Everyone has a different 'scariest' episode of TMA, but none have filled me with horror as much as MAG 118 had.
It's not the threat of Elias or the choir of skin puppets that turned my stomach.
It's Martin Blackwood.
Martin and his wanton destruction of historical documents. Albrecht's letter in particular.
Below is just a vent about that letters possible research significance and why it's destruction is devastating from like a small scale. Information Science people could probably say it a lot better, but it is 2 am and still thinking about that.
Working off the assumption that the letter is the Schwartzwald statement Mag 23, well-
It's devastating. Albrecht's letter actually operates as an excellent primary source within the world of Magnus as a study on cursed books. Leitner's library was a known and infamous variable within the supernatural community, and Albrecht's library was essentially a precursor to it.
I'd also like to point out that MAG 53 also offered up another source of cursed libraries and the foul fates of their caretakers
And MAG 127 is a follow up to MAG 23, further reaffirming the assumptions made in 53 regarding the fates of failed archivists.
Even if that's a completely unrelated letter, it was stored in the archive because it was considered relevant for future researchers, archives don't just hoard every gossipy letter, those would go into a separate collection based in the library if anything.
And all of these related statements are all in English, which is kind of insane? So maybe I'm bitter that I've had to change multiple thesis' due to a lack of relevant primary sources, but Albrecht is such a pivotal lore character in universe.
My uni makes history students attend a seminar on how to handle materials from archives and rare book libraries, and the librarian promised great violence on those who would use a stapler or pen anywhere near those texts.
So really, Martin got off incredibly easy for purposefully destroying an invaluable record. Irregardless of sentiment, I think Jonah under reacted. In that situation I think Jonah Magnus would have been more justified in brutal pipe murdering a man then he had with Jurgen Leitner.
There is nothing inherently evil about knowledge, about books and records. The ethics lie within the acquisition of said knowledge, it's usage, and what it's destruction represents.

I've really grown to dislike how most of the people approach s5 Jon (and Martin) time travels back to season one AUs. Because it can be sum up as "no one likes season one Jon, he's so stuck up and grumpy and repressed opposed to future Jon who is much more chill and more fun".
Because I don't think Sasha or Tim disliked s1 Jon? All their conversations seemed always quite friendly and relaxed? They throw him a birthday party. And Jon liked them and thought highly of them as well he asked for them to be transfered to Archives. He understandably disliked only Martin for lack of skills he should have had but did not.
All the negative feeling Sasha and Tim had against him came literally from them thinking Sasha should have been given the position of Head Archivist but that's it. They were even not so much annoyed with Jon but with Elias here honestly.
I would like to see some take when they are all weirded out by s5 Jon. I want season one archival crew bond over how they think s5 Jon is secretive and says ominous stuff all the time (And if s5 Martin is present as well I want them to be annoyed with his bitchy attitude.) Because s5 Jon and Martin could not anymore see the world through lenses on normal human and they would be all "We know what is best for you" while s1 crew would be more "No you don't. Not if you refuse to give us proper explanation. Stop acting like you know better, stop acting as we cannot take care of ourselves."

I'm not saying Jmart have parental issues, but Martin was treated bad by his mom and fell for a guy who treated him bad at first and Jon had an emotionally distant grandmother and fell for a guy who pushed him away for a whole season..

An Ode to Somewhere Else
With the official release of the Magnus Protocol coming up so quickly, I find that I'm upset with how it'll change the Magnus Archives, specifically the ending.
It was a phenomenal ending. Poignant and emotional, it felt like the perfect bookend to the story. I started balling my eyes out the moment the last tape finished. It allowed for a bit of closure with the more secondary main characters, but left the two we'd been following since the beginning up in the air.
Sure, happy endings are wonderful. It's always nice to hear every question answered. But ambiguous endings are so deep and meaningful, far closer to what you'd find in real life. Not everything is happy or set out in black and white. We can never predict what the future holds. Sometimes you get lost. That's life.
And I think that's what Jon and Martin needed. Was to get lost. No matter which way you look at it, they both had a hand in ending the world. They saw so much fear and suffering and couldn't do anything about it (not that they didn't want to). They - and by extension, the audience - knew so much. That's what makes the original ending so beautiful. They finally don't know something. We finally can't see something.
And that lack of clarity gave way to some of the most beautiful things I've ever read. The amount of TMA AUs that begin with Somewhere Else is insane and I love it. It's great that we can finally imagine them getting a happy ending. Or we can imagine them becoming even more tragic. Or both. Or neither. It's an open ending; that's what they're for. Ambiguity invites imagination.
It's not that I'm not excited for the Magnus Protocol; I'm hyped. I just wish that I listened to the Magnus Archives back before the sequel was announced, where the last click of the button was the sound of an ending spilling into somewhere else.

Trucker Ted: "...and then my truck starts sliding on the spilt molasses, next thing you know I look down the street and I see HIS elephant truck coming right at me, and we collided. What are the odds of two trucks carrying circus elephants crashing into each other?"
Policeman: "Yeah, what are the odds? I smell a Murphy...."
Policeman: *points at Martin hiding behind a newspaper* "MURPHY!"
Martin, sobbing: "I just wanted a latte, I'm sorry!"
