to get her.
Her lips parted and gently brushed her tongue against his lips, running her fingers through his hair
He kept kissing her deeply as he ran his hands up her torso, towards her neck. Derek couldn't wait to explore every inch of her.
Y/n slowly pulled away, resting her forehead against his as she tried to catch her breath and tried to focus my drunken mind. Now all logic was throwing away, she inched her face closer to his again, nudging her nose against his, hovering her lips over his. She couldn't get enough of the intoxicating scent of his cologne. Her eyes were fixed downward,watching his hands roam the outline of her body.
Derek's hands wrapped around her waist as he pulled her closer to him. They were both losing reason and logic. They were caught up in the moment. Derek felt their warmth building between them and it was turning him on, He wanted more. His hands wandered up her back now and they slowly ran through her hair. The smell of lavender wafted up to his nose and he was lost in her.
Before things could get too far, y/n pressed her hands to his chest, stopping him. “you wanna get out of here?”
Derek quickly nodded. “yeah, let's get out of here”
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
As soon as they got back to the trailer, her lips were back on his, the kiss was messy and rushed. Y/n quickly pushed his jacket off his shoulders as he pushed her backwards towards the kitchen counter. She moaned against his lips, running her fingers through his hair. Getting them lost in his soft, perfect hair.
Derek was absolutely stunned by her boldness. This was the moment he had been longing for all this time. He was ecstatic that she was finally showing him this side of her. He threw his coat to the side with the rest of their stuff and began to kiss her with more passion. His hands roamed from her back down her body, giving her ass a squeeze. He was feeling her up the way he had wanted to since the moment he met her.
He couldn't help but want more. His hands squeezed her butt and his lips kept on exploring hers while he moved her back towards the bed. His body was pushed against hers and he leaned her back. There was no going back now. Y/n fell backwards on his bed, pulling him down with her. She moaned softly, tugging on his hair as his lips and the scruff on his jaw brushed against her neck.
Derek loved her reaction, the moans she let out were sending shivers down his spine. Her touch felt so good on him. Derek could feel her body pressing against his. He was enjoying her just as much as she was enjoying him. He wanted to kiss every inch of her. He finally had the chance to make her his and he wasn't going to let her slip away from him.
“D-derek” she moaned softly.
Derek loved how his name coming from her mouth sounded. Hearing her breathless voice gave him everything he needed to continue on with her. His hands ran up and down her body and his lips traveled across her neck and down to her shoulders. His mouth was finally exploring her body in ways that he had wished he could do for so long. His scruff was rough on her soft skin. His lips were gentle and tender. His touch was so hot and passionate. He loved the way she tasted and smelled, every inch of her was perfect to him.
They were running on nothing but alcohol, bottled up feelings, and passion. Their clothes were gone in seconds and they fell into each other's temptations.
--------(1st pov)--------
The next morning I woke up with a hangover, my head was pounding. I looked around and noticed I was in Derek's bed and not my own. I peaked under the covers and we were both naked. Derek was still asleep, I slowly sat up and grabbed his red shirt from last night and covered my bare chest with it. I sat there processing the whole night, I didn't feel regret or anything, but when something feels so good, how can it not be bad. “Derek, wake up” I said, nudging his naked shoulder.
Derek's eyes slowly opened and he sat up from the bed, stretching and yawning. He turned his head in my direction and he froze when he noticed his shirt covering my chest. His eyes grew wide, but there was a smirk on his face.
“So... Umm…” I looked down shyly. “we umm... Last night, didn't we?” I asked softly.
Derek laid on his back, smirking to himself. “yeah… Yeah we did”
I moved my messy hair out of my face. “we're no better than them,” I mumbled, thinking about Addison and Mark. They slept together, they were in the wrong, but what about us?.
Even if I was right or wrong, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief from last night. The bond we formed last night was undeniable. I had wanted him for so long and we finally had our chance. Mark and Addison may have won the battle, but there was this feeling that we were gonna win the war.
I fell backwards in the bed, laying on my back next to him. I rubbed my face processing everything. I didn't regret it one bit, but I wished it happened at a different time. “God... I just had sex with a married man” I mumbled, covering my face.
He rolled over on his side, facing me. He kissed my shoulder with a smirk on his face. “Separated... I'm not with Addison anymore” he kissed my cheek then looked at me with those pretty blue eyes. “and I gotta say... That was the best sex I ever had…”
I uncovered my face and turned my head towards him, smiling. “Dito”
Derek smiled. “Do you... umm... regret what we did last night?”
“No... Do you?” I asked softly.
Derek shook his head in a no. “I wanted to do that for so long.” he leaned forward and brushed his lips against mine for a soft loving kiss.
Derek pulled me close, kissing me deeply with no regrets between us. My heart fluttered as he kissed me passionately. This feeling was so new to me, but definitely wanted. His hands grabbed my hips and pulled me against his chest. The scruff on his jaw hitting my chin and cheeks. I smirked against his lips and placed my hand on his jaw, feeling the scruff that peppered his jaw. I pulled away from the kiss and rested my forehead against his, I rubbed my thumb over his cheek gently. “like this...” I mumbled, referring to his scruff. When he was with Addison he was always clean shaved. She liked it that way, I didn't matter if he wanted to let it grow.
“You like it?” his eyebrow raised with a smirk on his face.
“Yeah... It's sexy”
When he was with Addison he definitely shaved daily. But he was trying keep his scruff now. He liked the way he looked with a little bit of scruff now. He kissed my cheek slowly. “I'll keep it for you then” he smirked again.
I smiled, pulling him down for another kiss and slowly ran my fingers through his hair. I pulled away from the kiss gently. “we need to get ready for work...”
“yeah... First day” Derek chuckled and kissed my nose before climed out of bed.
~~~~~~~~(few months later)~~~~~~~~
I had to admit Seattle was just a better place to be than new York. No one knew us except Richard Webber, he still didn't know about our relationship and that was okay. As the months went by it was made clear that our firsr night here ment everything. We just fit too well together, even if that sounded cheesy. Being beat friends in the past nothing much changed except we were now kissing, cuddling, and having quickies in the shower.
Mark had tried to call me numerous of times, I hadn't awnsered once. I wasn't ready to talk to him, but I think I was ready to forgive him. I had moved on and was happy with Derek, so there was no reason to hate him. Addison is a different story. I couldn't believe it when she showed up in Seattle.
“Addison... what are you doing here?” Derek asked.
I couldn’t even looked Addison in the eyes. I kept my head down and my anger bottled up.
“you would have know if you had botherd to return any one of my phone calls” Addison turned to me. “or awnsered the phone when Mark calls”
“I have nothing to say to him” I said bitterly.
“of course not, your too busy screwing my husband” Addison shot back.
“that's rich” I snapped back. “you were too busy screwing my boyfriend”
Derek grabed my arm, rubbing it affectionately. He stared at Addison with betrayal and anger. “is there something you need? What are you doing here?”
Addison had a smug look on her face as she looked Derek up and down. I couldn't help but feel territorial, but at the same time insucre. I always thought Addison was prettier than me.
“your hair is different” Addison said, dodging the subject. She went to reach for his hair, but I pushed her hand away. Derek smirked slightly, but it disappeared and he turned back to Addison. “a lot of things are different”
“it's longer” Addison continued. “what's your problem?” I asked annoyed.
“what are you doing here?” Derek asked again.
“Relax, guys, I'm here for work. I'm helming the T.T.T.S. case you guys admitted last week. And after Richard's briefing...” Addison said, rolling her eyes.
“bullshit” I said. I didn't believe a word that came out of this woman's mouth. “I swear to God, if you brought Mark with you...”
“it's cute...” Addison started sarcastically. “That whole wide-eyed "ooh, he's a brain surgeon" act you have going on... It's sweet. Which is what you were going for, right? The anti-Addison”
I shook my head, staring daggers into her. She smirked like she had the upper hand now. I didn't know it was possible to love and hate someone so much. Addison was always like an older sister to me, I looked up to her and wanted to be like her. Not now she betrayed me... But in a sences I betrayed her too.
“let's go” Derek said in a hard tone and grabed my hand. I looked into Addison's eyes and showed her nothing but hurt as Derek pulled me away.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
“why is she back!?” I yelled at Derek.
“I don't know! Why are you yelling at me?” Derek snapped back as he paced back and forth in his trailer. I don't know why we were taking this out on each other, it hurt we resorted to this.
“I don't know!” I sighed and sat down on his bed, rubbing my face in frustration. I think we weren't yelling at each other, just yelling in general. We were both frustrated.
Derek sighed and gave me a gental expression. “you know her coming here means nothing, right?”
I looked up at him, I trusted him but I just had to ask. “nothing between us changes?”
His blue eyes stared into my soul. I loved his eyes, I could just drown in them. “nothing changes... Hell, I'll devorce her”
He held his hand out to me and I took it. “I promise” he said softly and knelt infront me where I was setting so we were eye level. “we're not gonna lose each other... Not again”
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
Then Mark came back...
Unlike when Addison showed up, I was just hurt to see him. I hadn't thought about him since me and derek started dating, but when I saw his face all that hurt and betrayal came rushing back.
The first time he visited Seattle he was on the ground and thanks to Derek I was the one that had to stich him him up. Richard sent me and Mark to the ER and Richard was chewing Derek out for the punch. That's when Richard found out about Addison and Mark's affair.
“you look amazing” Mark said as I got out the supplies to stich up his cheek. I ignored him as I tried to keep my anger and disappointment bottled up.
I cleared my throat and placed a towel on his shoulder and tried to get a decent angle to stich his cheek.
“here” Mark mumbled and to my dismay he pulled me in between by my hips so I could be closer. “thats better” he smirked.
I sighed and dropped the tweezers. “you think your funny?”
“I think I'm adorable” he smirked. I rolled my eyes and stiched up the gash. I sighed using the technique mark taught me long ago.
“I missed you... I really do” he said as I placed a bandaged on. I tried to stay silent but Mark wasn't having it. “will you please say something?”
I slammed the tweezers on the tray with a loud clink then turned towrds Mark. “What do you want me to say? I don't want you here and and sure as hell don't want Addison here”
Mark looked down staying silent. “I'm sorry”
I rolled my eyes tired of his sorrys. I did miss him and hell I unfortunately still cared for him, but every time I looked at him all I can think of is him in bed with Addison.
I gulped and looked at him as I felt the tears form. “I'll see ya around Mark”
“bye...” he said barly above a whisper.
--------(3rd pov)--------
Mark and Addison from a far, confused on what they were seeing. They just couldn't understand how fast y/n and derek fell for each other. Addison scolded herself for not seeing the signs earlier, but when she looks back she could see the way Derek looked at y/n.
“Derek never looked at me the way he looks at here” Addison said in a monotone voice.
Mark crossed his arms, staring at the new couple. He feeling so many different things it confused him. He wanted to fix his friendship with Derek, but everytime he saw his arm around y/n he just wanted to break it. Then on the other hand his heart broke seeing y/n smile and derek and not him, but he loved her enough to feel some sorta relief he didn't totally break her and she was happy.
“y/n looked at me like that... Every day we we're together” Mark said. “and I screwed it up big time”
Addison glanced at him, part of her felt fear Mark regreted being with her. It ment she lost two men she loved. She felt selfish for feeling like that, not only did she lose a husband she lost her closest female friend. This whole situation was a mess and she knew it.
Mark glanced at her, his blue eyes showing nothing but pain. “if I could turn back time I would in a heart beat”
Mark still loved her, but he loved her enough to let her go. At least he knew he could trust Derek not to hurt her. “let go of your pride addie, if you think Derek will leave n/n your crazy”
Addison raised an eyebrow at him, like she thought he was some kinda hypocrite. “well, y/n isn't leaving Derek for you”
“yeah... And I just need to learn to deal with that” Mark sighed, giving y/n and derek one last glance before leaving.
Should I Stay, or Should I Go?
Happy Monday! I hope I did this request justice, tried to keep it light with a bit of angst. Not sure where I want these two to end up but let me know what you think!
Requested by the lovely @caseyandsloan
Pairing: Mark Sloan x Fem!Reader (gave her a name but no descriptions used)
Warnings: A bit of Angst, Mark being Mark.
Tumblr media
“Annalise, wait-“
I rolled my eyes at the sound of the familiar voice trailing behind me.
“Don’t you dare ‘Annalise’ me. It’s DOCTOR Grey to you, Doctor Sloan. I have no interest in speaking to you so please go whore yourself to any other attending,”
I continue walking until I reach the nursing bay, pulling out one of my patient’s charts and looking into their case. Mark stood in front of me, and gave me an apologetic smile.
“Fine, “Doctor” Grey, can you please just hear me out. I came to Seattle to find you, to apologize. I want to be part of your life again. What I did was a mistake, but you have to know that I never stopped loving you,” he pleaded, his eyes begging me to believe him.
My heart wavered, feeling a million and one emotions in a span of a few seconds. Our life together flashed before my eyes; our first date, our time during medical school together with our friends, being best man and maid of honor at Derek and Addison’s wedding, finding out we were pregnant. The last memory to cross my mind however, was the scene I walked into back in New York. The way he and my ex-best friend Addison Montgomery, were in bed together. My gaze immediately hardened once more.
“Here’s what you’re NOT going to do, Mark. You’re not going to show up to my place of work and bat your baby blue eyes at me in hopes of me taking you back. You ripped my heart into *shreads* Mark. I loved you. Part of me still does. But you don’t get to prey on that minuscule part of me. Not anymore. Now get the hell out of my sight before I call security,” I could feel my eyes water as I glared at him, the hurt fueling my heart.
Before Mark could say anything else, I heard a voice I’d never been more thankful speaking up from behind me.
“Is everything alright, Annalise?” I turned to find Miranda Bailey staring at me with her arms crossed, turning her head to shoot daggers at Mark. My sister, Meredith, was standing beside her along with the rest of the interns, looking on.
“Everything’s fine Miranda, thank you. Come on Meredith, I think you and Yang on my service today,” I walked forward, hearing my sister’s sneakers trail behind me. Rounding the corner I paused against the nearest wall and let out a deep breath. Meredith came to a short stop behind me.
“So…who was that?”
I scoffed humorlessly. “That, Mer, was Mark Sloan,”
“Wait. THE Mark Sloan? The guy who slept with your best friend? Derek’s best friend?Jolie’s father? THAT Mark Sloan?” Meredith’s eyes widened comically and both she and Christina looked back down the hall, as if trying to catch a glimpse of the man in question.
“Yup. The one and only jackass,” I huffed. I took a deep breath, put on my game face, and pushed off the wall. Mark Sloan had taken so much from me, and I wasn’t going to let him piss me off at my place of work anymore.
“Wait, wait. Derek’s best friend, who slept with Derek’s WIFE was married to you, Derek’s other best friend? What, was this some sort of doctor orgy?” Christina said as we made our way to our first patient.
“First off, we were never married. We were together for six years. But welcome to the Grey-Sloan-Shepherd family dynamic, Yang. Stick around, there’s so much more to come,” I rolled my eyes as we reached the patient’s room. The day continued and I managed to forget about Mark. That is, until I saw Derek punch him in the middle of the nursing bay. I gasped, along with the rest of the on-lookers before following Derek with my eyes as he walked away.
“That was one hell of a punch, Shepherd’s a badass!” I turned to see Alex Karev smirking to George O’Malley who looked like a fish out of water as his eyes trailed between Derek, Mark, Meredith, and finally to me. I raised an eyebrow at him, and he immediately looked away, a deep blush spreading along his cheeks.
I sighed. Fuck, this was going to be one hell of a fucking day.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
The sound of a lunch tray slamming down onto the table tartled me from my deep thoughts. I looked up to see Callie Torres and Miranda Bailey looking at me sheepishly. I nodded and both women sat down, waiting for me to speak first. I rolled my eyes playfully, taking a bite of my carrot.
“Go on, I know you want to ask..”
“Holy SHIT, Anna. THAT’s Mark? He’s fucking hot!” Callie gushed, looking around to make sure the man in question wasn’t around. Bailey scoffed and nudged Callie.
“Torres!”
I laughed at Bailey’s exclamation.
“No, she’s right Miranda. He’s ridiculously hot. But he’s also the biggest asshole on the planet,” I shrugged, taking a sip of my coke.
“Mind if we ask what happened? All we know is that you came to Seattle after breaking up with your ex. There’s definitely more to that if he’s back here begging for you to take him back.” Callie said, smiling sympathetically. I let out a deep breath and allowed myself to think back to the good old days.
“What’s there to tell? He was the love of my life and we were happy. And then he decided to fuck my best friend, in turn hurting both me and HIS own best friend.”
Both women stayed silent, knowing that there was more to come.
“Two years ago Mark and I were the couple that everyone was jealous of. The country’s most well renowned plastic surgeon and cardio thoracic surgeon, tackling New York together. Mark, Derek, Addison and I were truly the best of friends. Addy and I grew up together and when we met Mark and Derek in college the four of us were inseparable. Derek and Addison got married after we all got our PhD’s and Mark and I were over the moon for them.
“A few months after the wedding, I found out I was pregnant. And after seeing how happy Mark was at Derek’s wedding I assumed he’d be just as happy about the baby. I mean, we spoke about our future all the time but I guess it was just all talk to Mark. The second I mentioned I was pregnant, he changed. He started staying late at Cornell, taking on case after case. It was like he was never home. And I didn’t question it, I just assumed he was busy, maybe even working hard to save up for the baby. But one rainy night, Derek and I worked a late together and he offered to drive me back home when we finished up. Since’s Derek and Addison’s place was close by, we walked there so Derek could grab his car from the garage. The second we walked in to the house, we both knew something was up. The sight of a familiar leather jacket on the ground next to a pair of haphazardly tossed heels made my stomach drop. Derek and I shared a glance, both of our hearts breaking simultaneously.
“Derek walked up the steps to his bedroom while I did my best to keep myself from hyperventilating. The second I heard Addison’s gasp and Mark’s voice calling out for Derek, my heart shattered into a million pieces. Derek flew back down the stairs, eyes watery. Our gaze locked and he grabbed his keys and raincoat, pulling me by my hand, doing his best to drag me out of the house but not before a familiar silloutte stood at the top of the stairs.
“Annalise…”
Mark’s voice cracked with shame and my tears finally spilled over. That was the last time Mark and I saw each other. Derek and I immediately went back to the hospital where we spent the night consoling each other in silence. We were shocked. Sick to our stomaches. Devastated. Jolie was born 7 months after that and it’s just been the three of us ever since. I officially made Derek Jolie’s God-Father and we’ve been happy. Mark tried to reach out multiple times but I packed up and left Seattle shortly there after. Changed my number and just lived my life for my little girl.
So watching Derek sucker punch Mark truly made my day. I even got myself a cookie to celebrate,” I took a bite of the cookie in hand and smiled at the women infront of me.
They both looked disheartened and yet happy to have gotten the full story.
“Thank you for telling us Anna. If you need anything at all, we’ve got your back,” Callie said, smiling and placing a hand over mine. Miranda nodded.
“Absolutely. I’ll kick that little shit in the balls if he ever attempts to come near you if I have to,” I laughed and smiled back at them, happy to have friends like them.
Hours passed and I was staring at the OR grease-board while chewing on a twizzler before hearing two familiar voices off to my left.
“Welcome aboard Doctor Sloan, Seattle Grace is proud to have you,”
I turned to see Chief Webber shaking hands with Mark. My mouth dropped open, Derek standing a few feet behind me with the same look on his face. I felt like a fish out of water, my heart racing. Suprise, sadness, fear and rage bubbled inside me and before I knew it, I felt myself explode.
“What the fuck Chief!”
Tumblr media
Please let me know if you’re interested in a part two. Do you think Annalise should forgive Mark down the line, or should a new love interest join in on all the fun?
It always plays on repeat in your mind like a slow motion picture, like a scene in one of those old timey movies where everyone and everything slows down so that the main protagonist can understand the situation unfolding around them.
That moment where your boyfriend of only a few months— Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, told you that he was technically married, haunted you day in and day out. Married to the woman who’d come up to the pair of you in the locker room on base after she’d been transferred to North Island. She’d come waltzing over with a confident smile and a pretty face. She knew she was about to turn your life on its axis.
For better or worse.
“Y/n.” It wasn’t often people actually said your name, majority of the same it was your callsign—but the way the colour drained from Bradleys face as he turned to you with a gut wrenching look smeared across his usually perfect face, had your stomach churning. “I’m so sorry—“
“Hi, I’m Katie Bradshaw—“ The woman, who mind you, was stunning to say the very least, stuck her hand out to shake yours. You took it gracefully, with enough conviction in your grip to not have it show you were completely blindsided by that all too familiar last name.
“Bradshaw?” You smiled softly as you sent Rooster a confusing look. He’d never mentioned a sister or a cousin before in the few months you’d been seeing and sleeping together.
“I’m Rooster's wife—“ Those three words would forever haunt you. “And you must be the woman who’s been screwing my husband?”
“Hey! Siren!” It was Phoenix’s voice that broke you out of the trance you’d fallen into as you showed. Her fist slamming against the shower door three quick and consecutive times made you jump a little as the warm water encapsulated you entirely. “You coming to the Hard Deck?”
“Yeah yeah, just give me a few minutes!” You replied as you washed your face. “I’ll meet you guys over there.” It had only been three weeks since you called it quits with the mustache having aviator who had stolen your heart. The entire situation made you feel dirty. Even if you weren’t the one in the wrong. No amount of showering could wash away the dirty feeling you’d been left with.
What could be worse than being branded the dirty mistress? That no one told you about the cheating scandal that had rocked the Bradshaws' happy marriage about a year ago. That was worse.
Bradley swore black and blue he was going to tell you. He’d sworn the rest of the squad to secrecy about the details too. He wanted to be the one to tell you. To tell you that you were the first woman he’d been with since he’d walked in on his wife, Katie, and his best friend, Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin, in bed together.
Still, the ultimatum was given. You’d asked Bradley to pick you, choose you, love you. But when the time came to decide he chose his wife. His reasonings were none of your business nor concern.
And so you walked away. Labelled the mistress and the interim love affair. Even against the Chester you didn’t compare—and that crushed you completely.
“You’ve been doing that an awful lot lately.” Pennys voice broke through the haze you’d fallen into at the bar. The drink you’d ordered, Gin Sour, sat in front of you on a Hard Deck coaster. “What’s on your mind daydreamer?”
“More like a never ending nightmare Pen.” You sighed before reaching for your drink. “This whole situation makes me feel like I need a lobotomy.”
“Rooster still trying to force a friendship?” In truth Bradley thought he owed his marriage just one more shot. But right after you walked away he immediately started to regret his decision to choose his wife. He couldn’t stop thinking about you and all that was you. He’d made the wrong decision, but was too proud to admit it. Especially to his wife.
He stood across the Hard Deck with a beer in his hand and his arm slung around her hip, looking at you like a puppy you’d left out in the rain. He missed you, oh so much. And that fact you hardly spoke to him these days made his heart hurt inside his chest.
“Yeah—and I don’t think I can handle it anymore.” You admitted before taking a sip of your drink. “I’ve asked for a transfer, just to make it easier. I can’t focus, can’t sleep, because he’s just—always around.”
“Sounds to me like you’re just running away from your problems.” Penny held her tongue as she watched the tall sandy blonde appear next to you at the bar. “That, or you know that you’re still in love with the guy and no matter what you do he’ll still manage to wiggle his way in because you’ll always allow him to.” It took you a few moments to register what the stranger beside you said as you eyed him up and down.
“Sensitivity—“ You rolled your eyes. “I like that in a stranger.” The alcohol coursed through your body like a mild painkiller. “Are you new in town?” The civvies were an excellent camouflage against the sea of tans that flooded the Hard Deck—and Penny wasn’t about to be the one who told you the stranger you were talking to was the reason for your current situation.
“Just visiting—“ He made sure to lie, a little white lie never hurt anyone. Or so they said. But the man beside you with the perfect smile and emerald green eyes definitely wanted to see how far he could get this conversation. “I’m confounded by all the patches and it’s only my first day in town.” He sighed softly as he sat beside you. “Budweiser please Barkeep.” Penny nodded without another word.
“You get used to it, North Island is a Naval Base after all.” It felt like a needed explanation. The stranger beside you nodded softly as he fished his wallet out of his back pocket.
“So I’ve heard.” A comfortable silence fell between you and the handsome stranger as he waited for his beer. “Kinda wish I’d stayed in bed, if I had known this place would be crawling with Naval Officers I wouldn’t have bothered.” Oh he knew, he knew all right.
He knew that the Hard Deck would be packed to the rafters with the Dagger Squad and he certainly knew North Island was a Naval Base. Why? Because he was a part of that designated team. You’d just been the one who replaced him while he was tasked to special ops. Now? He was back to cause chaos.
“Hey Rooster—“ Fanboy grabbed Bradley’s attention away from Bob. “You see who’s at the bar with Siren?” As Bradley turned his attention back to where he’d known you to be sitting for the better half of the evening, he immediately saw red. A jealousy that rivaled nothing he’d ever felt before consumed him fully, even if his wife was tucked in at his side.
“We just met and already you’re talking about bed.” You chuckled softly as you took another sip of your drink. Penny had since passed Jake his Budweiser and before you knew it, he was laughing softly beside you. “Not very subtle.”
“Being subtle was never really my strong suit.” The man beside you replied with a look of all knowing. He knew something you didn’t. If you didn’t know any better you would have asked what that may have been. But you chose to take another sip of your gin. Settletting once again into the comfortable silence that surrounded you and the stranger to your right.
“So, you ever go out with co-workers?” It stunned you for a second, the forwardness of such a question, but then again—you still didn’t know this guy's name and he was making the heat in your cheeks reach new uncharted heights.
“I um—“ You tucked some of your hair behind your ear and turned to give the golden skinned, white T wearing man beside you your full attention. Crossing your legs as you did so, so that his knees were on either side of yours. “I make it a rule not to.” His answer sent a shiver down your spin. A good shiver. A shiver that made your core flutter.
“Then I am so glad that I don’t work here.” Maybe it was the gin talking or maybe it was your recent breakup, but this guy was the very definition of a piece of art. He was gorgeous, an Adonis that surely would have come straight out of accent metrology.
“Are you hitting on me?” You tried to hide the keen grin that threatened to creep across your slightly heated face, but the sudden attention was giving you an ego boost you desperately needed after being rejected in favour of the cheating wife.
“Would that be so wrong?” Oh this guy was good. Too good. His infectious smile captivated you in every way it could have. His eyes held a story that was dying to be told. His confidence made you want to lean in and taste it, like hard candy it probably tastes just as sweet as his scent smelled. With notes of Vanilla and warm Bourbon lingering from his neck.
So you stuck your hand out for him to accept ever so politely. His eyes never left your as you smiled and bit your bottom lip bashfully.
“I’m Y/n—“ “Lieutenant Y/n Siren Y/l/n.”  “And you are?” Nothing could have prepared you for what happened next. Remember that slow motion we were talking about earlier? Well, the seconds it took Bradley Bradshaw's fist to collide against your handsome mystery man’s cheek, it felt like a century as it played out in painfully slow motion before you.
His head hit the bar with a thud as beer spilled into your lap.
“Rooster! Jesus—!” You gasped as you stood and pushed against Bradley’s chest to back him up and away from the man you’d just been talking to. “Fuck! what the hell was that!?”
Bradley didn’t answer right away as you turned to watch the blond stand with blood dripping down and out of his nose. The two stood there in silence, eyeing each other off as Penny fished out the bar's basic first aid kit.
“That—“ Bradley huffed as he shook his throbbing hand. His jaw had never been so clenched before. He was furious and full of a rage that burned so deep it could have raised his core temperature by a few degrees.
His wife stood off to the side looking all kinds of guilty. As did the rest of the Daggers. They knew this was about to get messy. They knew if he was back and already had his target set on you then there was going to be an all out war between the two men who stood ready to run at each other like angry bulls.
And you, well—you were more concerned about the blood gushing from the nose of your stranger than you were about your ex’s possibly broken hand. But Bradley turned back to you, for a mere second to explain.
And when he did—you forgot what morals were.
“That was Jake.”
“Derek? Wha-“
“I need to stay here tonight.” He kept his head down as he shuffled his way through the door, water drops flowing off his hair.
“Is everything okay? Where’s Addison?” The look Derek gave you was almost enough to answer every question that was running through your head. You stood silently as he threw his duffel bag on the couch, his soaked jacket following. He plopped down in the arm chair, palms rubbing his face.
“I’ll get you some hot cocoa to warm up.”
“No don’t I’m fine.”
Your eyebrow raised at his poor attempt in deterring your concern.
“Oh god you look like mom.” Derek chuckled, lighting the heaviness in the room.
“What happened with Addison Derek? Why are you here?”
His face dropped once more almost immediately. The change drawing regret straight out of your core. “I found her sleeping with Sloan.”
“Mark!?” Hearing the most unexpected name come out your stomach churned in a way that made you swear you were about to hurl. The barriers around your emotions all crumbling at once.
“Are we really surprised.” Derek sighed, flattening himself out onto the couch.
“I mean? Yes? No? I don’t.. I mean he’s your best friend?” Surely it wasn’t out of character for Marks sexual.. tendencies to say the least. But still there was a part of you that couldn’t believe he’d sleep with the wife of the man he practically called a brother. Especially after growing so close to him in the past months. You shared everything together and nothing that was said or done could’ve prepared you for this. Your heart ached more then it ever did before, both for Derek but also yourself. Mark was your first, and you had naively convinced yourself he’d be the last. And though you wanted more than anything to curl up in a ball on the floor with Derek and sob your eyes out until the numb feeling that soared through your nerve endings disappeared, Derek didn’t know anything about you and Mark, and you sure as hell weren’t about to have this be the time he finds out. It took more then you thought you had in you to conceal your emotions. Fighting back the familiar sting of tears became a war for the first time, but you stood your ground against it. Sure you and Mark hadn’t taken the time to talk about making things exclusive, but really you didn’t think you needed to. What you felt with Mark was enough to flood your senses full, not able to even consider someone else entering the picture.
And maybe you were stupid to think he felt the same.
It felt futile to hide the burn in your chest, knowing it was evident in your face. But still you tried to mask your feelings, hoping it would be seen as nothing but compassion towards your brother. You’d drag the sun out by your bare hands to bring sunshine after a life of darkness if it meant the best for Derek.
“Yeah well obviously that doesn’t mean much.” The scene of Derek face down on the couch with his arms dangling at weird angles was almost comical enough to bring you out of your anger. In a sad attempt to stifle your laugh, a small giggle escaped your lips. Derek just looked up from his resting spot and gave you the warmest smile you’ve seen from him all night, the picture perfect resemblance of a child.
“Derek I don’t-“ You were cut off mid sentence by the ringing of Dereks phone. He was hesitant to pick it up, most likely praying to himself it wasn’t the two talks of the night.
“Hold that thought I have to take this.” He cleared his throat before answering the phone, his eyebrows stiffening. “Hi Richard, sorry for emailing so late..” Was all you caught as he stepped out of the room.
The anticipation building in you was almost enough to drive you mad. Derek had been on the phone for ten minutes now and you weren’t able to hear any of it. You had began your (what felt like at least) 100th lap around the room, as Derek finally stepped back in. The suspense in the room falling instantly as his demeanor brought nothing but a strange joy.
“Richard Webber from Seattle Grace just called.”
“Okay..?” You sat down on the couch, Derek following.
“He found us both a job, very well pay, I’d be head of neuro, and you’ll be a trauma attending ! It’s perfect! He said he could even throw in a sign on bonus for you for the sudden notice! We start Monday.”
“At Seattle Grace?”
“Well obviously.”
“Derek? Are you insane? Like are you actually going insane because if you are I can understand why.”
“Am I.. Are you going insane? Y/n this is the perfect job opportunity! It’s everything you’ve worked for come on!”
There was a shared silence between the two of you, you each studying the other trying to feel out the mix of emotions you both had been throwing out into the room. Derek looked at you with eyes of an insane man, his lips a curl of typical mischief.
“Derek. This job is in Seattle. Seattle Washington! We live in New York! You can not bring in a life changing job, and move, that I have to do in two days and expect me to jump at it! I know you want to get away from Addison right now but Seattle seriously? Don’t you think that’s taking it a little far?”
“Yes! That’s the point. Come with me or don’t but you’ll sure as hell look idiotic for not.” You let out a sigh at his words, your jaw tensing.
“Derek we’re talking about both of our whole lives right now. Our family is here, our homes, hell our jobs!”
~
“Y/n! welcome to Seattle Grace. I know the offer was a short notice but I appreciate you coming.” Richard Webber, the chief of Seattle Grace, greeted you at the entrance. A great smile plastered across his face as he reached out to shake your hand.
“Of course Richard. Thank you for the offer. I know you wanted me out sooner but like I told Derek, it was insane for me to do the move in two days. So I really do appreciate the exception, it was more than generous of you.” You smiled, accepting the greeting.
“Oh i know it was. But anything for an old friend’s family. And it would be great to have another genius on hand.”
“Old friend?”
“Oh yes, Dr. Shepherd and I have worked on a few cases together in the past. I’ve spent my fair share of time in New York.” Richard spoke as he began to walk through the hospital, his hand reaching behind him to motion for you to follow. “Now I know Derek has been working here for a week now, and could show you around, but I’m going to go ahead and assign you an intern for the day. Someone to show you around and have do all the unnecessary paperwork for you.”
“Oh no Dr. Webber, no need to do that. You’ve already accommodated so much around me. Surely I can find my way around today.”
“Absolutely no need for that Dr. Shepherd. Let me make the day easier for you please.” You smiled at Richard and nodded, fully appreciating the gesture. He nodded and turned around, his finger pointing to a shorter woman across the room at the nurses station.
“Bailey!” The woman whipped her head around, eyebrows raised and an unfazed expression spread on her face. She began walking towards you and Richard, five other doctors following her lead almost immediately. You giggled to yourself as they all looked like a scene of baby ducks following their mom; though these baby ducks did look particularly tired and worn.
“Can you give me one of your children please. I need someone to be with Dr. Shepherd for the day while she settles in. You know like show her around yada yada.”
“Karev go.” Dr. Bailey ordered turning around and beginning to walk back to what she was doing.
“Me? But I’ve got-“ One of the doctors that had been following Bailey began saying, walking backwards to keep up with her in order to plea.
“Karev. GO.”
He stood in the middle of the room, arms up in defeat. You almost felt bad for him until he turned to face you, eyes narrowed and lips pursed as if this was somehow your fault.
“Come on lets get this over with.” He snarled while walking back towards you.
“Hey don’t be pissed at me, I sure as hell didn’t want you to be the one showing me around.” Karev stopped to take a good look at you, almost completely dumbfounded after your response. He scanned your face, either trying to decide who you were to talk to him like that, or the opposite of the spectrum and he was just trying to hide his admiration.
Your grand hospital tour was finally coming to an end after almost two hours. Alex had taken the time to show you each wing, introduce you to each head of department, and even showed you the vending machines that are least likely to scam you. At first he had seemed like a nightmare to be around, almost like a brooding angsty teenager who didn’t like anyone, but after warming up to him (or maybe him warming up to you?) Alex actually seemed more then tolerable. He made you laugh more then you have in awhile. His presence lighting you more than you’ve felt since your first night with Mark, which in all honesty bewildered you more then you imagined. Questioning yourself on how, or why you had become so comfortable around Alex in such little of time.
Honestly he felt like Mark felt. But for some sick reason, that maybe was just a play on your emotions, the man you had just met three hours ago made you feel lighter then Mark had in 20 years. He felt like a flow of fresh rain water after a drought, cleansing you of all toxins and slowly making you new. He was rain and you were the starved flower.
Yet Mark felt like the water saved from the last rain. Still coursing through your veins and settling into your heart and soul. Something that once kept you alive, was once your everything, now something you couldn’t get out of your system without feeling like you were sucked dry, moments away from an inevitable end.
It hadn’t quite struck you how much the Mark situation had hit you before now. Really you hadn’t had time to feel how the situation made you feel. The thought of butterflies returning to you uncovered a deep empty void that was quick to cover your senses.
The sudden wave of emotions hit you hard, but still you tried to remain as unaffected by it as possible. Though you knew you had done quite the shitty job of that after you caught Alex glancing at you with concern from the corner of your eye.
“So,” he coughed, obviously trying to diffuse the odd tension that had began. “What department do you plan to work in after residency?”
“Well actually I’m a trauma attending.”
“Attending? You look younger than me!”
“Well I am 24.” You giggled at the widened eyes of Alex, his jaw practically on the floor.
“24!?”
“Yep! Baby of the family.”
“Baby of the entire hospital! I mean how’d you even get here?”
“Well Dr. Karev that is a long story we could discuss over coffee tomorrow morning.” It was out your mouth before you could even sit to consider it. Alex looked taken aback for a moment, obviously not expecting that just as much as you were.
“Deal.” Alex warmly smiled, his eyes gleaming with something more than before.
You had just left the locker room to finally go home, you were just waiting for Meredith. As you scrolled through the messages on your phone you sensed someone else's presence, and as soon as you looked up you found yourself in front of Mark Sloan. Well, that wasn't new, he was always wherever you were, he never left you alone for a moment. He flirted with you whenever he could, almost embarrassed you, but you got used to it by now.
"Hey, can I bring you home?" he approached with his usual smirk on his face.
"No thanks, I'm waiting for Mer" you went back to checking your messages.
"And if I bring in a restaurant?" when he wants he gets so stubborn.
"I'm not really hungry"
"Then... a little walk?" you sighed smiling. In fact, if he would have continued like this you would have given in.
But why not, I mean he's hot, and je's also an excellent company...
"Hey, come on" Meredith came out of the locker room. Just in time.
"Bye doctor Sloan" you greeted him taking Meredith by the arm to drag her away from there before she wasted any more time with Cristina.
"Finally" you sighed rolling your eyes.
"How's it going with your...?"
"Shut up, he's my nothing" you shut her up as you walked towards the car. She looked so amused selling you like that.
"You know, he used to flirt with me too" Meredith said as you got into the car.
"Really? And...?"
"Well, I think I'd have accepted if Derek hadn't punched him straight in the face before he even finished to talking with me" she laughed at the memory. You laughed with her.
"When did all this happen?" you asked curiously.
"It was before you came here, you should have been there"
"Oh yes. But maybe it's been better like this, cause now you and Derek are good together" you said thinking about it.
"Yeah, maybe... so you can have him all for you"
"Shut up!" oh you know she'll annoy you for a long time.
Before she could start to say any more you turned on the radio hoping to find a decent song, then stared out the window for a while.
"Hey" you got Meredith's attention.
"What?"
"Why did Derek punch him?" you asked confused since you were aware that those two were best friends.
"Well... he slept with his wife, Addison..."
"Wait, what?? Why didn't I know it?!"
"It's happened a long time ago, nobody talks about it anymore" your sister said. You would never have imagined this.
Well, you knew that making mistakes was human, things had now been resolved, but he had always remained the same that he knew what he wanted.
Without even realizing it, you had already arrived home, you got out of the car and as soon as you entered, you both threw yourself on the sofa, exhausted.
The next morning you arrived at the hospital together, and as soon as you had got ready and divided, punctually like every morning, you were greeted by Mark who brought you a coffee.
"Good morning Y/n"
"Good morning" you just took the coffee and drank it right away. It was all you needed.
"You know, you're prettier with loose hair" the fact that he noticed it caused you a little smile, usually you always kept them tied in a ponytail, you hated them.
"Thank you" he said goodbye one last time before leaving to go to a patient.
"Doctor Sloan!" he spun around as soon as he heard your voice calling him.
"Yeah?" he came back to you.
"I, ok, well, you... you're a very good perdon..." his attention increased. "And you're also really handsome, but... I don't know if-"
"No no no, don't finish that phrase, please" you stopped to listen to him, you had no other choice. "You can't say that you don't know if it con work if we didn't even tried. You're beautiful, you're smart, and I really like you, I exactly know what I want, and I won't stop. So if you'll say yes I'll do everything to make you happy and make it work" those words made you feel a weird sensation... he had managed to hit you. No one had ever told you these things. Now you didn't even know what to answer.
"Then Y/n... can I bring you out this time, please?" you laughed at the way he asked you.
"I'd love to" you smiled at him as your gazes met for a moment, until his pager rang.
"See you later baby"
"I can't wait" you watched him walk away.
A pleasant date with a man completely crazy about you awaited you tonight.
I sat in the foyer of the beautiful brownstone Mark has bought us, seething. I had arrived home after a long 30-hour shift, just wanting to relax with my husband but I had instead received a call from Derek delivering the worst news of my life.
“Y/N?”
“Hey, Derek, everything okay?” I asked, concerned at his strained voice.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry.”
My heart crawled into my throat. What could have possibly happened to warrant this much concern from him? Has Addison been hurt? Had Mark? “What? Derek, you’re scaring me.”
After a pause, he spoke again. “I just found Mark in bed with Addison.” My entire body felt like it had filled with ice. I knew Addison and Derek had been on the rocks for a while but I thought Mark and I were solid. “I’m leaving, tonight, for Seattle. I have an old friend out there who’s gonna make me the head of neurosurgery. I know it’s sudden and you’re dealing with a lot right now but I’m happy to bring you out there.”
Tears pricked in my eyes, I felt so helpless. “Derek, I’m a second year resident, I can’t just up and move to a different program.”
“Richard, the chief of surgery at Seattle Grace, will help you. You may be set back a year but what’s the alternative?”
I thought for a second. I could stay here and try to work things out with Mark but I knew I’d never be able to look at or trust him again. I could break up with him and stay here but knowing him he’d never leave me in peace. My best option would be to flee. “You’re right. I’ll meet you at the Starbucks across from JFK?”
“I’ll see you there. And Y/N? I really am sorry that this happened to you.”
“I’m sorry it happened to you too.”
I had packed only the essentials into a duffle bag that sat next to me as I waited for Mark to get back to his home. My beautiful rings sat on the coffee table between me and the door, clearly visible from the doorway.
Mark had a devastated look on his face even before he opened the door. His face dropped even further when he saw my expression along with my rings on the table. “Y/N-”
“Don’t,” I interrupted. “I want a divorce,” I asked calmly, picking up my bag to walk out.
But Mark stood his ground, continuing to stand in front of the doorway. “Can we at least talk about this?”
“Why? Nothing you could possibly say could make this better or make me not hate you. You hurt your best friend and your wife,” the tears were falling now. “You threw away our entire relationship for what? So you could hurt Derek? You just had to have Addison? You wanted to hurt me?”
“No, no,” Mark protested, his own voice cracking. “Addison wanted to hurt Derek and well… I wasn’t thinking.”
“‘I wasn’t thinking?’ That’s a pathetic excuse.” I moved to walk past him but he grabbed my arm, yanking me back in front of him, moving to further block the door.
“You promised to love me for better or worse, Y/N Sloan. Well, this is worse. You made a vow.”
“You also vowed to love and honor me,” I threw back.
His grip slackened enough for me to remove my arm from his grip so I continued towards the door. But before I could step out into the night, Mark spoke again. “At least tell me where you’re going?”
I sighed. “Derek and I are getting hotel rooms for a little while,” I lied. Not wanting him to ask me anymore, I slammed the door shut, quickly hailing a taxi.
~
I stood at the nurses’ station, filling out charts when Alex came up next to me, grabbing a chart from one of the nurses. “Your patient in 402 is demanding your presence,” I told him.
He groaned, rolling his eyes. “She’s been demanding ridiculous things all day. I’ve got a surgery I need to study for.”
“Oh yeah? Tell you what, I’ll take this patient off your hands if you take my ruptured abscess.”
Alex stopped to think for a second before reaching his hand out. “Deal.” I smiled, eager to switch when suddenly a fist came out of nowhere, hitting Karev in the face. I whipped my head around, horrified to see Mark.
“What are you doing with my wife?” he yelled down at a still slightly dazed Alex.
“Mark! What the hell?” I demanded.
But before Mark could speak, Alex was up and lunging at Mark. Noticing him, I stepped between the two men, stupidly, getting myself tackled into Mark’s chest in the process. The rest of the hospital had finally realized what was going on as they pulled Alex away, Izzie trying to calm him down.
Realizing I was still in my ex-husband's arms, I pulled myself away from him. “What the fuck are you doing here? How did you find me?”
“Addison told me.”
I rolled my eyes. “You know of all the ways you could’ve found me, that is the last one I would have wanted to hear.”
“Y/N, please, just hear me out,” he begged.
I sighed, “Fine. But after I listen and make a decision, I want you out of my life forever.” Mark looked like he wanted to argue but nodded nonetheless. So I led him to an on-call room for privacy. He smiled upon entering the room. “I remember these from my residency. Or when I’d have a surgery with you at New York Presbyterian,” he flirted, stepping closer to me.
I pressed my hand against his chest, pushing him away. “Don’t. Just say what you need to say.”
He looked disappointed at my rejection but spoke anyways. “First, I want to apologize. What I did was unforgivable and it was just a moment of weakness. I love you, I always have and I always will. These past few months have been hell and everyone refused to tell me where you were.” He paused, waiting for my response but I just quirked an eyebrow at him, urging him to continue. “Look, I want you back. I’ve been wanting you back ever since… well Addison and I… anyways. Please, I can’t do this without you, come home.” He then pulled out my engagement and wedding rings and I noticed for the first time he was still wearing his ring. “You’re still my wife, Y/N Sloan.”
I took a shaky breath. “My name is L/N and the only reason we’re not legally divorced is because I didn’t want you to know where I was. But I guess that doesn’t matter now.”
“Babe, please-”
“Don’t call me babe. I have work I have to do.” I went to move past him but he grabbed my arm again, just like he did all those months ago.
“No, we’re gonna makeup,” he insisted. He pulled me in front of him again, peering down at my face. “God, you’re more beautiful than I remembered.” I remembered lines like that from early on in our relationship. They used to make me melt… I shook off any feelings from the past, trying to steel myself against my husband’s charms that would make me putty in his hand in an instant. His hand slipped under my jaw, cupping my face, fitting perfectly just like back when I thought we were made for each other. And then his lips found mine and I was gone.
I felt his other arm slip around my waist and he pulled me closer to him. Feeling my resolve slip, I brought my hands to my husband’s face and neck, kissing him back. Noticing my reciprocity, Mark lifted me slightly, bringing me to the bed. He laid me down gently, careful to not put too much weight on me. With practiced hands, he went straight for my scrub pants. Neither of us were strangers to hookups in on-call rooms. Mark and Derek had their own practice back in New York but he’d have to come to my hospital for the ORs and he’d always drag me into the on-call rooms before surgery and sometimes after.
I made no moves to undress him, a quiet voice in my mind screaming for me to stop but I ignored it. Mark didn’t seem to mind though as he pulled down his own pants and moved his lips down to my neck. It took everything in me not to moan as he hit the parts of my body that made my toes curl.
He groaned when he finally sheathed himself inside of me. “Oh my god, you’re so perfect,” he groaned, gripping the sheets next to my head. “You haven’t been with anyone else?”
“No,” I answered, fighting out pleased sounds. Truthfully I was still in love with Mark and I didn’t want to hurt him, especially the way he had hurt me. Even though I had proclaimed that we were over, sleeping with someone else would still feel like cheating. “Have you?”
“No, no of course not. It’s you, it’s always been you, it will always be you,” he professed, continuing to thrust in and out of me. He was cupping my face again and trying to look deeply into my eyes but I refused to meet his gaze. Instead just looking up at the bunk above us, focusing on making it seem like I wasn’t enjoying this. Fortunately, he gave me the decency of nuzzling his face into my neck so I wouldn’t have to avoid his gaze.
He continued pumping in and out deep, and slowly, his fingers nestled against my clit, moving in the way he knew I liked. I was gone in about two minutes, embarrassment creeping up my neck and face at being at Mark’s mercy. I could feel him smirk into my throat as he chased his own release, finishing shortly after me.
The second he did, I was pushing him off of me, hiking my pants back up around my hips. “Babe,” he protested as I headed for the door.
“I have work to do,” I explained, not even sparing him a glance. “And don’t call me babe.”
I rushed out of the on-call room, intent on finding Alex’s whiny patient but I ran into Derek first. “Y/N, I heard about Mark, are you okay?”
“Hmm? Yeah, I’m fine. Told him to fuck off,” I rushed out.
“Why’d he punch Karev?”
“I think he thought we were flirting or something. I don’t know, didn’t bother to ask.” I tried to move past him but the sound of the door I just came through opening, stopped me.
“Mark,” I heard Derek say in shock. He looked between Mark and I and the on-call room we just came out of. Mark was wearing a proud smirk and I knew it was over for my decency. So in Derek’s surprise, I took the opportunity to slip away.
~
“Y/N Sloan, to the nurses’ station. Dr. Y/N Sloan to the nurses’ station,” the intercoms rang out across the dining quad.
“Are you the Sloan they’ve been calling all day?” Cristina asked as she approached the table along with Meredith, Izzie, and George. “I didn’t even know they still used these intercoms. Why don’t they just page you?”
I groaned, looking at Izzie, who was there to witness Mark’s outburst. “Because my ex-husband is trying to humiliate me into talking to him.”
“Wait, you’re married?” George sputtered out.
“Ex,” I clarified.
“But he called you his wife?” Izzie clarified. “Who is he? What happened? Why’d he punch Alex?”
I sighed, not wanting to tell them. But I knew they’d never stop asking and soon enough my business would be all over the hospital, might as well get control of the story. “Fine. That guy? That’s my husband, Mark Sloan. We’re not legally divorced but we will be soon.”
“Wait, you’re married to Derek’s ex-best friend?” Meredith asked.
“You’re married to plastic surgery god Mark Sloan?” Cristina asked at the same time.
“Yes, and yes. Mark and I met while I was finishing up in undergrad. We got married after two years and then three years later Derek finds him in bed with Addison. So I kind of fled New York in the middle of the night with Derek. Mark is here now because Addison finally told him where I am in order to beg for me to go back. As for the punch, I don’t know, probably thought Alex and I were flirting or something. He was always a little possessive.” George scoffed a little at that.
“So you’re married to McSteamy?” Izzie mused. “I did not see that coming.”
I set down my fork. “Did you just call my cheating husband ‘McSteamy?’”
“Yeah she did,” Cristina jumped in. “Can’t say I blame her, or Addison, or you.”
I rolled my eyes at the nickname. “So I guess I’m still just as pathetic as you?” I smiled at Meredith.
“Welcome to the club of getting screwed over by attendings.”
“He’s not an attending, he’s leaving as soon as possible,” I insisted. The rest of them stared at me. “What?”
“You know that lionitis patient? Dr. Sloan offered his services. The Chief offered him head of plastics on the spot and he took it. Said he wanted to be close to his wife, which I now realize is you,” George explained.
I stared at him with wide eyes. “No, no he is not staying here,” I seethed. Standing up, I began to storm towards the surgical floor’s nurses’ station, knowing that’s where he’d be.
I stormed up to the nurses’ station, finding Mark speaking with the Chief. “Mark, stop paging me!”
“Then don’t fuck me and immediately walk away,” he countered.
My eyes widened, shocked at his words. I glanced over at Dr. Webber, blood rushing to my face, mortified. He choked a little, excusing himself. “What the hell was that?” I demanded in a whisper yell. “First you punch one of my friends and now this?”
“What? God forbid people know that a man has sex with his wife?” I shushed him again. “And I can’t defend my wife either?”
“Okay, first of all, I’m not your wife.”
“Yes you are, neither of us have signed divorce papers.”
“Okay fine, but not for long. I’m going to see a lawyer when I’m done with work so you may as well get used to not being married anymore.”
“I can’t call you my wife, or babe, or your legal name. What should I call you?”
“Nothing, leave me alone. Tell the chief you can’t stay.” I whirled around, intent to walk away when Mark called after me.
“I won’t sign them.” I stopped dead in my tracks. Turning around, I looked at him. “I won’t let one mistake end our marriage.”
“It wasn’t one mistake. Are you saying you accidentally went to the Shepherds’ house? Accidentally started taking your clothes off? Accidentally took of Addison’s? And then your only mistake was to sleep with her? No, you made a hundred choices to cheat on me. So please Mark, give me mercy and leave me with a shred of decency to sign the papers and then leave. Do you know how much you’ve humiliated me?”
“Just give me three months. Three months to win you back. If you still hate me, I’ll sign the papers and go back to New York.”
“No.”
“Come on, you wanna throw away 5 years in one night? Three months.”
I sighed. “One date.”
“Two months.”
“A week.”
“A month.”
“Fine,” I rolled my eyes. “One month.”
Mark smiled victoriously, “A month.”
~
It was about 3 am and I had just wrapped up on an emergency heart surgery. I was the last resident to leave so I had the locker room completely to myself. At least, I did until I heard the door swing open. Assuming it was just some other exhausted resident I didn’t bother to turn around until I felt familiar arms wrap around my waist. I turned my head slightly, my cheek brushing against Mark’s lips. “You were amazing in that surgery,” he murmured.
“Thanks,” I dismissed, continuing to sort through my bag.
“You really are such a gifted surgeon. You know what specialty you want yet? You’ve got the face and skill for plastics.”
“You know this is the residents’ lounge, right?” I changed the subject. “Attendings’ is down the hall.”
“I like this one better. It has you in it.” I rolled my eyes at that pickup line. “So, I was thinking you and I could get dinner together. Catch up. Get late night takeout from whatever was open like we used to.” I had to admit, I had missed those late night takeout sessions… and Mark. The worst part was that I missed my husband.
“I don’t know if that’s such a good idea,” I dismissed, twisting out of his arms.
“Y/N, our deal only works if you give me a fair shot.”
I sighed again, admittedly he was right. “Fine, we can get dinner, or I guess really early breakfast.”
Mark smirked victoriously again. “One of the other residents told me about this 24 hour place that has sandwiches.”
~
Mark opened the door to his hotel room, letting me step in. It was lavish, Mark having never shied away from the finer things in life. Mark stepped towards the desk, setting down the bag of sandwiches and sitting in the chair. Leaving me to take a seat, cross-legged on the bed. He handed me my sandwich that I eagerly opened, having not eaten anything in 6 hours. “So what’ve you been up to the last few months?”
“Work,” I answered bluntly. It was an honest and complete answer. I had to restart my second year of residency when I moved so I was barely above the bottom of the surgical food chain. “And all the residents in my year were already cliquey so my only friends are interns.”
“Richard told me you run with the girl Derek fell in love with.”
“Yeah, Meredith Grey. Now I’m the other girl who got screwed over by an attending,” I teased lightly.
He chuckled embarrassedly. “Yeah, well, sorry about that.”
“You know, when I first found out, I couldn’t wait to hear you grovel. But you’ve apologized to me so many times it’s like nails on a chalk board.”
“Sor-” Mark began but he pursed his lips when he saw my expression. “So that guy I punched? What’s up with him?”
“Beyond being a sometimes decent coworker? Nothing. But you should apologize to him, for me. He wants to go into plastics and I think you punching him threw a wrench into that plan. And as long as he’s not still pissed at you, I think he’d love to learn from you.”
“You’re going awfully out of your way for the guy that is ‘sometimes a decent coworker.’”
I sent Mark a tired look. “Are you actually going there right now?”
“I guess I don’t have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to this,” he said shyly, realizing his mistake.
“Ya think?” I asked sarcastically. “So what’ve you been doing?”
“Well when you first left I stopped working for a while. I poured everything into finding you… and admittedly a bottle. I was a mess, I couldn’t eat or sleep. All I really did was drink and beg for people to tell me where you were. But after like a month I finally gave up and went back to working. I did nothing but work for 4 months. Then… Addison called, said she was in Seattle with you and Derek and I was on the next flight here. I had to fly economy because there were no first class seats available,” he said with disgust.
“Oh the horror,” I laughed.
We fell into a comfortable silence and it felt almost like back when we were still happily married. The silence was first broken by my yawn since I had now been up for 20 hours. “I miss you,” Mark admitted. “I miss your smile, your laugh, your kindness. I miss how cute you are when you’re tired. How you used to come home and collapse into bed with me. I miss your cooking and how you said it was the next best thing to surgery.” He scooted his chair closer so he could grab my hands which had been sitting limply in my lap. “I miss your hands,” he kissed them, “and your legs, and your hair, and your eyes, and your nose, and your lips,” he punctuated each body part with a kiss there. But it was finally the kiss on my lips that made me snap out of Mark’s trance.
“No,” I said, pushing away. “Earlier was a moment of weakness, a mistake.”
“Ahah, so sleeping with someone is one mistake?” he beamed. “And a moment of weakness is just that, a moment.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes. He had been so sweet and apologetic, now he was trying to get off the hook? “This afternoon wasn’t like you and Addison at all. I knew exactly what I was doing. I knew I’d regret it but I chose to anyway. And when I sleep with you I’m the only one getting hurt. I wasn’t cheating.” He looked dejected, realizing I was right and he couldn’t get out of this on a technicality. “I’m going,” I declared, moving to get off the bed.
“Y/N, you have work in two hours and we’re right across the street from the hospital. Sleep here.”
“You’re that eager to get me into your bed?” I scoffed.
“Look, I’ll sleep on the floor if that makes you feel better but I’m not letting you leave.”
“Fine,” I agreed, crawling up to the head of the bed to slip under the covers. Mark grabbed one of the many pillows from the bed, throwing it down onto the floor. As he laid down it dawned on me that he didn’t have a blanket. Feeling bad, I spoke. “Get up here.”
Mark didn’t have to be told twice as he quickly slipped under the sheets. But as soon as he did, I was turned the other way, refusing to acknowledge him further. “Goodnight,” he wished me as he turned off the lamp.
~
In the morning I woke up the same way I used to, the same way I had been missing for the past 5 months. My head was rested on Mark’s chest, his arms wrapped around me, and his lips murmuring against my ear that it was time to get up. Upon regaining my senses, I jumped out of bed, trying to find my shoes and jacket. Being back in his arms made me realize how much I had missed him but I couldn’t afford to slip back into those old habits.
“So am I just a bed warmer to you?” Mark asked from his spot in bed, watching me get ready. “I mean I’m fine with it if that’s all you’ll give me but I’d just like to know what I’m getting myself into.”
I sent him an eyeroll. “No, I just felt bad for you. Thanks for the wakeup, by the way,” I thanked, checking my watch to see I’d be right on time.
“Of course. What else are husbands for?”
I took a breath, not wanting to encourage him. “Bye.”
“I’m actually headed there myself, gonna operate on the lionitis kid. You wanna scrub in?”
“Are you actually trying to buy my love with surgeries?”
“It worked last time,” he laughed. “Well, you were still in school so more like homework answers but it still worked.”
I laughed, dismissively shaking my head, “I’ll see you later.”
~
Cristina, Alex, and I were waiting around the main nurses’ station, waiting for our assignments for the day. “How’s your face?” I asked Alex.
“Fine, I’ve taken worse,” he answered casually.
“Only reason he’s not mad is because he wants to kiss the plastics god’s ass,” Cristina teased.
“Shut up,” was all he said, offering no other defense for himself.
Fortunately for him Cristina couldn’t prod anymore because Derek was approaching. “You three, you’re assisting with Jake Burton today. Come with me,” he called, barely stopping to talk to us. We all scurried after him as we headed towards his room. Upon entering we found Mark drawing on the kid’s face.
“Dr. Sloan,” Derek interrupted him. “Don’t you think this is unnecessary?”
Mark gave him an annoyed look but before he could say anything, the parents spoke up. “We talked with Dr. Sloan and Jake, we’ve decided we’ll go ahead with the facial reconstruction.”
Derek pursed his lips, annoyed. I knew that about half a year ago Derek wouldn’t have hesitated to jump in on this joint surgery. It’s what their practice had been built on but now Derek was letting his feelings get in the way of patient care. “Fine, doctors,” he looked at the three of us and Mark, “come with me.”
We all shuffled out after him except for Mark who seemed to begrudgingly storm after Derek. “You have no right to undermine me in front of patients like that,” Mark immediately began.
“You’re a guest at this hospital, an unwelcome one at that. You have no right offering surgeries to patients— my patient.”
“Did you already forget that Webber made me Head of Plastics? You’re not the only surgeon with a fancy contract anymore,” Mark shot back.
Derek rolled his eyes. “Fine, Karev, you’re with Dr. Sloan.”
“Actually I’d like the other Dr. Sloan-” I sent him a glare, “Dr. L/N. The Chief gave me full authority to use whatever resources I need for this surgery.”
“She’s not some tool you get to use. Or something to play with whenever you feel like it. Is that what our marriages were to you? Something you could break when it suited you?”
“Dr. Shepherd!” I interrupted. “I appreciate that you’re trying to defend my honor but I don’t need you to. Besides you really want to do this here?” I gestured to all the people watching us. “Alex, you go with Dr. Sloan, I’ll go find something else to work on,” I dismissed, heading down to the pit.
As I was waiting for the elevator, I saw one of the last people I wanted to interact with. Addison stumbled towards me, looking like she had a squirrel in her pants. “Dr. L/N, I know we’re not exactly on the best of terms right now but I need a consult.” I looked at her, confused. We had worked on a few cases together perfectly civil. “I need a consult,” she clarified.
Catching her inflection and the fact that she was clearly uncomfortable, my mouth formed an O. “I see, c’mon, we’ll go to one of the private exam rooms.”
“Ah thank you,” she sighed in relief.
Upon having Addison in the stirrups and her explanation of her morning walk, I knew exactly what she was suffering from. “Yep, poison oak in probably the worst place you could have it,” I confirmed her suspicions.
She groaned, lying back on the table. “I guess this is karma.”
“You could say so,” I laughed gently. “I’ll get the calamine lotion and don’t worry, you have my discretion.” I grabbed the lotion from a storage closet, retuning to Addison.
“How come you don’t hate me?” she asked as I began to get to work. “Even my own husband, who chose to stay married to me, hates me.”
I sighed, “I don’t know. I did hate you, maybe I still do. But Derek can really hold a grudge so maybe that’s why I look so forgiving in comparison. But I have a hard time hating and turning my back on the people who were my family, even if they hurt me in the worst way possible.”
“I really am sorry. Mark and I, we regret everything.”
“I’m so sick of apologies. Do you know how many times Mark said he was sorry yesterday?”
“I heard he was here. And that he punched one of your friends, Karev.”
“Yeah, always been a bit possessive. Of course that’s painfully ironic now,” I laughed bitterly. “Alright, that’s as much as I can do for you right now. Apply more tonight.”
~
“Hey,” I heard Mark’s gruff voice gently coax me out of my thoughts. I turned, finding him in scrubs, his surgical gown open and flowing behind him. He always looked so good in scrubs.
“Hey,” I replied. “I heard about Jake. I’m so sorry.” Cristina had told me that the lionitis patient had died almost immediately after Derek had opened his head up. I felt bad for the kid, he had been so excited for a normal face.
He shrugged, taking a seat next to me. He sighed, pulling off his scrub cap. “I’m just sorry I couldn’t give him a sense of normalcy. But I talked to his parents, they said I could still do the surgery post mortem so he could be buried the way he wanted. Wanna help?”
I thought for a second. On one hand I didn’t want to continue to entertain the idea that Mark had a chance with me. On the other I needed to cut so desperately. “Sure, why not?”
He smiled. “Atta girl.”
We went down to the autopsy room in order to do the procedure and I had to admit it felt nice. I used to love performing surgery with Mark. It was always a comfortable silence while we worked together and when we did talk it was easy. Moments like this and memories of moments like this made it so hard to stop loving him. As we worked quietly I really thought for the first time since he came here. I had never really stopped loving him and even though I never wanted to see him again, a small part of me was relieved he tried so hard to find me and now he’s fighting for me.
By the time Jake’s parents came down to see him I was an emotional wreck. Seeing them grieve for their son made me burst. “I’m sorry,” I choked, stepping into a back room.
Mark was beside me in a second, closing the door for privacy. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked, a distressed look on his face. I just crossed my arms, looking at the floor, trying to force down my emotions. I wanted to be strong enough to not tell him how I felt but I felt his finger underneath my chin. He pulled my face up to meet his concerned eyes. “I can’t help you if you won’t tell me.”
I swallowed harshly, unwilling to tell him. “I miss you,” I relented. “I miss us. I am haunted by you. I didn’t even realize I still loved you until you showed up. But it hurts. It hurts to love and miss you because you hurt me.” I could feel the tears slipping down my face and my throat straining against the sobs. “You hurt me so bad, Mark, and now I can’t trust you. I used to say that cheating is it, I’d never be able to forgive cheating but the worst part is that I want to forgive you. And I can’t forgive you and love you and still have any self respect.”
“C’mere,” Mark sighed, pulling me into a hug. I broke down, sobbing into his chest. “Sleeping with Addison was a mistake, one I fully own up to and take responsibility for. And I’m gonna tell you this not because I want you to feel bad or I think you should have any of the blame but the reason I did it was because I wanted you to notice me. You were at the hospital all the time and I knew then, and know now, that that wasn’t your choice. I guess it was just hard for me to see you be independent because it felt like you were so dependent on me for so long and I liked that you needed me. And I’m sorry for trying to hold you back and for hurting you in order to hold you back but please, let me help you grow and succeed now. That’s all I want in the world.”
“Promise not to hurt me again,” I demanded.
“I promise. You have my full permission to cut off my testicles if I do.”
“Okay,” I laughed. “I’m in, Mark. I’m in it to make our marriage work.” I tilted my head up to look at him as I spoke.
“Thank you,” he beamed in relief. “Thank you,” he repeated in a relieved whisper.
Truly Yours-1
Mark Sloan x GN!Reader
By-Sandy <3
Tumblr media
-You and Mark Sloan have been together really since high school, you guys were on and off for a while at least till you went to college then things smoothed out and you and him have been together for the long run ever since, or so you thought. -You have known Derek and Mark since junior high you were a close trio of best friends, y'all were inseparable. "You are un..unbelievable!" You screamed as hot tears ran down your face.
You and Mark were standing apart from each other, he had a look of guilt and regret. You had just learned that your husband slept with Addison Montgomery-Shepard, your best friend's wife, you felt betrayed, used, oblivious, and foolish.
"Babe...I am sorry, I am truly sorry." Mark said with a look of guilt plastered onto that ridiculously handsome face of his.
You scoffed and took deep breath trying to compose yourself but as expected you failed..."I am sorry?! You have taken my heart out my chest, hit it with a hammer and threw it out the window!" You sobbed and said "You have thrown my love away like its nothing..." You sniffled and took a deep breath
"Y/N Sloan, I love you more than anyone could ever imagine..." He said softly walking up towards you.
"No, you don't." You said coldly backing away from him.
He froze and put his hands behind his head, you looked around seeing all the moving boxes in your new and fresh home. Y'all just moved in a month ago but haven't had time to unpack fully. Now you had a real reason not to.
"I am moving out..." You stated with a sniffle "We are over." You also stated wiggling your beautiful ring off.
You heard Mark trying to hold back his tears and he failed "Y/N, please..."
"Till death do us part, huh?" You said crying and putting the ring of your dreams on the clean marble kitchen counter. " I will have someone come and get my stuff tomorrow." You said looking him in the eyes one last time, the dreamy blue eyes that drew you in when you met him. You know he is the one. Sorry, that in past tense.
----
"Y/N?" You heard a familiar voice say.
"Huh?" You said coming back from your daydream, you turn to see your best friend, Derek Shepard, y'all have been friends since junior high along with Mark Sloan but he wasn't in the equation at the moment.
"You, okay?" He asked with a face of worry.
Derek met someone a couple of weeks or months ago, he got over the whole spouse cheating thing quicker than you did. You can't blame him he met someone new, someone who was better with him, they made since together. Addison and Derek only knew each other for a handful of years while you and Mark have been on and off since sophomore year of high school. You and Mark had history together, and Mark just threw that away.
"Yeah..." You said with a sigh "Just tired, didn't get much sleep last night.
You and Derek needed to get out of New York, you both got offers at Seattle Grace Hospital. For you it was Head Attending of Ortho (lets pretend Caliee stays a resident, okay?) and for him it was Head Attending of Neruo .
"You have been saying that since we got here..." He said softly looking through a chart of one his patients.
" Yeah Yeah.." You said looking off into a far wondering what your life would be like if Mark didn't tell you the truth, it would have come out one way or another, right?
"Y/N, you need to get over him." Derek said coldly closing the chart aggressively
"I am, on my time..." You said walking away.
----
You were on the elevator waiting for it to get to the surgical floor, you hated elevators, you don't like being quiet in one place for to long, you think to much about your thoughts. And right now, you didn't want to think about what you always thought about...that night.
"I am moving out..." You stated with a sniffle "We are over." You also stated wiggling your beautiful ring off.
You heard Mark trying to hold back his tears and he failed "Y/N, please..."
The elevator doors opened with a ping and you walk out to find Addison Montgomery-Shepard talking to Derek. You hate her with all of your heart no all of your body. Your heart, your pelvis, your spine, your aorta, your brain, your skeleton, and all of the above.
You walked over head high and confident this husband stealing bitch will not get the best of you. You aren't going to burst into tears. No. New Y/N would not. But new Y/N doesn't think about her cheating husband all the time. Thats when it hit you, you haven't officially divorced Mark. Then it hit you again. You had to divorce Mark, your Mark. The love of your life, your other half, your soulmate, the one, your husband, your partner in crime, your person, your best of friend.
You hadn't realized you were standing in the middle of the Surgical Floor, with a tear running down your cheek. You sniffled and tried to make your way past Addison and Derek without getting involved but then again you are involved in every bit.
You walked up to them and look her in the eye and said "What are you, doing here, Addison?" You said faking cheeriness.
She never saw you after the whole thing.
Her face turned white, and she said "Hey, Y/N..." with an apologetic smile.
"I asked, what are you doing here?" You said with a fake smile and saw Derek on the verge of a grin.
"Um..the chief-" She mumbled
"Huh?" You interrupted, Addison for some reason was intimated by you, which doesn't make sense because she let your husband cheat on you with her, sooooo?
"The Chief of Surgery asked if I would like to be the Head Attending of Neonatal Surgery (look it up, it's cool) here at Seattle Grace." She said a little bit louder and confidante.
"Interesting. Derek, we have patient." You said looking at Derek.
"Ah, yes." He said walking to the patient room with you following behind him.
----
It been a generous number of horrid weeks with Addison Montogomery, she has been on multiple of your patient cases. You're going crazy.
You were in the cafeteria with Bailey, she is your only real friend, because apparently Derek is giving Addison a second chance. Ridicloius.
"Thats the whole, story?" Bailey asked as she digged into her lunch.
"Yeah, the worst story that is happens to my life." You sighed biting into your sandwich.
"No. It's a horrible event that happened in your life, there's a difference. Neither is great but there's a difference." She said looking your eyes with seriousness.
"I know, just being dramatic. How are your interns?" You replied putting your sandwich do as you were no longer hungry.
"Their annoying and quite frankly a bit clingy whatsoever but they will most likely do fine."
You laughed at her reply, "They tend to be like that." You found your eyes at Derek and Addison at their own separate table, laughing, like nothing even remotely happened.
You sighed, "I can't watch that, sorry Bailey." You said with an apologetic smile, getting up and grabbing barely touched lunch to throw it away.
"It's fine. Go hop on a surgery, it will make feel better." She said.
"Thanks." You called walking out of the cafeteria.
You were looking over a new patient's chart to make sure you understand and knew the case well. You were on a gurney which abandoned in the halls. You heard some chattering from the front desk as you were hall that wrapped around it.
(By the way, you go by Dr. L/N-Sloan. You used to go by Dr. Sloan fully but...)
"Do you know where I can find a Dr. Sloan?" A distanced familiar deep voice asked.
A nurse at the front desk replied with "Dr. L/N-Sloan? They are in the hall over there."
"Ah. Thanks." He replied with a tone of sadness.
Then it clicked the familiar deep voice, you pondered and pondered who it belonged to...Mark Sloan. It made even more sense, when you and him made eye contact.
I have to get out of here, I have to get out of here. Is what you said in your head as you swiftly walked away but he caught up and grabbed your arm.
"Can I at least say hi, to my spouse." He said softly, turning you around to face him.
My family- Draco Malfoy x Reader (REPOST)
Posted OCTOBER 06, 2020
Reposted APRIL 16, 2023
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Warnings- Body image issues and you might blush
——————————————————————————
You sat in yours and Draco’s living room, watching both of your kids play. Raynor, who is 6, was sitting on the floor playing with building blocks and Sloan, who is 4, was just playing with dolls. Draco was at work still, so you were still on kid duty. Meaning, that you weren’t able to do anything and you were honestly too afraid to.
You were very surprised though that it was peaceful because fights happen very often between your two kids. The one that they had a couple of weeks ago though was pretty bad. Sloan, your little girl, made Raynor, your little boy, mad, and then they started fighting which caused Raynor to hit Sloan. But then Sloan bit Raynor. It took so much effort to pull the two apart but at the end of it, they were both crying and Raynor was bleeding.
You looked up at the clock on the wall that showed Draco would get home any minute now. You looked down at yourself to see that you were still in a tank top and booty shorts. You did not look presentable at all.
You huffed and pushed yourself off of the sofa to look in the mirror that was in the living room. You saw the stretch marks on your thighs and saw how your boobs were practically spilling out of the top of your tank top. “Having two kids really does a lot to you,” you mumbled and then looked over at your children who were still playing nicely.
You then heard the front door open and a, “I’m home!”. “Daddy!” both of your children yelled, dropping their toys and running toward the front door. You slowly made your way over to see Draco spinning your children in the air and kissing them. You stayed silent as you watched the cute moment unfold. Draco then stopped and sat his stuff down on the bench next to the front door.
“Hello Love,” he greeted you as he walked up to you. “Hi,” you said sheepishly as he kissed your cheek, “Sorry about this,” you apologized to him and motioned to your outfit. “Don’t be,” he said and gave you another kiss on the cheek. You smiled and followed him to your shared bedroom.
“So honey, how was your day at the Ministry?” you asked him as he kicked off his shoes and walked into your shared walk-in closet, closing the door. You leaned against the door so you two could have a conversation.
“It was good, how about yours?” he asked and you heard shuffling. “It was good, I promise I did stuff today. I didn’t just sit around looking like a hot mess all day,” you said which made him chuckle. “Well I think you look gorgeous, dear,” he said as he opened up the closet door. He was now in black sweat pants and a black t-shirt.
“Well thank you for the flattery but we’ve been married for 7 years, you don’t need to compliment me,” you told him and started walking away. He swiftly pulled you back and kissed you. “You’re my wife and I can compliment you whenever I like,” he told you, which made blush rise on your cheeks.
You then walked back out to the living room together to find your children peacefully playing once again. “Well, that’s unusual,” Draco said and looked over at you, “they would usually be at each other’s throats,”. “We thought that mom was looking a little rough lately so Sloan and I decided to behave and not fight,” Raynor said simply and went back to playing.
You frowned a little and looked down at yourself. “Say sorry to your mother,” Draco told the boy sternly. “No, sweetie, it’s fine. He doesn’t have to apologize, he didn’t say anything wrong,” you told him and rubbed his back gently before walking to the kitchen.
You sighed as you pulled out your wand and started waving it around, ingredients flying in the air to make dinner. You stood there lazily with no expression on your face, you were still thinking about what your son had said.
“Jesus, even our son thinks I’m a mess,” you chuckled as you felt arms snake around your waist. “But love, you’re not a mess. You’re a mother, and a great one at that,” Draco whispered and gave you a kiss on your neck.
“Mommy!” you heard from behind you. Draco and you turned around to see Raynor standing there with Sloan behind him. “I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings, you just haven’t been looking well lately so we wanted to make it easier for you,” your son told you.
“Wait, what do you mean? How has mommy not been looking well?” Draco asked, concerned. “She just looked pale and she even threw up a few days ago,” Sloan told him. Draco’s eyes went wide as he looked over at you.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were sick? You know I would have taken off of work to take care of you,” Draco told you and hugged you. “Well then, I guess you’ll have to take 9 months off of work,” you told him and giggled slightly. “9 months? That’s ridiculous-” his eyes then went wide as he realized what you just said.
He then looked down at your stomach and then at you. “Are you-? I’m gonna-”, “You’re going to be a dad, again,” you whispered and held your stomach. He smiled really big and hugged you super tight and then kissed you all over your face.
“I’m gonna be a father again!” he yelled and then started kissing your stomach. “Draco, stop it,” you giggled.
“I’m confused,” Sloan stated, to which Raynor said, “Me too.”. “You guys are going to be big siblings!” you cheered and then went to hug them. “Really?! Wait, where?” Sloan said and started looking around. “The baby is in here,” you told her and pointed to your stomach. She walked up to your stomach and put her face on it. “Hi baby, I’m your big sister, I hope we can play when I see you,” she whispered to your stomach.
“Aw,” you squealed and then looked over at Draco, who was looking at you admiringly. He couldn’t believe he was going to be a father to one more child and that you were the one carrying it. Draco hugged you and your children while putting a hand on your stomach and whispered, “My family,”.

Tumblr media
Summary: Boise is expecting you, your brother, your husband and the residents to help with their conjoined twin surgery. You’re all prepared to go, practicing for weeks for the surgery except you never make it to Boise. Well, not for the reason you were going at least.
Warnings: Angst, Blood, Miscarriage, Depression, PTSD?
Pairings: Mark Sloan x Wife!Reader, Derek Shepherd x Sister!Reader
@redama: Mark Sloan x wife!reader? Where during the plane crash the reader is on the plane as well. I want it to be angsty and Mark is completely in love with reader and Lexi is just a friend and nothing more. If you decide to stick with what happened in the show and Mark dies then have the reader die in the woods please. If Mark lives then maybe the reader can live too. I've always liked Mark and I feel like his character development was wasted when he died. Thanks in advance!!!
AN: Dude I literally just watched the airplane episode! First four times I watched it didn’t cry, this time, tears. So I'm fresh off the angst train for you! And I definitely agree with you, they did Mark dirty. 💙
So for this, Mark did not sleep with Callie! More like it was just a sperm donation so she could have a baby but they did not sleep together!
Every medical term used that was not in the episode was taken from sites on google.
Please do not read any further if miscarriage is a trigger for you! I didn’t go into detail about how but I know it can be triggering for some!

“You son of a bitch. I had to hear it from Hunt? What you couldn’t even be man enough to tell me yourself?”
“Sweetie.”
Callie turned towards Alex, sighing softly.
“She has had a horrible day, I am so-”
“No, you ungrateful crap dog!”
“Robins they want me. Alright, they really want me.”
“It’s Hopkins. You went there. You of all people should know that.”
“You are a miserable, miserable bastard.”
Arizona stepped back, gasping.
“Oh well you, you’re actually going?”
“Can we talk about this when I get back?”
“No!”
Arizona grabbed the charts from Alex, bringing them to her chest.
“What are you doing?”
“Look at Alex, showing us all up by going to Hopkins.”
“No you are not going to Boise because you no longer represent this hospital!”
“Oh give me a break!”
I grinned as I handed the nurse my chart, walking past them.
“If Robins lets him live that long.”
Meredith and Cristina laughed, the two carrying on with their conversation as I stopped in front of Mark and Derek.
“Think Arizona kills him before we leave or when we get back?”
Mark grinned, laughing.
“Arizona won’t kill him, yet. There’s to many witnesses.”
I laughed, shaking my head as Derek handed me my jacket.
“Fine you know what? Forget the charts. Go see if they need help in the clinic.”
“I’ve been prepping for this surgery for days!”
Alex ended up walking away as Callie tried to calm Arizona down, Mark wrapping his arm around me as we walked out of the hospital, Mark helping me onto the bus before he was putting our things in the back, helping Derek. It was a quick ride to the airport, our bags being taken as we boarded the plane. I took my jacket off as I sat down, Mark coming in after Derek and Meredith who sat behind us.
“Oh this is crap!”
“You know what? Fine! Fine!”
“You okay? I know you don’t like to fly.”
I smiled, taking Mark’s hand in mine.
“I’ll be okay. You’re here with me.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
A month ago, you were in med school being taught by doctors. Today, you are the doctors. The seven years you spend here as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your arena. How well you play, that’s up to you.
“Mer? Meredith! Meredith! Get up! You have to get up, now! Meredith! Get up!”
Meredith groaned as Cristina pulled her up, looking around. She could see a part of the plane and Mark, Arizona screaming.
“How long was I out?”
“I don’t, I-I don’t know. I lost my, I lost my shoe!”
Meredth gasped as she pulled the shard of glass out of her leg, wrapping the shirt around it.
“Where’s, where’s Derek and Lexie?”
“I don’t, I don’t know. I lost a shoe.”
“What happened?”
“The plane crashed, that’s what happened. We were in a plane and it crashed! Plane crash.”
“Where is Derek?”
Meredith’s voice carried as she looked around, turning.
“Cristina, where is Derek?”
“He was sucked out the side when we hit the trees, and then the back of the plane came off. It came, it came off.”
Meredith reached back, feeling something wet on her fingers.
“Lexie and Y/N  were in the back of the plane.”
“I-I looked to the back and all I could see was freaking sky.”
“Where are they?”
“I don’t know! I only have one shoe!”
“I’m bleeding.”
Cristina turned towards Arizona, yelling.
“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!”
Arizona whimpered when they heard something banging, looking around for the source.
“Do you hear, do you hear that sound?”
“There.”
Arizona pointed towards the hill.
“It’s coming from over there.”
It took them some time, walking up the hill and over the broken tree’s when they stopped, seeing the tail end of the plane.
“Derek! Lexie! Y/N!”
They looked around, seeing movement from under the bed.
“Lexie.”
Mark got down on the ground, laying on his front as he reached under, placing his fingers on Lexi’s neck, feeling for a pulse.
“Lexie. Lexie.”
“I knew you'd show up.”
“How is she?”
Mark turned back towards Meredith, nodding slightly before he looked back over at Lexi.
“She's awake and responsive.”
“How you doing in there?”
“I'm, I'm great.”
“Yeah?”
Mark smiled softly, nodding.
“Good girl.”
“We're gonna get you outta here, okay?”
“Okay.”
Mark got up, placing his hands on his knees, his breathing laboured.
“She's tachycardic and short of breath.”
“We have to find Derek and Y/N.”
“We've got Lexie. So go. Go find him. Go, go. Go try and find them.”
“Okay, you know what?”
Cristina nodded, turning towards Meredith.
Meredith nodded, turning when Mark called out.
“Wait a minute.”
He got back down on the ground, looking over at Lexi.
“Lexi, Lexi where is Y/N? Did you see her?”
Lexi coughed as she slowly shook her head.
“She, she was walking by me and then she was gone.”
Mark clenched his jaw as he nodded, getting up and looking over at Meredith.
“Keep an eye out for Y/N? She’s out there somewhere.”
Meredith nodded as she turned, calling out for Derek and Y/N.
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
Cristina could just barely hear Meredith calling out for Derek and Y/N as she walked back towards the plane, her arm in a sling made out of a shirt. Cristina started grabbing some sticks, a piece of metal she had found that was still in good shape, a shirt and a belt, throwing it down beside Arizona, kneeling in front of her.
“I’m gonna try and splint this.”
“No I can do it. I can do it.”
She sniffled as she grabbed the belt from Cristina, looking up towards the plane.
“Uh, Jerry needs c-spine stabilization.”
“Who's Jerry?”
Cristina gave Arizona the things she had grabbed, looking over at her when Arizona nodded up towards the plane.
“How are you doing there, Jerry?”
Cristina made a face as she got up, huffing.
“I give us four hours tops before they find us.”
Cristina stopped in the doorway, leaning against it.
Cristina walked around the plane to the opening in the back.
“There's a transmitter in the plane that lets out a squawk that should lead 'em right to us.”
“Did you find Derek?”
“Uh, not yet. Uh, Jerry, uh, do you, uh, have any tape?”
“In the cabinet to your left. There's a flare gun in there, too.”
“Uh, yeah. In the bulkhead.”
Cristina nodded, turning and opening the cabinet.
“Yes.”
“You hear a chopper, you fire it straight up.”
“And Lexie?”
“Not good.”
Cristina went to turn when she saw a broken board, picking it up.
“Oh, great. Great, great, great, great, great.”
Cristina placed the board behind Jerry’s back, pulling the tape and cutting it with her teeth.
“What about Y/N?”
“We can’t find her.”
Arizona yelped as she twisted the stick, whimpering.
“Okay, keep your head very still.”
Cristina wrapped the tape around Jerry’s head, checking to make sure it was secure.
“Yeah.”
“Okay. Good, good.”
Cristina leaned forward, sighing softly.
Cristina turned, sighing.
“Jerry, is there a first aid kit?”
“A yeah, a big one. In the cabinet on your right, behind the cockpit.”
“There's no cabinet there.”
“Just tell her to hang on for another four hours.”
Cristina grabbed the backpack from the ground, yanking the cabinet open, pushing the water bottles out, falling to the ground as she stuffed them into the bag.
“Great.”
“I'm sorry.”
“Hey, hey, wait. Don't leave! I-I can't feel my legs. That's because I'm trapped, right? I mean, I'm gonna be okay, right? I'm not paralyzed. I'm gonna walk again. I'm gonna be okay, right?”
Cristina made a face as she zipped the backpack up, getting up and turning back towards Jerry. She grabbed the pen she saw, picking it up and slamming it into Jerry’s leg.
Cristina grabbed what she could carry, placing the backpacks on her shoulders as Arizona screamed and cried.
“Cristina.”
Cristina stopped, turning as Meredith walked towards her.
“I can't find him. I can’t find him or Y/N. I looked everywhere. I can't find him.”
Cristina nodded, walking towards Meredith.
“Maybe he's fine. Maybe he went for help.”
“Maybe, but I gotta, I gotta keep looking.”
Cristina shook her head, looking in Meredith’s eyes.
“No, Meredith. You should come help Lexie.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
First it was cold. Then it was hot. Searing hot. It felt like my entire body was on fire as I came to, gasping. I shook my head as I looked around, tilting my head to the side as everything was upside down.
“Wh-
“Y/N!”
I looked around, not seeing anyone but trees and a part of the plane. The plane was hanging in the tree above me, and I was upside down, my foot caught in a branch as the other dangled.
“Oh god.”
It took me some time to get my left foot onto the branch where my right foot was caught, any movement I made only causing me more pain. I closed my eyes once I was about to keep my foot on the branch, swinging back. I screamed, trying to grab onto anything to stop myself from swinging. I placed my hand on my chest, feeling around for any broken ribs, groaning when it felt like two were broken.
“Come on Y/N, you can do this.”
Gasping, I swung myself back, groaning as I tried to grab the branch.
“Come on, come on.”
My fingers skimmed the branch the second time, and I whimpered as I swung back a third time, grabbing the branch.
“Yes!”
It took longer than I’d like to admit, pulling myself up. Luckily Mark liked to work out in the mornings, the push ups I said I’d never need to use coming in handy. It was hard, pushing myself up and twisting so I could get my foot from the branch. Everything I tried to do only seemed to make it worse, and I knew the others were too far to help, and there was no telling what their conditions were. Before I could think too much about it, I yanked my leg really hard, gasping once it was free.
“Oh thank god.”
My relief was short lived as I lost my grip on the branch, hitting the branches as I fell to the ground, my eyes closing.
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
“Derek! Derek! Y/N! Y/N!”
“I don't understand how this keeps happening.”
“Cristina, we have to find him.”
“I'm serious. I do not understand how this keeps happening.”
“We have to find him, because I don't think he went for help.”
“We keep dying. We're in a plane crash, Mer. Like, like right now.”
“If he went for help, if Derek had gone for help, he would've sent a message or something. I mean, we have to find him. Something is wrong.”
“I can tell you one thing. When we get out of here, I am getting the hell away from Seattle Grace mercy death, and I'm never looking back!”
“Cristina I think Derek is dead. “
Cristina turned towards Meredith, tears streaming down her face as she shook her head, waving her hand around.
“He would've come for us by now. He definitely would've come for us by now. I think he's dead. And Lexie's dead. And Y/N probably is dead. My husband and my sisters are all dead! And we are gonna die out here, too! We are gonna die out here-
Cristina placed her good hand on the side of Meredith’s face, shaking her slightly.
“Keep it together. Keep it together.”
Meredith shook her head, yelling.
“No, you keep it together!”
“I'm trying! I know. Keep keep it together anyway. Keep it together anyway.”
“My sister is dead.”
Crisitna’s face fell as she nodded, sighing.
“Keep it together anyway.”
“Do you think Derek and Y/N are dead?
“I don't know. Maybe. But I've got P.T.S.D., so you know I'm not reliable.”
“Cristina You are still my person, even if I'm not yours.”
Meredith started to cry, causing Cristina to start to cry.
“Meredith, Meredith.”
“Meredith.”
They both turned, seeing Derek stumbling towards them, cradling his hand to his chest. “Oh, I heard your voice. I thought, I, I thought I was dreaming.”
He fell to the ground, Meredith gasping as she walked towards him.
“Oh, my God.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
Cristina was rummaging through their things in the plan3, pulling out what they could use.
“Oh, I found it!”
“The first aid box?”
“My shoe.”
“Is she gonna be okay?”
“She's not barefoot anymore.”
“Well, I guess that's something.”
Cristina placed everything in a suitcase after putting her shoe on, pulling it behind her as she walked back towards Meredith and Derek. Meredith was pouring the alcohol on Derek’s arm, causing him to yell.
“Aah! Son of a damn it.”
“I know.”
“Oh, son of a-”
“I know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.”
“Where's Lexie?”
Meredith felt the tears coming again as Derek shook his head.
“No?”
“Oh.”
“Okay, let's just keep it together, okay?”
“What about Y/N?”
Meredith gasped, looking down at Derek.
“We haven’t found her. Mark went looking for her but I made him come back, I was scared he’d get lost.”
Derek nodded, biting his bottom lip.
“Loosen the tourniquet a little bit.”
“You'll bleed to death.”
“I need to save my hand.”
“Well, I'm trying to save your life.”
“Okay, we have to close the wound.”
Cristina fell to her knees on the other side of Derek, laying the things she brought in front of her.
“Use the safety pin.”
Cristina handed Meredith the safety pin as Meredith looked down at Derek.
“Weave your way inside and out and then put the bandana on top of it and tape it.”
“And what's the what's the t-shirt for?”
“Put it in my mouth. I'm probably gonna scream a lot, and I'm gonna I'm gonna, I'm gonna pass out.”
Cristina placed the shirt in Derek’s mouth, holding it there as Meredith started to weave the safety pin.
“Okay. Good. Okay. Sorry. I'm sorry Please pass out. Please pass out. Please pass out.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
Cristina gasped as she found matches, holding them up towards Meredith.
“Matches. Yes, God. Finally, fire. We can build a fire.”
“We should. They'll see a fire. Let's get a fire started.”
“Yeah, Mark. We need, we need to start a fire.”
Cristina bit her lip as she got up, walking towards Mark.
“Mark. Mark. You have to help.”
Meredith moved to get up, shaking her head.
“I-I'll figure out how to get it started.”
“No, no. You know what? He doesn't get to do this. He doesn't get to stop helping. I'm sorry we can’t find Y/N, but she was Derek’s sister, she was your sister, and you're still helping. He has to help because the sky is falling, Mark.”
“Cristina.”
Cristina turned back towards Derek, yelling as she waved her arm around.
“No, no, no. You know, if there's one thing that I've learned with all the the bombs and the guns to my head and and the buses running down my friends is that I am not interested in dying. I want to get out of here, and I want to go home. And everyone has to help. Mark, get up. Get up and help, Mark. Get up.”
Cristina placed her hand on his shoulder, causing Mark to fall forward, Cristina grabbing his face in her hand, feeling for a pulse.
“Mark? Mark? Mark? Mark. Please. Please be okay.”
She grabbed him by his shirt, pulling him down to the ground, ripping his scrub top.
“Mark. Oh! Oh, crap. Mer!”
Meredith helped Derek over to Mark, kneeling on Mark’s left as Derek kneeled beside Cristina who was listening to his heart.
“It's a cardiac tamponade.”
“Are you sure?”
“Seventy five percent. Seventy percent sure.”
Derek looked over at Meredith, making a face.
“That’s not very sure.”
“Well, if you want me to be sure, get me an ultrasound.
“We have to drain his pericardial sac and relieve the pressure, or or his heart will stop.
“With what? We don't even have an 18-gauge spinal needle.
“I don't know.”
“All right. Okay, I got it.”
Derek held the bottle towards Cristina, nodding.
“Okay. Hold this. Take the top off. Okay.”
“Why?”
“Use that right there.”
“Ohh.”
Cristina unscrewed the lid, pulling it out of the bottle.
“Use the tube.”
“Brilliant. Brilliant. Okay, this will work.”
Cristina held it out towards Meredith, leaning forward slightly.
“Sanitize that.”
“Is the tubing long enough?”
Cristina moved over to make room for Meredith, holding the tube.
“I'm going in, um, subxiphoid. Knife.”
Derek handed her the knife, Cristina spraying as Meredith cut.
Mark groaned, arching his back, Derek moving forward to keep him down.
“Okay needle”
“All right, Mark. Try not to move.”
“Easy, Mark. It's okay. Don't move. It's gonna be okay.”
“Aim for his left shoulder.”
“Wait. Don't puncture his heart.”
“I know, I know.”
Meredith stabbed the needle into Mark’s chest, Mark groaning.
“Deeper!”
Meredith pushed it deeper, blood pouring out of the needle.
“Good. Excellent. That's it. That's it. That's it. Great. Very good.
“It's gonna be okay.”
“That's good. That's it. That's exactly it.
“You did it.”
Cristina placed the bottle at the end of the needle as Derek sighed.
“Just let it drain into here.
“Oh, you did it. You got it.”
Derek kissed Meredith’s cheek as she nodded, smiling slightly.
“I got it.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
Cristina and Derek pulled Mark in front of Arizona, gasping as Meredith sat down behind Arizona.
“Hey. Mark? What happened?”
“Tamponade. Mer did a pericardiocentesis.”
“Oh, my God.”
“He's holding on for now.”
Arizona turned her head to look back at Meredith, looking around.
“Where's Lexie?”
Arizona looked up at Derek and then back at Meredith, getting louder.
“And Y/N?”
“They’re dead.”
Arizona gasped as she held back her tears, looking down at Mark.
“So we should get a fire started.”
“Oh, I've got I've got the matches.
Cristina handed the matches to Derek, sighing.
“We have five left.”
Derek nodded as he walked by Meredith.
“Make it big so they see.”
Arizona leaned her head back, cutting her eyes over to where Jerry was.
“What happened to the four hours, Jerry? It's been more than four hours.”
“Shh. Listen.”
“What does that mean? I mean, does that mean that they're not coming for us? I mean, you said four hours. You said four hours tops.”
“Ch-chopper!”
Cristina stopped what she was doing as Derek looked over at her, both of them looking up towards the sky.
“Oh, my God. It's a helicopter!”
“Hey! Help! Help! Hey!”
“Where is it? I don't see it.”
“I don't see it.”
“Help!”
“Get the flare gun! The flare gun! In the bag! In the bag!”
Meredith turned, grabbing the flare gun.
“Oh, God, shoot it!”
“We're down here! Come back!”
Meredith took aim, pulling the trigger.
“Why isn't it working?”
“Shoot it again! Shoot it again!”
“Give it to me.”
Derek took the gun from Meredith, trying it.
“Help! Help!”
“Oh, my God, no! Help!”
“Oh, my God.”
Derek cut his eyes down at the flare gun, making a face before he threw it.
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
Derek leaned against the side of the plane, listening to Jerry.
“Hey, they don't know where we are. They don't know where we are. It's because the transmitter's probably been damaged in the crash. If the transmitter's damaged-”
“We could be here for days.”
“Yeah.”
Derek looked over at Meredith, his face falling.
“Zola.”
Cristina turned towards Meredith, sighing.
“Owen has got to have figured out we're missing. I know he sent someone.”
Arizona was nodding off when Mark started to move, gasping and groaning. She woke up, looking down at Mark.
“Mark?”
His eyes were closed as she ran her fingers through his hair, her other hand on his chest when his eyes fluttered open.
“I shoulda said it earlier That I loved her. I shoulda said it earlier.”
“She, She knew. She knew Mark. Y/N knew.”
Mark slightly shook his head, groaning.
“She didn't know. She didn't know.”
His eyes started to close causing Arizona to panic, tears falling.
“Mark Mark, hold on. Okay, I need you I need you to hold on. You'll be okay.”
“You don't need me. You take care of our girls.”
“Shut up. Do you hear me? Shut up.”
“No. Shut up.”
Arizona gasped, shaking her head.
“Y/N's waiting for me. I'll be okay.”
“No! Mark Sloan, no! Hey! No. No. Sofia's waiting for you, and Callie is waiting for you, and I am waiting for you. We're gonna go home together, okay?”
Mark groaned as he nodded, his eyes closing.
“Inhh okay. Okay.”
“Okay. Okay.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
When I opened my eyes again it was dark out. I groaned as I sat up, looking around. I nearly wept when I saw a small light, pushing myself to get up. I wasn’t even half way up before I was falling again, crying out. I had to crawl to the tree, using it for leverage as I pulled myself up. I was able to pull a broken branch, using it as a walking stick, walking towards the source of light.
Good morning, Dr. Hunt. This is Dr.Sheehan over at Boise memorial. I just wanted to double-check what time your surgeons were set to arrive today.
“I'm hungry.”
“Think of something else.”
“I'm hungry.”
“I have a stick of gum.”
“I don't want gum.”
“I want food.”
I gasped as I fell again, huffing as I looked up at the hill.
“Come on dammit!”
Dr. Hunt, Dr. Sheehan again. Still no word from your surgeons. I'm gonna check in with the airport to see if the weather held 'em up.
The fire slowly started to go out, Cristina grabbing a stick and pushing it, grabbing the box of matches, shaking it.
“Oh. Shoot.”
“Great. We have one match left.”
She turned towards Meredith, slightly pushing her.
“Hey. No sleeping.”
“Yeah.”
“You have to stay awake.”
“Okay.”
“Derek. Derek. You, too. I want everyone conscious!”
“Okay.”
Cristina held the match box open towards Meredith.
“Mer, light the match. Careful. It's our last one.”
Meredith swiped the match against the side of the box, the match going out before she could relight the fire.
“Meredith.”
Cristina and Meredith both looked up, looking over towards the tree line, gasping.
“Y/N.”
Derek woke up when Meredith pushed him, groaning.
“Wha?”
Derek looked to where Meredith was pointing, seeing his sister walking towards them, dried blood along her hair line, blood pouring from her side where her hand was.
“Derek.”
They all gasped when Y/N’s eyes rolled back, falling to the ground.
“Oh god.”
They all jumped up as Arizona shook Mark, smiling down at him.
“Mark, Mark, Mark it’s Y/N, she’s here. She’s okay.”
“She’s alive.”
Arizona nodded, gasping as she watched the three turn Y/N onto her back.
“Yeah, yeah, she’s alive. Y/N is alive.”
This is Dr. Sheehan again. We're starting to get a bit concerned here.
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
I groaned as I came to, seeing a blurry Derek and Cristina, feeling hands pressing down on me causing me to scream.
“You’re going to be okay Y/N. You hear me? You’re going to be okay.”
Cristina. I’m pregnant.
I felt something pierce my side, causing me to arch my back as I groaned.
“I need you to stay still, okay? Just stay still. It’ll be over soon, I promise.”
Meredith Why can’t you hear me?
“You’re doing so good sweetheart, just stay awake.”
Derek. Derek I’m pregnant.
“Hand me that shirt, I need to wrap this.”
Where’s Mark? And Lexi? Where are they?
“Oh god, her pupils blown.”
Cristina looked over at Derek, shaking her head.
“If we don’t get her out of here, she’ll die.”
“Let me see.”
Derek moved over me, shaking his head.
“No, it’s not blown, she’s always had a bigger pupil than the other.”
“I’m pregnant!”
Derek leaned back, his hand on my cheek, turning me to look at him.
“Y/N? Y/N did you say something?”
I gasped, my ears pounding as I looked up at Derek, tears falling down both our faces.
“I’m pregnant. I’m pregnant.”
Derek gasped, saying something to Meredith before I passed out again.
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
“Where’s-where’s my sister? Where is Lexie?”
Meredith tried to take her oxygen mask as she shot up, grabbing the doctors arm beside her.
“Alright, hold on. Hold on.”
“No, no, no, no.”
“Where’s my husband and Cristina? Oh god where’s Y/N?”
“Lay back and relax.”
“I have to get-”
“Alright.”
“I have to get my sister and my husband.”
The heart monitor started to beep faster and louder as the doctor tried to get Meredith to lay back down.
“I-my sister, Y/N, she’s pregnant. She’s pregnant.”
“Hey you can’t go in there!”
“Don’t tell me where I can go.”
“Doctor we’ve got them. We’re taking care of them.”
“There’s an infection and I need to see him.”
“Move.”
The doors opened, Meredith stopping as she looked over, seeing Bailey and Webber, Bailey holding Zola in her arms.
“Hey, that’s your mama.”
Meredith sat up, holding her arms out as Bailey walked closer.
“Hey honey.”
Bailey handed Meredith Zola, whispering.
“You sit here.”
Meredith hugged Zola to her chest, Zola whining.
“Okay, okay. Mama’s here baby.”
“There we go.”
“No.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
“Yes I’ll marry you, you dimwit.”
Her smile was contagious as he surged up, wrapping his arms around her, picking her up and spinning her around.
“Yes!”
Her laughter filling the air.
“Charge. Clear”
“What about babies?”
She shrugged, moving closer as she leaned her head back against his chest.
“Dunno. Not right now, but soon. We’d make some really pretty babies though.”
He laughed, wrapping his arms tighter around her.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Have you seen you? Sculpted by the gods I tell you.”
“Yeah, I got a pulse.”
“I love you.”
She lowered the magazine she was reading, eyeing him over the top of it.
“What did you do this time?”
He laughed, grinning as he knelt beside her, pushing her chair out slightly.
“Nothing, promise.”
She laughed, running her fingers through his hair.
“Oh really?”
“Marry me.”
She laughed, pulling her hand back and lifting it in front of her.
“I think I already said yes dummy.”
“Marry me again.”
“I-okay.”
“Yeah?”
She shrugged, leaning down and kissing him.
“Yeah.”
“Dam this dude is trying really hard to die.”
“Have you told him yet?”
“No Alex cause I’m not.”
She turned against the desk, leaning against it as she gave Alex a pointed stare.
“Why do you think I am anyway?”
He shrugged, copying her stance.
“Dude I work with pregnant women everyday. You have the symptoms of a pregnant woman.”
She scoffed as she stepped closer to Alex, her finger hitting his chest repeatedly as she spoke.
“I am not pregnant.”
She walked off, and it was then he decided to step out, Alex jumping when he saw him.
“What was that about?”
Alex shrugged, grabbing his chart, running into the wall when he turned.
“I don't- It’s not my place to tell.”
“Clear.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
They came to a stop outside her room, Owen sighing when he saw her. They had her bed sitting up slightly, her eyes closed, the heart wave moving steadily.
“We had to do emergency surgery on her side. Apparently she had a piece of the plane in her side, and it tore her lung and liver. She had pneumothorax, which we were able to take care of with a chest tube. Her clavicle, as well as four ribs were broken. Unfortunately, her x-rays showed that her tibia was torn and her fibula was crushed. We had to perform surgery on the leg, but we have high hopes for it. Her t11, t12 and l1 are torn, but until she wakes up we won’t know the extent of it.”
“Is that it?”
She shook her head, looking down at the floor before she looked back up.
“She was pregnant, but she had a miscarriage before they were found.”
“Is that why she’s sedated?”
She nodded, placing her hands in her jacket pocket.
“Yes. She had woken up once she was stable and when she had found out, she had, she was angry and she acted out. She broke one of our nurses' arm so we had to sedate her.”
“Is she stable enough to fly?”
“Yes but-”
Owen shook his head, turning towards her.
“No, I am taking them all home, now. Meredith said that they all need to be sedated so do it. Discharge them and sedate them. Do whatever you have to do. It’s time they came home.”
☤☤Three Months Later☤☤
Mark came to a stop beside Derek, standing beside his chair.
“I don’t know- how can I be there for her if I don’t know how to help her?”
Derek sighed as he looked up, looking at Y/N. She was laying in the bed, her eyes closed. It was the most peaceful he’d seen his sister since the plane crash. This was the third time in three weeks she had to be sedated, but this was the first time she’d actually looked, calm.
“She just needs time Mark. She lost her baby, she almost lost you. She died, twice. It’s all just- it’s a lot.”
“I want to help her but I don’t know what to do. She won’t even let me touch her.”
“Have you, have you thought about sending her upstairs?”
Mark turned, looking down at Derek, glaring.
“I am not having her committed! No!”
“It may help her. This isn’t, she’s not well. She needs help, help you and I can’t give.”
“She’s my wife.”
“She’s my sister!”
Mark clenched his jaw as he turned back towards the room Y/N was in, shaking his head.
“I am not having her committed.”
Mark walked off, pushing the door to her room open, grabbing the chair and pulling it behind, setting it beside her bed, sitting down in it, taking her hand in his. Derek leaned back in the chair, watching them. Derek felt helpless only four other times in his life, when their father was shot and he was having to hold Amelia down, when Meredith drowned and then died, when he found out that his little sister was not only dating Mark, but planning on marrying him, and when he couldn’t perform surgery anymore. But right now, for these past few months, he’d felt helpless. He was the big brother, he was supposed to protect his sisters but how was he supposed to protect his little sister from this?
☤☤Four Months Later☤☤
I smiled at Mark as he grabbed the chair at the other desk, pulling it towards me and sitting down, kissing my forehead.
“Seven.”
“How bad is it today? Scale of one to ten?”
I sighed, leaning back in my chair, clicking my pen.
“Are you- are you okay?”
“That’s not too bad.”
“Yeah.”
I smiled softly over at Mark, nodding slightly.
“I’m okay.”
He nodded, leaning forward and kissing me.
“Okay. Page me if you need anything?”
I nodded, turning back towards the computer.
“I will, promise.”
He nodded, standing up and kissing my forehead.
“Okay. Love you.”
I smiled, nodding.
“Love you too.”
☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤☤
I was at home, sitting against the wall, my arms wrapped around my knees as I cried. I had the day off, so I decided to clean up the apartment. I had completely forgotten about the box, tucked away in the far corner of the closet, hidden behind blankets and other things. But I had decided to clean out the closet, and I had found the box. The box filled with the baby items I was going to give to Mark to surprise him with. The box was upside down on the bed, the scrub onesie laid out in front of me. It was blue like the attending scrubs, white lettering on the front of it. I thought it was cute, “My dads a surgeon, hero.” The surgeon marked out with hero underneath, a pair of stethoscopes hanging off the “o” in hero. I had gotten a little hat to, the same navy blue color like his scrub cap. I had even gotten a little toy stethoscope. I had completely forgotten about the sonogram, the picture being the bain of my existence.
“Y/N? Sweetheart you here?”
I gasped, reaching up and wiping my tears.
“Y/N?”
I heard Mark walk into the room, looking up when he kneeled in front of me.
“Hey, hey what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
I nodded, sighing.
“Yeah, I just, I-I found the stupid box.”
“The box? What box?”
I nodded towards the bed where the things were laid out, watching as Mark turned towards the bed, squeezing my hand before he got up, walking towards the bed. He picked the sonogram up, gasping.
“Oh Y/N.”
“I had this big thing all planned out and I didn’t want you to find it so I had hid it in the back of the closet and since I had the day off I decided to clean up some and I was cleaning out the closet and I found it. I had, I completely forgot about it.”
I leaned down, placing my head on my arms, sobbing.
“Sweetheart, Y/N it’s okay.”
I gasped as Mark hugged me, pulling me into his chest, rubbing his hands along my spine.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. We were going to have a family and it, we were going to be a family. I-It’s my fault I lost the baby. If I had just-”
“Hey no, no, no, no. It wasn’t your fault. It isn’t your fault. It will never be your fault. Please, please don’t think it’s your fault or even say that it’s your fault because it’s not. Okay? It’s not your fault.”
“But I was supposed to protect him. I was meant to keep him safe.”
“I’m supposed to keep you both safe. I’m your husband, and I promised to protect you no matter what. I failed, so technically it’s my fault.”
I made a face, leaning up and looking up at Mark, shaking my head.
“It-That’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever said. And you’ve said a lot of stupid shit before.”
He laughed as I reached up, placing my hand on his cheek.
“Mark, you have to believe me, there is no way it was your fault. You-It isn’t your fault.”
“Then why are you saying it’s yours?”
“Because I- I was his mother. I was supposed to keep him safe for nine months, just nine months and I couldn’t even do that.”
“I was his dad. I’m supposed to protect him and you. But Y/N listen to me, what happened, it was out of our hands. There was nothing, no way we could’ve prevented what happened.”
“I could’ve not went. I could’ve stayed in Seattle. The board could’ve looked into the plane. Webber could’ve not planted the seed in Alex’s head to pit Seattle against another hospital making Owen have to cut the funding, making him have to sign for the change in planes.”
“Y/N-”
I shook my head, huffing.
“No, no! This is- all of this could’ve been avoided!”
Mark laughed, causing me to glare up at him.
“This is not funny. Why are you laughing?”
“You Shepherds, you all hold grudges. Derek held a grudge against Owen for weeks after we all got back. Guess now it’s your turn.”
I nodded, moving so I was leaning against Mark’s chest, my head resting in the crook of his neck.
“Seems bout right.”
Mark smiled as he kissed my forehead, squeezing me.
“Besides, we’re already a family, we’re just, expanding. And whenever you’re ready, we can always try again.”
I nodded, smiling as I kissed his jaw.
“Okay.”
“I love you, you know that right?”
I made a face, leaning up and placing my hands on both sides of his face, smiling softly.
“Of course I know Mark.”
I leaned down, kissing him.
“Of course I know you love me. I love you too.”
Mark grinned as he surged forward, pushing me onto my back, hovering over me, causing me to laugh as he kissed me.
“I love you. I love you. I love you.”
I laughed, running my fingers through his hair as I grasped his bicep.
“I love you too you idiot.”
The years we spend as surgical residents will be the best and worst of our lives. We will be pushed to our breaking point. This is the starting line. This is our arena. How well we play, that's up to us.

MASTERLIST

"At this point I'd be discharging you but unfortunately this is home tonight" locking the breaks in place on your patient's wheelchair you gave him a blanket to keep warm during the night
The raging storm outside only seem to get worse with each passing second, sighing you were about to move on to your next patient when the screeching of tires caught your attention
Everything happened so fast, the speeding bus came charging in, crashing into the vehicles parked just outside, it lifted into the air a few feet before landing on its side, the front broke into flames
"Oh God" without a second thought you charged out the door
"Y/N!"
The heavy downpour soaked your navy blue scrubs as you ran to the emergency exit hatch at the back of the bus. The groans and cries of the passengers were deafening as you and a few other medical staff began evacuating the bus that could blow up at any second
"Get them inside as fast as you can!" helping a middle aged woman to her feet you eagerly ushered her out of the vehicle
"Help me!" to your right a man was trapped beneath one of the seats that flipped, taking a hold of the edge of the seat you tried to move it on your own when someone else came to assist you
"On three we lift!" Mark yelled above the noise and you nodded repositioning yourself
"One, two, three lift!" grunting you both freed the man and Mark helped him up
"Can you walk?" using your flashlight you assessed the man for any injuries, in this position you could tell he needed stitches for the cut at the back of his head and a CT scan
"Yeah I think so" Mark slung the man's arm over his shoulder and turned to face you
"Avery and Hunt evacuated everyone else c'mon let's go!"
"I'm right behind you" the three of you maneuvered your way out into the raging storm Mark's pace picked up and you quickly scanned the area when your eyes landed on a child's shoe near the flames at the front
You hadn't recalled seeing a child anywhere during this chaos. Jackson and Owen were carrying a woman just a few feet away
"Have you guys seen a child?!"
"No!"
Looking at the front of the bus you rushed over, trying your best to avoid the raging flames you flashed your light and saw a little girl sitting against the seat
"Hey sweetie we need to get you our of here okay, what's your name?" the little girl was clearly in shock, reaching your hand out you smiled at her, you tried not to scare her any further as you noticed the fire beginning to spread behind her
"I like your shoe, I bet it makes you run really fast, come on let's see if it does" hesitantly she reached out and held onto your hand and you quickly scooped her into your arms
You booked it as far as you could with the little girl attached to you. Behind you, you could hear the shouts of your name from friends and husband
Before you could duck for cover behind the cars there was a loud explosion and you felt the heat of the flames as debris from the bus scattered around you
"Y/N! Y/N!" Mark was in a total state of panic the longer his wife wasn't in his view, he surely was about to break down but then he saw your soaked frame rushing towards him with a child
Avery took the child out of your arms and Mark wasted no time in crashing his lips into yours, relieved that you weren't hurt in all this chaos
"Never do that again"

Almost Had a Husband, but Couldn’t Keep Him
Tumblr media
Summary:
“I care, your sister cares, Derek cares, Richard—” “If Richard cared, he wouldn’t have made me work with Mark,” you interjected, “and if Addison cared, she wouldn’t have…she….” you divulge into blabbering as the feeling of hurt resurfaces again. The tears start up, and no amount of harsh rubbing will get rid of them. You hold your head in your hands, then throw the bottle against the wall; it shatters into pieces as you start laughing.

George practically runs into the others, grabbing each of them before they can spy into the chief’s office and picking apart whatever both Dr. Shepherds were saying, correction yelling at him.
“What the hell, George?! We were getting some prime-time material!” Christina complained.
“Forget that; I’ve got something better.”
Alex butted in, “We’re talking Dr. Shepherd-level drama.” He shoved George aside, “You know that consultant doctor that stopped by—”
“He’s Dr. Sloan’s fiance—”
“Ex-fiance,” Alex corrects.
Christina’s mouth opens wide, as does Meredith, Izzie covers her mouth, and the three of them stand there in silence as they process the news. “Holy shit,” Christina remarked. “Wait, is that why McDreamy’s up there in the chief’s office?”
George nods, “I mean, wouldn’t you be if that happened to Meredith?”
“Wait, so is he coming back?” Meredith asks.
Alex shrugs, “I don’t know; the guy ran out; I haven’t seen him since.”
McDreamy passes them just then, a flurry of footsteps, his face drawn into anger as Dr. Shepherd follows after him. The two’s voices can be heard even when they turn the corner and get further away; when the interns track back upstairs, they note the chief now arguing with his wife. Estelle’s hands are slammed onto the desk, and one goes up to point at the chief as she yells something; a small crowd has gathered a ways away to see the drama unfold as well, with Dr. Bailey standing off to the side, shaking her head, yet also listening.
When Estelle moves to leave the office, everyone disperses, and both sides of the walkway are filled as people try to act casual; glancing away when she passes; the chief exits his office just as the elevator closes. “What the hell are you standing around for? Get back to work! All of you!”
The air is tense when they make it to Dr. Bailey; she stands to the side of both Shepherds as they throw passive-aggressive insults at each other. McDreamy’s insults are far more aggressive, his demeanor less tolerant of his sort-of-ex-wife; Dr. Shepherd, on the other hand, looks apologetic, vying for any other emotion from her sort-of-ex-husband that isn’t anger. And Dr. Sloan is nowhere to be seen, at least in the nearby vicinity; Alex voices this out loud - Dr. Bailey shakes her head, Dr. Shepherd looks away, and McDreamy just snaps his clipboard in half before walking away.
Dr. Shepherd rolls her shoulders; she looks on the verge of tears, but she doesn’t say anything before leaving. Dr. Bailey sighs; turning to the group, she motions for them to follow. They skirt around other staff as Alex and George share what additional information they still have.
“No fucking way!” Izzie gasps, quieting down when she receives disapproving looks from others around them “on the anniversary of their engagement?!?”
“I’m surprised he didn’t beat the shit out of him,” Alex adds in, “I mean, that’s a pretty shit thing to do.”
Their whispers and heckling catch Dr. Bailey’s attention as she stops mid-step and turns back to them, pursing her lips, “I know you like to gossip and spread rumors in your spare time,” she begins, “but today is not the day.”
Alex shrugs; he opens his mouth to say something, but Dr. Bailey beats him to it, “Don’t you dare argue with me Karev, read the damn room and shut up!”
The interns’ mouths close, all of them exchanging looks as they continue to follow. The tense atmosphere doesn’t dissipate entirely by lunch; among the other staff, the incident is relatively forgotten, marked away as another chapter of Seattle Grace drama. For the Shepherds, and those closely involved however, it is far from forgotten. Alex joins them for lunch, looking haggard; his head slams into the table, and a groan leaves his lips as he relays the shit that being under Dr. Sloan’s thumb was today.
“How long do you think it’s gonna be like this?” Izzie wonders.
“Forever,” Christina responds, “chief brought in both Shepherds, who’s to say he won’t bring in the almost-Sloan too.”
“If he does, I hope Dr. Sloan gets punched again,” George adds.
“I hope he drops dead so I don't have to go through another day like today,” Alex chimes in.

You’d watched your phone ring to its heart’s content for three whole bottles before finishing it off; you laughed when it flew from your hand to the wall again, with bits of the screen chipping off entirely. After the ninth, tenth, maybe the thirteenth bottle, you’d started taking the pieces out individually, laying them to the side in your version of he loves me, he loves me not. The last piece of your phone screen turned into he loves me, which caused you to burst into laughter, then tears, then anger. You moved from the remains of your phone as someone knocked on the door; you scoffed when you saw Estelle on the other side.
“Oh honey,” she said.
“Don’t, oh honey me,” you sneered, “I don’t need your pity.”
You shuffled back into the room, sitting beside the bed, and took a swig of the alcohol. Estelle entered the room, eyes glancing around with worry as she noted the broken phone, discarded bottles of booze, and haphazard mess everywhere else in the room.
“Jesus,” she muttered.
“Doubt he can do shit right now,” you responded.
Estelle sat on the bed, not too far away from you but close enough to hold a conversation, “Honey, you gotta know this isn’t healthy; I mean, since when do you drink?”
You shrugged your shoulders; Estelle must not have found that a satisfactory answer as she grabbed the bottle; you glared at her when she refused to give it back. “Gods, I’m not an alcoholic, Estelle!”
“You might as well be; I mean, look at this place,” she gestured around the room, “you’re practically falling apart, and for what? Mark?”
You shake your head slowly, a slow laugh coming from you, “Don’t go there, don’t you dare sit there and judge me for dealing with my feelings this way.”
“It’s not healthy, honey; last time we spoke, you were doing so much better,” she says, “this isn’t healthy.”
You laugh, “Look, Estelle, I’m not in the mood for one of your lectures, just leave me alone; I’ll be out of your life and back home come tomorrow.”
“You can’t really think I’d feel comfortable leaving you alone in this state.” You don’t respond; taking a swig, you shrug. “Honey, you’re spiraling.”
“So? Who cares?”
“I care, your sister cares, Derek cares, Richard—”
“If Richard cared, he wouldn’t have made me work with Mark,” you interjected, “and if Addison cared, she wouldn’t have…she….” you divulge into blabbering as the feeling of hurt resurfaces again. The tears start up, and no amount of harsh rubbing will get rid of them. You hold your head in your hands, then throw the bottle against the wall; it shatters into pieces as you start laughing. Estelle stands off, watching you with bewilderment; you hold your head in your hands again, body hunched over as the tears mix with the laughter, and you’re on the cusp of another mental breakdown. You’d done so well to get fewer of those, but one day around Mark seemed to undo all that progress.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid….” you chant over and over again, hitting the side of your head quicker and quicker with every word.
Estelle forgoes all decorum and grabs your arms, drawing them away, to stop you from hitting yourself, but all it does is make you wrangle in her grasp as you attempt to harm yourself more. When you can’t do that, you thrash until she releases you, and you’re falling onto your knees, face by the floor as you sob. Estelle squats down to your level; she comforts you as much as she can until you’ve calmed down enough to speak; when the tears stop, you’re left with red, puffy eyes and tear tracks all over your face.
“I thought you said you were getting better,” Estelle comments.
You sniffle, “So did I….” wiping away at your eyes again, you laugh a little at yourself, “sorry.”
“It’s alright, hon,” she comforts you.
When the sniffles die down as well, Estelle has you move from the floor to the bed; you sit beside her, eyes focused on your hands. “How did you handle Richard being with Ellis?” you asked.
Estelle sighed, “To tell you the truth, I don’t know,” she replied, “I just remember being so angry, but when the anger disappeared, I was empty. Empty because I knew it wouldn’t last long, Ellis Grey was not the most emotionally attuned with herself, and I was right.” She huffed, “but when Richard came crawling back, I almost didn’t care; there were moments I came close to just packing my bags.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“I don’t know,” Estelle truthfully answers, “sometimes I think I was an idiot to stay, other times…” she pauses, glancing at her ring, “other times I see the regret in his eyes, the way he wants to admit it, and I’m ashamed to say, it makes me want to stick by him. But over the years, it’s been tiring; I just don’t think I’d have it in me if he chose anything else over me again.”
“If it makes you feel better, I went out with Mark despite his reputation,” you quipped, “so in a way, we’re both idiots.” Estelle laughs at the joke, and soon enough, you’re joining her as well, both of you chuckle, and at the moment, you feel a bit better. With the adrenaline waning, your eyes droop, and you yawn as today's exhaustion finally catches up to you. You lie back on the bed and curl into yourself; Estelle’s wishes of goodnight sound so far away when you black out.
When you to again, you curse the happy little bird by your window as the raging pain in your head causes you to wince. The sunlight shines through undisturbed, and you glance guiltily around your hotel room, a glass of water and painkillers sit on the drawers beside the bed, and after downing them, you go about slowly cleaning up the room. You turn over the remnants of your phone and curse yourself for getting drunk; once the room is as clean as can be, you trudge out of the room with your belongings. You apologize profusely to the hotel manager and pay what’s necessary. You pray Estelle doesn’t find you before you catch a taxi because judging by the mess that was yesterday, she’ll no doubt be ready to beg you to stay.
Unfortunately for you, she not only finds you as you make it to the lobby but has Derek right on her trail as well. Derek looks as ill-equipped for the morning as you feel, he’s stuffed into a trenchcoat, and his hair still looks morning tussled, barely presentable as if he just brushed it to the side. “Good, I caught you just in time.”
“Can’t stick around, Estelle; I’ve got to go,” you sidestep her, but she blocks your path. “Stay,” she begs.
You turn to Derek with a pleading look, “Estelle, let him go.”
“I brought you here to help me convince him,” she hisses at him, “you moved here for a fresh start; I want that for him too.”
“When I moved here, it was to get away from Addison; she followed me,” Derek clarified.
“So why didn’t you leave then?” Estelle countered.
Derek doesn’t respond, so Estelle turns back to you, “Look, honey, I know it’s tough but please, stay.”
“Why? So I can torture myself? I know you have the best intentions, Estelle, but there’s not much going for me in this city.”
“You’ve got me and Derek and Richard, and my heart would break if anything happened to you back home, so why don’t you stay?” Estelle plays a dirty game, and by the time you’re walking out of the hotel, you’re calling up Richard and offering your services as a consultant for otolaryngological-related cases, and if Seattle Grace has the space, you’d be more than happy to be one of its orthopedic surgeons. Richard’s tone beams happily, and he offers a starting date a week later to give you the time to settle into the city.
Finding an apartment in a week is easier said than done, much more so when searching for a pet-friendly one. You just about manage to find one near the end of the week; in that time, Derek helps you settle in, and by the time Sunday night rolls around, you’re nearly passed out on your new couch as Derek gets the dogs’ beds inside. “I’m sorry for taking your weekend away.”
“Don’t worry, it’s alright,” he assures you, flopping in front of the couch, “I’m always happy to help a friend.” The dogs pile up on either side of him - on his left, your german shepherd, Atlas, rolls over his lap, exposing his belly for scratches, while on Derek’s right, your golden retriever, Gumdrop, lies across his legs - essentially trapping him.
“They’ve missed you,” you comment.
Derek laughs, “I missed them too.” He takes Gumdrop’s face, tilting her head left and right while he coos at her. Gumdrop’s tongue flops out, and she barks eagerly at the attention. Atlas moves from Derek to join you on the couch, “You ready for tomorrow?”
“No,” you reply, “but I can’t really back out now, can I?”
“You know I’d be more than happy to sucker punch Mark for you,” Derek offers.
“I’ll keep that in mind, thanks,” you grin.
Tumblr media
Mark gets called into Richard’s office early on Monday morning, and he is not a happy camper. He’d barely managed to sleep properly throughout the week and was very much not in the mood. The bags under his eyes go well with his steaming cup of coffee, disheveled hair, and sour mood. He nearly drops said coffee when he recognizes you from the back; you turn and greet him with disdain.
“Since the two of you share a history and will be working alongside each other, I’m hoping you’ll play nice,” Richard states.
“For the sake of the patients, I’m willing to tolerate Dr. Sloan,” you speak first.
“I prefer Mark to Dr. Sloan,” Mark attempts, but you fold your arms.
“I don’t,” you firmly declare, taking a deep breath, so you don’t lash out this early in the morning, “there’s a consultation request later today; see you then, Dr. Sloan.”
When you leave the room, Mark turns back to Richard, demanding an explanation for your presence; Richard shrugs, “Well, I wasn’t going to deny having an ENT and orthopedic surgeon join the team; having someone as talented here is good for Seattle Grace.”
Mark leaves the office with a firm grip on his coffee; when he passes the interns, Karev practically dives behind the lobby desk when he passes by, Mark doesn’t let him have that and calls him out. He slithers out from his hiding spot and follows after Mark to the sound of his fellow interns’ laughter. Karev treads lightly around him, taking as many steps back as he can and keeping the sarcasm to a minimum, though Mark doesn’t give him the same reprieve. Having the man run out to every corner of the city he can think of to get some form of petty satisfaction.
Addison is near absent, mostly confining herself to the pediatric unit and any time outside that is unknown; Mark, on the other hand, has been on the hunt for you, but to no avail, as you evade him at every chance. The gossip mill is buzzing by lunch; Grey’s little group buzzes the most as they gawk at Mark at every turn. When Mark does finally see you for the consultation, you’re stood as far from him as possible, with O’Malley nervously looking at him when he enters.
“Georgia, this is Dr. Sloan, his work closely aligns with mine, and he will be here to help us with the consultation,” you said. Just like in Richard’s office, you referred to Mark in a professional manner, though when it came to O’Malley, you were far less cold.
“So I’m not dying?”
“No, Georgia, you’re not,” O’Malley reassured her, “You just had a scare, but you’re perfectly fine, right, doctors?”
“Uh…yeah,” Mark responded, zoning back into the conversation. Georgia thanked all three of you and rushed out of the room with a skip of joy in her step; once she was gone, the easy, happy expression you had for her vanished, and you appeared just to shut down.
“Well, that’s good,” O’Malley mumbled, “her family’s gonna be happy she’s fine, especially her son; you should have seen him,” O’Malley rambled, “he’s so tiny and cute, he’s only six, but he’s like the rudest person I’ve ever met.”
Whereas O’Malley rambles slightly grated on Mark’s nerves right now, they struck something with you as you cracked your cold exterior and you smiled. “You should meet my sister; she’s ten times ruder than anyone you can think of,” you jest, “One time, she—” you cut yourself off when you found yourself turning to point at Mark, the words died down, and you closed off again. “It doesn’t matter; thank you for your help Dr. Sloan, and you as well, Dr….”
“O’Malley, George O’Malley, though I’m not really a doctor yet, still an intern, sir,” O’Malley corrected. “But you’re welcome.”
“Thank you, O’Malley, can I call you O’Malley?”
“Uh, George is fine, sir–I mean Dr—I mean—”
“Doc is fine,” you tell him.

Show me your fears & I'll show you mine
Kate Bishop x Female Reader
Request - Grey's Anatomy Modern No superpower. Reader is Meredith and Derek's child and is dating Kate. Visiting Seattle, Reader plans to introduce Kate to her parents but has an accident that sends Reader injured in hospital. When they arrive at the hospital her parents are worried, Kate is protective of the reader. Meredith and Derek don't know Reader is dating Kate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Kate arrived in Seattle, Washington, and there are bad thunderstorms. But you rented a car, you start to drive away from the parking lot.
“Do they know that we are in Seattle?” Kate asked.
“No. I actually wanted to surprise them since it's my mom’s birthday. I got her a charm bracelet with a plush bear” You said.
“Aww, that's so cute. I know she will love it” Kate said.
“You will be the first girlfriend I ever introduced to them. I dated before but it wasn't serious of them meeting my parents” You said.
“This is my first serious relationship so I know how you feel. When my mom found out that I'm dating you, she did a background check on you and your parents” Kate said.
“I’m not surprised actually. So... I'm guessing she showed you what she found out about my parents?” You said.
“She did tell me but I didn't want to see the file. I wanted to find out for myself” Kate said.
“I don't think your mom likes me,” You said.
“Just give her time and she might come around,” Kate said.
You had the green light and you start to drive. You and Kate keep talking, suddenly out of nowhere another hit your side of the car. The car hit a pole and you blacked out and Kate passed out.
People start to call the cops also an ambulance. They put Kate on the stretcher and she tries to get up but can't.
“Miss you need to stay still,” She said.
“Where is Y/n. S-she was driving... Where is Y/n!?” Kate yelled.
Kate is sore and she is in terrible pain. She has cuts on her face, arms, and chest and she starts to cry.
---
Once at the hospital, Kate managed to get off the medical bed. She struggles to walk but the nurses won't let her leave the room.
“I need to find y/n. Please let me see y/n, she was in the car with me” Kate said.
“Stay here and rest and I will go find out what to your friend,” She said.
Kate stayed on the medical bed and the nurse left. Kate didn't want to wait, she sneaked out of the room. She starts to check each room and so far nothing. Ten minutes later, she found your room.
“Y/n,” Kate said softly.
She starts to cry and you're in a coma. She walks towards you and she grabbed your hand and she can't stop crying. She kissed your forehead
“Y/n, please don't leave me. I love you so much, y/n. I can't lose you and I don't want to imagine my life without you” Kate cried.
She sits by your side and doesn't let go of your hand.
Dr. Mark Sloan walked into the room.
“Who are you?” Dr. Mark Sloan asked.
“My my name is Kate Bishop. I was in the car with Y/n” Kate said.
“You should be resting. What is your relationship with Y/n” Dr. Mark Sloan said.
“I-I’m her wife” Kate lied.
To stay in the room with you, Kate lied.
“Mhmm. I will be right back” Dr. Mark Sloan said.
Mark went to look for your parents Meredith and Derek. He told them what happened with you, they rushed to your room and they meet Kate.
“My name is Meredith and y/n is my child,” Meredith said.
“Oh. Sorry, I lied about being her wife I-I just didn't want them to kick me out” Kate said.
“We understand why you lied. My name is Derek and I'm her father. You should be resting” Derek said.
“I don't want to leave her side. Please” Kate pleads.
“You can stay but you need to rest. We will see if we can get a bigger room for you and y/n” Meredith said.
“Are you friends with y/n?” Derek asked
“Thank you. No, I'm her girlfriend” Kate said.
“Why y/n, didn't tell us that she was coming home,” Meredith said.
“She wanted to surprise you and your husband. Y/n was driving and we got hit by another car” Kate said.
“We will do everything to make sure you and y/n will get better,” Derek said.
“Thank you,” Kate said.
Derek had to comfort Meredith, she couldn't stop crying. You had to get surgery, Meredith sat down with Kate to get to know her.
---
Kate is holding your hand and her back is facing the door. She doesn't know that Meredith is hearing her speak about the first time you met Kate.
“Y/n I still remember how we met and what you were wearing. We were online friends and we stay up late and just play online games. We first met at a pizza shop and you spilled a drink on me and you let me keep your hoodie. Oh, you're not ever getting that back” Kate said.
She starts to cry and she wiped her tears away.
✬ ✯ ✫ ✯
Days Later...
You opened your eyes and you're feeling sore. You look around and Kate is sleeping by your side.
“Kate, wake up,” You said.
Seconds later, she woke up and she smiled at you. She put her hands on your cheek and she kissed you on the lips. Her Forehead rest on yours
“I love you so damn much” Kate smiled.
“I love you too. What happened? Everything is a blur” You said.
“We got hit by a drunk driver. You were in a coma for days. You had to get surgery and you needed help to breathe, which explains the tube in your nose. I lied at first saying I was your wife because I didn't want them to kick me out and I met your parents. I have to let them know you're awake now” Kate said.
“Wow, that is a lot to process right now. So... You're my wife” You said.
“Pretend wife” Kate smiled.
Kate kissed you then she called your parents. They are happy to see you and they hugged you.
---
Kate had to get X-rays and she will be gone for a while. But your father checks your pressure
“Kate is an interesting girl,” Derek said.
“She is. I wanted to surprise you and mom that's why I didn't say I was coming” You said.
“I understand. She is very protective of you. She asked many questions when you went into surgery, checking your pressure and asking which heart rate is normal. She does care about you a lot, which is a huge plus for me” Derek said.
“So you and mom like her?” You asked.
“We do like her. Are you truly happy with her?” Derek said.
“Yes, I'm truly happy with her-”
“Y/n!” Meredith smiled.
“Mom!” You smiled back.
She hugged you tight and kissed your forehead. She starts to cry and she is happy that you're awake, she hugs you again.
“I’m so happy to see you,” Meredith said.
“Me too, mom,” You said.
“I spoke to your father and we both agreed that you and Kate should stay with us for a while,” Meredith said.
“Really?” You said.
She nods “yes. It will take you a while to be back at hundred percent. You will need physical therapy and Kate needs time for her ribs to heal”
“We haven't told Kate about it. We do have a spare room. We can tell Kate about it” Derek said.
“Sounds great. We should tell her later” You said.
Later, Derek and Meredith told Kate about the plan of living with them for a while. Kate did agree to it and you're happy about it.
✬ ✯ ✫ ✯
Living with your parents has been going great. They would take you to physical therapy and appointments. You and Kate do go out with your parents for dinner and spend the day together. Your father is showing Kate baby pictures of you to your girlfriend while you help your mom with dinner.
“Dad, why do you have to show her my baby pictures?” You said.
“Y/n, it's cute. You were so cute in your Halloween costume” Kate Smiled.
“Oh yeah, I remember that day. We took y/n to the store and she wanted to be a power ranger and she got so excited. She even wore the costume to bed” Derek smiled.
“And that one time for her birthday, she wanted to wear a cowboy costume for some reason,” Meredith said.
“Can we eat now?” You asked.
“We can eat now,” Meredith said.
“But I want to know more stories as a kid” Kate smiled.
She gave you a peck on the lips.
“Oh, we got more stories,” Derek said.
“Oh my god” sighed.
Your parents just smiled and they did tell Kate stories of your childhood.
